Fenton and Possible Family
Maddie Fenton and Ann Possible are very estranged sisters, so they barely talked before University, and after that, never again. While both meet Alicia, they always try to never meet each other or talk to each other. So while Maddie knew that Ann's daughter Kim was playing Hero, Ann had no idea about Maddie's children, that her son was a hero, or even knew about Ellie's exist.
Middletown
Kim just told her friends that the Phantom would come to the town to meet her father, talk about rocket science, and protect him for the U.N. for her new project. As if she couldn't protect her own father. Kim, look how happy Ron, Rufus, and even Monique seem to be. Kim:" Ron, we too are heroes; you don't have to be excited." Ron:" You don't understand it, while we are heroes. Phantom is like Team Go, Super heroes that fight massive monsters and similiar!" Rufus nodded his head at that. Showing a fighting move he saw on the TV Phantom doing. Monique:" And have you not seen his body? He is a pretty good-looking hero." As she showed Kim her wallpaper, like Tara and Bonnie, she too had the Hero as phone wallpaper. Yeah, Kim knows about it but doesn't get the hype. James seems to love talking to his bodyguard; the young man seems smart enough to understand and give his opinions on rocket science. And he one-shot Drakken (Drew) and Shego as they tried to kidnap him again. + At the Possible House, Danny was confused about how similar Ann looks to his mother. And that day, Ann learned her Nephew was a superhero, as he told them his full name "Danny Fenton" at the dinner. Ann called later her sister Alicia. Who told her she thought Ann knew about it? It's not like Maddie hides it; she just never talks about it, as she thinks everyone knows about it in the family! Kind of like Ellie. Ann didn't even know she had two nieces, she just knew about Ellie... Maybe they are too much estranged they are sisters after all. Alicia:" Yes you are! I told you that for years. I mean even Maddie knows about your family, but you don't. She won't visit as long you don't want to see her. And maybe you will help with the Vlad problem... " Ann:" Vlad? Is he someone she meet later?" Alicia:"When you meet you will get what I mean. Just being around him, you get it. "

Ready to rec some awesome fics that I read this month!! Feel free to add on with some of your own Bagginshield recs. 😁
March 2024 Rec List
G Rated:
A Home, A Pack, A Place of Love by Lucigoo89 (WIP, 4K, 2ch.)- You can't keep me away from puppy fics! Deciding to run away from home, Corgi Bilbo takes puppy Frodo and escapes into the streets which might not be that friendly to the small animals. The love between Frodo and Bilbo is already so adorable and we haven't even met any company members yet!
To Court a King by Porphyrios (Complete, 19K, 1ch.)- This fic has been recced a lot recently and it's totally worth it! Bilbo and Thorin have decided to court, only some are worried about the worthiness of such a match. I have reread this fic twice just this month alone.
T Rated:
Desperate Magic by BeautifulFiction (Complete, 5K, 1ch.)- This is one of those fics that is worth revisting again and again. On the brink of death, Bilbo sees it in himself to tend to Thorin's hair. It's such a unique kind of Everybody Lives fic, and I just get overwhelmed by the love in this story.
Frozen Heart by snowmissus (soul_of_blaze) (WIP, 7K, 3ch.)- When Danny first promoted this fic on tumblr I was 100% invested. Erebor is trapped in a forever winter and Bilbo is brought to see if he can help. I can't wait to see what all is in store for this fic because the setup is spectacular.
Golden Hearts Bleed Faster by LordOfTheRazzles (WIP, 3K, 1ch.)- I've been waiting for Razzy to release this fic. Bilbo Baggins is the Prince of the Shire and in need of a new bodyguard, Thorin. Bilbo is just so sassy and you can tell this is going to lead to some good antics between the duo.
There and Not Back Again (or, The Saving of Erebor) by femmbingley (WIP, 164K, 49ch.)- There's so much to say about this fic. Post-BOTFA dwarven politics where Bilbo has assumed the duties of the consort which makes things more difficult for Dain. I really love the characterizations and I just can't get enough of this fic!
M Rated:
A heart of stone and Fire in his soul by Lucigoo89 (Complete, 3K, 1ch.)- This fic is chock full of beautiful metaphors. Bilbo's introspection on his thoughts of Thorin during their first standoff with Azog. Honestly, this is one of my favorite Goo fics.
E Rated:
Kurdu 'abadaz by LordOfTheRazzles (WIP, 34K, 6ch.)- This is unlike any Post-BOTFA fic I've ever read. The magic of the Arkenstone brings Thorin back to life for a purpose: help the trapped souls of Erebor. There's such a touching scene between Thorin and his amad that has me in pieces over this fic!
Sleep Alone; Start All Over by vicious_summer (WIP, 56K, 3ch.)- I'm still thoroughly enjoying this fic so far. After an accident, Bilbo is the one who ends up losing about seven years worth of memories including the fact that he’s married to the King Under the Mountain. I’m just always so impressed with vicious_summer’s writing style as it has a more Book!Bilbo vibe.

This is a lot so feel free to pick only a few! 1-6, 9, 15, 16, 26, 30!, 34 and 41?
if you could reboot one TV show, which one would it be? Simon and Simon, but have someone who actually liked the original reboot it, not anyone related to Lenkov. But I wouldn't make it super serious, I would keep it campy as hell, and I would not write in a romantic interest for either brother by genderbending another canon character. Let Mrs. Simon have the romantic story arc, make AJ an Ace/Aro, and let Rick be his wild child self with no strings attached.
if you could have saved one TV show from cancellation, which one would it be? PRODIGAL SON, or Deception - ideally, both. And since they're by the same guy, I feel like I can name both and have it count as one. :-D Forever is another one which might be Fedak, but I don't think so, but it was another one that deserved another season, minimum.
have you ever quit a show before it finished? why? So many. So many. Mostly out of anger at how the story went, like I dropped The Good Doctor as soon as they killed Melendez because the writers' excuse was they wanted to hurt the audience and he was the favorite. Yeah, go fuck yourself with that attitude. I left Agents of SHIELD because I was so mad at Ward's story arc I was shouting at the TV. I left Supernatural because honestly, it lost a lost of traction after season 5 when the original showrunner left and they wound up ruining characters like Mary (I honestly left at the point when John was clearly the better parent - Mary should've stayed dead). I left NCIS when Tony and Ziva left (though I guess I'm technically back now, but less invested). I left Arrow because I wanted to reach through the screen and choke Felicity out every time she was on screen, and all the other 'supporting' characters sucked and were whiny little bitches. Others - like Bull - I just stopped watching and haven't missed it enough to go back. Lucifer is another weird one - loved season 1, liked season 2, hated season 3, LOVED AND ADORED seasons 4 and 5, and I dropped season 6 as soon as my least favorite trope was introduced - grown up child who time travels to meet parents who fucked up their lives by being absent. There are, however, two exceptions to this: I have not seen the last episode of either White Collar, or Burn Notice, and it's because I couldn't bear to say good bye to those characters (and I think I was in the process of leaving the Navy so I had no way to watch them and then never caught up) so they're all still "alive" still out having adventures.
are there any shows you wish could just be cancelled already? Literally any unscripted show. Pick one. Any one. The only other show that existed long enough for me to yell at it "JUST DIE ALREADY" was Agents of SHIELD, because ABC kept that dumpster fire and would dump other shows that were doing better because it was Marvel and Marvel was at the height of popularity - like Deception and Forever were two casualties of keeping the more expensive, lower rated AoS.
what’s your comfort show? I realize I just answered this in someone else's reply, but I'm adding Yellowstone. It is 100% a western soap opera, but drama that you can care about. The other part is that (minus the sociopathic part) my dad reminds me so much of John Dutton there are parts that shouldn't be funny, but I just about die laughing because it's Dad. Also, one of the few westerns written by a guy who is actually so successful at being a cowboy, he makes more money on horses and livestock than he does from TV. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD THAT IS?
