Lucien: Uh, just a tick. Aurora has Rebekah, hmm?
Aurora: No reason why I shouldn't be trusted with my sire's safety. Lucien: [scoffs] Of course... unless you were to have one of your episodes.
Tristan: Easy, Lucien. My sister sought leverage to protect herself. Who among us would do otherwise?
#Tristan's pov:#She stole her from me and I'm not offended.#Would you kindly put on your muzzle?#Tristan is very complicated when it comes to Aurora. There is quite a bit of inner conflict there#On one hand he is overprotective beyond the nine circles of hell.#And he hates Aurora playing where there are so many immortals stronger than them.#And yet...He also defends what he calls her “right to take charge of her fate” Not once not twice but trice. All times to different people.#And in opposition this is reason number 767 why he would never take Lucien's crush seriously.#From Tristan's interpretation Lucien is sort of similar to...Gatsby without the charisma.#He has these fantasies about impressing the girl he wants by placing the world at her feet.#But he doesn't truly want Daisy. He merely wants the idea of Daisy he fabricated inside his head forever ago.#And he lashes out to the point of offense whenever Aurora doesn't conform to the script he has for her#He refuses to admit she is the kind of Daisy who...Kidnaps Rebekah.#Tristan exists at this strange point where he is sometimes the one reassuring Aurora she is indeed that person. And that's just perfect.#He “has no doubt she can burn the entire world to dry the oceans”#She “should remember she can do anything.”#But simultaneously he is still going to be insanely worried and murderous about Aurora suffering a bruise whenever she massacres a city.#Because she is just so much more important to him that everything else that surrounds her. And he doesn't know how not to be.#Even the infinitesimal possibility of anything bad happening to her awakens his best and his worst.#Out of eternity

Finders Keepers (bfd!Joel)

Cry, Baby
Joel fucks you to the point of tears. That’s all.
Just Peachy [anal]
Joel’s got a jealous streak and a bold idea.
Bucky Barnes
Wedded Bliss (Mob!Bucky)
The marriage was arranged, and the sex is deranged. Bucky is so obsessed with your pussy that he almost forgets he’s meant to be faking this whole thing—and hating it, like sworn enemies are supposed to do.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
Daryl Dixon
Dead Ringer
Weeks of separation and sexual frustration come to a head when Daryl pays you a visit in the middle of the night. Whether it's the product of your own sex-deprived subconscious or reality, you can't be sure—and couldn't care less. Daryl wants to fulfill the fantasy any way he can.
Easy Street
You steal a cop car and almost run Daryl over en route to the Sanctuary. You can’t decide if you want to fight him, fuck him, or bring him back to Negan. Lucky for you, Daryl is game for all three.
Nighthawk
You decide to bring Spencer to the neighborhood Halloween bash to take your mind off your breakup with Daryl. Your ex isn't so easily convinced of your intentions and decides there's no better place than his motorcycle to show you just how much he misses you.
Cherry Pie
You know virtually nothing about sex, and Daryl’s done it all. Together, you take on an impromptu anatomy lesson, and you learn that Daryl has a lot more to teach you than what’s covered in the textbooks.
Walker Bait
An unforeseen foray into a sex shop leaves you and Daryl trapped between a plastic cock and a hard place as a herd of walkers closes in. Angry sex ensues.
Grow a Uterus and We’ll Talk
Daryl has a bad case of baby fever, to put it lightly. You’re practically terrified of children. Rick lends you his kid for the night, and together, you come to learn that parenthood might not be the worst thing in the world. Even easier than baking muffins, one might say.
Honey Trap
You’ve been tasked with two simple jobs: infiltrate Alexandria’s community and bring intel back to your boss by any means necessary. When your entry point into the group takes the form of a familiar blue-eyed archer, you expect this to be your easiest gig yet—that is, until your prey decides to hunt you back.
Pregnant Pause
Babymaking is a bit trickier than anticipated, and months have passed with no sign of pregnancy. When your period finally doesn’t show up on time, you and Daryl act fast and head straight for the pharmacy—and get a little caught up along the way.
Mr. Dixon
Your efforts to seduce the DILF next door have all failed spectacularly, so you decide a wet hot car wash in front of his house is in order. Mr. Dixon is less than impressed with your antics and plans to teach you a lesson in good manners and ‘neighborliness.’
I’m a Good Girl, Officer!
Apparently flashing your tits to truckers on the freeway is frowned upon in small towns like yours. When three familiar King County cops take charge of the case, you learn they punish bad girls a little differently.
Playing Dangerous
Working undercover in a seedy part of town, homicide detective Daryl sees you in your skimpy club attire and mistakes you for a hooker. A wrongful arrest makes for a funny way to foreplay, but you’re still game.
Fake It Til You Make It (Or Drown)
Daryl finds out you faked an orgasm. Instead of getting mad, he decides to get even.
Best Served Cold
Since your fiancé can’t seem to keep his hands off of Lori, you decide Daryl is the perfect way to make him pay. Revenge sex has never felt so good.
Coming Soon:
Bite the Bullet
Back at the prison, new recruits have been showering you with gifts. One of these presents doesn’t sit quite right with Daryl, and he decides it’s time to let the men know just how he feels—and who you belong to.
Atlantic City
A very drunk Daryl meets a stripper in Jersey and wastes no time putting a ring on her finger. With the late, great Elvis Presley presiding, the two get hitched in a slipshod ceremony a couple weeks before the world descends into chaos. This marriage may be short-lived, but damn if the honeymoon won’t be one to remember.
Requests are open!

okay three people asked me to expand on why i think mamoru hosoda is a hack and it boils down to "conformity is good actually"
my opinions are based largely around wolf children and boy and the beast and will have spoilers for both these films. i have seen mirai, belle, and girl who leapt through time but the impression they left on me was too weak/seen too long ago for me to use them confidently as evidence. summer wars is a perfect movie but importantly: he didn't write it. that was written by satoko okudera. apparently so was girl who leapt through time but im not TALKING about that movie.
i'm taking about wolf children and boy and the beast.
the end of the girl wolf child's arc in that film is being a normal girl. she gives up her interests, the things that make her happy (bugs and Being A Fucking Wolf) for the sake of fitting in, and for a boy. the boy wolf gets to go and have adventures in the woods and be free but She has to conform to life as a girl because a boy thinks she should be normal and this is not portrayed as tragic.
in boy and the beast, the boy is brought into this beautiful, magical world where he's powerful, respected, and has a family. it's a place where he's happy and successful and is just generally better than earth. it's fucking narnia. in the end, he gives that all up and goes back to living on an earth he hasn't been to for half his life. why? for a father who abandoned him and i guess regretted it later, and a girl he just met. my man is a master swordsman and gives all that up to go to college, for some reason. he has an enormous fantasy world he can live in, a REAL actual escape, and he would rather study for college entrance exams. and we're supposed to find that admirable?
it's shinzo abe you will not improve the birthrate trash. it takes these wonderful fantasy concepts and goes "but remember: you have to be straight and live in society to be truly happy" as if that's a lesson anybody actually wants to hear and doesn't kneecap the endings. like sure you can go "oooh weh escapism is unhealthy though, we have to live in reality" but then maybe he could do a better job convincing me these endings Are actually good for these characters and not grim inevitabilities.
also he keeps fucking making the digimon movie again and if that isn't hack behavior

