Carry On Anniversary
Monday: What "Carry On" Means to Me
I wasn't going to write anything up for today, because there are so many more eloquent people giving beautiful commentary about when they first watched the episode. But then I got feelings so here I am!
I was looking through my posts from last November to see if I posted anything, but most of my commentary was in tags on reblogs. I didn't post a lot of original content a year ago!
For me, I needed a little time to really process the finale. I was watching with my son, and we had to watch it on the app the day after, so I had tried to avoid spoilers until he could sit down with me. By the time that happened, I was so eager that the whole episode felt like a whirlwind. I devoured it and my emotions were secondary.
I remember knowing immediately someone was going to die when they showed the rebar, but even though it was the finale, I didn't actually expect a real death! When it happened, so casually, and then Dean called Sam over, my heart and breath caught, but I didn't cry.
My reaction was literally: "What? WHAT?? No, but. FOR REAL??" I watched Dean's confession raptly; my ears got hot when he said things pulled right outta fanfic, and think I clasped my hands tightly against my chest at the forehead touch. I don't think I blinked. But it didn't really sink in until it showed the montage of Sam's life, and ngl I didn't cry then either because I just felt Sam's emptiness, and then that damn wig broke the tension and made me laugh.
The episode ended, and I was in my writer frame of mind, analyzing what I liked and what I wished had been different. (If you've been here awhile you know I'm really not a fan of putting kids' names on their clothes lol, but my initial opinion on who that last monster was has done a complete 180. It was good, actually!) Talked to my son about what he liked and didn't--he didn't dislike anything!
It was later that night and the next day that it really started to sink in, and my compartmentalization broke open. Brain breakage happened. Brain worms. ILYSMMBB! QPR SAMDEAN BASICALLY CANON. DOMESTIC MONTAGE! 'ALMOST PERFECT'!!
And I couldn't rewatch the full episode, but I reblogged the fuck out of barn scene edits. I've probably rewatched the barn scene more than the bridge scene, and I've watched that A LOT. And the coda fic. Oml. I've read the fuck out of some coda fic. I read road_rhythm's Where the Bodies Are Buried in December and was still crying my way through it in March when I recorded it. (My 3rd - 8th read-throughs at that point!)
I really didn't think it could get better, especially with the fandom drama, but I didn't really know then what a fucking gift J2 are. Bibro kings, truly. Being able to 'go to' a J2 panel thanks to the virtual con felt like such a personal experience. Finding out all the bits they'd changed and added. Hearing their headcanons for Sam and Dean and heaven. Not having their soulmatism undercut by 'and then they split off to separate forever-afters'.
Utterly amazing.
And what really made me type this all out just now is a random thought I had while watching the fanvid I just reblogged:
Supernatural gave us the complete ending I'd hoped for Merlin. They got the dying confession, but they also got the reunion after being split apart by death! SUPERNATURAL ACTUALLY RESOLVED A PERMANENT DEATH IN A WAY THAT FELT LIKE A BALM TO MY HEART. THEY MADE A PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP THE DEEPEST AND MOST MEANINGFUL KIND OF LOVE IN THIS SHOW.
THEY GAVE A SHOW THAT HAD BEEN FULL OF DESPERATE DECISIONS, WITH TERRIBLE CONSEQUENCES, A HAPPILY EVER AFTER!🤯🤯🤯🥰🥰🥰
It honestly made me, an aspec person, so happy to see other fans leaning into the qpr of it all. How is this even real? A year later, I'm still reeling. And I honestly hope I never stop.

Ojiro x Black reader
Tumblr media
Sub/Dom dynamics.
Spanking and I don't mean like "haha you have big ass me likey oogaabooga" I'm talking "count for me"
But it's still really sweet ya'know? Ojiro best boi
I've tried so many times but "dick" never looks good on paper. But i want to find another word cause cock is giving me very much 🏈 fratboy🏈
"Oji~ you know that I love you?" A digitally inhanced sigh fills the room, "Yes"
It was a Saturday and you were currently waiting for your boyfriend to come home for your birthday. So what do you do to pass the time? Call him every hour of the day of course.
"Y/N, can I please just do my job, I promise I will only focus on you when I get back." You pouted as you twirled your freshly finished twist outs, "I mean I could do that."
You could hear Ojiro hold his breath on the other side of the line, making your smirk widen, "But I won't cause I love you so much baby!"
You knew you were wrong for doing this, you just found so much joy at his expense. From elsewhere in the house, the doorbell rang drawing your attention. "Fine, Mashiro I'm going to call you back later okay baby?" A wheeze came through the phone, "Yes babe, I love you bye!"
You giggle at the thought of his relieved face as you tiptoe to the front door. "Is this for me?!" You sing out to no one in particular as you pick up an unmarked bag of plastic. Bringing it inside your mouth, you tear it open with your teeth, and begin to feel giddy once you see what's inside.
A while ago, you had ordered some yellow lingerie to match Oijiro's hair, and after helplessly scouring the internet, you finally found one in a good shade, nice design, and reasonable price.
(Nah y'all know how hard it was to find a black girl in yellow lingeire? I don't understand it's not like i looked up a specific skin tone, I kept getting white people 😭 i barely found this one and what pissed me off was that i had given up and searched "black girl in white lingeire" to match Oijiro's hero costume and finally i got a cute yellow one like wtf?!)
Edit: THE DAMN LINGERIE NEVER LOADED HERE
You go to your room and try it on and after struggling with adjusting the thigh straps to your massive thighs, you were able to stand in front of your full length mirror to take pictures. "Oo look at me!" You dance a little in front of the mirror, shaking your hips.
You stop for a moment as a devious smile comes into your face. You grab your phone and set it up to take pictures. After a mini photo shoot that distracted you for about 30 minutes, you decided to send 2 of them to your ever so loving boyfriend.
You wait a few moments and gasp as you see the word seen pop up. You do a leap around the house giggling with anxiety from his reaction.
When you got back to your bed you huff at his lack of reply. "He couldn't even give me the tease of a text bubble?!"
That ruined your mood as you grabbed your house coat and stomped around the house cleaning up and watching TV. You don't call him after that, "He doesn't deserve my presence."
In reality, you were in your feelings for honestly nothing. You knew he was working but it still would have been nice to get a reaction.
*Thump*
You jump and damn near take the entire kitchen with your a you look around the seemingly empty house, "What the hell?!"
*Thump*
The sound was coming from your balcony. You peek around the doorway and your eyes go wide. "Oijiro what are your doing here?" You move to open the glass doors but stop as you make eye contact with your man.
His beautiful face was adorned with features of a rabid animal. He pressed his phone against the glass door and you gulped as you saw your picture, full screen. "Yeah, I think I'm going to let you simmer out there for a while.
*Thump*
That was the sound of Oijiro's heavy tail hitting the ground. You knew that movement, it was similar to a bunny temper tantrum but deadlier. "Open the door y/n."
A shiver runs throughout your body at the sound of his voice. It was deep and unwavering as he blankly stared at you through the panels. Feeling down right terrified, you turn around on your heel and go on your merry way. 'y'all hear something cause I sure don't'
Click
You stop in your tracks as you hear  movement behind you.
 'he got in didn't he'
'why did I give him the key?'
You try to inconspicuously shuffle away before a hand finds its way around your neck and the soft pad of a thumb on your tongue. "That wasn't very nice of you, to leave me out there." You giggle uncomfortably as Ojiro places gentle kisses along the expanse of your neck.
"I just thought, you needed some fresh air." The hand tightens and you can't help but grab onto his wrist in that moment. "I don't like it when you're a smart alec Y/N." In the distance, you heard the sound of his tail thumping again, shaking nearby decorations and furniture.
Grabbing your hands, Oijiro walls you to your shared bedroom and locks the door. You sit on the bed and twiddle your fingers as Ojiro stood in front of you glaring. "Does this mean you didn't like my photo or?"
Oijiro's steely eyes meet yours and you flinch, "Oh I loved it. I loved it so much that I popped a glorious erection during a meeting in front of all my peers." Oijiro's trail thumps against the floor, making you jump. "Do you know how hard it is to hide a boner when your hero costume is a robe, princess?"
Princess, that word meant business, and business meant no sitting down properly for a week. 'this birthday gonna be lit.' is all you thought as you lazily cross your legs. "I don't know, I'd assume it would be easier than spandex?"
Ojiro smirks as he drags your body to the head of the bed, holding down your hands securely. Getting on the bed Oijiro grips your chin in his hand before kissing your mouth gently. "Happy Birthday."
He sits back and recklessly opens your robe and down right moans at the sight of you. "When did you buy this?" You look away, embarrassed, "It was for your birthday but it didn't come in time." Oijiro nodded as he pulled on a thigh strap before releasing it with a loud snap.
"You look beautiful in it." For a while, Oijiro spends his time caressing you. Starting from your breasts which he sucked on generously, and your stomach that he peppered with kisses. All while avoiding your erogenous zones and making you needier.
"Ojiro!" You moaned as he scraped his teeth below your naval. Ojiro watched you with trained eyes as his hands follow your plush thighs, squeezing them every so often.
"Sending that picture wasn't very nice of you." Ojiro mumbled as he grazed over the one place you needed him to touch. "Please, touch me."
Oijiro props himself up pulling you with him. His hands follow your waist and stop at your butt, squeezing at the mounds as he continues to kiss your skin. "I don't think you've learned your lesson Y/n." You nodded quickly and whined, "I did learn my lesson, promise!" You try to entice him by grinding against him, but you quickly realize that was the wrong thing to do as his face grows serious.
"This is a fine example of what I mean, you're impatient." Not liking that answer, you pout and cross your arms, "This is stupid it's my birthday." Oijiro flicks your nose, "Watch your attitude. You incoherently mumble again clearly defiant. "Lay over my lap."
Minutes before you could protest, he's already tugging you, face down, over his lap and delivering a smack. "Ow!" "I want you to count for me, lose place and we start over. Don't count and I'll make this longer. Do you remember your safe word?" You nod your head slowly and jump as your ass blazes with heat from another smack "1. Thank you sir."
You hate to admit it but it had been a while since you pushed Ojiro this far punishment wise so it wasn't surprising that you were shaking by 5, crying by 7, Ojiro was hard by 9, and you were extremely wet by 12. "You're taking your punishment so we'll." You gripped the sheets tightly into your hands and crossed your legs as you revived another slap, "T-Twenty, thank you s-sir."
You expected to revive more but was pleasantly surprised when you were coaxed off of Oijiro's lap and pulled in between his legs. His face was flushed and he was breathing heavily for someone that hasn't been spanked. "Are you okay dear?" You sniff as Ojiro takes your hands and places kisses on your knuckles.
You run your legs together and look down at him with pleading eyes. "What's wrong baby? Haven't I taken care of you enough today?" Ojiro mocked, but you personally couldn't find anything funny. You drop to your knees and rub his legs before shortly trailing your fingers over his crotch.
Ojiro does nothing but watch, as you gently tug on the fabric of his hero costume. "Oji it's my birthday." Ojiro shrugged, "You're right it is your birthday. Don't you think you're old enough to make your own decisions?" You smirk at that and quickly pull his cock out of hiding.
You internally drooled at the sight of him. Oijiro's size was conservitively average with only girth going for him, but something about that turned you on more than if he was larger. He watches you, mouth parted as you give kitten licks to the tip of his cock, tasting the pre-cum that had accumulated.
Gingerly, he places his hand on the back of your head, urging you to continue. You smirk up at him and bat your eyelashes slowly as you trail your tongue from the base to the tip, where you bow your head, to swallow him whole.
"Shit." Ojiro pushes you all the way down and tosses his head back as he feels you constrict around him. You raise a hand to fondle his sensitive..balls😑. Causing him to jerk his hips making the tip hit the back of your throat.
As you busy yourself, you couldn't help but grind on his thick tail that rested below you. "S-Shit Y/N you're going to get your juices all over me!" You hum in response as you continue to buck your hips against the large mass of muscle.
Ojiro pulls your hair to stop you from sucking as he kisses your lips with a sigh. "You have to stop now or I won't last any longer." You chuckle as you stand to your full height and watch as Ojiro kisses your belly with closed eyes. "Wow, who knew a little bit of fabric would turn you into a 1 pump chump?!"
Ojiro glares up at you as he smacks your ass, making you whine as it reignites the soreness from before.
Pulling you onto the bed, Ojiro stands up, holding his tail to his face as he licks up your release. "You got me all messy." Pulling off the rest of his clothing, Ojiro climbs behind you, and he gently dips a finger into your warm cavern. "Are you ready?" He asks as he pushes your head down and pulls your waist closer to him.
He watches as your holes noticeably clench at his voice. "Please, Oji."
The thickness was something you never got used to and though patient with foreplay, Ojiro always had a hard time holding back even if he puts only his tip in.  Arousal drips down your entrance slowly and he uses that to aid the rest of him inside. "So pretty for me." Ojiro takes hold of your underwear straps and uses that to push his way in.
Your mouth opens in a silent yell as you feel your insides constrict around him. "Relax baby, I can't move." You breath shakily and Ojiro gently waits for you to relax by rubbing sharp circles into your twitching clit.
You angle your hips back and fuck yourself into his cock once you were ready. He guides you and drinks in all your whimpers as you attempt to go faster. "Does that feel good baby? Is my dick making you shake?" Your reply is a series of breathy 'yes's' as Ojiro picks up speed.
"Fuck you're so warm and soft!" Ojiro grabs your squishy hips as he pivots out of your weeping hole. You graon into the sheets as he leans over you. "You're creaming around me you know?" You bury your face in embarrassment as Ojiro intertwines his fingers with yours.
You feel the pit in your stomach grow tighter as you get closer to your orgasm. "I'm coming, fuck I'm cumming." You were so close but Ojiro stops in his tracks and holds you down.
"Why'd you stop?" You ask turning your head around to look back at your smirking boyfriend. He raises both hands and slams them down on your thighs as he yanks your back, halfway off the bed. Your legs dangle off the side as the rest of you stays and I'm all honesty this was an awkward position due to your long legs.
Oijiro's trail thumps behind you and you can hear it hitting various objects as it swishes around the room. "Why are you so excited?" You ask trying your best to hold on to the thin trails off your orgasm as your heart rate slowed. "I'm just thinking about if you really deserve to cum."
You throw your head up immediately and stomp your fists. "It's my birthday can't you do this some other time?!" Ojiro pushes your face into the bed, knocking the wind out of you as he sets a brutal pace. "See that attitude right there is what I'm talking about." He shakes his head as he pounds your ass repeatedly.
You're quickly bright closer to your orgasm as the lack of oxygen goes to your brain. When he does let you up, you are coming with a loud groan as he pulls out, ruining your orgasm.
"Ojiro what the hell!" You yell, still twitching from the shocks. Ojiro looks at you shrugging as he jerks himself to completion. "You said make you cum."
You groan stomping into the bathroom ignoring Oijiro's laughter from behind.

