Following up on this excellent post from @nightgoodomens, it really is astonishing to see so many people in the GO fandom misunderstanding the characters/personalities of Aziraphale and Crowley. While I by no means am against people having head canons or differing interpretations, it has become frustrating to see people pushing their ideas about Aziraphale and Crowley onto others and declaring them to be official canon, leaving no room for any kind of discussion.
One of the things spoken about in the above linked post is the denigrating of Crowley, which seems to be a near constant in the fandom at this point, particularly in relation to the "apology dance" scene. (Which, to be fair, is chock full of soft!Dom Aziraphale vibes--thank you, Michael Sheen.) What seems to keep getting missed is that the entire apology dance routine is something that Aziraphale and Crowley do to each other. There is just as much of a possibility that Crowley sat there with a similarly smug look on his face and let out a guttural, snakey "Very nice" when Aziraphale did the dance in the years he listed off, because they play this game together.
Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship is one of equals, and I think this is also something people seem to not understand well. It seems as though a lot of fans who project themselves onto Crowley want to be taken care of, and so they want to believe the same of Crowley, and that the reason he wants to be taken care of is because he is broken. But someone doesn't have to be broken to want someone to take care of them. Sometimes the people who are a shambles on the outside can be dominant, just as sometimes the most buttoned up, put together people can also be submissive. And sometimes the people who look in control on the outside can feel not at all that way on the inside.
But this nuanced thinking seems to increasingly be difficult for many GO fans, particularly those who spend a great deal of time on social media, a place where people are either blindly praised or denigrated and torn down, and where such behavior greatly reinforces that binary, black-and-white mindset. We so badly want the world to be clear-cut--good vs. evil, heroes vs. bad guys--but very often that just isn't how things work. And it is exactly what Terry and Neil were trying to speak against in the GO book (and subsequently, the TV show).
The other thing that I think influences a lot of fans' perceptions about Aziraphale and Crowley is their chosen corporations (i.e., Crowley being thin and Aziraphale being plump). There is an automatic assumption that thin somehow equals more vulnerable, and for all of the emphasis that is placed on Aziraphale and Crowley being genderfluid/nonbinary/not subscribing to traditional gender roles, it's Crowley who seems to be viewed as more androgynous/femme, and is therefore looked at as inherently vulnerable. Meanwhile Aziraphale is thicker and viewed as more masculine, and therefore he is somehow inherently not vulnerable. Yet if the body types were reversed, it seems highly likely that fans' attitudes toward them would be much different.
(It also saddens me that this seems to mirror the fans' treatment of Michael and David, where Michael serves as a target for the fans' venom and is seen as less desirable/more threatening because he presents more traditionally masculine, while David is not targeted or attacked and is seen as more desirable/less threatening because he presents much more androgynously. Consequently, many fans find it easy not to sympathize with Michael, and when you can readily disregard someone's feelings, it becomes easier to see them as "less." In the case of Aziraphale and Michael, it leaves no room for either one to be vulnerable and is unfair to both of them.)
What I have always taken away from Good Omens--and from Michael and David's portrayal of Aziraphale and Crowley and how deeply they both understand these characters--is that Crowley doesn't need to be a perfect angel for Aziraphale to like him. He just needs to be a little bit of a good person. And Aziraphale doesn't need to be a perfect demon for Crowley to like him--he just needs to be enough of a bastard to be worth knowing. Neither one has to fully subscribe to the other's outlook or point of view to listen to what they have to say.
Aziraphale and Crowley meet in the middle. In the place that becomes their side, and where they take care of each other, fight with each other, and love each other. And that's more than most of us could ever ask or hope for...

imagining that in their teens the losers club always laughed at valentine’s day. after all, none of them ever got chocolates from secret admirers at school (unless it was a prank), none of them ever got confessed to behind the school (unless it was a prank), none of them ever got asked out on dates (unless it was a prank), and they all soon grew to roll their eyes at the holiday”.
instead, they liked to spend february 14th together, as friends. by the time they were 16, it was sort of a tradition for them to all go to the movies on feb 14th, spend their allowance on candy and popcorn and junk food, and binge watch all the bad rom coms that the movie theatre is showing and laugh at and make fun of them, and it was a tradition that they all loved.
until…
when they’re 19, richie and eddie start dating. and when their first valentine’s day as a couple rolls around, they find themselves in a bit of a dilemma. of course they love their losers club tradition and still want to do that, but now that they’re in love they don’t think valentines day is as stupid as they used to, and they want to do something together. but of course they can’t without their friends being suspicious, and richie and eddie haven’t told any of their friends that they’re dating- well, except for stan, but stan figured it out on his own.
so a few days before valentine’s day, richie and eddie come up with a plan. the losers are planning on watching 3 movies. richie and eddie will watch the first movie, then stay for the first 10 minutes of the second, before sneaking out the back (thanks to stanley for helping them sneak out unseen by distracting the others) and going on their valentines date.
their date is perfect. richie had a picnic already packed and ready to go in his car, and they went to a small field clearing not too far from the movie theatre and have their picnic in the bed of richie’s truck. sure, it was february and still freezing and not exactly picnic weather, but richie and eddie both still think it’s the best date ever.
eddie’s had a timer set on his phone from the moment they left the theatre, so he can keep track of how long they have before they have to return. they’re just finishing up their desert when eddie gets the fifteen minute warning, and they quickly scramble back into the car and richie speeds back to the theatre. stan keeps them updated, sending texts of reassurance that nobody has realized they’re missing, and when they slip back into the seats behind the rest of their friends just as the movie ends and goes to the credits, richie and eddie bask in their success.
the only thing they don’t know how to answer, is when the lights turn on, and the losers club turn around and ask richie and eddie why they’re so out of breath.

