Last water year (October-September) groundwater recharge efforts in California led to the storage of 4.1 million acre feet in the aquifer. For comparison, California moves about 1 million acre feet a year from Northern California to Southern California.

This is amazing news! A wet year (and a surprise resurrection of a lost lake and some 1929-ass water policy) led to the storage of several years worth of water in places where it’s very badly needed. Also groundwater recharge is a lot faster and easier than we thought it was even five years ago!