Toga Himiko - To want a savior
When we think of Himiko, we often come to the conclusion that she is a girl of tragedy. Someone who has repeatedly been rejected by the society around her, and turning her into a “real villain”.
But have we stopped to think that Toga has already chosen to be saved? Let’s talk: the mind and choices to Himiko.
What is a hero?
Now, I’ve kinda talked about being a hero a lot. But I wanna ask the question, what does being a hero mean to Himiko?
Lets go back to our first introduction to Toga, why did she join the league?
Horikoshi often describes Stain as a “dark hero” or vigilante over an actual villain, making Himiko’s inspiration feel out of place (im not completely sure on this, I think he did? If I’m wrong sorry!! Working off of a vague memory I read of an interview). Stain has always had a motive, and that motive is to rid the world of “bad” and “corrupt” heroes. In stains belief system, a Hero is someone who is willing to sacrifice everything for the safety of others. Things like monetary pay or an egocentric Justice, things that Iida or Ochako have as reasons to be heroes at the beginning of mha, are villainess things in his mind. (Stain also questions the ideas and boundaries of what “true villainy” is because, to be honest, it’s a pretty relative term. It depends on your morals and ethics over anything else, and that kinda gets muddled and fuzzy the bigger the group. Also, are villains and criminals different? Like aoyama?)
So what does this mean for Himiko? Well, we don’t really know. We’re working off scraps, a vague idea of “being free”. Maybe she believes that fulfilling stains ideas will somehow bring this freedom, because she will only be around “true heroes”.
What we do know, is that she sees Izuku’s sacrifices with his beat up body, and Ochako’s impressive tenacity and empathy for others, and she adores it. She LOVES THAT SHIT. Of course, she could also just be attracted to Dekus blood or Ochakos life, but I think it’s more than that. Other than age, there’s no one in the league or general villains (that we know of) that she has developed these admirations or crushes on. She loves the league, but she certainly doesn’t admire them.
But she does admire Ochako and Izuku.
She “chose” two hero students specifically. Two students that have repeatedly proven themselves for their heroics. They are the ideal heroes in Stains eyes, because they repeatedly sacrifice.
Because Toga Himiko, would like to have someone who would sacrifice for her.
Do you want kill me too?
Himiko doesn’t hate heroes. She never has. Heroes have never been considered to her as a direct issue. Everyone else in the league was somehow done wrong by a hero, one way or another. Usually, this wrongness is then taken in as a vulnerability for someone else (like afo) to nurture into a festering hatred. Shigaraki and Dabi both experienced this, and spinner simply followed in Shigaraki’s footsteps after the (poorly written) fantasy racism that he experienced. (I refuse to just say racism, because it’s not at all an accurate portrayal of how racism works and it will continue to NEVER BE an accurate portrayal. Ever. I want to make that clear)
Himiko, however, has had an indirect grooming to some extent. This puts her in an interesting place of vulnerability; one that afo exploits and Ochako ignores.
Going all the way back to 289, this chapter encompasses two things: Himiko’s crush and Himiko’s hope.
Tumblr media
Her crush, not understanding of what she’s saying or asking, is obviously confused by this inadvertent confession. Ochako doesn’t realize until 348’s “unrequited love” chapter what this whole scene meant to Himiko.
Tumblr media
Because, not only is this her direct confession, but an inadvertent call for saving. Of course, Himiko’s idea of being saved by Ochako, and Ochako’s idea of saving Himiko, would be very contradictory.
But it’s still there.
This is Ochako’s chance.
And she BLEW IT!
Tumblr media
And god, she knew it. She knows that’s what this is, that’s what this realization was.
Because Ochako is supposed to be the hero that makes other people smile, not to be the one smiling.
Tumblr media
Her thinking of Himiko during her speech? That was Ochako realizing her call for help.
Tumblr media
Thinking of Himiko after her confession to Izuku? She realized that it was, not only a call for help directed at Izuku, but that her previous interaction was a confession.
The real Himiko Toga
So, that begs the question hero, who is the real Himiko Toga?
Tumblr media
I don’t think this is about not loving someone. Himiko does love people, she only wanted to “become” Jin when she desperately needed to be. Because Jin loved Shigaraki and Dabi, Jin loved Toga Himiko.
And that’s something that she can’t do right now. She can’t love shigaraki, she can’t love afo, she can’t even love dabi, the man who gifted her that vile of blood. She can’t even love herself because of it.
That is, if love is the only factor here.
She can still love Dabi or Shigaraki, she can still admire afo, but that doesn’t mean she admires their hatred or loves their destruction. Jin loved people, he loved the life he built in the league. Himiko admired that happiness, she loved and cared for him. Thats why she can use his quirk but no one else’s.
What if, she needs to both love and admire someone? What if she never loved Izuku, but admired his heroics, like Ochako?
The scene that ochako thinks of here is actually Himiko calling out Ochako directly on loving someone.
Tumblr media
This is about their shared crush, but was that crush ever real? Did it ever even matter? Is it just about their first interaction, Ochako’s obsessive rumination over this one interaction? Is this a callback to “ever since I met you, I just couldn’t stop thinking about you”?
What if it’s all of those things? It’s not so far fetched to believe that Ochako needs to use her thoughts, her love, and her admiration to save Himiko.
Because this is Ochako and Himiko’s acceptance of their crushes, heartbreaks, and admirations. Admiration and love get so muddled over time. There is a difference, especially when that admiration only holds you back, like in Ochako’s case, like in Himiko’s case. But they’re still apart of the same concepts.
Himiko’s love also isn’t just romantic, it’s familial or platonic. She’s rough around the edges, but the Himiko that went to Ochako to see if she would be saved is still there. And that’s why she’s not letting her go anymore.
Tumblr media
Because Himiko Toga, the real one, still wants to be saved.

Soul, body and what remains- A DS2 theory
I've decided to write down my theory about what I believe might happen in DS2. Tumblr seems like the best website for it, given that I can write everything in one easy to read post and it has a high likelihood of reaching people who are also insane about this game
TLDR: After the events of DS1, Amelie has given her soul to Lou, which is why Higgs is after her- he wants to rid the world of any traces of Amelie left so that he could "ascend" and take her place. Amelie's body became the Chrystalis (Elle Fanning), who fell into the Seam and was "spat out" into the world of the living through the tar. The octopus we see at the end of trailer 1 is what remained of Amelie on her Beach, which transformed into a creature that is better suited for such environment.
Okay, let's begin:
SOUL
So we all remember the last scene of DS1: Sam decides to free Lou out of her pod and tries to revive her when she seems unresponsive; We can see what looks like her spirit leaving her body. Sam holds her close and then Lou wakes up, holding Amelie's quipu in her hands. Five baby BTs look on during the whole scene.
I believe that Amelie has somehow attached her soul to Lou's or just straight up gave her her own- maybe "aged down" in some way, without her memories and experiences, not just straight up her soul as it was, I feel like that wouldn't fit with Kojima's "tone" of writing. The five baby BTs are the five previous extinction entities looking on at what Amelie's doing- we know that they can change shape, since they are humanoids on the Beach, despite not being ones in life.
As for Amelie's motivation, well, I believe that she wanted to live the life of a normal human girl. She makes it very clear that she is permanent and unchanging, stuck in time, while people around her like Sam get to grow old and age. If you've read the books, you'd know that Amelie/Bridget started to have her DOOMs dreams as a little girl, which means that her childhood was taken away from her very fast. And she loved humanity, so much that she wanted to mercy-kill it, which, in the way she sees the world, was an act of kindness. When she saw that Lou was on the brink of dying, she saw an opening- she gave her soul to save Lou. It creates an ethical dillema; Was Amelie selfless in what she did? She wanted to save Lou and give something to Sam, who she loved and wanted to be happy. On the other hand, she did it for her own benefit, in a way, to live out her fantasy and dream of being a human and getting to grow up among other humans. She has also altered Lou's very being without anyone's knowledge or consent, and without Sam knowing. She also knew that Sam was a kind, caring and loving guy, so her "child-self" will grow up being well taken care of.
This is why Higgs' "cult" is after Lou, but seemingly not after Sam and Fragile (if that scene is real, but let's assume that it is)- Lou holds Amelie's soul, so getting rid of her is a priority, while Sam and Fragile are there for the "boss" to take care of to reenact his desires of revenge.
But Lou's spirit, thanks to Amelie's being "entangled" with it, remains, seemingly bound to her BB pod. When Higgs takes off Lou's pod from Sam and he seemingly senses some kind of "life" in it, he seems suprised and almost impressed, like he was outsmarted.
When Sam asks "Was it you that killed Lou?" Higgs says "You still don't know, do you?", like Higgs thinks that Sam is deluding himself. Sam and Higgs are characters who probably know Amelie and what she's capable of the most of the entire cast, only Higgs is fully aware of how decieving and conniving she can be, while Sam seems to not be fully open about it to himself. Higgs knows that Amelie's soul is in Lou, while Sam might realize it deep in his mind, but doesn't want to admit to it to himself.
When Higgs says that "All that pain (Sam) nurses will only going to get worse" when Sam learns the truth about Lou, he means that he will find out that Amelie has lied to him again, she changed who Lou is and he's been raising essentially a different person for some time.
I can see Sam going through an arc of not knowing how he feels about Lou, maybe even feeling some resentment towards her through Amelie, but he'll ultimately accept Lou for who she is- I feel like Sam would never reject Lou, no matter what. I can see him going through a character arc similar to Harry Mason from Silent Hill (which would maybe be a roundabout Silent Hills reference?).
Both Amelie and Lou are also symbolised by angel imagery or themes- Higgs calls Amelie "a sweet little angel on death" in DS1, and Lou has been consistently potrayed with angel wings in DS2 trailers. Amelie is the red angel of death, while Lou is the blue-ish angel of protection, proving that they are related characters, but are, in a way, mirrored.
2. BODY
Elle Fanning's character, who I will call Chrystalis, is Amelie's body that fell into the Seam and was "spat out" by the tar into the world of the living.
We see Chrystalis in a well, chrystalis. A chrystalis is specifically a cocoon used by developing moths and butterflies. As we know, caterpillars are known to liquify in their cocoon in order to go through a transformation; I think that Amelie's body (or a part of it) was encased in a cocoon and liquified- in order to develop into something different. She looks different than Amelie because some "genes" got reshuffled in the process, or the tar wasn't able to recreate Amelie perfectly from a single body part.
The Chrystalis doesn't know who she is because she doesn't have a soul, which is within Lou.
We also see her body being pulled up on that one shot with the table because the EEs want to pull her up where she belongs- since they are the only established characters that we see "in the sky" or "up". They can sense that the Chrystalis is Amelie, but they can't sense that she is just a "piece" of her, and not a complete EE.
I don't have that much to say (yet) about the Chrystalis, since we don't have much info on her.
3. WHAT REMAINS
Okay, so we've got the soul and the body- what else is there?
Do you remember the octopus arms inside the BB pod at the end of trailer 1?
Well, it's also Amelie. In a way.
The octopus/tentacles represent what remained of Amelie after giving away her soul and tossing away her body. The octopus is something like her EE essence, her primal force made real. She dwells in the Seam now, adapted to the conditions of a being who has no need of venturing onto land again.
It's hard to say how much the octopus remembers or knows about who it was; I can see it attacking the Magellan a'la kraken, not realizing that it's Sam and two pieces of her in there, but I can also see it retaining some of Amelie's memories and feelings.
As for other proof, I don't have much- both Amelie and the octopus are associated with red.
An octopus is also the the logo of the Magellan, and as we know, their goal is spreading the chiral network onto another continent- octopuses have been used in propaganda to symbolize far-reaching power, which I think might relate to BRIDGES' desire to get more people onto the network. The chiral network was also Amelie's dream, so the fact that it's spreading further on might relate to her new octopus form.
I think that the myth of Akkorokamui from the Ainu (an ethnic group indigenous to Japan) mythology is worth mentioning: According to one version (quoting wikipedia) Akkorokamui was once a gigantic spider named Yaushikep who lived in the mountains nearby a village named Rebunge. One day, Yaushikep descended down to Rebunge and caused havoc. Fearing for their lives, the villagers prayed to the gods to save them. Their prayers were answered by the sea god Repun Kamuy, who pulled Yaushikep into Uchiura Bay. It is said that Yaushikep turned into a giant octopus who took over the bay as its god and since then, he has been known by the villagers as At-kor-kamuy or Akkorokamui.
BRIDGES in the first game is represented by spiders and spiderwebs. DS pulls from many different mythologies of course, so an inclusion of an Ainu myth wouldn't suprise me. Perhaps it might parellel how Amelie saw how much pain she and her organisation caused, so she chose to give her soul to Lou and leave her body behind to transform into an octopus that now rules over the Seam and can't hurt anyone anymore, since the Seam only has its own native wildlife in there, no humans.
CONCLUSION
I know that this theory is a lot, but I really think that at least some pieces of it might make it into the game. I have no doubts that Amelie is still heavily involved in some way, even if she isn't "alive", so to speak. Kojima does love a good story of "larger than life figure dies and now we have to struggle with the fallout".
I think that Higgs might ultimately want to find a way to put Lou's soul, Chrystalis' body and the octopus together to "revive" Amelie and cause the final extinction- we see by his attire that he clearly wants to immitate Amelie, so him wanting to finally kill her to get his revenge and take over in her steed seems plausible. Higgs was also stuck on the Beach back then, so he might've witnessed Amelie giving her soul to Lou and hatching his plan then. It's kinda funny, really- he tries so hard to be Amelie, while the three parts of her have no idea who they are.
A lot of people seem to think that DS2 will be a sort of deconstruction of DS1 like MGS2 was to MGS, and yeah, I can see that.
A big theme of MGS2, one of a few, was identity, especially one that we construct for ourselves. DS2 seems to hint towards it too- Fragile being "Fragile in name only", which can mean a few things, BRIDGES establishing DRAWBRIDGE to continue the spread of the chiral network, Higgs cosplaying Amelie, Sam having to take on his identity as a porter once more etc. All of the new characters seem to deliberately not have names revealed, letting the players theorize about them and sort of give them the identity they want them to have.
I think that this theory continues this theme- Sam will learn to love Lou no matter who she is, Chrystalis will develop her own personality on her own terms and figure out who she is and wants to be, while the octopus will either remember who she was or live in blissful ignorance as a giant octopus.
The game's subtitle, "on the beach", seems to be hinting towards Amelie's involvment too- after all, she dwells on the Beach now, and said to Sam that this is where she will be waiting for him this time too. This subtitle will likely have multiple meanings once the game comes out, but I can only connect it with Amelie as of now.
"Should we have connected?" once again, will have multiple meanings once the game comes out, but I can see it relating to Sam's and Amelie's connection- if not for that, she wouldn't give her soul to Lou to "be" with Sam, not threatning Lou's life because of it, and probably avoiding whatever calamity is about to happen in the DS2's story.
Thank you all for reading!

