A classic among classics, we’re talking ENEMIES TO LOVERS this week! We get to the bottom of what we think of as “enemies,” and how it differs from “rivals-to-lovers” and “friends-to-enemies-to-lovers” and “friends-to-lovers” (jk, we’ll never understand friends-to-lovers). We revisit some of our very favorite romances, talk about stakes, about impossible situations, and about how sexy hating someone can be.

I'm going for a run, but when I return imma gonna write about how BG3 really said "I see you all bitches with parental issues".
Bhaal, Raphael, Cazador, Ketheric, Gortash's parents, Shar, even Selûne and Ravengard are the examples of not so perfect parenting. No wonder I latched into these dynamics.

swiftie mutuals please know that i still love you i just cant help but be a hater
#my opinions on ts are complex#like i think she's an insanely good and hardworking performer#you cant ignore the amount of work it takes to perform something like her eras shows#AND i think that when she puts her mind to it she can really knock it out of the park with a great song#every album has at least one A+ song#like genuinely i think anti-hero was her best ever lyrically#and she's at her best when she leans into the sappy over the top vibe like w love story or ybwm#my main problem with her is ofc her excessive private jet use#i understand that shes too famous to fly commercial bc she'd get mobbed#but when travelling within a single country she could at least be using road travel#anyway#wrt her music my main issue is that a good 80% of it is very... bland#she doesn't really do anything new or push any boundaries artistically#just plays it safe#and her lyrics can be genuinely awful when she takes herself too seriously (1830s but without all the racists)#and that sucks bc when she DOES decide to explore a new concept or play a character#she generally makes something interesting and fun!#blank space was fun bc it was a play into the media's constructed narrative about her#reputation was. a choice. but i'll defend it for being something different and actually taking a risk#this is a long ass tags ramble but i guess my point is#shes a pop singer. shes a pop singer who makes catchy pop music and thats okay#but she has a habit of taking herself too seriously and trying to be a deep meaningful 'poet' type songwriter like phoebe bridgers etc#which is just. not at all what she's good at#her music needs an ounce of self awareness to be good but her new album completely lacks that#sigh#dont ever get a diploma in music theory worst mistake of my life

i feel like something people don’t understand is that mayor holiday could easily be a generally bad and unlikable person while also holding nuance—this isn’t to say she won’t have any redeeming traits, but a character has the ability to be nuanced and 3 dimensional while simultaneously just… being generally unlikable and/or a bad person. example: azula, from avatar—personally i like her a lot as a character but does that mean i think she’s a good person or someone i’d like to meet? no. same with akito from fruits basket
she can also be sympathetic while… being generally unlikable! it’s possible! she can be abusive and cold and rude and also well written with explanations behind her actions and believable psychology. i trust toby fox to make a character like that, or even better! read tags for more rant
#also you can have the best intentions and end up abusing your child#that’s honestly my theory. mayor holiday is stressed and hurting so she becomes overbearing and difficult on her child to the point of long#-lasting harm#and that doesn’t mean she’ll be granted redemption. mothers like that often get softer as time goes on but this is usually a result of a#stubborn character and therefore change barely makes a dent in the relationship until years later#i’m the youngest child of my mother and i’ve gotten the best side of her#but i know it took her a long time to improve and she still makes big mistakes all the time#with me and my sisters#of whom got the worst side of her#i love her dearly but i recognize she’s not the best person ever and she’s made huge mistakes in the past#so yeah. mayor holiday may not get redemption in the 7 days of deltarune#but it doesn’t mean she’s 1d and her only traits are mean cold woman#deltarune#undertale#utdr#mayor holiday#rudy holiday#rudolph holiday#noelle holiday#deltarune noelle#noelle deltarune#deltarune theory#also i feel like saying she might be a straight up bad irredeemable person isn’t saying she’s evil or 1d#toby fox obviously doesn’t make characters like that lol#as a child honestly it doesn’t matter the intentions#your parent even YELLING at you repeatedly can be terrifying#god sorry i just wanna talk a lot abt how it’s so easy to unintentionally abuse ur child but#i’d just say the same things over and over again

when the line changes from meaning "im the ruler of my own world" to "i finally have worth because i am finally the ruler" because this character has never been allowed to break the rules and never been in control of their own life. and now that they HAVE broken their every most significant rule in the worst, most traumatizing ways possible, they've both changed drastically as a person and warped the entire situation in their head: they blame themselves, they KNOW that the situation is their own fault, but they cannot handle the weight of that guilt and have forced themselves to blame absolutely Anyone else instead because of it. in losing everything that defined them as a person and Taking control for the first time in their life out of an inability to face themselves and their own actions, they think that they've finally found worth in themselves, that they were meant to be the ruler. that THIS was god's plan and what they were meant to be all along. and even then, supposedly having finally broken the rules and their meaning and their worth, they're still not actually in control. they're in denial of the truth of what happened in spite of knowing it deep down, they've lost everything that defined them as a person and have NO idea how to find it again or to discover themselves without it, and though their revenge plot has given them power over perhaps the entire world they still aren't actually the one in control. taking revenge and pleasing the only gods they know for certain exist is one last desperate, terrified attempt to save themselves from the consequence of what they've done and from ever having to face themselves.

