Low Quality Godzilla sketch dump incoming
Yeah, so once again I don't have much to share, so I thought I'd try posting some sketchbook drawings. A lot of these are either random memes or very early and rough concepts for what some of the monster designs might look like (if I get around to the character depicted.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ended up trying to edit them on my computer to make things more readable (and to reduce file sizes in the upload, think I ran into issues on my phone). Doesn't look great, and I apologise for that. This type of post is probably gonna be kinda rare as a result.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
im so sorry it took me so long to answer these oml but YES i'd be happy to show how i draw and color :)
— SKETCHING
please note that i almost always sketch traditionally first lol it's just a lot easier for me to determine how the drawing is placed that way, but i always go over and re-sketch it digitally
for magolor i always start with a basic egg shape (lmao) and then i add his ears. then I draw the scarf; it's easy to determine the shape and dynamicism based on where the bottoms of the ears are located
Tumblr media
then i usually add the cape and hood together. where and how these are placed and what these look like in general are very important because they're the main area that perspective is directed to (the ears and everything else is important too ofc!! but the hood and cape usually help demonstrate where he is looking and how he is moving the most). then i add everything else, usually his hands last!
Tumblr media
— LINEART
ohhhhhh god my worst enemy. Hope youre sitting down because this will be embarrassing LMAO
lineart is easily what i struggle with most and is more often than not the most time consuming and grating step for me. If i had a choice i would drop it in a heartbeat, but my style is so dependent on thick lines and shapes that it's difficult to 😭 a hole i dug myself into unfortunately ITS FINE THOUGH. ANYWAYS I'm getting sidetracked
i use my finger to draw all my digital art, which means i usually have to use a Heavy stabilizer to avoid shakiness and staggered lines. Unfortunately ibis paint's stabilizer is actually dog water and doesn't even stabilize more than half the time (in which case i have to repeat lines over. And over. And over again until i get it right) but when it does like me and works properly it's very helpful!
i always use the soft school pen bleed brush as my main tool for lineart. This brush has been my best friend for everything, i even use it for sketching idk it just really like the way it looks lol. sometimes i change the aspect if i want the lines to look more ,, chalky?? or smoother depending on the work
Tumblr media
i don't really use this tool much but for this specific piece, force fade was my partner in crime
Tumblr media
also i think i need to mention that i use so many layers for this. So many layers lol like to the point it's embarrassing. and at the end i merge most of them (except for the gear patterns, rings on his ear, and eyes + hands, which usually need to be by themselves as they're colored separately) Thank you for layers
and i end up with this!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
— COLORING && SHADING
yippee yahoo the fun part !!! the part that i love the most
at this point, if i havent already, i always create a folder for convenience in organization because this is the part that i stress the most about what details are on which layers lmao
then i add ANOTHER layer below that for the color, then i put every single color used on their own separate layer!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now, for shading, if im working on larger pieces with more complex shading, i'll usually plan it all out. normally when just drawing magolor, i don't really need to do this anymore because i'm so used to it lol, but for funsies i did it here anyways
Tumblr media
then i use the bucket tool to fill them all in
Tumblr media
i usually have a set color palette for all the characters i draw (though the way i shade white differs. A lot between my work as you can probably tell fhdfgf). For every color, i have two specific tones that are associated with the shading. for example, indigo + violet are shaded with my blue, pink + light orange (or lighter pink depending on my mood lol) are shaded with yellow, etc.
so, i shade the other areas with the 2nd shading color
Tumblr media
a big tip i can give for coloring is to look at a color wheel when you draw. i know that sounds like. Such basic advice LMAO but that seriously was a huge help for me when developing my shading and something i learned while studying — if you notice, in all of the shading in my work, all of the colors used are analogous on the color wheel. note that not ALL combinations will work together like others obv !! but it's a huge step in knowing where to go with it
then i add other extra details like extra lighting, halftones (if i feel like it // if it fits the work), glow to his eyes, and color the lines and ta-da!
Tumblr media
another tool i use a lot especially with my more recent art are blending modes, especially multiply. i use a clipping layer to add a dark color (usually a dark blue or purple) and set it to multiply, then erase the areas that emit light
Tumblr media
and this is the end result! this is a very very basic demonstration of it fhdjg i was a pretty messy with the lighting and erasing in this example but you get the general idea right
Tumblr media
and that's how i draw :) i hope this was helpful, and thanks for asking and being so patient with the response!

Talk to me about ace friendo - 1, 8, 20, 21, 28, 33, and 34 🤍💜
THANK YOUUUUU I GET TO RAMBLE IT'S GOING TO BE LOONG
1. Which labels do you use?
Asexual and aromantic cis(???how do you define cis???) woman. There are probably some microlabels under the ace/aro umbrellas that could describe me but I don't tend to dive into microlabels anymore - I've found that defining myself by those feels more like cutting myself up to fit into little boxes rather than finding a space I'm comfy in. I'm okay with being referred to as gay when it's a joke or as part of a group (ie "one of the gays" "gay people in your phone") and I'll count myself as a member of the LGBT community if directly asked (though I'm always a little hesitant because they don't always want to include me back). I don't use queer because I've never had it thrown at me and don't feel I have the right to reclaim it.
8. Describe your gender without using any words traditionally related to gender:
I don't know how, but you got the right answer with the wrong equation.
20. Do you feel like you "fit in" with the queer/Pride community overall?
Yes and no. I'm very thankful for the community because it's the only place I've felt able to be my full self, but on the other hand there is definitely a disconnect for a few reasons. One is that I live in a non-urban conservative area, and a lot of Pride stuff seems to default to urban and liberal. I've never been to a Pride parade - not because I want to but because there aren't any where I live. People forget those of us who live in the boonies I think - or they actively look down on us, which sucks. Sometimes the discourse feels so above my head - they're talking stores taking down their Pride decorations while I haven't even noticed the change because they NEVER do that here in the first place.