content creator year in review
tagged by @wabisaba (kind of lol)
first creation and most recent creation of 2020: i am not going to link my first one because it is Gross and i do not want to relive it, but it was a love shot set, i really was just throwing some random adjustment layers on there to see what happened and i had no idea what they did and that’s what i ended up with ahfdkjsdh. my most recent creation is an addition to the nct being whipped for winwin series, because really who isn’t a simp for him come on
one of your favorite creations from 2020: there is absolutely no rhyme or reason for me picking this bc it’s so random but i loved how the colors turned out, and they are bubs and i love them and they make me smile hehe
a creation you’re really proud of: gonna try to avoid ones that i linked in my top 5 post, so this one! it’s not my best work or anything by far, but it was the first time i figured out how to download smaller clips of really long videos and got the coloring to look soft and not too extreme. i’m also going to add this one bc it was the first time i tried making gifs of a live stage!!
a new style you tried this year and a gifset that uses it: i’ve been wanting to try the sparkle trend for a while and i finally had a chance to in my secret santa present! it didn’t turn out exactly how i hoped in the 3rd and 4th gifs, but i think it turned out beautifully on the 1st one with the lights and especially the 2nd one with the snow 🥺
a creation that took you forever: i....cannot physically explain how long this set took me to color. it was a pain i wanted to cry and throw things omg. @exo-stentialism can attest that i kept picking it up and putting it down for like.....4 weeks maybe?? ooooomg i’m glad i finally got it done though
your creation from 2020 that received the most notes: exo in 2020! i’m really happy people liked it, because it’s one of my favorites too!
a creation you think deserved more notes: i know this already has a very good amount of notes relative to my average lmao but i really think it should have done better. leader bbh!!!
a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it: the one and only new fandom i joined was nct because i stay sm trash :’) i think literally every single nct thing i’ve made has been of winwin ksdjhfaj here is one of him and kun bc winformation best show i will not be taking questions at this time
a creation you made that breaks your heart: breaks my heart can be interpreted in a lot of ways, but i guess i will interpret it this way - i made this set of pcy talking about space and the universe during one of the sechan idol league streams and it made me sad that he just stopped and was like ‘moving on’ like noooo i wanted to hear you talk about it more!!! just ramble it’s fine!!! i love his brain ;;
a ‘simple’ creation that you really love: hmm i guess this could be considered simple as far as gfx go because there really are only 3-4 additional textures on each panel besides the pics of sehun himself but idk i really liked it!
a creation that was inspired by another one: errr this one was directly inspired by this tracklist post which i already linked in the description, but other than that i tend to be inspired by more generic things. maybe a font someone used in their graphic, or the way someone turned a bright red into deeper red etc, so i don’t have specific posts i saved for those
a favorite creation created by someone else: many, but this is the most recent one that comes to mine hello @yukbaeks ur so talented and this is literally so adorable that i melted!! and i love that you put the piano cover on it too, it adds so much 🥺
some of your favorite content creators from the year: OK GET READY (in no particular order) @sefuns @do-kyngsoo @yixing-zhang @dokyunqsoo @sehunlyone @delhyun @exo-stentialism @kaibility @ciaozhan @kaiternity @tipannies @j-pping @amaranth @captivatesme @yukbaeks @vivapolos @nctsworld @rveluvs @tten @xiaojun @waiyv @leemarkies @taeminnomuyeppeo @softxingdae @winle @johnnysuhs @mhirais @jungsungchans @dongsichengs @jsuh @johnni @wabisaba @orbitzones (i hope all these tags work lol) thank you all for blessing the world with your gifs/edits/words whatever it may be, i love following you all and i appreciate the time you take to make content for your fellow exo-ls/nctzens 💕
and for good measure, another a couple more creations of yours that you love: my universe tracklist turned out just how i pictured it so i’m really happy with it! and here is a winwin one just bc of reasons.
tagging: anyone i mentioned in this post or anyone else that sees it and would like to do it! it’s been a hard year, so it would be rly nice to spread some more love around!!

with you [chapter 5]
Tumblr media
Summary: Clementine pops the question, Louis has nightmares, Violet can’t let go of the past, Mitch doesn’t know how to handle gross feelings, Ruby’s a goddamn sweetheart, Willy doesn’t ever remember to knock, Aasim can’t dance, and James is here, too.
Nothing like a wedding to bring this family together.
Note: I’m home from my grandmothers. My uncle came back a little early and now I finally get to sleep in my own bed and have internet. It’s been an exhausting two weeks but at least some good came of it. I finished rewriting/editing three chapters of [with you] which is progress. Working on this is what kept my sanity in check tbh haha. I still need some time to unpack and recover before being fully back on here, so I hope you enjoy this chapter!
Also, I’ve updated [with you] on Fanfiction.net and Wattpad, as well. I’ve pretty much given up on them but then I thought that I do have readers on those platforms who have messaged me about [with you] so I might as well update them, too. So yeah. Thanks for reading and for your support for this story. :D

---
Clementine yanks the basement doors open, only to gag when a nauseating scent of vinegar knocks her in the face.
“What the hell?” she coughs.
“C’mon!” Willy grabs her arm and hurries down the stairs, dragging her with him. “Mitch! Clem’s here!”
Something heavy and metallic drops hard to the cement. “Shit!” Mitch curses. “Told you not to do that, Willy!”
“Sorry!”
She follows the young boy deeper into the basement and finds herself amazed at Mitch’s set up. The work desk is completely covered with drills, hammers, saws, files, batteries, a few of their solar panels, and other machines she didn’t recognize. Flashlights are wired in the air pointing directly at the anvil Mitch sits in front of. There’s a chipped bowl filled with a clear liquid sitting on top.
“Finally,” Mitch says when he sees her. Clementine’s startled by his more than usual unkempt appearance- hair standing in every direction, dirtiness staining his hands, shirt and face, and the weariness lining his eyes.
“Uh, are you okay?” she asks him.
“Yeah, yeah,” he waves dismissively, standing from his stool, yawning heavily as he tosses a dirty rag away.
Willy rushes to help him scoot the various tools aside so Mitch can reach something closest to the wall. It’s a small, brown box.
Clementine approaches the two boys, trying to hide her eagerness as she asks, “Well? Were you able to fix it?”
Mitch scratches at the back of his neck and turns away. “Not exactly,” he says, “It sorta got ruined when I messed around with it.”
Her heart drops.
“Ruined how?”
“I may have broke it.”
“Broke it!?”
Mitch whips around, holding up a hand. “Now, don’t cry about it,” he says quickly, “it was a shitty ring, anyway. Louis would’ve broken it himself if you gave it to him… maybe.” He grabs a small wrench from the table and swings it around on his finger nervously.
“Mitch,” she can’t help that her voice came out so miserably angry. “If you couldn’t fix it then you should’ve left it alone! What am I supposed to do now?”
“Woah, hey, don’t freak out! Just listen for two seconds,” he says. “I didn’t mean to break it. We started messing around with some stuff to try and reshape it but then it snapped and James came wandering down here and the whole thing was a shitshow. There was no saving that thing. Kind of a piece of shit. So,” he looks away as he shoves the brown box towards her, “We did you one better.”
Willy’s practically vibrating with excitement next to them as he motions eagerly to the box. “Open it! Open it!”
Clementine takes the box and pulls the lid off. It takes her a moment to process what she’s seeing.
There’s a clean piece of fabric bunched up at the bottom, and within the folds rests two matching silver bands. Her head snaps up and her jaw drops.
His exhausted, shit-eating grin is enough of a confirmation that what she’s seeing is real.
“Oh my god!” she gasps. “Where did you get these?”
“Made ‘em.”
“What? You-” she blinks up at him in disbelief, “-you made these?”
“Super awesome, huh?” Willy laughs. “I told’ja we had it under control!”
“The smell’ll wear off, too,” Mitch says, “had to polish ‘em with vinegar.”
Clementine carefully lifts the bigger of the two rings out of the box. “How- How did you-?”
“Quarters,” Mitch smirks. “Willy here keeps a pretty impressive coin collection. Took a while to find the right ones, but we got it.”
“Yeah, we made a shit ton of them!” Willy reaches into his pocket and pulls out various different rings, most of them scratched up or disfigured in some way.
“It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it,” Mitch shrugs. “Willy found this old book about sailors overseas making rings for their girlfriends back home. Just gotta hammer them then drill out the middle, do some filing and hammer some more. Once me and James knew what we were doing, we used the measurement I took of your finger and made yours. That one turned out great, so we made Louis’ to complete the set… and it only took us an entire day to do and there were, eh… complications , but they’re done.”
Clementine runs her finger over the smooth surface, “This is-” she stops when she notices something engraved on it. She blinks, but it’s still there scratched into the shiny surface.
C + L
“That part was Mitch’s idea,” Willy points at the tiny letters, “had to use a really sharp nail to get it that clear.”
“We’ve all seen the piano,” Mitch quickly explains, rolling his eyes, “figured it’d be a good finishing touch. No big deal.”
She puts the box on the workbench. Without any warning, she throws herself at Mitch, wrapping her arms around his now tense body.
“Woah, hey, um-!” Mitch panics and sticks his arms out to avoid touching her.
“You guys have no idea what this means to me.”
“Uh-!”
He turns to Willy, bewildered. The young boy begins to laugh as he points at Mitch’s panicked face. Clementine reaches out and yanks Willy forward, pulling him into the hug as well. Even then, he’s still giggling like an amused child.
Then, like the realization that they’re all hugging finally hits him over the head, Mitch jerks back, nearly tripping over his feet when turning back towards the work desk. He clears his throat.
“Said it’s not a big fucking deal, and it’s not like we did all the work, y’know. James helped, too, so just-” he grumbles, fumbling with the wrench, “-... consider it an early wedding present, or whatever.”
Clementine can’t help but laugh at how weirdly cute it is that he’s embarrassed. She picks up the rings again to pull out the smaller one. It fits perfectly on her finger.
“I don’t know if I could ever thank you guys enough for doing this,” she beams, making a note to thank James in the morning. God, the ring fits so perfectly she can’t believe it.
“Yeah, well, y’know,” Mitch nervously scratches his cheek, a rare smile betraying his lips, “whatever.”
”Mitch! Ya still down here!?” Ruby’s voice echoes from the top of the stairs. “Lou’s in the music room! Did’ja find the box of spare candles? We’re gonna need a lot to fill the whole place up!”
“Oh, shit-” Mitch hisses.
“No one’s down here!” Willy jumps into action, dashing towards the stairs and stretching his arms out. “ Do not enter !”
“Gah, Willy, move it!”
Clementine closes the small box and shoves it into her pocket before turning to face Ruby as she pushes Willy to the side. Ruby sets her lantern on the workbench, lighting up the basement enough for Clementine to make out the thrill brightening her eyes.
“Clementine!” she gasps.
It’s Clementine’s turn to receive a surprise hug when Ruby practically tackles her.
“Oh, Clem, I heard the news! Why didn’t ya tell me!? This is so excitin’! Ahh! I can’t believe ya didn’t tell me!”  Ruby pulls back to ask the boys, “Did’ja give ‘em to her yet?”
Clementine slowly turns to glare at the two boys.
Willy lowers his head in shame and Mitch fake coughs into his fist. Neither of them answers the question, nor do they dare look Clementine in the eye.
“ Mitch -”
“Before you flip the fuck out,” Mitch holds a finger up to stop her, ”she’s the one who came in here demanding to know what we were doing! She tried to wack me with one of Omar’s wooden spoons! I had to tell her!”
“Oh, no I didn’t! I said I would wack ya with one if ya didn’t explain yerself!” argues Ruby. “I thought ya were makin’ another bomb!”
“I haven’t messed with that shit for, like, weeks!”
Clementine can already see where this is going to go, and the best thing to do is stop it in its tracks.
“Okay, stop!” She raises her voice above theirs. The basement’s quiet again. She takes a deep breath. “I’m not mad.”
“You sound mad,” says Willy.
“I’m not. Ruby, you were going to find out about it anyway, though I can’t say I expected it to go down like this. Does anyone else know?”
“No,” says Ruby and Mitch.
“Uhm, well…” Willy nervously laughs.
“Dude,” Mitch frowns down at the young boy.
“I didn’t mean to! Aasim saw me going through my coin collection earlier! Then he started asking all these questions and it just came out! But, I made him swear on his soul he wouldn’t tell anyone!”
“What?” Ruby asks. “When was this?”
“This morning.”
“And he didn’t say anything to me!”
“Yeah, because Willy asked him not to,” Mitch says. “Keep up.”
Clementine feels the beginnings of a headache coming on.
She trusts Aasim. He's never let her down in the past, and he wouldn’t say anything to Louis, especially if he knows this is a surprise.
“Anyone else?” Clementine asks.
Willy shakes his head.
So, of the people in their group, AJ, James, Mitch, Willy, Ruby, and Aasim all know.
That just leaves Omar, Tenn, and…
And Violet.
She’s about to speak, but Ruby grabs her hand to admire the ring. “Wow, it’s even prettier on,” she gleams. “Gotta say, boys, ya did a real good job.”
Mitch rolls his eyes.
“Well, yeah .”
“How’re ya gonna ask him? James and I were thinkin’ that you do it in the music room, of course, and we’ll help ya decorate it with candles and lanterns, make it real romantic.”
“Gross,” Mitch murmurs.
“Hush,” Ruby warns him. “Or, on the roof, under the pretty stars! Or, we can even decorate yer dorm! Whattya think? Omar can cook ya something special and, oh! I found some real pretty classical records fer ya to play! Ya gotta set the mood, after all.”
“We can make some cool fireworks, too!” Willy exclaims.
“Oh, no you won’t! No bombs, no fireworks!”
“Just a few sparklers? To set the mood?”
“No! Especially if it’s inside! Which I think would be best since ya never know with the damn weather.”
“Wow, Ruby,” Clementine’s astonished at the girl’s excitement. “You’ve put a lot of thought into this.”
“‘Course! I know I may be buttin’ in a little-” Mitch scoffs “-but I never thought I’d get to witness somethin’ like this after all that’s happened! I mean, a wedding ! It’s like somethin’ outta the fairytales! And, listen, ya don’t hafta take my suggestions. You can ask him any way ya want! Just know that we’re all here to help! Oh, and the wedding !”
“Oh, God,” Mitch groans.
“We’re definitely plannin’ a wedding!”
“Geez, who’s really getting married here?” Mitch asks, irritated. “You or Clem?”
“Oh, shut it! Why can’t ya just be excited?”
“Excited about what? Does nothing for me.”
“Y’know, thinkin’ about someone else fer a change wouldn't kill ya!”
“Okay, please stop arguing,” Clementine interrupts them. “At least let me get through the actual proposal before we start doing anything else.”
“Shit,” Ruby curses herself, “sorry, Clem. Guess I got a little excited.”
“So, what’s the plan?” Willy asks eagerly. “When are we going this?”
Clementine peers down at the ring on her finger, and says, “Now that I have the rings, I’m going to do it tomorrow. In the evening. I like your idea, Ruby, about the candles in the music room.”
“Thought ya would,” Ruby grins. “We keep a bunch of ‘em down here. We’ll all help ya decorate, ‘cept keepin’ Louis outta there might be a task.”
“That’s easy,” Mitch says. “Send him hunting for the day, him and Aasim.”
“My goodness, there’s an idea,” says Ruby, “that way, Aasim can keep an eye on him and make sure he don’t wander back here unannounced.”
“James, too,” Clementine adds. “Just in case Louis doesn’t listen to Aasim, or they get in a tight spot.”
“Right!” Ruby claps her hands. “Oh, I’m gettin’ excited again!”
“Geez, you’re acting more excited than she is,” Mitch jerks his thumb at Clementine.
“Believe me, I don’t think anyone’s as excited as I am,” Clementine smiles, holding up her hand to admire the ring one last time before slipping it back in the box. “It’s just a lot to take in. We just have to be careful now. Louis can’t know anything.”
They all turn to Willy, who hangs his head in shame once more.
“I said it was an accident.”
