Headcanon #134:

Mind has a bunch of plants & flowers that he takes care of insanely well. A solid chunk of its room and the house itself has its plants just scattered about.

Heart has a couple as well and they're pretty good at taking care of them. He has a few succulents in his room + some herbs & spices he uses for cooking.

Soul has like...one small cactus & a spider plant that is constantly on the edge of death. Bro can NOT keep a plant alive no matter how hard he tries.

I am perfectly normal about the Psychonauts timeline

Spoiler warning for...everything.

As I was playing Psychonauts 2, I had a vibe that Ford and the Psychic Seven were active during the late 1920s, early 1930s, mostly because of the Model T Ford in Cruller's Correspondence, but also because of the biplane in the diorama of Ford fighting Maligula from Fatherland Follies. But there were some issues with that - namely the Feel Mobile which resembles more a model of van released around 1964. I feel compelled to mention it looks like the Motherlobe is trapped in the 70s, technology-wise.

So I looked up the timeline on the Psychonauts fandom wiki, as well as the blurb from Psychonauts about the history of Whispering Rock. And while clicking through the wiki, I found a copy of the Li-Po document, which contains the following line:

[...] when [Ford Cruller] was [...] away fighting for the Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War [...]

Firstly, based.

Secondly, that means Ford had to be at least 16* by 1937 (when American volunteers were sent to Spain). At least if we are to believe that this...very specific part of the Li-Po document is still canon. Which...I mean, we could. We know Ford was already an adult when he assembled the Psychic Seven, but we don't know how old he was. From the looks of him in the mental vaults and illustrations, he was definitely older than 16 (considering the full moustache). Meaning that it is possible Ford spent his younger years fighting in the Lincoln Brigade, then when he matured started looking more into his and others' psychic powers.

Possible? Yes. Plausible? Ehhh...considering the story of Psychonauts 2 is deeply tied to the trauma the Psychic Seven endured surrounding the Grulovian Civil War then the Deluge of Grulovia, I doubt that Ford's previous involvement in a very bloody battalion (22.5% of Lincoln Battalion fighters died in the Spanish Civil War) would have gone unmentioned. Since it makes no appearance in Psychonauts 2, I think it's safe to say it's no longer canon.

So where does that leave us? With the only statement from the devs (specifically Tim Schafer himself) that points us towards a date for the game's events:

"We think of it as taking place in the 80's but not necessarily the 80's, in case we need a piece of technology that we're stealing from the 90's."

So...that leaves us with a year range of 1980 to 1999. However, if technology is an issue (specifically, taking place during the 80s but needing some tech from the 90s), that means the game probably takes place in the late 80s, early 90s. I interpret this as being between 1987 and 1993. So, we've narrowed it down! Based on my arbitrary definition of "late" and "early"!**

Is there any way to narrow it down further? Unfortunately, not from what I can find - the tech we see in the Motherlobe is more reminiscent of the 60s and 70s (the computers we see on peoples' desks and in Sasha's lab look akin to a Xerox Alto, which came out in 1973), and I don't know enough about the history of other technology we see in-game to infer information about the timeline. If someone else has knowledge about things I may have missed that point us towards a date, please reblog and let me know!

Now, before I get into what I see as the timeline, I do want to address Maloof's line when you release him from the GPC.

"Nah, the staff hasn't put any kids in the GPC since the fifties."

Which goes against the timeline written on the log in the parking lot (which states that Whispering Rock Summer Camp was only created 5 years ago). I'm leaning more toward the written lore, since it's entirely possible Maloof is misinformed. After all, this is his first time at the camp. It's entirely possible Bobby (or another camper) has been lying to Maloof about the history of the staff's use of the GPC. For this reason, I'm disregarding this conflicting bit of evidence.

So! On to the actual timeline - at least, what I think it is. Starting from the beginning and working our way to the present day. I will represent the dates as a range, so "1987 - 1993" means "between 1987 and 1993." It doesn't mean that whatever event took place took that long, just that it happened at some point within that range. Good? Good! Let's go.

Brick's Speculative Psychonauts Timeline

1487 - 1493: A psitanium meteor strikes the area that will eventually be known as Whispering Rock, leaving behind a psitanium deposit.

1787 - 1793: A local indigenous group starts working with the psitanium, creating the arrowheads found in the first game, and names the area Whispering Rock (just, in their language, not English)

1887 - 1893: The mining town of Shaky Claim is established as part of the gold rush, except they're mining for psitanium. The psitanium deposit severely worsens the mental health of the people there.

