One thing that kind-of annoys me about the Jojo fandom is there is this tendency to portray Giorno as more noble than he actually was. He was fine with deal drugs to adults, it was dealing drugs to kids specifically that he did not like. He had no issues killing people and wanted to be a mob boss. I like Giorno but a paragon of nobility he was not, and I think it is a disservice to the character to water down his less-then-positive traits.
yeah, there’s a lot of truth to that. i think part of the reason why that is is because lots of fan works of golden wind are significantly lighter and softer than canon. there’s nothing wrong with that, especially given how much darker it comes off in comparison to diamond is unbreakable, but as a result a lot of the main character’s negative traits tend to get sanded down, ie, narancia’s more violently destructive outbursts, abbachio serving as an enforcer for a corrupt institution via both the police and the mob with hints that he might be outright bigoted towards giorno because of his ancestry, and yes, giorno’s less than noble traits. a lot of this tends to bleed into how fans view the characters overall, but honestly it’s not nearly as bad as some other fandom mischaracterizations i’ve seen
it’s definitely a disservice to giorno to downplay his more unsavory traits, though. he joined the mob at fifteen and probably thought he was gonna have to work his way up the ladder for years even though they did things like dealing drugs to kids that he explicitly didn’t like. he’s quite an ends-justify-the-means guy, particularly in the long run, though part of what makes him interesting as a character is how those means are always done in service to an ideal. giorno’s proactive approach to most things and how he inspires others through his ideology shapes a lot of the narrative of golden wind, so entirely discounting that would be a mistake, but he’s definitely got quite a bit of the brando family ruthlessness in him that he knows how to use quite well (it’s also possible that fans conflate his character with bruno’s a lot, since bruno is the one who hates drugs the most and who we see more of being openly conflicted about his job as a mob enforcer)

... my deepest apologies. this has been sitting around for months... i somehow didn't notice it... ( ´△`)
CHE'NYA WITH A FLIRTATIOUS S/O!
Tumblr media
A small giggle left your lips.
"You've gotta catch me! No cheating! C'mon, your unique magic does count, rascal!"
You teased him, by letting him get close before sprinting off once again.
"A-aye! What am I even getting out of this," Che'nya panted slightly. Somehow you were outrunning him!
"I'll give you a kiss if you catch me~," You said right before running off again.
Wait, right before that... Did you kiss his cheek?!
"Oh, you can't escape me now!"
Ah, he broke the rules. He used his unique magic just to catch you faster!
"H-hey!"
"Gotcha!"
Since he technically did catch you... You decided to pepper his face with kisses as he walked you back to Ramshackle with you in his arms. His face was as red as Riddle's face when he's mad.
Speaking of Riddle... Hopefully he won't mind the.. "small" mess you two made in the rose garden.

one dumb little thing i wanna touch on that im curious why people do is when they age up the mop kids they always give ritsu like. a serious job. like a lawyer or some shit. and like dont get me wrong i think thats a good job for him, but i just feel like it doesnt embody the kinda revelation he has as a kid and like. the growth he experiences???
like ritsu is one of the smartest kids in the country. he does sports, hes on the student council, hes immensely popular, and girls think hes cute. but he's also miserable. like, objectively unhappy with where he's at because he's constantly reaching for the unattainable goal of having psychic powers (and finally bridging the impossible gap between him and his brother that hes been too scared to touch for all these years). he's seen as the model kid by everyone, but he hates being defined by this. he wants more than this--he wants to rebel.
so he does! he does something he knows is wrong and stupid because, well, he'd like to do something wrong and stupid right now to counteract all the good, normal things he's been doing his whole life. and then, through his compounding guilt at seeing what his rebellion is doing to others, he obtains the unobtainable: he gets psychic powers. his lifes goal is complete! and he's only like...13.
so, the question becomes: what does he want now? or, more accurately, what did he want truly?
he answers that whilst fighting shimazaki. he wanted that devotion to something; he wanted something he could strive for and dedicate himself wholeheartedly to. and now that he's obtained the psychic powers, he's no longer estranged from his brother. they're on equal playing fields (for the most part) and he doesn't have to be afraid anymore. so now? now he just wants to have fun!
so like. as much as i think ritsu continues to maintain his grades, extracurriculars, and whatnot, i doubt that is what he considers to be fun. i think he enjoys partaking in some good-humored mischief with sho and teru, or to just spend a day lounging with his brother. i think he allows himself to be more than just the model kid; he lets himself be himself.
which brings me back to what happens when he gets older.
frankly, i dont think ritsu goes to college.
at least, not right away. i think, for him, the world is still so young and new and bright and he wants to take it for all its worth now. i think he and sho travel the world a bit (sho doesn't go to college for a myriad of reasons, mainly boiling down to "fuck that we ball"), and when they return to japan ritsu just. chills! develops some hobbies. talks to friends. visits mob at his dorm and listens to him talk about his classes (rlly good fic ive read made mob a speech therapist and that works sooooo well so something like that maybe). goes home to see his parents and show them photos of his travels.
i think ritsu, for the first time in his life, lets himself just have fun. and i think he wouldn't be trying to tie himself down to any major work until he's had as much fun just being free.

