being a godzilla fan is rough because there's always that one random kaiju that's your absolute favorite but they haven't appeared in a film in like 30+ years or so

He turned his daughter into Plant Godzilla, saddest thing I've ever seen.
Tumblr media
One of my personal favourites, Biollante tied with SpaceG in the poll. Wanted to keep her relatively close to the source material, just played up the rose motif a lot more. Kinda funny actually, I think I Mandela Effected myself into thinking that her canon design had thorns along the back and arm...vine things, then I checked Wikizilla and was like "Ah, okay, guess not."
Not as "gnarly" as the source material but I think that's artistic skill issues on my part.
Although I haven't been putting a ton of thought into the "lore" of this Godzilla AU, Biollante here is one of the characters that kinda stumps me purely because of how weird her canon backstory is. I really don't know if I'd try to keep the whole FNAF-esque "There's a Human soul in there somewhere" aspect (In fact, even Toho themselves seem to drop it in all of her other appearances, then treat her as just another villain monster for Godzilla to beat up).
At the same time, I think she's one of my favourites because of how screwed up yet strangely sympathetic she is.

It's Godzilla-but Space!
Tumblr media
Okay, so (tied) second place entry 2-SpaceGodzilla.
So, first of all with these dude, he's one of the cases where I actually did come up with some lore/origins for him. Albeit a kinda dumb one.
So, I really wanted Space to have this "evil overlord/king" kind of feeling to him, so I had the dumb idea that he was originally this alien king who was exiled or usurped off his own planet and now roams the cosmos looks for means to aquire more power and start re-building his galactic empire through conquering other worlds.
Her finds out that Earth has some really powerful crap, and gets the idea to hire Gigan in order to collect a sample of Godzilla's DNA. He then, like a genius, injects himself with the stuff and...you get what's in the picture.
Design wise, as well as the king thing, I wanna visually suggest that this Space is incredibly reliant on his psychic powers, even to move around, the actual suit used in the movie is infamously bulky, so I exaggerated that. Also his whole crystal theme runs to the extent that he's made of something closer to stone than flesh.
But of course, what's an Evil Overlord without minions? Here's a "bonus entry":
Tumblr media
Turns out another strange property of SpaceG's crystals is that they can imprison other beings and mutate them into Krystalaks, super tough crystalline minions that SpaceG can order around telepathically. Dude's pretty eager to abuse this feature too. The jerk.
Not quite sure if I'm happy with the Krystalak design, reads as a little "toy like" right now. You might have noticed there's heavy inspiration from the Godzilla Pipeworks Trilogy series of games here. Never got to play them myself (the Monsterverse is how I got into Godzilla), but I think they're really neat and hope they get remakes one day (or a proper successor.)
Kinda rambled a bit there. Anyway, Funny Sad Trauma Tree Godzilla is next.

GI-GANG RISE UP!
Tumblr media
Okay, so Gigan came in first place, so naturally here he is. The take here mostly takes from the Final Wars design, since it's my favourite of the two canon looks for him. It's so Edgy and...Gigan-y, also I like the idea of him having different weapon options. (I also have a toy of so there was easy reference material).
Since these monster designs aren't supposed to be workable suits, they can get a bit more out there and exaggerated with the body types and limb arrangements. In this case, Gigan would be like, super tall and gangly with long arms, to the point of uncanniness if you catch him standing still (a rare occurrence). I almost imagine he fights like a figure skater with a bunch of knives strapped to them.
There's two things I'm not sure on. The first is that buzzsaw. I thought it'd be more functional as a weapon if it actually came out (on an arm in this concept art, but maybe it could be a flying drone?).
Second is his colour palette, so I made two. First is based on Showa.
Tumblr media
Here's the second one, based on Millenium/Final Wars.
Last thing, I dunno if I'm still gonna give my Godzilla designs canon sizes, since I was originally using Heisei scaling, but thinking of switching to Monsterverse sizes.
Also don't have much in the way of lore for most characters, but that might be something I could get into if I expanded this project (which is a big maybe considering other stuff I have going on.)

