Gonna preface this by saying I don't think it's reflective of how I Actually feel about my gender identity but

Going from nonbinary to binary trans feels like I've become.... boring, somehow. Plain, generic, not really anything to write home about.

And idk if this is even an accurate observation or not but I kind of wonder if how people talk about it in casual (and/or fandom) spaces has an impact on that... Or at least on how I developed those perceptions in the first place.

#I'll be frank I think a good amount of it is my own hangups bc I put off discovering myself thanks to trying to box myself in too much #eg i couldnt be a guy bc im too 'feminine' or am at best neutral and didnt have anything masculine about me etc #or like now neopronouns feels weird to ask people to use and it already felt too much to ask but now it just feels unhelpful #things like that #but also like. idk. talking about being nonbinary is always some Revolutionary or Abstract or Fluid Everchanging concept #if you see hcs or pride icons for 'chaotic' characters it's usually going to lean more towards some form of nonbinary #it's not that people dont find just being trans revolutionary bc it still very much is. but it feels like there's more emphasis on it #when you're Breaking the binary or whatever. it feels like there's an emphasis of the cooler daniel almost socially #idk. im probably just talking shit bc of my own limited experiences and bc honestly being nonbinary sucked ass for me #bc I wasn't Actually nonbinary so it was just plain uncomfortable #but the feeling plain thing is just an odd feeling i wouldnt have expected to accompany this change #....Maybe it's not feeling 'plain' so much as not feeling At Odds over it? i'm so screwed up it seems like me to mistake feeling comfortabl #with feeling 'bland' or some such nonsense #blablablah

Formerly a femboy, now a trans woman just starting HRT, and a PhD student in molecular biology. I started using this online persona as a fun, shitposty way to explore gender a few years ago. I post selfies (generally sfw, but somewhat sexy, so minors and ppl who don’t like that have been warned), rambles about science, tutorials and advice from the stuff I’ve learned by being a femboy in the past, nature pictures, stuff about the ocean, my adorable grumpy little tortoise, and unsolicited opinions on random nerdy topics. Any pronouns are fine. I don’t plan to socially transition for a while, and still present as a man most of the time, so I’m used to whatever you wanna use for me (for now, I’ll update this if that changes). Please send me pictures of your pets or other cute animals in your life!

As a scientist, I’m also documenting my transition! This google sheet will be updated at least monthly. I also have additional metrics I’m keeping to myself, and pictures that go with this, but I’m not sharing them publicly yet. Keep in mind that this is just one person’s experience with HRT, and may not represent universal trends!

Adding a little something here, bc I think it was an interesting bit a writing: if you want to see me respond to a transphobe about what "biologically female" means, here's a thing I wrote about it. CW for transphobia and discussion, obviously.

As for terminology, I personally do think of myself as a “man who is becoming a woman” as opposed to having always been a woman. If that doesn’t resonate with your experience, I totally get that! But that’s why I freely call pre-HRT me a femboy, while still calling post-HRT me a trans woman. I’m also keeping the blog name as CatboyBiologist for the forseeable future, because at this point, Catboy just seems like a gender neutral term to me.

I’m also trying to put together a script for a podcast regarding how studying biology influenced my perspective on sex and gender- lmk if there’s any interest in that! It’s probably gonna be way too long and indulgent but oh well.

WIBTA for refusing to do any more art commissions for my mom's friends?

Ok so I (19nb) am a digital artist. If I had to honestly rate my skills I would put them somewhere in the "good enough to get a few commissions but not professional level" range and I wanted to do it professionally.

Keyword being wanted but I'll get to that

Now my mother has been showing off my art pieces to her friends (no problem with this) and it got one of my mom's friends to ask her if I could draw make icons for the website of her upcoming business back in late April (basically one big icon for the main page and five smaller ones, so six in total, all fully rendered) and paid 200 dollars for all of it (which thinking back was extremely low for the amount of time and effort that I put into that if I was going by living wage effort and time)

So I did that, got the money, spent it all and was happy.

And now yesterday (july 6th) my mom said that she asked one of her other friends (who is also her boss) if I could draw her a new logo for her side business.

SHE DIDNT EVEN ASK ME IF I WANTED TO DO THAT! SHE JUST TOLD HER FRIEND THAT I WOULD DO IT!

Now I got a big commission (dont know how much money Im getting paid) dropped on me with no warning. And apparently my mom and her friend are coming with even MORE ideas for me to draw. (Mind you that commission would take at least a week to two weeks at the MINIMUM and now they're coming up with more)

But the thing is I dont want to to do digital art professionally anymore. I want it to stay as a hobby, something to do for fun and my own enjoyment. The reason why? A one year digital art course I did last year that burnt me out so unbelievably bad. I couldnt make ANY art for myself for an entire YEAR because I was constantly working on that stupid useless course (and I didnt even get the final drawing done and submitted before the one year deadline was up so that didnt help. And it was the one I was the most proud of too)

I am burned out and I want to make things for ME, things that absolutely cant go on a portfolio (extreme horror art, fan art, NSFW art, etc)

The amount of times in the past months I have talked myself out of drawing something that would make me happy because everything I make should be fit to go on a professional portfolio is extremely high.