which shows do you think are underrated and need more love? Blood & Treasure. I love all the characters, including the bad guys (as in they're well written bad guys, and still awful people). I love the romance between Lexi and Danny (and that's saying something) because they both have their strong suits, they know it, and they rub off on one another in the best ways - Lexi trying to be less of a criminal, and Danny learning to bend the rules. And it's the Mummy meets National Treasure. 9. what’s one show you thought you’d hate but turned out to really enjoy? Hmm. I don't know about hate but 'wasn't expecting to like it that much': Julie and the Phantoms and Cobra Kai on Netflix, and 9-1-1 on FOX. Specifically, I was thinking I was going to hate Buck, but now - I would kill for that human golden retriever. 15. do you feel like there are any overrated TV show formats? 'let's make everything dark enough that you can't see it unless you turn off every light in the house and block out the moon too but also a miserable enough story line that you wind up regretting watching the series the first place because instead of going for 'sensible' story lines we decided 'SURPRISE, MOTHERFUCKER' was in fact better story telling' 16. do you feel like there are any underrated TV show formats? Character driven story lines. I realize that I dislike a lot of murder mystery/crime drama because it's always more case based than the people, and if I wanted to watch something that's basically a news report, I would just watch the news. X-Files was a great one for character driven story, 9-1-1 is a good modern version, Yellowstone is a full on soap opera with cowboys... 26. See the answer to @authorangelita - Psych's "I Know You Know" is peak 30. what’s one show you could probably write a 2,000 word essay on, and what would be your topic? Haunting of Hill House and Why Everyone is Fucking Delusional Who Thinks Steve is the Embodiment of Denial When Shirley Crain Exists 34. what are your top 5 shows right now? Hmm. Good question...Yellowstone, The Rookie, NCIS Hawai'i, 9-1-1, aaaannd....I've been binge rewatching series, so probably Psych? 41. if you could change 1 detail about any show, what would you change and why? Higgins would be either be a dude, or 40 years older so 90% of the fandom wouldn't exist, and the Found Family Trope would reign supreme instead of 'white chick can't make up her goddamn mind on literally anything but let's call it Twue Wuv and push that narrative while creating characters we know the fandom will shout abuse at and threaten bodily harm to the actors playing them because it interferes with their Shipping Discourse and sacrifice every story line and character development on favor of mashing these two characters together to the point the actors playing them don't interact with the fans at all because they're so psychotic on social media'. Just saying.

This past week: a summary
1. The season 3 trailer dropped and boy, oh boy...the fandom’s a mess:
• It looks like the girls plan to print a shit-load of counterfeit cash and do one big run to wash it. Welp. That's going to go badly wrong...it's not like Beth is going to want to stop anytime soon.
• Beth's wardrobe continues to look better than last season. Especially those slightly oversized sweaters. And her hair continues to impress, which has been a controversial topic. It's definitely not as good as her season 1 hair but it looks like an improvement from season 2?
• Dean appears to call the girls out on their criminal activity.
• We get a shot of multiple guns (four in the image) laid out in a row, next to ammunition; this is followed by a shot of a black van pulling up with the doors opening and a man gagged and being held hostage presumably, but not necessarily, by the girls.
• Annie provides us with a much needed laugh and kidnaps Lucy’s bird! (”Class II with an animal.”)
• Beth appears to be in the midst of wrapping up furniture in the house. Home renovation time mayhaps?
• Beth sees a man rising from the picnic bench in her backyard. It appears to be one of Rio’s men, played by the actor Carlos Aviles, who last appeared in season 1. She’s holding a black bag, potentially containing washed cash?
• Ruby shows an image of her two children to an unseen person in a store with guitars and other random knick-knacks.
• We were provided with out first glimpse of Agent Turner, armed and surrounded by his FBI colleagues. It looks like there’s an ICE van in the background too.
• Beth and Dean share a kiss, while Beth wears the infamous floral shirt she wore while opening the envelope containing the Dubby returned to be her by Rio (2x07) and during the 20 questions game (2x11). Chaos is a ladder! Even while returning the kiss hesitantly, Rio’s presence looms over the scene.
• The girls enter a graveyard with spades. A little innocent grave-robbing never did any harm!
• Beth opens the door to a mysterious “guest”, while Dean stands in the foyer. “That’s the thing about this gig. Just when you think you’re finished, something new pops up.”
• The girls appear to be visting a grave or a memorial at the very end of the trailer, with Ruby commenting “He lost his life”, followed by Annie pouring her coffee on the “victim’s” grave. Could we see the end of Boomer this season? Or another despised character?
2. The first look at season 3 dropped yesterday!!!
• We got a glimpse of Rio in season 3 (the fandom is collectively 100% sure that this is a new shot). Looks like he's standing in Beth's bedroom, or at least her house. I mean, who else would he be looking at with that expression on his face?
Tumblr media
• The music featured in the season 3 first look remains a mystery.
• Charlyne Yi has amazing skin! Mae has amazing skin! Christina, Retta and Manny all have amazing skin! I'm so jelly right now over here with my drying lotion.
Tumblr media
3. The BTS of the promo shot in the money room was released. Retta acknowledged how difficult this hiatus has been for us! What a queen.
4. NBC universal interviews:
• Manny confirms that Rio is indeed alive (we didn't need the confirmation but it's just nice to hear him say it haha) and that Rio and Beth will be forced to work together this season.
• Reno and Matthew give relationship advice and continue to be adorable beans.
• Don't forget this welcome news from NBC universal a few weeks ago. Maybe we won't have to worry as much about ratings this season as we did last season before the show was renewed!
Tumblr media
5. Manny has had his own photoshoot to promote his character and the show. Eagerly awaiting the release of those pictures!
6. NBC released an official plot synopsis for 3x01 (”Find Your Beach”:
“Beth makes a new friend while struggling to process her guilt over Rio’s death. Meanwhile, the women perfect their latest business venture just as Agent Turner and his surprising informant complicate their plans to launch.”
7. The trailer and first episode of ‘The Influence of Good Girls’ dropped:
• Megan Thee Stallion reveals that her character’s name is Onyx, confirming that she works where Stan works; her character will be a “little rule-breaker. She’s doing things she has no business doing.”
• There will be two further episodes, one titled ‘The Crime King”, featuring Manny Montana, and the other titled “The Perfect Heist’.
8. The fandom continues to eagerly await carpool karaoke with Christina, Retta and Mae.
9. Retta and Reno have done a number of interviews promoting the show recently:
• A clip was featured in one of the interviews; Ruby appears unhappy with Stan’s long working hours at the strip club he now works at.
• The BUILD interviewer acknowledged Beth and Stan’s importance in Ruby’s life. Reno dropped a juicy piece and said that “as things go down”, the audience will get to see how Stan feels about Beth.
• According to Reno and Retta, the funniest person on set is Danny boy Jr, the actor who plays their son.
• Retta said that the girls are going to be a more cohesive unit this season, as they face outside threats.
10.The NBC Good Girls marketing team dropped a 43 minute long video compiled of the vast majority, but not every, car scene from the past two seasons.

mythic quest
Favorite character: POPPY. she is the best protagonist! she is too smart and too capable to live in mediocrity and she is simmering with rage about it. she is also deeply and incurably adorable. i cannot believe she is a character who exists.
Second favorite character: BRAD. these top two could have easily been switched though because they’re both extremely good. to allow danny pudi to play joel mchale a horrible bitch who loves money, openly doesn’t care about ethics, and watches predator/prey videos to relax himself... that is just a gift to the world
Least favorite character: david, just because he is the least interesting. but all the characters are so fun and dynamic. i don’t hate any of them
The character I’m most like: poppy 100%
Favorite pairing: the pathetic lesbians dana and rachel are fun
Least favorite pairing: THERE AREN’T ANY BABY :)
Favorite moment: the thing brad mouths to rachel at the end of the finale
Rating out of 10: 10! it is a perfect workplace comedy!

Further defining the relationship between the Doctor and Clara Oswald; Season 9 episode 1 & 2
Blargh.  I’ve been busy with work stuff and getting ready for some travel so it has been taking longer for me to sit down and actually get this going.  To make my life easier, I’ll try to work on smaller chucks of season 9.  Hopefully, this will prevent me from getting too involved in the post.
After the Doctor and Clara are reunited in the Last Christmas special (one of the more emotionally rewarding Christmas specials might I add) they are back to traveling together. Episode 1 starts with the Doctor doing a solo trip where he encounters the a young boy, Davros in a creepy handmine field.  Upon learning his name, the Doctor flees seeing that he shouldn’t help the creator of the Daleks himself!  And thus the tension builds as he hides while Davros’ snake servant goes in search of him.
Of course, Missy decides to catch the entire world’s attention and Clara is summoned to U.N.I.T headquarters and we get a badass scene of her riding her motorcycle to the Tower of London. The biggest shift in how she behaves is how she acts like the Doctor when talking with Kate and the others as they try to determine what is happening.  Clara throws out big picture ideas and almost automatically starts thinking of all of the possibilities that this could be.  She has always been a self-assured and intelligent person, but she commands authority now.
As Missy expects Clara appears with the U.N.I.T. and the two of them have a very tense conversation about the disappearance of the Doctor.  As Missy really wants to have the full attention of the Doctor, she will stop at nothing to rile up Clara and insult her including her hurtful words asking about if Danny is still dead.  Missy presents the Time Lord confession dial to Clara stating it is the equivalent of a will.  She makes it clear it is delivered to his closest friend of the eve of his final day.  Clara’s reaction here is her at her best trying to give nothing away to Missy.  Her concern is evident, yet she knows she can’t be riled by Missy and must remain calm both for her safety and the Doctor’s.
Tumblr media
Clara glances down at the dial, back at Missy, back at the dial before reaching for it before it zaps her.
