TMNT SHREDDER'S REVENGE - BG ART (pt. 3)
Some samples of my work on TMNT SHREDDER'S REVENGE as BG artist.
My work consisted in doing pixel art in-game assets for all the stages.
I was provided with a PSD file featuring collision boxes and sketches already laid out by Stéphane Boutin. As long as I kept the colliders and the key narrative sections intact, I had plenty of freedom to change and add colors, details and everything, really.
I made all the BG assets (foreground, parallax layers, and main ground), and the NYC world map.
Some observations:
- Stages 1 and 2 were the ones I worked the least, having the chance to add just slight tweaks and foreground assets.
- The pixel art for levels 3 and 5 was at first assigned to Derek Ung and Stèphane Boutin respectively. I was then asked to apply heavy reworks on the foundation they set up.
- I didn't make any breakable objects, or animations. I was assigned to make the base sprite for some of those, however.
I also, had the luxury to have my work supervised by Adam Marin (art director), which is one of my favorite pixel artists and an absolute joy to work with. His constant tips and advices made my work easier and I've learnt a lot from all of them.
I feel honored and humbled to have had the chance to work on this. It's been a blast and I'm very happy with how all these bits of pixel art turned out in the end.
Thank you so much, Tribute Games and Dotemu.
I hope we get to work together in the future.

When word dropped that we were getting a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game in the style of fan favorite TMNT arcade game, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time” (1991), we just about came out of our shells. And the more we learned about it, the more the hype sustained us like an extra-large pizza with marshmallows and pepperoni.
“Shredder’s Revenge” (2022) came to us from “Streets of Rage 4” (2020) developers Dotemu and Tribute Games, who worked on “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game” (2010) and previously developed TMNT games for the GameBoy Advance. A beat ‘em up pedigree established, we also learned that the actors from the 1987 television series would return for one last ride in the Turtle Van. Combine that with a soundtrack featuring Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Mega Ran, and Mike Patton and you’re in for a shell of a good time.
Streaming tonight at 7:30 Central, we’re playing Shredder’s Revenge with you! Head to the Life Begins at 8-Bit discord to share Switch friend codes. What other 2022 games await us? Only one way to find out.

I'm not a Big Fan of Miyamoto Usagi having Blue Eyes when they should be Pink like in the Comics but I guess this is Cartoon Accurate anyway so, oh well

Would've been cool if Lord Dregg is like the New Last Boss in some DLC for Shredder's Revenge so I can have Casey Jones fight him but oh well...

omg wait did i forget to post my model sheet on here?
this is dahlia! she's been an oc of mine since like... 2020??? and here's her if she were in wonder boy! this is based on the dotemu remake (which is really good and you should try out!!!) and mostly this concept art for wonder girl!
i really love this game! my dad was a massive fan of it back when he was a kid and he'd play it in front of me, so, when we found the reboot, we tried it out and it was brilliant!
ALSO!! you'll notice generally when it comes to my taste in games, a large portion of what i like consists of sega/playstation classics. you can thank my dad for that.
rant aside, i'm currently using this model sheet to practice character modelling in blender! it's terrifying and horrible. i love it! /gen