So Alfred was made responsible for Bruce after his parents' death but what about Leslie Thompkins? I think it says somewhere that she was Bruce's guardian too, but then she just never gets mentioned in correlation to Bruce's parental figures. Maybe Jim Gordon too, though I don't know if that's fanon or not.
Ok so Jim Gordon is pretty much a fanon thing - he’s either new to Gotham when Batman starts out (like in Batman Year One) or he’s new to Gotham when the Wayne’s die and thats one of his first big cases (Gotham TV). I personally like it when he’s the on the Wayne Murder case, because it creates a sort of circle - the cop who failed Bruce working with Batman.
He also has very little connection to Bruce outside of that, more of a family friend, someone Alfred considered a good influence more then anything.
Legally and morally Jims responsibility to Bruce starts and ends with solving the Wayne murder (and being a mandated reporter). He never quite manages that one either does he.
In Leslie Thompkins’s original appearance she played Jim Gordons role of being the only person at the scene to try and comfort Bruce, and was later made into a family friend (colleague of Thomas) who decided to take a parental role in Bruces life after his parents death. That was a personal choice though, and legally she had no responsibility to him, outside of being a doctor and also a mandated reporter.
(I keep specifying ‘legally’ not because i think that is what makes someone significant to a kid, but because that would dictate how much access/power/consideration these people would have in a kids life. Legally neither Leslie or Jim were/are Bruces guardians, that doesnt mean they wouldn’t stick around when they could)
I also keep specifying that they’re mandated reporters because in quiet a few canons, Alfred is not Bruce’s first legal guardian (regardless of what his parents may have/may not have wished/willed). The legal maneuvering around becoming a vulnerable baby billionaires guardian would have been a nightmare, and both Gordon and Thompkins would/could have stuck around for that. Them being a cop and a doctor would have been very useful for Bruce’s safety.
Alfred was also “made responsible”, but the glossing over of what that means and how that would have happened is such a wasted opportunity. I promise the absolute shit show around that custody battle could fuel a million angst fics.

So, I'm new to the entirety of Wind in the Willows and I have a question: What's the general consensus on humans in their universe? If it kinda like Watership down where it's life from the forest/river animals point of view with humans are just doing their own thing but with the animals being presented as humans and having access to human like things like cars/houses/boats? Is it more along the lines where animals are anthropomorphic and just live along side humans? Do domestic animals like dogs fall into the same thing in which they're anthropomorphic? Or is it like fish in which their just animals?
The opinion I’ve seen most frequently (and the one I tend to lean towards) is that the animals of WitW mostly stay clear of humans, with the main exception of Toad and his shameless foray into motor cars. Animals have enough home comforts for an early-20th Century middle-class gentleman (aka: Kenneth Grahame) to consider idyllic without being inconvenient.
There’s also the general headcanon that animals who spend too much time around humans are considered Odd, which I personally hc as covering Toad, Toad Hall rabbits (by proxy) and urban foxes. Spend too much time around humans and you might just pick up some human mannerisms, you know.
Also, the book has this:
"And beyond the Wild Wood again?" [the Mole] asked; "where it's all blue and dim, and one sees what may be hills or perhaps they mayn't, and something like the smoke of towns, or is it only cloud-drift?"
"Beyond the Wild Wood comes the Wide World," said the Rat. "And that's something that doesn't matter, either to you or me. I've never been there, and I'm never going, nor you either, if you've got any sense at all. Don't ever refer to it again, please."
The implication that I’ve always understood is that the Wide World is a handwave for “where the humans live” and Ratty makes it quite clear that sensible animals steer clear of it.
Generally, I think people agree that the animals are anthropomorphic on the same kind of level as Beatrix Potter animals are - that is, they’re still pretty much animals, but with just enough humanity to make life more practical for them. (So, generally bipedal, and even though the book describes animals as having hands, the fandom tends to go with paws.)
(The book also mentions that Toad has hair and teeth (so... significantly more anthropomorphic) but we collectively went “no thanks” and ignored that.)
The domestic animal thing is something which we have no easy answer for. The book seems to imply that livestock are still just regular animals, given that Ratty mentions plenty of meat in his picnic:
"There's cold chicken inside it," replied the Rat briefly: "coldtonguecoldhamcoldbeefpickledgherkinssaladfrenchrolls– cresssandwichespottedmeatgingerbeerlemonadesodawater—"
Whether pets (like dogs and cats) are more anthropomorphised or just animals, ehhh, it depends on who you ask.
I personally prescribe to the notion that tame animals who are raised in the Wide World/by humans tend to be much more animal than the WitW animals, lacking in speech and cognitive abilities, and animals who have been domesticated (ie: bred for generations by humans) are likely to keep these limitations even if they do find themselves on the Riverbank. (So Toad can keep pigs and sheep on the grounds of Toad Hall, and we’re not going to have the ethical dilemma of eating pork or lamb.)
.
tldr: animals and humans stay generally separate; the animals from WitW are generally just anthropomorphised enough to be practical; and the fandom doesn’t have a definite answer for domestic animals.
But with any of these, nothing is set in stone and feel free to play with any ideas that take your fancy. The fandom has popular headcanons, but that’s all they are: headcanons.
(but if you give Toad hair, we might just revolt)