The other thing is that there was definitely a pushback towards asexuals specifically being considered LGBT a few years ago. Don't know the exact timeframe (I thankfully wasn't around online during that time) but the ripple effects can still be felt. I think the idea is that we were actually just heterosexual imposters in disguise or something - it's stupid - but it's made me very nervous about joining any LGBT groups. I always have to check to see if the LGBT+ actually includes the A, y'know? Add to that the fact that the LGBT community naturally talks a lot about sex and romance (understandable, I'm not trying to change it, on a logical and ideological level I think talking about these things frankly is good) and I can sometimes feel alienated there. Some LGBT people seem to think that sexual freedom means "everyone should have sex all the time" and like ... no. It means the freedom to choose whatever you want. If you're forcing something on me you're just as bad as everyone else.
21. What message would you give to your younger self?
Measure your life's value in happiness, not money.
28. Do you experience both romantic and sexual attraction? Do you experience them the same across any gender(s) you are attracted to?
I definitely do not have the sexual attraction, for anyone. I can tell generally when someone is supposed to be hot, but only because I've learned from experience what is socially accepted as "hot". I can definitely find people beautiful but it's in the same way I'd find a landscape beautiful - I want to stare at it, maybe I want to draw it, but nothing else. I've noticed I tend to find women beautiful more often than men; I don't know if that's because I'm more familiar with the biology, because women tend to dress up more due to societal pressures, or just a weird preference. But again, it never progresses beyond aesthetic appreciation and there have definitely been guys I like to look at too so it's not 100% reliable.
Romantic is harder. When you take out everything physical, I have a hard time telling the difference between a romance and a close friendship. I'm dense as a brick when people flirt with me because I literally cannot tell they're not just being friendly. I know I'm not upset by being single like some people seem to be, but I do get lonely without friends. There are people I want to get to know better and do stuff with - is that wanting friends? Romantic attraction? I DUNNO MAN! Most people do not seem to have this problem, so I assume I'm different and slap the aromantic label on myself. It works.
33. What about your LGBT identity do you feel proud of/want to recognize/celebrate?
I'm proud of my own independence when it comes to relationships. I don't need a significant other or a sexual partner to be "complete," contrary to what the world says. If you want those things, by all means, but for those people who are ace/aro, who aren't ready for a relationship, or are learning to just exist as themselves alone for the first time, I want to be living proof that it is possible to be happy on your own. You are not half of a person if you are single. You are a whole person. Just you is enough.
34. What are you needing most right now (what would make your life easier or more fulfilling in regards to existing as queer)?
I need a new wardrobe. Been having Gender Thoughts(TM) thanks in no small part to some of my mutuals going through it and I'm now realizing that a lot of my clothes don't really fit who I am in my head anymore. My family was kinda poor growing up and I learned not to waste things, so I have a lot of old clothes and hand-me-downs still left over, many of which are pretty classic feminine. I want to try getting some more masculine stuff and see how that feels. (if uh... if any of you have advice for going slightly more masc please let me know, this is new to me and I am confuzzled)
Living in an area where I don't see Trump 2024 signs, blue-line cop stuff, and Confederate flags every four feet would be nice too, but that's a longer-term goal.

1 - 23 :3
cracks knuckles okay
1. how would you describe your art style? uhhhhhhhh, maybe "safe" is the word rn. whenever I think of my art style, what comes to mind is just how little I've been pushing things with it. I wanna change that ;D
2. what's your favorite thing about your style? I realize I like to use semi-realistic proportions, its cool how comfortable I've gotten with drawing faces and bodies
3. what's your least favorite thing about your style? It's so static man. same thing I said for the first question, I don't think anything really looks bad, but it just is lacking in creativity in comparison to the older art that should be looking worse than what I do now. I prefer my older stuff ;D (looking at you inktobertale2021.. where did it all go wrong)
4. favorite thing to draw? regular ol people. human characters are def more in my comfort zone, which explains why I keep hitting skeletons with the humanization ray (also I prefer to draw feminine characters)
5. least favorite thing to draw? I can't even say I rlly dislike it cuz of how rarely I even do it, but I am procrastinating so hard on learning backgrounds..
6. warm colors or cool colors? cool colors are my fav, but i find it easier to work with warm ones (I used to put a cool overlay over all my warm toned drawings hgdhfg)
7. show us a WIP behold, the wip ever. this drawing... was supposed to be posted on august 2022. and then, it was supposed to be posted on dec 21st, dream and nightmares birthday. (atp if I do end up wanting to finish this idea again, I'll probably just scrap it and start over)
Tumblr media
8. what's the most fun and least fun parts about your process? most fun is flat color and rendering. (though I rarely do the latter anymore) and for least fun, tbh a lot of the sketching part tends to be difficult for me, sometimes its cool tho
9. show us a finished piece alongside the original sketch example from when sketching was fun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. how many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished? I think I do need to make more of at least thumbnail sketches tbh.. I usually just make one and keep editing it, trusting the process. (and that fails like 70% of the time. woww wonder why sketching isnt fun for me-) 11. show us the last thing you drew, be it a finished piece or a small doodle can this count,,
Tumblr media
12. show us an old drawing first deltarune drawing. here's the redraw I later made of this :3 (also old hsgdhgf)
Tumblr media
13. how long do you usually take one a piece? depends. I'll have like 276478923 wips started, and then I get a random idea that I just have to do right at that moment, and I'll get it done in like 1-4 hours. meanwhile old sketches start to rot and maybe if its lucky I'll revisit it before my motivation dies and my style is too different to wanna continue from where I left off 14. digital or traditional? digital all the way, i've gotten too dependent on the transform tool + liquefy ;D (and many other things tbh but I'd be here all day if I tried comparing them more jhdjdf)
15. if digital, what program do you use? procreate, the layouts on other drawing programs scare me
16. favorite media to work with when drawing traditionally pen on paper (am I understanding this right wdym media-)
17. what do you love getting compliments about? I like when people enjoy the humanizations I come up with, and also original designs in general 18. are you satisfied with the attention your art usually gets? hmmm yeah
19. how often do you draw? very often, I just don't have finished things to share most days
20. a piece from this year that you're really proud of :3
Tumblr media
21. something you would like to improve on the dynamicness (well, the lack of it) of everything, as said before
22. what inspires you? Ink sans and a ton of creators in this fandom (also animated shows and movies, I love animation)
23. what's something you hope people notice when looking at your art? idk tbh, just notice it at all and I'm happy :>

4. how often do you draw?