I'm obviously gonna do the new commission and whatever else those two tell me to draw (but it better be more than 200 dollars, like at least 350 minimum) but I am so tired of this and I just wished my mom had asked me first before automatically telling her friend yes.

So would I be the asshole if I told her Im not doing any future commissions from her friends and that I want to just do art as a hobby and not as a career?

OK SO. i think im a little..? dissapointed..? abt sider order?? like im kinda conflicted abt the lore, also i suck BALLS at the game

the thing is i have done 5 runs so far AND COULDNT GET A SINGLE WIN. the most i can do is up to floor 20.... im literally so bad at this game I ONCE DIED 2 TIMES IN AN EASY LEVEL. im newgen guys.

maybe im not fit for rougelike games but like... idk. i feel like me and the fandom as a whole expected so much more from side order. i feel like if the game is gonna make you replay the same stuff over and over again it should atleast have a SOUL CRUSHING LITERARY MASTERPIECE TYPE OF LORE like OE and Alterna

when four is left out from the squidbeak splatoon they try to prove themselves by siding with marina with her project. it makes perfect sense. marina and four are both scared of being seperated by their loved ones. but four gets consumed by their anger and jealousy and goes full order mode LIKE DO YOU GUYS SEE MY VISION!!!! i will be forever mad that we didnt get this.

also why is murch out of all the chracters have a pallete??? why didnt they put in captain 3 or something????? sheldon i kinda understand since hes also kinda a part of the squidbeak splatoon BUT MURCH??? get the fuck out!!!

negative stuff aside tho. i love pearl and marina so much. THIS IS THE PEARLINA GAME GUYS!!!!! pearl literally mentions that marina and her sleep in the SAME BED???? marina is so autistic. my little autism creature. SHE MAKES DINO ARMS IN THE ENDING SCENE AUGHHHHHGHHH MY HEARTTT i love marina so much AND PEARL. SUCH A SILLY GOOBER. acht is so precious too... BUT I CNAT BELIEVE THAT THEY MADE THEM WHITE*??? ACHT IS NOT WHITE NINTENDO. anyways i love eight and her little found family full of lesbians. they are all lesbians your honor. we are raising lesbians in this house.

so yeah. i hope i can finish the run atleast ONCE. but like. idk i havent finished the game but side order jsut makes me feel. sad... and lonely...?? unlike octo expension where you could see more and more people using the metros and the chatrooms between marina and pearl are just AUUGGHHH OE IS A GAME. ABOUT CONNECTIONS OK. it makes me feel warm and happy and even though eight became traumatized i like to think that she healed and in the process met so many important people in her life.

in side order i dont see anything in eight*??? is she traumatized??? is she vibing??? is she happy to help??? I LITERALLY CANT TELL. side order makes me feel so cold and empty like do you guys understand what i mean. and its probably becasue it doesnt even take place in the real world. and the thing is. i understand that side order is supposed to be everything that OE couldnt be. i understand that. both games have their own quirks BUT. i just cant seem to make myself love it unlike any other story mode in splatoon...... im really trying to be not biased here but yeah. these are my opinions for side order

AFTER GAME THOUGHTS

HELLO. so yes i somehow managed to win the game. and honestly. the final boss was pretty fun and everyone was so cute at the end omg... but i still think that side order is a bit underdevloped.... i dont even know if ill try to %100 is cuz playing it makes me SO STRESSFUL im glad i get to finish a run BUT i will definetly not be touching side order atleast for a while.... but despite i had plenty of stuff i didnt like in side order the ending managed to make me forget all that haha

i hate the duolingo leagues mechanic because i am... honestly not all that competitive, but i AM an achievement completionist and theres an achievement for finishing #1 in the diamond league, so. here i am. in the goddamn diamond league

but i suspect hardly anyone is being like... strategic? about xp collection? because to ME the obvious strat is to do regular lessons until you get the 2x xp bonus and then blast through as many timed challenges and legendary challenges as you can, because THOSE normally give you 40xp but with the bonus it's 80xp and you can get through a good number of them in the 15 minutes before the 2x bonus expires (and redo the timed challenges as many times as you want to farm xp). so you can easily get like thousands of xp this way with a pretty trivial time investment? but even the people who put the little gold trophy emoji on their leaderboard icon (not ME. i put the 🇨🇳 to indicate im learning chinese because i have TASTE) mostly do not seem to be doing this and i dont get it. how can you possibly expect to get the fucking gold trophy this way

that said, my other Strat rn is to study chinese until i get the 2x xp bonus, then switch over to german to farm xp, because i tested really far into the german course (ages ago i was using it to review grammar, i mostly did not learn german off duolingo) and didnt do any of the timed challenges or legendary challenges (i didnt care to farm xp but im also not sure they even existed at the time). honestly its pretty decent german review because i continue to be terrible at grammar :/ i'm sufficiently fluent in german that i can finish the challenges faster so it's really good for xp farming, but i'm also kind of annoyed with myself for letting my original goals of learning chinese and japanese be distorted by incentives into reviewing german