so i just finished utena and it rewired my brain, as it does, and as i was watching i noticed some things:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i tweeted about this, but like. i already knew enough to have the impression before watching the series that there was probably a comparison to be drawn between maruki and akio but i can't get over the fact that the exterior shot of his palace looks like they just combined the staircase around the elevator to the dueling arena and akio's planetarium (which are really one and the same already) into one thing
and the whole nature of the planetarium, and what that reveals—that akio was always being dishonest about his work, that the planetarium wasn't about the stars as he claimed to endear himself to utena (and as it holds meaning to anthy, who says she wants to stay in the planetarium rather than see the stars outside in the real world) but about projecting the "fairy-tale illusions" to control the people within his walled garden—the same could be said about maruki's laboratory, and what's revealed about him. using cognitive psience to treat trauma was always a minor part of his goal. for a very long time—back to before he even first awakened his powers and used them on rumi—he wanted more than that, to preemptively control people deemed likely to commit crimes. controlling the cognition of all humanity was his expressed goal—a mission he thought he was chosen for by a god—before he had any idea that the phantom thieves would inadvertently grant him that much power. he can't even deny it when akechi accuses him of brainwashing sumire for his own self-satisfcation, merely argues that the ends justify the means if his reality is better for everyone. the "treatment" of sumi's specific trauma by destroying her real identity (and her being driven to such desperation that she'd attack the person she loves to stay in the false reality rather than face the truth) is just a byproduct, an experiment toward a greater end that places him in a position of godhood, of ultimate power to change the world in his image. to create his own garden of eden.
like, fuck, this certainly sounds familiar:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
even on a more surface level—a member of the school faculty who's in the position with an ulterior motive, who the female students find extremely attractive (seriously, it's wild how often NPCs comment on maruki's looks or having feelings for him throughout his entire tenure at shujin—one even remarks on how good he looks in white.) a seemingly benevolent character who has a pre-established relationship with a young girl who's both the greatest victim of his schemes and violently devoted to protecting the fantasy he's created, who singles out the protagonist and bonds with them over time far more closely than would be appropriate for their positions, who uses that bond to try and achieve the power to change the world, only for the protagonist to refuse every temptation and take that power back...
and even looking at other symbols—in utena's duel with kanae, akio's fiancée (and the reason for him being in his position at ohtori,) she's surrounded by bouquets of white lilies that are identical to the one ella carries:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
while in kanae's final appearance, she's shown catatonic as akio and anthy feed her apples—
Tumblr media Tumblr media
—and apples are something that come up in relation to maruki constantly, whether the obvious presence of them as the fruit of eden in his palace (up yet another spiral staircase that resembles the path to the dueling arena):
Tumblr media
or more prominently in the final boss fight:
Tumblr media
or in his character art:
Tumblr media
or references in various scenes, like in this bit of foreshadowing about making ryuji's "wish" come true:
Tumblr media
or at more length with sumire:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and as the apples in utena can be compared both to the forbidden fruit of eden and the poison apple eaten by snow white, sumire, like kanae, is seen rendered unconscious (in a throne befitting a princess) in maruki's palace:
Tumblr media
and despite her more obvious connection to cinderella via her persona, she has a weapon referencing snow white:
Tumblr media
akio's obviously a much more overtly sinister character, as well an openly predatory one (which, to be clear, i definitely do not think is a supported read of maruki's actions in canon—manipulative, dishonest and terrible with setting appropriate boundaries with his teenage patients yes, acting with any legitimately predatory designs on anyone no) but the similarities are still striking to the point that they seem like they could be intentional, and i just wanted to try and get the coherent thoughts i had on all of this down in one place
and it is known both from statements from the guidebook interviews and from early content left in the final build of the game that significant amounts of maruki's story and palace were changed very late into development with the intention of making him more sympathetic and his deal more tempting, so i do wonder if this connection might have been even more clear in an earlier iteration of royal's story (though given they did have concerns about making him sympathetic from the outset, i don't think it's likely he was ever intended to be as clearly villainous as akio)