the audacity of gwynriels/gwyn fans is always astounding, included but not limited to thinking gwyn is untouchable in terms of being safe from any bad narrative/bad light about herself as if those books aren't written by a highly problematic individual that already tarnished a whole civilization of non-white people and is incapable of knowing how to handle her LGBTQ+ characters

SCARED OF HER? SCARED OF HER? The broken remnants ( hah ) of William’s pride flare, grate against each other like bone. How dare she — how dare she — he is not scared of a child, a child he has killed, what’s more — he has long surpassed the ability to fear anything, and—
Except this place is different. In this place, he is human: startlingly, starkly so. There is no remnant, there is no axe or suit or smiling mask to hide behind. There is only him, and his body, and the animatronics that destroy him, and her. Cassidy.
And he’s gotten under her skin, hasn’t he? That twitch in her eye, the vicious anger she faces him with. Revenge, justice, call it whatever she likes — William knows, KNOWS, he still has some of his old scare factor. Tries to utilise it, clinging to scraps of power as if he’s a drowning man at sea.
“You think this is frightening, I’m sure,” he acknowledges, raspy, taunting, refusing to look at her, just to prove his fearlessness— “Big scary animatronics, a powerless death. All ringing close to home, Cass? Dear me. And here I thought this was all centred around me. This is YOUR idea of hell, isn’t it?— Projected onto me. This—”
Whatever his words, they fall short of the sheer terror in his flinch when Cassidy appears closer to him, and they are nothing compared to the hunted look in his eyes the second before she takes them. Agony is nothing new to him — hadn’t the last decades of his life been spent in nothing but? — but this kind of pain is new, raw, unending. William howls: a dog with no bone, and is almost sickeningly relieved when the same hand sliced through his throat. A puppet with its strings cut, he drops, clasping futilely at the gash in his throat like a child trying to hold back the tide. Always so frightened to die, even after all this time. Does not sob, not yet, though the noises he makes come close to it, as life fades from his form. A temporary relief — so temporary, so fleeting, he almost does cry when he’s brought back. One pale, trembling hand wraps over his eyes, both to reassure they’re still there and to hide his view of the creature tormenting him. No smart words, no clever sneer. He cannot bear to look.

Gonna be The Worst™ and answer all of these questions for all six muses here <3 But since this got so long I will put it under a cut
1. what does your muse smell like?
Jack - Jack probably usually smells a lot like the gas station (a strange mix of honeysuckle and ammonia), considering how much time he spends there. Aside from that, he probably smells like his shampoo--he uses a pretty cheap, generic shampoo, one that doesn’t have any particularly exciting or interesting scent.
Jerry - Jerry smells like mostly like smoke, considering he’s made no effort to give up his smoking habit. He also, weirdly enough, smells distinctly like bubblegum, though he claims he doesn’t wear any perfumes or colognes. According to him, that’s his natural scent.