“I know,” Clementine sighs. “Maybe you should avoid him for now, Willy. Just in case. And, Mitch,” she turns to him, “don’t throw any more shoes at him.”
“Hey, you want him wandering down here? No, you don’t. Thought we established that. ‘Sides, the ring’s done. Nothing left for me to work on.”
“Right, but still, you can’t be acting all suspicious. He’s already worried about you. That’s why he tried to come down here yesterday.”
“Pfft,” Mitch scowls. “Worried…”
“Well, while we know Lou’s in the music room, I’ll gather everyone before they turn in and we can discuss the plan. Don’t worry, we’ll be discreet,” Ruby assures her. “Mitch, yer on candle and match duty. Willy, in the mornin’ I want ya ta go out and pick as many pretty flowers as ya can.”
“Aw,” Willy pouts, “how come I got flower duty?”
“It’s either that or ya gotta help Omar cook. Yer choice.”
Willy doesn’t argue. Omar’s a genuinely nice guy, but he’s also an incredibly particular cook. Willy wasn’t going to willingly put himself into that nightmare.
Soon, they have all the details worked out.
Aasim and James will take Louis far away to go hunting until evening, giving them a few hours to set up.
Ruby will work on setting up a little picnic area for them on the floor and figure out the music. Willy will go around with Tenn and AJ to pick enough flowers for a bouquet, as well as decorate an old vase to put them in. Omar will cook them something extra special, and Mitch will gather all the candles and place them in the safest places around the music room.
As for Clementine herself, she’ll help fix things up in the piano room, but there’s something else she wants to try, as well. Something that she’s been contemplating for the past week.
She hides the box in her jacket with a big, dumb grin stuck on her face. She still can’t believe that Mitch, James, and Willy actually made her a matching set of wedding rings. She tries not to show it, but the very thought of both her and Louis wearing them makes her giddy.
But, there’s still an issue pressing on her mind.
“Ruby?” Clementine’s grin is replaced with a worrying frown. “Are… are you going to tell Violet?”
And, just like that, the room becomes tense.
“Violet?” asks Willy.
“Oh, well, shoot,” Ruby mutters, “didn’t even think of Vi.”
“Don’t fucking bother,” Mitch snaps. “She’s not gonna give a shit, and if she does, she’ll just ruin the whole thing.”
Ruby looks up at Mitch with distraught eyes. “We gotta tell her, Mitch. She’ll feel left out-”
“Oh, don’t start with that bullshit. Why do you anyways try to include her?”
“Because whether you like it or not, she’s one of us. She’s family.”
“Oh, please. She’s an asshole!”
“You bite yer tongue, right now!”
“Well, it’s true!”
“The only reason she’s mean ta you is because yer a jerk ta her first! God, everyone else is decent, why can’t you be?”
A sick feeling comes over her. Clementine can’t quite place what it actually is, but it always boils within her whenever the idea of talking to Violet strikes her.
Over the past two years, she’s tried talking to Violet. Not big things. Saying, “Hello,” or “How are you?” or “Are you okay?”
Every single time, Violet doesn’t mutter a single word. All she gives is a glare and the view of her back as she walks away.
She told Louis how much she missed Violet once.
He watched her suffer after losing Violet as a close friend. There were a few nights just after the delta that Clementine found herself crying, and he was there to hold her, to promise her that Violet would come around, she just needed time.
Louis tried to fix things between her and Violet.
She can still remember that night. He snuck into the darkness of the room. AJ was fast asleep.
Clementine can remember the rage filling her insides when she saw the bruise forming on his face and the tears slipping down his cheeks. She barely made it to the door before Louis grabbed her, begging her not to go after Violet, that she didn’t even know what happened. AJ woke up, and Louis lied about what was wrong. It was only when they were alone in the hallway that he told her what happened.
They’d gotten into an argument, Louis and Violet. An argument about her. Louis defended her and tried to understand Violet’s animosity. She refused to talk. She only cussed and shoved him away.
Louis got too close, and like a reflex, Violet swung.
Violet didn’t come out of her room for almost two weeks after that. She spoke to no one but Tenn when he brought her food.
She didn’t come out until Louis spoke to her again.
And it all happened because of her…
“Don’t worry about it, Ruby,” Clementine speaks up. “I’ll tell her.”
“The fuck you will!” Mitch‘s brow furrows in fury and his fists curl.
“It’s not like she’ll try to stab me just for talking to her,” Clementine argues.
“Oh yeah? Just like how she didn’t try to stab you after the delta, right? For fuck's sake, had Louis and James not stepped in you would’ve had a nice big gash right between your eyes! She attacked you, Clem! And she’s never said sorry or even pretended that she felt guilty about it! She betrayed us! She’s a traitor!”
“Mitch!” Ruby gasps out. “Don’t talk so ugly! Vi’s no such thing! That was years ago and things have changed! Maybe if you put in some more effort-”
“Oh, fucking hell-”
“-then you wouldn’t be so damn quick to be cruel! And y’know, maybe it is time they finally sort this out.”
“Fuck that!”
Clementine straightens herself out and confidently stands up to Mitch.
“I appreciate your concern, but-”
“My concern ?” Mitch glares. “What, my concern that I’ll have to dig your grave when that bitch snaps and puts a fucking cleaver in you?”
“She wouldn’t really do that, right?” Willy says, eyes widening.
“Of course she would! She’s-”
“Mitchell Robert Daymond!” Ruby exclaims, causing all of them to jump, startled. All eyes fall on Ruby’s small, angry form as she points right at Mitch’s face. “That is enough outta you. This ain’t yer choice, and bein’ a prick about it ain’t gonna get yer way! Gah, ya act like Vi’s some sorta- sorta monster and I’m sick of it.”
Mitch opens his mouth to speak, only to have Ruby cut him off.
“ No ,” she demands. “ No more .”
The air becomes uncomfortably heavy as the two glare at one another. Clementine finds herself breathing slower as if a regular breath would be too much for the tension. Glancing over at poor Willy, she finds him standing close behind Mitch, still gripping his arm and looking between the two.
Only when Mitch tears his gaze away to scowl at the floor does Ruby turn back to Clementine.
“If this is somethin’ ya wanna do, then we’re right behind ya,” she says. “Vi’s not gonna be happy about it, that’s fer sure, but she won’t do nothin’ ta hurt ya, either. I know it.”
The tension in her shoulders relax with her sigh as Clementine nods.
“I know, and you’re right. I’m tired of this. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life avoiding her when I can try and make things right. Maybe we won’t ever be friends again, but we can at least be on speaking terms." Clementine looks to her ring once more. “Louis will want her at the wedding, and if she isn’t there because of me…”
“Do what ya can, Clem,” Ruby smiles, placing a comforting hand on Clementine’s shoulder. “Just... promise you’ll be careful?”
“I will.”
“Fucking shit,” Mitch hisses under his breath, rubbing both hands over his face in frustration. “If you’re actually serious, then you’re not going alone. I’ll go with you and make sure she doesn’t pull anything.”
“I don’t think that’s a great idea,” Ruby objects. “Yer not exactly sensitive when it comes to stuff like this.”
“Fuck off, I can be sensitive,” Mitch snaps. “I mean- Not that I’d- ... It’s better if someone goes with her and last I checked, you’re supposed to be on watch with Aasim right now. And don’t you have a plan to share, too?”
Ruby hesitates, turning to Clementine with concern.
Clementine can see why Mitch tagging along wouldn’t be ideal, but she had to admit that having a backup would make her feel a little bit better. Even if he merely escorted her to Violet’s room or made it known that he was only there to keep things from escalating to a boiling point- which, again, Mitch isn’t the ideal candidate for this role- it’d make her feel better.
Then again, Violet might be doubly pissed to see Mitch, as well.  If there’s anyone she despises as much as Clementine, it’s Mitch.
“You don’t have to-” Clementine starts, only to have him raise his hand.
“Yeah, I don’t have to do anything,” he frowns. “But, I’m gonna anyway.”
That gets a smile out of her.
“And you won’t threaten her?”
He stares, then lowers his head in defeat.
“I won’t say nothin’ unless I gotta.” Then, he turns to Willy. “You okay to clean this place up yourself?”
“Yeah, no problem,” Willy smiles.
“Well, ehm, guess I’ll get Aasim and James and tell ‘em ‘bout the plan,” says Ruby. “Vi should be in her room. She usually turns in early when she doesn’t have watch.”
Before leaving, Ruby turns to Mitch with one final warning, “Be nice.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
The feeling’s back, twisting in Clementine’s gut and accelerating her heart.
With that, they leave the basement.
---
The music room is filthy.
Usually, Louis doesn’t notice or even pay much attention to the cleanliness of any room within the school due to the fact this everywhere is dirty. It doesn’t matter how much Ruby pushes or how many times Aasim scolds them for leaving messes wherever they go, the school will never match the cleanly standards it had prior to the end of the world.
They have more important things to think about anyway, right?
Or maybe they just can’t be bothered.
Perhaps both.
But when he sat at the piano, fingers playing the keys he knew by heart, he noticed a thick layer of dust settled on the worn wood.
Swiping a finger across the top left him absolutely disgusted. To be honest, he can’t remember the last time he actually cleaned the piano, but given that the layer of dust is thick enough to make actual dust bunnies out of, it’s been a while.
In fact, the music room is kind of a disaster.
And he needs a better distraction anyway.
Sorting through the records he kept, he picks a classic record to play at random and gets to work.
Within an hour, he’s already filled an old cardboard box with the trash that once occupied the floor, the tables, and everywhere else that garbage built up over years. Old soda cans, soiled books, broken shards of glass by the windows- all gone.
Louis wipes down the piano with an old T-shirt he oddly found beneath the couch. Pictures from what looks to be a pirate comic fill the front of the shirt and for the life of him, he can’t remember whose shirt this is. Or was.
He knows he’s seen it before, knows someone wore it… someone not around anymore.
Shit.
Nevermind, he doesn’t want to think about that right now. Pushing that thought out of mind, he continues wiping away the dust. While the piano would always be worn, defaced, and out of tune, he still loved it and should remember to keep better care of it.
So many memories were made sitting here.
Most good, some bad.
Memories of him sitting there with clumsy fingers, young and untrained, awaiting his cue from Minnie as she finished jotting down lyrics to their song.
“Nevermind the darkness, nevermind the storm-”
Memories of him entertaining Tenn when he was scared of a thunderstorm, or playing something silly to make Violet smile.
Memories of him and Clementine the night of the delta attack.
“You are super cute.”
“Cute? Wow, uhm-”
Their first kiss.
Louis runs his finger over their initials encased in a heart, carved by Clementine’s own hand that night right before he opened up to her, thanked her for being with him despite… well, everything.
God, it seems so far away.
Since then, more memories have festered within these walls, here at the piano.
“For once, I don’t think you’ve thought this through.”
“Why?”
Satisfied with his work, Louis tosses the shirt away. He slips off his jacket, setting it over the arm of the couch before placing himself comfortably at the piano once more.
“First of all, it’s going to take us a million years to build all nine-hundred floors. Second, we’re going to need so much paint, and even with all of us helping, it’s going to take us two million years to paint it all! Third, nine-hundred floors means-”
“Nine-hundred and fourteen.”
A deep breath.
“Excuse me, nine-hundred and fourteen floors means this house is going to be high up in the stars- literally in space!- and you yourself said that you hate climbing stairs. Do you know how many sets of stairs we’re going to need to make it to the top?”
“We’ll have an elevator.”
“That goes through the whole place?”
“Yep. Up, down, and sideways.”
“That’s ridiculous. I love it.”
Eyes close.
Clementine laughs, pushing against his shoulder as he shakes his head. Whether his chuckle is due to the madness of Clementine’s floor plan, or because her fingers continue to purposely play the wrong keys, he doesn’t know anymore.
“Then, what about a slide?” she suggests. “A big metal slide that loops around and brings you from top to bottom in seconds.”
“I like it, I like it,” he ponders, tapping his chin thoughtfully. “Except, that won’t help us in actually getting to the top.”
The cool air blows in through the open window, flickering the flames of his candles and kissing the warmth of his cheeks.
“What’ll be at the top, anyway?” she asks. “What’ll be worth climbing all those stairs to see?”
“I don’t know, but it has to be something special.” He thinks about it for a moment. “What do you want?”
“Me?” she asks.
Pulling her hand off the keys, holding it in his own, he asks, “What do you want at the top?”
Another deep breath.
“I don’t know.”
“C’mon, Clem,” Louis urges. “Anything you want. Name it.”
She stares down at their linked hand, eyes drift shut as she thinks.
“Well… we have to have that skylight, right?”
“Obviously, but that’s something I wanted, remember?”
“Well, I want one, too. If we’re going to be up in space, I want to see it. Imagine seeing the moon that up close.”
“Maybe we’ll have aliens tapping on our roof.”
“I hope so.”
He kisses her forehead, then her cheek, whispering in her ear, “What do you really want, Clementine?”
Louis’ fingers move effortlessly.
His soft lullaby fills the air.
“A tree,” she says firmly. “An apple tree with bright red Honeycrisps, right in the corner, and it’s roots throughout the floor, and-” she grabs his hand, comparing it to hers by pressing their palms together, “- a piano in the center. Any kind you want.”
Their fingers lace together.
“A glossy, grand piano. Mahogany- the color of leaves in autumn,” he brushes a curl from her face, “unbreakable and always in tune.”
“And you’ll teach me to play?”
“You willing to climb nine-hundred and fourteen floors every day for your lessons?”
“Of course.”
It’s been a long time since he’s thought of their home- rather, their outrageous dream house that was inspired by the depressing story of how his own parents didn’t get to finish building their new home.
A royal purple, nine-hundred and fourteen floor mansion with a treehouse, a skylight, and an apple tree growing on the top floor. Several pools, movie theatres, pizza parlors, bedrooms, bathrooms with hot tubs and full body showers, aquariums, roller parks- and even with all those things, they still have plenty of room left.
Louis knows the possibility of that mansion coming to fruition is lower than low, they both know that, but it doesn’t make it any less fun to imagine.
How many nights did they stay up in bed discussing what kind of statue they wanted for the fountain, or what shade of purple they’d paint their bedroom, or how many dogs they would adopt, or if they were going to make Mitch sleep in the treehouse rather than giving him his own room?
Louis stops playing, chuckling to himself.
It’s been a long time since he’s played by himself happily, or since he’s thought of composing a brand new song. Usually, when he’s down here so late by himself, it’s to calm down after an all-consuming nightmare-
No.
Don’t think about that.
Don’t think about that.
Don’t think.
“An apple tree with bright red Honeycrisps, right in the corner, and it’s roots throughout the floor...”
Maybe he can’t build Clementine an outrageous purple mansion, but he can write her a new song.
As Louis becomes lost in the music, a brief thought runs through his mind.
Finally... a nice night.

Pony stays in the other section of the building. She said it was a different Panda division but when I asked her what it looked like she texted back ‘worktables with beds, there are about 24 others and no one talks’
The same as in my section. There are 20 of us. And about 50 writing tables. I’m in the front on the left, close to the door. The walls are covered with brown wooden panels dating back to the previous century I believe, in the corner long rectangle speakers and on the front wall two ShunSha LED screens which tell us the weather and switch to the Panda statement, our commitment to Panda and the recognition we will get if we get through. I turn my eyes away. I better focus on what I need to do.