1888 - 1894: The first case of 'Paranormal Hysteria' diagnosed in Shaky Claim.

1912 - 1918: Houston Thorney constructs Thorney Towers Home for the Disturbed. Ford Cruller is born.

1927 - 1933: Houston Thorney commits suicide. The town's population is less than the amount of patients in Thorney Towers.

1932 - 1938: Thorney Towers Home for the Disturbed is closed but some patients still remain. The remaining residents of the valley leave and the area is flooded, resulting in Lake Oblongata.

1967 - 1973: The Psychic Six fight Maligula. Grulovia is flooded then trapped below the frozen floodwaters. Helmut Fullbear is presumed dead. Shortly thereafter, Ford uses the Astralathe to modify the memories of Lucretia and Augustus, then to break his own mind.

1982 - 1988: Whispering Rock Summer Camp is established.

1987 - 1993: The events of Psychonauts, Psychonauts: The Rhombus of Ruin, and Psychonauts 2 take place all within about a week (and that's being generous).

So there! That's what I think the timeline is. Again, if you have any feedback or want to point out something I missed, please let me know! I'm new to the games/lore/fandom so 'tis entirely possible!

The implications of this timeline are...interesting. The fact that during the fight with Maligula, something that was supported by multiple countries, they're using planes from the 1910s when it's at least 1967...the world of the Psychonauts isn't less technologically advanced - they have a jet that rivals ones from 2024! So I have no clue what that biplane is doing in Gristol's memory of the fight with Maligula. Unless we consider Gristol an unreliable narrator for that detail - but even then I'm unsure why he wouldn't have assumed they were using modern technology...? IDK. It's weird.

Don't you guys think it's fucked up when Fiona starts dating and sleeping out of the house, leaving Debbie, Carl and Liam kind of for themselves?

Once she started dating Mike she would sleep at his place sometimes which I think it's okay, she was paying the bills and would leave dinner ready and communicate Debs and she was still looking out for them, they had health care and she took them to the clinic and all that. She needs to take care of her, live a life, sleep at her boyfriend sometimes, that's fine and healthy. But then she marry Gus and is often out of there, get together with Sean and doesn't even know what's going on with them anymore (aka "why there's nothing to eat in the fridge" "cause no one is doing the shopping" dialogue with Debbie, not knowing when it's their first day at school, letting Sammy move in and run things after her trailer got fucked by Frank), and then she gets her apartment and moves out completely and like, okay, Ian was a EMT, Lip is a mechanic already I think, she did said she wasn't going to support Debbie after her pregnancy (fucked me thinks), Carl's at military school, but Liam is still a kid! And Debs and Carl are still underage! And they are her responsibility.

It just doesn't sit right with me that Liam didn't at least moved with her.

He is sure this is a prank they came up to make him lose his temper, but he will not fall this time, he caught the prank.

Rhea doesn't know herself what "breasting boobily" means, but she remembers having read this sentence once, maybe it's a new way of walking down the stairs humans invented? She would have a better chance asking Professor Manuela.

Not wanting to appear out of the loop and actually wishing to keep up with modern slang - because even she doesn't know what this thing means - Manu nervously laughs, and tells Flayn this is a slang someone more familiar with Enbarr than she is, since she has been working here for the last few years, might help her with.

Not deterred in the least (finally a chance to catch up with how modern young people talk!), Flayn rushes to Doro, who was attending Supreme Leader's opening speech for the Adrestian Empire's Founding Day.

Just when she was finishing the part of Adrestia's glorious history and Emperor Wilhelm's War of Heroes that ended on the unification of the Continent - Flayn bursted out and asked very excitedly "Dorothea, since you are more attuned to Modern Adrestian language and Enbarr's customs, what "breasting boobily" means?".

Dorothea wanted to explain how this most likely refered to a way of walking that emphasies the chest area used to seduce people, but Supreme Leader glared at them so hard that she wondered if they did anything wrong, it's not like Eddie was actually expecting them to listen to her speech, right?

You know what, I'm in a weird spot with that FNAF movie.

I don't think it was very good ! As a horror movie, it made me laugh because especially towards the end the mystery and atmosphere vanished to get Fazbear Franchise Points. Like. Not laugh in the way horror can make you startle-laugh, or laugh so self-soothe. In a way that is "oh god, I see what they wanted to do, and they failed, and this is so endearing, and also so funny".

But...

