Some of the actresses of colour suggested for Margot Mills based on 6DOSW’s episode of The Menu. Margot’s role as the final girl would gain additional nuance to her characterization and her interactions with Slowik and the other diners if she had been portrayed by a woman of colour, especially considering the film’s themes of worker exploitation and class division.

Hello, hello my little lovelies,
So much to catch up on these days! Everyone all at once seemed to have some type of news to share with me.
You all know being on the ice is meant to keep us all cool and level-headed, right? There were so many punches thrown at the ice skating event, not just once, not even twice, but three whole times. Eagan Connolly punched Huntsville Daily’s very own Samuel Ahn over what was reportedly, and unsurprisingly, something to do with that missing brother of hers again. If she keeps that attitude up no one is going to be willing to assist her. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, sweetheart.
Seeming to take a cue from her is that wildchild from the Westfall family, Esther Westfall, who is just as short tempered as ever. They were seen punching one Eldon Harcourt, though he seemed to take it decently well, and didn’t engage into a full brawl. The same can’t be said for Joey Albright who fully attacked Louis Ryan and had to be pulled off him. Not exactly the behavior you’d expect from everyone’s favorite heartthrob but it seems love makes fools of us all. Let’s just hope that Hope Macgillivray is worth it.
However, not everyone at the ice skating party was quick to come to blows. It seems that there are at least some of you who would rather make love than war. Jackson Miller was spotted getting cozy with Lavender Parsons, ending in what was apparently quite the steamy kiss, if my sources are to be believed. Now I know that some readers may be scandalized by this news, but I for one think it is wonderful that after everything she went through with her mother’s disappearance last year, Miss Parsons seems to be coming into her own as a young woman. All I can say is, be careful out there, men of Huntsville! There’s a new heartbreaker on the rise.
Here’s a toast to one town event being mostly a success with no serious incidents. Hopefully this is the start of a new and lighter year for all of us.
Love,
Auntie G

That older ranger guy is like, always at the bar. Smells like a bar too. Really harshes the vibe, you know? - Day Drinker
I've been seeing Amber Ryan and Noah Kasprak head off to his place a lot lately. I wonder how her siblings feel about her sleeping around with her co-worker. Seems pretty irresponsible to me considering the family's history. - Anon (25F)
So I was minding my business, when I heard Marisol de la Luna was holding some guy’s tarantula? Is that a new euphemism the kids are using or what? Here’s hoping history doesn’t repeat itself or she’ll end up like her mom did senior year. - Think of the Children
Geez, never a dull day with the Romeros. Heard another one of Hawk’s kids came popping out of the woods. Sora Griffon? At this rate, he’s gonna have a whole flock of ‘em. Hope his new hubby is ready to play Brady Bunch. - Town Bird Watcher
Nico Garcia has been going around saying he’s going to be a dad? I wonder who he knocked up. Could be half the town from the way he’s been getting around. I heard that within the past couple months he’s been hooking up with Val Moreno, Kirby, Nadine Briggs, Jessie Sinclair, Wren Romero, Cole Cerulli, Jovi DiCamillo, and Tatum Hampton, to name just a few! - Anon (33M)

ELIJAH LOOMIS (KOFI SIRIBOE) is looking for HIS EX. they’d like the faceclaim to possibly be someone along the lines of UTP 28-33 (suggestions include Niko Terho, Alejandro Speitzer, Amber Midthunder, Zion Moreno, Morgan Holmstrom, Thomas Elms, Aason Nadjiwan, Praneet Akilla) but you can reach out to OFWISHFULTHINKING to find out more! (+ this is someone that Eli dated after Noah’s mother, so they’d 100% know that he has a child and would have to be okay with that. For the most part, the relationship was stable and supportive, and Eli could see himself getting serious about this person. Ultimately, they ended up splitting because Eli wasn’t quite sure whether or not he was ready to be in a serious relationship yet. Whether they’re still friendly with Eli or hold some level of resentment towards him is completely UTP!)

Meet My Encanto OC, Lucía Moreno from Just Your Ordinary, Everyday Miracle on ao3!