Looks like Nebula M are gonna be at it again with our favourite Funny Cyborg Chicken will be invading this page first. Been thinking about my take on him a fair bit already.
It's also kinda funny to me that both of Godzilla's Weird Clone Siblings are tied in second place.
Then we've got Kiryu... Probably the most difficult of the robots. Gonna give him a shot.
Okay, think I might draw a little bit more Godzilla...
But I'm kinda getting art block on the "order" to draw some of the characters (done the Big Five sans Mechagodzilla so far.) Thought I'd try using a poll to determine an order. Might not include everyone, these are mostly the popular ones to start, but this might help me see who's the most interesting to people.
Feel free to suggest anyone else. I'm not sure if I'll get around to everyone, since this'll be a side project I do when I need a break from my "main" stuff.

Low Quality Godzilla sketch dump incoming
Yeah, so once again I don't have much to share, so I thought I'd try posting some sketchbook drawings. A lot of these are either random memes or very early and rough concepts for what some of the monster designs might look like (if I get around to the character depicted.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ended up trying to edit them on my computer to make things more readable (and to reduce file sizes in the upload, think I ran into issues on my phone). Doesn't look great, and I apologise for that. This type of post is probably gonna be kinda rare as a result.

The team is discussing their findings from yesterday.
This week I've decided I'm gonna crack on with the project to see how much I get done in one week. This might start to give me an estimate of how long the rest of the episode is gonna take.
..I shouldn't get too caught up in "development time", but the idea of these projects is that they're hopefully gonna be a bit quicker to make than my previous ones (which were about six months each).

A little bit more Fazbear Collection. Got the first big "scene"finished art wise.
Might slow down updates to maybe once a week usually. There might be occasions where I skip a week because I'm working on something spoilery.

Finally got inspired to finish the Ghidorah wip I've had sitting around for a bit.
Looks kinda bad but whatever. I think it's the proportions. Or the colour palette.