I haven't drawn in so long. Like really just sat down and drew for my own enjoyment. And that's mostly driven by demotivation and possibly depression? I've been in art school since the 10th grade, because where I live when you get to high school you choose what kind of area you want to go in. Ex.: Science, Languages, Art, etc. And I took visual arts from 10th - 12th grade and then spent 2 years in animation school. I drew less and less the deeper I got, and now I almost completely stopped. And that fact breaks my heart. I love drawing but I don't even want to draw anymore. And that's really saddening to me
5. digital or traditional?
I love watching traditional art (from 1 very specific art channel on Youtube, Drawing Wiff Waffles, she does a lot of drawing in her sketchbook and I love it!!) but I more easily make finished pieces in digital form. I do enjoy making traditional art from time to time, and I'd love to try and force myself to fill an entire sketchbook in like, a month or two maybe, just to get myself back in the groove of drawing, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
With traditional art I love drawing from life, I love drawing the human figure, and I fucking LOVE drawing with pen and highlighters. And for finished pieces I preffer to use alcohol markers and colored pencils on top when needed. And for example, I'd love to get back to drawing hands. I fucking love drawing hands. I wish I had a third arm to take pictures of my other hands with. Oh my god I love to draw hands.
7. do you prefer sketching, outlining, or coloring?
Traditionally I love sketching, but in digital art my favorite part of all time is *overpainting*. It's when you have your sketch and your flats down and then you use layers on top of all of that to paint the details and make things look smooth and polished and finished.
and here's a comparison! (i painted the skirt on the wrong layer thats why it looks the same. And I kinda gave up on the shoes I was so tired that day)
Tumblr media
That is 100% my favorite part of a fully finished digital ilustration. Second favorite would probably be coloring.

THANK YOUUU CHASE! :]
1. what is your favorite color to work with?
very fond of both blue-grey (mostly for background colors) and dark red (mostly for lines)... but also anything extremely eye-searing is very fun to work with!!
2. who is your favorite character to draw?
out of my ocs, I'd say chungy! her proportions are fun and goofy <3 but also zephyr bc I keep making his hair more and more fluffy the more I draw her... tbh to be honest all my ocs are very fun 4 me to draw svhddvs
as far as characters from media. yeah it's hiro <3
3. what song(s) do you listen to when you do art?
already answered! oh but 4got to add that usually looping one song/having music w/o lyrics helps me to focus more. sometimes I will spend an hour just in a haze and then realize I've been looping one song the whole time svdndgs
4. how often do you draw?
fairly often! I doodle a lot in class, but I usually leave the bigger pieces for weekends or days off svdhss. usually.
5. digital or traditional?
I like both! I think I doodle a lot more traditionally and do more polished stuff digitally, but there's always some exceptions. I need to use my sketchbook more... svjdsvs
9. what drawing program do you use? (if the artist does digital art)
ms paint babeyyyyy but on my phone I use this app called artflow! it's pretty nice and I've been using it for so long that I don't wanna switch sgdhsgs.
10. are you right or left handed?
right handed! not even remotely ambidextrous my left hand is very much my nondominant hand sgdhsgs
11. warm or cool colors?
I think I generally gravitate towards warm colors! I do love throwing up a warm-hued overlay on some of my digital stuff
14. what was something that you used to draw a lot that you don’t draw as much anymore?
already answered! I was v much the kid sitting in the back of the class drawing pokemon all day dvdhshs. when I was like 11ish I'd make angsty drawings of my pokemon black team that were based on death cab for cutie/keane/other 2000s alt rock songs sbfnhdbsns.

3. What ideas come from when you were little
Hard to say if I'm carrying any specific ideas from my childhood, unless I wanna dip back into my whole spiel about tabletop RPGs again! Since I started with those while being a single digit of age.
But if I'd have to say anything else, it'd be comics! Specifically the Bamse ones, as I had a mail subscription (lol remember when that was a thing) from a very early age. I've always loved comics, even did a few years and years ago professionally, and even if I'm not actively pursuing them anymore the ideas are still constantly puttering away inside my brain.
If anything, I'd say askblogging became my new type of sequential art to do? Adult life sadly slorps out all the energy and time I'd need to make the big bombastic stuff more often.
Anyway for non-swedes this is Bamse (the blue wearing bear) and his friends Lille Skutt (the bunny) and Skalman (arguably the best turtle in existence, we stan Skalman here).
Tumblr media
12. Easiest part of body to draw
Arms and legs! Good ol' limb fun. On the flipside, to this day I still feel like my faces are lacking, but that's what practise's for.
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
Digitally, at home. I don't vibe with drawing on screen tablets, so I'm pretty much locked to the comfort of my apartment whenever I wanna slap those pixels out.
Traditionally, it can be literally anywhere! I spend a lot of downtime at work doodling in a hilariously oil-stained sketchbook, I sketch while tabletopping with my pals, I let those pens sing while bored in general. (Link to the ask meme with these questions here!)

