can't get money without compromising your health being around people, try to get money online sell your data, sell your identity, it's implied, you don't know, it's behind your back. Try to get money, fake your soul, smile for survival, smile for the people who don't give a shit about your health; try to get money, get rejected, get nowhere, get motivated, need to organize, money in the meantime? Sell your clothes or old books unwanted, risk youe health at the post office. Meanwhile no money, try to get money, wait for the next time you're allowed to attempt it, a low paid job that could keep your body safe, but when do the drawings get made? Not even when there's time, it all goes into stress, time isn't enough, try to get money, get mad at the system, get mad at the president, get mad at the billionaires. Meanwhile the earth is dying, they've killed it, they're killing it, and it's too hard to watch for people so they just keep trying to get the money, try to get distracted, get convinced wrinkles are the enemy, your nose is the enemy, your thighs is the enemy. Your clothes are made by slaves, what's the other option, try to get the money to try to help people on the opposite side of your world. Lie here and take care of yourself. A little bit of yoga, a little bit of dancing, a little bit of planting, and you believe in life again. You believe in love always cause it's right here in your hand, but across the ocean, so you try to get the money, get rejected again, do laundry as needed, clean the house as needed, clean yourself, be careful you don't get infected, need to relax from the stress of loneliness and the stress of being stressed and the stress of family and your grandma's sometimes nice but she doesn't know you're gay and what would it change if she did, would she take back all the stamps she sent for my best friend I want a house with? Trying to get the money while mad money exists. Trying to get the money mostly in my head, planning différent ways to stay safe while I attempt it, I'm alone and afraid, just want to hold her hand under the roof we'd both choose the paint for. Mad, sad, exhausted, just the thought of trying freezes me into my thoughts, racing all at once, I want to find a way, without breaking my self, without losing myself. Should I use the time to learn how to drive at last, there's time, you've got time, mom said, all this time, one month, at least you could do that, as though days are empty and I'm happy. I'm empty mostly and they're pretending to be happy. Am I even trying to get the money? I want tojust cause I need to, and every time the thought comes more urgent, falling into the plans again and a minute later remembers how that all feels like corruption, but what's the other way, even the other ways corrupt. Influencers and video makers and shitty text writers of 3lines on a blank square that's enough now to make it, attention spans diminished so it sells better than explorations into the souls and time my favorite writer writes about. can't begin to talk to about the unfair. online they've been making memes about abuse, and this time it's very deeply strange and weirdly unexpected and i don't understand how this started when years ago they were a'l canceling him. Anyway, my rage keeps me from becoming successful at anything, don't spend enough time lingering into mediocrity to become something. I'm privileged, I'm housed and fed and I've lived here my entire life, and yet there's guilt and yet I'm helping and yet I'm informing and yet I'm trying to keep them safe to even though she acts like the rules of two years ago still apply. Informed but enraged, that's the cost always. There's war, in more than one country. There's famine, there's storms, there's drought, there's the end that they'll say they'd warned us about so they did nothing to stop it. There's the future they want to force the unborn to have, there's the life they want to live now but won't protect now.
the religious obsessed with possessing the truth they invented and forcing the lies and forcing ignorance and forcing poverty and blindness until they're rich enough they think they're invincible until they're safe if there's no god to save them cause at least they'll have money the poor gave them. They think they predicted this when the earth was still healthy, they just wrecked it to prove a point. Maybe if we all faced it we could all fix it. Everything was caused by us, everything can be fixed.