Full Name: Lucía María Moreno-Hernandez
Age: 41
Birthday: December 13th
Height: 5'3"
Eye Color: Brown with amber/gold flecks
Hair Color:  Dark Brown
Appearance: Medium brown skin. Long wavy dark brown hair, worn in a braid down her back or wound into a bun at the back of her head. Long thin nose and brown eyes set into a friendly round face. Usually wears a white or cream blouse with a brown, green, or blue skirt and practical shoes.
Memorable Quotes:
“I suppose we should be thankful for small miracles, eh?” Ch. 2
“I don't want an out, Bruno. This may come as a surprise to you, but I actually like you.” Ch. 9
“I want to move forward, but I don't want to forget. Sometimes it feels like everyone else is forgetting.” Ch. 16
“You’re allowed to forgive yourself for the things you regret.  You know that, right?” Ch. 26
General Information/Personality: Lucía is a kind, practical, 'do-what-needs-to-be-done-with-as-little-fuss-as-possible' type of person. She tends to see the best in people, and her upbringing by two loving parents in the safe and protected Encanto has given her a fairly optimistic view of the world. She's very aware of the pain that can come in life - she is a widow and losing her husband in a tragic accident broke her heart - but she tries to focus on the good she sees in the world instead - and to be some of that good herself. If she sees a need and can meet it, she does. She'll step into a situation without question if she feels she can help, but if someone is antagonizing her directly she avoids them (and conflict) like nobody's business. Her desire to be helpful often directly contradicts (and overpowers) her desire to mind her own business. She's a dreamer and a writer, and her favorite stories are ones that include pirates. Her favorite place to go when she needs time to herself is beneath the old cedar tree in the center of her neighbor's corn fields. Her biggest worry and greatest responsibility in life is raising her daughter Josefina well without her husband Alejandro, but she has a loving family that supports her in her efforts.
History: Lucía’s parents were present at the founding of the Encanto, but Lucía and her younger sister Sofia were not born until around a decade later.  Her father is a printer and does his best to keep literature of both the fiction and non-fiction variety alive in the Encanto, and Lucía followed in her father’s footsteps.  She grew up helping her parents set type and bind books, and reading and listening to various stories and informational texts.  She helps run her father’s print shop and makeshift library and took on a larger role in the shop after her mother died when Lucía was in her early thirties.  Half of the shop houses the printing press, typeset, ink, and paraphernalia associated with printing and bookbinding, and the other half holds several shelves filled with books that her parents either printed or salvaged over the years. She helps set type and print orders and helps maintain the small library they have.  She also hosts a story time for the village kids a few times a week.  Her sister Sofia married Lorenzo Rojas, who runs the stables in the Encanto.
When Lucía was in her early twenties, she married Alejandro Moreno, an up and coming artist who went on to paint a mural of the Madrigals in town.  After they married, they worked together on printing and illustrating a large book of fairytales, legends, and fables, which Lucía still uses during her story times.  They also had one daughter together – Josefina – before he died while roaming the mountains around the Encanto in search of materials for his paints and inspiration for his work.
Alejandro’s death devastated Lucía, and she spent over a month afterward deep in shock, grief, and depression, pushing her family, friends, and even her young daughter away.  It was only with the help of her family that she slowly began to heal from his loss and the mistakes she made while grieving him. She does her best to be a present and loving mother to Josefina and does her best to keep Alejandro's memory alive by speaking of him frequently with her daughter. Three years later she is still in the cyclical process of grieving and healing. The night Casita falls, she's helping clean up her sister's barn when Bruno Madrigal shows up with the hood of his ruana thrown over his head, demanding her ‘fastest steed’.
Though Lucía is quick to befriend him, their romance is what you would definitely consider a slow burn. It takes both of them time to open their hearts to the possibilty of second chances.
The wonderful art at the top of this post is by the lovely @starfangssecrets. ❤
The rest is mine as I attempt to teach myself to draw. Please excuse variations in appearance and shading as I figure out what the heck I'm doing, lol. 🥰
Thanks so much for hosting this fun event @encanto-extended-edition

Summary: Azriel Moreno and Eris Vanserra are both young literary scholars working to make a name for themselves in academia. After a disastrous conference, a lost job opportunity, and a messy one night stand, the two part and move on with their lives, only to find themselves forced to work together on a project years later.
Read here on AO3!
