Writeblr Intro

Hello, Writeblr. I joined to connect with other writers, especially folks who write/are into LGBTQIA+ sci-fi/fantasy stories. I’d love to connect with writers looking to hype each other up and get excited for each other about our stories!

Sunset, a serial fiction in three arcs (Sunrise, High Noon, Sunset), is posted weekly on our Patreon where you can support us while getting fun extras. You can also find Sunset on Wattpad & AO3 a week after Patreon. *Sunset is now getting an audiobook version for accessibility! More info here.*

Sunset is a slow-burn of mounting tension and stakes that only get higher with expansive worldbuilding and a majority LGBTQIA+ ensemble cast that has something for everyone from espionage to adventure to romance and even a dash of monster hunting.

Sunset is written by myself and my partner/co-writer @touloserlautrec who also does all the artwork and "issue" covers.

When asked to sum up my WIP badly as a joke I usually go with: Telepaths ruin everything.

Actual blurb:

Joey sees the history of everything and everyone he touches as translucent blue ghosts acting out the past all around him. And this includes his own past, which is how Joey knows he wasn't born, he was made. Made and thrown away. What he doesn't know is that the people who made him, SolCorp, are actively working to find him and bring him "home" to be with others that have supernatural knacks like Joey. Neither one has any idea how much that will change them both forever.

SolCorp was founded to hide the existence of knacked people and their myriad of superhuman powers from the world, keeping humans safe from out-of-control knacks and keeping knacked people safe from human intolerance. So when they discover that one rogue Sol scientist had generated 25 babies with a defective Probability Manipulation knack and abandoned them out in the world fourteen years ago, it's up to SolCorp to find them and bring them back. But maybe their knacks weren't so defective after all because as three of the Venus 25 grow into adulthood, improbable things start happening that will change SolCorp and the world forever.

How long have you been writing, like in general? I am curious how long it took to gain skill, yknow. Kinda finished my first chapter and wow, my lack of education really shines though; not self-deprecating, it's kinda exciting knowing that hey it sucks for now, but when I get better I can just start from scratch all over again.

On and off since high school I suppose. My first foray into fiction was like 06 on my Gaia online journal. I never finished that story, obviously, and it wasn't until mlp:fim I finished my first fic. I wrote maybe 160k words or something like that total over the 2ish years. Most of which was a fairly niche AU I don't think most have heard of. After about 2013 I took another few years and then got into RWBY and wrote a few one shot shipfcs around 2016-17 and went dormant until about 2022, when I wrote my first HDG story, I put a spell on you. Dog of War is my first time making a one singular story as long as it is, and I started that late February this year. At (currently) just seven words shy of 115k, it's more than twice as long as anything I've written and the story I think is far more solid as it's own story.

Needless to say, it gets better the more you do it! Reading to see how other people do it also helps but in the end, finding your own style is what's best.

Tracking my transits this year!

I took notes from Saturn in transit by Erin Sullivan and Planets in transit by Robert Hand

Saturn square Jupiter (Feb 3-Mar 23 - if you have Jupiter in Sagittarius at 9° the dates are the same for you)

suddenly deflate what was once a growing proposition, creating a predicament where we must consider whether or not the current conditions have become over inflated or unrealistic

Def been in that mindset like omg what is life what am I doing and is what I’m asking for unrealistic 😂 word for word asked myself that when I put $115k in the salary request box of a job application like I’m not a fully barred attorney 💀💀💀 and then they ghosted me so I was like omg even if it’s not unreasonable THEY must think it isssss

Requires that we look at our social ambitions and how we achieve them / Evaluate goals and the methods by which we might achieve them

Def been thinking about it! I keep saying I want more friends and don’t go anywhere lol so I signed up for the alumni association from my undergrad to find out about events and go socialize lol haven’t actually been to an event yet tho 😬 and this weekend I actually said yes to going out the same day with my friend! Yesterday the 23rd my phone was so DRY I think I sent two texts the entire day and no one contacted me and I was so bored 😩 but also feeling lonely like if I was living with someone at least another human would be here you know??