Tumblr media
She has a look of complete shock as it hurts her.  Clara believes herself to be the Doctor’s closest friend.  She declared it to Danny when he was just another cyberman.  Yet, Clara is not a Time Lord.  To add insult to injury, Missy points out that Clara is like the puppy with the random couple.  This implies that Missy and the Doctor are like a married couple and Clara is just some dumb pet. I get that the Master/Missy isn’t supposed to be a nice or sympathetic character, but I really personally hate Missy.  She spends all of her time trying to state how intellectually advanced she is, how she has risen over feeble and dumb emotions yet it is 100% clear that she is extremely jealous of Clara and the Doctor’s relationship.  She set their relationship into motion, but she’s not a fan.  Missy and Clara have a very tense exchange as Clara implies that their relationship must be love and Missy is totally offended by the remark and can only retort back Time Lords are better than that.  Clara clearly hit a nerve, not like Missy will ever state the truth.
Missy wants to state that her level of friendship with the Doctor far exceeds any understanding that Clara may have, so thus, she can’t even begin to comprehend a 2000 or so year relationship.  Honestly, not matter how old the Master may be, I really think as a character he/she will never develop a deeper understanding of “humanity” as a concept that includes Time Lords and humans.
The 10th Doctor has stated that he’s observed people who have done more in 20 years than 80 years implying that time does not always equal wisdom or accomplishments.  He also stated he was just a young one at 90 implying as well that even though Time Lords live much longer, they clearly mature at a slower rate than humans or other species.
Being the overly analytical nerd that I am, let’s say a 90 year old Time Lord is like a 13 year old human.  It means that at 2000, the Doctor is like an ~ 289 year old human.  Therefore, Time Lords can be more mature and wiser than a standard human, but not as much as one would expect with a different rate of maturation.
Back to the whole Clara - Missy face off, Clara clearly isn’t buying this and provokes Missy by stating that she’s to believe that Missy is best friends with the Doctor and turned good.  Obviously, Missy takes immediate offense to the concept of being good and kills two of the U.N.I.T staff in the area.  Of course Missy threatens to kill the rest of the U.N.I.T people in the area, but is caught when Clara tells her to kill her next.  It shows that despite all of her bravado and her Time Lord intelligence, she can’t figure out where the Doctor is since she isn’t as close as Clara is.
Therefore, Clara wins by telling her to prove that she is serious.  She only needs to point at the plane above her to get her point across.  And with that, Missy has no choice but to obey.
Tumblr media
Oh sure, she tries to write it off as something easy and something that she couldn’t actually do anything bad with; yet at the end of the day Missy has to recognize she is out of her depth.
The framing then shifts where Clara is not the one seated and Missy is standing behind her since by her own admission, she can’t find where the Doctor is and Clara is the only person currently who can.
Tumblr media
This also gives Missy a chance to put a vortex manipulator on Clara while she is distracted, thus removing her from the assistance of anyone else.  I have to admit, if Missy is so smart, she should have figured out what it took Clara all of 10 seconds to put together - where is the Doctor having a crazy party.
As Clara ponders what will let them know he’s there, Missy states it will be a small anachronism.  Of course both are shocked as he enters playing guitar on a tank . . .
Tumblr media
The Doctor then tries to have some hilarious stand up a few hundred years too early and Clara cringes at his fish tank joke while Missy seems . . . not amused? befuddled?
Tumblr media
Clara then asks Missy what’s the matter with him.  She’s never seen him like this - and she has seen the 11th and 12th Doctor, so she got to compare to totally different personalities.
He immediately hears her and pulls his sunglasses down a bit to get a better look at Clara and Missy.
Tumblr media
Clara then wonders if he heard them and realizes that they are there.  Instead of verbally answering, he proceeds to play some of “Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison.  Of course based on their facial expressions both Missy and Clara think the song is about her and likely not the other.  However, Clara wins for having the more totally adorable smile.
Tumblr media
As he continues to play, the camera will quickly switch back to them for a moment where Clara beams, Missy then gets a side glance over at her before she stops smiling and is more serious looking.  The camera pans back to the Doctor and then back to a very flattered and happy looking Clara who only stops smiling with her teeth as he finishes playing as if she were caught on tape.
Tumblr media
Now the lyrics for “Pretty Woman” aren’t very deep or anything like that, but they are appropriate for the relationship between the Doctor and Clara. Pretty woman, walkin' down the street Pretty woman the kind I like to meet Pretty woman I don't believe you, you're not the truth No one could look as good as you, mercy
Pretty woman won't you pardon me Pretty woman I couldn't help but see Pretty woman that you look lovely as can be Are you lonely just like me
Pretty woman stop awhile Pretty woman talk awhile Pretty woman give your smile to me Pretty woman yeah, yeah, yeah Pretty woman look my way Pretty woman say you'll stay with me 'Cause I need you, I'll treat you right Come with me baby, be mine tonight
Pretty woman don't walk on by Pretty woman don't make me cry Pretty woman don't walk away, hey, OK If that's the way it must be, OK I guess I'll go on home, it's late There'll be tomorrow night, but wait What do I see? Is she walkin' back to me? Yeah, she's walkin' back to me Oh, oh, pretty woman.
The Doctor is always lonely - the Doctor travels through time and space yet can never have a friend able to keep traveling with him.  Therefore, these lyrics really fit both of them at the beginning of season 9, the only person they have is each other.
Clara runs down to ground level while Missy continues to watch from above.  The Doctor has to visually look at Missy before she will even come down while Clara was already there waiting for him.  She then comes up to him and asks how he knew she was there.
Tumblr media
Clara:  Did you see me?
Doctor: When do I not see you?
Clara: What, one face in all of that crowd?
Doctor: There was a crowd too?
Clara: Wow, we’re doing charm as well now, are we? [laughs] Which one of us is dying?
Tumblr media
As she states he’s “doing charm” it means she is impress with how he’s grown as a person and is trying to impress her.  Of course it totally works, she’s beaming at him here as she smiles, though obviously concerned.
After some nervous glances between the two of them, he then hugs her.  She’s thoroughly overwhelmed as the Doctor has initiated a hug between the two of them.
Tumblr media
Clara can’t keep up with these changes.  This all makes sense.  Clara, like the 12th Doctor uses her quick wit and sarcasm to deflect when she’s not sure what is happening.  She’s clearly concerned based on her facial expression, but she has to be strong for him since his hugging means he’s worried.
And we get that worry as the camera finally shows his face as he tells her it is a great way to hide your face.
Tumblr media
When they finally break from the hug, she’s able to guess that he’s throwing a party, but this was not the type of party she was expecting.  The lighting in this scene is telling, his light eyes dart back and forth and when she pulls away we see shadows under Clara’s eyes.  She knows this is not the Doctor and he deflects her by stating he’s been many men and all of him is invited to this party.  12 may have come a long way with his emotions, but at a time like this he really still doesn’t know what to do.  He also has to deal with Missy as he then introduces her as the wicket stepmother.  He also uses this transition to place himself directly between Clara and Missy.
It is quite clear that he’s protecting Clara since he already realizes that Missy brought her there and he can’t trust Missy with Clara alone.
Tumblr media
There is a bit of chit chat and eventually Colony Sarff, Davros’ snake errand boy shows up and confronts the Doctor.  He states he followed his friends to the location and asks for the Doctor to come see a dying Davros.
The sonic screwdriver is thrown down before him and he looks ashamed and can’t say anything only able to reply to Clara’s comment that it used to be his sonic.
Not surprisingly, Missy has to ask what the Doctor’s facial expression is.  I waffle on if this implies that Missy knows exactly what that facial expression is and only says that so that Clara states that he’s ashamed.  This is him feeling ashamed for some sort of action.
Tumblr media
Clara looks on with great concern as she asks him what he’s done.  That then leads to the rest of the flashback explaining what happened at the beginning of the episode.  Upon learning that the boy’s name is Davros, the Doctor freezes and is unsure what to do.  As the fog rolls in, he uses that as a chance to escape as the fog obscures the TARDIS, yet the tell tale sign sound of it departing before returning to the current events implies that the Doctor abandoned a young Davros.
The Doctor agrees to go and says the lamest good-bye to Clara ever as he just turns to her before turning his back to snake errand boy.  In true Clara fashion she barely even glances at Missy before she springs into action stating that they will come with him.
And with that, the trio are transported to the ship as they travel to where ever Davros is.
While waiting to meet Davros, the Doctor reveals that he’s the creator of the Daleks (a surprising thing for Clara to not know seeing that she knows tons about the Doctor) and that the bigger question is “Who created Davros?” as an almost rhetorical question.
As Colony Sarff comes to take the Doctor away, he and Clara have a very awkward conversation.  She immediately calls him out on giving the confession dial to Missy.  Therefore, the Doctor knew she was not dead and he had someway to reach her - though she was unable to find him without Clara.  This clearly does not sit well with Clara.  She’s the one who is supposed to be able to lie, not the Doctor to her, Clara.  Their facial expressions are so strained, he’s trying his best to look calm and looks so sad as he hid things from Clara while she tries so hard to look tough.