Part 1 is being posted today for @azrisweek Day 5: AU. Part 2 will be posted on 6/22.
Enjoy the snippet below:
“Whiskey. Macallan 18 if you have it.”
A voice to his right—smooth and deep—startled him out of his self-pitying spiral, and almost unconsciously, Azriel found himself turning to the source of the sound.
The man standing a few feet away from him at the bar was just as alluring as his voice promised. He was red-haired, tall, and lean—another academic, if Azriel had to guess: the long tweed overcoat pulled over a black turtleneck, a forest green wool scarf slung almost effortlessly around the collar of the jacket, and horn-rimmed glasses that drew attention to the man’s eyes (were they amber-colored?) all spoke to his profession, although he wore the clothing with an ease and a grace that few other young academics could quite manage. Azriel found himself entranced as he followed the path of the man’s tight, slate-colored slacks higher and higher, stupidly lost in the lines of his body.
He hadn’t realized he’d been staring until the other man smirked and sat down on the stool one away from his own, nodding gratefully at the bartender who set the snifter down and took the man’s proffered credit card.
“Anything else, sir?” The bartender asked.
The red-haired man turned to Azriel. “Well?” He asked. “Anything else?”

ROUND 1 BRACKET LISTINGS
Welcome to Round 1 of the Wasted Woman Poll, the tournament to see which fridged woman deserved better!
Thank you everyone for your patience for Round 1 to begin. Now that the semester is over, I finished the list of match-ups for the Round 1 bracket.
There were 89 contestants for this tournament. Anyone familiar with tournaments knows that it doing a 89-contestant, single-elimination tournament would be annoying. Rather than cutting out 25 contestants to make it a 64-contestant tournament, I opted to use the format of a 64-contestant tournament, just with some of the poll in Round 1 (a majority of them, actually) being three-way polls with a single winner rather than solely two-way polls. So out of the 89 contestants going into Round 1, only 32 will go on to Round 2. Many of the listings in Round 1 will be characters from the same series going against each other, so that the future rounds will be more varied.
The tournament will be split into 4 sets of 8 polls each, with every poll running for a whole link. Below the cut will be the list of match-ups for each set and when the polls will premiere.
If there are any mistakes at all (spelling, if a character appears twice, if the media someone is listed under is incorrect, etc.) please let me know! I did double-check it, but I'm only human so errors do happen.

5 Steps Forward

WC: 2.2K A/N: I have been sitting on this for 2 weeks now and even though I don't really love it, I just need to set it free. Series Masterlist II Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
The saloon sits at the center of the town, unnamed but well-loved. A meeting place for some, a dinner table for others, a sanctuary for all. Wood and nails and cheers and laughter held the door open for any and all who ached to belong, and for a time not a soul was turned away. Louise’s father built it by hand, raising the walls with her two brothers flanking his sides, a hot sun waging a blistering war on the backs of their necks. She was just a tot back then, barely able to see past the sway of her mother’s skirt, her small hands the perfect size to cradle a pile of nails, boots curling dust as she chased after the last three good men she knew.
The bar feels just the same beneath the palm of her hand as it did back then, wood sanded down and polished by her father with a patience most don’t possess. His eyes were quiet, his mind always seemingly lost in thought as his hands moved back and forth and back again, Louise watching from a stool on the other side. She would mimic the movements as best she could before her arms grew tired, sitting back on her heels, dirt staining her bare legs, stockings shucked behind her mother’s back.
His chuckle still rings in her ears, his appraising look and gentle tongue reminding her why he worked so hard.
We take care of the things we love.
It wouldn’t be until years later, the tangle of her teenage limbs shoved roughly beneath that very bar, her father’s stern warning to stay put, that she learned what he really meant.
The sounds still sting at the edges of her memory, the angry crow of furious men riding through town, the hoofbeats of their horses drowning out the screams of her mother, the shouts of her brothers, the cries of her father. When the dust had settled and the blood was rusted dry, she emerged, alone, all the things she cared for taken before the sun had even dared to set.
The saloon was hers. For better. For worse. The echo of ghosts whispering after each step she took, only the passing of the sun and the shifting shape of her body consistent enough to mark time. Her small hands grew, wrapped around worn wood, curved up the bottles of amber, twisted over empty pint glasses. Her tongue sharpened around brazen words, short and none too sweet and spat at those who came with ill-intent.