Nutcracker AU
In the Victorian Era, Charlotte is a twelve year old girl with a love of fairy tales, magic, and dance. She dreams of one day becoming a professional ballerina but is very shy and insecure about her strengths, so she doesn’t allow her true talent to shine very much. Not helping is also the fact that her parents insist on her looking into finding a more practical career and they intend to send her off to a very strict boarding school after the holidays.
On the night of her last Christmas in the household, there is a grand party in which Charlotte is visited by her beloved and eccentric godparents Husk and Rosie. Husk is a world renowned magician while Rosie is a famed stage actress, the couple have spent years traveling the world to present their talents and unlike Charlotte’s parents, they encourage Charlotte’s dreams with their many tales of adventure.
When Husk is performing a trick, a nutcracker falls from his sleeve and while the other children find the wooden doll ugly, Charlotte thinks he’s cute. The other start to play roughly with the nutcracker and accidentally break it. Charlotte in turn, fixes the nutcracker and treats him very gently. She then asks Husk if she can have him but he tells her that she couldn’t possibly want the doll because he’s so ugly. Charlotte however sees nothing wrong with him.
This impresses Rosie, who proceeds to tell Charlotte a story about the nutcracker. She tells her that about a year ago, in the Kingdom of Sweets, the wretched mouse queen had ordered the kingdom’s princess to marry her despicable son Vox. However, the King refused and as punishment, the mouse queen cursed the princess to look like a hideous mouse until the King consented to the marriage. The then king sought the help of every sorcerer in the land but only the royal magician knew the answer. To free the princess and destroy the mouse queen, someone must crack the shell of darkness which is the source of her power.
The king sends many soldiers on the mission to fight the mouse queen and to crack the shell of darkness, but they all fail and end up turned into toys because none of them knew what the shell of darkness looks like. However the magician’s young nephew Alastor figures out that the shell of darkness is actually a krakatuk nut that the queen always keeps on her person. The king begs him to face the mouse queen and promises the boy, Princess Mimzy’s hand in marriage should he succeed.
Alastor tricks the mouse queen into exposing herself to him and unprotected by her guards and manages to snatch the nut and crack it. The curse is on the princess and all the princes are broken and the mouse queen dies, but with her last breath, she utters a curse that turns Alastor into a nutcracker and her son Vox escapes, swearing to one day avenge his mother.
Charlotte’s father overheard the story and angrily berates Husk and Rosie for encouraging Charlotte to believe in childish fantasies, demanding that the time has come for her to grow up and leave dreams and fairy tales behind. Charlotte runs away to cry, her godparents come in to say goodnight, and give her the nutcracker doll as a gift. Charlotte thanks them and assured them that she’ll never grow up or tire of their stories. But Rosie wisely advises her that growing up is unavoidable and that her parents are right that she needs to leave some childhood dreams behind. Some, not all.
Later that night, Charlotte wakes up to find mice stealing her nutcracker. She chases them into the drawing room and stops them. Suddenly the grandfather clock chimes and Charlotte finds herself shirking and at the same time, changing into a beautiful young woman.
The Mouse King Vox then appears, announcing his desire to destroy the nutcracker for revenge, and becoming rather taken with Charlotte’s beauty, deciding that she would make a perfect replacement bride in place of Princess Mimzy. However before he can claim Charlotte, the nutcracker comes to life and defends her. But there are too many mice and they almost over power him, until Charlotte knocks out Vox by throwing her slipper at him forcing the rodents to retreat down a hole.
Once the fight ends, the nutcracker finally notices his change in appearance and his both horrified and confused, revealing to Charlotte that her godmother’s story is actually true and that the nutcracker was in fact once a boy called Alastor. Both Charlotte and Alastor don’t have the slightest idea of what’s happening but seek answers when a mysterious small door appears on the old grandfather clock.
Going inside the clock they travel up a stairway into the domain of the Clock-Maker (who resembles Husk). He tells the two of them that since the defeat of the mouse queen, her vengeful son Vox had become the new ruler of the mice and learned how to use her dark power to takeover the Kingdom of Sweets. The former king had fled to the sheltered city with his daughter, which is guarded by a wall.
When Charlotte asks if anything can be done, he says that their only hope is love. Alastor and Charlotte  conclude that if Princess Mimzy honors the promise to marry Alastor then the all will be restored. Meaning Alastor will regain his true form, and Charlotte will regain her true size and age. The two are then given a map to the Sheltered City and to get there they must travel through the Snowflake Forest and The Valley of Flowers.
During the trip Charlotte and Alastor encounter the victims of  Vox’s magic, inhabitants who were turned into toys and then subjected to the mice cruelly tormenting and breaking them. Charlotte and Alastor can’t help but stop and fix all the broken toys. Among them is Vagatha a flower fairy and Anthony a snow fairy who were turned into dolls, and end up accompanying the two on their journey. When the toys learn who Alastor is, they praise him as their long awaited hero but Charlotte notices that these praises make Alastor uncomfortable.
When they’re alone, Alastor admits that he’s not sure if he can actually defeat Vox and that he never wanted to be a hero or marry a princess. He was only a child when he discovered how to crack that nut and it was discovered on whim. He only agreed to try to crack the nut because he felt sorry for Mimzy and even though he succeeded, he still ended up getting turned into a wooden doll. Charlotte understands his fear and voices her own fears on growing up and being sent away to boarding school. This leads Alastor and Charlotte to share a romantic dance in the snow, falling in love.
The dance is observed by a jealous Vox, who captures their friends the next day along with many other subjects, and threatens to have his mouse army chew them to bits unless Charlotte and Alastor surrender to him. They continue on to the Sheltered City where they plead to the former king and the princess for help. But the king cowardly refuses and Mimzy cruelly rejects Alastor, stating that she’s far too pretty to marry a homely doll. This hurts Alastor, Charlotte comforts him, and despite their fear, they decide to face Vox together.
Charlotte and Alastor go to the ruined Kingdom of Sweets and he challenges Vox to a duel. While they fight, Charlotte frees all of Vox’s prisoners and they fight back against the mice. The battle rages on, but the mice eventually start chewing the toys and rendering them powerless. Vox has Alastor cornered and hanging over a bonfire, intending to burn him. To save Alastor’s life, Charlotte agrees to marry Vox, but Alastor, unable to bear the thought of his true love being doomed to such a fate, throws himself into the bonfire. Charlotte then jumps after him, declaring out loud that she’ll save him and that she loves him.
As they fall, they embrace and try to shelter the other from the flames but instead of the two of them burning to death, they are caught and Vox is destroyed. Alastor then transforms into a handsome young man, all the toys return to their true forms, and the Kingdom of Sweets is restored. The Sugar Plum Fairy (who resembles Rosie) appears and she declares that Charlotte and Alastor’s love for each other is what broke the spell and as a reward, they will rule over all as Prince and Princess.
A banquet is held in the couple’s honor and once again, Charlotte and Alastor perform a romantic dance in which they profess their love for each other and wish to be together forever. They kiss and leave in sleigh ride to take them home but during the ride, Charlotte falls asleep in Alastor’s arms. When Charlotte wakes up she’s back home, is a little girl again, and her nutcracker is gone. When she can’t find him, she begins to cry. Her parents comfort her and her father apologizes for being so hard on her, saying she doesn’t have to go to boarding school and that some childhood dreams are worth holding on to. Charlotte is relieved, but assures her parents that she’s not afraid to grow up anymore.
Later they are invited to have dinner with Husk and Rosie, where Lucifer apologizes for his behavior and is forgiven. Charlotte then asks her godparents if they know where her nutcracker is, and they ask in turn, why would she care what happens to an ugly doll? She then declares that the nutcracker would never be ugly in her eyes and that she would always love him no matter what he looked like. Pleased with her answer, Husk and Rosie introduce her to their thirteen year old nephew whom Charlotte instantly recognizes as Alastor. He tells Charlotte that he returns her then asks her to grow up with him and marry him once they become adults. She accepts and they live Happily Ever After throughout their childhood and into their adulthood.

Hello! 🌙✨ Chiedo anch'io un po' un mix: Eowyn e Cassandra 👀
OMG you asked the two crushes!
Thank you *evil laugh*
Eowyn:
First impression: I was blown out as a child. Beside the look and the sleeves... Oh my god I remember the day I saw her, I wanted to be her so bad and dress like her and the JOY when she and Faramir, the other besties kissed! They were my first OTP and I remember I was so happy and started drawing stuff.
Impression now: Freaking epic. I reconsidered a little her crush over Aragorn as No lady YOU'RE A BABY LEAVE THE DILF ALONE. Still, she's one of the characters I like the most ever and the one I'll slam upon everyone uncautious enough to tell me to my face that Tolkien didn't know how to write women or was a maschilist. He was a man of his time, sure. Maschilist? No I don't think so. She's a complex character struggling with her place in the world and in a world that tries to define her. She is good and honourable... But still will carve her path with her bare hands if she must. And she did, and in the end did a lot, she fought to find the place she wanted and it paid off. Had Tolkien really been a maschilist, she wouldn't have slain the Witch King. In the end she chooses to settle down, yes, but on her own terms. At least, I read it like this. It's not staying because she's a woman and that's her place, it's staying because she tasted heroism, she did her part, the war is over and it still wasn't enough. But maybe finding people that understand her and don't try to tie her up... Maybe that's enough. "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose".
Favorite moment: "I am no man." Hands down the most epic moment in the saga can't beat that. Slay, girl.
Idea for a story: Seriously, ANYTHING with her. More of her relationship with Eomer and Theodred maybe? More Edoras pre-war and how Wormtongue crept his way in? I love Rohan as a concept so really anything with that I'll be down for.
Unpopular opinion: Is there an unpopular opinion of. I don't think there is, we're all Eowyn stans here are we. I'll maybe say that Eomer had an equal crush over Aragorn and BOTH of them were pining hard. ("Aragorn senpai look at me ridigin into battle! :D" cit. book!Eomer)(quoted as unpopular because I never saw it around that much)
Favorite relationship: *looks above* She and Faramir dealing with coping with failed expectations (their own or others') and finding softness together. Also every interactions she has with Theoden is gold, and her relationship with Merry is as well! Besties.
Favorite headcanon: This fic I read from @scyllas-revenge lives in my head rent free and it's just... The ultimate fluff.
Cassandra:
First impression: "Oh damn this dude got himself into serious troubles, I wouldn't go against that woman. Pretty tho.". I tried to romance her at first in Inquisition and was very sad when she turned Aisling down. (you can all mock her and her Templar kink, yes.)
Impression now: I love Cassandra and her flaws and contradictions. I love that she's basically made of granite, you won't move her with cannons... and yet, she's there, ready to think twice and change her mind accordingly. She's multi-faceted and honestly one of the funniest characters in Inquisition. I love strong women that have a soft side and she has definitely one.
Favorite moment: The cutscene in Trespasser. Years pass and yet she'll still be gullible to a good romance story told by her very favourite author.
Idea for a story: A modern AU where she is the one and only author writing in the Swords & Shields fandom. Varric reads every single one of her stories, at first it was to mock her and her inability to recognise a trash book, then he felt affectionate to this utter devotion. A Misery AU with her an Varric. (...thinking about it better, DA2 is really a Misery fantasy AU...) Beside that, something exploring the aftermath of her nasty comments over Elven religion if you bring her along in one specific mission. An elf inquisitor facing her on that and discussing it. I wrote part of this months ago oops.
Unpopular opinion: She'd make the worst Divine of the three and would suffer greatly in the role.
Favorite relationship: She and Varric. In any sauce and way and in tutti i luoghi e tutti i laghi.
Favorite headcanon: She's Varric and Hawke number 1 fangirl, she read the Tale of the Champion and begged to be sent to interrogate them. When she meets Hawke, she's internally screaming and won't wash the hand Hawke shook for the whole day.