The tension between them is so palpable you can almost taste it.  Clara is off her game, he ran off to 1138, had a crazy party, made it so that Missy and Clara would have to find him, he tried to coldly say good-bye and how she’s stuck in a holding room with Missy who keeps trying to kill her.
When Missy and Clara get captured escaping from the room and the Doctor sees her trapped in the room with the TARDIS, he begs Davros not to hurt her.
Tumblr media
There is then a discussion between Davros and the Doctor about how compassion was his weakness and he asks himself why he let him live when he stumbled upon him as a boy in his present time. The Doctor looks quite distraught as the Daleks wait for Clara to run before zapping her, the TARDIS is “destroyed” and the episode then ends with the Doctor deciding to save Davros to save his friend. I would say this scene is a complete parallel to the 9th Doctor and Rose when they were on satellite 5.  It appears that Rose was killed by the laser beam, instead she was transported to the Dalek command.  This is the exact same thing, I’m sure the Doctor knows that Missy would have messed with the vortex manipulators, the big question is if she only made it that hers would transport her elsewhere while Clara ends up dead.
Already this meta has gotten out of hand and I haven’t even gotten to episode 2.
The second episode makes it very clear that indeed the Doctor knows that they are fine (again as long as Missy didn’t kill Clara on purpose).  With Clara hanging upside from the rope (where did Missy get the rope? and the stick?) Missy makes Clara take her “Doctor intelligence test” to determine if she should keep or alive or not.  Of course Clara, knowing the Doctor so well, is able to determine not only why Missy wasn’t dead in the first place, meaning the Doctor knows that they are still alive and that the Doctor always assumes that no matter what, he’ll win.
Missy seems to need some convincing as to if the Doctor is actually thinking that, which Clara simply states, he’s expecting them to pick up the slack for him.  Therefore, they should assume that they will win.  All of this must annoy Missy on several levels since she wants the Doctor’s attention but has to deal with the puny and pitiful Clara.
Since the Doctor and Clara are separated, I’ll only briefly [try to briefly] get though parts of the episode.
The Doctor is upset and steals Davros’ Dalek chair and a laser as he messes with the Daleks.  They point out that he does not use violence, confident that he will not actually fire a weapon at them.  They do seem to forget that the 10th Doctor clone did commit Dalek genocide, but for some odd reason that doesn’t count. . . .
Tumblr media
However, Clara is involved and this is clearly foreshadowing to how far he will take things for Clara.  Really, the Doctor has two great enemies, the Daleks with Davros and the Time Lords, well the Time Lord establishment that is.
Meanwhile, Clara and Missy are stuck in the Dalek sewers as Missy really defines how she really can’t work with anyone despite her opinion that she is a great friend of the Doctor.  Clara is 100% correct that they are not a team and the entire time it is like the worst Time Lord - human team, with the Doctor and Clara making the “best” Time Lord - human team.  I digress.
The Doctor then gives his demand to the Daleks, that he wants Clara Oswald returned unharmed and alive and he even makes sure it is broadcast through the whole city so Clara and Missy can hear it as well.  Missy comments on it while Clara only listens.  Clara clearly is trying to understand what it all means.  What is interesting is that Missy states this is the Doctor without hope . . . upon saying that Clara only shifts to look at Missy in shock.
Tumblr media
Does Clara think he’s actually without hope?  She does look like she’s holding back tears, but she is unusually silent and instead Missy keeps commenting.  With Danny’s death Clara was talking non-stop when she was upset.  Now, she’s oddly silent.
To be able to infiltrate the Daleks, Missy makes sure to stick Clara in a Dalek casing, which has the added benefit that, she can no longer say her name . . . this is a bit of an odd thing since when Clara’s part of her self that had been scattered through the Doctor’s timeline was her Oswin Oswald, who was a fully transformed Dalek and could still say her name.  I think you wrote yourself into a little contradiction there Steven Moffat. . . not like your whole weeping angels issue between “Blink” and when Amy and Rory get stuck in 1880 something.  Sorry dude, your writing is not the most consistent.
The point is, everything that Missy does, is to use Clara to her advantage while still keeping her expendable and Clara just had to roll with it. . . . the whole thing highlights how her relationship with the Doctor is so much more equal even though there are times Clara will act as bait to assist the Doctor.
A huge portion of this episode is dedicated to philosophical discussions between the Doctor and Davros as Missy tries to use her negotiating skills with the Supreme Dalek.  I’m personally surprised that they can’t figure out that Clara is in the one Dalek shell, it is one hell of an assumption to make after the Doctor stole Davros’ chair.
The Doctor being himself, knows that Davros will likely try to take advantage of his compassion, a constant theme these two episodes but damn well knows he’ll also wake up the zombie Daleks.
Missy runs into wake up the passed out Doctor and has procured the Dalek laser.  The Doctor immediately asks where Clara is and if she is fine, while Missy is upset he’s not asking about her at all.  Of course he gets the last laugh and runs out with his confession dial and runs into Clara.  He stops as the Clara Dalek says “Doctor.” and he tries to tell her to run.  The framing of this shot is good, we see Clara at the end of the hall and then it switches to a view behind Clara looking at the Doctor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a classic “reunion” style shot as two characters approach each other after being separated.   The issue is that the Doctor thinks it is a regular Dalek and the weird Dalek programming won’t let her explain things clearly (really seriously, this plot inconstancy is bothering me, Clara should be able to override the Dalek programming since she already has done it).
Missy confirms that it is Clara and then tries to convince the Doctor to kill the Dalek as it is the one that killed Clara.  All of her cries that she is his friend and that she would never hurt him eventually result in the the Dalek saying “mercy” which is enough to get the Doctor to step back a second and realize that something is off with this Dalek (as well as Missy’s insistence to kill it).  Upon realizing that it is Clara, he lowers the laser and tells her to open the casing and helps her figure out how to open it.
He is at a loss for words as he sees Clara as tears run down her cheeks.
Tumblr media
She’s trapped inside and he reaches his hands out to hold her face as she cries and really, we don’t get a great look at his face as it is shaded most of the time.
What is clear is he feels terrible about everything and to steal an oft used phrase from the 10th Doctor, he states that he is “I am so sorry.”  Since the 12th Doctor is much less social and has only had one companion so far, Clara, the guilt he must feel this time has to be immense.
Tumblr media
It is clear that when he tells Missy to run, it is a threat that if Missy doesn’t leave him and Clara alone, there likely will be consequences.
The action then skips back to them returning to where the TARDIS was.  They return to the location and Clara looks perplexed why they were not shot when the Doctor reveals the TARDIS is fine and with that statement Clara is beaming and smiling as he explains things to the Daleks.
This is clearly and expression of deep love and appreciation for the Doctor here.
Tumblr media
And back to form, now with Clara, he can show off as he looks back at her softly with that spirit in his eyes.
Tumblr media
He has his Clara Oswald back safe and sound.  He knows what he needs to do.  With that he puts his sonic sunglasses on with more bravado than necessary (since it is all for Clara) and we get a repeat of how she looked when he had the invisible watch and was playing around with her.  The two of them look like two idiots who can’t get enough of each other.  What seals the deal is when the Daleks ask what is happening.
The Doctor’s reply.
Oh same old, same old.  Just the Doctor and Clara in the TARDIS. [Clara giggles]
As they escape it is just the regular old Doctor and Clara looking at each other, smiling, beaming at each other.  The two of them are 100% into each other and the fact that he makes it sound like they’ve been at this forever and will be at it forever shows how different 12 is compared to some of the other Doctors. He’ll do anything to hold onto Clara.  This really is the normalization of the two of them as an inseparable duo.
As they watch the Dalek city on Skaro succumb to the zombie Daleks, she asks if she’ll get to know what is on the confession dial, but she damn well knows he’s not going to tell her.
Tumblr media
As he discusses the ability of Clara to get the Dalek to say “mercy” he ponders how it would be left in their programming so to speak.
Realizing that it was the Doctor saving young Davros (and giving him his sonic) that it was himself who then allowed himself to save Clara.  He sprints off to the TARDIS and rescues Davros and only tells him that mercy matters, and likely based on Missy’s behavior, he tells him that friends and enemies likely doesn’t matter but that mercy does.
The first two episodes of season 9 serve a purpose both to shadow what will happen at the end of the season as well as show how far the Doctor will go to make sure that Clara is safe and sound.  His love for Clara is almost extreme compared to his love for others that he has traveled with before.
I found their reunion at bit flat, when they reunited during the “Last Christmas” episode, it felt much more of a connection between the two of them.  Instead, we the viewers barely get anything, we don’t even get to see him pull her out or hug her.  Did they think this would be too much too early?
Overall, they do set up the depth between Clara and the Doctor and really highlight how much they love and care about each other while Missy acts as a foil to both of them wanting to have the Doctor’s full attention, yet never able to do so.  It seems like episode 1 did a better job of connecting Clara and the Doctor, while episode 2 fell flat for sure and just didn’t seem sincere enough even though there were dramatic events.