As someone who also draws traditionally, I am curious, how do you get your pencil drawings to look so damn CLEAN? Is there a sketch you do beforehand that’s hidden/removed somehow, or do you just go right at it on the page? :0
Tumblr media
Ok since I've gotten multiple asks about this, first of all, thank you so much for the compliments!!! But then to share my not-so-secret srcret, here's the methods I do for drawing:
Tumblr media
1. Draw a light sketch of the frame for the person's body before immediately drawing the harder line art on top, which kinda swallows up the sketch by the time I'm done OR
2. I just draw it on the page. No prior sketching. No anything. Just loose & free drawing, that's all!
I legitimately usually don't even do a rough sketch for characters that often anymore... like lately? I just go straight to the final drawing without any sketching or anything at all. So, I hate to say it, but I don't know if there's any advice I can give for how you can do this too. x(
I guess it's just a matter of getting comfortable in working with anatomy & your own style [plus a good dose of confidence is always helpful!!]. I do a lot of drawings in pen which helped me learn how to not rely on erasing to get a picture looking good, so I guess that's always there as an option, too?
But generally speaking, I do very minimal if ANY sketching at all & do the rest of the line art with as few uses of an eraser as possible.
Hope that makes sense & can maybe help in some way? Good luck, my dudes!!!!♡♡♡

I know you do digital art, but do you ever do traditional? what would you consider the pros/cons of digital vs traditional? (luca)
We used to do a bit of traditional, and technically we do still occasionally do traditional on our like... notebooks instead of taking notes, but for the most part at this point in our art career, we don't really do traditional much at all. We have a number of colored pencils that we don't really touch much either anymore which is kinda an interesting place to be in
We started in traditional very briefly and once we got into the habit and established that drawing was something really helpful for coping and something we'd stick to, we decided to switch over to digital where we did sketches on traditional and then everything else digital, and eventually just started doing sketches on digital.
I have limited experience in traditional so I can't really clearly do the pros and cons of traditional too well but focusing on digital I assume the opposite of the pros for digital art are cons for traditional and vice versa
PROS for Digital Art:
Easier to share with people online and share on social media, easier to get a clearer reference, generally more appealing for commissions
Minimal ongoing expenses (not needing to buy new pencils / paints / paper / sketch books regularly; often if you do it is the breaking of your drawing tool or the wearing down of your pen)
Access to a large number of tools and brushes that give a lot of explorative flexibility and "short cuts" to make really interesting art
Community tools that can be shared and found
The ability to not have to erase and the ability to undo your lines and art moves
CONS for Digital Art:
Typically higher initial investment cost (a decent plug in tablet being like MINIMUM $40, an iPad or drawing tablet being EASILY over $200 up all the way to like $2000)
Digital art skills don't always translate much to traditional - especially as you get more used to the tools digital art gives you; this results in sometimes being unable to draw anywhere as good as you do digitally when you might want to traditionally
General stigma against some asshats that think its "cheating" or "not real art" which for some reason is a thing
Less ability to rotate and move the "canvas" as you like, less tactile contact in most drawing tablets, not being able to draw and manipulate the canvas like a paper
Occasional glitches, software crashing, issues with layers, other technical issues that can make you loose progress or mess up your art if you aren't careful
Dependency on technology in general working right - if your pen breaks or your tablet breaks you cant use it
IN GENERAL:
Digital art has a lot of different techniques and mechanics than traditional art; how you handle color and how you select and plan your art will be pretty different usually. A lot of digital art in my experience you can figure out as you go since you are able to easily manipulate your colors and layers where as traditional you often build up from a base layer and the order in which you do things matter so you often want to plan ahead
Traditional art gives you a lot more genuine and "real" variation in materials and canvas types where as digital art gives you a lot more imitated materials (but in the end you are really just using pixels on a screen)
Digital gives you A LOT of options for everything, which some find to be a massive positive but others might find overwhelming, too much, and sometimes distracting
Digital makes it a lot more easier to make your art look really really clean if you want to. This sounds like a straight forward win, but often a lot of people can struggle with making art that is so clean it doesn't look good or like it was actually drawn well and thus looses its fluidity where as traditional naturally has a more of a natural level of cleanliness and thus makes it easier to make depth
At first traditional sketching is 100% easier in my experience, but digital art gives you a lot more tools to work with your sketches
Really I don't think either is particularly BETTER necessarily and I think when it comes down to it, its a question of 1) who do you want to share your art with, what do you want to do with your art 2) how much do you care about tactile / motion / physical feelings of drawing 3) what do you feel about limitations in tools and resources to art / how do you feel about having an overabundance of options 4) how much money are you willing to invest up front into art versus over time
As a digital artist, I do always say though that when you start art, its probably good to pick which one you plan to "main" early on because a lot of traditional art skills and digital art skills do not translate after the fundamentals involved with sketching as the methods of doing lineart and coloring and all other forms of "finishing" the art vary GREATLY between digital and traditional art. Like I personally can do alright traditional art, but it makes a lot less sense than digital and as a result my skill drops massively when I do (usually for social event like group painting or something similar)
Also if you ARE interested in digital art, I know a number of people who just get a like... simple stylus and use their phone. Its harder to do than if you get a tablet or something, but for those that have a smart phone and don't want to invest much at all into digital and are stubborn and willing enough to work on a smaller screen with a less precise pen, it is 100% viable and I've seen amazing art come out of it.
