Hi! I've gotten very into the Motti/Jerjerrod ship because of your fics, so I wanted to ask: how did you start shipping them? I'm very sold on the pairing now, so I was curious how you discovered it if you don't mind sharing!

WHY YOU SHOULD SHIP CONAN ANTONIO MOTTI & TIAAN JERJERROD, THE HOTTEST IMPERIALS YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF

While I've written a lot of Motti/Jerjerrod and have developed quite a few headcanons for their families, personal histories, etc., for the purposes of this post I am sticking to as much canon info as possible. Although their screen time is limited in the original trilogy, there's enough one-off references or minor background appearances in other Star Wars media to give you a solid understanding of who they are as characters, and why their chemistry would be absolutely volcanic.

CANON BACKGROUND INFO: CHARACTER SIMILARITIES

Extreme Wealth: both men are from families who are absolutely loaded. Jerjerrod in particular seems to be from some level of planetary aristocracy.

Navy Men: Jerjerrod is a Rear Admiral in the Navy before being catapulted to the Moff posting, and Motti likewise is a Naval officer.

Death Star Link: both commanded the Death Stars—Motti for the DS-1, Jerjerrod for the DS-2. Also, Jerjerrod helped design the first Death Star, so we have a canon basis for him interacting with Motti there.

High-ranking Naval officers at very young ages: in A New Hope, Motti is an Admiral and also commander of the DS-1 on the sunny side of his 30s (the actor was 31). Likewise, when Motti is commanding the first Death Star, Jerjerrod is right there with him as a Rear Admiral (again, a good basis for them canonically interacting) and he's also in his very early 30s as well:

Both men are members of the hyper-exclusive Joint Chiefs (see above excerpt), which is (per Wookieepedia) the executive group that advised the Emperor on all martial-related matters. Here they are at work:

Force Choke Buddies: Both Motti and Jerjerrod are the only two officers to be choked by Vader on-screen and survive. Narrative parallels my beloved.

Clever Boys: Based on the fact that both Motti and Jerjerrod have ascended the ranks so rapidly, in postings that were probably based mostly on merit (i.e., I would assume a nepotism hire in the Empire gets a big fuckoff war ship and a posting in the Outer Rim, maybe, but you’re not putting him on the Joint Chiefs where he can do REAL damage on a galactic scale, nor would you put Idiot Cousin Cleetus in charge of the Death Star if he couldn’t cut it), we can therefore extrapolate that they are very clever/capable in their respective fields. Jerjerrod is a textbook overachiever and Motti is a pain in the ass who's naturally skilled at warfare; put them in the same room and watch them row until they're breathless.

They’re Hot Actually: This is more of an aesthetic focus but hey, we can be shallow: they’re both six feet tall (going off the actors here—Wookieepedia has an absolutely insane level of incorrect body stats for minor characters) and, in my (correct) opinion, very good looking. Tall, hot, rich, entrenched in the upper echelons of a sci-fi fascist military organization—what’s not to love?

EVIDENCE OF HOTNESS

CANON BACKGROUND INFO: DIFFERENCES WHICH GUARANTEE SEXUAL TENSION

I. NAVAL EXPERTISE:

Motti is an active wartime commander. He’s mean, he’s aggressive, he’s a spiked cog in the Imperial war machine. There’s a surprisingly rich amount of canon info (though a lot was lost in Legends, sadly) on how Motti is King Dick of Fuck Mountain:

Jerjerrod, in contrast, is NOT at home commanding a fleet in the field of war. He’s…well, a nerd. He’s a mathematically minded technocrat with a blue-blooded pedigree and a habitual uneasiness in the face of danger. Shove a blaster at Motti and he’ll blow your head off. Shove a blaster at Jerjerrod and watch him flounder.

Seriously, we know that Jerjerrod (1) wanted to design starships, which is why he joined the Navy—it’s the engineering and architectural work that calls to him, not warfare, and (2) he’s interested in The Finer Things, like his art vault that’s definitely not filled with erotic art of handsome men and fancy jewels, which were hilariously burgled in canon:

II. CORE WORLDS VERSUS OUTER RIM:

Conan Antonio Motti is from Seswenna, in the Seswenna sector (where Tarkin’s homeworld of Eriadu is located). This sector is the wealthy carve-out in the Outer Rim, where the big money families who don’t live in the Core are located.