Rosa - Rosa absolutely smells sweet! She loves to wear perfume (not too much, though)--her favorite scent is vanilla. Aside from that, she smells a bit like the gas station, though in general she smells more pleasant than some of her coworkers.
Amelia - Amelia smells a bit like coconut, though she also has the smell of gunpowder on her much of the time. She isn’t really one to wear perfume most of the time, but she will occasionally--she prefers earthier smells rather than more flowery ones.
Tony - Tony, like the others who spend a lot of time at the gas station, smells a bit like it, but he smells much more like the cologne he wears. He doesn’t wear a lot of it, but he wears some. Generally, he prefers scents like sandalwood and other woodsy smells.
Spencer - Spencer probably smells pretty nice much of the time. He invests in his appearance and cares about his image, and so he does wear cologne sometimes. However, wearing too much is distracting, so he goes without. Spencer usually prefers citrusy smells, if anything. More notable, though, is the fact that Spencer always has the smell of death clinging to him, even if it isn’t always super noticeable.
2. what do your muse’s hands feel like?
Jack - Jack’s hands are small and bony, with some small callouses developed over the years. The skin isn’t very soft, but it also isn’t super rough or dry--it’s definitely somewhere in-between. Depending on the ‘verse, he’s also missing his left pinkie finger, with rough scar tissue where it once was.
Jerry - Jerry has warm, strong hands with long fingers and thick, hard callouses. Aside from the callouses, though, his hands are INCREDIBLY soft. He takes his skincare routine seriously. Aside from that, Jerry also has a deceptively strong grip, and if you go in for a handshake he will commit.
Rosa - Rosa has the softest hands of the group, unsurprisingly. Her hands are also very warm and, like Jack’s, rather small. She has a skincare routine that she sticks to and keeps her hands clean and manicured to the best of her ability. Also, her hands are very warm.
Amelia - Amelia’s hands are usually pretty cold to the touch, and though she doesn’t have a strict routine she keeps up, they’re still not particularly rough or dry. Similarly to Tony, Amelia has a strong grip, though her strength isn’t as obvious at first glance.
Tony - Tony’s hands are warm and broad, with prominent veins on the back. He does have some callouses, but they’re not super prominent, and while his hands aren’t necessarily soft they’re also not unpleasant to touch. He has a strong grip, too.
Spencer - Spencer’s hands are always cold, always dry, and his skin is always just on this side of unpleasant to the touch. He has hard, rough callouses from years of hard work, and though he cares about his appearance, he doesn’t waste time trying to keep his skin soft. Holding Spencer’s hand wouldn’t be a very pleasant experience.
3. what does your muse usually eat in a day?
Jack - Very little. Jack is the type to often forget to eat if he’s not reminded, and at most he will occasionally snack on some of the foods at the gas station. It’s incredibly rare that Jack sits down to eat a full meal. In the main ‘verse, he’s getting better about this, but it’s still certainly a process.
Jerry - Jerry, like Jack, doesn’t usually eat much in a day. However, he is much better about taking care of himself, and when he can he tries to make sure that Jack is eating, too. He likes to cook his own food, and he can make some pretty creative dishes. How good are they? Well.
Rosa - Rosa usually tries to keep her meals relatively light, though she does have a big sweet tooth. Unlike Jack and Jerry, Rosa is much better at taking care of herself and eating three meals a day when she can.
Amelia - Usually, Amelia eats breakfast and dinner and that’s it. She may eat something light as well during her lunch break, but for the most part she doesn’t have the time. She’s a busy lady, after all!
Tony - Similarly to Amelia, Tony doesn’t usually eat a full three meals a day. However, he does make an effort to take care of himself when he can, and he much prefers home-cooked meals to going out. And he’s actually a good cook, so you know he’s doing well for himself.
Spencer - So this question really made me ask myself, “Does Spencer eat??” The answer to that is yes, of course, but I think he’s similar to Jack in that he eats very little and often forgets to. However, he does eat better food than just whatever’s at the gas station, so he has that going for him.
4. does your muse have a good singing voice?
Jack - Nope, and he doesn’t particularly care either way. Jack isn’t one to sing regardless, though he may try humming to himself now and then.
