I’m feeling festive, what do you think would be the best gift for each of the Links for their version of Christmas?
HMMM i had to do some thinking here:
Time: 101 Minecraft Jokes for Kids /j. I think Time would appreciate like a foot roller or smth. idk as a person in my mid-20s, foam rollers are a life saver
Warriors: fancy soap. like the handmade kind you get from some bird name Wanda at your local high school's craft show.
Twilight: a nice fishing lure even though he has plenty
Sky: some kind of collection keeper. like a penny passport
Wild: burn salve /j a novelty hot sauce sampler
Legend: a nice wallet (and/or wallet chain)
Hyrule: a case of red bull
Four: nice leather gloves of maybe a patterned headband
Wind: a cypher wheel and/or invisible ink pen

I love learning ASL it’s so good. Makes me happy to learn it. I’m so glad my university has classes for it with professors actually steeped in Deaf culture.
#blue chatter#am I good at ASL? hahahahahahaha. no.#ASL and English grammar are incredibly different and even when I remember my vocab I am easily clockable as hearing#but I do have some language capacity now. enough to communicate the basics.#and I just. genuinely really enjoy it. it’s fun to learn and engaging in a way most of my classes just aren’t.#and I can. yanno. communicate respectfully w Deaf ppl. and learn about their culture#which is incredibly important given that I want to go into a field where there is a higher incidence than typical of Deaf people#autistic? you’re more likely to be Deaf!#not to mention the fact that sign language can sometimes be a useful alternative to speech for nonspeaking/nonverbal people#depending on the person obvi; some nonspeaking/nonverbal autistics cannot use sign language and that’s okay#but surely at some point I will encounter either a Deaf client or a nonspeaking/nonverbal client who uses ASL#and when that time comes I should have some idea of how to communicate with them#I also rly like the Deaf church by my parents’ house#their community is really welcoming and their services are really interesting#I think it’s rly cool how they take intentions directly from the congregation#they’ll raise their hands and then sign what their intention is from their pew to the ambo#which is rly neat#it is funny bc every time I go the Deaf ppl I talk to will tell each other ‘go slow she’s hearing’#which is ENTIRELY fair bc. I am hearing. and I do need them to go slower.#but it also makes me laugh bc truly everyone knows within a few minutes.#oh hey the new person? they’re hearing. yeah they’re learning ASL at college. sign slowly for her.#which again makes sense bc a big Deaf culture thing is keeping ppl informed. it’s not gossip it’s getting everyone on the same page.#Deaf ppl do NOT beat around the bush that is like the height of rudeness to them. u say what u mean goshdangit. do not waste their time.#which I appreciate the heck out of bc i don’t have to try and phrase things delicately or w/e#it was also funny bc my mom came w me while I was home for Christmas and they asked her if I was her kid#and she said yes. and the lady running the kid’s craft corner thing was like ‘great you’re doing a craft now’#and I’m sitting there. visibly over 18 years old. amongst several seven year olds. trying desperately to figure out how to say hot glue gun#I made a v pretty pinecone tree it was a lot of fun ^-^

Well, the craft fair has come and gone. I feel like I might have had a good time? Sales weren't overwhelming, but they were constant and I made back booth fee + some extra money for coffee and cannabis. More mutterings on the matter under the cut...
Of the 21 Christmas minis I specifically made for the event, 10 remain. The new bird leg book I made for the fair sold, along with several of my older monsters-- the pink legged one, the green legged one, and the Capricorn. Happy to see them gone.
The real winner was the crimson alcohol edged Fleur du Mal mini-- purchased immediately upon fair opening and envied by someone else who eventually settled on the loquat dyed copy pictured above. Unfortunately, I was so busy prepping for fair I never actually photographed my most popular book!
Am on the fence about doing another holiday craft fair... Am haunted by the memory/fact that I used some less-than-stellar cover paper on a couple pieces-- a fact that I only noticed after seeing how scuffed my remaining copy was after lugging it home ungently. 🙈 hurts to consider some of my work floating out there not being up-to-snuff, especially given I charged for it. Still not fond of that....
I'd wanted to know how well I worked, crafting at full tilt. Do things get easier when aiming for 'mass production'? NO. Will I ever try and binge crafting books like this again? NO. Do I want to 'make books professionally'? NO.
The positive take aways are that I enjoy working on things in sets of 5. I enjoy my new travel-crafting setup for minis. I enjoy expanding my mini typeset collection to draw from. Seeing my mini shelf temporarily packed w/ the leftovers before I disperse them makes me happy.
Special shout out/thanks to @aetherseer for gifting me so many small sheets of excellent paper and apologies that I failed to photograph most of them. Her taste is impeccable and it elevated my work from the normal ho-hum selection of origami paper I indulge in.

Designed and stitched a little Fair-Isle-inspired ornament for a friend for Secret Santa. Finished piece is 18-count aida in a 3-inch hoop painted in red acrylic.

[ID: first photo is a close-up of a cross stitch hoop taken above from an angle. The red-painted hoop contains very light beige aida fabric, with an outlined christmas ornament stitched on it in red, green, tan, black, and gold thread, decorated in a series of geometric patterns. The second photo is of this cross stitch hoop hanging in a christmas tree near assorted ornaments. /.End ID]

My grammy just called me and was like
"Are you SURE there isn't anything you want for Christmas besides a PRINTER???"
Shes so done with me and my mom lol
#my mom asked for a nail gun#and a new vacuum sealer although thats *technically* for my dad but he would rather just not celebrate Christmas#i went ahead and asked for a rock tumbler#she ALSO got me a decorative knife at the craft fair tho#which is why i hadnt asked for the rock tumbler until now#cuz that knife was 60 dollars#its very pretty tho 🥺#its opalescent glass with a.....i think wood handle but they also had ones with deer antler handles#and i cant remember which one i picked#WE'RE PRACTICAL PEOPLE GRAMMY#WE ASK FOR PRACTICAL THINGS#like idk man if i want like a book or movies or games or some shit and have the money for it i just buy it#like im not gonna wait for a specific day for it#i impulse buy things i just WANT#im less likely to impulse buy things i actually need#i need a printer (mostly a scanner but getting an all in one printer makes a lot more sense than just buying a scanner)#so i can digitize my art#cuz im far more comfortable doing physical art and then touching it up on my computer than i am doing straight digital art#also i wanna get into fan binding and stuff#cuz if i have to go to another location to print or scan things im just not gonna do it#its too many extra steps#also i miss having a printer#a rock tumbler would also be appreciated tho#ive wanted one since i was a little kid#so has my mom#AND I HAVE SO MANY ROCKS I WOULD LIKE TO POLISH#also i wanna see what happens if you tumble driveway gravel#one of my baby cousins gifted me some while i was drunk at a family bonfire and i almost cried#i need to test its mohs hardness tho#it probably wont get shiny