This has been the most felt thing for me this transit!! All of February and March so far I’ve only left my apt 7 times to go somewhere and one of those times all I did was walk over to the leasing office that’s next door 😂 I also stopped walking on my walking pad and during this time one of my friends got a job and it had me spiraling for a second bc we started looking for jobs at the same a year and a half ago and this was her second job she started and I haven’t even gotten an interview! And at the same time this intern at my job got offered an attorney position and I was like ?? I’ve been here for almost 3 years?? I also didn’t want it 😂 but still!!! And my other friend who just gave birth found another job in like 2 months and I’m like omgggg what am I doing wrong?? Low key 👀 could be bc none of the jobs I’ve seen and applied to were exciting to me 😭😬

If a genuine attempt to realize our fantasies and embody our beliefs is made saturn will assist in creating the structure necessary for the realization of those grand plans / tests how well you have our your life together especially for finances, business, and your profession / If it’s not working, let it go or it’ll be more trouble when the Saturn Jupiter opposition comes

This has been going okay for me bc I found myself being in a teacher position when it comes to finances bc I did set them up to work properly for me and was able to pass on that knowledge to fam and friends who needed some help! Another goal was to get back into cooking for myself so I started looking up recipes and buying those ingredients and I bought actual Tupperware too!

Critical reform in our attitude towards society and its strata

I’ve literally been so pissed off about the world especially living in the US and I’m no longer thinking of “lesser of two evil” bc they’re all evil and it sucks that humans can’t just be alive and it be enough

Hard angles will bring awareness to how ineffective we can be and how that might be changed / The positive result is redefining our strategy and and a good long self evaluation about loyalties

Boundaries! Going NC with my mom last year happened so sudden that I didn’t think about how I would handle her coming up in conversation with other people and I’ve had to tell them oh I’m NC I have nothing to say about that! The other day my aunt called me to order me to pray for my mother and I had to hang up on her bc I told her no and to change the topic and she continued and then texted me “that was not nice” lmao girl and yelling at me on the phone is? Tf? And the next day she acted like nothing happen which she does when she knows she was wrong. So had to think about whether I have to cut her off too bc she’s obviously chosen her narc sister 🤷🏾‍♀️

I don’t think this has come up bc I haven’t left my apt lol I also haven’t felt frustrated against any oppressor I mean unless you count being frustrated with the genocides but I feel like that’s more of a global thing

Yeah bc I just spent so much money in March Lmao but it’s bc I booked a trip to Amsterdam! I think this is the most I’ve spent in so long! I also bought a piece of furniture two weeks ago lol

Activities from 7 years ago are being tested to see if they have a real importance

My entire life?!? I was literally doing everythingggggg in 2017! Graduated college, started law school, broke up with my bf after 3yrs, moved to the city I’m still in, my cousin and I got back in contact bc we were on the same flight sitting together, also met people that I’m still friends with today. I hate saying it but I really think it’s law school 🤣 working has not been exciting at all especially bc it seems all the jobs now wanna pay so low and I’d rather stay where I am!

Don’t make up your mind until this transit is over

This transit happening with my 10H Jupiter makes me think it’s the career stuff I should be making up my mind over lol I started the transit with a meeting with my mentor Feb 9 and she said she has a friend working in immigration and if I wanted to volunteer to get that experience and idk how I felt about it bc how much of a difference would it really make?? But also having this extra thing to do could be helpful so I wouldn’t get so bored when there’s nothing to do at work 😭 I haven’t said anything to her yet so still thinking about it!

WIP Update - 21 Dec 2022

Had another nicely productive writing week - I touched 8 fics (3 WIPs & 5 new works) for a total of 2472 words, taking me over 115k for the year!

On Ao3, I posted an Avengers bonding fic (with bonus pining!Steve), a fluffy Bucky vs Natasha, Sam & Steve drabble, a Thor & Bruce post-Ragnarok ficlet, A WinterIron meet-cute (with bonus Morgan!), a semi-cracky Bucky & Sam & Nebula ficlet, a semi-cracky Sam, Bucky & Steve ficlet and a Stony secret relationship High School AU ficlet. The Stucky Bingo December 2022 Round Robin that I participated in was also posted.