// There has been a lot of anti-kabuto comments and stuff on the kabuto tag. And as a Kabuto roleplayer, what really upsets me the most is that the hate is not for even good reasons. From what I see, it’s equal to that of a kid’s grade school where you are bullied for your boring or unusual appearance and for shallow reasons.
Like they’re legit hating him for wearing glasses, and not being as charismatic and cool as Orochimaru.  But out of the two, one is that there’s no control over his genetics of wearing glasses.  But charisma is something that can be learned,
I don’t think people really understand that Kabuto himself is what you put in him, he reflects who he works for, he is told to act and behave according to the mission, and because he has a barely sense of self.  Any kind of improvements will always come off as awkward and not as impressive as his peers.  And because he has literally spied on the ENTIRE 5 NATIONS, he also has taken on so many identities and personalities that he had almost lost himself several times.  The perfect example would be that movie Spirited Away where a little girl named Chihiro almost lost her name after being called “Sin” for merely a few days.  Kabuto has been doing that FOR YEARS since he was a child and still managed to remember and keep his name!
And as for his backstory, while of course it doesn’t excuse that he should’ve been thrown in prison for the crimes he did. In the end, he was still a victim who was manipulated during his worst moments of his life and it’s seems intentional on Orochimaru’s part and it doesn’t seem to show that he’s apologetic about it. More like he’s “proud” that Kabuto has found his true self and that he’s not needed anymore despite the fact that HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING KABUTO LIKE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE!
A twisted version of a friend being proud of their friend for getting better.
Kabuto has ALWAYS been a good, hospitable, and kind person deep down. But again, because of the world they live in. He absolutely can’t let his emotions get in the way of the cruel world of Naruto.  The reasons why he’s a bully in the first place is because he was envious of people with kekki genkai and other special people who make a name for themselves.  And that shit is relatable to everyone who is lacking in something in their life! (Have you ever been envious of someone who was rich/popular/had a good family/married to a great person/happy? And don’t lie to yourself. )
As for being a hypocrite? Do you know who’s the BIGGEST HYPOCRITE was?
ITACHI FUCKING UCHIHA
They had the nerve to say that there are some things that having powers or abilities cannot change. And while it was sweet that Itachi wanted to help him see his worth, but it really doesn’t sound good coming from a gifted person like him. Since Itachi has absolute NO IDEA how Kabuto feels as Itachi carried on and USED his name and kekki genkai to solve his problems.
Imagine a rich and popular person telling you that you are good as you are and that there are things that money can’t buy and to be happy with what you have. But everyone knows damn well that having money and a good family name and reputation would improve and help you and your family and friends in more ways that the rich person doesn’t seem to understand or even thought about.
And last but certainly not least. Kabuto’s not “hot”? I can assume that whoever thinks that probably is the type to focus on the appearance. Kabuto’s appearance is simple and normal. Not this fantasy beautiful unreachable God that many of the fans often love to write fanfiction and fantasize about.   Kabuto literally looks like your neighbor that you could actually marry and have a happy normal life!  He’s not beautiful or outrageous looking because if he was too beautiful or loud, he wouldn’t be doing a good job as a spy as a spy is SUPPOSED to fit in and not stand out too much.  A fact that the Naruto series tends to ignore despite it being a show about NINJAS!    But yes, keep humping your Itachi and Madara body pillows. Especially when one has cancer, and is a chronic liar and the other is a sexist, abusive (obviously gay) bastard. Guess which one is which.
Whether you read this or not, here’s the truth.
Kabuto is perfect as his is with all of his good qualities and flaws, and he does not need you or anyone else to tell him otherwise. There’s a reason why there’s a saying, “Kings and Queens Don’t Compete and Waste Their Time With Hoes and Peasants.”
Also I would totally let him rail me in his sage mode form.

tagged by @chiropteracupola and @dxppercxdxver :3 time for you all to judge my taste in books!
rules: list ten books that have stayed with you in some way, don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard - they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.
putting this under a cut because I hate making long posts. the rules up there say "don't take but a few minutes and don't think too hard" but I don't know how to do Either of those things. this post is Long. you've been warned.
1. is, of course, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In A Ship Of Her Own Making by Cat Valente. It's a wonderful, clever story that absolutely ruined the way I view fantasy, devotion, and girlhood at a young age. It's beautiful and magical and devastating AND I LOVE IT!!!!
2. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. I post about this series all the time but I never really express how much it means to me? It's about a friendship that's so strong it defies all odds, it's about finding magic in the mundane, it's about being a weird little guy with anxiety who's trying to be braver.
3. The House in the Cerulean Sea and Under The Whispering Door by TJ Klune (they are tied). SORRY FOR THE BOOKTOK MOMENT LOL but these novels are about finding love at an older age in an unexpected place!!! about relishing little moments with people you care about in a world that's beautiful! and the way klune writes introspection really feels like how I Think. it's like a magnifying glass into my brain
4. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. another one I post a lot about that seems very out of left field considering the rest of the list! but it was recommended to me at a hard time by one of my closest friends, and the incredibly intelligent and thoughtful way it uses Words and Language to express both Horror and Humanity has had SO MUCH influence on how I want to write
5. Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White. This novel captures queer rage in a way that feels deeply personal and wildly cathartic, and the desperation and passion with which Benji views the world and the people he cares about feels the same. Also it helped me get over my fear of meat 👍hooray, meat!
6. Now this is getting hard. um. Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir <3 sorry to put a popular book again but listen. it's about humanity and how ugly and brutal and full of love we are. it's about being so painfully Normal and Alive in a world that's trying to keep what you love from you. It's about eating breakfast and petting a dog and swimming in the sea and it's UNAPOLOGETIC IN IT'S HONESTY. IT'S SO HEALING TO THE INNER CHILD TO SEE NONA LOVE SO FIERCELY
7. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. listen. it's not a great book. it's stereotype-y and gross and kind of boring but. when you're in fifth grade and very neurodivergent but trying very, very hard not to let yourself show it, reading about a girl who is proudly Weird and Impulsive and Kind and Creative is like finally getting to see what you could be if you were a little less afraid. she was a manic pixie dream girl but she was mine, y'know?
8. (at this point I'm getting up to look at my bookshelf)
Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. Again, hugely different from the rest of this list, but probably the book I read in high school that I felt was most worth my time. Stunning, earnest writing and a deeply human story. I could go on for probably an hour about how clever Ellison's imagery is, and how powerful a choice as small as leaving your protagonist nameless can be. If anything on this terrible list is required reading, it's this
9. similarly, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I read this book for school, but by choice, and I kind of hated it! Not gonna lie! But something about how batshit insane it is left a huge impression on me. While it's wildly unrealistic and often frustrating, there are little bits of earnest grief and uncomfortably close-to-home interactions that make it feel like it Could happen. The way it describes parent-child relationships makes me want to escape my mortal flesh due to feeling Too Seen.
IF YOU READ ALL OF THAT WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!!!!!! anyway @haijinks @neonphoenix @human-sweater-vest @lasaraleen @samwisegamwise I'd love to see your ten books but there is No Pressure :3 love u !
10. FINALLY THE END! FUCK YOU! PERCY JACKSON!!! it's so funny and clever and diverse and ACCURATE! twelve year olds are little shits who want desperately to run away from their parents and make friends and have adventures! it made my sense of humor what it is, it introduced me to a blonde female protagonist who was INTELLIGENT AND BRAVE (things I always thought I was but was afraid to be)!!!!! and, most importantly, my first thought upon receiving my adhd diagnosis a week ago (it's been about five years since I last read pjo), was "wow. I'm one step closer to being a half-blood".
EDIT: there are bonus books in the replies that my dumb brain forgot ab until rn if u wanna see :]