And when words weren’t enough to keep danger at bay, Lou learned another way.
Her father’s shotgun was hers now, just the same as the saloon, and she cared for it twice over, memorizing its cracks and creases with a reverence she could never muster for the pew of a church. Always heavy in her hands, the heel of her hand warm along the grip, her fingers hooked into the trigger, her cheek finding comfort on the powder-smoked barrel. It fits now, the same as it had back then, into the turn of her shoulder, the muzzle marking the place between the swing of her doors, waiting for the familiar step of boots along the dust.
She counts them – one, two – the crush of rocks, the cock of her gun – three, four – the creak of wood, her deep breath in – five – the doors swing open.
His gun presses into the puckered silk of her bodice, the fabric warped from too much sun and even longer time. The deep brown of the stranger’s eyes find hers beneath the brim of his black hat. The gleam of the sun is lost behind the broad sweep of his shoulders, the width of him taking up the entire doorway, but somehow there’s still light enough for her to see. Her breath sticks in her throat, a grunt breaking past her lips, so startled by the sight of him, though she loathes the thought as swiftly as it comes.
Still.
She can’t deny him his rugged features, the beauty in them apparent the longer she stands in front of him, and so instead, she makes a joke.
“Fast hands. Not so sure I like that in a man.”
The words are sticky between them and the man doesn’t respond, his lips curled beneath the bristles of a mustache, its length the perfect tell for how long he’s been riding. Dirt caked beneath his fingernails, dust creased into the wrinkles of his shirt, bags lining the corners of somer eyes, all whispering of the stories he has to tell. Lou catches those same eyes, sad and sweet, wandering down her figure, only the tip of his brow giving him away. She steps in closer, her gun and his digging in deeper just the same, but it’s the cock of a gun and a much lighter boot that drags the temperature past scorching.
Just behind the man is a slip of a girl, brown eyes and wild curls, his perfect match. She has a pistol aimed at Lou, small fingers barely able to reach the trigger, a tremor, so slight, in the way she holds her aim, her spine set, eyes like steel.
His daughter, Lou assumes.
Or something close to.
He’s taught her well.
It’s a glass image pointed back at her, a ghost of a past with the young girl’s future staring her down. A whisper she can’t unhear. We take care of the things we love.
For the first time the man looks truly afraid, eyes wide, his own twin tremble in the too tight grip of his pistol.
And just like that, the time for violence had passed. A stalemate is reached and drinks are shared. The stranger, this supposed good man, makes his case for his presence in the only home she’s ever known.
“We’re here to help.”
She mulls his words over, letting the taste of them mingle with the burn of whiskey on her tongue. He’s said it three times, three different ways, since entering her saloon, as if the repetition would make the words magically hold water. Didn’t this stranger know? Nothing held water in Sol.
His daughter still sits at the bar beside him, the bottle of pop between her hands looking much more at home than the pistol. Lou feels an immediate affection for the girl, and if it weren’t for every tasteless memory of the good men gone astray that paint the walls of this very room, she would already be offering them a place to rest for the night. As it stood, she still needed more.
“What makes you think this town needs help?”
He hums beneath his breath, taking his time in pulling off his hat and placing it on the bar beside his drink, still untouched next to her own empty glass. He turns his head one way and then the other, taking in the empty stools, the broken floorboards, the dust settled along the windowsills, before he finally turns back to her, brown eyes catching the last of the afternoon sun. His smile grows slowly, a slight tilt to the corner of his lips, almost wry in the way it twists in front of her.
“Just a hunch.”
“Look here–”
“Marcus,” he supplies, as if anticipating the slur sitting on the tip of her tongue. “Moreno.”
“Marcus,” Lou repeats, refusing to let herself enjoy his name between her lips. “This town and this bar are doing just fine.”
She is doing fine.
“Huh, that so?” He hums again, pushing away from the bar top and turning slowly to walk a small circle around the room. His boots hit a steady beat along the floor, wood creaking gently beneath his weight, loud enough that Lou makes a mental note to replace them before winter comes. “Not many customers in today.”
