i love how the reviews of new amsterdam on imdb are all “what is this sjw crap in s3” “max has become a socialist” “all of max’s quests in the last season are so woke”
and i’m here still at season one and he’s litterally been advocating to socialize public health from episode one

about headcanoning white characters as PoC, notice how across all fandoms, people usually don't headcanon them as ethnicity that already exists? For example you will never see anyone headcanoning the white Batboys as Middle Eastern because Damian is already there nor as Black because Duke is already there, so they choose something else as if it was a checklist and they need just one token PoC from each ethnicity.
yes i've seen that and it's very amusing to me like of course there can only be One Of Each in any given piece of media! having two people from the same ethnicity is obviously too much representation for any single group it gives them too much power

As much as I love and adore Natalie Portman as Jane Foster (she signed on before there was a script!!! She helped build MCU Jane!!!), I would love Tina Desai as a racebent Jane Foster.
omg she's perfect!!! Also natalie is problematic she whitewashed a role meant for a woc in annihilation. and like I do respect how she built up Jane Foster who I still stan but yeah I love Tina as Jane!

honestly yes to anna diop and laverne Cox and Bobbi and nat. now imagine; diop!natasha having a cameo in aos, along with a latinx actress as maria hill and maybe (if she’s not problematic, I can’t find anything) Kareena Kapoor as Sharon? Idk I’m just projecting on Sharon I kinda want a desi sharon, I want it a lot. Or asian Sharon. Gemma chan as Peggy if we’re getting Asian Sharon?
For latina Maria Hill what about Stephanie Beatriz?
this is kareena kapoor
my only question is why a desi Sharon and and Chinese British Gemma Chan? Shouldn't both the carters be desi or chinese? anyways good thoughts! I just think we could refine it a bit more?

I like how they went out of their way to point out how Desire is androgynous, just like the comic books, when they could've...just shown it in the show. But I guess DC wanted brownie points.
Also, I am a tad pissed that Death is not a pale-skinned perky goth waifu. Again, if I'm being irrationally charitable, maybe they didn't want her to get confused with the three different adaptation versions of Raven?

idea for a black Natasha…anna diop? How about laverne Cox? I’m leaning towards anna diop but I want laverne Cox in the MCU too.
I'm so sorry about this I just answered the other Laverne cox on another ask but I think Diop has the look for Black Widow/Natasha.

IM THE RECAST NAT ANON, HOW ABOUT LAVERNE COX AS BOBBI OR SHARON? WE NEED SOME TRANS WOC IN THE MCU! it’d be so powerful tho!
I'd prefer Laverne cox as Bobbi look how similar they look with the blond hair and they're both tall.
Like yeah Laverne has the range to play Sharon but it looks like Sharon is evil now? so um I'd rather not have a trans woman as an evil character.

Ugh! I hate it when these assholes are doing this, speaking as an artist myself! Not only they're being racist on both ends, they're also taking people's art WITHOUT consent and making all the good Westerners look bad!
Ironically these are the same people who preach about #stopasianhate and yet they’re treating Asian artists like garbage.

Okay, so now that I've collected my thoughts about the DCEU reboot I'm hearing about, and the fact that they're planning to make Superman black, so here's what I have to say. Give us Calvin Ellis campaigning to be president and battling Lex Luthor, both as presidential candidates and as hero and villain. Give us Val-Zod stepping up as Superman after Clark dies, just so the world can continue living without fear of Superman being gone, despite his own doubts and fears. Do not give us "Farmboy from Smallville who's from another planet wants to do good and becomes a superhero, except this time he's black."

This version of Impulse is the future son of Iris and Barry. In this continuity, Iris is black, so their kid - their second time-displaced kid, actually - is mixed. In the comics, Impulse was born in the 30th century. Iris is his paternal grandma.
That said, Impulse’s hair just does not work.