Tiaan Jerjerrod is from Tinnel IV (also called “Tinnel”) in the Quanta sector, which is in the Core and notably conservative as a planet. So you get the contrast of culture/values here: the Core is stifling, plummy, oppressive and rigid in its customs and laws; and the Outer Rim is…laxer. There’s a sort of muggy languidness going on out in the more distant slice of space, and it seems to be reflected in the characterization we get for these (extremely) minor Imperials.

III. DIFFERING PHYSIQUES:

Ok so this isn’t “canon background info” so much as “canon physical info about the actors” but I would be remiss if I did not point out that, while both Motti and Jerjerrod are equally tall, Motti is…a lot wider. Jerjerrod has an excellent set of shoulders but he’s absolutely a long lean line compared to Motti. I mean, just look at them in turtlenecks:

IV. CONTRASTING PERSONALITIES:

What we see of Motti in A New Hope and subsequent media is a man who is arrogant, loud, and prone to saying exactly what he wants to, consequences be damned. He is not tactful; he’s bold and aggressive (which fits his inexplicable American accent, by the way; he’s a cowboy, he’s shooting from the hip, he’s in your face with his hot opinions and you cannot hit the ‘lift button fast enough to run away from him).

Seriously, just look how Motti canonically exercises as an example of his obnoxious alpha-male personality (btw this is the single gayest piece of writing in all of Star Wars):

From the novel Death Star, by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry (2011). “Stripped to a speed-trap and drenched in his own sweat” sure is…something. (If you’d like to read about Jerjerrod losing his marbles over Motti’s speed-strap I have conveniently written a story here).

Jerjerrod in contrast is…well, arrogant as well, it seems, with how dismissive he is of Vader. But he’s snippy, and passive-aggressive in a way Motti is not. He also seems to choose his words far more carefully, and he’s noticeably fearful in a way other officers don’t appear to be (which makes sense, given he’s been a desk admiral his entire career until we see him thrust center-stage as commander of the DS-2 in RotJ; he's uncomfortable so he's getting nervy and whiny).

The rough draft of RotJ does a great job at showing what an absolute passive-aggressive bitch Jerjerrod can be. Witness (also he's a Grand Moff in the draft, which is neat on its own):

Jerjerrod is a sort of unholy mix of star mathlete and head cheerleader, whereas Motti is a jock in charge of a fleet of warships. Naturally they should bang, and also marry each other.

V. THE CHOKING SCENES:

A great example of their contrasting/complimentary personalities is in their respective choking scenes.

CONTRASTING:

Motti is choked and he takes it like a man:

Jerjerrod is choked and he looks like a hamster being squeezed too hard:

COMPLIMENTARY:

Motti is freed from the Force choke, and he looks to be seconds away from standing up and starting another fight.

Jerjerrod is freed from the Force choke, and he gets a really snide attitude about it as well (witness the hips), but of course unlike Motti he’s going to tactfully retreat. Like Motti, he's going to go back to his room and bitch about the AUDACITY of this workplace assault, probably while soaking in the tub.

So yeah, you can easily envision these two in a Joint Chiefs meeting arguing back and forth, the air is electric, everyone is uncomfortable, and the sexual tension is high enough to throw off the artificial gravity generator.

TL;DR

This is getting too long, whoops. Tl;dr: here’s why the Motti/Jerjerrod ship is so great:

Motti and Jerjerrod are a study in contrasts: two men on essentially equal footing as to height, wealth, and power, but radically different in their personalities—fire and ice, red oni and blue oni, however you want to put it. They’re foils in some ways and truly complimentary in others. Let them poke and prod and obsess, let the sexual tension boil over until they’re drowning in it, and let them go at each other like cats in heat. They deserve it.

i feel like i should also say like before all of this was happening - i was considering just moving blogs and taking a break in general.