To be honest at some point I might try it solely for the challenge XD

Flake interview 2020-01
Not a new interview, but relatively recent, Flake with "Der Standard" 2020-01 before an appearance of Flake in Vienna (author Stefan Weiss), don't think there's a translation on the website, so here's a shot..:
Rammstein keyboardist Flake: "The reunification was a mess"
Christian "Flake" Lorenz hits the keys not only as a keyboardist, but also as an author. A conversation about controversial views on the GDR, fireworks and climate protection
At Rammstein he is the "keyfucker" - GDR jargon for keyboard players. His real name is Christian Lorenz, but he has been calling himself "Flake", pronounced in German, of course, since his youth. For a quarter of a century, the native of East Berlin has been the alien in the German rock band, the thin freak among the strong musclemen. In the meantime, Flake also hits the keys as an author: In "An was ich mich so erinnern kann" (2015) he wrote down his GDR experiences, followed in 2017 with "Heute hat die Welt Geburtstag", a literary autobiography about Rammstein. On March 26, Flake will come to Vienna's Globe Theater for a reading.
STANDARD: We are currently celebrating 30 years of 'Die Wende' *1). Your joy is limited, as one knows. How do you perceive the anniversary?
Flake: 'Die Wende' and reunification of Germany have to be separated. I experienced the change as a punk at the time. The ossified old concrete headframe of the GDR Politburo was also our enemy. We didn't want this idiotic regime anymore and we fought to loosen it up. When the wall came down, we didn't know what to do with the freedom we suddenly had. But then began an incredibly exciting time in which we tried to develop professionally, politically and musically in every direction.
STANDARD: And then came the reunification.
Flake: A lot went wrong from then on. We were annexed as a useless country, entire biographies were declared worthless, companies were closed so that the western companies could expand. We have been reset to such an extent that resentment and disappointment have built that have persisted until now. By and large, the reunification in this form was a mess.
STANDARD: If you look at Germany's east today, right-wing populism has recently had great political success there. A legacy of reunification?
Flake: Many people are disappointed because certain promises have not been fulfilled. But they already had the political left in their lives, now they are trying it with the right. Personally, I cannot understand how one can vote for the AfD *2). But those who do are doing it in large part in protest against the mainstream parties. It is clear that the AfD cannot meet expectations either. If the AfD were to rule, many people would notice very quickly that it is not getting better, but worse.
Tumblr media
STANDARD: You grew up in the East Berlin punk scene. What are the differences between the East and West punks?
Flake: There was a fundamental difference: the Ostpunks didn't need any money because life was absurdly cheap, rent around 25 marks. The koney you made from one concert lasted over a month. So you could make the music you wanted to make and not just the music that sells well. Absurdly enough, it made us very free.
STANDARD: There were also IM Stasi informers among your band colleagues at the time (IM: unofficial employee, note). Aren't you angry with the repressive surveillance state of the GDR?
Flake: I'm not angry with IM informers in the bands. Because their IM status often made it possible for the bands to exist at all. The Stasi didn't lock up its own people. The best example of this is the GDR band 'Die Firma'. It was founded by IM informers. The gag was that 'Die Firma' ('The Company') was actually a synonym for "Stasi". Covered by the Stasi, they then sang anti-subversive texts. Almost brilliant really.
STANDARD: Do you understand when it is said that the GDR was an injustice state and that Stasi repression was a kind of terror?
Flake: I can understand it when people say that who have experienced it and suffered from it. But personally, I can't say that the whole state was bad. I don't want to know how many innocent people have been or are being imprisoned and monitored in the West. I do not find the generalization of the "unjust state" okay.
STANDARD: Would Rammstein have been conceivable in the GDR?
Flake: We wouldn't have founded a band like Rammstein within the GDR because it would have been the wrong answer to this system. We founded Rammstein because we noticed that our punk music wasn't getting anywhere in the West. It took harder stuff.
STANDARD: You have retained a kind of socialism within the band. Nevertheless, Rammstein is a millionaire company. Were there moments when you thought: The money could not only destroy our character but also the band?
Flake: Rammstein is a company where money fluctuates a lot. We have a lot of employees, we buy tons of pyrotechnics, we have a huge stage, costumes, our own electricity network, we shoot extremely complex videos. The money that remains private can actually hardly harm us, because it is so limited. We really have to make sure that the plus-minus calculation works out.
STANDARD: In your book "Heute hat die Welt Geburtstag" you describe the 25 years of Rammstein as a long partnership: It has become calmer in bed, but you understand each other blindly. Is divorce even an option?
Flake: Divorce is definitely not an issue. It's like a very long marriage: You don't even think about divorce anymore.
STANDARD: In the midst of tough muscle men, you were always the figure that breaks everything, especially in the interaction with singer Til Lindemann, who sometimes roasts you on stage like a cockroach. It looks like the traditional comedian constellation white clown and stupid August, Laurel and Hardy with SM components. How important is that to the show?
Flake: We developed that more by accident. We never made it up: you are the strong one, I am the weak one. At our first concerts we always stood around very haphazardly, then we started pushing and provoking each other. When I watch a normal heavy metal band I get bored easily. We always have something going on.
STANDARD: Do you sometimes long for a role change at Rammstein? To be the strong one for once?
Flake: Nah, I have other worries. With those couple of concerts, I can handle my role well enough.
STANDARD: Can you even enjoy appearances or does that only come afterwards? After all, a Rammstein show is precision work.
Falke: What do you mean enjoy? I enjoy when everything runs smooth and everything works like a machine. There are good and bad concerts, at the good ones we take off like an airplane.
STANDARD: Rammstein mixes black romanticism with black humor. You yourself love the blues, which often sails in similar waters. Can you draw joy out of melancholy?
Flake: The blues is the best example of this. Sadness and comfort go hand in hand. All of popular music arose from a problem of the respective author. This is exactly what you want to hear when you are not feeling well yourself. During puberty you normally don't want to hear "Walking on Sunshine" either.
STANDARD: Traditionally, there is also joy in melancholy and morbidity in Vienna. Is that the Eastern European impact?
Flake: Slavic music is very melancholic, on the other hand the Goth culture comes from the west. So I wouldn't really pinpoint that to anything local.