Defining the 4 genres of blues music
urban blues
urban blues will have been performed in cities with significant african american populations, like memphis, detroit, chicago from the 1930s
more codified and elaborate as the performer had to adapt to a broader audience aesthetic
vaudeville blues singers were popular in the 1920s
unusual keys would be used to reach people at the back of a room, and create surprise
common themes: migration/dailylife/ social consciousness/ travel/ war/ segregation/ relationships/ activism and politics
3 major urban blues categories: sophisticated version of country blues / amplified country/ amplified jazz-inflected blues
1930s sophisticated country blues
many jazz-inflected bands toured and performed in clubs and concert venues throughout California south and south-west
1950s and 60s, urban blues would tour europe and uk, which influenced formation of blues rock groups like led zeppelin and eric clapton and the paul butterfield blues band and dire straits
almost all urban blues songs were vocals with instrumentals accompniment
followed a 3-line verse form, where the first line was repeated in the second then the thought was repeated in the rhyming third line
most verses began with a quatrain taking up the same amount of time as the first line of the standard 3line verse
the sophistiocated country blues would be backed by a guitar or piano
denser yexture and rural blues due to a complex harmony and the vocals would be ligher instead of raspy
amplified post war2 blues would see singers taking more liberties with cries, moans, hollers and melodic elaborations than chicago singers
one guitar would emphasise the rhythm, another would play melodic riffs and figures and included a harmonica too
jazz-inflected blues would have a singer, guitarist with a small jazz band (piano, bass, drums and horns), the vocals would be shouters
urban blues commented on the ups and downs of daily life, protesting mistreatment by lovers and discrimination and economic hardship
country blues
relies on the expressive power of the voice with sparse instrumental accompaniment (guitar or harmonica) which is more improvisatory and freedom than urban blues
the music of day to day life
delta blues
also known as mississippi blues
solo performances accompanied by guitar and relied on techniques like sliding of a bottle neck to blend the notes
melodic phrases on the guitar to respond to the voice in an improvised call and response pattern
song topics: failed romance, sexual escapades and tales of life on the road
high contrast to the classic blues, because this tended to be males singer- guitarists
recording of blues music was curtailed during the great depression
during ww2 traditional blues fell out of popularity
rhythm and blues (rnb)
post war african-american music
leads to white rock music which has been derived from it
a development of the sopisticated urban music which had been developing from the 1930s
large group and small group rhythm and blues
small groups would consist of 5-7 pieces and each would take their turn in the limelight
this influenced the development of rock and roll and there are no hard rules defining them from eachother so much of the music could fit both categories
by the mid 50s, much of the guitar-led electric blues music from chicago and mamphis was rhythm and blues as it appealed to older buyers
by 1960s rhythm and blues had aged with its audience
rhythm and blues has attained a new meaning due to british bands which followed, like the 'beatles' and 'rolling stones' which tended to be mod rock bands calling their work r&b to attract an audience
thoughts:
I now have a better understanding of the categories of blues music and i intend to now research different Belgian beers and beer favours so that i can find a flavour pairing for one of the each genres of beer to be based off of. i hope it will also help with the design of the packaging, looking at which are more sophisticated, what each category sings about in themes and how the music in the background might sound. this will allow me to create a visual correlation with the sound of the music for a unique take on beer packaging and to represent Blegium&Blues bar well.

Tumblr media
Polar bear peppermint creams
Ingredients
250g icing sugar
1 egg white, beaten
few drops of peppermint essence
15 chocolate sweets (we used Waitrose blue and green chocolate beans)
Method
STEP 1Sieve the icing sugar into a large bowl. Mix in the egg white, a little at a time – stop adding it when you have a soft dough that feels like plasticine.
STEP 2Add 3 drops of the peppermint essence, mix well and taste. Add another drop if it isn’t minty enough.
STEP 3Roll half the mixture into 15 balls, about the size of cherry tomatoes, then flatten them with your hand to make the bear heads.
STEP 4Place on sheets of baking parchment on a large board or tray. Using half the remaining mixture, make blueberry-sized balls and flatten them out onto the heads to make snouts. Add chocolate sweets for the noses.
STEP 5Use the rest of the mixture to make the ears. Shape them into tiny balls and press them gently into the top of the heads with your fingertips. Use a cocktail stick to shape the eyes.
STEP 6Leave the polar bears to dry for 3-4 hrs, or overnight. Eat within 1 month.
White chocolate unicorn bark
Ingredients
600g good-quality white chocolate broken into squares
food colouring gel of your choice (we used pink, purple, blue, yellow and green)
1-2 tsp hundreds and thousands
1 tbsp jelly sweets
4 tsp mini marshmallows
Method
STEP 1Measure all your ingredients into separate bowls. Heat the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-sec bursts until melted, stirring each time. Or put it in a heatproof bowl set over (but not touching) a pan of simmering water (an adult should help with this bit). Stir frequently until the chocolate has melted smoothly.
STEP 2Pour the melted chocolate into four or five small bowls. Use the food colouring to dye the chocolate in the colours you like best. Food colouring can be very strong, so start by adding a tiny amount, mixing well, then add more if you like.
STEP 3Line a large tray or board with baking parchment and spoon the different coloured chocolates onto the parchment in puddles, in any order you like. The different colours should start to join up and become one big puddle.
