Giving: gift giving, acts of service

Well, it is a very well known fact that Francois is an excellent cook who loves to share their passion with others. They will make sure you get the most excellent of their pastries, and if you’re not a big fan of sweets, don’t worry – Francois will make sure to prepare some salty snacks for you. And if they hear you talking to anybody about craving any type of food, be sure you'll get it the next day for the adequate meal!

Receiving: acts of service, words of affirmation

Since Francois spends most of their time on cooking, they don’t have that much energy left to complete other chores. Make their bed, sweep the floor and leave a cup with water beside their bed and trust me that it won’t go unnoticed. Also, don’t forget to compliment the food that they make! Say a few nice words about it and tell how pretty Francois looks when they are focused, and watch as your partner turns all flustered and red!

Kinro

Giving: acts of service, quality time

Just look at Kinro and tell me he won’t be doing things you didn’t even ask him for, just to make your life easier. You can’t? Exactly. He will do anything that you have even the slightest problems with and more. Kinro also loves when the two of you can find some time in your busy schedules just to waste by going on a walk or laying in tall grass, talking about everything and nothing.

Kinro is not the best at starting any form of physical affection with his loved one. He’s a bit shy when it comes to this department. But it’s not like he doesn’t like it – in fact, it’s quite the opposite… Holding his hand, surprise hugging him from behind, peppering his face in kisses – it makes the butterflies in his stomach go crazy! Also, find some time to spend with him. Even 5 minutes will make Kinro the happiest man in the whole world!

Ryusui

Giving: words of affirmation, quality time

Oh, he will compliment everything about you. Especially things you’re insecure about. He may call everyone beautiful, but, in his eyes, you definitely take the trophy. Ryusui loves when you spend time with him while he’s working on his projects. He’s a bit clingy, and hates to be apart with the one he loves. So if your work requires you to be in a specific space, he’ll follow you around! He can draw a project of a ship even on a dusty floor if it means he can spend time with you!

Receiving: words of affirmation, quality time

Ryusui loves to be praised. Tell him that he’s done a good job. That he looks handsome. That he’s a good boy! Tell him every positive thought that comes to your mind when you see his snarky smile! Say that he’s the smartest! And spend time with him. That’s obvious after what I’ve written above. If you can complete your work by his side, he’ll insist that you stay with him. Even if you two will only be sitting in silence, doing your own stuff, he loves the aspect of you being around.

Senku

Giving: acts of service, words of affirmation

We’ve seen Senku doing things for the people he cares about to make their life better. He’s a person who wants to help everyone by nature. So it’s not a surprise when one day you bitch about a thing in your life that brings you inconvenience, and after a few days Senku gives you an invention that’ll make your problem disappear! He also gives you a bunch of words of affirmation. But don’t even think that they’re compliments. Senku always tells you that he’s only stating facts!

Receiving: words of affirmation, quality time

Just as much as Senku adores the way your face turns red when he tells you compliments facts, his ears change their color red when you do the same to him! He knows that he’s doing a good job. He doesn’t need reassurance. But your words… are just so nice… it makes this nice warm feeling form in his chest! Senku has issues with overworking himself. So he’s always glad when you smack the back of his head, forcing him to take it easy and rest for a bit. Especially if it can be done in a nice company.

Tsukasa

Giving: acts of service, physical touch

It’s really hard not to give everyone acts of service. But just look at this precious boy! He wants the best for his loved ones! Of course he’ll do things you haven’t even asked him for, just so you don’t have to worry about them! He’s also a big fan of your touch. Stroking your face lovingly with his thumb, kissing your forehead before sleep! He always wraps his arm around your waist or holds your hand when you’re in a crowd, so that he’s sure you’re by his side.

Do the same with Tsukasa! Treat him like a babygirl that he truly is! Wrap your arm around his waist, and if you’re strong enough, keep him on your knees when you talk about your days! I Will Never Let You Go

Shishio Tsukasa x gn!Reader | SFW

You were the first person Tsukasa chose to revive once he got access to the cave of nitric acid. He could remember clearly where you should have been when the green light coated the earth. You were supposed to meet him at a cafe down the street from the gym he used to train at. Somehow, like an invisible string was guiding him through the map of the overgrown forest, he found himself to you.

Not being aware yet of the fact that using the nitric acid on petrified people had a healing effect, Tsukasa, having already pulverised multiple statues that weren't to his liking, nearly broke into tears seeing that you were all in one piece. The worst that had happened was that your lower body was submerged in the ground and that you were covered with moss.

Tsukasa carefully dug you up, taking the most precise attention to make sure he didn't accidentally damage you, and then cleaned you up before pouring some of the nitric acid over you. When the stone burying your body cracked and tumbled apart from your bare skin, the first thing you saw was Tsukasa kneeling in front of you. You were not even able to speak his name before you were taken into his arms and embraced as tightly as he could without choking you, wrapping you in his cloak against his bare chest.

"Are you well?" he asked you.

"Yes." You didn't hesitate to lean forward and press your lips to his.

Tsukasa almost gasped as you kissed him, but he quickly fell comfortable and returned the gesture to you. He was an awkward kisser, inexperienced but passionate, and his plush lips held a tender softness you couldn't imagine receiving from anyone else.

He gave you his cloak until he could find more suitable clothing for you, protectively folding and tying it around your naked body as if to shield it from the eyes of any others. The two of your were completely alone. No one else was in sight, however for Tsukasa even the eyes of a stray monkey hanging from a tree was one pair too many to gaze upon what was his.