i rlly like tumblr (most of the time) and its fun for me and ive been in x reader since like . idk 2014 thru different fandoms but i think this is my first blog where i like really fr spent time there but even before all of this Insane Tomfoolery i was just considering stepping back cause it was making me feel really cluttered in an adhd way. i like move perpetually

before tumblr i had not one but two spam accs w hundreds of (now archived) posts and diaries on insta. and before this tumblr i had like 3 anime blogs , bandom and criminal minds blog etc.

but my beloved main acc is where i made rlly cherished friends so its not as easy for me to pack up shop lol. and my main is mostly peaceful, most of the hate messages are sparse unlike before

it does for me personally feel like a sign of the universe sort of thing that this nightmarish discourse (that more honestly upsets me personally because of my trauma) happened when i was already sort of not with the vibes and contemplating these choices

my interest in bkg or bhna hasn't** really died down but it has hibernated. i feel like im so up its ass i just live there and ive exhausted posts for the time being.

anyway sdjsndkjs. this feels like a weirdly personal post to make the point is it just felt like things lined up where a break was inevitable. i would like my online time spent writing and reading more and plastering beautiful art along the walls .

and not to be gay or tender or anything but i do love all of u and ur presence on my dash and i'd be ur mutual in every lifetime. so on and so forth

honestly the fact that a lot of the same arguments against transandrophobia are recycled against gay men having their own flag/the "toothpaste flag" is pretty telling

the flag shit really gets me. WHY are these people so threatened by gay men having their own flag i do not understand lmao

the moment I realized that the anti flag people were just hateful was when I saw a tiktok saying mlm were "stealing wlw culture" by comparing a pic of 2 dudes in a shopping cart to the pic of the girl putting on the other girls makeup.............

there's a subsection of people who don't really think for themselves when it comes to discourse and just let the first opinion, or the most aggressive opinion, or whatever opinion lets them fit in, influence their beliefs. And the really truly hateful people capitalize on that, until it gets trickled down to people who just half ass a reasoning because they just need to prove their first instinct was correct. and its so annoying!!!!!!

Why do I see bottom/top discourse in the year of our lord 2023. Why do some of you still believe these things are personality types. When will you learn taking it up the ass isn't a personality. Do you think straight women are all flustering little submissive babies just because they take it in hole 1 or 2 by their boyfriends? Do you think that's what your default must be if you're not the one impaling someone with your penis? Do you think there are no shy/submissive/flushing tops? Have you ever had sex before or actually read about it before entering this argument?

The amount of rage I'm filled with when I see bottom/top memes where it's clear the person came out of a 2014 uke seme discourse is incalculable. When I see bottom being synonym for sub and top for dom it's even worse.

Some of you know jack shit about sex besides what you read on some pwp ao3 <4000 word fic and assume you're the masters of gay/lesbian sex.

I personally think as long as you’re a journalist, why shouldn’t one be biased? it’s a sport at the end of the day. A technical one so there’s a more quantifiable logic but a sport regardless. I don’t like comparing F1 to other sports but atm that’s what’s lacking (imo). Rivalry makes a sport. it allows like minded people bond over mutual love/distaste (maybe those are harsh words and it gets borderline toxic most times but ygwim). Again, you and you alone are entitled to how you enjoy your hobbies.

I appreciate Max and Lewis fans so much cuz imo they’re the ones keeping the lights on. These drivers haven’t been in a title fight in a while lol but the fans would argue over the color of the sky if they could. Everyday Alonso fans say “if Alonso had gone to… in 2014, he’d have had… championships by now”. Sainz and Leclerc fans as of lately are also at each other’s throats cuz these are great drivers.

When Lewis got announced to Ferrari, people fell to their knees cuz that’s the enemy, that was the death star. Sure this may not be our grand parents Ferrari and here we sing and do marshmallow challenges now but it’s a long rivalry. Mclaren-Ferrari, Red Bull-Mercedes. I’m not trying to dissect what was said or what caused what but Toto seemingly trying to cozy up with Helmut and Max felt like backstabbing to some.

delusional takes?… exists everywhere, some driver’s fans have blamed the wind,mirrors, chassis and even his own team sabotaging him for poor performances. saying the other teammate’s win has been “nullified”.