Heavy Spoilers for Godzilla X Kong under the image
Tumblr media
Birb.
Text reads:
Rodan, the Fire Demon
Height 70 meters, Wingspan 150 meters and Weight 16,000 metric tons.
Okay, so as I said yesterday, I ended up having a pretty good time with Godzilla X Kong. It's very Showa in it's tone, complete with all sorts of goofy stuff. Probably the funniest movie in the Monsterverse so far.
First of all, the pacing's pretty fast and quite a lot happens. Like, we get a lot of Kong stuff, he's pretty much the protagonist and the main plot revolves around him looking for and finding others of his kind, then noticing that they're in a bit of trouble, and well, doing something about it.
The Humans were rather enjoyable this time round. I think over time Legendary's just gotten way better at writing their human characters. New human Trapper is pretty awesome, beimng this Steve Irwinny crazy-awesome guy, and I think Bernie's come out much more likeable. Less of the paranoid conspiracy nut and more of a guy who just really wants to see the Hollow Earth.
I really like how Jia's story ended up coming full circle, with her almost confirming that psychic powers are a thing in Godzilla again. Then she gets to find other members of the Iwi people in Hollow Earth, and kinda becomes like a Mothra priestess? I wonder if they'll be anywhere further she goes in the future, but if not it's a really cool ending for the character.
Suko ended up being a suprisingly engaging character, starting out pretty antagonistic at first, but gradually warming up to Kong as the story continues. His character, particularly his perpetual nervousness, starts making so much more sense when you're shown what his home is like. He ends up being an MVP in the final fight too, which is kinda awesome.
Speaking of which, the introduction of Scar King is absolutely fantastic. Like, everything about the scene with the miners/slaves up to actually seeing the guy himself tells you we're dealing with a proper bastard. And Kong ain't gonna stand for any of that crap.
I didn't care much for Scar King before the movie...Now I kinda wish they didn't kill him off so soon. Dude's very much a love-to-hate kind of character with a neat fighting style, and he probably could have worked as a recurring villain (maybe slinking off back to Hollow Earth to find new ancient evils to awaken and weaponize, which would be an easy way for a few old monsters to be brought back. Gigan and Megalon, perhaps?).
Then for new characters we have Shimo. And while we don't get much of her (especially not when she's allowed to act of her own volition), what we do have is neat. She's definitely gonna be a fan favourite for the Monsterverse Original creatures. It's kinda funny how I think many people were expecting this (literally) cold-hearted villain/lackey, but instead we got a mild-natured woobie.
I really hope Shimo gets to be in a comic or a future movie, she's got a lot of potential now that she's free.
Godzilla is here too, being the angry jerk we all know and love. Honestly though, I feel like the "Godzilla needs to power up" thing is probably gonna end up being more foreshadowing for a future movie, since I dunno if he really needed to power-up to fight a balding orangutan who wields the power of slavery (you could argue Shimo was the real threat, she almost got him in the anti-gravity fight if it wasn't for Mothra).
I wish the whole team up thing lasted a little bit longer, but it was hella fun what we got. Hope this opens up the possibility of Godzilla fighting alongside his allies more often.
Rip Tiamat she did nothing wrong.
Oh yeah, and Mothra. Her involvement in the plot is very short, but sweet, telling Godzilla to cut it out for five minutes then helping out in the first half of the final fight. It's nice to see her again. Now we just need Rodan to make a comeback.
Lastly, the fights in this movie are an absolute delight to watch, especially the hilarious pyramid fight (that's like, peak Showa antics) and both parts of the final fight.
The first half with the zero-gravity is one of the most fun and unique ideas for a kaiju fight, getting even better when the humans get to help out (by first activating the gravity, then Trapper fires a Chekov's Gun with these bird things that produce and electrical field to drive off Scar King's minions).
The second half on the surface is pure catharsis, seeing Scar King finally get his comeuppance thanks to some quick thinking (and a bit of luck) from Kong and Suko, freeing Shimo so she can put her abuser (again quite literally) on ice, ending his reign of terror for good. I really love that trope where an abuser is ultimately finished off by their victims.
Overall, Godzilla X Kong is peak cinema. I love the Monsterverse, and although the wilder tone isn't for everyone, I had a great time, and would recommend. There's a ton of interesting possibities for the future too, with Kong's ....New Empire and all.

Another Fazbear Collection update this Good Friday, made some progress on the first scenes of the episode.
I haven't made a huge amount, but that's okay because I've basically been touching grass a fair bit this week (just came back from seeing Godzilla at the cinema).
Tumblr media
The old version of this shot from Alone at Freddy's. I'm trying to avoid relying on references to the short, and it won't be mandatory viewing to understand Fazbear Collecction.
It's been almost a month into this project (Started the writing of the episode at the beginning of March), though I'm not quite able to make an estimate of how long it's gonna take to see the episode's completeion. Maybe give a couple more weeks.
(Then however long it takes to get a few episodes out for a reliable answer.)

Okay so
GODZILLA X KONG WAS PEEEAAAK.
Like, it's kinda goofy, but it's one of them where you don't care that it's goofy because you're having a great time with it.
Um, yeah, just watched it. Gonna give myself some extra time to think it all over in my head, and might give some more detailed thoughts tomorrow or something.

I know I've already posted today but I was thinking about FNAF as you do and I noticed there's a very specific design trope that Scott seems to really like.
You could legit make a UCN challenge outta this. It's kinda funny.

A couple more places from Fazbear Collection's first episode.
Many of the backgrounds have "variants" of sorts with different lighting (Day/Night mostly).
The main location early one is this big Fazbear Entertainment warehouse, since the museum is still in its early-ish stages construction wise.