In the morning, they serve breakfast on the side of the room, on large tables. White and brown bread with marmalade, peanut butter, and chocolate sprinkles with butter on shelves. Slices of cheese and bacon in plastic containers. Same at noon. For supper, big pans of stew are rolled in, with whitebread and spoons.
We are not allowed to go to the sleeping section after 8.30 am. In the evenings, everybody crashes on their beds, grabs their cell phones, some bottles of alcohol or other drinks, some smoke cigarettes from the windows in the toilets. I don’t pay attention to them, most of the time I’m in bed right after  8 pm.
In the morning I eat my sandwich, I like the marmalade and I eat a sandwich while I prepare a peanut butter and gelly one for while I’m working. It’s not allowed but they let me. I also keep my phone with me while working.
“Reached 40,000” Pony texted, “revision going well?”
“Edited up to six chapters, think I’m going to make it.”
“Good. Good. Think of you, go go go Pigtails, love you”
“Need help?”
But Ponytail doesn’t answer. 40,000 words and only 3 more weeks to go.
In the morning the fear that filled my heart the evening before comes up almost instantly when I wake up. I dreamt about her, how we were swimming in the roaring waters of the Mississippi. “M-I-S-S-I-S-S-P-P-I,” she said as water gulped in her mouth. “Pony, you need to swim, cut the crap” I shouted. “M-I-S-S…” but she didn’t get any further, the part of the river was loud and I had a hard time pulling her up above the water and keeping alive myself.
My little sister, Justine, the tiny baby born when I was four. Her body frame stayed small and frail. When she was young she started calling me Pigtails instead of Amanda. I liked pigtails in my hair. Tamara became Pinky, Tamara loved her pink leggings. She asked Justine how we should call her and Justine fluttered the peaking hair on her head. Mom had tried to created ponytails on either side of her head. “Ponytails!” And from that moment on we were there, ponytails, pigtails and pinky, later Pony, Pig and Pinky.
“You’ll get it done?” I text. The ward comes in slamming the bell and just to avoid the noise everybody walks to their working tables to start up their word processors, ugly old Dynamics. Mine hums during the day, I listen to it as the clicking of my keys moves along.
“Get started sunshines, poop out the books and go for the million!” the ward shouted as loud as he could over the bell. “People are anxious for your books, com’on, we’re halfway there, three more weeks!”
My phone buzzes “I might”.
On the wall the screen turns on, bright white, two of them showing one image, the table with the chair, cut in half by the black plastic borders of the SunShu. But we know. Fear sets in the group, we all look around and count. We are still with 20. It must be from the other group. I look at my phone but the ward is still close and he might see me. My fingers slowly tick on the screen ‘y-o-u 0-k-a-y?’ and press send. Pony sends back a ‘y’
The Panda declaration about how we signed up for writing the next bestseller comes up. How we committed to a good sellable story and how the first draft was due in 6 weeks with at least 100,000 words. Panda would help us. Panda guarantees sales of 50,000 copies to all Panda members around the world and oh just so you know Panda has 31,000 active daily accounts. Daily
“We will change your life” it then said. One sentence. “And you agreed we could have it if you fail”
I don’t recognize the person. She fights the two men who hold her upper arms, we hear ‘No, no!’ but the men guide her to a table where her head is pushed down on the table. A third person behind the chair walks up and pushes the muzzle again the back of her neck. I close my eyes and try not to hear the echoing bang.
My editing work goes in trembling episodes that day. The killings. The killing is a condition. Panda’s idea of motivating. I think of my mother. I think of Pinkytail and Ponytail, Pinky who went into options trading, and Pony who said she could write a winning Panda book but said last week she was struggling, I can’t worry about her because I need to get my book done.
This is my second run. I got through the first run and went home. They all hugged me. The money, Panda’s money was in my bank account already, 99,000 dollars. Pinky hugged me and we both cried. We didn’t tell Pony but let her tag along when we picked up mom’s wheelchair, the three of us in the truck, singing and laughing. Pony cried when I paid for the wheelchair in the store, asking ‘where did you get the money, where did you get it?’ and I said I finished a Panda session. Pony burst out in crying. Couldn’t stop. Even in the car home she kept saying ‘That’s where you were, I was wondering what happened. You could have been killed Pigs, don’t ever do that again!” But I hugged her and we both cried. We bought cranberries at the farm store and we ate ice cream on the bench, we overlooked the land and the sun shone, we looked at each other and there was nothing more than love and gratitude. They didn’t know I had already signed up to go back. The edited version – once approved by Panda – would pay me $499,999.-.
Enough to buy mom and all of us a new future. We could move.
The next day, I wake up refreshed. I am not sure what has caused this but I decide to take the sweep of energy and get to work at my desk. The others complain and wipe their eyes, two of them pout about not hitting their targets but I block it out. Two double sandwiches, one with cheese and bacon, the other a peanut butter and gelly sit on my desk. I work through two chapters stringently blocking out the ward with the bell, blocking out my hunger and my tea getting cold. I read the words and weigh them in my head, re-create sentences and my muse works in the background, it’s just him and me. When I take a sip of my tea I notice it’s cold. I take a bite of my sandwich, afraid I will lose the zone I’m in if I eat more. I write like I did when I was younger, pumping out words that came to mind, the movie continued endlessly and went as fast as my fingers could keep up. For my mom. My mom, I see her at her sewing machine, winding a bobbin and working on my favorite blouse.
Before lunch I have 8 chapters done. They bring in the lunch, the bread, the bacon, and the cheese. I ate my breakfast about an hour ago but I’m hungry again.
“They brought me in,” Pony’s text says.
My hands tremble. Pony got her warning. “How far are you?”
“40k”
I look at my phone. She was at 40k yesterday, she was supposed to be at at least 50,000 words.
“You said you could do it”
“I’m scared Pigs”
Fear fills my gut. I panic. They read her work last night, they always do. Based on their algorithms they have determined Pony is in the danger zone and she needs to make up at least 50%. There is one next warning. I think of Pinky and the story I was writing on at home.
I looked to the others in my room. Some are comfortable. With headphones in and others biting their nails as they write, some panic, some pound out the words. I text Pony but she doesn’t answer back.
I eat lunch. My brain is on overdrive. I walk around the room, it’s air-conditioned but the weather outside is warm. Then Pinky texts me. I cannot look at my phone at the lunch table when the staff is there so I need to get to my desk. I chew quickly and glob down some tea. I try to make it look casual as I walk to my desk and start to type a document so it seems I’m back to work.
Pinky says: “I sent you the story, does Pony know how to decrypt? If they find out…” I see the paperclip friendly blinking in a corner. I only have to resend it to Pony. But then the door opens and Simone steps in, she looks at me with an iron smile saying ‘Come with me please’. I freeze. The others are silent and I don’t know what’s wrong. I go into the office where I signed my contract with Panda, I remember sitting here, the pen on a chain is still there.
“We are following your progress, Amanda. You are doing very well and we wondering if you’d be done by next week at this pace?”
I look up to Simone. There must have been a beautiful woman at one point I guess. Now she turned older. And less caring.
“Don’t I have 2 more weeks?”
“You do, you do. But we can get in print quicker if you want”, Amanda twists her pencil, “there could be a bonus.”
I’m silent.
“You’ll get 50,000 more”
I overthink the situation. Suddenly I don’t care about the money anymore and grab all my courage “How much does it cost me to get Pony out?”
“And your work is done?”
Is she going to say they’d take my book and we both walk? I would agree. But no matter how hard it is to stay quiet, I say nothing.
Simone doesn’t need to talk this over, she makes the decisions herself. I wonder if she is maybe the manager of Panda Books herself. She says, “Finish her story as well?”
I do the math. Two weeks and some days to finish the story. They read Pony’s story so I have to go with that, I can’t change it. I think.
Panda publishes the “Dead Man’s Anthology”, the stories from the killed authors. Unfinished stories. It sells like crazy, sometimes better than the books of the winners. Panda is in for the money. The killing is a marketing tool for them. They are the only ones with a license from the government on the condition that Panda pays the family of the writers 30%.
If I can’t produce 30,000 words per week I’ll die. With Pony. While we came here to save our mother. Get a better life. If we were to stay over the weekend I’d have to finish my book and write another 5000 words on Pony’s story. My answer not only determines the rest of my life. Pony’s as well.  And the rest of the family.
Then Simone looks up. “It looks like you don’t have to decide Amanda, your sister has committed to finishing the story, I just got the message.”
“Committed?”
“She is at work right now and their ward says she’s doing good.”
I leave. Get back to my desk, the others look at me. I was never aware Pony was there until she texted me on the first day, four weeks ago. I was shocked. She said she had hoped she would in my group but Panda put her in the other group. Panda made publishers aware that they had two of the Peterson sisters writing stories and there were betting games on who would sell the best books. But Pony wasn’t a writer. Pinky read hers once and said it was fluff. She wouldn’t survive Panda’s One Million Dollar Writing Camp. But on the first day already had 30 million viewers per day. Sales skyrocketed. Said Pinky.
‘Why are you here?” I asked
“I want to help you. Do what you do”
“You’ll get yourself killed”
“You didn’t get killed.”
And I almost wanted to write ‘I can write’ but I didn’t. I didn’t sleep that first night. My sister Ponytails was here too, I tried not to get sick but it cost me 2 days to stop thinking about Pony.
Pony didn’t answer my texts after my meeting with Simone. I finished my book four days early and Pinky kept me in the loop about the contest on the outside. Bidding was way up in my favor.
I make the last revisions to my story. The bright white screen comes on every day but I ignore it. I push the ear-thing inside my ear every time so I can block it out. I block out the ward in the morning as I revise my story.
Pinky tells me Pony and I are tied. I block that out as well, this is madness, I will never sign up for a Panda writing if we make it out alive.
On the last day, the screen comes on but now it’s black.
We look at each other, 17 left from our group.
From the screen in high definition I can hear Pony ‘I couldn’t make it. Go Pigtails, go’ and the click is silent but deafening. I scream, I cry, They killed Pony? They killed my sister! We were tied!
 My book sells well.
Pony’s sells better. It was the only one sold as a separate book. Pony’s share floats into our bank account.
Panda’s show brings in millions.
My family moves. We do get a better house, and my mother gets better. We bury Pony, Pony gave us a better life. Pony outsmarted us all.

Deku vs Kacchan 2, full episode live reaction/commentary
Tumblr media
AHHHH it’s time and finally here, the important and long-awaited cathartic showdown I’ve been wanting to see animated for ages, as one of my most favorite parts of the manga, both character and relationship wise. ;A; Managed to stay offline and avoid reaction spoilers so I could see it fresh for myself without any distractions. So here we go with my whole in depth breakdown of the episode! 8’D Where I repeatedly get stabbed in the heart and end up completely losing my shit! Length: 4000+ words.
Edit: several of the sub’s lines have since been shown to be mistranslated, which I still transcribe here for comparison’s sake, since I already have the manga’s script memorized anyway. :’D
Last ep left us hanging with Deku’s reaction to Kacchan’s proposal for a fight, so bam, I’m glad this ep starts off immediately with his fumbling answer to him (midpoint of ch117). Ahh, if there’s one thing I miss from the manga, it’s the panel of Kacchan’s deadpan reaction to Deku’s rambling. The anime instead keeps his face half hidden until–
Tumblr media
GAH!!!! ;A; THERE IT IS!!! His sudden face of open and honest sincerity! (One of my fav manga panels actually.) Subs have his line as, “What part of you made All Might do what he did? Let me see for myself. If the way you admired him was correct, then does that mean my admiration was wrong?” Oh noo... :’O The anime doesn’t show his whole face warping into a pained, unnerving expression like the manga does (and in a way I was hoping to see that transition animated), but instead shows an extreme close up of his eye, desperate and dead serious. Gbhgh, very tense and chilling (omg plus that dramatic choir ost swelling in the bg is getting to me too).
Flashback to both their childhood lines about All Might! UGH!!! I was not expecting baby Deku’s line to be that broken and watery! D’8 And said over the image of them standing opposed like that??!!! URGHHH fucking hell!!!
Tumblr media
Crying and trembling baby Deku’s aspirations, said when he found out he was quirkless, with his dreams probably permanently crushed, and emotionally at his lowest, helpless, and most vulnerable point, REALLY GETS TO ME?! Fuck!! Just a prelude to seeing Kacchan’s turn at his most emotionally vulnerable too. (gwah, break for the opening, hah I forgot that hadn’t even played yet :P)
….!!!!!! 👀👀 Shit, shit!! There’s almost no room to breathe here! Ayy they show Kacchan stretch his arms and note how Deku uses kicks now (yoo he’s observant and watches Deku too), but gah! You can really feel Deku’s ‘hold on, wait!!’ pleas, because holy fuck this is jumping into it so fast! I’m not ready either!! D8
Tumblr media
Ok, I can actually breathe a bit when Deku slows down to analyze which hand Kacchan will use, but ohh!!! They animated one of my fav effects, the popping sparks on Kacchan’s palm before he lets it all loose. :’D Hoo, “You like to read a lot into things, huh?” They don’t show the manga’s direct view of his smirk for this line, but do show the panels for their dual “Come on!” vs “Are you serious, Kacchan?” lines. (Hooboi, I’m recognizing manga panels left and right here. And why yes, Deku, Kacchan has been dead serious about what he wants from you this whole time.)
Tumblr media
Yooo, that one sliding shot of them closing in face to face from the preview, but damn, that extra shot of all the over the top destruction to their vicinity. Whew, now that’s impressive for showing the scale/magnitude and seriousness of his explosions. :O (The collateral damage wasn’t shown nearly to that extent in the manga however, so wow. Also uwaah at the chilling ost for when Aizawa is notified.)
Ayyy!!! My fav bits of popping sparks are animated again. :D What isn’t shown is the manga’s detailed close up panels of them crouched on opposite sides of the road, but rather now they’re standing there, until Kacchan forcefully leaps onto Deku’s side. Visually this is an interesting and heyyy symbolic change.
Tumblr media
Mmmm!!! Deku’s pleas for him to wait remind Kacchan of when baby Deku used to say the same to him in the past. :’))) To wait for him so Deku could catch up from following behind. Hrgh, symbolic flashback montage time. ;.; “No matter how much I beat you up,” ehhh more like he knocked Deku back down whenever he intruded too close for comfort, to try and make him stay back and stop pursuing him (to no avail however), “you were always stuck to my back like glue…!” Yup, because Deku’s spirit never gave up. :’) Ah, and now present Kacchan telling him, “Don’t run! Fight!” feels like a very challenge TO Deku’s tendency to always stick close to him. The Deku he’s always known can’t just break that behavior now and run away, especially not when Kacchan’s actually invited/allowed him into his space this time (figuratively, by acknowledging and offering the fight)! :O
Tumblr media
“Even though we both admired the same person…!” ;.; To which Kacchan also recalls All Might’s words to him from their final exam, and how their levels of growth are different. (ok and by the way, the ost during this part is !!!!!) Fuck, fuck!!! D8 All Kacchan’s repeated and desperate questions “why?!” during their rapid back and forth of mixed blows, blocks and kicks…! (omgggg this animated sequence!) To Deku’s surprise counter-kick back, and…
Tumblr media
The trip and FALL. (btw ost completely silences now) It’s coming it’s coming it’s coming…! Notice the position of the street’s center divide line. How both of them are stopped so close to the center now, yet still edging on opposite sides. Deku, shocked and realizes Kacchan might be hurt…powers down and instantly runs to him with the familiar outstretched hand & offer to help! ;A; Throwback to the river incident when Kacchan also fell and Deku offered THE same question, “A-Are you okay?” Ooof, the instant nerve button and animated slap away!