On Tumblr, I posted a SamBucky Christmas getting together ficlet (that will be on Ao3 later this week)

Am down to 12 active WIPs (with a couple of maybe TBCs) with my current deadline being the Man with a Plan, Starkbucks and Bucky Barnes bingos coming in close behind!

Avengers Bingo [AvB] (Runs thru 24 Dec ) - ALL WRITTEN - Goal = BLACKOUT!

Fourteen fills posted (14 to Ao3) and 0 WIPs - Everything is written!!! I just need to edit and post to get my blackout on this 4x4 card!!! I decided to further challenge myself on this 16-square card by pairing up each square with a unique combo of 2 original MCU Avengers, with the final square being dealers’ choice. Thanks again to the STB Enthusiasts Discord folks for helping me match pairings to squares - I think they worked out pretty well overall!

* B4 - Age Gap - Finished up Caught By the Rain and Blinded by the Lightning - a Thor/Tony post CA:CW PWP crossing over with TSB One Night Stand. It came in at 1256 words & is scheduled for Ao3 on 12/23.

* D2 - Romeo & Juliet AU - Two Cliques: Alike in Dignity posted this morning - Steve (jock) & Tony (geek) trying out for title roles in R&J - despite their respective friend groups objections/grousing about the other clique. It came in at 327 words.

Man With a Plan (Steve Rogers) Bingo [MWAPB] (Runs thru 31 Dec)

Seventeen fills, two bingos (Row 5 & Col I) 3 WIPs - shooting for a Row 2/Column O bingo as well. Since the event was pretty much abandoned by its creator (life happens, I get it), I’m finishing this pretty much out of stubbornness and may carry some squares over for inspiration into the new year.

* I1 - Steve is here for TFAtWS - Passing the Torch posted this morning - a moodboard for this square paired with a ficlet for my BBB “Oh, hell no" square - Bucky POV (with some extra insider info) of the events where Sam is given Cap’s shield. It came in at 339 words.

* G4 - Canon Divergence post CA:TWS - possible crossover with BBB Kill List – Bucky wreaking havoc on Hydra bases and Steve & Sam catch up with him. Not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so probably won’t get done.

* G5 - Friends to Lovers - claimed this with Never Have I Ever (But I’d Like to With You) a pining!Steve POV of the team playing NHIE where he manages to get one over on Tony. * B1 - “I wouldn’t mind wasting my time on you.“ - Possible crossover with BBB - KINK: Seduction Mission? Not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so probably won’t get done.

* I2 - Mistaken Identity - crossover with TSB K5 - Protectiveness - “The Mechanic, The Soldier & The Artist” - mob/assassin AU with a Mr. & Mrs. Smith twist? Not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so probably won’t get done.

* I3 - “Oh dear.” - Wrote up a remix ficlet of Leading Questions - Tony POV on the stressful interview and the immediate aftermath. It came it at 255 words and is scheduled for 12/27.

* I4 - Canon: Avengers Academy - will probably do Stuffed Marvels sketches of Tony and Winter, as I know very little about the game/canon. It’s on my Bingo Attack plan list, but at the bottom, so don’t hold your breath.

* N3 - FREE - Filled this with An Act of Kindness, a fluffy meet-cute with Tony & Morgan needing a bit of help from the handsome stranger standing in line at the coffee shop. It came in at 545 words and has a sequel coming as part of a stocking challenge that gets revealed on the 26th.

* N5 - “Wanna make a bet?” Used this in combination with the Day 18 Fictober (“I don’t think this is your problem.”) and Flufftober (Soulmate AU) prompts for Marked-Up Soulmarks - a soulmate AU where Tony discovers he and Steve have something (and someone) in common. I may expand on this before posting it to Ao3 and/or claiming it as an official fill. Currently coming in at 418 words.

