highlights of my partner watching dead poets:
the second neil shows up on screen, he hasn’t even spoken yet: “oh that man is gay”
“oh i didn’t know robin williams was in this! father figure.”
neil and todd meeting: “and they were roommates” 👀
*proceeds to make a kissy noises for the next five minutes whenever anderperry were on screen together*
charlie introduces himself: “oh, well, that wasn’t straight.”
mr. perry pulls the “you know how much this means to your mother” card: “oh fuck you, you’re one of those guys.”
every scene with knox: *cringing* “oh king. no.”
meeks and pitts dancing: “oh c’mon now that’s gay. they’re about to kiss.”
neil talking about joining the play: “oh he’s going to get his ass beat. he’s going to die.”
(note: he had no idea neil was legitimately going to die, he just knew this was my favorite movie and ethan hawke was in it lol)
desk set scene, sad for todd: “this poor guy. poor little meow meow. he deserves better.”
he spent the entire movie after the play looking between me and the screen because i was crying

my modern “if the poets went on a roadtrip with mr. keating” headcanons:
- mr. keating: drives like a bat out of hell (this man is literally airborne on the interstate)
- neil: in the passenger seat trying to teach mr. keating that google maps is easier than an actual map + has to turn down the volume of the music constantly bc mr. keating can’t hear anything (“you take a left up here-“ “WHAT?” *cranks music down* “YOU TAKE A LEFT UP HERE, CAPTAIN”)
- todd: got left at the gas station (they did turn around and get him but he just stares out the window behind the drivers seat the whole time in silence—still upset)
- charlie: behind the passenger seat on the aux and playing the most god awful music you’ve ever heard in your life (i feel like he would play a lot of underground music that no man has ever heard before except the artist that created it)
- knox: in the back complaining about the bad WiFi signal bc his awful selfies won’t go through to Chris (she definitely blocked him)
- meeks: in the back as well + binging on the snacks he brought with and watching a movie from the screen on the back of a seat (let’s be honest, he’s watching oppenheimer)
- pitts: “LOOK IT’S A COW” every 5 minutes (also in the back)
- cameron: locked in the trunk somehow?? (mr. keating isn’t aware bc they told him cameron was busy that day)

Random DPS Headcannons I Thought of Today
Headcannon that Charlie went against his parents wishes and became a playright, wrote the story of him and and his friends in Neil’s honor, calling the play ‘Dead Poets Society’ obviously, and the reference to DPS in Perks of A Wallflower is to Charlie’s play, meaning Mr Anderson is Todd.
Headcannon that after Keating is fired he moves back to England and has a son with his wife, whom he calls Neil.
Headcannon that Pittsie starts a radio show and calls it MEEKS

Dead Poets Society Headcannon’s based on their experiences growing up on Welton Campus.
1. The large lake brings many different types of wildlife to campus (for ex. Geese, turtles, toads, etc.) Because of this the boys have had many interactions with these animals, but the funniest one was Charlie getting chased by a goose.
2. One of the boys has definitely gotten their head stuck in the fence surrounding campus when they were younger (probably Knox)
3. Pitts is known for being a tree climber. He’s tall enough to reach branches the others can’t and he pulls himself up with ease. His favorite is to stay up there and scare people.
4. When Cameron was younger he would catch Toads and leave them in Charlie’s bed to scare the shit out of him, Charlie screamed every time.
5. In the winter months the boys would always have an annual snowball fight that usually ended with Cameron getting hit in the face and the vibe immediately being killed. Charlie definitely threw it.
6. One time Charlie and Neil tried skipping class to play in the snow, they were caught almost immediately building a snowman in sight of the classrooms.
7. In the spring Nolan would allow campus campfires. The boys would gather around and make s’mores and share ghost stories, it was the only fun thing they ever got to do on campus.
8. Nearly every students on the campus has fallen into the lake once, it’s a right of passage
9. the boys on multiple occasions have participated in toad racing, Nolan shut it down when the students started placing bets.
10. Mr. Mcallister with parents permission taught each of the kids how to drive when they turned 16.
11. there is a lot of deer on campus and they can be seen usually early in the morning. one time meeks sneezed and scared them away like that one vine.
12. In the warmer months the boys are allowed to swim in the lake, Cameron is too scared of the water to go in though. (Charlie has pushed him in multiple times)
13. The animals love Neil, he’s literally snow white. Todd was mesmerized the first time he saw a deer eat straight from his hand.
14. Knox had to teach Cameron how to ride a bike, for two weeks they spent every day after class outside while Knox held him up and showed him how. Every time he crashed he almost quit but Knox could calm him down each time.
15. Pitts is such a heavy sleeper that one time when he was thirteen the boys lifted him into a rowboat and pushed him a drift. Charlie laughed so hard he cried when Pitts woke up and accidentally fell in.