Tumblr media
Ffffruuggh!! Shit, it’s happening; Kacchan’s voice is breaking. ;A; How he teeters and stands up swaying. “Why did I end up having to chase after the back of someone who was always behind me?” URGHH oh goddd, I’m in pain with the raspy broken delivery already. Also, now that Kacchan’s standing up, his feet are parted on both sides of the line, where now both him and Deku are standing in the center of the road. “Why did a damn small fry like you get strong…and become acknowledged by All Might…? Why is it that you become strong…but I…” SHIT SHIT SHIT;;; “Why was I…” Ohhhh my god, the slow raise of his head…!
Tumblr media
“Why was I the one who ended All Might?!” HHHRRUUGHHH!!! THERE IT IS!! The most pained face of desperation and anguish. At probably his most conflicted and emotionally vulnerable point that he’s ever been in the story ;A; Just fucking end me where Nobu makes his voice crack and go all shrill while letting it all out. Some animated sakuga on the delivery and shake of his head here too, kkrghh. ;.; “If I’d been stronger and if I hadn’t been kidnapped by villains, then that wouldn’t have happened…” (ost starts again, and hrgg yes, the animated wipe at his eyes) “All Might tried to keep it a secret…I couldn’t tell anyone! Even if I try not to think about it…it just comes to mind unexpectedly!” (fuck me upppp, the way they animated him shaking his head here ;A;) “I don’t know what to do!” THE TEARS!!! It…it finally happened, and welp, I’m a mess now too. ;A; Kacchan’s line where he wails he doesn’t know what to do, would have had extra context/weight with Twice’s chapter shown before it (as in the manga). Because Twice notes how important it is to know ‘who you are and what you want to do’...and right now we see Kacchan currently struggling at that same personal and internal impasse. (Fortunately it looks like Twice’s part will still be adapted later.)
The shock here, that Deku feels, that I felt when I first read this part in the manga…and the realization that solidified with it, made me finally understand who my fav character was all along. There was no longer any doubt or denial holding me back anymore. Kacchan is that bleeding heart. At his most openly raw and vulnerable, bearing his true self for the entire audience and most importantly, for only Deku to see. Oh no…MY BOYYYYYYYY!!! ;A; <3333 “He’s been carrying this with him this whole time…! More than me…this whole time… He’s been worrying about it…Thinking about it…”
Tumblr media
Hrgh, and Deku understands now too, just how much self-blame and guilt Kacchan put himself through after All Might’s retirement. Kacchan had been in more pain over it than Deku. With Deku shouldering the responsibility of All Might passing the torch onto him with the ‘your next’ line, Kacchan had shouldered the responsibility of believing he was the very reason that caused the end to his idol’s legacy of heroism. Taking a stab wound through his own heart, enduring that burden all by himself, and without able to tell anyone about it either. All while keeping up appearances that he’s ‘strong’ on the outside, yet all along hating how weak he actually is. Because of his inability and powerlessness to prevent this huge loss from happening in the first place.
“There might not be any meaning in this fight. There might not be any meaning in winning or losing. Even so, I thought that I had to go through with it. Because right now, I’m the only one who can accept Kacchan’s feelings.”
Tumblr media
BOIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!! There it is! ;A; Because it’s so true. Deku is the only one who can possibly understand both the familiarity and magnitude of what Kacchan is going through now. Good lord, Deku monologues this while Kacchan slowly steps towards him, teetering on the edge of the literal white line!!! Ah wait no, he steps over it and runs to the other (Deku’s) side of the road!! URGHHHHH!!!! Destroy me with this visual ‘walking the line’ symbolism!! ;A; Even Deku braces himself over both sides of the center line, to receive and deliver an answering kick right back at him, in the physical language Kacchan wants right now. Here we goooo~
Tumblr media
More Deku internal monologue: “He might’ve just wanted to release these feelings he couldn’t do anything about by fighting. Even if that was the case, I couldn’t just completely reject him. It was kind of twisted if you thought about it.” Hrm, choosing to word it as a ‘twisted’ way of thinking, huh. “From kindergarten to elementary school, middle school, and high school…We’ve known each other for a long time, but until now, we’ve never talked about how we really felt.” Krgh, fuck me uppp with that shot of them back to back together. ;A;
Ahhhh!!! This part of the action resembles Nakamura’s a bit, with the dynamic zoom ins, impact frames, and flashy flame effects. ;A; Can only just sit in awe and watch it happen. No thinking indeed.
Tumblr media
GUH! All the way up to the physical strike Kacchan gives to Deku’s core…ouch ouch;;; That bit animating how Deku dents the railing from the force of impact tho. D8 Omg these manga panels are implemented so quick, with them reacting and continuing without pause! Deku backflipping off the rail, but Kacchan catches his arm and throws him. The recoil landing him back in same place where Deku first landed on the rail too. Gosh these details!! DD8
“It’s only natural, but I’ve gotten stronger…” hrmm, the manga had it seem like Deku was comparing his slow reaction time to Kacchan’s rapid moves, while also praising him out loud too. Now, the subs have Deku talking and referring to only himself…to which Kacchan responds with “What’re you smiling about!?”…so which pronoun is the truth. But oh shit!!! Yoooo, that ost begins! 8’DD
Tumblr media
“I’m sure you’re up to something! That’s what makes me sick! I can’t tell what you’re thinking! No matter how much I beat you up, you stick close! Even though you were nothing, it’s like you’re looking down on me!” *gasp* Only now, does Deku finally register and hear those words. It’s the same thing Kacchan told him during their first vs match, how he felt Deku was always looking down on him. They didn’t stop to listen to each other, and couldn’t even accurately read each other’s signals, this whole time! “That attitude you have like you’re better than me, like you’re seriously gonna surpass me– It’s an eyesore!” Because yep, Kacchan just can’t understand Deku’s intentions either. Can’t read or fathom why on earth Deku would bother to keep coming back to him regardless of all his attempts to keep him away.
“Is…Is that what you thought?” (ah yes, and I notice how Kacchan is standing on both sides of the white line again) “I mean, normally, if someone keeps looking down on you, you won’t want anything to do with them anymore.” Ya Deku, because that’s the same thing Kacchan thought about you too, that he felt like he was also being looked down on, by someone who was perpetually and already deemed the weakest, so he tried to distance himself from the walking conundrum (the contradictory person he couldn’t understand: Deku) that incited those confusing and wary feelings. Avoiding Deku didn’t work, physically and verbally pushing him away didn’t work, because Deku always returned back to him. If Kacchan ultimately couldn’t do anything about it, then the only thing left for him to wonder, is WHY?!
“But like I said before, because I had nothing at first, along with the parts I hated about you, I saw vividly all the amazing things you could do!” UWAHH!!
Tumblr media
There it is, the sub’s version of the ‘to the same extent as all of your unpleasant traits, your sheer amazingness at everything you do was so brilliant to me, it was blinding!’ :’))))) “You, who had so much that I didn’t have, were an amazing person much closer to me than All Might!” BAWWWWW!!! There it is! ;A; His ‘Kacchan sugoi!’ Comparing everything he admired in him to something much closer, reachable, and worth aiming for in his life than their far-off, distant idol, All Might. ;.; As the answer to Kacchan’s why: Deku had always chased and sought after him, because he was that personal source of inspiration. How Deku viewed the positives he saw in him was so important, it likely kept the hope of his aspirations afloat ever since he was a toddler, when Deku had otherwise nothing else to keep him going. Without Kacchan nearby in Deku’s life, it’s doubtful Deku’s spirit would have even grown as strong as it is today. Kacchan is that important to him!!
(Holy fuck this is only just the HALFWAY POINT of the ep!! ;A; They managed to cover THIS much content in 10 min, whewboi that’s impressive.)
Omgg there it is, Kacchan’s unhinged grin at seeing Deku momentarily gain on him with a solid hit he could not avoid. Hoho, perhaps he likes it. ;) Finally getting a worthy answer and challenge to play toe to toe. His game on literally flares at that! Bonus: his eyes finally have a visible shine returned to them!!!! ;A;
Tumblr media
Ok omg wait no, THIS animated part looks more like Nakamura’s style! Improvising off the manga’s panels for a flashy new set of choreography with plenty of impact frames!! 8D Fav part, to no one’s surprise: the shot of Kacchan’s glowing/sparking palm. Oh fuk that’s cool. <3
Hoho, and it’s not just Kacchan’s game that’s sparked, Deku’s has been too, to the point he even starts channeling Kacchan’s more ill-mannered traits. “This is gross, so I can’t tell you to your face, but…” (omg wut, gross? Heh goodness, Deku’s that embarrassed by it. :P) “When my feeling of ‘I have to beat you’ is stronger than ‘I have to save you,’ I inadvertently start spouting more insults. That’s the part of you that I hate, but the image of ‘victory’ I have inside me is of you.” …!!!!!! Urggkgh ;.;
Tumblr media
Deku’s inner confession time. When he wants to win just as badly just as Kacchan does, aka his ‘what would Kacchan do?’ moments, without consciously controlling it, he starts behaving just like him too, foul-mouthed and all. :’D Even taking on the parts of him he dislikes. Kacchan’s influence runs that deep, and he’s set that much of an amazing, winning example to strive for, that Deku pretty much unconsciously becomes the embodiment of him whenever he gets desperate too. Whew, let that sink in. For how much Deku values Kacchan. :’D
Hooo, love the shot of Kacchan leaping up, for the way it’s framed AND because his eyes appear to be glowing red. :’D Yuuus, adapting a manga panel so nicely!
Tumblr media
“I’m not a nice enough guy to just go along with your stress-relieving fight.” Hoho! And yuus, Deku has his own backbone to fully stand up to him with his own strength. Omgg and the shot zooming in from afar with the camera doing a full rotation around them leaping at each other! Ahhh! So cool!
Deku’s not handicapped to stick to just his legs (that would be using only half his repertoire, which wouldn’t fly in an honest, all-out challenge vs Kacchan) “I want to beat you, the incarnation of victory!” ;A; “In order to meet the expectations of All Might, who chose me!” By delivering his classic, straight ‘smash’ punch!
Tumblr media
Krhggh!!! The punch actually brings shine to Kacchan’s eyes too, at the moment he resolves not to lose. His trademark tenacity and resourcefulness are not to be underestimated! Omgg, the animation of his arm grabbing Deku’s sleeve! :O Flipping them into an explosive pile-drive right down to the asphalt.
Smoke clears, and AKLFHLGHGJHGJ?! It’s the pin where they’re both breathing and wheezing hard!!! (Truth be told, when I first saw this page in the manga, it left me going uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh for…what it almost looks like. :P) Fucking hell, animation team went even further with the tightening movements in the close up shots for each hold. ERMM 👀;;; Ahahaha wow, I can’t ignore how suggestive this looks, uh, and hears. Omg BONES pls. ;D
Tumblr media
Yooo, and even though Kacchan won this, he’s not happy or gloating about it either. Rather he reproachfully questions Deku, while still taking heaving breaths over him, ahh and there’s less blood on his face than expected, that if he has All Might’s power, then what is he doing losing? “Even with that power…even if you made that your own…You still lost to me…Hey…Why did you lose?” Like Kacchan can’t believe it himself. Heck, even from the pained look on his face, it’s almost like he wanted Deku to win.
Speak of the devil! Because the man himself arrives, having heard the whole thing. Ayy, and we have both boys completing each other’s sentence upon seeing him too. :’)
Kacchan’s “It’s too late…” while looking away, in response to All Might apologizing for not noticing, has me pained. ;.; Now, fully asking All Might the same ‘why’ about Deku too, for a clear answer this time. ‘I thought you were strong as someone who could already compete; he was powerless but more heroic than anyone else, so I decided he should also be able to stand in the ring.’
“I’m weak, too, you know…!” ;A; Ah!!! Oh no, my heart. “I always wanted to be strong, like you! It’s because I’m weak…that I made you turn into that…!” Uhuhuu, oh no, my boy. <333 Ooof, and while the manga showed Kacchan’s pained, guilt-ridden face to All Might here, now the anime shows Deku’s astonished reaction to his line too. :’) Mmm, that moment of rare yet honest humility from Kacchan. Savor it, for the truth of how he feels.
Tumblr media
Double oof and BAWWWW!! Animated Dad Might’s reassuring and comforting hug!! ;A; That none of what happened to him was Kacchan’s fault to begin with. Along with All Might’s regret that he overlooked how this would affect him, only seeing his strength from the outside, and ending up making him bear that kind of burden alone. (He’s still only just a 15/16yr old kid to be dealing with this! D:), Krgghhh aww man, Kacchan really needed this; he’s practically starved for it. Even if the softness received from his idol’s compassion and a sincere apology still hurts. The reality still stings. Uwah, that dejected slap away from his touch. ;.;
“After being a hero for a long time, I’ve seen that being fixated on victory like you, Young Bakugo, and wanting to save those in trouble like, you, Young Midoriya…If either of those feelings is missing, then a hero won’t be able to carry out the justice he wants to carry out. Like how you, Young Midoriya, admired Young Bakugo’s strength, and how you, Young Bakugo, feared Young Midoriya’s heart…Now that your feelings are out in the open, I think you both understand. If you both recognize each other and can focus on making each other stronger, then you can save people to win and win to save people, becoming the greatest heroes.”
Tumblr media
DESTROY ME RIGHT NOW!!!! ;A; It’s…the iconic LINE! Bonus YES!!!! Animating their slow, softening expressions to become more open as the realization sinks in, just like in the manga’s split panels! ;A; AHHHHH all of my feels! <333 Because it’s just as All Might says: that by supporting and helping each other improve, especially in the specialized areas where the other’s lacking, their combined strengths can become much stronger together than they could only operating alone. Greatest hero duo foreshadowing! 8D
“You…had the strongest guy lay the groundwork for you. Don’t lose.” :’DDD That kind of humble encouragement from Kacchan to Deku, ahhh good.
Tumblr media
Omg, All Might’s extra line, “I should be bowing and begging you to keep this secret. Just how much will I need you to be considerate for my sake…? Sorry, thanks.” !!!! ;.; I don’t remember this line put exactly like this, but it’s just…compared to what All Might’s already had to do, prostrating himself in front of others to keep his word, Kacchan is…well, when things are truly important, he’s probably one of the most honest and faithful guys there is. He keeps true to his word; he can be trusted. :’) “I’m not being considerate. It’s just too big a risk with too many drawbacks to spread this around.” Heh well, taking the smart and logical excuse then. :P And just like Kacchan can be trusted where things matter, All Might deems it worthy at this point to allow him the truth behind everything involving OfA and its history too.
Hoooo, I love how afterwards, when both boys are following All Might, on both sides of the road now, they’re also at the same equal distance back, side by side, without either falling behind. :’))) Ahh small symbolism for what’s changed in their dynamic. “Jeez, damn Deku, why’d you have to go and tell me for?” BECAUSE HE CARES ABOUT YOU, DUMBASS! And didn’t want you to feel like you were being tricked or lied to! ;A; (Yet...Kacchan still felt that way anyway) Agghh well, these hopeless fools. :’) Bonus soft Kacchan. <3
Tumblr media
“But unlike what I’ve been doing until now, Deku– Like how you’ve been watching me and everything around you and absorbing it to get stronger, I’ll also make everything my own to go higher. Higher than even you, the chosen one.” :DD Yuus! Kacchan’s conviction not to cease his own aspirations, but rather to focus even higher than Deku, and now with a greater awareness on how to approach that mutual climb.