AFCON, Nig vs Cameron, one team absolutely bottled it but the fans were dancing up until the last minute to boost morale. it’s what fans do. Objectively is good but so are biases, it makes us human imo.

These days a lot of the races imo are boring asl. It’s why DTS tries to milk slight disagreements as intra team rivalries. There’s also new wave of fans who’s welcome to the sport ofcourse but i just personally don’t understand this “I love every driver and want to see everyone do well”. If i wore an arsenal muffler with a Tottenham jersey in North london i’m getting jumped over rivalry that’s been here almost 100 years lol.

Again yes it gets extremely racist and parasocial but that’s the toxicity that doesn’t belong in a fandom but exists in most if not all. It’s all capitalism at the end of the day but at the core of it or what it should be is a sport

Yeah that's what I meant by everyone is entitled to enjoy the sport the way they want. I personally think it's fine if you're 100% delulu biased following other like minded delulu biased people if that's what's fun to you! God knows the delulu posts are the funniest on this hellsite!

I understand what you mean with rivalry and I agree but personally didn't find the teamLH-orange army war fun at all because it got nasty really quickly. Fans were hating on each other and very aggressive about their opinions and I don't like that. I like heated arguments fine but when it tips into hate then it becomes a bad experience for most people.

To take your football example, I think singing songs in the stadium, making fun of the other team and fans, it's all playful and part of the culture. But fuck ultras, you know what I mean? I shouldn't be worried about getting jumped when I leave a game. Same thing goes here. The problem is a lot of people get genuinely angry at things and then genuinely aggro and that's not fun. So like I said in my previous post, if getting into fights with other people over these things is fun to you, you do you, I'll personally probably block you cause it's not enjoyable to me.

Imo the difference lies in self awareness. If you're a bit or even fully insane about your fav but you know that you are then it's generally all in good fun. But some people aren't aware that they are being irrational about things and that can get ugly because they take things seriously and get serious emotions about it and send serious hate about it etc. But it's not only bad for other people they might get aggressive towards. I've had anons here be genuinely distraught and/or enraged by the lack of performance at the moment. I've had to ask many a person "are you sure F1 is enjoyable to you?" because at the end of the day arguing can be fun (God knows I looove debating, irl and online, I'm annoying that way) but if you step away from these fanspaces angry, sad, frustrated most of the time, then is it really good for you? are you really having fun?

Hello! It's been some time!! Missed y'all, hope you missed me too!! I haven't been active but I have checked the tags sometime and am more active on Twitter (w my boo @carpediemm-18 💕🤌)

I am pretty sad to see most of my friends leave, and ik how much of a tough decision it must've been. The fandom has changed considerably and tbh, like most, I don't really care about the whole "relationship" and while i've been enjoying it like a really long Reality TV show/season, there are a few things I feel like talking about, which as a Desi and a Hindu, I was pretty sad to see v few people acknowledge.

First off, let me preface by saying that I feel sorry that her nudes leaked. Intentionally or accidentally, no one should have to go through that, at ANY point of their life, for ANY reason. My heart goes out to her for that, and I hope she has been able to recover from that.

But, I have seen so much discourse about her and her friends. Especially in the context of racism. When I first saw those pics, I was disappointed and hurt. Not because I expected any better from either party, but because in this day and age with a lot of exposure to global policies and discourse, being ignorant is a wilful choice.

I saw her picture with a bindi, and honestly, it seems like they were pretty openly mocking Hindu culture and customs. The bindi, the mudra, the sticking out of the tongue? Yeah, all VERY prevalent signs of mocking, or at the very least, emulating what they've seen in media; which again, is not a proper representation of what our culture is. I have seen people say that "oh, well, when people come to India, don't they dress up in traditional attire and click photos? If that isn't a problem, why is this?" That isn't a problem because you are in our country, learning our customs in person. We are welcoming you to our world of traditions in a proper way, which isn't cultural appropriation.

