One dolphin swim for the sake of memory
AT AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION SOMEWHERE IN THE BAHAMAS: Peter Potamus, freediver extraordinaire, can relate plenty of memorable tales about experiences in the uncharted reaches of Polynesia, and in a rather likable sort of way.
Especially when it comes to dolphins, and swimming along with them.
One especially memorable and yet fascinating exercise in this respect (naked, naturally, and with a wonderful-looking Polynesian native in tow, obviously) was lead-in to an especially fascinating sort of dolphin swim that the Peter Potamus Magic Divers, as well as his guests of no less than yours truly, Huckleberry Hound and the Hair Bear Bunch, fell practically head over heels for at some remote part of the Bahamas group.
And to imagine no less than 15 divers in the company of some especially playful dolphins in Bahamanian waters has certainly got to be one for stirring the senses ... after all, much has been studied and written about the sheer intellect, grace and beauty of dolphins, not to mention where many such, going back to Ancient Greece even, have had close friendships with humans such as can be especially memorable!
It just seemed as if our cetacean companions and compadres couldn't help but want to make us feel welcome in some especially fabulous, almost primeval even, coral reefs as seem untouched to the point of utterly fantastic ... especially the lupine members of our dive company, as in Loopy De Loop, Hokey Wolf and Mildew Wolf, who for some reason had an especially memorable sort of experience with dolphinkind, in particular that self-appointed "good wolf" seeking to challenge conventional stereotypes and myths about wolves, only to fail all too often!
Who could guess how Lippy the Lion and Breezly Bruin especially had been approached by certain dolphins of this pod as joined in our escapade, getting some gentle nuzzling of their necks with the dolphins' beaks, and feeling rather delighted, perhaps to the point of hearing slight giggles underwater as dolphin affection became all the more obvious with our dive crew?
But leave it, more or less, to Squiddly Diddly, our videographer in these exploits, to as much capture the awe and fascination of wild dolphins crossing paths with us divers as relate sheer contrast to how Bubbleland treated its dolphins back in the day ("Nothing less than objects of show, doing much the same hokey drills for what passed as 'performances' to amuse the visitors from Iowa! And just faking their delight and satisfaction; still, though, it may have been more or less the times when I was at Bubbleland under Chief Winchley explaining such thought towards dolphins...."). Still, you have to hand it to Squiddly to sense what real interaction unto a real dolphin in the wild waters of the Caribbean must be like ... and it must have felt like love, come to think of it!
The very sight even amazing the Hair Bear Bunch, come to think of it!
Still, a great experience was had by all ... and just a heads up: For the sake of the Christmas holiday, there will be no postcard next Monday, which happens to be Christmas Day this year. But look for one next week instead at this time.

I thought I was losing it but no, kh1 Sora's fast swimming animation really does change after you've been to Atlantica. It's a small detail, but also a cute and smart one 🥺

Hello darling. With all baby dolphin fever asks I have a question.
How would boys react to Y/n being gone and hurt by protecting the baby from the boys enemy? I can see enemies of the orca Mafia seeing y/n and the baby as the weakness of the boys, and then trying to use poor mama and a newborn to gain something from orcas, and as we know a good parent will protect their baby at all cost, what can lead to a fight. How would they boys react to finding out that their mate and the baby dissapeared? That their mate wa share to protect the young one?
Kisses ickove your work!
The orca sirens are very protective of their mate and their newborn, so to have Dolphin Y/N somehow leave all of their sights, and then go missing in a very short amount of time would trigger a full-blown hunting mode for Eclipse, Sun, and Moon. They quickly mobilize every single siren under their power and search far and wide for their sweet dolphin siren and the child. The powerful mafia leaders are frantic with fear and uncertainty. How did this happen? Where is their darling dolphin siren?
Eclipse discovers Y/N in a dark, icy alcove, not too far from the center of their terrorism after a full day and night. They're exhausted and bleeding from a clear siren shark bite on their tail. They're limply curled around their baby as the little one cries. Eclipse startles them with his sudden emergence from the sea, but then they sob in relief. One of their mates found them. After he pulls them close, softly shushing them and promising it's alright, he will keep them safe, he examines their wounds and ensures the baby is unharmed. Y/N needs help. Y/N protected their child, but it's clear there was a great struggle as Y/N is close to passing out from the fear and exertion of it all. Eclipse takes both of them into his arms and swims as quickly as he can while holding them. He burns internally, having to hide his gnashing teeth to not startle the newborn and let Y/N rest, but he is seeing red.
Whoever touched his mate will suffer greatly, and only after will he slaughter them. First, he will take care of Y/N and the baby.
Sun and Moon are equally relieved and horrified to find Eclipse returning with their mate, bleeding and unconscious. Eclipse takes the newborn while Sun and Moon attend to their injuries, closing them as best as they can while allowing Y/N to rest. Sun and Moon are furious and want answers, but they all have to wait for Y/N to wake up and regain their strength. Soon, Y/N revives with their head on Moon's tail/lap. Sun softly coaxes them to awareness with the promise of food. Eclipse is very close with their little one and helps them to hold the baby while they retell what happened exactly.
They had simply gone drifting with their little one, wanting to stretch their tail and flex their fins, barely out of sight from other members of the pod, only to be ambushed. A Greenland shark siren attacked them. Y/N swam fast and fought hard to keep the shark from harming their baby but suffered wounds themselves. The siren kept attempting to capture Y/N and take them somewhere, but they refused, fueled by a primal instinct to shield their child. The siren eventually lost them in a field of ice floe, and then Y/N found the ice cave. They didn't know what to do. They weren't certain if they got the siren off their tail They were so afraid. Eclipse, Sun, and Moon bristle equally, but this is no stranger. Y/N and the boys are familiar with the perpetrator.
They've had difficulties with others accepting their power of influence. Of course, they've had some would-be members of their pod slip away or quietly skirt their area of the sea in anger but this is worse. A shark siren of this description was one of their underlings. The siren had difficulty with obedience in the past but the brothers believe they had smothered that rebellious streak. They see clearly now that they've been too merciful. The member attacked their mate and their child and attempted to steal them away. For what? Leverage? Power? As if the brothers would allow the siren to hold their mate over their heads and bring harm to the precious newborn.
The shark siren would be foolish to hang around after a failed attempt to steal the orca sirens' mate, but Eclipse, Sun, and Moon are patient hunters. For now, they shush Y/N and reassure them that they are safe. They are not leaving their sights ever again, and softly stroke the baby's head until their darling mate falls asleep, still recovering from the ordeal.
But they plot quietly, calmly. Day after day, night after night, they will scour and they will stalk, and when they find the siren that touched their mate, they will turn the ocean red.