“The…then, I’ll go even higher than that! I have to get higher than you!”   “I said, I’m gonna surpass you!” “And I’m saying that I need to go higher than that!” “What?!”
Ahaha, it shifts to their comedic bickering back and forth, as All Might muses how they’ve become more like proper rivals now. :’D Yuus, and now the secret behind All Might and OfA became a secret among the three of them. :’)))
Tumblr media
Even more comedy seeing them both captured in Dadzawa’s tape! XD But what’s also so nice/fun about this is how they react like a pair of equally troublesome kids, both on the same page now. :’3
All Might gives his astute explanation, “Young Bakugo felt responsible for my retirement. He had to face the exam with those pent-up feelings, and in the end, his inferiority complex exploded.” Hmm, exploded quite literally. “It was because I didn’t realize and was negligent in his mental care…It was a fight brought about by the failure of adults…” :’)))) I’m glad All Might is humble and aware enough to realize and admit all of this. Tending for the students’ mental health, especially after a potentially traumatic event, and especially as children with no frame of reference on how to deal with any of this alone, is so important. Even the adult teachers learn how to do things better. It’s also heartwarming to see how All Might takes up the responsibility for causing Kacchan to fail his exam, reasoning Kacchan was too preoccupied with the pent-up feelings over his retirement that he couldn’t properly focus. Trading Kacchan’s responsibility of shouldering the burden, onto his own. Dad Might is so good. <3
Hooo, and yup, Kacchan owns up to what he did and admits he threw the first punch. :’DDD Oho, but Deku won’t run away from what happened either, “I also went in pretty hard.” Ayyy, slowly maturing boys. <3
*end credits break*
AFTER CREDITS SCENE!! Of their house arrest cleaning!!! :’D Oh sweet, Uraraka asks if they’ve made up. :’3 Yes, she supports them getting along too! YESSS then the quiet scene of them vacuuming alone! 8D
Tumblr media
“About my Shoot Style… How was it…?” *long nervous pause, from both their povs* “The motions when you’re preparing to do a move are too big.” *cue soft mellow ost!* “Even when you got faster, I was able to just barely react in time. It’s not good for a slugfest.” “I see...” “When you used it with your punch, it made me mad.” *cue Deku’s honest surprise, and WOBBLY SMILE* ;A;   “I see…!”
HRGGHH yes, their newly soft, tentative, awkward, yet ‘normal’ interactions. :’D As tender as a band-aid freshly removed and the skin left to heal on its own. The awkward dorks are taking wholesome baby steps now. With Kacchan willingly offering Deku encouragement and fighting advice in his own way. ;A; (Heh, Deku’s mixed, overly telegraphed style made him mad when Kacchan actually got caught off-guard.) Boi I cry, especially when the ost finally started up, nurturing that collective awwww moment. They are good and learning boys, and this is just the beginning! :’D
PREVIEW TIME!
…!! :O Yes, it’s Twice!! What was skipped from ch 115 looks to be moved here. (This ep61 adapted content from mid117-mid121.)  *gasp* OH SHIT, Overhaul tease!!! And…!!! *screeching gasp* IT’S HIMMMMMMM!!! ;A; MIRIO!!!
Tumblr media
AHHHHH <33333 Although my hype was off the charts to finally view this ep in its entirety, ahh omg I have plenty of more hype in store to finally see HIM animated as well! X’3 Oooh, this shall be good, with the Big Three tease too!

Author’s Note: Originally posted to ao3 (This is an edited and improved version), I work in info from the comics (Like Hawkeye was married to Mockingbird and Red Skull had a disappointing daughter) and I took a few liberties with what the scepter could do (but not really because the Mind Stone was used to create the Twins so what I did is not that far-fetched). This is a lot more angst than I realized when I wrote it, but it’s compelling angst.
Summary: Cassandra Campbell is a Stark Industries lab tech with dubious genetics and a history with the new Director of SHIELD. Cassie woke up in a bed in a medical room, Steve sitting beside her. She looked away from him, focusing on the beeping machine to her right. "You must think I'm crazy," she whispered.
Steve leaned forward. "No. Sad, lonely, but not crazy."
She still didn't turn to him, it was easier to talk this way. "That baby, the first one, Faye, she was everything I ever wanted. She was the culmination of all the goals I set for myself while I was in the Fridge. Get out, get a job, get married, have a baby. My grand plan. Nothing ever goes to plan." She shifted and stared at the ceiling above her, instead.
"I was trying to figure out a way to tell him when Phil got back from his mission. He started telling me all about this mission and this woman, this Audrey, and every time he talked about her his eyes would sparkle. I knew, knew he’d fallen for her. But Phil, he would never admit it. He doesn't break hearts.” She shook her head. “I made the decision that day. I hid the test, never told him. I wrote him a letter, gave him an out. If he had called me, if he had tried, I would've come back... but he was happy to be done with us. Audrey was better for him, anyway. He stopped loving me, and then Fury messed with his memories. He barely remembers me."
"He was here for two days, in this chair, until a young woman named Skye came to remind him he had an agency to run."
"Because he wanted answers, not because he feels anything for me. Or maybe he feels guilty. Either way..."
"I don't think it's that simple. But I know that you need to talk to him."
"He barely remembers me. I mean, the only difference is that he knows about Faye now."
"Well, he's still in the facility, if you change your mind." Steve stood, patting her hand. "I'm glad you're okay, Miss Campbell. I'll let the others know you're awake."
As he walked out, she knew she'd lost him. This whole event had revealed too much of her, too soon, and now the Captain didn't want her. She couldn't even think about talking to Barton, and talking to Phil was going to give her a stroke. She wondered if she was still at Playground Base. She grabbed the corner of the hospital blanket and pulled it off of her. She looked down, in disdain, at the hospital gown they'd put her in. She shook her head as she gripped the I.V. and gently took it out of her arm. She reached over and unplugged the beeping machine before pulling off the sticky pads monitoring her heart rate.
Cassie ran the odds in her head. Phil seemed to only have a handful of agents with him, five or six by her count as Joanna, add that to the number of Avengers. *It's a big facility* she thought as she looked both ways down a long hallway. *I might be able to make it out without anyone noticing... in a hospital dress, in the mountains in Europe. Just to avoid drama? Am I really going to do this?*
She settled on 'yes' as she imagined dealing with Steve and Barton as an Avenger. She couldn't go back to New York. She probably couldn't go back to America, at all, for a while. She moved through the halls, her inner map leading her to the exit. She found a biometric panel on the wall near the door and she started to try to open the program to hack it, when the stoic Asian woman stepped out of the shadows to her right.
"Where, exactly, do you think you're going?"
"I don't know. Just... somewhere else," Cassie admitted.
"So eager to leave that you couldn't find clothes first? Most parts of this range are below 0°C. Think you can survive those temperatures in that outfit?"
"Steve survived being a popsicle. Similar genetic enhancement. I could survive the Alps in... basically nothing."
"Are you running from the questions, or the blame?"
"All of the above. This whole event has blown my life to pieces. I can't go back to work at Stark Tower, I can't join up with SHIELD." She shook her head, not even wanting to think about the state of her love life. "Any chance I had at 'happy' or even 'okay' got nuked by Loki and... Joanna. If I were less of a coward, I'd just off myself to make sure my other side couldn't ever do damage like this again. Unfortunately, I'm not even sure I'd even know how to kill myself. So, I'm running. It worked for Banner for a few years. That should be enough time to clear my head."
"If I let you leave, how would you make sure that Loki wouldn't get his claws into you again? He made it out after Barton grabbed you."
"I'll go somewhere dark and secluded. He won't be able to find me if he doesn't have any landmarks to locate... while he's spying on me." She sniffed, trying to hold back tears. "I can't deal here, Agent May. Someone like you should understand the importance of dealing with shit in... in seclusion."
"You know who I am?"
"Of course, I do. You were Phil’s partner. And I know I'm not getting out of here unless you let me. Please. I can't be here."
Melinda May looked at her for a moment before pressing her hand to the biometric lock. "Don't die. Phil would never forgive me."
Cassie nodded and bowed her head to the agent as she passed and went out the door. "Thank you, Agent May," she whispered.
******************
The cold hadn't bitten her as much as she thought it would. Her fingers had gone numb pretty quickly, but as she continued moving through the mountain range, barefoot and mostly nude, she saw no signs of hypothermia in herself. In fact, the only time her body temperature changed, at all, was when she stopped moving, and then it only dipped a few degrees until she started moving again. As much as she despised Loki, she supposed that she would have died, if she hadn't been modified.
There were several times that she had to drop to the snow and hide from the Quinjets looking for her, but even then, covered in a blanket of snow, she didn't lose enough body heat to matter. She didn't know how many days she was travelling through the mountains, but she was starving by the time she found the road. She knew better than to travel on the road, but she kept it in sight as she continued down whatever mountain she was on now.
When she made it down the mountain, she found a small village. All the signage was in German, which she barely spoke and definitely didn't read. She grabbed a pair of sweats and a jumper off a line in the backyard of a small cottage and finally got rid of the hospital gown, before heading toward a small restaurant. She was greeted by a small blond woman whose crows feet seemed just at home on her face.
"Hallo. Spechen sie English?"
"Ja. Ein bisschen. A little. American?" she asked.
"Yeah. I... something happened. I don't have my passport. No money. I was left in the mountains... to die,” she lied. “I am so hungry. Can I work to get food?" She spoke slow and purposefully, fully enunciating every syllable.
"I ask," the woman said before walking into the kitchen. She walked back out with a smile. "You wash. You get 3€ an hour."
Cassie smiled, gratefully. "Thank you so much."
**************************
Cassie worked under the table. She started as a dishwasher, where they didn't have to communicate much with her. She slept at a church, where they had an English-speaking priest and didn't ask too many questions. They provided her a cot and a few donated outfits. A jacket that she didn't need, but was oh, so comfortable. She learned she'd climbed down in Austria. As she learned more German, she was put in the kitchen, where she was given a raise to 6€ an hour.
She had a simple life, and it wasn't easy, but somehow she'd found something close to happiness. No worries of the Avengers tracking her down, they'd have found her already if they were really looking. She was sure that SHIELD was too depleted to spend their time looking for her. The only thing she worried about incessantly was Loki.
Cassie woke up in the church. She rolled off the cot and folded her blanket, placing it gingerly at the end. She bent over and gave praise to God for allowing her to wake up as herself for one more day. She dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and pulled a plain black jumper over her head. Dark blue jeans and black leather boots rounded out her outfit. She exited her closet room, and greeted the priest with a smile.
"Guten Morgen, Vater. How was your night?"
"About so well as yours, Alex. I heard your crying, again," he responded, softly. They were the only two in the room, but he was quiet about it, like he was trying to soften the impact.
She'd chosen to call herself 'Alexandra Tristitia' because it was far from alliterative and nothing close to the name Loki wanted her to have. "I'm sorry I kept you from your sleep, Father. I'll try to keep it down," she said, sitting in front of a bowl of porridge and silently thanking God for it.
"That's not why I say it, Alex. You know, I do never ask. I promised not asking. But... you hold sadness. I can help to hold it with you."
She smiled, politely at the middle-aged German man. It was becoming more frequent that Father Nathan asked her to confide in him. She couldn't blow him off completely, but he usually backed off after she politely declined talking about it. "God helps me hold it, Father. I can't bring you into it, as well."
"I want to help you, Alex. Please, allow me to help." The priest sat next to her at the little wooden table and put a hand on her upper thigh.
Cassie looked down at his hand. She could count the number of times the priest had touched her on one hand. In the two months since she came into the church seeking refuge, he had never touched her anywhere but her forehead and her arms. This contact was sudden, and more than a little uncomfortable. She shook the discomfort away, as the man had been nothing but polite and proper with her. She took a mouthful of porridge and swallowed it down, eagerly, before standing and bowing her head at the priest. "I have to head to work, Father. Thank you for the breakfast. I will... think about sharing my burden with you."
The priest nodded and grabbed his own bowl.
Cassie shrugged it off and headed off to the restaurant.
********************
As Cassie was grilling up some peppers and onions next to a couple bratwursts, she heard the door open. She'd gotten into the habit of looking to see the size of groups to see how much of an order was about to come through to her. Her heart stopped, then began again at a hammering pace, before slowing to a crawl. Clint Barton was being sat at a table near the door. He was dressed in civvies, but her eyes fell on several places where weapons were hidden. She ducked out of view and took a deep breath. *Kitchen door, back door, church, Vienna.* she thought, taking her apron off.
She quickly opened the kitchen door as Helga took Barton's order (in perfect German) and dashed out the back door, running through the alleys the half mile to the church. She ran in and made her way straight to her closet room. Father Nathan walked in as she was dumping all of her clothes into a backpack. She grabbed a jar with a handful of bills and several coins and shoved it on top of the clothes, before zipping up the bag. She turned to the priest and gave a weak smile.
"You are leaving?" he asked, closing the door behind him.
She sighed and nodded, trying to keep the urgency out of her voice. "It's time, Father. I want to thank you for all your help."
He stepped toward her. "I hope I haven't done anything to offend you, Alexandra."
She shook her head. She couldn't explain why she had to leave to the man, but she wanted him to know it wasn't him. "No. Not at all, Father. It's... it's a continuation of what brought me here. I just... have to move on and it has to be now," she said, pulling the backpack on over her jacket and smiling at him.
"You can't leave yet," he said, stepping right in front of her. "You haven't repaid my kindness."
"What are you-" she started, but he pushed her backwards onto the cot. Her arms got tangled in the bag as the priest came down on top of her. He grabbed the waistband of her jeans and pulled them down, violently. Cassie kicked her booted feet at him. "Stop! No!"
The priest's fingers found their way between her legs and began to rub vigorously at her clit. He pulled her pants to her ankles and positioned himself between her knees, his mouth immediately attacking her bundle of nerves with quick flicks of his tongue. "This is not okay!" she shouted, squirming against his suddenly invading fingers.
"A woman like you... you will like it. I promise," he said, before straightening and undoing his black slacks.
Cassie took that opportunity to kick him in the chest, with about a third of her considerable strength. He didn't move at all from the force. Instead, he grabbed her legs and pushed them up into her chest. He entered her quickly, using his weight to keep her arms pressed under her back and her legs pushing into her chest. He weighed more than she thought he should.
She closed her eyes, shutting down the thought processes that led down the roads of self-pity and shock. She chose the thought process of preservation, remembering the SHIELD agent at the restaurant, knowing she had to be gone before Clint found the church. She sat herself up just a few centimetres using her core, then pushed hard against her bag's straps. As they ripped, she pushed her legs against the man of God with all of her super strength. This time, with her holding nothing back, he flew backward.
Cassie jumped up, pulling her jeans to her waist and grabbing her backpack by a broken strap. As she ran out past the man who'd been so nice to her, she genuflected with her free hand. "God save you."
She made it out of the church and about five feet before Clint jumped down from a ledge on the building next to her. She let out an exasperated breath. She closed her eyes and dropped her bag, putting her hands up.
"I know you don't want to talk, Cassie. Solitude to deal with shit, I get it. There's a farm back home that I go to when I have to deal with... the shit of being Ops. You have to come back, though. We've got reports of Loki heading this way. It's the only way we pinpointed your location in Austria. He's coming for you," Clint said, taking a step toward her. "Now, he lost his sceptre back at Playground and now, Hydra's got it. He can't... turn you back, but he could do other things. We don't know the extent of what Loki can do."