Cas with a C CH 1
Note: Before reading, please check the warnings for the story at Chapter Select
Tumblr media
Cassie Harrington was a normal girl. A nerd but relatively chill about it. One that would only let her somewhat normal hobbies come out and keep the rest hidden at home. Well until today.
Turns out her parents are jerks. She found out from her brother who instead of being off to college had to stay in the small town he was from, slowly earning up enough money to leave while also taking care of her. Of course, she took a job at Starcourt to help. While Steve slings ice cream in a sailor outfit Cassie organizes the books in the bookstore while helping entitled mothers find their clearly special and not generic romance books.
She rolls her eyes, and she sets up her special table in the back hidden away from the rest of the world. Once it is up, she is going to bully her brother into telling his children that it exists. Turns out the kids bothered her boss enough by asking about DND books individually that he thought it was a trend with the kids so he got a small and humble display of them and instructed Cassie to put it up in the fantasy section in the back with things such as Lord of the Rings.
As Cassie begins her magic on the display, making it as artful as she can based on what little information, she can remember from the kids’ ramblings. She uses book stands to prop up the books proudly and makes sure they look as cool as Dustin told her it was to him. As she investigates the bottom of her box she smiles as she takes out the book. The kids were talking to her about this one specifically. She can’t remember if they already have it or not, so she shrugs to herself and makes sure to put it aside for her locker so that no one tries to grab it.
“I never would have expected a Harrington to play.” She hears a male voice speak from the bookshelves behind her. She sighs as she gets up with the last of the books she needs to put on display, refusing to turn around.
“It isn’t for me Munson. Just some kids my brother babysits.”
“I didn’t know he babysits.”
“There is a lot you don’t know about us Eddie. We aren’t all just our stereotypes.” She says as she reaches down to grab the last stack of books effectively ending the conversation… or so she thought.
“Hmm, maybe but I have yet to see that.”
“Maybe because you haven’t thoughtfully looked at people. Who’s to say.” She says with a shrug as she finishes placing the last couple of books. When she turns around, she can finally see the boy known as Eddie as he comes over to look at the table.
He’s still in his typical outfit from school which she doesn’t know how he manages with the intense summer heat with his three different longer layers on. He ends up moving around the table as he looks at the contents and almost seems impressed.
“Who are these kids who taught you so much about this?” Cassie laughs to herself. More recruits for his Hellfire. Not like she minded it. In fact, while most members of the club could be seen as weird or freaks by the popular crowds, she only really saw them as glorified drama kids after meeting her brother’s kids.
“I can show you later when they come by considering I know what you are here about.” She says with a faint smile. “And since I am closing, I guess I can let you use the break room tonight… if you come with the proper bribes.” As Eddie begins to open his mouth Cassie cuts him off in a low tone. “I am not asking for drugs or alcohol. I unlike my brother am not a degenerate. I just want some candy and maybe to watch?” This is the first time she faltered a bit in her tone.
She has always wanted to watch a game. After she learned about it from Mike and Dustin and saw how excited Will was to read out of his books, she realized the level of lore this universe has, and she just wanted a peek at it. After all, how is that different from one of her favorite fictional stories? The only significant difference is this story will be told by the actions and planning of a bunch of high school boys, which in her opinion sounds fun due to the demented mind behind it.
Eddie studies her for a bit. While he was messing with her a few moments ago he didn’t look at her. While her glasses hid her brown eyes away from the world from his angle Eddie could get a real read on her from them. After a few moments, he relaxes a bit.
“Thank you, Harrington.”
“I have a name.” Eddie’s eyes then have a mischievous glint.
“You do. One which you happen to share with a DND antagonist in fact. If you are going to be watching, would you be willing to read a script for me?” At this Cassie’s eyes shine with excitement as she starts to mess with her curly hair with her fingers. If she wasn’t in front of a kind of stranger, she would have pumped her fist from her luck. She was thankful that the fantasy section of the store was hidden away from the rest of the world as she calls herself a bit.
“First session and I get a role? Sounds like fun.”
“Just please don’t let me regret it.” He seemed hopeful but still on guard as he said it.
“I’m not like that. You may not know it yet, but you will soon, I always wanted to be a theatre kid anyway. Now is there anything else I can help you with?” She says as she points to her name tag with ‘Cassie’ in big looping pink letters showing she works here she hides away the book and heads to help Eddie check out.
Since then, Eddie and Cassie have started developing an odd sort of friendship as the summer went along. Cassie would let Eddie stay in the halls behind the bookshop after hours having set up a table for them and would occasionally voice some characters for Eddie that he may not be able to voice. Eddie would, in turn, teach Cassie about the intense and vast world of DND… and give her rides home post-DND session due to her brother leaving her for her mystery meetups.
At the beginning of their little arrangement, Cassie was just planning on walking home after the sessions. It had been going well the first couple of weeks and she made it home safe. After all, it was Hawkins, and rarely anything happened in Hawkins… except for the Lab, Will, Barb…
She winces at her own dark thoughts as she uses the keys, she has been given to lock herself out of the bookstore and let herself out into the white stark hallways behind it. Other than the table which has been neatly put against the wall along with the chairs there is rarely anything except for the occasional pipe.
While she knows she is alone she feels a familiar cold creep over her. It starts in the base of her skull and the tingles start spreading out to the rest of her body. She starts to move forward. It is hard for her to tell if it is voluntary or not because she can’t differentiate her own thoughts and feelings from whatever is happening to her. She wants to leave. She wants to go home. She wants to stop on the way. It is better if she just goes home, especially with how late it is, but what is one quick stop?
Where should she go? Gas station? She is hungry. Hotel? So, she can call her brother to pick her up and get her out of the inky blackness of the night. Brimborn? Why would she want to go there? It seems like a cool spot to hang out and cause mischief. Maybe get her reputation back after her brother practically made her an unsung princess in the school.
She didn’t even process herself moving. She just ends up on a random road that she is walking down the side of. It is a main road, but due to how late it is she can’t see any cars. All she can do at this point is continue walking. Towards Brimborn. Why is she even going there anyway? That is her destination, but why?
As she ponders this, she cannot stop her body from moving forward towards its goal. It is like she is in automatic mode. Like her body is a robot and unless someone intervenes, she will continue.
In the distance, she sees a light. One which is heading in the opposite direction of her and slowly getting bigger. The noise of a car cuts through the silence and Cassie just continues walking. She can hear metal music blasting out of the car. Something more to focus on other than what is happening. The light gets brighter and brighter and brighter until she can’t see anymore and stops on the side of the road trying to regain her sight.
The car screams to a halt next to her and the hazards are quickly turned on. As she can see again her body tries to start walking forward but runs into a wall of flesh. One that starts to shake her a bit.
“Cassie? Cassie? You’re kinda scaring me right now.” A familiar male voice says. Cassie blinks once. Twice. Three times. By the fourth time, her eyes start to focus again.
“Huh?” Cassie looks around taking in where she is, on the wrong road a few miles down. She rubs the back of her neck which is warm again along with the rest of her body. She looks to the source of the voice to see Eddie illuminated by the van lights.
“Cassie, what are you doing here?”
“Trying to get home.”
“You don’t have a car?”
“No. Only Steve has one and he tends to work earlier shifts so he likes to get home and sleep early, or that’s what he had been telling me.” Eddie sighs in disbelief as he walks her over to the car.
“Get in.”
“What?”
“It is almost midnight, and you are walking next to basically a highway. Jesus, I thought Steve picked you up. I’m not leaving you here.” Eddie says in a slightly sharp tone as he opens the door and gestures for her to go inside. Cassie sighs and after a moment she crawls in.
The first thing she notices after the cold seat is the familiar smoke scent, she can’t put her finger on. The van is in a cluttered state having tapes everywhere on her side of the car. Behind her is some of Eddie’s DND stuff she notices a few music-related things set up that she had forgotten the name of.
“Apologies. Wasn’t expecting a passenger.” Eddie says as he looks around sheepishly.
“No. It looks lived in. Like not in a bad way, just that you care about it, but not for the looks.” Cassie still is fully coming back to reality, so her words seem confused. “Thank you for picking me up.”
“It’s no problem. Have you been doing this every time we play?”
“Yeah. Normally I am more successful at getting home. This time, however…” She pauses looking for the reason behind why she took this path. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Now I am worried about it.” Eddie sighs. “I already feel bad for having you stay late when you could be partying with your friends.” Cassie looks at him confused before connecting the dots and it looks like a lightbulb has gone off.
“Oh! Are you talking about the party that Steve’s friends are throwing? Yeah, I don’t do those.”
“But-“ Cassie gives him a pointed look and he puts his hands up in surrender. “Fair enough.” He then flicks off the hazards. “Let’s get you home.” He then starts driving again and after a few moments, he does a sudden U-turn and starts driving towards her house.
Eddie turns up the music and after a few moments, he looks like he is about to change the channel when Cassie reaches over and turns it up.
“May not be my cup of tea, but you are the driver. Own it.” Cassie then lightly drums her fingers on the dash as she looks out into the darkness around her. Eddie smiles as he adjusts the volume how he likes it.
“How the hell did I not find you sooner?”
“Huh?”
“You seem like a cool girl.”
“I’m hurt, Eddie. ‘Seem’?” She says giving her most convincing fake pout.
“If you stay like this in the school year, I’ll get rid of that seems.”
“Deal. Now let the music play Munson.”
The duo has a mini-concert in the van as they dance and sing as much as they can while being in a car. As they pass by Brimborn they miss the abandoned car nearby marking Billy Hargrove in the area. As they quickly make their way through, they also miss the scream that lets out into the night, making the voice owner’s pain known to those who listen.
Eventually, the duo makes it to her street and Cassie looks around in fear as she tells Eddie to slow down the car and cut the lights.
“What’s wrong?” Eddie looks around skittishly.
“Steve is up,” Cassie says as she points to her brother’s room to reveal the light on in his room.
“What do we do?”
“We don’t do anything. You leave the area without being seen and I’ll sneak in.” Eddie gives her a look of disbelief which she returns in kind with a nod.
“Jesus. Looks like I’ll have to weigh the pros and cons of having you as an assistant Dungeon Master.”
“Wait. You promoted me from willing accomplice to assistant? I’m touched. Eddie really does care.” She clutches her chest and fake swoons. Eddie rolls his eyes slightly as he ruffles her slightly wild hair. “Hey.” Cassie then opens the door and is out into the night.
She slowly stalks her way up the driveway and to the door where she gently rummages in her pockets to find her keys and unlocks the door as quietly as possible. When she shuts the door, she turns around to see Steve peek his head out.
“You’re home early.”
“I found a shortcut.” She then gives him a confused look. “Didn’t you want to go to bed? Shoo.” She says as she waves him away. He looks unimpressed as he goes and shuts the door to his room. She then walks up the stairs takes a right to her room and flicks on the light.
It is a room that clearly has not been updated since her first year of high school. It still has all the pretty pastels that she adored up until a few years ago. The best way to describe this room in her words would be if a princess’s bedroom got thrown up on by a unicorn. Thank goodness for the books because otherwise, she would’ve torn down the walls already. Her bed at least is redeeming in her eyes with a white metal headboard made to look like plant vines and the covers which are a nice lighter shade of purple.
She immediately goes over to her bed flops down onto it and looks to the ceiling. She gently brushes the back of her neck where the cold feeling started. As she does so, she hisses in pain as she feels an intense heat and pulls her fingers back. When she looks at them, they seem normal however causing her to look in confusion.
“What the hell is happening?” She asks herself as she stares up at the ceiling fan turning. As she stares at it, she sees black particles start to fan out from it and start to slowly shower her. She doesn’t move watching it all happen.
“Oh. It’s you.” It doesn’t respond but she can sense the frustration.
“Well, if you actually communicated with me like those other times, I may actually be able to do something to help you.” She has a bit of a bratty tone as she crosses her arms over each other. She feels the frustration grow and she sighs.
“Fine. I’m sorry. Is it something I can do tomorrow?” She can sense the answer. No.
“Sorry. I really am, but what you did kinda freaked my friend out. If you would just clearly communicate what you want and when I can help.” As she says this, she feels the heat turn to a chill as her eyes glaze over.
All that she is shown is Billy Hargrove. She stops herself from gagging at the sight of him after all the bullshit he put her brother through, but she then senses it. Something is off. Billy can’t see her. Of course, he can’t in whatever space she has been taking to, but then she sees his veins turn black and whatever is in his body can look at and see her. It just regards her with a cold and calculating attitude.
“I will come for you when the time is right.” The creature says in a detached voice.
“At least you scored a powerful body.” Theo creature looks unimpressed as it glances down at itself with cold indifference.
“This wasn’t the one I was promised.” At this danger, bells go off in her head.
“Ah well give it time and planning and it will work out there buddy.” She says giving the creature a pat on the shoulder. It seems shocked for a second as she does so but instantly relaxes.
“I am an all-powerful creature. It will be easy to catch my prey.”
“Sure there bud,” Cassie says as she moves around to be in front of the thing. “Just be careful. Whoever the fuck bested you up last time is still out there, right?” At this, it growls.
“Yes…” it hisses out.
“Well as much as I love to be in your company buddy you aren’t the best at talking yet, so I am going to let you learn from Billy and company how to do so. Have fun in the new body, but not too much.” Cassie says and suddenly she is whisked away and back on her bed looking up at the fan, the dust particles gone.
She quickly reaches under her bed. After feeling around blindly she feels the box she is looking for and pulls it out. It has a nice intricate design with an ominous note on the top. When she opens it, she immediately pulls out the journal it and starts writing in it until she feels satisfied with the contents. As she shuts the box, she sighs to herself reading over the note.
Open if I end up dead or missing or both. -CAS