The observation is laced with an insistence that splinters beneath her fingernails, the sting of sand biting at the sensitive skin. She aches to shake the feeling away but ignores it, instead curling her hands tight around the curve of the wood in front of her.
“Most wait for nightfall.”
“You mean the bandits?”
“And the vagrants,” she adds, her own smile creeping up her lips.
“Ah yes, of course.” He turns back around, smile gone, a discouraged sort of grimace set in its place. “You got any sort of plan?”
“Plan?” Lou wants to laugh. In fact, she does, one hand braced on the bar, the other clutching at her side, weathered silk smooth beneath her fingertips. Her head tilts back, eyes closed as she lets her laughter ring out through the empty saloon, rough and dry and loud. It’s equal parts insulting and infuriating that this Marcus thinks a few words from a passing bounty hunter is enough for him to understand this town and this life, no matter how many hardships he’s had to carry through his own life. When she looks back at him, she doesn’t blink, refusing to let Marcus look away as she speaks her peace plainly.
“The plan is to survive.”
He seems unimpressed, coming back to the bar and reaching for his drink, letting the tip of his thumb sit heavy on the rim of the glass before kicking it back in one swift swallow. His throat bobs in time with his movements, the long strip of tan skin stretched taut beneath the burn of the spirit.
She has to look away.
“The people of this town–”
“Are good people,” Lou finishes for him, and for the first time it seems they agree.
She keeps her eyes on the bar, her palm flat, moving back and forth and back again, the wood her father sanded down and polished just so, warm with the memory of his touch.
It’s the tip of a finger, thick and calloused, beneath her chin that draws her eyeline back to the present, his gentle touch kissing sweetly against the tremble of her skin. He keeps it there, a phantom pressure she must be imagining, his deep voice washing away the dust caught deep inside her throat.
“I want to help you do more than survive.”
“Well then,” she starts, voice catching round a heavy swallow, his finger still beneath the cut of her jaw. “I guess you’ll need a place to tuck in for the night.”
She leads the family of two towards the back of the saloon, around a dark corner and up a narrow flight of stairs. Lou does her best to ignore the way the sound of two more sets of footsteps following her own churns heavy in her stomach, a loneliness long ignored bursting to life and dying all at once atop those squeaky stair steps.
“There’s plenty of room, so you and the kid are welcome to bunk together or separate. Outhouse is out back. Don’t have a tub. Thing would be pretty much useless in this desert anyway. But each room has a basin if you’re looking to clean up.”
His daughter, Missy he finally provides, is quick to lay claim to the room at the far end of the hall. It had belonged to Lou’s younger brother, his spare boots still under the bed, primers still shoved beneath the mattress (but still not hidden well enough from their mother’s piercing gaze). Marcus follows her in, taking note of the boarded over window and the empty closet, careful eyes sweeping from top to bottom twice over before he nods, leaving her to settle in, her smile wide at the prospect of a night on a soft (if just a tad dusty) mattress.
He takes the next room over for himself, giving it the same scrutiny as the last, before turning back to Lou, taking one step closer to her before stopping suddenly in his tracks. For the first time she notices the blush sitting sweetly on his cheeks, his smile small and soft, the brim of his hat clutched between his fingers and pressed tightly to his chest. His eyes are fixed firmly on her own.
If she didn’t know better, she’d guess this supposedly good man was nervous to be alone with her.
“My room is just across the hall, only five steps forward. If you should need anything.
He nods, but otherwise doesn’t move, his brows bunching in, his quiet eyes lost in thought.
“I thank you, Miss, for the hospitality. I promise we won’t be a bother.”
She hates the formality that has sprouted between them, and wishes for a way to go back to their childish squabbles, if only to rouse that wry smile of his free one more time. She lets her own gaze linger; on the constellation of freckles along his neck, the width of his shoulders, the size of his hands, taking one step and then another into his space.
“Somehow,” she teases, “I don’t believe that, cowboy.”
“Is that right?” He jokes back, his smile marching up his cheeks, a whisker’s breath wider than before.
The tip of her tongue peaks out to wet her lips, wishing for the courage to let her voice break past in a hush meant only for him. Because she knows, same as she knows how good a man he really is, that Marcus Moreno is about to wreck all of her plans.