In addition to that, her friends were very openly saying vile, antisemitic and fatphobic things, not too long ago. You might argue, oh that was a long time ago, they were young, they might've changed and so on. And I agree, I would defo give them the benefit of the doubt in such a case. But most of these tweets are from like 2014/15/preeeetty recent if you think about it. I am close to her age, and even as someone who is not from The West, at that age and in that time, I knew that stuff like this is INHERENTLY wrong. Bear in mind, even if they were in their teens at the time, it's not like it was the early 2000s or something. In 2014, you should know better than to quote Ad*lf H*tler. Heck, even my 12 year old cousin doesn't do that, and he's a complete edgy teen extraordinaire.

I come from a place where colorism is still very much prevalent, and to see people from the West pick and choose what they "like" about Eastern philosophies is disappointing and quite frankly, disgusting. You can't claim to "follow Buddhist principles" and continue associating with such vile people. You don't even have to call them out, but you can distance yourself from them.

I haven't said anything about Chris because he's a grown-ass man and if at this point he continues associating w such people, he's a manchild dicko. But Alba has the chance to change, and she should think about getting better friends when she can. Breaking off a friendship in your 20s is MUCH easier than realising and regretting your mistakes in your 40s.

lol it's so bizarre to me. i think many just turned on him over how much they hated olivia, but kept their flame alive for when he broke up with her, and now they're mad again that he has dared go back with another woman. i'm even wondering if it's ZOT3 at this point because it's so clearly some harry styles stan who is capable of believing a million theories about this woman all at once while at the same time insisting they're just friends and it means nothing and it's not even her. just seems a lot.

i have to say on my own blog i really won't be responding to many asks about if they're PR or really together or whatever, i really feel like that discourse is too 2014 for us all. we are all way too passed that. anyone still dealing with that is just a harry styles fan who is jealous this man is still not dating them. but it always blows my mind that there are still these stans out there going absolutely feral whenever he dates a woman as if it's gonna impact their lives at all.

Read a few Stucky stories from 2014/2015 recently and two of them commented that Steve Rogers had a flat ass. These were different authors. I just thought that was super bizarre. At what point in the fandom were people talking about this? Compared to who? It just seems so bizarre. And the fact that two different authors mentioned it makes me wonder if there was some sort of discourse about it. Can you imagine making the argument in 2022 that Steve Rogers does not have a good ass?

the people who believe that Republicans/conservatives in general only started hating trans people and trying to make laws against us in the past few years are so fucking stupid.

the wave of bathroom bills was 7 years ago. fuckin the Reagan administration 40+ years ago worked with terfs to deny trans coverage from government health care after a short period of it being covered, and those rules weren't fully removed til extremely recently. and all in the middle there was a whole fucking lot of trans people not having rights just as all other LGBT groups didn't. because we're all the same to conservatives and most of the country actively hated all LGBT people for a long ass time.

fuckin, we got people acting like conservatives freaking out about drag and calling LGBT people pedophiles are "new" but accusing all LGBT people of being pedophiles goes back into the 50s (when this idea was frequently told to school children in 'public safety' films) and beyond. Complaining about drag queen storytime et al is so old it was a regular topic of hatred on right wing radio in the 90s.

like I really don't get these perceptions people have, that everything was solved in like 2014 and this shit only came back "recently". like half the damn country never had any legal rights for trans people, in fact had laws that explicitly allowed discrimination against trans people! like every state that's passed an anti-trans and/or anti-gay thing recently was already actively oppressing LGBT people the whole time beforehand. but I guess people just didn't care and didn't notice???

you'll see people act like, for example, allowing trans kids to play on school sports teams was totally normal and widely accepted. when for the most part, even in areas with a strong reputation for acceptance, that shit was fucking unheard of - which is horrible. I know people who tried to get on their right gender high school team for sports in high school like, in the early 2010s and they got fucking beaten for daring to ask for that!! like that was less than a decade ago. Where's the fucking perspective here?

and it'd be one thing if this was like, a discourse solely among 14 year olds who just figured out they're LGBT but this is shit getting published by people in their 30s who damn well should know better, to remember the virulent lgbtphobia of every trump official not to mention the whole Bush administration and anytime before then. And this is no claim that like Obama solved it mind, the Obama admin just typically was opposed.