When Tsukasa brought you to the shelter he had stole from Senku, he explained the situation to you and told you about his plans. As all who were revived from the petrification, you were shocked to hear that you were over three thousand years in the future, living in this primitive, uninhabited (so you thought) world. To Tsukasa's relief, you agreed with his dreams. Having come from a poor family where it was difficult to make ends meet to pay rent and buy food, the thought of a world free from that was like a godsend.

And you knew, no matter what the state of the world, that Tsukasa would protect you. He gave you his word long before the green light froze you in place on your way to the cafe, and his promise still stood valid thousands of year later. He was your best friend and your dearest love, even though Tsukasa's shyness left the two of you not yet having become more intimate than hugs and the occasional kiss. But you felt that it was only a matter of time before your relationship would become even closer than it was before.

"Y/n," Tsukasa said that evening as you were watching the sunset together from a high cliff. "When I build my empire, you and I will rule together to bring mankind to a purer civilisation." Although his face remained stoic, there was a slight upwards twist at the corners of his mouth. "Everything we make together from now on will be a paradise world just for us." His eyes glistened softly with pride. "Will you embark on this journey with me?"

"Of course." The answer was simple and not a single fibre in your body questioned your decision.

Tsukasa seemed to know what your response would be, but he needed to hear it with his own ears. He turned to face you, took your hand into both of his, and gently raised it to his lips. Closing his eyes, he kissed the back of your hand and lowered his forehead to the same place he had touched with his lips.

"No matter what, it will always be you and me together," he said and rose his forehead. His long, thick eyelashes separated from each other as he calmly opened his eyes to look at you. "Even if we somehow live another thousand years, I will never have anyone but you stand by my side."

Kaiju Weeks in Review (March 31-April 13, 2024)

It took forever (maybe they were waiting on the returns for Godzilla x Kong), but Apple TV+ has finally greenlit season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. According to its listing on the WGA site, it'll run from 2024 to 2025. Multiple spinoffs are also in development at Apple; no details on those yet.

Speaking of Godzilla x Kong, it continues to do well, staying #1 at the domestic box office in its second weekend and falling to #2 (behind Civil War) in its third. Current totals are $158 million domestic and $437 million worldwide. It'll soon pass the domestic gross of Kong: Skull Island and the total gross of Godzilla vs. Kong.

Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers II #1 promises more of everything: more heroes (the White Ranger joins our heroes from the first comic), more villains (including Psycho Ranger Ghidora up there), and more alternate universes. Godzilla gets a bit buried in all the Ranger antics though.

A couple of kaiju series debuted on TV too: Kaiju No. 8 and Season 2 of Chibi Godzilla Raids Again. The former followed the manga very closely, and as such didn't really keep my attention; hopefully it innovates a bit more going forward. Chibi Godzilla's as irreverent as ever.

Tsuburaya Productions has released preliminary information on the next installment of the Ultra Series, Ultraman Arc. The logline:

A town called Hoshimoto City... On Mt. Shishio, there is a gigantic object towering above the city. Named "Monohorn," (モノホーン, Monohōn) it is actually a kaiju’s horn stuck in the ground since an incident 16 years ago. After the incident known as "K-DAY" in which kaiju appeared all over the world at the same time, monster disasters have become commonplace. In Japan, the Global Defense Force (GDF) uses force to deal with them, while SKIP works closely with the community in scientific investigations and evacuation guidance to prevent the occurrence and aggravation of kaiju disasters. SKIP has also been investigating the Monohorn, the horn of the galactic beast Monogelos (モノゲロス, Monogerosu) that appeared on K-DAY. Yuma, then only 7 years old, was camping with his parents in Mt. Shishio when Monogelos attacked. After miraculously surviving unscathed, he decided to pursue research into monster biology. Despite his traumatic past, he has not lost his “power of imagination” to dream. As a rookie investigator, Yuma joined SKIP and was assigned to the Hoshimoto City Branch. Not long after, another large-scale monster disaster occurs in Hoshimoto City. As Yuma sees the desperate people in front of him, a strong will springs into his mind — “I want to protect them!” At the moment when this strong and straightforward desire welled up from the bottom of his heart, Yuma hears the voice of Rution (ルティオン, Rution) a being of light that he once saw as a child: “You and I are one and the same… Unleash your imagination!” When a mysterious light appears in Yuma's hand and envelops his body, the unleashed power of imagination unites light and man and he transforms into Ultraman Arc, the Giant of Light who protects the future! Alongside his precious friends, Yuma, as well as Ultraman Arc, races towards his everlasting dream!

Yuma is played by Yuki Totsuka, while Takanori Tsujimoto is the lead director. He's directed for the series since Ultraman X, but this is his biggest assignment to date.

After beginning to release select Movie Monster Series figures in the States, Bandai America is now fully back in the Godzilla game, with articulated figures, 5-inch vinyls, blind box figures, and transforming eggs all up for preorder at the Godzilla Store and other toy sites. The eggs come from the 2014 Godzilla-E.G. line and the rest is all-new. Not much of a selection so far, but with how big Godzilla is right now, I'm sure there'll be more to come.

SRS Cinema has opened preorders for its War of the Ninja Monsters: Jaron vs. Goura Blu-ray, due in late July or August. Shinpei Hayashiya's latest epic, it'll come with behind-the-scenes footage and maybe a commentary track, which would be nice given how little information is available about his films online.

Ryusui Nanami: Ryusui is a Professional Gamer, literally, he has actual Training when it comes to video games, so he understands why you’d enjoy them so much and want to spend your time on them. In fact I bet you two play together a Lot. It’s fun to compare your skills! He’s hard to beat though, so you’ll really have to practice your skills if you want to beat him. (When you pull Imbibitor Lunae Ryusui is right there cheering with you, asking about what strategy you were thinking to build him and stuff like that.)