STEP 4Use a skewer or a cocktail stick to swirl the colours together, but don’t swirl too much, otherwise the colours will blend into one. Gently shake the tray from side to side to help the chocolate sit in an even layer and fill in any gaps.
STEP 5Decorate with your sprinkles, sweets and marshmallows. Leave the chocolate to set in a cool place, or overnight, until set hard. Then break it into pieces and place in gift boxes lined with baking parchment. Will keep in the fridge for up to a week.
Christmas rocky road
Ingredients
100g butter, cut into cubes, plus extra for the tin
250g Christmas biscuits, such as shortbread or chocolate biscuits
75g shelled nuts (use up a bag of whole nuts, or bits and bobs from the baking cupboard)
100g mixed dried fruit (such as raisins, cherries or glacé ginger)
75g Christmas sweets (candy canes, marshmallows or jelly sweets)
400g milk or plain chocolate (or a mixture of both), chopped
140g golden syrup (weigh this straight into the pan you will use for melting)
2 tbsp sprinkles, or more sweets, to decorate
Method
STEP 1Butter and line a 20cm square tin, or use a 20cm square silicone mould. Break the biscuits into pieces – they need to be no smaller than a pea, but not too chunky or your rocky road won’t hold together.
STEP 2Halve any larger nuts either by snapping them or carefully cutting with a knife, then combine them with the biscuits. Halve any large pieces of dried fruit and chop or snap sweets into smaller pieces, then add these to the bowl.
STEP 3Melt 300g of the chocolate, the butter and the golden syrup carefully in a pan set over a low heat, stirring occasionally, then pour this over the biscuit and nut mixture and mix together so the chocolate covers everything.
STEP 4Tip the mixture into the tin, then level the top – it doesn’t need to be completely smooth. Melt the remaining chocolate in the microwave in short blasts, or in a heatproof bowl over a small pan of simmering water, then drizzle this over the top and sprinkle with the decorations. Chill for at least 3 hrs or overnight before cutting into squares. Will keep in the fridge for three to four days.
Gingerbread men
Ingredients
225g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
salt
2tsp bicarbonate of soda
ground ginger
cinnamon
75g unsalted butter
100g soft brown sugar
100g golden syrup
Method
STEP 1Heat oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5 and line a baking tray with baking parchment. Sieve the flour, salt, bicarb, ginger and cinnamon into a large bowl. Heat the butter, sugar and syrup until dissolved. Leave the sugar mixture to cool slightly, then mix into the dry ingredients to form a dough. Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 mins.
STEP 2On a surface lightly dusted with flour, roll out the dough to a ¼-inch thickness. Stamp out the gingerbread men shapes with a cutter, then re-roll any off-cuts and repeat. Place your gingerbread shapes on the lined trays, allowing space for them to spread. Cook for 10-15 mins, then remove from the oven and leave to cool.
Mince pies
Ingredients
1 large jar mincemeat (about 600g)
2 satsumas, segmented and finely chopped
1 apple, finely chopped
zest 1 lemon
little icing sugar, for dusting
For the pastry
375g plain flour
260g unsalted butter, softened
125g caster sugar, plus extra for sprinkling
1 large egg, plus 1 beaten egg for glazing
Method
STEP 1Place 375g plain flour and 260g softened unsalted butter in a bowl and rub together to a crumb consistency.
STEP 2Add 125g caster sugar and 1 large beaten egg, and mix together.
STEP 3Tip out onto a lightly floured surface and fold until the pastry comes together, be careful not to over mix.
STEP 4Wrap the pastry in cling film and chill for 10 mins.
STEP 5Scoop the large jar of mincemeat into a bowl and add 2 segmented satsumas, 1 finely chopped apple and zest of 1 lemon.
STEP 6Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7.
STEP 7Roll out the pastry to 3mm thick.
STEP 8Using a round cutter (about 10cm), cut out 16 bases and place them into muffin trays. Put 1½ tbsp mincemeat mixture into each. Brush the edge of each pie with a little beaten egg.
STEP 9Re-roll out the pastry to cut 7cm lids and press them on top to seal. Glaze with the beaten egg, sprinkle with the extra caster sugar, then make a small cut in the tops.
STEP 10Bake the mince pies for 15-20 mins until golden brown. Leave to cool before releasing them from the muffin trays and dusting with a little more icing sugar before serving.