okay i just rewatched the last two episodes of utena, which i think helped me collect my thoughts like... a tiny bit.
anyways i just wanted to get my feelings down really quick, aiming for the broad strokes with my impressions on things, blah blah blah. so big warning for utena spoilers under the cut
okay god so. first of all i loved it. extremely fun show. really cool and interesting. it's got that Older Anime Swag i can't get enough of. easily one of those things where, if i'd watched it when i was younger, it would've seriously restructured my entire brain chemistry. also probably would've realized i liked girls way sooner
there is. A LOT. worth talking about. i don't want to make a massively long post though. trying to be like, as straightforward as possible. not just because otherwise i'd talk forever, but also i honestly don't wanna get into the guts of things TOO much, when im still processing my personal feelings on it, plus i still gotta watch the movie
so i'll just say for now, to me, utena reads as like... something similar to a coming of age story, but not exactly. like a weird divergent cousin. i feel like a lot has to do with themes of like, trauma and how that stunts growth, one's inability to grow up beyond things that happened in our pasts, like death or failure, or even just the fact that you were at some point changed... or actualized, like, made to become aware of reality.
even moreso than growing up or adulthood, the idea of the Revolutionizing the World, which i think v deliberately at first sounds like 'change the world (in a broad, conceptual sense)' but this is something that is like... unattainable. impossible. eternity and miracles. perpetual purity, comfort, safety, a fantasy. even with the prince's sword, akio cannot open the gate. he cannot attain the power of eternity or miracles to become what he once was
if it cannot break its egg shell, a chick will die without being born. we are the chick and the world is our egg. if we cannot break the egg, we will die without being born. smash the world's shell for the revolution of the world.
a lot of my intense interest and confusion over the last third of the show was... character motivations. what did akio want? what was his goal in trying to bring utena to him, but to undermine her desire to become a prince? he wanted the sword of a prince but not for utena to wield it. he said something in the end about... how the power of revolution was too much for her, how it was up to him to decide what to do with it.
and a lot said about how she cant accomplish her goals 'because she's a girl'. she can't hold the sword, can't become the prince, can't save anthy, because she's a girl. and im not saying that's NOT a gender thing, like... obviously, in part. but i fought against that reading a little and came to the conclusion that it's not about being like, a girl as in female. it's about being a girl as in child, or rather, the same girl who wanted to stay inside that coffin, and who arguably never left.
that's a big theme brought up again and again, especially later on... living death, to remain in your coffin: the shell that is your world, and your resting place if you are never able to leave it. cowed by the truth of reality, of death and tragedy and loss and pain. so you stay inside the shell and are never really born. everyone at the school is inside of a coffin, both of their own making and in the grander scheme, because for them, the school is their world
and that's why it's so important that anthy leaves. akio is fighting to open the rose gate, to attain the power of revolution, but i don't think he was able to get it because revolution isn't really what he wants. he wants to go back, to live in the past, to be what he was instead of what he's chosen to be, which he can't fully confront, and so he is stuck and stays in his coffin, the planetarium, the school. living through this fantasy story over and over again but unable to ever break free because of the simple fact that like. he cannot see beyond himself, i guess. as opposed to anthy, who recognized that utena did achieve the power for revolution... by helping anthy out of her coffin. allowing anthy to finally be born...
that's a thing too... i think one of the main things that's really subtly brought up throughout the anime, is this idea of selfishness and being unable to see beyond your own perspective and vision and expectations of the world. and that means an inability to see others clearly. that was a huge thing for anthy and utena near the end. that scene where utena is holding anthy on the roof... and they confess to each other their true feelings (?); i don't know if that was dream or reality, but i believe it was the truth. anthy taking advantage of utena's inability to see beyond herself in order to lead her to this point, and utena's inability to recognize anthy's pain (or even, rather, her ability TO forget anthy's pain) for what it was, and that she really needed from her friend.
there's a weird element i haven't wrapped my head around yet... to do with anthy and her being a witch, the swords she takes for her brother/prince, and his willingness to say that it's what she chose for herself, so she (must?) enjoy being the witch who suffers. maybe it's part of his inability to grow... that he can't take responsibility for anthy's pain (and death?) entirely, though her sacrifice was for him... and it could be part of what had akio lose sight of things
the gate doesn't open for akio, who does not truly crave revolution, only a power he no longer has, and in his way he's gotten so muddled and has grown so (unconsciously?) defeatist about things that he's lost sight of what might have been driving him in the first place - love and a desire to save his sister
but utena, who sees anthy as a child and instantly feels all of her pain, recognizes it, maybe even as her own pain reflected back, weeps for a witch and the door opens for her. and the door is not a gate to power, it's a coffin, with anthy lying inside... waiting to die, or waiting for nothing at all... but-
oh ohhh oh... it's like... akio says something about like, without power you always have to depend on someone else? you can't do anything on your own? maybe a resentment for his tie to anthy even. but like. anthy could never break out of her shell without utena opening the coffin for her, and bringing in the light to help her see the sort of world that waited beyond. she says something like 'don't be afraid of this world where we can meet'...
in an attempt to wrap up, i guess for now i might say... utena is trying to say something about connecting to others, being open to life, but accepting that it includes pain and tragedy and loss. there are things that can and will prevent you from ever truly like... evolving beyond your first stage. becoming your true, entire self. alive, "adult", willing and able to confront the world (beyond your world)...
mm... yeah. i think writing this out has helped me figure out things just a bit. and obviously this is my own interpretation of things, but for now it's what feels right for me, alongside all the meanderings and musings.
gwahhg... movie time i guess. aaa!!!!!