Stanley Snyder: He doesn’t really understand video games, but he appreciates your love for them. It’s nice to have something to be passionate about, he knows that…so he’ll support you, watch you play, listen to you talk about video games, even though most of it flies right over his head. He’s also helpful because he encourages you to take breaks and stretch your legs with him every now and then. (When you pull Imbibitor Lunae Stanley gives you a little round of applause and a smile and a ‘congratulations’, but he has no idea what you’re talking about.)

Dr. Xeno Houston Wingfield: Doesn’t understand your love of video games, nor does he have any interest in indulging you. But if you really, REALLY want to talk to him about video games…fine. You can talk to him while he’s working in his lab, just as long as you stay out of his way. He remembers everything you say actually, even if none of it makes any sense to him. (When you pull Imbibitor Lunae he’s just like “yes yes, dear, the dragon? That’s lovely…” while not looking up from his work, haha…)

I like to make connections between the universes that are on my radar at the moment and evaluate how similar or different certain characters are within their own contexts. It helps me not to focus on just one thing for too long and I like to see how much I can understand a character using other templates for comparison.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about the narrative comparison between Wato and Wakamiya regarding the loss of their respective Sherlocks, especially considering that Wato would be the Watson whose Holmes never came back and how that affects her character as a whole.

Or how I can draw a comparison of melancholy between Wato and Mishima with both sharing the loss of someone loved through their own fault, but on opposite poles. Wato was used and manipulated to carry out the actions that caused her to lose Sherlock while Mishima used and manipulated others in furtherance of the actions that caused him to lose Ryuzaki. How can two people with such similar pains, but with such different developments relate? And considering that neither Sherlock nor Ryuzaki will return in the end, is the development prior to tragedy really worth anything other than haunting them? Would the dichotomy be even worse if Sherlock and Ryuzaki somehow ended up getting back from death?

Or how Joowon didn't technically lose anyone, Dongsik is alive and well as is possible for people who have gone through the trials they've faced, but somehow he still feels like he's lost the man. As if a Dongsik well would be the same as a dead Dongsik to him, because outside of the chaos of their partnership, Joowon feels that there is no room for him in Dongsik's life. That he shouldn't claim that space. Very close to how I imagine Mishima would feel if Ryuzaki ultimately survived. Or Wato, depending on how Sherlock managed to elude death. Or Wakamiya, stuck with the idea that he is replaceable for Shishio and unable to forgive him for being left behind again, for allowing himself to hope only to mean nothing.

I can also draw parallels to how no matter what happens, affection drives both Dongsik and Ryuzaki to find a way to make their respective partners understand that they don't have to claim anything, that whatever they want is theirs without the need for a request. That both Ryuzaki and Sherlock would be able to die as many times as necessary to save the ones they love. How Sherlock and Shishio share that basic feature of the Holmes-Watson relationship of always doing everything possible to keep their Watson safe, even if sometimes things don't go as well as planned.

I can stay here forever and add more relationships if you let me.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Final (first watch)

Hard rant up ahead. Like I've just seen it and I'm still really, really incoherent but I just needed to let this out.

This is like the raw, knee-jerk reaction.

Also spoilers. Please do not read this if you have not seen the movie yet.

I'm not kidding.

Like, step away and just forget about this post.

*takes a deep breath: here we go*

First of all, I feel like Otomo really has no love for Kaoru.

Look, I get it that they wanted the movie to be different from the anime and the manga which is truly fine with me as it gives the audience something new to look forward to. There are welcomed additions and changes. But I have always thought that by the third movie, it was clear that Kaoru was being treated unfairly especially when she had been taken by Seta. WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT?!

I am still so sad that we did not get to see Kaoru perform her Hawatari. That was just --- for a Kaoru fan like me, it was brutal to have to watch her reduced into being the girl kidnapped in 3 of the 4 movies. LIKE NO. My girl Kaoru is not that kind of girl.

My Tanuki Girl did not deserve this. She defeated one of Enishi's henchmen - what's his face? I can't remember and I'm too angry to research shit.

I am so bummed that I didn't get to see that!!! Instead what I got was a Sojiru Seta-insert that didn't even make sense.

Also, what a miss on the whole point of Enishi's Jinchuu.

It wasn't to fight and defeat Kenshin. It was to ruin Kenshin as much as the trauma of seeing his sister die had ruined Enishi.

When Enishi's Jinchuu was revealed it was utter devastation for EVERYONE.

And no Kenshin in Rakuninmura (?!!!)

Remember what Hiko told Kenshin in the last movie? Before he went back to Tokyo to fight Shishio? It was about not throwing his life away. He told Kenshin TO LIVE.

I thought they were going to tie that up with the final because that was what Enishi's Jinchuu did to him: HE DIDN'T WANT TO LIVE ANYMORE. HE WAS LITERALLY DEAD INSIDE.

I wanted very badly to hear Sato say, "Enough. No more. I'm tired."

BUT NO. NOTHING. He was more anguished when Kaoru ended up in Rengoku - which now actually makes sense if they had been planning on doing The Final this way. UGH.

Looks like we're going to get all the Kenshin/Sato angst in The Beginning.

With Tomoe.

Look, I have nothing against Tomoe. Over the years as I try to grow and be more mature - still an on going process - I've learned to appreciate her.

What I really detest is how one has to overshadow the other and I have a feeling this is what's going to happen with the next movie and I'm just rally saddened by that.

I'm still forever grateful that Rurouni Kenshin was made into five movies. And I don't hate this movie; it's too strong of a word and it feels like dismissing all of the heart and hardwork everyone had put into making this film. I'm just painfully disappointed about the things that I had expected - which is yeah, all on me. It's my fault.