STANDARD: It is said that Rammstein did more to preserve the German language than all the Goethe Institutes put together. Are you proud of that?
Flake: Yeah. But the interesting thing is that we are regarded more highly abroad than in our own country. In Germany there is a lot of ranting: We are dull and foolish about Germany - complete nonsense.
STANDARD: Rammstein has always been compared to the totalitarian parody band Laibach. They recently played in North Korea with the aim of appearing subversive. Is something like that conceivable for Rammstein?
Flake: We'd have to think very carefully about what we want and why we want it. If that were to help someone, okay - but only to be able to say, "We're subversive now," that's not an argument.
STANDARD: For reasons of climate protection, there is an increasing number of missile bans. A topic for Rammstein?
Flake: We played a concert in Chicago once. The local fire protection was so rigorous that we shouldn't even have lit a match. Complete ban on pyro. We went on stage and said: either we are leaving because we are not allowed to make a fire here, or we are playing without. The audience wanted the latter, of course. And it became one of our best shows. You have to weigh it up a bit: should you stop all things like a Rammstein show for climate reasons? But I totally understand that there shouldn't be any more bangs on New Year's Eve. I was in Vienna once at the turn of the year, and there was relatively little banging. I thought that was good. Berlin is one of the most terrifying cities on New Year's Eve. There it's pure aggression.
Notes:
*1) i kept 'Die Wende' as the term for the political transformation in east germany, not sure what the official english phrase is
*2) AfD, short for 'Alternative für Deutschland' or 'Alternative for Germany' is a right-wing populist political party, often characterized as far-right, known for its opposition to the European Union and immigration

A different take on Titan Science and Paths
I know I include a lot of religious spiel in my SnK rambles but, this time, I'd like to point out some of the scientific or rather, sci-fi tropes associated with the plot. Most of the generic shows tend to pull in the same old LSD bs to try and justify that the mind can possibly access a different dimension or plane when nerves are stimulated in a certain way. Now, often these dimensions are there all along but invisible and inaccessible to normal people for a variety of reasons. It is all an elaborate theoretical physics ass pull but, SnK has actually left plenty of hints down the line. So, I'd just throw in a few proofs of conventional sci-fi motifs which indicate that all the mysteries in the SnK verse will be resolved by logic in the end rather than the endgame being a pragmatic win of humanity over the devil.
• In Episode 6 of Season 1, where we actually see the 'awakening' of the Ackerman power, we get a glimpse of the brain.
Tumblr media
Mikasa's brain is shown to be getting 'charged'. It's indicative of greater ion activity in the nervous system and therefore, the body is now basically capable of super human actions. It becomes overtly sensitive, more aware and muscle power increases considerably. This is probably the most common method of showing how the mind can enter a state of hypersensitivity and when it does so, it can open 'gates' into a different dimension. I think something similar happens to Mikasa here. Her Ackerman instincts are activated and she can 'draw power' via Paths from a dimension where the source of superhuman powers, i.e. OG Ymir resides.
• Next, when talking about Paths, Eren comments that PATHS connects all the Subjects of Ymir but are invisible to them.
Tumblr media
So, it is fair to assume that Paths is in a different dimension that we cannot access. But, some people are privileged enough to open a gate in this dimension and draw strength from it when in a dire situation. That'd be the Ackermans. We know Kenny went full rage mode on the MPs because he was pushed to the edge during the Ackerman oppression period. Mikasa activated her powers when Eren's words struck a chord in her. The powers cannot be accessed only when an Ackerman is in danger. They have to consciously work their brain, focus and put up a real fight in order to open the gate. It could mean that Ackermans have special sensory organs that can somewhat perceive Paths and draw strength from there, unlike other Eldians. They have inherent superior abilities, thanks to their fundamental genetic make up.
• Now, let's come to the Titan Serum. The whole act of making a person a lab rat dates back to the World Wars when the idea of biological warfare first emerged. There's a lot of controversies regarding illegal researches that supposedly took place during the War era. War prisoners were often injected with narcotics and experimented upon. So, in light of SnK that has war references galore, it can be assumed that the Titan Serum is actually a super strong narcotic; it can work the nervous system even to an extent where it is possible to access a different dimension. Hence, the Subjects of Ymir (actually subjects of Titan experiments) are connected via Paths that run through that dimension. It can be said that the serum is a drug that helps to draw tremendous power from an alternate world. Opening such a portal would need or produce a lot of energy. This justifies both the lightning striking down and the heat generated during a Titan transformation. Lightning occurs because of charge flow. If there's a big enough created potential difference in the nerves owing to the effect of narcotics, it isn't improbable for a lightning discharge to take place. And, flowing of this huge amount of charge/electricity is what emits the heat/fire.
• Also, let's examine how Titans are killed and how Reiner's plot armor was used during RTS. Titans can be killed only by cutting their napes with a clean stroke. The nape is the pivotal part of the Nervous System. Consciousness, connection, coordination- the nape governs everything. So, severing the nape is equivalent to cutting off the body's ability to work by interpreting signals given off by the brain. Therefore, the effect of the drug is lost and hence, the grotesque flesh that supposedly comes from "thin air" sublimes as nothing can sustain it in this dimension anymore.
But, here Eren confirms they don't just appear from thin air but are actually sent through Paths. The mind or consciousness, under the effect of the serum, controls this passage. So, it's natural for this transmission to stop if the anatomical structure that deals with consciousness transfer throughout the body is ripped off. We know in RTS Levi impaled Reiner's neck with his blades but, he pulled one on Levi using the "consciousness transfer" trick. This theory explains the deus ex machina Isayama employed in that arc using Reiner. After all, it's the consciousness that's only important because the serum is primarily involved with that.
