i think it’s funny how when some people talk abt alex turner’s potential drug usage it’ll either be like “he has a major drug and alcohol problem it’s so obvious!!!” or “i don’t think he’s the type to have ever even tried a hard drug” as if there isn’t a ton of middle ground between those two extremes

like the man who wrote “why’d you only ever call me when you’re high” and has been a touring musician since he was 19 has obviously fucking been high - and not just with weed - but that also doesn’t mean he’s completely off his head in every interview he’s ever done 😭😭

#a lot of the assumption that he’s always high is definitely due to his social awkwardness and (potentially neurodivergent) quirks #but that doesn’t mean he’s NEVER high either #i do think some would be surprised just how unavoidable coke is in quite literally any touring musician’s circle #and that said i do know that within the industry it’s rumoured/known that he has an off and on again coke habit #source: my father 😭#when i’ve brought him up w my dad he’s always just like ‘from what i’ve seen he’s a proper genius - vices and all’#i’ve seen ppl comment on how his performances entirely depend on how much coke he’s done and i don’t disagree that that may have an impact #but i think it’s unfair to classify him as some full-blown unfunctional addict #bc trust me when i say that there would be NO doubt that there’s a problem if there was a massive problem #anyway it’s an interesting topic and i do think it’s worth exploring but i also think it’s important to keep a balanced view on things #if we’re presenting them as fact and not fiction #alex turner #arctic monkeys #milex

bc rereading it i was like. O_O. is he. not talking about vil.

i was thinking like "the first read through you're definitely meant to think so, and vil did absolutely change rook's life, but with context from both book 6 and his halloween vignette, what he's describing here leans more towards the latter" which is like. masterful gaybait i can't even be mad. it's like that post saying "some gaybaiting is like a box propped up with a stick and a block of cheese underneath" except this has all the intricacy of a steampunk clock.

but my VERY shoddy japanese skills r telling me the line translates more to "beauty in your eyes and the darkness, lighting up your entire life for you—in a time in your existence when you'll be able to have [such an experience] (expanding on the prev line where he says they'll be able to understand his ideology in the future)"

^ and i probably mangled this so bad but the main point is i didn't hear him refer to a "someone" like he does in the english tl & i'm wondering if i missed it or if it was in fact added!!!

Idea that kinda falls in line with Post Covid Kenny. They sorta go separate ways during college years and sometimes won't see each other for periods of time. They see Kenny even less frequently but when they do and someone's like "what've you been up to" Kenny's just like "oh not much" or doesn't get the chance to give a full answer, but meanwhile, he's actually been in some crazy advanced classes and is seen as this weird, generous guy. Just this total enigma living really modestly. He says some smart shit and they're like. What. Because Kenny's so unassuming about it.

Just finished my first playthrough of BG3. Romanced Lae'zel, but ending up turning into an Illithid because the idea of making Orpheus or Karlach do it didn't sit well with me (or my character).

I told Lae'zel to leave with Orpheus in the end (I heard she wouldn't stay with a ghaik anyway, which she's valid for, but also, it doesn't feel right to ask her to stay when I know how much her people mean to her). And like-

I was about to make a post about how much I love the ending where Undyne overthrows Toriel but specifically the version where Papyrus is still alive because I find the dynamic between Undyne hating humans and planning to enact another war and Papyrus staying behind in the Ruins when Toriel goes out to watch for humans and it being something he is genuinely very happy to do it VERY interesting because something something parallels between Toriel and Asgore and Papyrus and Undyne and continuing that cycle and all that but then I realized I was misreading the ending this entire time and Sans and Papyrus don't live with her they just visit her frequently 😭

#MY POINT STILL STANDS THOUGH DSGIJFKDH #Papyrus's feelings about Undyne in this ending are pretty much up in the air cause he doesn't say anything about it??#So I'm taking some liberties here dshgjkfdnhgdh #but like ooooooooooooooough #anyways so cruel to me specifically that in the ending where Papyrus is alive they don't live with Toriel #because I am VERY confident that Sans lives with her in the variant where Papyrus is dead.#utdr #ut #Papyrus could also be TOTALLY chill with Undyne wanting to do that while also protecting humans from her idk it just seems like that one is #a bit of a stretch #Because Papyrus is VERY morally grey in quite a few endings and no one really. talks about it lmfao dshgjkdfh #Papyrus seems to be pretty indifferent to some of the shit going on around him as long as it benefits him which is. a whole other topic

my german isn't even a fraction as good as it would need to be to make any kind of job of rilke but i fell down a minor rabbit hole & have been flipping thru edward snow's version of his uncollected poems as a result & it's just like. it's a hard thing to describe but you know the kind of translation where it just feels like. you aren't getting a sense of the actual arc & flow of meaning and it's not clear that the translator had one either. very these-sure-are-some-nouns-on-a-page.

like, okay, random example i just hit:

Imagining you my being burns more brightly, my veins turn the night red. About my heart the armed guardian rattles with suspicion. Has your feeling caught sight of me down through the liberated stars? Are you coming from unopposable space Paris, May 1913

and yes those italics are snow's own and no they are not in rilke's german text anywhere—

like i always have a vague suspicion that stephen mitchell is to rilke what keeley and sherrard are to cavafy, in the sense of producing very beautiful english versions whose allegiance is perhaps ultimately more to themselves than to their point of origin

and like, disclaimer that this is all a very uninformed discussion, i'm sure there are rilke and/or translation aficionados out there who have very well-founded, well-established opinions on these various translators but i really don't, i'm just poking at pomes like a dilettante*

remembering on my circa 2017 booklr I used to tell people to read Gemma Doyle by describing it as trc but with an all girls boarding school / all girl group in a historical setting… I was trying to do the lord’s work she deserved tumblr fame

#I do think that was an oversimplification of both but. Not totally off base there are some similar char tropes used I’m proud of past me for #the attempt. Also I think I’m going to start advocating for Diviners in that way now that trc fandom is apparently quite miserable post GW #you like gay people doing dream magic? you like witchcraft and ghosts and strong ensemble casts?#you like an ambitious abuse survivor getting a healing arc with learning to control magic/psychic abilities as a metaphor? you like four #book series where the first three books rock and the last book which is named king + corvid is a bit underwhelm who said that?#a positive point in diviners favor is Ling x Wei Mei >>>> RonanKavinsky. Generally find the take on dream magic in diviners more compelling #(although LingHenry + RonanHennessy both being mlm wlw duos who are the dreamers is kinda fun)#anyway. This is not actually a fair comparison because Ling is my fav or at least top two w Theta of the leads and I love Ronan but he is m #least favorite of the trc leads of which there are four all of whom I love so it says nothing bad about him. But it does put me as an #outlier re: fandom priorities..#on the flip side while I love diviners dynamics sadly I don’t think they ever come anywhere close to Gangsey levels of extreme codependency #so I can not care quite as much….#from what I remember the girls in Gemma Doyle are a lot more codependent good for them. Still unwell about Rilke and PH

I love the dark hours of my being.

My mind deepens into them.

There I can find, as in old letters,

#There's in Rilke and especially in this particular book a lot about the world‚ created in the beholding and loving it‚#and one existing to love the world. There's so much about the world being created by that loving and knowing the world of one individual #person that loves and knows it. A kind of feedback loop of existing and being by love and knowledge that is all a participation #on the act of creation. The person coming to exist to love and know the world‚ and creating the world by loving and beholding it #This is also present on Juan Ramón Jiménez‚ among others‚ but 5 yo me was obsessed with those poems. ANYWAY #This topic made me think of Lacie a lot but in this particular poem that topic + the 'I'm sorry' scene + the figure of Lacie beyond Lacie‚#a Lacie that's legend and real‚ a Lacie always sitting under a tree‚ life ending and life expanding so to speak‚...#That kind of knowing it all in a glimpse that is knowing in an instant and eternal (which again reminds me of Kierkegaard‚#fitting I'd say with Rilke). I'm explaining myself terribly but I don't want to talk too much haha But yeah it all seemed very fitting #There was another poem about spiralling so to speak around god that I also thought was very Lacie but very PH in general #('I live my life in widening circles / that reach out across the world. / I may not complete this last one / but I give myself to it /#I circle around God‚ around the primordial tower. / I've been circling for thousands of years / and I still don't know: am I a falcon‚ /#a storm or a great song?'). The spiralling around god in what is still some sort of emanence or reflection of it while being also #different iterations of the self which all reflect it also reminded me a lot of Cantor's transfinite numbers #Which again is quite fitting and coherent with the other authors and PH imo‚ but I may be biased. Anyway yes. This reminded me of Lacie #I didn't plan on drawing anything at first and now I have to flinch to read the poem #I hope I'll recognise enough of what I've written when I eventually come back to this #I talk too much #I should probably delete this later #mine*

Going insane rn remembering how amazing Karmaland 5 was. I'm rewatching old clips and animations and rereading my old notes and analysis and I'm like dang. I'm so glad I was able to experience this live.

It does make me think a lot about preservation and streaming as a medium for storytelling though. When it comes to servers with multiple people, inevitably there will be POVs you don't see and stories you miss out on (especially if things aren't archived or deleted). You'll never get the full picture unless you see every single thing from every possible angle. A single line from a POV you don't watch could change your entire outlook on a character -- it could change the entire story itself. As someone who's committed to knowing every single thing about a story, it's extremely frustrating, but at the same time, it's such a fascinating way to tell a story. I do wish it was a little easier to re-experience these stories though because streams take so much more time to consume, and even if VODs are edited down, sometimes things are lost and those single story-changing lines are left out solely because an editor might not deem them "important" to the narrative as a whole.

I dunno man. As a writer and a story-enjoyer, it gives me a lot to think about.

thinking about this because i made the mistake of looking at Tumblr replies so pardon the half vent but how do people get in this mindset of "this song isn't good enough for someone to call themselves a musician, they're not a REAL musician" lmfao. like sorry but that teenager or 20-something who just released a TikTok song you don't like is still a musician. like by definition. there is no threshold to be a "real" musician, you spork. everyone has to start somewhere.

same with any form of art actually (that is made without AI). whether you like it or not, whether it's good or bad, someone crafted that shit. they are a "real" writer, they are a "real" artist, they are a "real" crocheter, knitter, sew...er, whatever form of art you're doing, if you're doing it, congratulations, you're now an artist, whether other people like it or not. full stop lmfao.