Jerry - No, and that’s something he’s proud of. He will sing along to music at the top of his lungs, and he doesn’t care that he can’t carry a tune or that his voice is always incredibly off-key. He’s having fun and that’s all that matters.
Rosa - Kinda? I think Rosa doesn’t think her singing voice is any good, but it’s not like it’s outstandingly bad or anything. It’s also not like... incredibly amazing or anything. I’d say it’s pretty average--she can carry a tune decently and it sounds nice.
Amelia - Yes!! It’s not something she particularly likes to advertise, but she has a very nice singing voice and often sings to herself when she’s alone.
Tony - Yes! Though he’s more inclined towards playing music than singing it, he has a pretty decent singing voice and it’s something he’s very aware of. Do I think sometimes about him serenading someone? You can’t prove anything (I do).
Spencer - Not really--before his first death, he probably had a pretty average singing voice, but now it’s kind of terrible and that is something he’s painfully aware of. Is he a bit insecure about it? Perhaps!
5. does your muse have any bad habits or nervous tics?
Jack - I’ve talked pretty extensively about Jack’s bad habits and nervous tics, so I won’t go on and on about those. I will say, though, that he really has a bad habit of skin picking and biting his nails when he’s anxious, which is part of why he paints them. He’s less likely to bite them when they’re painted.
Jerry - Jerry doesn’t really have any nervous tics, but I’d definitely say his smoking is a bad habit. It’s not one he’s looking to kick, either. In general, Jerry has a bit of an addictive personality and develops bad habits very easily.
Rosa - When Rosa is feeling REALLY nervous, she messes with her hair and clothes a lot. She is very much a fidgeter, and her clothes are frequently a little messy as a result. Another thing is that Rosa tends to reach out to others when she’s nervous, grabbing their arms, hands, etc.
Amelia - Amelia doesn’t have much in the way of obvious bad habits or nervous tics, as she’s spent a long time perfecting her poker face and ability to stay calm under duress. However, she does have a bad habit of biting her lip, especially when stressed.
Tony - Tony tends to tap his fingers against nearby surfaces when he’s nervous, which doesn’t happen often. He’s usually only ever nervous if he doesn’t feel like he’s in complete control of a situation or otherwise at a disadvantage.
Spencer - Spencer would gladly insist that he doesn’t have any nervous tics, which is true for the most part! Because Spencer’s worst habit is that when he feels threatened he almost always immediately jumps to violence to take care of the problem.
6. what does your muse usually look like / wear?
Jack - Jack usually looks exhausted and a bit disheveled. The regulars at the gas station are used to that, though, so it’s never really worth commenting. When not wearing his work clothes, he tends towards baggy hoodies and jeans. However, when going somewhere nice or trying to impress someone, he WILL dress up and try to look a bit nicer.
Jerry - Jerry loves to dress in outrageous or, for lack of a better word, loud clothing. He loves to stand out and wears just whatever he thinks is fun. Does he look ridiculous? Yes. Yes he does. But he’s having a good time.
Rosa - Rosa usually looks nice and cute--she invests quite a bit in her appearance and loves dressing in shades of pink and yellow. Not to say she’s vain or anything, but she likes to look cute. Outside of her work clothes, Rosa most likes to wear sundresses (especially ones with pockets).
Amelia - Above all else, when on the job, Amelia wants to look professional. She already faces a lot of discrimination from the locals for her gender and skin color, and she knows to be taken seriously she has to appear as well-put together as she possibly can. As a result, she very rarely dresses down, even when off the clock.
Tony - Tony usually prefers to dress pretty casually, but he still wears nice clothes when he can. He isn’t really one for wearing a suit and tie casually, but he’ll wear a nice button-up and slacks. In general, his biggest concern is to dress for comfort and practicality while still making a good impression.
Spencer - Spencer usually tries to dress nice and does enjoy a good suit, but in his line of work, it’s not worth it to wear something super fine that will very likely be ruined almost immediately. Most of the time, he just dresses in all black, sometimes in tactical gear, and tries to appear as intimidating as possible.
7. is your muse affectionate? how much? how so?