It went from the Doctor almost shooting Clara to them back to normal as the TARDIS materializes around them and no discussion of this afterwards.  Clara was unusually silent as well in the episode, it just felt off.  By this point, they should have had a long detailed conversation about what happened, but no, he hops back into the TARDIS, saves young Davros and the episode ends.

Survivor 40: Premiere
Tumblr media
[A] Winners at War! The best of the best! The greatest of the greats! ...I will still have moments of "I don't remember that person..."
[A] I've been reading a lot of the pre-premiere media and there are two things I'd like to share: (1) Most people are upset that Cochran isn't included. He didn't want to come back; didn't think he'd do well and also doesn't want his last Survivor memory to be having his torch snuffed. I get it, but he will be missed. (2) Whatever the fuck "fire tokens" are, they sound stupid and unnecessary.
[S] I hate most of these people but there are a few I don't mind rooting for. Rob. Amber. Ben. [A] I'm going to have a hard time finding someone to root for. Ethan/Yul are good old school players. Rob is always easy to like. But the list I hate is long: Tony, Sarah, Nick, Tyson, Natalie, Parvati "Phoenix rising from the ashes ready to burn down your house" Shallow…
[S] Parvati and Ethan are basically polar opposites.
[S] Sandra, did you tell Rob you were coming back?
[A] Why separate them by gender on the boats? It's unnecessary. They are all previous winners. Thank god they aren’t playing men vs. women.
[S] I definitely don't remember some of these people.  Who the fuck is Adam? Denise? [A] Adam was recent and boring. He was the millennials winner IIRC. I don't remember Denise. Who the hell is Sophie?
[S] Wonder who Amber and Rob would give their tokens to? [A] I momentarily forgot about Amber being here. THE DRAMA.
[A] They're going to target Rob and Amber off the bat and I hate it. They are good characters and I want them around at least to the merge.
[A] I feel like the red team has 2-3 people who are going to eat these lesser-knowns alive.
[A] Such good acting by all of them because they knew the $2 million prize when they signed their contracts...
[S] Seriously. Fuck letting people who are voted out come back. [A] Part of my pre-read is that the players wouldn't agree to come back without something like Edge of Extinction existing. They didn't want to come back and have it be one and done. It wasn't worth their time.
[S] The immunity trophy is pretty badass. [A] Props to the prop department - that trophy is awesome.
Tumblr media
[A] I thought they stopped these types of challenges because of too many injuries. Guess everything goes out the window when it's all winners.
[S] LOL that wave almost made Jeff fall over.
[S] Me: I hope Natalie goes home first. Me ten seconds later: I hope Sarah goes home first. [A] Both of these are valid go homes first. Also Tony.
[S] Such terrible strategy. Fastest swimmer gets the lifesaver, throws it to teammate who stayed at pole.
[S] Conflicted Amber.
[S] Denise lost her tribe this challenge. Why did she let go of the ring?
[S] Surely these players don't need flint for fire. [A] I'm betting there are still some who can't even make fire WITH flint. Luckily, they can currently rely on a tribemate to get them fire.
[S] As opposed to all of the other gimmicks, I like the tokens.
[S] The crying has already started… [A] Tyson was not the person I expected to cry first and be all sentimental about family.
[A] Sandra, you have a target on your back regardless of the nickname "queen."
[S] Seeing Ethan reminds me how great a season Africa was. [A] Ethan played when I was graduating high school/starting college. Shit. Also, yes, Africa was an amazing season. No idols, no hidden immunities, no chances to get back in the game. Pure outwit, outplay, outlast.
[A] I want an older winner to win. I want them to adapt and prove that the older players are still a threat.
[S] So the people I completely forgot teamed up to be the most forgettable duo of season 40. Makes sense.
[A] Truth: why make the rookie move and go off at the start? Idiots.
[A] LMAO. Cuts to Tony talking about how it's taking everything for him not to go off on his own and look.
[S] That's adorable crying, Amber. They're a great couple.
[A] The idea of Wendell and Yul being in an alliance together is hilarious to me and I don't know why.
[A] Oh god, no. Not Rob and Parvati. Please no. [S] Rob! Don't make a deal with the devil!
Tumblr media
[A] Rob: "I don't think we should let the new school people dictate how the game goes." Yes. This.
[A] Who's Danni? [S] Yeah I don't know who Danni is either.
[S] You found yourself around all those winners by winning, Ben. [A] Ben is an adorable fanboy.
[S] "We are playing Survivor for ten people." LOL. I love Rob.
[A] I anticipate the dreaded tribal whispering since they didn't seem to make a decision prior to tribal. I look forward to Ethan's facial reactions to how tribal has evolved into an even bigger shit show.
[S] FUCK TRIBAL WHISPERING!
[S] All the talk but I still bet it's Rob.
[A] Question: when they bequeath their fire tokens to someone still in the game, is it public knowledge or secretly slipped into their bag? Because at this rate, you know Adam-Denise will bequeath to each other and Natalie-Jeremy will bequeath to each other.
[A] Who's Michelle?
[A] Jeff: "If anyone has a hidden immunity idol.." Ethan: *tenses up so tightly*
[S] NOT SAD ABOUT THAT! Next is Sarah please. [A] Not sad about that vote at all. She is going to struggle on Extinction.
[S] LOL both twins got voted out first.
[A] Here is my shocked face that she gave her token to Jeremy. Also just proves that they were smart to separate them.
-----
[S] Aight, Sandra has got to go. [A] Agreed. Sandra is scheming.
[A] The fact that Sandra-Sarah-Tony are all chummy is disturbing.
[A] Answer: Okay, looks like they just slip the tokens into your bag. Interesting.
[S] Can you give your token to someone or do you HAVE to wait until you are voted out? [A] I wondered the same thing - like can you and someone else in the game combine your tokens to get something?
[A] This season has too many twists. Seriously. Natalie can sell an idol to someone to get tokens?
[A] Rob is a goddamn workhorse in this challenge. Jesus.
[S] They are gonna vote out the guy who literally carried them on his back… [A] LITERALLY. [S] Oh, nevermind. Jeremy decided he didn't want to lose.
[A] I like the names Tony and Sandra being thrown out, but I fear for Amber. I also fear for anyone involved in the Amber vote because Rob will be out for blood.
[A] "Are we crazy not to get Sandra out first?" Yes. 100% yes.
Tumblr media
[S] You sold it to SANDRA? [A] OH YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME SHE SOLD IT TO SANDRA?!
[A] What happens if they refuse the deal? Would they get to pick a new person or is it just a fail and they move on?
[S] Also, why the fuck are all these people believing Sandra?
[S] Amber going, I'll never forgive Sandra. Neither will Rob. [A] Poor Amber.
[S] How the fuck did they all get so played by Sandra? No one on that tribe deserves to win this season. [A] Remember when I said red has "2-3 people who are going to eat these lesser-knowns alive?" This is the start of that.

Bits with bb Danny
Collection: Tim and Annie
Year: 1966
Characters: Timothy Turner, Annette Thompson, Daniel Turner
Content Warnings: mentions of abuse
Rating: K+
Style: chat fic
Summary: little bits discussing bb Danny’s personality and some odds and ends that never really fit into the narrative.
After Daniel is born, when she takes him to Poplar the first time, she and Tim can barely walk around the corner without people stopping them to see the baby. They get back home with even more baby things. And so much food. Because the women in Poplar know Annette's really not going to want to be cooking when she could be cuddling the baby. Or sleeping.
Cuddling or sleeping are 100% her priorities, and they're all a little sceptical of Tim's cooking. Like, he's a good boy and it's nice of him to help her and his Patrick is a good man, but ... here some food, just in case. SO many people want to see the little one, admire his strong little hands and dark hair and his big, big lungs.
Cuddles are 100% her favorite. Daniel is rarely in his bassinet during the day. She wonders if she's spoiling him, she remembers a few things from when her sisters were really little and from helping out in the church nursery. Shelagh tells her it's utter bull. Cuddling her baby isn't going to spoil him, if babies weren't meant to be cuddled why do they fit so perfectly in their mother's arms?
Everyone knows Shelagh has probably taught him how to cook, and Patrick has to know how to at least well enough to keep them both alive after his first wife died. Tim is only mildly offended. But everyone in Poplar knows him, and knows that he's bound to get as distracted as his father and forget to make food. And why should Annette and little Daniel suffer his scatterbrained-ness?
Forget to cook, or cook and forget to eat, and forget to sew his buttons on (although Tim is good at that; he and Shelagh did it together, when Tim was missing him on particularly busy weeks) and Daniel and Annette need more consistency than that!