She looked from Clint to the church, thinking of the uncharacteristically violent priest inside. "Shit!" she said, bending over to grab her backpack.
"What?"
"He got here first," she replied, running for the main street. "Tell me you have extraction."
He was keeping pace with her, but she could tell he was pushing his limits. He pointed to the edge of town. "Right off the main, outside the city, there's a jet. Come on."
As soon as she got on the jet, she dropped her bag and got in a jump seat. She felt wet drops hit her hand but she ignored them. She couldn't acknowledge the tears, or she wouldn't be able to stop. "How do I know that this isn't another of his illusions?"
"Because Loki wouldn't let you be saved by us." Natasha's voice came from the cockpit.
Cassie nodded. That made sense. He had been offended by them trying to 'save' her, before.
She pulled out a raggy t-shirt from her bag and wiped her entire face, as though she'd worked up a sweat. Her face didn't remain dry for long. She was crying a lot more than she originally thought. "So... I know the Fridge was blown up last year, are you taking me to Playground? I know there are cells there." Her voice was even, reserved. Had she not known she was crying, her voice would never betray it.
"You think we risked our asses to get you away from Loki, just so that you can rot in a cell?" Clint asked. She looked over at him, surprise written on her tear-drenched face.
"Tony, we've picked up the Red Queen. We are on the return," Natasha said into her headset.
"Red Queen?"
"Any complaints on that need to be directed to Banner. He coined the name," Clint said, reaching into a compartment beside him and tossing her a blanket. "Get some sleep. We've got a long trip."

COMIC TEA PARTY- WEEK LONG BOOK CLUB START!
Hello and welcome everyone to Comic Tea Party’s Week Long Book Club~! This week we’ll be focusing on Hexameron by Mikhail Shmidt & Eugenia Shmidt~! (https://tapas.io/series/Hexameron)
You are free to read and comment about the comic all week at your own pace, so stop on by whenever it suits your schedule! Remember, though, that while we allow constructive criticism, our focus is to have fun and appreciate the comic. Below you will find four questions to get you started on the discussion. However, a new question will be posted and pinned everyday (between 12:01AM and 6AM PDT), so keep checking back for more! You have until April 28th to tell us all your wonderful thoughts! With that established, let’s get going on the reading and the chatting!
QUESTION 1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it?
QUESTION 2. Who or what do you think the “Eldritch Horror” was at the beginning of the story? Why do you think they gave the cube to Gil? What will happen when Gil completes the tasks given to him?
Kelheor
Hello, I'm Eugenia aka Kelheor, the artist for Hexameron, and we are here to answer all the possible questions
Delphina
Just gave it a read! I really admire how quick the pacing is between each story, it's really tight!
My favorite scenes are a tie between the scene with Summer building the strange mound thing (https://tapas.io/episode/1125654) and the kids summoning the Ladies in Black (https://tapas.io/episode/1273540). I really love when the artist gives a big roomy panel to let us soak in all the creepy details and really feel the atmosphere.
(I'm just taking everything at face value right now and assuming that's a legit Eldrich Horror coming to steal childrens' soul or open a dark dimension for other creatures to come out.)
Darkstrong
Hi, the writer of this whole thing speaking. The pacing is actually, a result of a limitation that we put on ourselves - four pages per story. Glad to hear that you like it. As for Eldritch guest, his motivation, if you even can call it a motivation, is not as simple. Or maybe much more simple, would more accurate. But that is something that will be addressed much further into the story.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 3. At the moment, who is your favorite character? What about that character earns them this favor?
QUESTION 4. Why do you think Gil and friends are being specifically targeted by the horrors? Is it because they’re actively seeking them out, or is something else going on? Alternatively, are they just unlucky?
RebelVampire
1) the scene i like the most is when summer is hugging the creepy rock and smiling. legit i think the crying in that scene sells it causes its pretty clear she subconsciously doesnt want to be there. and yet here she is being forced to hug the rock, so it really hits home what an awful death that would be if she hadnt been saved. 2) part of me wants to just assume ya know, eldritch stuff. probably trying to summon something terrible and was too lazy to get all the items themselves. thus, recruit gil cause why not. makes things easier. but on the otherhand, a part of me wants to assume the twist is it was james all along. cause its pretty convenient he had to leave camp right before the horrors suddenly started being real. going on the idea its not real though, i assume gil is gonna die anyway. like i feel like theres this ominous safety net the story is creating where nothing perma bad happens to anyone besides emotional scares. and i think that means the rug is gonna be pulled out from under us at some point.
3) Eugene cause Eugene is the only one i feel like has a good head on his shoulders. Handles things logically, is decently cautious. Therefore I'm picking him cause he seems the only one not being a dumb kid who says "whats the worst that could happen?" 4) I do think their targetting is just the fact that they're the ones seeking them out. That plus the fact that they are more open to the belief. Cause I think its partly their own half-hearted beliefs in the stories that make them more suseptible to the supernatural around them. Which is pretty common in stories where the supernatural can only affect people who actually believe in it. This would also explain why the horrors seem to be getting worse and more directly deadly; the more the kids investigate, the more belief they have in the things around them.
Delphina
Yeah, I also like Eugene. I think some of the other characters' personalities blend together, but he really stands out for me and has smart ideas like on the stairway to logically get out of bad situation.
Pavla is also fun, I'm looking forward to seeing more of her because she does NOT seem to be interested in ghosts and will gladly punch them in the face.
RebelVampire
yeah. pavla is a lot of the reason why i answer 4 the way i did cause that girl gives absolutely no damns about ghosts. and i can respect just punching your way out of a supernatural situation XD
Delphina
I definitely agree that their meddling is just making things worse, because they're sneaking out to forbidden places/doing rituals and getting the attention of these creatures that possibly would have just left them alone otherwise.
RebelVampire
yeah. especially with the candle ritual. thats legit just asking for it.
Darkstrong
I think I can too answer some questions without going into the spoiler zone. :D My favourite scene so far is definitely the summoning of the Ladies. The scene is dark and menacing, and I like how the design of the Ladies ended up.
My favourite character so far, it is hard to decide since I am writing them all and like all of them, but if I had to choose, I'd probably choose Zoe.
Kelheor
I am actually relieved to know that most people like Eugene that much, and not only because his t-shirts =) Except Zoe, he is not just the only character who doesn't care about supernatural things, put openly don't like a lot to be a part of these crazy events. When we were making that part in The Message chapter, where he is hurt and just wants to go back, I was afraid that people just won't understand the way he behaves. 1. I totally can choose a summoning of Ladies as my favourite scene too! But I'll probably go with the part where the kids ran away from Heartless Annie. I just wish there were a few more panels of how Summer is picking up the stick to smash her just to add more motion to the scene. 3. It's hard, but I would choose Jaeger, because he's just a small cowardly cricket, but will poke every strange thing with a stick =)(edited)
Delphina
Eugene's t-shirts are definitely great too!
RebelVampire
QUESTION 5. What has been your favorite illustration in the comic so far? What specifically about it do you like?
QUESTION 6. Why do you think so many of James’ stories about the camp are suddenly coming true? What do you think James might have to do with the events so far (if anything)?
RebelVampire
5) my fave illustration so far is actually probably the last panel in the right corner of this page https://tapas.io/episode/1197369 i really love how atmospheric both the ominous shadows and fog make the scene. i also like the shot choice with the characters having their backs to us and it being a bit farther away. i feel like it really expresses a sense of scale and hopelessness. plus, i appreciate any background that takes the time to make nice looking stairs. 6) This is the question where I'm going back to my James is the culprit theory. Cause I still stand by the fact him having to leave camp is extremely convenient for how much he gets mentioned. and as for why hed do it, cause he was tired of everyone mocking his stories. if he makes them real, then he can be mocked no longer. its fool proof.
Delphina
In general, I really love how the forest is rendered in the art, it's always so colorful and gorgeous! https://tapas.io/episode/1126672 https://tapas.io/episode/1305811
I don't think James is the culprit, but maybe he's passing along the information from some other darker force? Hard to say.
Darkstrong
Not to play the Ladies' card twice, I'd say that my favourite illustration is Annie's reaction to being smacked with a stick. The branch tentacles, huge mouth full of teeth, and Summer's paralyzed reaction.
@RebelVampire, I like the whole Stairs to Nowhere story. Sadly, I think we couldn't realize it completely the way I pictured it. It is really good hearing that someone finds it so expressive :)(edited)
RebelVampire
QUESTION 7. Which characters do you enjoy seeing interact the most? What about their dynamic interests you?
QUESTION 8. Of the creepy events presented so far, which one did you find the scariest? What about it made it so spooky for you?
RebelVampire
QUESTION 9. What sorts of art or story details have you noticed in the way the comic is crafted that you think deserves attention?
QUESTION 10. Why do you think the camp itself seems to have attracted so many supernatural events and tragic happenings? Are the original stories somewhat true, or are they coincidental? How does this change your thinking on scary stories you know?
RebelVampire
7) probably Gil and Summer just cause I think they're kind of at an adorable age together. Like old enough to think they know what theyre doing and know how to be adult, but young enough to legit have no clue. so to me their interactions have sort of a nostalgia of youth to them that make me remember what it was like to be a kid and always trying to act cool around other kids. 8) definitely the stone hugging one. Some of the others felt super avoidable if you played it smart or ya know, didnt do an ominous ritual. but the stone one? only luck saved their asses. and the idea of having to do something beyond your own free will creeps me out. and that panel of summer crying at her fate really gets to me. and just in general, it was the one event i felt they were in legit danger from of not their own accord. 9) the clothes. i really enjoy that they actually ya know, change clothes in the various scearios. like its so easy to get away with not changing a character's clothes, but this comic takes the time to do as such. and thats something i can respect and appreciate. plus, eugene gets the best shirts. 10) i assume the original stories are somewhat true. maybe not as supernatural-y or evil as what actually happened, but some basis. like the idea the one shack house place exists cause they were gonna expand the camp at some point. as to why the camp attracts the supernatural, idk. maybe its on a leyline, cause that usually is the plausible supernatural explanation. or its james' fault
Delphina
Regarding how the story is crafted, I think each section being intentionally 4 pages per story is an interesting writing decision and not one I usually see in webcomics (the default is to sprawl endlessly). It makes for a very fast-paced story and I definitely like that. I do find myself wishing there were more character moments so I can really connect with the characters who have more subtle personalities, since there are so many people to keep track of. But it's really cool to see how much the team is able to convey within a limited number of pages and being smart about how much time you spend on what.
I definitely agree that the one with the stone has a huge creep factor because they weren't actually poking their noses into something they shouldn't have been and it still got to Summer. (Also I feel bad that he had to knock his friend out to get her to stop, like damn, imagine having to render your buddy unconscious)
And yah, I think there's just spooky things in the wilderness a la Gravity Falls, and it was all fine and isolated until someone got the bright idea to build a camp there.
RebelVampire
this is a gravity falls sequel where the shack house they went to was actually the mystery shack and this is gravity falls after the town was abandoned.
i at least appreciate the humor where gil feigned ignorance to how she passed out XD some much needed comedy relief
Darkstrong
@RebelVampire, Gravity Falls actually had some influence on Hexameron's conception, at least on very early stages. It was much more of a comedy then. But it couldn't have been the shack, as everything is happening on the other coast of North America, and not even in USA.
Darkstrong
@Joichi, good to hear that :) Hope to hear some of your thoughts on the comic, too
Kelheor
5. My favourite illustration is laughing trio on the second page of Heatless https://m.tapas.io/episode/1161232 I think just because plot is so tight, we don't see much actual conversation and bonding between the kids, so I really appreciate this small touch of them just being without a care in the world. @RebelVampire and I especially thank you for noticing these stairs because god knows I was suffering drawing them :D @Delphina oh thank you! I'll tell you a secret, in the beginning I didn't know how to draw forest at all, just as the rest of background it was the first time I tried to draw any background whatsoever. It may sound strange, but I am still always forgetting what kind of forest are they running in.
Kelheor
7. Oh, it must be Peggy and Eugene? I actually don't know what will become of them later, but they make an awesome duo right now. Outside they are just so different, but then they do both enjoy some bad humour. 8. Definitely the Black Ladies episode! It's just a nightmare coming true. People are hating on Zoe in this episode, but come on, how frightened should she be!
Kelheor
@RebelVampire I actually wanted to make them a few more changes of clothes, but there are just so many stories to show them! Also I thought since they are kids in the camp, most of them won't actually care to wear the same clothes over and over. And we still have a few ideas for Eugene's shirts...
RebelVampire
QUESTION 11. What do you think are this particular comic’s strengths? What do you think makes this comic unique? Please elaborate.
QUESTION 12. Do you think any of the characters will die consider how dangerous things have gotten? If so, who? Also, do you feel Gil really is in danger from the Eldritch Horror given they told Gil he had six days or his life was forfeit?
Delphina
I think the character designs are very strong and the pacing is very unique. I love how expressive the characters get and they're just cute kids to look at (even when horrible things are happening to them)!
Ooooh, who's gonna die? Really anybody, but stab-in-the-dark guess, I'll say Jaeger because he seems the wimpiest and Zoe because she seems like the most gentle. Maybe Pavla too, but not without a fight.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 13. What are you most looking forward to in the comic? Also, do you have any final thoughts to share overall?
QUESTION 14. Overall, how do you think the supernatural experiences will affect the characters? Which character are you most looking forward to seeing changed by the experience and why?
RebelVampire
11) i think the comic's strengths lie in its use of setting. i think theres a real sense of nostalgia about camps and how all the spooky stuff happens at them. and i think this nostalgia really pulls you into the comic. not to mention the setting is beautifully illustrated and feels exactly like a camp too, selling the experience. 12) well i already proposed Gil and im still sticking with that. Gil is just treating the Eldritch Horror thing way too casually. i also second the vote for Zoe if anyone dies. she seems the most...cowardly of the group to put it mildly. and incapable of following instructions well. and that seems like itll come to bite her in the butt more and more 13) im looking forward to the eldritch horror's return cause i feel like thats when some serious stuff is really gonna start going down and will get some answers along with more questions. but overally i think its gonna be a surprising and worthwhile experience. 14) Assuming no one dies, heres definitely gonna be some deep emotional scars at the end of the experiences. Especially I think for Zoe. Zoe is gonna be the one most likely in need of therapy if she lives through everything. The character I'm most looking forward to see change is Jaeger I think cause these experiences are really gonna shape him. and they could either go positively and make him braver or they could go badly and hell become a shut in who just plays mmos all day.

Stop Whining. Start Winning. Swiftly Navigating the New AdWords UI
The new AdWords interface is here, and everyone has an opinion about the new layout. This blog is not an opinion piece. You won’t find me crying into my pillow about the AdWords interface updating by the end of 2018, scrapping our old AdWords dashboard navigation for good.
This blog will teach you the more technical side of actually navigating the interface, for those of us who have been slamming the “Return to previous AdWords” button shamelessly for months. You’ll also learn features that Google has built into the new interface that will make your life easier and help you to save time, and the bottom of this post includes a cheat sheet, highlighting those fresh features available in the new interface by the type of marketer you are and the type of feature offered exclusively in the new experience.
If you’re an “old timer” like me, you may find the new layout difficult to navigate technically. I first encountered the AdWords interface in 2007 when it looked like this and started using the AdWords UI in earnest at my first PPC job in 2012. And here I am, sitting in trainings with the new kids at Hanapin Marketing and they reel back when I open up the old UI. “Wait, what is this dashboard? I’ve never seen this before…” Get with the picture, granny.