• Now, how does wounds invoke the Titan Power? We know wounds are a sign that the body is in some danger and that it needs power to overcome it. So, this is a valid cause for the brain to try to draw power out of desperation. The rest is just like how I explained regarding Ackermans. However, since Ackermans don't have the serum injected, they can only awaken muscle strength. Their bodies become more agile and hypersensitive but, they cannot access the Paths or wake up in a different dimension altogether. This is because even though their genetic make up sort of entitles them with superior reflexes and great agility, the serum (which actually has the drug) is required to open the portal to the World of Titan Power.
• The World of Titan Power sounds so far fetched but , these all are already very controversial speculations so I might as well roll with it. In my opinion, the World of Titan Power is nothing but the dimension that OG Ymir opened when she first consumed "the source of all organic matter". There actually is a certain mixture that is considered a source of all organic matter. It is a composition of some gases that when charged with electricity can produce amino acids which bind to form proteins and which then morphs into muscles. So, if Ymir did in fact ingest something like that we can say that when the lightning hit, it caused her to morph into a big grotesque mass of protein chunks, namely the First Titan. In Frankenstein, something similar happened - there's this fateful lightning strike which suddenly gives life to the monster Victor created out of scratch. We cannot entirely discard the possibility of this to have occured. This also explains why all Subjects of Ymir are connected. Given that Ymir had digested something that powerful, her genes must have been permanently mutated. This led all the subsequent generations of her race to have the ability to exercise the power she gained from "the source of all organic matter".
• The non-linearity of time : I'm no science expert but in Einstein's theory of relativity he mentioned something about time being non - linear and space-time being essentially four dimensional. What I suspect Paths is, is basically the connector in this 4D realm.
Tumblr media
This panel is further corroboration to the claim that Paths has no existence in the 3 dimensional reality we're familiar with. Therefore, the concept of time doesn't exist, at least not as being linear. Rather, there is no clear distinction between past and future. Eren Kruger can see the future, Eren can see moments into the future, there's this overriding dejá vu feeling. The relativity theory or Lagrangian logic ( which works along the lines of relativity) considers the future to influence the past. Of course, all these theories are valid only in the quantum level, but even so, sci-fi tends to accept it to work even at a normal level. This comes with a catch of course - it requires the mind to be under the influence of powerful drugs or chemicals that are associated with incredible nerve activities or the beginning of life, etc. Even besides Einstein, some Eastern cultures apparently believe in the non-linearity of time. The concept has been traditionally hypothesized for a long, long time judging from Mayan calendars, ancient tribal relics, etc. So, one may say that Isayama is drawing from all this rich history associated with time travel or time being non - linear. It is a top-notch plot device that is known to shock the readers when explained, whatever be the perspective.
• The existence of a different dimension can mean tampering with any and all known realities we find acceptable. That OG Ymir is active in that dimension isn't much of a surprise. Because, even though she's dead in this realm, her consciousness that posseses the "source of all organic matter" cannot be called dead. Rather, it can be said that it is passed on to that dimension and will live there eternally.
Tumblr media
In fact Eren is hinting at that dimension when he talks about the single coordinate. After OG Ymir died in this world, we know her powers are divided by means of cannibalism as seen in the Season 2 ending. Now the Founding Titan, which I believe is sort of like a pure-breed member of the bloodline, is the domineering one given the closest semblance to OG Ymir's DNA. Therefore, she is established as the main overseer of Paths that allow for the inter-dimensional travel. Given that her powers are superior, it doesn't come as a big surprise that she can access the consciousness of her other descendants and delete memories and stuff. A similar thing can be said about Zeke's screams which gives him control over mindless titans. Zeke posseses royal blood and all of this is possible only because the Founding Titan, containing OG Ymir's blood, is actually the gate keeper of the gate that helps draw power from this dimension that belongs to her. Also, let us take note of how Isayama specifically talks about "spinal fluid". I mean it's not just any other body part or fluid or not even blood, but always the spinal fluid that is at the centre of the Titan transformation thing. This indicates that everything is essentially depended on the consciousness or the nervous system. So, the serum may as well be a strong stimulator that makes it possible for the mind to tread on Paths which lead to the dimension where OG Ymir is looming, where all her powers (and the Founding Titan) are looming.
• So what about Zeke's rebirth? Well, the whole rebirth or respawn ass pull is Christian symbolism at it's absolute best. It is very clearly suggestive of Jesus Christ and His resurrection. But, in the context of this being part of a time hack or dimension hack or whatever, it still boils down to the fact that "the source of all organic matter" that Eldians posses is actually dormant, parasitic life form so, when its host is in danger and about to die, it'll cause the brain of the host to take a leap into Ymir's dimension where she can give first-aid treatment to her Subject. (Lol this sounds so sketchy but anything happens in sci-fis once you can sneak into a different dimension). This, also explains why when a Titan shifter dies, another, yet unborn, baby inherits the power. The "source of all organic matter" can be thought of as the earliest primordial parasitic life form that seeks to survive no matter what. So, when one host dies, it enters another host via Paths that connect all the host bodies.
Tumblr media
In Eren's words, distance and blood has nothing to ditch the transmission. This is even more evidence that everything has to do with consciousness and the 4D plane wherein lies Paths that can establish connections with all the Subjects that bear the same genes.