Annette gets a little teary at that, and cuddles him even closer against her chest, although she does try to make sure she puts him down at night so he'll sleep without being held. But during the day he's with her almost always, in her arms or in her lap. Her little one is for her to cherish and to love and to show how to love, too. She loves watching Tim hold him, too, in a way she tries not to think too closely about. He talks to Daniel, voice warm and soft and lilting but always proper words, sometimes even his medical notes, the way he's picked up the sway mother's have, the bounce in his step when Daniel is fussy, how soft and tender his expression goes.
Annette tries so hard not to think about the feeling in her chest when she watches Tim and Daniel.
Daniel is suuuuuch a mama's boy. He gets used to other people holding him and fussing with him. But he'll get in moods where he only wants his mummy. Or Tim. Tim is the exception. And he lets anyone hold him as long as he can see Annette. The minute Annette is out of his sight, he starts whining. Tim is the exception here too.
Anyone can hold him as long as he can see Annette. If he can't, there will be SHENANIGANS. Except Tim, he's okay as long as Tim's there too, although as he gets older he demands to go to Tim more often and will sometimes lean away from Annette and ask for Tim. Annette doesn't mind, she's like "same baby."
Oh GOD my heart. Annette sits in the kitchen and lets herself cry a little bit. Seeing Tim with Daniel on his chest felt so amazing and so right and felt so much more than it should. She doesn't feel like she deserves to feel this way, doesn't deserve to be falling (or already be honestly) in love with Tim. She turned down his marriage proposal. She tells herself that she should try distancing herself from him, maybe distance Daniel. Because then he could maybe have a shot at finding someone who'd not turn him down. She can't see how absolutely in love with her he is.
I think Kenneth fucked with her in a lot of ways, not just the possessive nature and the refusing to acknowledge the baby. But like, telling her that he was the best she'd be able to get, that no one but him would even think about being with her. And he's only with her because she puts out. Shit like that.
Tim is so in love with her it's a little painful. Patrick even talked to him about being careful about his boundaries, that it's okay if he needs to protect himself, too. But Annette can only see how much he's already done for her, the sacrifices he's made, and is well aware of his sense of fairness and of duty, that he proposed and she already turned him down but he might go along with it, anyway. (God, distancing Daniel from him would break his heart)
Oh he was definitely undermining her confidence the whole time, and all of that was *before* she got pregnant. That she was stupid and silly and childish and she was lucky he would tolerate her/lucky he didn't hit her more often, and no-one else could ever want her.
Patrick knows that it's already way past that point when he talks to him about boundaries too. He sees that his son is so in love with Annette. And no amount of setting boundaries now will change that. He just doesn't want to see Tim hurt, if some other man comes along. But Shelagh says that won't happen. She sees how they look at each other when they don't think anyone is watching them.
It's as much about making sure Annette isn't uncomfortable, either. You can't help who or how much you love, but you can be careful about expressing that to try and not make people uncomfortable - Patrick has intimate experience in that area. And he wants Tim to be prepared, if she does find someone, and that his relationship with Daniel might change too. Not that remaining close to them is a bad thing; sometimes the pain is worth it. Just... be careful. Shelagh can see they both love each other so, so much, and can understand why both of them are hesitant, and she doesn't think that's necessarily a bad thing so long as they get there in the end.

thought:::Danny's first halloween.....he's dressed as a little teddy bear
oh GOSH Halloween isn't much of a thing yet in the UK but Annie and Tim can't resist, he's so CUTE and everyone else agrees, Annie sews him the little outfit
Any excuse to dress the baby up is taken. He's still so tiny for his first Halloween and it's just adorable. Annie makes the most of the sewing skills she learned at Violet's shop to make him all sorts of little outfits.

My opinion (that no one asked for) on the game Dream Daddy
Disclaimer; so far, I’ve only seen the Craig ending, and the Robert ending, I’ve seen two dates with Damien and Mat, one with Brian, and that is literally it. I have not finished the game yet, so this is my opinion about what I have seen. Please refrain from giving me, or others, spoilers.
Dream Daddy caught my eye while I was scrolling through videos on Jacksepticeye’s YouTube channel. I had no idea what it was about, but the thumbnail definitely made me curious. I didn’t have anything better to do, and I hadn’t watched Sean (Jack’s real name, for those of you who don’t know) all like that as of recent. Not to mention I had been looking for a new fandom, and the art style, as demonstrated in the thumbnail of the video, drew me in. I had no clue what I was getting myself into.
Immediately, I was hooked. Like, as soon as Sean decided to pretend to be dead, I knew this game was gonna be for me. As soon as I saw Amanda, I had no doubt in my mind that this was going to be a great game.
The ‘Build That Dad’ section of the game, though arguably not all that important, caught my eye. There were so many pop culture references, from the Goku hair to the shonen eyes, the Danny Sex Bang outfit, it was all just so...unique.The body types caught my attention the most because there was a section in the body types that has tank tops that went down just a little higher than a crop top. I did a double take. No, not a tank top. That was a binder. A chest binder used for FtM transguys.
At this point, I knew what the premise of the game was, since Sean had explained it, but this was just the cherry on top of the awesome fudge sundae. There was finally transgender inclusion in a popular queer video game. The best part? It treated the fact that the character could be a transguy so casually. No one ever brings it up that he’s trans, the game doesn’t shove some sort of backstory about who the character was before he transitioned. It was a glossed over fact, but it was glossed over because no one cared, they all accepted the main character no matter if he was wearing a tank top, or a chest binder. They didn’t treat him as any less of a man.
The fact that you could choose if Amanda’s other parent was a man or a woman was so powerful to me. The game wasn’t like ‘this is a gay dating simulator so that means the other parent has to be a dad’, it allowed you to make the main character bisexual. Amanda was wearing the jacket her mom/other dad was wearing in the photo, too, which was sad, but so cute. The jacket was so gender neutral looking that it didn’t look out of place on Amanda, her mom, or her other dad. It fit into the universe and it added to Amanda’s character.
Mat didn’t leave a very strong first impression on me, which I was fine with, because I decided that if Sean didn’t choose Mat as his dream daddy, there’d be other YouTubers who would find his path appealing. Craig, however, left a very lasting first impression. As the main character reminisced a memory with Amanda of Craig being a mess and drinking a jar of marinara sauce back in college, I felt like I could relate to Craig (despite the fact that he wasn’t like that anymore and I am by no means an athlete like him, in fact, I’m still a mess).
Robert. Oooooh, boy, where do I begin with Robert? Well, my initial thought was “Oh, look, a bad boy who’s quiet. I bet he’ll turn into the sensitive, misunderstood character later on”. While that was true, it happened in a way I didn’t expect. Robert took me through hoops, twists, turns. and I could never tell the difference between him joking, and him being serious. Really, though, is his dad sick, or nah??? He was the quiet badass turned into a sensitive character, but it happened so naturally, he never felt unreal, or melodramatic. I actually cared about his issues, enjoyed his humor, and I found it adorable when he thanked everyone who had a part in the making of that film in the date with him. He felt believeable, and he wasn’t 100% “Oh, look at me, I’m the token edgy character”.
The game approaches school life, alcohol addiction, and other serious topics in a realistic way. Everything that this game accomplishes is amazing. I fell in love with the characters, and it approached every situation realistically. The queer characters weren’t over the top stereotypically gay. I would personally rate the game, from what I’ve seen so far, a solid 9/10.

FLIX: STAN & OLLIE
By Alyn Darnay
Tumblr media
Over the years the entertainment industry has given birth to some very beguilingly comedy duos. I'm sure you know some of them; they crop up every decade. Some disappear as quickly as they arrived, others leave behind them a vague memory, but a few brilliant ones leave behind an enduring legacy.
Unless you've lived under a rock somewhere, you'll know instantly when the "coo coo" music theme begins, you're about to laugh at the misadventures of the little thin guy with perfect timing who constantly messes things up for the long suffering big hulking guy. The team of Laurel and Hardy were quite simply magical. Through over 100 films the on-screen relationship of these two beloved buffoons have brought audiences huge laughter and melted hearts with their innate pathos.
What no one ever saw though were the actual behind the scenes lives of the duo. The relationship that made up the hard work and long hours it took to make their antics look natural and hilarious. This sweet, gentle true tale about them successfully addresses that relationship, not at the height of their fame, but rather at the end of it, and it's drawn to perfection by the inspired performances of Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly.
Here's the storyline…
In 1953, Laurel (Coogan) and Hardy (Reilly) facing a fading future and problems of age and money are convinced to reconnect with their fans and entice a producer to make a new film, by touring variety halls in Britain. After a scary slow start, the show becomes a huge hit, however buried tensions threaten to destroy their life-long relationship.
With the support of their wives Lucille (Henderson) and Ida (Arianda), who aren't particularly fond of each other, the boys re-discover their love of performing, as well as for each other, eventually securing their place in the hearts of an adoring public.