Let’s cut through the strategy and get right to the heart of what’s in the interface, how you can use it more efficiently right now. Like, right this moment.
1. Problem: Everything moves too slowly, and the flip-out menus are driving me nuts.
Solution: There are shortcuts, so please use them! You can show or hide the navigation panel with a quick stroke of Shift+W. Blow it away to focus on the task at hand. This feature is especially useful when using a narrow screen.
You can find the shortcuts by pushing the ? button while in the new interface. Here is a list:
You can also click the “Expand table” button.
Here’s a gif of the little button in action. I could swear I heard angles sing the first time I clicked it:
The “Show less space” row narrowing button right next to the “Expand table” button allows you to see more rows without scrolling as well.
2. Problem: The filters and column selections are all in different places. I’m not used to weeding through my choices in this layout.
Solution: We’ve all been clicking the cute little filter icon and the striped column icon to break down our data properly. But once it’s clicked, you have to hunt and peck for exactly what you want. Well, actually you don’t. Do you know that you can type your desired filters now in the filter bar? Stop scrolling through filters trying to find the perfect one. Say you want to filter by campaign name. Just type in what you’re looking for and it Google will auto fill your choices:
As a bonus, Google remembers the filters you used recently so you can pull them up again. They’re shown just above the auto-fill options when you’re typing.
You can similarly type a search for columns, but this system is much more clunky. The search bar re-sets every time you select a new column choice. I’d recommend using the “Save your column set” feature more than ever in the new interface, to avoid ripping your hair out in frustration.
  3. Problem: They took away the dimensions in the new UI.
Solution: Yes, they did. But dimensions came back! They’re now called “Predefined Reports” and be found under reporting.
  4. Problem: Selecting dates in the new UI is awkward.
Solution: Flip between dates easily with the backward and forward buttons. For example, looking at the last 30 days:
Click the backward button and you can thread back in time.
Admittedly, I continue to find the date comparison selection tool a bit janky, especially when I’m trying to compare to the previous period and the interface doesn’t want to compare to an entire previous month. At times, typing dates can be easier than playing with the little blue and yellow highlighter in the calendar, which I’ve been wont to do until I simply give up and just type the dates into the custom date view.
  Bonus! Cheat Sheets:
This is the big daddy blog post about the new AdWords experience – what’s leaving, what’s staying, and exclusive features.
And here’s a timeline of changes, month by month, provided by Google support.
If you ever feel unsure about new features, these pages are a great place to start. Bookmark these pages and refer back to them when you can’t find something. It will be your translation key in the coming months before October hits.
Changes that may put a hitch in your giddy up:
Most automated rules will easily pass over from one interface to the other, but there are some exceptions you may want to check – notably, if you have a rule that is dependent on a retired AdWords column – listed here – you’ll want to update accordingly.
I recall my old peers drilling into me the wisdom of using “Target and Bid” when choosing display audiences, to ensure only the selected audience is targeted. This terminology has now been retired and the new settings are called:
“Target and Bid” = Targeting
“Bid Only” = Observations
Ad Extensions now have a fresh associations view that may confuse the seasoned PPC marketer, since the view is more designed to look at performance of the same extension across multiple associations. One can change the associations by ticking the boxes and clicking Add or Edit. But you can schedule extensions now – nifty! You can also get a quick rundown in a pop-up menu from Google stating, “This extension is associated with the account, 6 campaigns, and 17 ad groups.” It’s a nice summary for auditing extensions. Also the sitelink URL shows in the pop-up menu as well, eliminating the need to click in to every single extension to check destinations!
Can’t-Miss ad features for e-commerce and retail marketers:
Promotion Extensions integrate promotion dates, occasions (select holidays), promo codes, and more into your ads – and you can schedule them in advance.
Showcase ads for those of us with the recommended 1,000+ products in our feed. This ad type allows a variety of products to be shown in a storefront format.
Household Income targeting has been available for a while now in the new UI.
Import in-store sales into the interface for additional reporting clout if you have physical store locations.
Bid changes for call-focused marketers:
Call bid adjustments (for call only campaigns and call extensions) are now available in the menu under Advanced bid adj. – I’m excited to see if and when this feature is extended beyond call bidding!
New reports and targeting for all marketers:
In general, reporting download options in the new UI is rad. You can compress the file, select whether or not you want title and date range or summary rows. It’ll make your job easier when you’re crunching numbers and pivoting in Excel.
We’ve all heard about the new opportunities and recommendations tab, the at-a-glance reporting, and n-grams. These features are at the top right and featured front and center when you log in to your account.
The ad version history report can be accessed on an ad-by-ad basis. Marketers can now see the ad performance for previous versions of an ad in the new interface.
Landing page performance reports where you can test mobile friendliness and see which landing pages drive the most sales.
The Audience page and display network campaigns have been updated so you can get a top level insights and a view of which audiences are showing across all campaigns, or those you filter. And speaking of audiences, you can now target In-Market Audiences on search!
Drafts and Experiments got a facelift. Notice that you can split test bits and pieces of your ad copy now, using Ad Variations.
New optional settings for all marketers:
The Global Insight Tag will track all things seamlessly across multiple Google products. But never fear! If you are using the AdWords tag it will not be retired in October. If have a preexisting global site tag on all pages of your website, you can configure your existing tag to send data to multiple AdWords or Google Analytics accounts, which is pretty sweet.
For those of us looking to get into video:
Outstream Ads show beyond YouTube – Video ads are now available to show on the Google Display Network. Note that these placements beyond YouTube are focused on users scrolling on their mobile and tablet devices only.
Trueview for Action Campaigns – a new campaign format
The new user interface has had a rough start, but I’m actually starting to like it, thanks to some of these shortcuts and navigation tricks. Be sure to print out the shortcut menu and slap it on your wall. And remember what Alan Watts said:
“No one is more dangerously insane than one who is sane all the time: he is like a steel bridge without flexibility, and the order of his life is rigid and brittle.” – Alan Watts
So create a little space, give yourself a lot of time to learn, and have fun with the new AdWords interface. Make lots of fits and starts, and eventually you’ll get into the groove of things. And thanks to Google, the new UI is improving every day. If you see something that keeps tripping you up, be sure to Tweet at Google support or submit feedback through the “?” icon next to the bell in your AdWords account, so the Google team can continue to improve the new interface.

HYPNOTISED: A Jason Todd/Red Hood x OC Fan Fic
Summary: Snippets of a blossoming romance between Jason Tood/Red Hood and an original character (named Ima), with other DC characters in supporting roles. Jason falls for a waitress at a diner he frequents with his best friend, Roy Harper. When she is caught in the crossfire between him and Black Mask, he is determined to protect her at all costs. What he does not expect is her falling for him, too. And how much she becomes a part of his - and the Batfamily’s - life.
** Not strictly canon. Romance + fluff + minor angst. A lot of Batfamily feels. Title from the Coldplay song. Currently 8 chapters long, each one to be posted separately due to length. Editing may occur, depending on inspiration. :) **
Chapters: One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight
Eight
“It’ll just be a few days,” Jason said, rubbing Ima’s shoulders, “I promise.” He promised? Good luck keeping that, Jason. If he thought that three days had been enough to let her adjust to the idea of her moving to the manor, he was wrong. She continued to be sullen, and all he wanted to do at that moment was to pacify her. He had told her (at length) about what to expect from his adoptive family, that in spite of their “quirks”, they were the best company. “They’ll adore you,” he said cheerily, wiping away a single tear that betrayed her deeper feelings.
It was almost nine o’clock in the evening. She and Roy had shared a long goodbye hug an hour earlier, and he promised to visit her at the manor every chance he got, before speeding off to respond to an ongoing robbery. Her bags sat neatly by the doorway. He had arranged for Dick to pick her up; his adoptive brother had access to the Batmobile and was only glad to do it.
She avoided his gaze, staring blankly at the door. “Hey, hey,” he said, lifting her chin up so she could face him, “You’ll have everything you’ll need. Plus, your cooking can give Alfred a run for his money. So, no more crying, okay? I’d bring you there myself, but remember Sully? The bartender from Wilson’s at the Narrows? Well, he tipped me off -”
Deep brown eyes stared back at him, searching his, stopping all thought. “How about you, Jason?” He could have melted right there and then. “Who’s going to make you waffles in the morning? Wait up for you on patrol nights?” This was what she had been worried about? “Make sure you come home in one piece?” Home. He loved the sound of it coming from her lips.
“Uh, Roy?” he said, earning him a slap on the arm and a giggle he had been craving for three days. He pressed his forehead against hers. “I’ll come by. Okay?” And that was all she could hope for, knowing his standing with his family.
Feeling brazen all of a sudden, she tiptoed, laying her hands on his strong chest, angling her mouth to his - Beep. Beep. “I’m s-sorry, I need to get this,” he huffed, scooping his phone out of his pocket. She bit her lip, a little embarrassed, but also excited at the thought of what could have happened. What was she doing? “He’s outside.” His words and the sound of him grabbing her bags brought her out of her thoughts.
Once Jason buckled her safely onto the passenger seat of the Batmobile, she was able to get a better look at the driver. He was not the charming twenty-something-year-old man with wavy hair in black and blue tights that Jason originally described to her, but a… ten-year-old? She noted the red and yellow uniform with the signature “R” logo on the left breast. Robin?
“Damian?” Jason said, pushing his head further into the car through the window. “Hey, buddy!” He chuckled, attempting to ruffle his younger brother’s hair. This was swiftly deflected by the latter, a scowl forming below the green domino mask.
“I’m thirteen, Todd. Stop treating me like a child. And, stop acting like one. Tt.” Ima found their exchange adorable.
“The old Bat finally let you take his sweet ride for a spin, huh?” Jason said, observing the interior, silently impressed with all the improvements since he last sat there. “Where’s -”
“Grayson has emergency business in Blüdhaven. And, Drake would only get to drive this before me over my dead body.”
“He can probably have that arranged.”
“Tt.”
Jason laughed out loud. He missed this.
“If you want to make sure she’s alright, you better see her there yourself, Todd. Don’t expect us to babysit her while you try get yourself killed again with your idiocy.” A beat. “The manor is literally fifteen minutes away.”
Like father, like son. If that was Damian’s way of letting him know he was missed in return, then he would take it.
“I missed you too, buddy.” With that, Jason gave Ima one last reassuring smile as the window slowly closed between them. She watched as he walked away from the car, helmet in hand. Please stay safe.
“So, you must be Todd’s girlfriend.”
This was going to be a long trip.
Wayne Manor. She was in freaking Wayne Manor. Taken there in the Batmobile. By no less than Robin. She had heard of the place, of course. Who had not? It was as much a part of Gotham’s landscape as… crime was. But, to breathe the air within its premises, to step on the manicured lawn firsthand -
“Close your mouth. Fireflies might get in,” Damian said, smirking. He had been silent for most of the trip, with the occasional “Tt” when they encountered a stray cat, muttering something about how they should be in shelters. He was a surprisingly smooth driver for his age. Did he even have a license?
He was probably side-eyeing her. As awkward as it had been, she was too preoccupied by his earlier question - rather, statement - about her being Jason’s girlfriend. What was she to him? Neither of them ever brought it up while she was staying at the safe house. When he looked at her, she was almost certain that he saw her as more than a friend. They had held hands in moments of vulnerability, but never kissed. It was not like it never crossed her mind…
“I-I’m sorry,” Ima replied, sheepishly. “It’s just that this is… incredible.”
Damian scoffed. She still could not see his eyes behind the mask, but she could feel him observing her through his peripheral vision. They were standing on the dimly lit driveway, waiting for Alfred to open the majestic double doors. Jason had told her about a more traditional entryway for the Batmobile (something about a waterfall), but she did not mind this one; the alternative sounded nauseating.
Light shone on the ground, indicating that the doors were finally open. A bald-headed sixty-something-year-old gentleman wearing a vested suit with a tail stood at the entrance.
“Pennyworth,” the young master said with his chin up, walking past Alfred into the manor.
“Master Damian,” the bald-headed butler replied with a British accent, unperturbed by the rudeness. His eyes then fell on her as she struggled to get her heavy luggage onto the first step.
“Leave it be, young miss. I’ll handle it.” He lifted the bag with a single hand, without so much as a wince; his age definitely belied his strength. “Forgive Master Damian’s demeanor. He’s quite… special.” Was trained to be an assassin from the age of three. Had a grandfather set on wiping out a third of human population, a mother who tried to kill him, and... well, Batman for a father. She was not offended the least bit. If anything, she wanted to hug him. She understood what it was like to have one’s childhood stripped away.
“I have prepared Master Jason’s room for you, Miss… Ima, is it?” Alfred said. She nodded with a smile. Although his tone was formal, he radiated a fatherly warmth. Or, perhaps, it was just bias from what Jason had told her about him? “He expressly stated that you stay there. He is hoping that it would make you feel more at home.”
She followed him inside and the light from the crystal chandeliers almost blinded her. The receiving area alone deserved a standing ovation for its beauty. The high domed ceiling, covered in what she assumed from her readings were eighteenth century paintings, was reminiscent of the Sistine Chapel. Victorian furniture. Her reflection on the marble flooring. The smell of sandalwood -
Alfred cleared his throat, bringing her out of her internal revelry.
He led her up the stairs and into a hallway lined with medieval artifacts, such as a propped up knight’s suit, and huge portraits of who she assumed to be Wayne ancestors. There was door after door after door, and she wondered why there was so many rooms and what was behind each of them. They turned a corner, revealing the Wayne family crest engraved onto a wooden panel. More portraits lined the walls, but this time, they were photographs, rather than paintings. She easily recognized Damian, even without the mask. The chin up and confident wide-legged stance gave him away. Whoever the others were, they were quite handsome, all clearly very young at the time the photos were taken.
Black hair, blue eyes. Black hair, blue eyes. Black hair - her heart skipped a beat. She knew the grin anywhere. It looked like he was in the middle of genuflecting, surrounded by auburn leaves, picking up a particularly large one he wanted to show to the camera.
“The first day of autumn.” Alfred was standing beside her. “I took that photograph.”
After a warm shower, she started unpacking her things, only to find that she did not know where to put anything. There was just too many storage options for her measly belongings; Jason’s room could fit three of her old home in the Narrows. In the end, she decided to keep them on a chaise lounge near the king-sized bed. She took tattered baby picture of her younger brother out her wallet and set it down on one of the nightstands. “I miss you, Kai.”
She laid down, burying her face into the feather-filled pillows. Hoping that they still smelled of Jason. She then checked her cellphone for the eighth time that night. Where are you? Jason had given her the phone, which had been encrypted in such a way that he could call it without having it traced back to him. This made it impossible for her to call him back. “In case something happened, I don’t want bad guys tracing either of us through each other.” The arrangement kept her on edge, but she understood that it was necessary. She wondered if he did it to keep her from constantly checking in on him, too. Like a girlfriend would. “Stop it, Ima,” she scolded herself at the thought.
Apart from Alfred, no one else seemed to be at home by the time she came down for dinner. It came as no surprise to her, since she was now living with a family of vigilantes who had unconventional night lives. Besides, it was no different from living with Jason and Roy. Except it was lonelier.
She was relieved to find the Brit waiting patiently for her by an open fireplace; otherwise, she would have had no idea how to find the dining room. “Ah, there you are. I thought you had a morbid preference for starvation,” he said stoically, “not unlike some members of this family.”