I enjoyed myself immensely. It had some really cool ideas, and i love love love the visuals. I'd recommend watching it, even.

I like despite how the writing feels flimsy, cardboardy at times, Mike felt real and is very consistent throughout the movie.

I like despite how that movie is trying to tell 4 different stories, not all of them horror, just weirdly breaking up narratively in ways that don't really make sense, it's trying to tell all of them with love and care for the characters.

I love how it's not a soulless cash grab adaptation, and how I can overlook the writing flaws and the one cameo and enjoy it because damn ! It's a whole movie about the giant murder robots ! Those giant murder robots I loved as a kid !

I, genuinely, think that writing wise, you could break it up in 2, maybe even 3 different movies that would all have enough substance to go for an hour and a half. Really, most of this movie's problem isn't the stories it's trying to tell. It's - pick your battles, that's too many battles, put some back.

But it was genuinely fun.

I wouldn't call it a "good movie", by my own standards, but I had 0 expectations and again I enjoyed myself immensely.

Go watch them giant robots. It's so cool. It's so cool.

#fnaf movie #hope it's fine to put in the main tag i genuinely enjoyed it #it's goofy at times #it feels nice #i wouldn't call it horror simply because that part is botched after the first half basically #it is a movie! #and a fun one at that #so yaeh #i watched it with my dad who never played the games or anything #he decided to watch it with me because it's- it's a thing he does it's 'read or watch what my kids like to be able to talk to them about it #he did it for the hunger games when i was in high school #and i think even before that he gave narnia a read when i was a baby ass kid ? #and he watched the eragon movie with me. etc. #he just does that. #anyway #he doesn't know anything about fnaf #and his conclusion was like that you can definitely watch it without knowing any of the context #and while he wasn't too keen on the way they dropped information - the infodump bits aren't super well thought out #he also said it was enjoyable! #he also several times wondered what kid would like these scary ass animatronics #and then i showed him real life chuck e cheese animatronics #and he was like oh okay. i guess it's not unbelievable then #literally for the first half of this movie that was his only gripe with it LMFAO #the first have does a nice job at horror tbh #the second half less because it's 'oh my god we have so many things to tell we're running out of TIME' #pacing is important!

Gojo Satoru is an awesome person, and people clearly don't value him enough

#i love him very much /platonically #only those who tasted war genocide all the cruelty and unfairness of this world can fully realise how awesome he is #I'm not talking about his appearance or powers #99% of content about him and geto usually focus on geto and glorify geto #and i think it's not fair #just because Gojo's the strongest sorcerer who behaves like a clown on purpose - does it mean he's deserves a treatment like to a clown? #i love content about him and nanami because it focuses on BOTH of them on BOTH of their traumas and how they find peace in each other #it doesn't make gojo inferior or superior like it does with him and geto #Gojo's the strongest not because he killed toji or because of six eyes or something #it's because despite everything he didn't became like geto #btw i believe that even if geto said back then 'yes kill them all' - gojo wouldn't do that. he would probably start screaming #despite it's still unclear who were all these clapping people #Gojo's the strongest because he didn't use hollow purple on geto back then because otherwise he could have killed lots of passbyers #for some reason gege really tries to make them look equal in everything - but he fails to me #gojo and geto never were equal and I'm not talking about their powers #people can't be equal and that's okay #to geto it was important to be equal to gojo not because gojo was gojo but because gojo was the strongest sorcerer #to geto it was important to be Gojo's friend because it gave him the sense of self-importance #and you should never base your self-importance on one person no matter how strong they are #because god will definitely laugh at you and will make to go through a life trial #geto didn't base his self-importance on his parents Yaga Shoko Haibara other people around him - only on Gojo #actually i believe such people are a veeeeery big red flag. #which gojo didn't see because he really really wanted to have a best friend to rely on #that's the difference between geto and nanami. although as we can see nanami also based quite a lot of his self-importance on gojo #nanago don't try to make gojo and nanami equal or superior or inferior - they make them look worth each other #i believe geto isn't worth gojo #also i find quite annoying the amount of art of gojo mourning geto #like man i prefer seeing gojo happy despite everything #gojo and geto are not tragic lovers they're both very traumatized by each other teens you guys just love unnecessary suffering #yk people who go through people's death on daily basis usually hate unnecessary suffering

Honestly though, being serious with all the Kate and William theories and rumors going on, I do hope their kids are doing okay and will come out of this fine, because it cannot be easy for the kids to be stuck in the middle of all this.