Director Jon S. Baird succeeded here in creating as genial and touching a portrait of these legendary comics as is humanly possible. My hat's off to him, he should be recognized for this work. However, as good as Baird is on this film, it pales in comparison to the amazing spot-on performances by Coogan and Reilly. Their seamless performances never for a moment betrayed the monumental effort it must have taken to bring their characters to totally believable life. The two actors weren't there, Stan and Ollie were. That's brilliance.
Add to that some big laughs and some very touching moments and you have a very entertaining film that anyone can enjoy.
My take… this is a wonderful film filled with humor, joy, triumph, pain, and the glory of friendship. It deserves to be seen and enjoyed. Don't miss it.
Directed by: Jon S. Baird

so i’m catching up on doctor who, after ditching the show at the end of s7 because i just couldn’t stand moffat’s bullshit anymore
i return to it with no less patience for his bullshit, but caring less makes me less angry about it, which is nice
and so, here is my doctor who series 8 review.
rating: 💜💜💜🖤🖤
I like clara and I like capaldi’s doctor and I hate most of the writing
the last four episodes are marginally better and just barely managed to drag the rating up to 3/5 instead of 2/5
here are some episode reviews if you care or if you just like hearing me complain (it is mostly complaining so don’t bother reading if that’s going to bother you) (no seriously don’t)
they are minorly spoilery but mostly just vague
episode 1: deep breath
rating: 💜💜🖤🖤🖤
the restaurant scene was the best part and the only scene really worth a shoutout. well built up to, suspense was grand. everything else was bland or confusing.
capaldi’s a fun doctor. clara is a good companion. the veil scene with clara and vastra was okay. the boyfriend thing was a little tiring since that whole gimmick always seems to have been based off moffat’s perception of all women finding the doctor attractive on some level, but sure.
jenny and vastra continue to be delightful half the time and treated as if power imbalance in a relationship is a mere quirk and not serious concern the other half of the time (bonus points for this treatment in a wlw relationship). strax’s quirks have long worn thin.
i already hate how “crazy” missy is. took two seconds. nice.
episode 2: into the dalek
rating: 💜💜💜🖤🖤
very entertaining premise. execution was acceptable. the twist at the ending does a good job of setting up for the doctor’s personal struggle of the season. however, I find that personal struggle very boring. lots of creativity was put into the structure of the dalek, very fun.
cold open was very confusing.
also already getting the impression that this series is going to gloss over the very real problems veterans have. when will people learn you can want to improve life for veterans while condemning the battles that forged them.
might recommend.
episode 3: robot of sherwood
rating: 💜💜🖤🖤🖤
clara looked fantastic in that dress. the doctor’s pissing contest with robin hood was hilarious. the arrow shooting at the end was adorable.
entertaining, boppy. no real negatives, but no real positives either. kind of a snoozefest.
episode 4: listen
rating: 💜🖤🖤🖤🖤
an episode that might otherwise have been a promising 2/5 or maybe even 3/5 receives 1/5 for the last few minutes alone.
as usual, moffat likes to break rules like “we can’t go to gallifrey’s history anymore it’s timelocked” on a whim, and by on a whim, I mean, because if he goes to gallifrey’s distant past, he can make it so his characters are somehow the most important people of all time, because they teach the doctor important life-long lessons, isn’t clara amazing, wow, the companion who knows the doctor the most, the one who told him not to fear monsters under the bed.
it’s the smuggest bullshit i’ve ever seen and i’m so fucking done with this man’s insistence on his characters being the most important to the doctor. he consistently shows no respect to the companions and people that have come before his and it’s infinitely frustrating.
also the entire premise was apparently “the doctor is afraid of the dark” which is just an exhausting reveal for all the drama it puts us through to get there. especially since all the elements of horror are 100% recycled moffat bullshit: corner of your eye (cracks in time), monster under the bed (girl in the fireplace), don’t look at it (blink in reverse), like... so, so painfully rehashed
the date with danny itself was kind of cute but clara’s interactions with orson and rupert pink were awkward at best.
skip it. save yourself
episode 5: time heist
rating: 💜💜💜🖤🖤
honestly with personal bias this one should be a 4/5, but again, that’s personal bias. I mean, come on. space bank heist. what’s not to love. i’m a sucker for a good ocean’s eleven.
good scary moments, good puzzles, interesting characters, fun times.
the architect reveal was obvious but it was a funny reveal the way they did it so who cares. the reason for the heist was a little cliche too but still very good. nothing outstanding, but good job.
would recommend.
episode 6: the caretaker
rating: 💜💜🖤🖤🖤
I liked courtney. good kid.
the doctor was very in character and vain with the whole adrian thing but there was imo a slightly racist undertone of him presuming clara’s boyfriend was adrian, who looks like matt smith, over danny, a black dude, that made the whole thing kind of uncomfortable.
the fact that disdain for pe teachers is never questioned was annoying too. even if i personally think so, it’s really irritating to see math elevated as somehow better than pe, inherently.
i spent most of this episode mildly annoyed. i do like clara though.
episode 7: kill the moon
rating: 💜💜🖤🖤🖤
an otherwise enjoyable episode, this one is brought down by the fact that all the main players towards the end are women, and as usual with moffat’s era, the doctor never seems to respect or listen to them when it really counts.
this used to be a show I loved because the doctor picked up ordinary women and showed them extraordinary things, and more importantly, showed them that they could be extraordinary too. now it’s a show about extraordinary women trying to live ordinary lives while a man shows them extraordinary things but insists on treating them like mundane, ordinary beings.
I really hope chibnall doesn’t continue this trend.
i suspect we’re meant to empathize with clara at the end, but disagree with her, but like honestly, tell him the fuck off clara. I mean, he won’t learn from it, because moffat’s doctor never does, but tell him the fuck off anyway.
episode 8: mummy on the orient express
rating: 💜💜💜🖤🖤
pretty good. brought down, as usual, by the doctor’s personal struggle of the season, but pretty good.
great build-up, good suspense, fun mystery. good atmosphere. unsatisfying to have no answers about the perpetrator. zero memorable characters, which is the biggest reason it rang dull, imo.
clara wears the flapper look extremely well. it’s pretty sad when clara’s outfit is a highlight of an episode, though.
might recommend.
episode 9: flatline
rating: 💜💜💜💜🖤
I enjoyed an episode of doctor who!!!!!! will wonders never cease!!
the only bad part of this episode was the last minute or two where they touched upon the doctor’s "am I a good man” pity festival and gave us another glimpse at missy.
everything else: fantastic. moral struggles! intense and frightening scenes! fascinating new ideas! neat special effects! the most thrilling new doctor who enemy I’ve seen in ages! clara being absolutely outstanding - moreover, finding out that she is outstanding! fantastic solution at the end! memorable characters who I rooted for!
that was a thrill from start to finish and the first time all season I’ve really, actually, truly remembered why I used to love the show.
would recommend for sure!!
episode 10: in the forest of the night
rating: 💜💜💜🖤🖤
pretty touching, and actually hit most of the emotional beats it was aiming for! that surprised me.
loved the concept behind the trees. appreciated maebh’s story for the most part. cute to have the kids from the school interacting with the doctor.
still not sure what the point of danny is? I like him and he and clara have their sweet moments but it’s hard not to feel like every writer writes him differently, and like him saying “I don’t care what the truth is I just don’t want to be lied to” rings false because every time she has told him the truth it’s been a problem.
also: so exhausted by the idea that danny, as clara’s boyfriend, has any say over how clara’s allowed to spend her time, or who she chooses to spend it with.
that’s not danny’s fault I don’t think he’s intended to be read as controlling I think the writers are misogynistic little shits.
episode 11: dark water
rating: 💜💜💜🖤🖤
I went into this one preparing to loathe it and as it turns out I was mostly wrong!
this would have been 4/5, except that only since missy’s a girl they have the gall to make her relationship with the doctor tread on explicitly romantic territory? uh-huh. seriously that kiss scene was awful and moffat’s “surprise kisses where one participant is extremely uncomfortable” strikes again.
let the doctor kiss men, you fucking cowards.
but... masterful plan, pardon the bad joke. saw the twist when they went into the elevator, of course, and internally screamed. can’t believe I recognized the stinger, but I did. very well done, very well set up, very emotional.
seriously if it weren’t for the fact that missy and her “romance” and her “craziness” represents everything I fucking despise about doctor who’s recent treatment of women, I’d say this was a damn good episode. what a shame.
episode 12: death in heaven
rating: 💜💜💜🖤🖤
it was good but a large part of the reason I feel so good after watching it is just the fact that I probably won’t have to deal with so much irritating “blah blah soldiers suck” drivel and the whole “am I a good man?” pity fest from the doctor if I watch s9.
another large good part is the shoutout at the end to lethbridge-stewart, that was sorely needed tbh. about time.
missy was well acted, but I’m still so fed up with the boring het treatment of it all. hey quick questions: why would time lords give a fuck about gender roles or gender orientation as more than weird, antiquated quirks? for that matter why do they even acknowledge the existence of a gender binary half the time? i’ll never know.
good choices include the plot and its resolution. laughing forever at doctor who’s insistence on upgrading their villains to make them somehow scarier all the time, but at least they had a plot reason for it too. also, clara’s bit about feeling special. that’s something I’ve thought was missing from doctor who for a long time, and to see it in a form I can almost believe was a breath of fresh air.
boring choices include setting up as if this episode is going to be all about clara being a total badass, only for it to last all of three seconds. which isn’t to say that clara wasn’t or isn’t a badass so much as, “boy do I love watching an episode where she spends nearly all of it upset and having no lines though.” hint: I do not.
mediocre choices include the characters chosen to be killed off. not like I expected better, of course. please, if you’re listening, let bill come out of her adventures with the doctor alright. people who don’t fit in moffat’s box of tricks so rarely do.
i’ll watch the christmas special some other time. i sense another bad one coming on.
s8 sucked but I liked some parts of it! wonder how s9 is.