Jack - He definitely can be, in his own awkward way. Jack isn’t super outwardly affectionate, even to those he’s very close to, but he shows affection in little ways when he can. Oftentimes, the best way Jack knows how to show affection is by just being there for a person or sharing something with them that he doesn’t normally share with others.
Jerry - He definitely is. Jerry is an incredibly affectionate person, and he’s also a very tactile person. While he’s usually good about respecting boundaries when it comes to touch, Jerry is absolutely the type to show affection by ruffling someone’s hair or patting them on the back unexpectedly.
Rosa - Oh, absolutely! Rosa is a very outwardly affectionate person, especially with those she is super close with. She’s a big fan of hugs, and sometimes she’ll even give her friends kisses on the cheek (if they’re comfortable with it, of course).
Amelia - Not outwardly, but she shows affection in her own way. When Amelia is close to someone, she usually shows affection by teasing them. She very rarely calls the people she cares about by their actual names unless it’s a serious situation--instead, she opts for nicknames, some of which very easily come off as a bit... patronizing, to say the least.
Tony - Tony is affectionate deep down, but he’s also a very guarded person most of the time. Becoming close to someone is dangerous, especially for the other person, and it’s best for him to keep his distance. However, when he REALLY cares about someone and lets those guards down, he’s an absolute sweetheart and incredibly affectionate.
Spencer - Spencer is less affectionate and more possessive. When it comes to someone he cares about, showing affection doesn’t really come naturally to him, especially in any quote-unquote ‘traditional’ sense. The way this man shows affection is by ensuring that anybody he considers his stays his.
8. what position does your muse sleep in?
Jack - Jack normally tends to curl up a bit when he sleeps, kinda like a little cat. Considering he grew up with so many foster siblings and had to share the space with them most of the time, he’s very used to trying to take up as little space as possible when he sleeps. This is doubly true when he shares the bed with another person.
Jerry - Jerry sprawls out like a starfish when he sleeps alone, but when he’s sharing a bed with someone he absolutely clings to them and cuddles up. He loves to spoon up against his partners, but he tends to cling a bit TOO tight for comfort. Good luck getting out of his hold.
Rosa - Rosa is also a cuddler, though she doesn’t hold on nearly as tightly as Jerry. She actually can’t sleep if she’s not cuddling something or someone, so her cat Ricky usually sleeps in her bed with her. (Yes I headcanon she has a cat <3)
Amelia - Amelia usually sleeps on her side and a bit stiffly. She doesn’t spread out, but she doesn’t necessarily curl up. When sharing the bed with another person, Amelia isn’t really much of a cuddler much of the time, but she usually sleeps facing them at least. Though she’d never say no to a partner wanting to spoon her.
Tony - Tony, when sleeping alone, tends to sleep on his back or on his side, one hand under his pillow. He usually keeps some kind of weapon under there, and he wants to be able to access it in an emergency. When sharing the bed with another person, though, Tony is also a cuddler. He enjoys being able to kinda curl around whoever he’s sleeping with, holding them close and protecting them.
Spencer - Spencer can sleep standing and with his eyes open. It’s kinda terrifying. That aside, though, when he does sleep he just kinda falls asleep anywhere he needs to and in any position. He doesn’t tend towards any specific position.
9. could you hear your muse in the hallway from another room?
Jack - Not unless he’s very stressed or otherwise emotional! Jack tends to speak kinda quietly, and he very rarely raises his voice. Even when he’s trying to talk a bit louder, he can be hard to hear at times.
Jerry - Nearly always. Jerry is a naturally very loud person, and even when he’s trying to be quiet he has the kind of voice that naturally just carries very well. Unless he’s REALLY trying to be quiet (unlikely), you could almost definitely hear him from another room.
Rosa - Probably not unless she’s very excited. Rosa doesn’t tend to talk very loudly most of the time, and she isn’t really the best at projecting her voice. However, when she gets excited, she tends to talk both faster and louder, so you’d likely be able to hear her then!
Amelia - I’d say so. Amelia doesn’t necessarily talk loudly or anything, but she often uses a commanding tone and speaks just loudly enough to be heard. If she wants to be heard, you will hear her, though she doesn’t scream or yell most of the time. She just knows how to project her voice enough for people to hear her.