Hey, some friendly reminders from your local biracial gay guy who has faced constant racism, homophobia, and sexism for a very long time:
There's no link between race equality and having a negative opinion about a fictional character who happens to be a minority. You can still support BLM, all non-white people, and the LGBTQ+ community and have a strong dislike for a character who belongs to one or more of those marginalised groups because those things are not mutually exclusive. Having that negative opinion does not make you a bad ally— and the reverse certainly doesn't make you 'woke.'
Non-white characters are not exempt from being badly written because they're non-white. And white characters are allowed to have overlapping storylines and plots, and be in the spotlight. Especially if the non-white characters in question are written as self-inserts. Seriously, being black or brown or any other variation doesn't mean that character is 'better' or that they get an automatic free pass. If you wouldn't let a white character get away with the same thing then you're a hypocrite. 'But black/brown people don't have much rep and we cling to all the rep we can which is why we're so attached to those characters!' No one is attacking your attachment— just don't harass other people or use said attachment to justify being a prick.
Racebending isn't a favour. Plenty of people think that racebending a white character is something to be praised because of the lack of non-white representation but what they're really doing is alienating fans from the material. By making existing characters who have existed for a long time in a specific way different, it makes the material jarring and unfamiliar. Coupled with guilt-tripping and lashing out at fans who don't like the racebends by calling them racist, it's a really rude thing to do. Yes, there's a lack of representation. No, that doesn't justify racebending. What happened to creating new and interesting non-white characters instead?
Just because a ship features a non-white character with a white character, that doesn't make it better than every other ship. And it definitely does not justify all the vicious harassment aimed towards fans who ship something different. You are allowed to prefer a ship you can personally relate to, or a ship that you think works better. No one has any right to hate you for preferring a 'nasty ass white mlm' ship but if they do, please block them. They're homophobic.
It's not homophobic to think a fictional same-sex relationship just doesn't work. I promise it's not. What's homophobic is harassing the LGBTQ+ community for enjoying those ships and insisting that they're 'imagining' non-canon ships if the signs are all very clearly there, or being rude about canon ships if they're not all that healthy.
Hating or bashing a male character solely because they're male isn't woke. It's actually pretty sexist, like it or not, because sexism isn't only directed towards women. There's no need to step on someone else to make your point, and if a guy tells you this, calling him a 'baby' or telling him to 'get over it and man up' is also sexist. It's not woke either. If you do this, then you're a jerk.
ANYONE CAN REBLOG, BUT PLEASE DON'T DERAIL THE POST OR ARGUE IN THE COMMENT SECTION. NONE OF THE ABOVE IS OPEN FOR DISCUSSION, SO IF YOU DISAGREE, PLEASE MAKE YOUR OWN POST.

My Personal Exceptions to Racebending
Remember my first post on my complicated thoughts on racebending? Here’s another post on my thoughts but focusing on my exceptions to racebending. Exceptions which wouldn’t actually qualify as such.
1. Alternative universe. Both Marvel and DC have done it -- Spider Man Miles Morales, Captain Britain Peggy Carter, Superman Val Zod, and Superman Calvin Ellis. They may have the same superhero name or even birth name but they’re from different universes.
2. Underused characters -- Basically, characters who haven’t been used since the conception be it the 1930s or 1990s, to the point that hardly anyone knows them. If they’re already a POC, DON”T racebend.
3. A sidekick that takes up the mantle. DC and Marvel do this alot.
4. A book with no clear designation of a person’s ethnicity can also be racebended. Again, if they’re race HAS been stated, DON’T change it.
5. Making an expy. For you who don’t know, an expy is character who is based off another character(s) from any form of media. You can use an expy of a popular superhero and racebend them, just also make sure to make them distinctive in their powers, weaknesses, personality, origin, rogues gallery, etc. For example, Marvel’s Adam Brashear aka Blue Marvel and Milestone’s Augutus Freeman aka Icon were based off DC’ Superman.
6. Or introducing a new character who for some reasons takes up the mantle of an already established hero in the same universe. Like how Jaime Reyes took up the Blue Beetle mantle from Ted Kord.
7. If it’s a retelling of fantasy stories like Cinderella or the Sleeping Beauty, make sure to make it distinctive. Disney made great Fanatsy movies (before they started the live action remakes) but don’t follow their entire formula because while they have the most popular interpretation, it’s NOT the required one. You can make your own version of the story.
based on recent (positive!) announcements about the live action netflix avatar the last airbender series and discussions I witnessed on facebook.