Quick dps hcs bc it’s been a while
Their favorite fruit and why
Neil ; pears, once he was sick and the only thing he could eat that didn’t hurt his throat was pears. But he also kinda got disgusted bc he took a bite out of an unripe one and it was like biting a rock
Todd ; oranges, his ass is NEVER getting scurvy let me tell you that. He really enjoys citrusy fruits, oranges being his favorite; he likes them because they’re sweet and sour at the same time.. he also likes clementines (same thing!)
Meeks ; pineapple, Meeks is a really weird guy, he learned he was slightly allergic to pineapple one day and just made it his goal to not be? So he would eat ungodly amounts of pineapple to help his body not die??
Pitts ; coconut, he thinks they taste like nothing but enjoys them anyways. He thinks it’s like eating soggy cardboard and he likes that for whatever reason.
Knox ; cherry, he thinks they’re “romantic” or some shit. He also really likes the taste, he also likes how they stain his lips and give him a small lip tint (GAY). I also think he would enjoy grapes just for the fact he would feed them to his partner like those one scenes in movies.
Cameron ; kiwi, he likes the taste and how the seeds crunch?? Idk he’s weird
Charlie ; watermelon, he isn’t that big on fruit but he likes watermelon because they don’t have a strong taste
*ੈ✩‧₊˚
Ginny ; strawberries, we all know lesbians love strawberries! But she likes them with sugar or whipped cream.
Chris ; pomegranates, she loves them for whatever reason, but she hates how they stain literally everything

Take me back to the night we met
The boys sit in a circle, laughing and smoking. Neil stands up, hushing the others as he flips to a page of the book he was holding. “Listen up gentlemen, for I have found a fine piece of poetry for you tonight.” He clears his throat and holds the book up, adjusting his reading glasses. “O mistress mine, where are you roaming? O stay and hear! Your true-love's coming. That can sing both high and low; trip no further, pretty sweeting, journey’s end in lovers' meeting-- Every wise man's son doth know. What is love? 'Tis not hereafter; Present mirth hath present laughter; what’s to come is still unsure: in delay there lies no plenty,-- Then come kiss me, sweet and twenty, youth’s a stuff will not endure. Carpe diem, William Shakespeare.” Neil finishes and bows dramatically, a smile gracing his lips.
When the night was full of terrors and your eyes were filled with tears
Todd woke with a start clutching his chest at the memory, he looked over to Neil’s empty bed and tears filled his eyes. He slipped out of his bed, slipping his shoes on and grabbing his coat before he silently exited his room. Todd knew it was a stupid idea but he made his way to the overpass where he and Neil had spoken on his birthday. He looked over the edge, resting his forearms against the cool stone and taking a deep breath as the memory of throwing the wretched desk set over replayed in his head. He wished Neil were here beside him, there was so much unspoken that he yearned to tell the other; like how he made Todd’s first year at Welton feel less daunting, thank him for how he’d helped, how his smile was the prettiest thing Todd had ever seen, how his eyes reminded him of hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day. But alas there was no way to speak to the dead, no way to profess his love and speak his truth, no way to watch as Neil’s eyes crinkled when he smiled or laughed, no way to listen as Neil practiced his lines and shouted with joy at the prospect of an acting career. And so he sat, dwelling in all that was untold, wishing desperately to have back what he had lost.
I've been searching for a trail to follow again
Todd sat in his seat in what was Mr. Keating's class, he kept glancing back at Neil and Charlie’s desks, it felt so wrong to not have the two here. God he wishes they could go back to how things were, he felt so lost without the two energetic boys, he felt as if he was drowning. Lost and drowning, like a paper in a puddle. He felt a cold breeze from the window and was reminded of the times Neil had left the window in their room open and he’d slept with a coat on as to let the other boy sleep comfortably. The scribble of a pen reminded him of the times he sat quietly, trying to write poetry and having Neil playfully tease him about it, trying to peek at it. He remembered the time that Neil had grabbed the papers from him and he’d chased the other around the room trying to get it back, he remembers the way Neil had laughed and smiled as if there were no other worries in the world. God he wishes he could go back to simpler times.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do, haunted by the ghost of you
Todd went back to his dorm room, he looked over at Neil’s side of the room, the desk caught his eye. He could almost see it; Neil sat at his desk typing out the letters for the play as he sat on Neil’s bed, the anxiety twisting in his gut as he thought of the trouble Neil would be in if it was found that he forged the letters. He remembers Neil’s elation, the boy tapping his feet and talking eagerly of his plan. God he wishes Neil hadn’t done that. Maybe if it hadn’t happened Neil would still be here, he’d be sat in the room pestering Todd about his poetry, joking with Charlie, studying with Meeks, he’d be able to fully live out his life, become an actor when he’s old enough to get away from his parents. But no he chose to do the play and Todd was so so proud of him, he’d performed wonderfully and it had been an incredible experience to see how happy Neil was, how in his element he was, but deep down he wished he’d tried to stop Neil.
I had all and then most of you some and now none of you
Todd watched as Cameron brushed past the group like they didn’t exist. It hurt knowing the group would never be the same, Meeks and Pitts had shut themselves away, choosing to stick to each other rather than speak to the others, Cameron had completely cut everyone off, Knox was too busy with Chris and Charlie had been expelled and so once again Todd was left alone. It left a sinking feeling in his gut, a deep void that could never be filled, once again he felt the pressure of his brother's shadow over him, the pressure to be good and not let down his family name that his brother had made a reputation for as one of Welton’s most successful graduates. He wished so desperately for everything to go back, he was flailing, grasping at loose ends trying to piece his life back together again, trying to fill the settling loneliness with schoolwork. He’d never felt so lost and alone as he did the moment Charlie had shook him awake telling him that Neil was dead, bright and cheerful Neil laid to rest in the cold December ground, now nothing more than a memory.
Take me back to the night we met