Tony - Sometimes! Tony tends to talk a bit more quietly, but like Amelia he knows how to project his voice when needed. If he wants to be heard, you’ll hear him--if he doesn’t, though, he knows very well how to be quiet. His natural speaking voice is a bit more on the soft side, though.
Spencer - Spencer talks in a quiet, somewhat raspy voice, almost like a hiss. He can still be loud when he needs to be, but he much prefers to be quiet unless he’s actively trying to intimidate someone. If that’s the case, I’d definitely say you could hear him from another room.

Thinking about how comedically bad nearly all of my partners have been
#First we had a couple of Extremely Unrequited Crushes#Then we had a straight and probably homophobic girl who flirted with me as a way of making fun of me#Who I never actually dated but am counting as she was the first person to ever show romantic interest in me and I was so flattered by the#attention that I got a crush on her#Worst mistake of my life honestly she was such a bitch#Also I was closeted and she’d figured out that I was queer which made it worse#Then I had my first relationship at like. Fourteen? Which was genuinely comedically bad#like the dude straight up cheated on me via catfishing our mutual best friend multiple times#And he also created fake puppet accounts (two of whom he catfished my friend through and another one who he tried to catfish my friend#through)#And then one of these fake puppet accounts committed suicide and another of his fake puppet accounts “blamed him” for it#Which. Lol the puppet account wasn’t wrong#And like he also faked multiple mental illnesses like depression and schizophrenia#Like he was just comedically bad. You can’t make that shit up like fuck was up with him#The second one was also pretty shitty but much better in comparison. There was a weird power dynamic there because he was two years older#than me and I was VERY sheltered and didn’t realise that was maybe a little weird and thought it was Totally Normal#And uh. He was super controlling and weird#And also he broke up with me twice both times so that he could persue someone else (one of whom was his bff’s just broken up ex boyfriend)#And he also ignored me for like a week/two weeks before we actually broke up both times#And the first time he broke up over text and the second time he broke up through our mutual best friend#Kind of. Like we were sitting in the art room and he asked everyone except me him and our mutual best friend to leave#And then our mutual best friend had to explain to me whilst he was just sitting there about how he didn’t really have those feelings for me#anymore#except that didn’t really happen either because I panicked and ran off and hid until the end of the day#So yeah. That was pretty wild but not as bad as the first one#The third/last one wasn’t too bad either. He only ignored me for two weeks at the end of the relationship#And he apologised afterwards and we’re still friends now and he’s super super guilty over it#but yeah all of my partners have been comedically bad and I find that absurdly funny#Also I should probably tag this vent tw so#Vent tw

Sometimes at work I just want to pull a Clippy and be like, "it looks like you're trying to test this patient for vitamin D deficiency! I say that because the diagnosis code you used is 'Screening for Vitamin D deficiency'! But the test you asked for is Vitamin D dihydroxy (not to be used for vitamin D deficiency screening). Did you mean to ask for the much more common and less expensive test, Vitamin D 25 hydroxy, instead?"
But no, we're not supposed to fill out a follow up request if a doctor explicitly asked for the test, which they did.
Hey, this is a great example how American healthcare is wildy inefficient and riddled with errors!

I worked retail for a long time and people really do treat you like shit sometimes. But between selling sex toys, mattresses, and jewelry I can say definitively I got treated worst selling mattresses.
All three of my jobs were in sales but selling sex toys we were allowed to put people in their place, and in jewelry people didn’t want to misbehave in a fancy setting. But people at the mattress store had no problem yelling at me, hitting on me, or insulting me to my face.
For a while I was managing my own store for the company. I ran a small location and had struggling employees placed with me for rehabilitation. If their numbers improved they could go back to bigger stores. If not, they got fired.
So this meant I was the manager of problem employees. At one point both of my people had a foot out the door. The company was going downhill and changed computer systems and they were fed up. Consequently, they made a ton of mistakes, because they just didn’t care about the job or learning the new systems.