Jose Ramirez defends title with brand-new trainer and renewed inspiration
On March 17 in New York, Jose Ramirez achieved a lifelong dream as he outfought and outboxed Amir Imam to win an uninhabited junior welterweight world title. It was a jubilant victory, and when the ratings were read, Ramirez commemorated with his team, consisting of longtime fitness instructor Freddie Roach.Jose Ramirez vs.
Danny O'Connor Where: Conserve Mart Center in Fresno, California When: Saturday TELEVISION: ESPN, ESPN Deportes 9:30 p.m. ET Little did anyone know at the time, but that would be their final
battle together. Normally, fighters alter trainers when they lose, not when they win the biggest fight of their career.Though Ramirez proclaims a deep respect and adoration for all Roach did for him, and for his Hall of Popularity profession, he likewise felt like he required more attention and to be more of a priority. And so in spite of a career-best win, Ramirez called Roach in April and informed him he was moving on.Ramirez left Roach's Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood
, California, where Roach assistant Marvin Somodio was typically his hands-on fitness instructor, to go with trainer Robert Garcia.Editor's Picks"I wish Freddie absolutely nothing however the finest. He's an amazing coach, now it's a new chapter and I'm delighted I'm with somebody that feels the exact same excitement about my career and who does the little
things to make me comfy,
"Ramirez told ESPN.So committed to the modification, Ramirez rented an apartment for himself, his girlfriend and their 2-year-old child that is just a couple of minutes from Garcia's fitness center in Riverside, California, so he would not have to make the everyday hour-plus drive from his location in Los Angeles."It's larger and I pay less than in L.A.," Ramirez said, laughing. And so Ramirez will go into his very first title defense with Garcia as his chief 2nd rather of Roach when he squares off with heavy underdog Danny O'Connor (30-3, 11 KOs ), 33, a southpaw from Framingham, Massachusetts,
in the main occasion of the Leading Rank Boxing on ESPN card Saturday night at the Save
Mart Center in Fresno, California, where Ramirez, from neighboring Avenal, California, is a substantial draw and the toast of the neighborhood for his ring exploits and steadfast social work."This was my dream. Because I was little, I desired to become a world champ and then have the ability to protect the title in front of the fans of the Central Valley, "Ramirez stated."That is occurring on Saturday."Before the fight with Imam, Ramirez (22-0, 16 KOs ), 25, had currently begun to think about
making the switch to Garcia. He has actually known Garcia for many years, and a couple of months before the Imam fight, prior to he began his full camp at Wild Card, he went to train with him for about a week. Jose Ramirez, left, got a new fitness instructor in Robert Garcia for his junior welterweight
title defense against Danny O'Connor. Photo by Mikey Garcia/Top Rank "I liked how he worked, but I had to go to the Wild Card to complete up, "Ramirez stated. "Marvin invested a great deal of time
with me, and I desired Marvin to be there and see become a world champion, and Freddie also invested a long time in me. I could not make the move before ending up being a world champion. I felt I owed them that respect, to provide them that credit of ending up being a world champ together. "After he won the title, Ramirez stated he was still uncertain if he would make the modification.
"I still wasn't One Hundred Percent sure of leaving the Wild Card. I was utilized to being there.
Marvin existed. It was extremely tough to leave," Ramirez said. But then something happened that Ramirez stated made the decision clear for him. He and a friend participated in HBO's March 29 Hollywood premier of the network's documentary on battling legend Andre the Giant with Roach. Ramirez had just won the title and hoped that he would stroll the red carpet with Roach, who would reveal off his new champion. "I wish Freddie nothing but the very best. He's an incredible coach however now it's a brand-new chapter and I enjoy I'm with somebody that feels the exact same enjoyment about my career and who does the little things to make me comfortable."Jose Ramirez Rather, Ramirez said a member of Roach's group" informed us to go in the back door and we'll see you within," while Roach strolled the red carpet." I was a little offended,"Ramirez said."If I had a world champ, I would make certain he was known. I hadn't made a 100 percent option to leave until that day."And so now he is with Garcia and
pleased with his choice." I required somebody to really think in me and be encouraged to press me to my limits,"Ramirez said."Freddie has actually had many champions. I
have no idea if his enjoyment was still there. I saw enjoyment in Robert to train me. He wished to train a guy who was valuable and who could take it to the next level. He was excited to see someone like me, and that motivated me. He wishes to be a part of it too. He opens up the health club to my sponsors to go see me train." Freddie's group, they're really nice. They have my regard. Now with Robert, the difference is he has a lot of really great prospects and champions, and it resembles a group. I seem like I belong to a team. I was more by myself
in Wild Card. Now there are others who press me." Garcia makes obvious of the truth that he had his eyes on Ramirez even when he was an amateur. Jose Ramirez, right, defeated Amir Imam by consentaneous decision in March to win a vacant junior welterweight belt. AP Photo/Frank Franklin II)
"I wanted him considering that the beginners," Garcia said. "I went to a few of the amateur battles that he had in the Fresno location, and I remained in talks with his daddy and Jose and everybody surrounding Jose. They chose they wanted to begin their profession off with Freddie Roach and no hard sensations, no absolutely nothing. Before his last battle when he ended up being champ, we currently had actually been speaking about training together. He had already trained in my gym for a week or so, but for him, he stated it was too challenging to be driving back and forth since he still had a house in Hollywood, and it was very near to his fight to do the drive every day, so he decided to end up training camp and consider that fight, the world title fight, to Freddie Roach, which he felt Freddie Roach was worthy of.
"I still had two of my people drive to Hollywood for sparring to assist him get ready for that fight. We already had that connection, and following that battle, it was already said we would begin collaborating. He's very dedicated, trains extremely hard, really simple, a kid that has so lots of things in mind not just for himself however for his community in the Fresno location. Just a great kid."
Rick Mirigian, Ramirez's supervisor, said the pairing has been exceptional.
"I wanted him given that the amateurs. I went to a few of the amateur fights that he had in the Fresno area and I remained in talks with his father and Jose and everyone surrounding Jose. They chose they desired to begin their profession off with Freddie Roach and no difficult feelings, no absolutely nothing." Robert Garcia
"Ramirez has actually shown a fire I have not seen in a long period of time," he said. "He mores than happy and inspired, feels at home and feels a bargain of respect. Garcia has done exactly what he assured, provided him the top priority time, had high-level sparring with guys like Mikey Garcia, and has actually made some great tweaks with Ramirez's defense that does not take his aggressive nature away, however offers him some different appearances and visible enhancement in those areas.
"It was the right call [to change trainers] Not an easy call, however the best one, as we value and will constantly respect Freddie and Marvin. Being a world champion required being the top priority now and having the fighter feel highly that you truly think in him to be a star."
When Mirigian worked out the offer for Garcia to end up being Ramirez's fitness instructor, he got one major concession that showed the Ramirez camp simply just how much of a concern he would be.Garcia likewise trains his younger sibling, four-division world titleholder Mikey Garcia, a ruling lightweight titlist and one of boxing's finest pound for pound. In the not likely event he and Ramirez have actually battles set up on the exact same day, Robert Garcia assured that he 'd opt for Ramirez and leave Mikey in the care of their dad, Eduardo Garcia, and Robert's boy, Robert Garcia Jr." We've been in that scenario previously, two fighters or two
world champs fighting the exact same day. That's why I have a terrific group with my daddy, who has actually constantly been there to assist with whatever I need. My kid. He's found out a lot," Robert Garcia said. "He's prepared for whatever we have to do. If Jose is to eliminate the very same day as Mikey, which we would aim to prevent as much as possible, however if that day does come, I don't even have to speak to Mikey about it or my dad." My papa and my son would deal with Mikey's battle because, like I said, we're a team. Plus, my papa is really familiar with Mikey's career. My papa's part of the group every day. My boy is likewise, so we would have no problem with that. That would not be a problem at all. I would go with Jose, and my dad and my son would stick with Mikey."It's that sort of dedication and commitment that Ramirez was looking for."I think I found it now in Riverside," Ramirez said.