Anyway, I will rewatch without my shipper eyeglasses on and will probably immensely enjoy this movie for the acting, the jaw dropping, graceful, work of art fight scenes and everything else.

AND THEN I WILL CURL UP WITH MY MANGA to get all the real feels.

[Translation] Mackenyu Arata Interview for Rurouni Kenshin: The Final at Animate Times

As a fan of the Rurouni Kenshin installment, Mackenyu Arata couldn't hide his surprise when offered to play Yukishiro Enishi. Looking back on the shooting, he talked about his thoughts on the upcoming release

—What was your honest reaction when they offered you to appear in the Rurouni Kenshin: The Final installment?

Mackenyu: My honest reaction was, “Eh?! You’re kidding right? No way! Really?! Is it okay for me to take this role?! I’m this young and I’m playing the last boss?!” I was really surprised.

—What was your impression about Yukishiro Enishi as a character?

Mackenyu: He is described as the series’ most feared enemy. But seeing him from a different point of view, I think you can’t really tell which side is justice and which side is evil.

—How did you create this role?

Mackenyu: To match his physique of course I worked out, but I focused on his mentality. Things like whether he wants to reveal his identity to others or not. I was most consciou about understanding and performing this role properly.

—Did you read the original to understand this role?

Mackenyu: I didn’t read the manga. I think adaptations and manga are completely different thing, and basically I avoid reading original manga to all the live-action works that I have worked in so far.

—So the information you’ve obtained from the script is already enough?

Mackenyu: That’s right, I think everything is already included there.

—I know that each set has its own characteristics and atmosphere, but what did you feel when you came into this filming team?

Mackenyu: (looks at the movie pamphlet) it looks exactly like this. It felt like we were continuously filming in the midst of burning flame. Everyone is working really hard until they burn-out and tattered. That applies to me too.

—I got the chance to see the preview, but I get the impression that you really put your life on the line for this role.

Mackenyu: Yes. From the very beginning I have to give my everything.

—Did you shoot that first scene on the train during your first day?

Mackenyu: Yes. Actually, it’s been almost 3 years ago, but from the first day filming, I was already doing full action sequences.

—That train scene, which was also the introduction to Enishi. I was completely blown away by the intense action scenes inside the train.

Mackenyu: It’s a wonderful opening scene, right? I had fun shooting that. As an actor I’m really happy that I was able to be part of a set where I can fully showcase my abilities.

—Previously, action director Kenji Tanigaki talked to us in Animate Times. He said, “I knew right away that Mackenyu Arata is incredibly athletic.’ How did you feel when you actually performed action scenes under his direction?

Mackenyu: I’m honored to hear him say that. While performing the action scenes with Tanigaki-san and his team, sometimes I would suggest, “I want to do this kind of sequence” and he would include it in, he was a very flexible person. Moreover, I think he is a person with great imagination.

—Was there a time when his imagination moved you?

Mackenyu: There were times when I thought his ideas are amazing. Especially during the action scene inside the train where I fought using a kendama [T/N: a traditional Japanese skill toy]. Somehow, he came up with a sequence where a single kendama can beat dozens of people at once, it’s amazing.

—But your role is not just about the action skills. The whole idea about ‘Jinchuu’ is that when justice is not served by the heavens, then humans will make the judgement. The fight also involves complex emotions.

Mackenyu: It is essential to combine actions and emotions when playing Enishi. It was important for me to act with my whole body for this role.

—This work has so many interesting points, but is there any scene that particularly left an impression to you?

Mackenyu: Other than the action scenes with Kenshin, the scenes with Kaoru played by Takei Emi-san are highlights. I think we can see another side of Enishi. When they exchanged conversations, and also his actions around her—how he behave in a certain way, I think you might begin to see how he really feels inside.

—Did you have any particular difficulty?

Mackenyu: That would definitely be the action scenes. It’s very high level, and I’ve never had such a hard time filming anything before. It was fun at the beginning, but gradually everyone and myself starts wearing out. However, the sense of accomplishment is great.

—How did you feel when you finally cranked-up?

Mackenyu: We shoot this movie for about half a year, with a really tough schedule, so I was really happy it all ended.

—To continue playing Enishi for half a year, that must really push you to your limit

Mackenyu: That’s right. Because that role was such a role after all. It was pretty tough.

—There seems to be a lot of hardship involved, but is there anything you’ve accomplished from this work?

Mackenyu: What I’ve accomplished... honestly, I have no idea. What I know is that I always gain something from each work, but it took me years to really understand that. Everything that I have been through has made me what I am now.

—In that sense, everything about you will constantly be updated

Mackenyu: That’s right. There will always be something new, there will always be growth.

—What was your impression when you watch the movie at the preview?

Mackenyu: It was really tiring (laughs). My hands were sweating throughout the whole movie, my energy was drained, so by the end I just heave a long sigh.

—The movie screening is just around the corner. How are you feeling now?

Mackenyu: As a big fan of Enishi, I’m really looking forward to it. I’m very happy that everyone can finally see the movie.

—As our name suggests, many Animate Times reader watches anime. Do you have any recommendation?

Mackenyu: For anime... I like ‘HUNTER x HUNTER’, I’ve been watching it. I really like the story.

Tsukasa Shishio X fem Reader HCs

Tsukasa sighed as he pushed a stray strand of his long hair behind his ear.

He slammed his physics textbook shut and stood up from his desk chair, tiredly stretching his arms.

I should go to the store and get something for Mirai. Her birthday is coming up soon He thought before grabbing his keys and wallet and leaving the house.