I strolled into work on what was essentially my Monday to a shit show. Deliveries scheduled without product, wrong things on orders, poor expectations of the process, you name it. I spent the entire morning getting yelled at for mistakes that weren’t mine.
The final straw came when a man called furious that his moms bed for her nursing home had a delivery window he couldn’t accommodate. This wasn’t a huge disaster since we still had time to deliver it before she moved. I ran him through the options and he just kept screaming at me. Not for a solution but because I was there and he was frustrated.
My heart filled with malice and a cold fury. A calculating part of my brain had a realization in that moment that I could stay a punching bag or I could strike back.
I quavered my voice delicately, taking in a shaky, warbling breath like I was trying not to cry. “Sir,” I quivered through fake tears, “I don’t know what you want from me! I told you what I can do, I didn’t make this mistake I’m just trying to fix it!” My voice broke pitifully on the last syllables, sounding in all ways like a sweet innocent person being yelled at who’s just trying her best, really!
It was like I’d doused him with cold water. My emotional act was the realization that he was screaming at someone who was just doing their damn job, and he was being an asshole. He hastily made an excuse and hung up.
I had a third employee covering with me from another store that day who heard everything. When I hung up, I looked over to see them watching me with an awed expression. “Did… did you just pretend to cry?”
“I absolutely fucking did,” I said with feeling, “and I’d do it a thousand more times. If that’s what it takes for someone to realize they’re behaving like a fucking prick, they deserve it.” The employee looked at me like I was their hero.
The man called back, apologizing profusely, having magically arranged his schedule to accommodate delivery. He came in later that week with an apology Starbucks gift card. I was gracious in my acceptance.
I pulled it a few more times before leaving the company. I felt no shame in the ruse. If someone behaves so poorly that it’s plausible their behavior would drive someone to tears they deserve to feel absolutely wretched about it.

for kerra (and anyone else whose answer would be interesting), has she ever hurt anyone, badly, who didnt deserve it?
Oh, that's a good one, because the answer is yes.
Under the cut for discussion of suicidal thoughts/feelings.
Kerra follows a lot of the personal story pretty directly, which also means she did a lot of running around and helping Destiny's Edge figure itself out. The relevant incident in this case involves the events of Honor of the Waves.
Eir has gone north to help the kodan who live on the ship sanctuary, and she's basically doing this because she feels that she can't make up for the mistakes she's made and wants to go out as a hero. She feels like she's useless to her friends. Kerra and Caithe go to both help and make sure she doesn't do "anything rash", is I think how Caithe puts it.
Timeline-wise, this occurs not all that long after the Pact's been officially established and set up in Fort Trinity. Kerra is...not doing all that great. She's actively working to prepare the Pact to make the trek towards Zhaitan, and this is the first time she's ever fully shouldered that weight. She's just lost Tonn not all that long ago and is dealing with a renewed surge of guilt/responsibility over not just his death but everyone else who she's lost in her life. She's Not Doing Great, to say the least--the only reason she's not doing something like Eir's trying to do is because she has responsibilities to the Pact and her Wyld Hunt and she knows people are counting on her.
The combo of Kerra not being okay at this point and Eir reflecting a similar state back at her results in Kerra dealing with the situation really badly. She's usually pretty careful with her words--she's skilled at diplomacy and also just personal interaction--and she really doesn't ever actively throw insults or accusations at anyone who doesn't deserve it. She did this time, though.
Eir insists that she's made up her mind, that she's set in what she's doing, and Kerra snaps. She screams--VERY loudly--at Eir. That she's being incredibly selfish, that of course her friends need her, she's running away and how dare she, she's selfish, she's selfish, she's selfish--
And Eir turns around and heads further into the ship.
Kerra, Caithe, and the kodan with them follow Eir, and she is physically all right and the dungeon does roughly follow the original story, but Eir and Kerra are on very weird terms for a while after that. Kerra doesn't have a chance to properly apologize until after Zhaitan's defeat, at which point she does the wreath thing. Eir accepts the wreath and said apology. The two of them are never bosom buddies, but they do become fairly decent friends afterwards. Kerra still immensely regrets what she said and likely always will--she hurt a friend and ally and someone she respected with words she usually directed at herself.