Devastating that you had ten peaceful years to get into Jean and Jeremy but you only became interested in them when your headcanons got an expiration date... Like yeah Ill always keep smoker Jeremy in my heart no matter what Big Canon tries to sell me but it is a lowkey hilarious turn of events for you. Here you dropped this *hands you a cardboard L*
BAHAHA (takes the L) thank you............................... to be honest ive always liked jean and i never really cared for jeremy beyond his friendship with kevin and those opinions haven't changed so much as they have evolved. i still don't think much of jeremy beyond that he's funny and a good man, and i'm glad he's a good captain for jean, but there's not much investment here. perhaps the new book might make him more worthwhile to think upon, but truly there's very little about jeremy that makes him interesting or engaging to me beyond the amusement of his dynamics with jean and kevin. i daresay that as a protagonist for tsc he'll be the weaker end
BUT YEAH IT'S TRAGIC. it's all very tragic. i'm not looking forward to ten years of fanwork getting disproved or rendered useless, and to me, that's the most awkward part about the timing of tsc's release. i don't think there's anything anyone could do about this, or if there was any way nora sakavic could've timed it better, but i guess it's just still a little sad to think about. personally i'm not excited for the influx of post-tsc release content that suffocates the fan content made in the past ten years

This Pride I want us all to take a minute to reflect on those brave but forgotten queer souls who worked on The Epilogues and Homestuck 2 with the goal of seeing Homestuck with queer content 'done right' and fucked it up so much worse than anyone thought humanly possible.

What's really wild about the kiss right is like, the entire scene I could feel it all building up to a kiss, but like in the back of my head I was like nahhhh a kiss won't happen! They don't need a kiss at all, who needs a kiss, it's just not them. It's not something Neil Gaiman would do, after all I had some distant memory of an ask bouncing around in my brain. I have no idea what ask, but idk something.
So yeah I was like shhhh to my brain that was like oh my god are they gonna like it feels like it might be time for a desperate plea kiss! And then it happened????????????????? And my partner looked at me for my reaction (because she got spoilt sad :() and I know what I was expressing.
As in, I wasn't expressing at all. And I'm very expressive. I was just staring like is this real, is this actually real right now. And of course I was experiencing the utter shock of the scene, the utter like anger on Crowley's behalf (look, look okay after I calmed down it was fine but like what can I say I'm a redhead, I have to be on Crowley's side by law okay) But I just wasn't expressing, I was just staring at them. Blank.
And just! It was so unexpectedly expected? The scene very much was like screaming at them to kiss, with the music and all. It's the payoff right, ultimately, we were waiting all season for a kiss between Nina and Maggie, right, and instead we get their parallels kissing instead. In the world's most static kiss ever but like you know... desperate times and all that, can't really kiss well when you know ya barely know how humans do it, it seems.
And I'm still in shock when I rewatch what is about an 11 second give or take a second (I counted) kiss. And it happened, and it was real, and not in a million years would I have seen it coming, nor would I have imagined it would happen like that either.
But we got a kiss, and I don't know, it would be cruel and funny if it was the only one. After all, they don't need to kiss (or maybe they do with how Aziraphale pressed his fingers into his lips). But, I don't know... I think they need a redemption kiss, you know... some practice. Something because oh my god, it's a cool kiss to watch but that was a harddd press of the lips and that's just it.
Still, the point is, sometimes you can feel as the audience that something is coming even if your brain is telling you it's impossible. And that's good writing, it's good acting.

I watched When You Finish Saving The World Recently so now I'm going to rate least to most likely Stanley Uris would be to kill *some* of Finn Wolfhard's characters if he got trapped in a room with them.
Trevor Spengler: 1/10 I think these two just wouldn't have much to say to each other and that means that Stan wouldn't have much reason to kill him. They're both just kinda there.
Miles Fairchild: 4/10 Miles would try to freak Stan out and Stan is just like ,,, why are you like this?? Miles would just annoy him.
Richie Tozier: 5/10. He's Richie, need I say more? Stan loves him but Richie catches him in the wrong mood and they're trapped in a room,,,chances are not good.
Ziggy Katz: 8/10 These two would bitch at each other so much. Stan would HATE him and Ziggy would think Stan has a stick up his ass
Mike Wheeler: 10/10 Honestly Mike is just as likely to kill Stan as Stan would be to kill him. This would be the battle of the snarky bitches.

I was thinking, when are you a part of a fandom? Is it just when you enjoy the content that is made for this subject or is it when you actively interact with the fandom? Like when you not only reblog things but also add your thoughts about this subject, when you create things for this fandom, when you comment and talk to people about this subject, or can I feel that I'm a part of a fandom only because I enjoy things and I love to read about it and just admire what other people made? No new thoughts, no new art, no new fanfics, only reblog and admiration