As Tsukasa rounded the corner of main street he saw a young lady about his age panic sprinting down the sidewalk in the opposite direction,

In her frantic state it seemed she failed to notice a very large stop sign.

With a very loud metallic bang, she fell straight onto her butt...

Everything she once held earlier, flying in every direction.

She screamed out in frustration as she hurriedly gathered her things.

Attempting to suppress his laughter, Tsukasa approached the girl.

“Are you alright? Do you need any help?” He asked.

Her eyes widened as she searched for an answer.

“I...Uh.. I’m alright.. I...Yea, I’d really appreciate some help collecting my things if it’s no trouble”

Tsukasa nodded and started gathering her notebooks, pens and books.

He handed the pile of now slightly damaged and dirty stationary to her before getting up and brushing himself off.

“I hope that’s everything” He said.

“Looks like it... See you around.... uh”

“Tsukasa, your name is Y/N right?”

“H...How did you-”

Tsukasa pointed at one of her notebooks where her name was printed in neat, legible writing.

“Right.... I forgot about that” she said, laughing.

And with that, Tsukasa took off, but not before looking back at the girl and giving her a smirk and a wink.

They would definitely meet again soon.

I am not supposed to adore you. You're not supposed to cry.

"I'm going to Kyoto."

I feel hollow, and I can't bear the thought that after this moment, I will become a stranger once again, just a fleeting memory at the back of your mind. I feel empty, and I know it will stay with me long after this goodbye. I want to hold onto this moment and wish that the world would pity me for once and stand still while the two of us share the same world. I want to hide from the inevitable, but I can only fool myself for so long.

"During my stay here, my heart was at ease. I felt as if I had changed from the hitokiri to an ordinary swordsman."

When I first met you like it just happened yesterday, I still remember a fierce young woman with sapphire blue eyes. I felt drawn to you in a way I didn't know why. You came to me like a brand new day, like the sun breaking through the clouds to bring light into my world. We forged a relationship built on friendship. I was uncertain, but then slowly, you worked your way. The barriers I made around tumbled down

"When I first met you… Even though you knew I was the Hitokiri Battousai, you kept me from leaving. You told me that you didn't care about my past."

Suddenly you became the ever-present daylight in my life. Without knowing, I drew my strength from you. Then, shadows of my past crept in, and the world I'd created with you began to crumble.

"I was very happy."

You were a fantasy that I wished would never come to an end. You created a home where we could go and laugh, a future in which dreams could come true. You gave us a semblance of normalcy and a place where we wouldn't be judged for our pasts. It was too good to be true. You were too good to be true.

"But to the government, to Shishio and to all the people who have a grudge on me from the past, the Battousai is all I'll ever be."

The tears streaming down your cheeks are harsh reminders that this is really happening, that you will be my immeasurable loss. I want to stay, but I know I have to leave. I imprinted your voice in my mind. I hold you tightly, hoping that your warmth could tide me over as I walk this godforsaken road again. It takes an ounce of courage within me to pull away.

"Thank you for everything that you've done for me… and… goodbye."

I know it will be hard, but I didn't realize it would be this hard.

"I am a rurouni. And once again… I will wander."

I am not supposed to adore you. You're not supposed to cry.

Stone Skipping || CH1 ; 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴

In the midst of their pleading, rickety lines overcame [name]'s vision. They were wild and quickly spread throughout the darkness that encased them, spreading hope within the depths of their heart. Light seeped through these cracks, and before they knew it..

The darkness was no more.

First, it was their eye. Their actual sight had returned. From what [name] could tell, the stone pieces were cracking and surely falling off from their body. Then, they looked around the environment. Unlike only-Senku-knows-how-long ago, nature had completely taken over the area they were in. The plants were lush and green, the trees so tall that they practically reached the sky, the vines grew over and into anything they could grasp, there were no signs of buildings or any man-made structures. Instead, what greeted them besides green, green, and even more green, were two pairs of beady little eyes staring at their form, in what [name] could gather, to be perplexity. They were curious, but at the same time, were keeping their distance.

Monkeys, their mind helpfully supplied. Monkeys that have most likely never seen a human, or a bipedal for that matter, in what I could only assume to be a very long time.

Deciding to move, they tried to wriggle their fingers, but to no use. It was still stuck, so they left it be for now. Instead, they inspected the pieces of stone gathering around their shoulders, and slowly but surely turned their head, accelerating the process. It's working. More pieces of stone fell from their head and hair, until finally, most of them had already fallen. [name]'s head and neck being free for the most part, they turned it to the side to look for any of her friends.

Unfortunately, no one could be seen.

[name] frowned. Not much better than being in that darkness.

Alright, that's enough. I shouldn't stay stationary for too long. They fought against the restriction caused by the stone, successfully freeing their hands. Then, their arms followed, their upper half, and last but not least, their lower half. They slid down to the floor, sighing. The school uniform as well as the lab coat had completely disappeared from their body, leaving them open. [name] would be more embarrassed, if it weren't for the state of the world they were in. It shouldn't matter as much as it did before

Still, prioritizing clothes should be pretty high on the list.

The teenager stood up, walking over to a patch of vines and leaves nearby. They took some and placed them on their body, acting as temporary clothes. It's been so long that their feet had been merged in the ground, and upon their movement, had left heavy footprints.

Out of nowhere, the loud screeches of other monkeys echoed throughout the forest, making [name] look towards their general direction. The ones that were staring them down a while ago had ran away at the sound, returning the screeches. I should avoid that area, who knows what's there that made them run away in fear. Instead of going towards there, they chose to continue forward. Statues surrounded the teen from all sides, all varying in sizes. Adults and children, all frozen in the very same state they were in prior. Most look to be running away, or at the very least, must have been trying to before they got petrified. Several of them had missing body parts ranging from arms, to legs, to even pieces of their head. Their hands reached out, their expressions horrified, their mouths open to call for help.