* G4 - Pepper Potts - continue Open Up Your Heart (And Let the Truth Come Out) - Tony POV? This is on my Bingo Attack plan list, but at the bottom, so don’t hold your breath.

* O1 - Royalty - crossover with TSB - IronWidow & BBB AU: Arranged Marriage - pick Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion back up - the current chapter is sitting at 595 words and would need to be 800 min to fill all 3 squares. It may not make this bingo’s deadline, but possibly BBB?

* O5 - AU: Biker - Grease 2 fusion anyone? 😁 I watched the movie a month or so ago and took notes - It’s not gonna be a faithful adaptation, but hopefully fun - had another mini-brainstorm on this that led to last Friday’s No Ordinary Boy ficlet, but that didn’t go far enough into the story to count toward this square. Will post this ficlet on 12/26 with the faint hope of getting more done before the deadline, but it’s not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so don’t hold your breath!

Not really expecting to get anything more done on this card, unfortunately. 😔

Bucky Barnes Bingo - Round 4 [BBB_R4] (Runs thru 7 Jan 2023)

Seventeen fills, four WIPs & ideas for everything except one square - Row 1 bingo achieved - shooting for Column B, Column K and maybe Row 3 as well. Hoping we can carry squares over into the next round.

* B3 - Sam Wilson|Falcon - Chapter 2 of After One Or Two False Starts is in good shape. It switches to Bucky POV and is currently sitting at 315 words. Targeting 1/6 to post it.

* U2 - AU: Roommate - Still wanting to use the Meet Ugly prompt: 02. I bought a house three months ago but I’m finally moving in and discover you’ve been squatting because you’re homeless – probably WinterHawk with recovering!Bucky being the squatter in Clint’s apartment building. However, this is not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so don’t hold your breath.

* U4 - AU: Arranged Marriage - will probably pick Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion back up for this one. See SBB Royalty for details.

* C2 - “Oh, hell no” - see MWAP I1 - Steve is here for TFaWS

*C3 - FREE Filled this with A Disarming Request - a Bucky & Nebula fic written in response to (and therefore spoiling) the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It came in at 306 words and was posted on Tuesday.

* C4 - KINK: Aftercare - see MWAPB Sex Pollen above

*C5 - “This might as well happen” - Used this for the Sept BBB Round Robin (crackfic - Emperor’s New Groove inspired) wrote 276 words toward it. Looks like I’ll get to count it, just need to submit a square fill form.

* K1 - Thighs - Ended up expanding on a 3 prompts --> summary game response and ended up with Card Sharks. It’s a drabble where Bucky is playing strip poker with Steve, Natasha and Sam - and things are not going well (or going extremely well, depending on your point of view). 100 words and posted on Sunday.

* K3 - KINK: Edging - working on Hanging By A Moment - (Bucky POV with toy play and Tony as a power bottom) crossing over with TSB K3 - KINK: Orgasm Denial/Edging - - currently 639 words and just about done; it’s scheduled to post on 12/30. I might add an epilogue as a separate chapter to get C4 - KINK: Aftercare square as well.

* Y2 - Never the fall that kills you - this might be the title for a reverse hanahaki WinterIron prompt from @lacrimula-falsa …. but is not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so don’t hold your breath.

* Y4 - KINK: Seduction Mission - crossover with SBB - B1 - “I wouldn’t mind wasting my time on you.” & “It wasn’t wasted” Not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so probably won’t get done. Hopefully I can carry squares over into the next round!

* O4 - AU: Supernatural - got inspired by a dream to start a Stucky fantasy AU (magician!Steve/ensorcelled!Bucky) that @bill-longbow is collaborating on with me. This was supposed to fill my Man with a Plan Bingo Soulmates square, but I ran out of time on that bingo. We’re currently sitting at 1640 words (984-ish of which are mine). Will probably continue on this sometime in January. Current Last Line: "My men will accompany you back to Brookline in the morning.”

Word Count Game

Thanks for the tag @chaotic-queer-disaster!