Whalemack!
He’s a gray/grey whale, very nice and VERY big (though about half the size of a blue whale). He’s been mostly solitary for a while, sometimes joining other whales on their migrations, but then he starts collecting little mer children that make travel hard. I’ll probably add some scars from boats/etc to this design. And we need to figure out if mers have tattoos 🧐

If you ever go on a dolphin tour boat and your guide permits passengers to feed or jump in the water with wild dolphins, entices the dolphins closer to the boat with various forms of bait, chases after them, or attempts to corral them with other boats for a better viewing experience, please report them to Fish & Wildlife for violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Feeding, touching, or harassing any marine mammal is prohibited in US waters. Document the violations if you can.
The beach town where I’m staying for my internship is full of dolphin tour boat companies who condone or even practice these illegal, harmful activities. It’s very disturbing to see locals and tourists alike posting on social media about their ~magical wild dolphin encounters~ without knowing or caring about the danger to the animals. Wild dolphins need to stay wild. They cannot rely on humans for food. They cannot lose their wariness of boats. Not to mention it’s unsafe for you. Dolphins are intelligent, wonderful creatures, but they’re not the gentle, benevolent entities popular media has made them out to be—they’re large, powerful, wild animals that deserve respect. Please enjoy observing wild dolphins from a safe distance, and if you ever find yourself approached in the water, let them pass by you undisturbed.

Postcards from Snagglepuss
Now THIS is diving!!!
Scene to hand: The cabin Peter Potamus has in the Florida Keys, access only by boat for the most part, where he's been fond of doing some diving in a diver's paradiso among diver's paradisos, especially when there's company along.
And especially so wearing but yourself, as Nature perchance insisted (so Peter Potamus explained as we were getting ready for this particular dive session, with Huckleberry Hound and the Hair Bear Bunch along, citing the experience in Polynesia Uncharted, "and perhaps a few other primitive cultures we have yet to know about!").
It was in the shallows of the Atlantic off the cay where the cabin was situated that our company of six gathered, utterly waist high for the most part (even if it was high tide), preparatory to the dive. And you can certainly tell that Peter Potamus lost not an iota of his storied charm in explaining that the reefs we were diving into, while quite substantial, were likewise as much beautiful as dangerous, especially with certain coral species. Not to mention the reminder that coral, as a living thing, should not be touched under any circumstance.
... and what a dive such turned out to be, quite the aquaphilic sort of experience! No wonder the dolphins couldn't help but enjoy our very company, canine, ursine, leonine, and hippopotami even, approaching that particularly fascinating section of reef about 20 feet down which had especially Hair Bear and Square Bear delighted to the point of arousal (which was bound to be expected anyway, come to think of it!). Especially stunning was the sheer explosive sight of new coral polyps "blossoming" themselves into the water, as if such were an offering to the gods of the seas!
Diving, believe you me, was never like this. Especially in the company of such a stoked-for-the-dive character as Peter Potamus!
(But then again, Hair Bear related something rather interesting over grilled sea bass later in the day about the dive experience: "I never knew that a dolphin could be seriously delighted to have me as a dive companion! Just imagine it, me diving close to the bottom when this rather beaut dolphin approaches me, I swim close to her belly ... and what a caress ensued! She certainly was not disappointed in me!" And being witness myself to this display, I could not have sensed a more wonderful show of underwater affectation which this pussycat will long remember!)