Hey there! You said to message you about what we're reading, and I felt like chatting about that (hopefully you won't mind). I really love hearing your thoughts on various books.
I've been reading the Rokesby series by Julia Quinn (Bridgerton prequels) which I am really having fun with. I'm also reading The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig, Darling by K. Ancrum, Impossible by Nancy Werlin, The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams, The Bookshop of Yesterdays by Amy Meyerson, and An Unexpected Earl by Anna Harrington (second of a series called Lords of the Armory) As you can tell, I am really bad at picking just one book at a time!
What are you reading at the moment?
Tumblr media
Please come here to talk about books with me whenever. I promise absolutely never mind. And gosh, do you have a lot of things to talk about! I am impressed, honestly. I would never be able to keep all those plots and storylines straight!
I'm a strictly one-book-at-a-time kinda lady. Which is not great for the number of books on my Kindle, actually. Because I have this horrible habit of just downloading them, so I don't forget that I want to read them, and then I wind up with, like, 15 books on there, and I make Justin pick a number as to what I read next or give him a general idea of what the genre is and make him pick from that.
I am horrible at making decisions, you see.
As to what I've been reading recently, I've been a bit all over the place. I mean, there's been kissing in.... all of them, but the type of kissing varies. Some of my recent ones ,though:
the last in a series where someone on this football team falls in love with some quirky™ girl, and the sports descriptions are only kind of incorrect
a historical romance that was truly TOP TIER where the main characters used to flirt in their first season, but then she got married because her father was going to die and he wanted her protected™ but the guy was an unfeeling, uninterested jerk and then he died and now his sister is threatening to take her children away and so she needs to prove there's a responsible male presence in the home, so she and her lawyer!brother devise a scheme to fake an engagement, and who is the perfect candidate for this fake arrangement than her former flirting partner who is now a decided rake and in need of funds???
a set of short stories set in the daevabad verse, which is a fantasy trilogy i read last year and LOVED, but it is INTENSE and the world building is vast and i'm still not sure i understood the first book at all, but the stories were gorgeous and some of them made me cry
the sequel to a modern-day supernatural book that has witches and demons and werewolves and everyone falls in love and i liked the first one way more
another sequel, but this one is part of a series that's a spinoff of a different series and is focused on this one candian family and they own a ranch and everyone is decidedly emotionally stunted and needs heaps of therapy but they fall in love really well and kiss even better and the last one was my favorite because they were idiots! and pining for years! and the dude played hockey
If you can't tell, I've been traveling a lot. And spending a lot of time on team buses. And planes. And, so, I read. When I'm not making more Instagram reels.

hi for the love of god hello 😩 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, aaaand 15 for the chrysi caraval universe questions? (feel free to just pick whichever ones you wanna answer most if you don’t wanna do them all :3)
2. when in canon does your self insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance?
she comes in before everything <333 she is the catalyst for allllll of jacks’s baggage. and anyway, she shows up post-finale like ohhh. yeah. sorry abt that guys. i’m the one that gave him the cursed kiss and everything <333 teehee!!
the actual scene i have in mind (well, i have two—the first is a fake-out, where scarlett doesn’t know that the girl she’s been looking for is the girl that she’s currently talking to—chrysi calls herself di, so i understand the confusion) is at some sort of gala/trap for eris, where scarlett and julian and jacks are locked in there w chrysi and azure. chrysi’s like oh!!! hey honey!!!!!!! now if you’ll excuse me, my husband is taking care of our reincarnation curse.
3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self insert?
they all think she’s soooo cool and also soooooo fucked up. they all come to her for advice and are always surprised by the fact that chrysi’s advice involves murder, curses, or curse-murders. why would you expect otherwise? also, everyone comes to a consensus that she’s hot and they want to impress her rlly rlly badly.
4. would you be considered a main character, side character, villain, or something else?
she’s the main quest prize in my version of a spin-off (first book), then…. the protagonist, but not the main character, according to my quick double check of lit rules. shes the main reason the plot progresses, on account of her then trying to break the reincarnation curse (book two), then settling for getting azure back so they can have a few more years of happiness before tragedy hits. sometimes i swap those last two bits, but ultimately, she’s THEE point of the whole story. even in canon. jacks’s main motivation 😘
5. does your self insert have any special powers or abilities?
indeed!! she has her witchy set, which is ghost/death related, w some necromancy straight up thrown in, then her half-star set, which includes creating fates, and control via fear (she WAS supposed to be in charge of fear AND love, but when she created jacks, she accidentally cleaved her power in two… he has been fashioned into her soulmate on accident… sorry… (he does NOT care. is he allowed to kiss her now??))
11. what kind of outfit(s) does your self insert wear?
i have so many silhouettes that i’d want to hit with my fantasy world beam, purely so i can (apparently) have chrysi scandalize the whole caraval universe. the whole time, a girl didn’t wear pants. not ONCE.
chrysi shows up in this and it’s all over for them:
Tumblr media
for every day, she’d mostly wear something like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
then an actual dress, you know her. she’s wearing this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
12. how would the fandom view your character?
i think people would hate her, cause of how murdery and mean she can be. and also bc she’d take jacks from the others & nobody can face the reality that jacks would want a bitch to keep him in his place. god forbid girls have personalities outside of being innocent girls!!

Tumblr media
Appearance
Heloise is a tall and slim girl with short, flaxen hair. She has a generous smattering of freckles across her face as well as on most of her body. She's long been self conscious of her height, particularly her long, lanky limbs which she considers ungraceful.
She favors clothing that's comfortable and easy to move around in. She's comfortable wearing both pants and skirts.
Tumblr media
Personality
Heloise is a shy but kind-hearted girl. Having grown up with highly critical parents, she's often wary of making bad impressions so tends to behave in an agreeable and polite manner. Often anxious, she usually defers to others around her and declines to speak her mind. The exception is her strong belief in standing up for the weak, she won't stand for bullying or injustice, even if she might later regret getting involved.
Tumblr media
Signature Spell
Her signature spell is "The Echo" (超える力). When cast, it allows her to perceive other's movements slightly ahead of time, making it easier to dodge attacks and strike. (She sees the big orange aoe circles on the ground and simply moves out of them lol)
It seems to also be able to grant brief glimpses of a person, place, or item's past, but she has little to no control over when this happens.
Background
Wokin on it
Notable Relationships
Mirabelle Hourlinet [(Former) Best Friend]: The two of them met in elementary school and became inseparable. Mirabelle has the more assertive personality so Heloise would often rely on her encouragement to help her speak up for herself. Due to their falling out in their senior year of high school, they haven't spoken in almost a year and she misses her dearly. She's unaware of Mirabelle's fate and the fact that she also found her way to Twisted Wonderland.
Oscar Citrinitas [Boyfriend]: He pretty much swept her off her feet the moment they met. She admires his passion, bravery, and cheerful, outgoing nature. The two of them can often be seen together between classes. She's really shy about pda but loves holding his hand when they walk together!!
Neige LeBlanche [Friend]: They met when he overheard her singing and complimented her. The two chatted away about their favorite music and became fast friends. Of course, someone eventually informed her that he's a mega celebrity and she was worried she might be too anxious to hang out with him anymore. Fortunately, Neige is so laid back that she still feels like she can be comfortable and casual around him.
Trivia
She likes to play songs from her world on the piano for her classmates. Chenya says she should have just said she wrote them but she's too modest to lie like that.
Neige really wanted her involved with SDC/VDC, she helped arrange the song for his performance. He wants to write original songs together too but Heloise is a bit worried that they won't be to the standards his fans expect.
She used to be really into cosplay and would hand make her own costumes.
She loves reptiles, particularly snakes