Rules: tell me the length of your longest project, shortest project, favourite project, and your (approximate) highest word count for one day and (if you remember) what project it was for. Then tell a little bit ABOUT each project.

The longest word count in my merry little group of finished drafts is Star Bright--currently clocking in at just over 115k. I’m pretty sure an earlier draft was around 120k though. Star Bright (formerly Star Fire) is the first* of the Star Saga. It’s sci-fantasy, “space opera” might be a good word for it? I’m not sure. Anyway. Two peeps go on a journey to a future galaxy far far away on the word of an alien stranger about reincarnation to see if they can possibly find the mc’s dead sister, and get helped out by a crew of... space “legal vigilantes” (to borrow something Mygre says. Or is it Dawn? Whatever). This is the project I’ve devoted the most time and effort to, though it’s been sitting for a while. Is it my favorite? I’m not sure. I’m not sure I have a favorite. But possibly.

Shortest project (excluding short stories) is the first draft of The Insomnia Code, at 34.5k. Although I can’t say what my highest word count in a day has been, some spirit of productivity possessed me during TIC draft one, and I averaged about 5k per day to finish the draft in about a week. I have no idea how that happened. I do know that the next draft needs to be expanded quite a bit, so it will ideally end up about twice as long. But we’ll see. The Insomnia Code is about a world where everyone’s minds are connected via a virtual reality called the Network. A college student decides to tackle the mystery of minds going missing in the Network and travels through the layers of the virtual representation of the collective human mind with the guidance of her anxious cat-program companion.

Good morning darling. It's stupid early, I've only had half a cup of coffee, and I'm typing on my phone so please excuse any typos.

Yes, in time I will be posting my big bang fic. It's currently over 117k words - the biggest thing I've ever written. I never intended not to post - and right up until last Sunday, I was still hopeful, despite life having thrown a shit ton of obstacles in my way.

In late October my dad died, my uncle died two days after Christmas, and a close family friend two days after that. In 8 weeks I lost three important people in my life.

I've also been dealing with a lot of issues with my ex involving the kids that had been an ongoing nightmare for over a year - most of which even my close friends didn't know about until just a few weeks ago.

My work schedule changed drastically in January, affecting my free time - and I've still written over 115k words this year.

My oldest daughter has had an extremely complicated high risk pregnancy. My newest granddaughter was born last week.

And today is my youngest daughter's high school graduation.

My intention is to post my big bang fic as a multi chapter serial starting in about two weeks. Because I didn't make my posting deadline, I won't begin posting until after the final wrap up from the big bang mods.

Thank you for your ask. It's nice to be treated like a person, not just a content generator for someone else's enjoyment.

GOD i honestly wouldn’t know but my two biggest published collections together clock in at 115k so considering all the shit i haven’t published i would guess around 150k??

10. shortest wip of the year

i think that award goes to the no cult au christmas oneshot im hoping to finish before the holiday but that is currently clocking in at a measly 382 words. :') so we’ll see.

13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year

i don’t really listen to music while i’m writing, but... did dolly parton end up my number four artist of the year on spotify wrapped primarily because i need to channel jestiny? mayhaps.

19. any new fics to start next year

hmmm i’m really hoping to buckle down and make the no reaping au a fully formed separate work at some point next year because i do have some fun ideas and a fuzzy timeline for it, and currently deciding if i want to reorganize what i have written of it on ao3 and brainstorming how to do it in the least obnoxious manner possible.

23. fics you wanted to write but didn’t

so, so many :') no reaping au as mentioned above, but also top of the list is probably the faith/tracey role reversal slash backstory fic. chapter one is actually completely written i just chickened out of posting it and never started additional chapters. also, so many prompts rotting in my inbox but i feel especially guilty for the limited amount of jenna/faith content ive produced. and i was at one point going to do a john and jessie go to drubman family thanksgiving oneshot but didn’t write a single word of it because i was in a terrible writing funk at the relevant time.

also, below cut for nsfw mentions but of the several rotting prompts the one i am particularly haunted about carrying over into the new year is:

an orgasm delay/denial prompt sent in that according to google docs i have been working on since early august and am finally accepting i am... cue drum roll... not going to finish. wah wah. sorry john, maybe next year.