But no one came.

They stopped, head tilting to the side. To their left, they see a person sitting down on what it seems to be tree's huge roots. He was extremely muscular. His abs showed easily, and his whole body was buff. He leaned on his knees, while his long hair was left covering his expression. They weren't close enough to see the rest, but they didn't need to. They already knew who he was, after all.

Shishio Tsukasa, the strongest high school primate.

Or at the least, that's who he was towards the others.

However, to [surname] [name], he wasn't that.

He was only the kind acquaintance who had helped the [hair color]-haired student during his spare time in the library.

Taking note of the male's location in their head, they returned their gaze forward and journeyed once more. They passed by more statues, more broken pieces, more people frozen in time. More monkeys stayed in the trees and watched the teen carefully, not making any other move or noise. The only thing that [name] could pick up that had continued to change was the lessening of green. The plants, grass and trees were still abundant; however, as they moved further away from their origins, more land began to show itself compared to before.

The statues, just like her feet had been submerged in the dirt, had merged with the mountainside.

Least to say, it wasn't a pleasant sight. [name] immediately frowned and looked away, not wanting to focus on them any more than they already have.

Petite hands carefully pushed aside vines that had obstructed their vision, and lo and behold, the next scene made [name] smile and hold a chuckle to themselves.

"I'm going to build everything back up from zero.. A scientific civilization advanced enough to go back to space..!"

There he was, the man of the hour, kneeling down on one knee. He held a stick in his right hand, and on his left, he held down a log. Like them. his body was covered by a patch of leaves and vines. It seems that they hadn't taken notice of them quite yet. They watched as he spun the stick against the log repeatedly, but to no result.

Sen-chan's getting frustrated..

This time, they couldn't help the chuckle that escaped their lips.

The sound immediately made Senku stop, and slowly, he turned around. His eyes widened, and the look of disbelief as well as the smallest relief in his red eyes was evident as he called out their name. They smiled at him softly, moving towards his side, just as they had done all those years ago, in the Science Clubroom.

"Sen-chan.. it's been a long while."

Senku smirked in response, waving offhandedly. "Yeah. Now help me out, won't you?"

The taller of the two slumped down to the ground, groans of exhaustion escaping his mouth. [nickname] and I alone can't manage this for very long. The brute strength moron Taiju could do this, and even the handicrafts club's ultra skillful Yuzuriha could manage this no problem. [nickname] probably could spark it up by twisting this stick too, but how am I gonna do it especially with this humid air?! He called for his friend, only to receive no response. Speaking of that shortie..

He looked around. All he did was slump down to rest, and the [hair color]-haired teen was already gone from his sight. Where'd they go?

Groaning once more, he moved to stand up, but was immediately pushed back down by familiar petite hands. "Rest, Sen-chan." [name] smiled, patting his head affectionately. "We can't have the scientist running out of fuel." Reluctantly, he did as they wished, watching as they sat down on the ground as well. They adjusted their position for a few moments, before bringing out.. a flower crown?

Senku deadpanned, not able to hold back his grumpy retort. "Out of all the things you could have made, you made a flower crown. Really, [nickname]?" They laughed in response as they placed it on his head and fixing his hair. "I just wanted to know what your reaction was gonna be if I showed that first, Sen-chan. That's not just all I did, don't worry.." With a smile, [name] moved aside to show the objects sitting on the ground behind them, making Senku's smirk from earlier return.

Different kinds of rock have different uses. Chert is hard as hell, which makes it perfect for making a small knife out of.

"Already way ahead of me, huh?"

We'll investigate everything, and experiment with it all!

Taking the objects in his hold, he turned back to the teen. They stood, smiling and waiting for his next move. They were ahead of him, as if they shared the same brain he did. As if they were already connected to begin with.

I don't have claws or fangs. All I have is my steady, straight-forward ingenuity and them.

[nickname], the jack of all trades, but master of none, my friend and assistant.

"Will you do the honors?"

Not bothering with a reply, [name] neared the log and with barely any difficult, twisted the stick quickly. Smoke began to appear, so they stopped, buried it into a pile of leaves, and blew, watching as the fire slowly but surely spread. Senku, with the use of the axe that the shorter had made, quickly cut down more pieces of wood, before adding them to the lit up pile. A grin spreading on his face, he stared it down along with the [hair color]-haired teen.

There are a surprising number of animals that use tools. Crows, racoons, orangutans. But, of all species in this world.. there is only one that uses science!

"Generating heat from the oxidation of gas released from cellulose. In other words.. combustion."

[name]'s eyes stayed on the flames. The gradient colors sought their attention and refused to let it go from their grasp. It danced along with the calm whispers of the wind. Not turning their head, they spoke, "Sen-chan, you have a goal don't you?" For once, their voice had wavered, uncertainty seeping through. So much uncertainty that he couldn't help but detest the sound of it.

It was strange and illogical, especially considering he had wanted an inkling of emotion to show through aside from just that dead smile. But now.. the sight was detestable. Nonchalantly, he faced them, turning his whole body. He picked at his ear using his pinky and replied, "Of course I do. I'm going to restore the civilization from before, and then I'll proceed with my end-goal."

The same smile appeared on their face.

Senku supposed it was better than hearing doubt and uncertainty.

"I figured you'd say that." Turning their head, the small smile he had gotten used to.. was gone.

Instead, what replaced is a genuine grin, full of hope, happiness, and whole-hearted belief. "I have no doubt that you'll reach that goal. No, I'll ensure it. Ishigami Senku will reach his goal, and I will utilize myself so."