In conclusion, one of the themes, albeit minor, in SnK is Science Vs Religion. With the advent of science and technology in modern day Marley, it is very likely that the story will be scientifically resolved. We have heard Magath say time and again that they cannot depend on Titan powers forever and that there has to be other technological advancements. In fact, with blimps and everything and even the military thinking of "flying Titans" there's no knowing how greatly progressive Science was in that timeline. If we go back to the early chapters, we have the instances of the Order of the Church, the hegemonic insiders of Wall Sina, the so called peace-keepers in the MP. And then, in Willy Tybur's speech we have the story of Helos (the hero) and the Devil (the root of all evil). All of it is can be categorised under religious brain washing that is essential to veil the truth and to carry on with oppression. However, the SC has always fought against conventions; they dared to go outside the walls, both literally and metaphorically. The upper echelons in Marley brainwashed the public into believing that erasing a whole race off the face of Earth is peace. Willy Tybur can be said to have pulled in all the Helos and Devil crap to stage a fake didactic ideal for the Marleyans. They're made to believe that they'd be mini Helos-es if they supported genocide, much like how the Nick would tell the masses that the walls are apparently God's creations and humans aren't supposed to tinker with them. But, we see how the plot progressed by discarding such myths and by relying heavily on reason, rationale, logic and science the SC would finally tear down these walls that were hiding the truth of the world. So, it's very likely that the Devil plus Helos was just Willy Tybur's creation and in reality everything actually has to deal with science and reason (like warping of time-space or some shit like that). And, true freedom can be achieved only when Eren breaks down the walls of ignorance, unlocks these truths and reveal to the world the falseness in Willy Tybur's little fairy tale. Remember in Chapter 112 how Eren said that ignorance is the biggest impediment to freedom?
Well, it might have been a foreshadowing all along. The key to freedom is knowledge. As long as the world is ignorant and buying whatever bullshit is thrown at them, it'll remain a slave to falsehood and fantasies. All the problems of racism, oppression, etc. will continue if people keep believing whatever they're fed by the upper brass of the society when they're confused. Only when the world is aware, educated and knowledgeable can it tear down the walls of misunderstanding between the two races and stop the oppression. This would consequently lead to the freedom Eren has always hoped to achieve- the freedom to live in this world that belongs to them without being ostracized by anyone because "everyone is special from the moment they are born".

Note
That's exactly what I'm talking about! I mean I know newer edition but Heroes III was the one. Hard to not love it when u spent half of your childhood with this game and second one with the sims lmao. Ohhh that's understandable, watching streamers often looks like that. I don't play Overwatch but some of my friends do and seeing this screen... I have no idea what's going on and I'm pretty good at keeping focus, sigh.
Blue Totoro didn’t look so bad so I guess it was fine! Ohhhh I’m curious now. My skills end on drawing and baking tho… And yes I did watch Laputa and I really like it (didn’t expect anything other from ghibli lmao). About that show tho! It’ll be called Wandavision I’m sure u can google it. It was announced ~2 weeks ago with Marvel’s 4th phase, so 100% confirmed. Colour of Magic is really fun, so! You definitely won’t regret it.
And h5 on that, I wasn’t able to focus on books for last year? I was too busy with everything else, uni especially. 40C god… It’s around 35C here this summer and I’m ready to cry I truly hate this weather from the bottom of my heart.I was actualy thinking about putting my sign’s flower! But I don’t think pansies look pretty enough. Violets are lovely tho, I’m still thinking about it because I need to choose different studio (they asked 750$ for like 5cm long thing and I died inside).
I love your moodboard, it’s so pretty! Thank you so much. I never tried to put flowers in my Carat Bong and now I’m thinking about it again… My bias line includes hyung line in overall so you don’t have to worry about changing it! Wonwoo looks great there. But Jeonghan is the very first one for me. NO CHARACTER LIMIT WOULD BE HELPFUL HERE but let’s never go back to smaller gifs… as you see I’m being a little late with answering too, but it’s fine! Answer whenever you feel like it!
Right! Sometimes the older versions are just better. I often feel like new version are either overcomplicated or oversimplified, sometimes one of the old versions just has that perfect balance and it’s sad when they fail to replicate that in a newer version. Like, Sims 3 went overcomplicated and AoE III went oversimplified. Still, it’s good they’re trying out new things so they can improve in the next version?
Yeahh Overwatch is a FPS too and those are just terrible to watch lmao. That and battle royale games. Simpler games can be fun to watch, but usually I’m too impatient. I prefer to play the games myself.
Hold on, I’ll take photos for you.
Here’s Jiji:
Tumblr media
And here’s the Totoro I’m working on:
Tumblr media
Ohh you draw too? (Wait, did I know this?) What do you like to draw, and digitally or traditionally? Please show me some of your stuff after the reveal :D Lately I’m trying out digital drawing. I did Ten from NCT and am working on Prince Jun (of whom I did the sketch traditionally because that’s easier for me).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used to sketch a lot with pencil and I love working with ink too but I haven’t done that in ages rip.
Ohh gosh I can’t believe my babies are getting their own show omg!! Thank u for telling me this!! The other series they’re making also look super fun. I think it was a good decision to make them series and not movies.
Let’s run away and go live somewhere cooler together. We can get a lil cottage and draw, embroider, bake and game in peace!
I think pansies are rly cute tbh, but of course the choice is up to you! Holy crap, 750?? For 5cm?? Dang. Yeah, might be better to find a different studio, tho at the same time if you really really like their designs it might be worth it to go anyway. (tho 750 is a lot)
I’m glad you liked it bb! ♥ Ohh you have a carat bong, nice! I bought one earlier this week after they announced the new ones. I thought I’d better get one before the prices go up because they won’t be manufactured anymore. And yeah, decorating it with flowers is so cute! Carats are so creative with them! What do you think of the new carat bong btw? Personally I prefer the first one, it was very clean and lovely and simple, but I know I’ll end up buying the new one too rip.
Ahh Jeonghan! Our mischievous angel! Did I ever tell you how much I love his voice?? It’s so unique and has such a lovely character, idk how to describe it. I really love his voice lots! And he’s so sneaky but at the same time so thoughtful! Also his broad shoulders *wheeze*
That’s okay! I love talking to you but I also understand if you don’t have the time or energy to send anything because I’m just the same (: I hope your weeks been lovely! ♥
(also i’ll have to take a look at the other missions but one mission every 3 days is so much omg)