Hey guys, short update on Pyrrhic, my post-SOJ "bad-ending" fic!

As of right now, I'm working on finishing chapter 4, which has a little over 1200 words!

I've got a rough outline for the rest of the chapters, and a rough estimate on how many chapters I'm expecting, too! I'm currently sitting at a strong 15 chapters, and using the rough estimate of about 1650 words per chapter, I'm gonna give a rough estimate that this will be around 25k words.

Keep in mind that my previous rough estimates for fics have been wildly off base (5 Firsts was supposed to be under 10k, when it's in the high 60's, and TYAC had an original 15k estimate- my document masterlist is somewhere around 115k and nowhere near finished)

Depending on how the next few chapters go, I may consider an early release for Chapter 1. I'm undecided, as the original plans were to do a weekly update once the fic was finished. If you want to see it, let me know! I'd love to get some preliminary opinions if that was something folks were interested in!

this is why i love you.

god, okay. this one's my baby, my athena, my f*cking albatross. it's an OC jedi/clone fic, and i started planning for it literally five wholeass years ago, and it's taken that long just to write... *checks* 115k because this story is MASSIVE, it's just real damn huge. huge in the worldbuilding, huge in the plot, huge in the characterization.

so like, we're all in agreement that the clones are slaves, and that tcw did a really shit-awful job at acknowledging it. way back when i was a relative n00b to the clone wars fandom (sometime ca. june 2016, but likely upwards of a month earlier) i was like "i want a jedi to actually acknowledge this. i want there to be big emotional Scenes about this. i want someone to feel responsible for this sapient rights abuse!" so i invented a jedi OC, and then for added subtlety, i made him zygerrian. (god, don't get me started on the zygerria arc, there is a Rant in me. there is so much rant it started this fic.)

anyway, his name is jaicente alhurayrah, and he's really bad in a fight but really good over the negotiating table. he's 24 standard, so basically still a kid, and he's against the war because, and i quote, "war is what happens when negotiations fail, commander." he's a math nerd and he's got moon-sized identity issues re: his being zygerrian and a jedi (read: "the only way i can make up for the stain of original sin being born zygerrian is to be the best jedi i can be"). he's Very Extremely distraught at the prospect of becoming a general.

then there's maia, CC-9863, the clone commander assigned to jai. maia's fun secret hobby, when he's not off commanding an engineering... technically a brigade, but that's an explanation for another day—is organizing the clone resistance. this is one of the more recent developments for his character (for a long time i couldn't decide how much i wanted him to have broken his programming, i went back and forth on it a lot and made my drafts a godawful mess), so i don't fully know the extent of it at this time. my current tentative idea is that there's multiple cells throughout the GAR, they're connected by a network of droid allies (because fuck yeah they recognize the importance of solidarity over enmity), they don't all know who/where the others are, and their general goal is clone emancipation. the primary disagreement between these various cells (discussed back and forth on anonymous message boards on the holonet) is the methods that should be used to obtain it. i reckon maia is much more on the "hold the GAR hostage until they give us our freedom" end of things.

as you can see, this is a SPECTACULAR mix of personalities. especially since jai's fragile self-esteem is almost entirely tied to the idea that he's safe from being a filthy slaver because the jedi absolutely aren't slavers.

maia: "so THAT'S a lie."

they are also, of course, extremely, unwisely, and desperately horny for each other. there's lots of averting of eyes and clearing of throats and careful discussions of how "it wouldn't be appropriate." inevitably, they start banging. inevitably, they have relationship problems. hey, if padme can make terrible life choices based on her libido, then maia can too—and at least for maia, the story has a happier ending :p

the rest of the story is 80% milwank by volume, because holy FUCK tcw's military worldbuilding gives me hives.

and that is my monster OC fic, coming to an ao3 near you in... 2025, probably. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