[name]'s whisper barely audible to his ears, but despite that, their voice and words echoed like a broken record throughout his head, unending. Yet, despite the determination and positivity it was supposed to bring, it brought a bit of the unexpected. His stomach did flips and flutters, dread and apprehension seeping in his bones.

Stop wording it like that, he wanted to say. I don't like it.

He couldn't bring himself to do that, and instead, faked a grin in return.

Since then, the two had worked together for days on end. On the way, they had achieved not only clothing, but a decent settlement up on the tree. It wasn't anything fancy, however, it wasn't too shabby either.

"Kukuku, the birth of every boy's dream treehouse! Now, we've finally collected all the necessities for survival." Senku spoke triumphantly, staring up at the building they had made. [name], a flower-crown adorning their head, adjusted their matching skirt from beside him, smiling. "Sen-chan did a good job.."

He chuckled dryly, "You say that as if you didn't do half of the stuff we needed to do without me saying anything." His smirk was stripped from his face as he continued blankly, "Now then.. It's about time. My 'ignoring all fatigue would be most logical' switch is at its limit.." With that, he collapsed completely, expecting to land harshly on the ground, but was pleasantly surprised to land on [name]'s arms instead. They adjusted his body gently, making sure that he was comfortable as they smiled down at him, shaking their head in amusement. They pat their skirt before sitting down, relaxing.

Senku, too tired to complain, just let his body lay in their hold. Damn it, even with [nickname] here.. Just surviving is taking every ounce of energy out of me. Let alone time for science progress.. I can't just let them do all the work. They'll get burnt out too, as much as they try to hide it. His nose scrunched at the thought. That'd be a bad scenario. If worst comes to worst for me, at least [nickname] will be able to cover in my stead. But if it happens to them instead, I wouldn't be able to do the same. I'm lucky that they could even catch animals often while doing manual labor.

If there was at least one more person.. someone with lots of physical strength and stamina. Someone who wasn't either of us.

"You know, Sen-chan, we both started from the area we got petrified in, right?" This time, [name]'s smile was knowing. "Perhaps we should pay Tai-chan a visit?" Senku smirked up at them for the nth time, "You just read my mind." They carefully pulled him up, dusting his shoulders and skirt as they did.

A few minutes of walking later, they watched as Senku walked again towards the hand reaching out from the ground. He begins digging, making [name] follow suit. Slowly but surely, they uncovered the statue, revealing it to be Taiju. This was the very same expression he had three millennia ago when he had gotten petrified. [name] assumed that he was protecting Yuzuriha just as Senku had tried to, but got separated just as they had.

[eye color] eyes softened as they see the quick relieved expression that passed by his face.

He stared down at their friend in silence, smirking not too long after. "Kukuku," he snickered, "Now there's a face I was so sick of seeing, I never thought I'd want to see again." [name] shook their head in amusement. What a lie, Sen-chan. "It's been a good long 3,700 years, hasn't it, you big clumsy oaf?"

Senku repeatedly tapped on the face of Taiju's statue, beaming innocently. "And now it's time for Senku's Investigation Lab to begin! C'mon, you oaf.. What's it gotta take to get you to revive like [name] and I did?" Wait.. speaking of [nickname], red eyes glanced over at the shorter's form, who merely sat on their knees, looking at the sky. I haven't asked for the details of their revival yet.

Sensing the male's stare, [name] instantly turned their head to him and tilted their head. What is it? They seem to be asking. "About your revival.. I haven't asked about the details yet. Mind telling me?" Was it dark for you as it was for me? Were you keeping yourself conscious 24/7? I was holding on for my goal, but how about you..? What on Earth could have kept you going so much that you ended up going as far as to wait 3,700 years just as I had done?

"It was dark." His eyes snapped back to their body, finding them to be looking at the sky once more. "I hated it there, because I was alone and it felt cold. I was really lonely." He wasn't usually keen on affection, but.. Senku couldn't help but feel sad, and gave their shoulder a pat. They didn't sound saddened, and somehow, that alone was enough to make him feel sympathy. [nickname].. Softer than he had intended, he asked again, "What kept you going?"

The tiny frown and the smallest of shrugs is what he received, and the taller couldn't help but feel aghast. "I'm not sure. I just imagined seeing you guys on the other end of the road.. and somehow, that alone was enough. I knew you were going to be alive even back then, because that's just how Sen-chan is." Senku snickered, "You're not wrong there. Your assumption, as illogical as it would be for other people, is ten billion percent correct."

He turned back to Taiju and waved offhandedly, as if shooing away the [hair color]-haired teenager's worries away from them. "Don't worry about it now. Let's make that a temporary goal of ours, and I'll help you out. That's the least I can do for you, considering you did most of the manual labor to get us where we are right now."

[name] smiled thankfully. "What are your possible theories, Sen-chan?" The taller of the two stared at the ground in thought. "I have quite a few."

Not long after he had explained, they walked back to Senku's spot of origin. The two had figured that it was an external source, and so, here they were, standing in front of a cave. Just like everything else, the entrance of the cave was overrun with vines and roots from the tree above, but fortunately enough for them, the opening was not occupied to the point of no enter.

The stone pieces closest to our heads had fallen first, with further pieces laying on top of them. In other words, when we had revived, it started from my head first. There must be some kind of key behind that direction! Red eyes widened as he caught sight of dripping from above. "Nitric acid.." Mumbled the shorter, making Senku nod in acknowledgement.

The male faced his [hair color]-haired friend. "Do you have any body parts that are still left petrified?" They nodded to his question, exposing their shoulder behind their clothing, revealing one medium-sized covering of stone. "Geez, you were doing manual labor even with a stoned shoulder? You should have told me." [Name] cheekily grinned at his grumbled response, replying, "No use grumbling about that now," with a giggle. "Besides, it only aches. It doesn't hurt like a wound or bruise would."

Senku rolled his eyes. Sometimes, he gets exasperated at the cheekiness of his friend. Honestly, the male turned back towards the dripping nitric acid. "Should I try it out with my shoulder?" They were surprised to receive a shake of his head. "No, it's better if you don't. If it goes wrong, you'll most definitely get affected negatively. That'll hinder our efforts and progress, not to mention you'll likely to get hurt." Instead, the scientist plucked a few strands of hair from the back of his neck, where small pieces of stone had stuck.

[name] watched as Senku walked forward towards the nitric acid and holding the hair strand out. Upon contact, the stone immediately burst into pieces. The grins on the two's faces matched as they made eye-contact. Immediately, the assistant rushed off to get a jar they had made and handed it to him, watching as the nitric acid started piling up within.

Not too long after they had placed the jar underneath it, the nitric acid had been filled almost completely, and Senku rushed to take it from the younger's hold. He splashed it on Taiju's face and sit down criss-cross, waiting. [name], after patting their skirt, sat on their knees beside him. They waited in silence, expecting the third person of their quartet to wake up.

Nothing.

Senku looked at the statue in confusion. Deciding to wait a bit more, he started whistling familiar songs out of boredom, [name]'s humming harmonizing with it.

Senku's face started contorting weirdly, making the shorter of the two of them choke and laugh. "Sen-chan, your faces are still as weird as ever." He grumbled in response, saying, "Don't laugh at me." This only proved to make them chuckle more.

After a short snickering fit, they turned serious once more, facing the statue of Taiju. "It isn't that easy then.. Something between us and him must be different." They shared a nod. Senku rushes back to their investigation lab, leaving [name] behind. The said teenager quickly took out more jars and placed them on the ground. They placed the first one under it before backing away, looking around for something to do.

Now that they look closely, there were flowers here too.

Taking it into their hands, they started skillfully weaving a flower crown. Occasionally, they'd get up and take replace the jar before going back to their sitting position and continuing the flower crown. With all the jars filled and covered with animal cloth, they carefully balanced it within their hold, walking ever so slowly back to their destination.

By the time they arrived, Senku had multiple birds on the floor. Tiny amounts of nitric acid were noticeable on them just as much as there were on some statue's heads, making it evident that he had been experimenting with the amount they had gathered prior. Senku sat criss-cross on the floor, frustrated with the lack of progress. Why did the nitric acid only work on us? He pressed his two fingers on the side of his forehead. It didn't have a single effect on Taiju, the swallows, or any of the statues I tested it on.. But why?!

What's the difference between them and us? Think! Even just a hypothesis is fine! Think! Thi—

clink, clink, clink

His thoughts, interrupted by the sounds of three jars gently being put down, caught his attention, making his red eyes dart over to [name]. They stared at him, blinking slowly. Their presence immediately brought an idea to his head, and soon, he sat up hurriedly, escaping to the cave of nitric acid they had found. What he left behind was a smiling [name], having pieced together his string of thought.

I've figured it out! 3,700 years.. that whole time, we were both still fully conscious!

The brain burns about 400kals a day. Over three thousand and seven hundred years, that comes out to over two trillion joules of energy.

[name] hummed, sitting down and looking down on the sky.

E=mc² is the foundation of science. Energy can never be created from nothing!

He breathed heavily, but did not stop, not until he had arrived at the entrance of the cave, staring.

That means.. that if Senku-chan / [nickname] and I can get rid of that something, then he/we can undo the petrification!

For now, the of us have got to experiment. It doesn't matter what. We just have to keep experimenting!

[name] sighed, picking at their fingers. There would only be one conclusion that they would resort to until Senku is able to recover their friends back.

On the other side, Senku poured the rest of the remaining nitric acid to bigger containers, sweat increasing by the second. I really wanted to try nital, the standard industrial corrosive agent.. Damn it, I don't have any alcohol.. It's so frustrating!

"Just believe, Sen-chan.."

A smile.

Another whisper lost to the wind.

Keep experimenting.. Keep experimenting.. Keep experimenting! The phrase repeated itself in his head like a chant, beckoning him, tempting him, no, making him do it.

Senku bit harshly into his thumb swiping it on his collar right after. Don't forget.. No matter how much this petrification seems like fantasy..

"No matter how long," they mumbled. "Sen-chan will achieve it. I believe in him, and I'm sure they do too." They dusted off their skirt after they moved from their position. A short walk towards the cave, they see Senku struggling with Taiju in his hold. "There is not enough manpower around here, even with you and me, [nickname]." Senku panted out.

"That's why you gotta hurry up and eat that nitric acid to wake up already! The hell's taking you so long, you scruffy-headed scatter-brained oaf? Your little sibling will collapse if they continue to work this hard unsupervised!" He stepped not too harshly on Taju's head, making [name] shake their head. "That's an exaggeration, Sen-chan," they grumbled.

"Is not," he replied right back.

They rolled their eyes in reply, making Senku snicker.

"Besides," he turned back to the statue, "I know you want to wake up too! For the past three thousand and seven hundred years, you've wanted it.. because you're just like me and [name]. You can't stand to give on anything, especially with a goal!"

Senku grit his teeth and continued, "I believe in you. [name] believes in you. We both believe in you, and we'll wait as long as it takes.. because neither of us can't do this without you."

Various emotions showed on his face, from sadness to want. The shorter of the two placed a hand on his shoulder, smiling before speaking in sync,

"Come back, Taiju!"
