- 100 OC QUESTIONS -

16. How affectionate is your oc and how do they convey their affection? Touchy or not touchy?

The Parable Cast range from overly and deliberately touchy to deliberately unphysical.

Monty is an asshole in that he will use affection as a manipulation tactic, to get what he wants OR to make someone uncomfortable in order to get what he wants. When he is expressing genuine affection, it is unconscious touch that shines through, touch without intent. A hand on the shoulder, the small of the back, the arm or elbow, leaning up against someone, brushing arms and hands and fingers. Monty is a very tactile person.

On the other hand, both Cin and Flea, raised in the elitist old blood circles of magicians, were not raised in an environment of affection. In fact, showing affection was taught out of them early on. Cin is incredibly touch-starved and hesitant when it comes to touch, he shows his affection through listening and memorising and providing for people without asking. Flea has been out of that environment for a while, but is still uncomfortable with initiating softness, in moments of intensity, she will initiate touch, clutching someone's shoulders, moving them bodily if they are in harms way, looking them over for injury etc. Sometimes she may punch someone's shoulder in affection, but like her brother, she shows she cares through close attention and observation rather than touch.

26. How does your oc sleep? Do they move around a lot? What position do they usually sleep in and what are their usual bedding arrangements?

Greta sleeps curled into a little ball all night because she gets cold easily and as a child she would hide in her father's office and fall asleep in random places. She can also fall asleep in very strange places, a lot of the time she does not even make it properly to bed before the early hours of the morning as she has fallen asleep so reading in a chair.

Flea falls asleep very stiffly and as the night progresses slowly relaxes into a more comfortable position, sometimes she has nightmares and will become rigid again rather than tossing and turning. She is used to sleeping alone and the precious few times she sleeps next to another person are usually shallow and unrestful.

Monty sprawls in his sleep, taking up as much space as possible. He tosses and turns a lot because he runs hot, so although his bed is piled with pillows and throws they all end up on the floor by morning

48. What are your oc's nervous tics? Are they aware of them? Do they try to hide them?

Cin flexes his hand when he is nervous, born from an injury he sustained as a child. He is aware that he does it but often the act is subconscious and he immediately hides it when he becomes aware.

Greta is a nervous fiddler but she does not allow herself to indulge very often, usually schooling herself into stillness when she feels the urge.

Monty exaggerates his personality to hide the fact that he is nervous, he is restless kind of person normally so any underlying jitteryness often goes unseen by others.

Flea likes to crack her knuckles when she is either nervous or lost in thought (they often go hand in hand), she does not bother to hide it because it comes across as satisfyingly intimidating to others.

91. What is your oc's typical posture like? Do they slouch or stand up straight? How much space do they take up, physically and figuratively?

Monty is a natural born lounger, is he is not rested up against something or someone it's very unusual. Physically he is very tall and thin, figuratively he has a huge personality and every room becomes almost stifling when he enters.

Cin has a very rigid and upright posture, he has a commanding presence due to the fact that he holds himself like he thinks he is important and that other people should too. When he is relaxed he almost fades into the background, which he won't admit that he prefers.

Greta has very proper posture, she was subject to etiquette classes as any upper-class child was in their education. She can switch between projecting her presence and dampening it, which often helps when she wants to be present during her father's business but is dismissed as a mere women by his associates.

Flea, like Cin, has an unapologetic kind of presence and posture, she does not slouch or make herself small, she does not cower or bend. Unlike Cin, when Flea relaxes her presence does not diminish but rather becomes less oppressive but still all consuming. When she is focused on something or someone, her entire world narrows into that and they can definitely feel her attention.

3) How competent would your oc be in a survival situation? Would they be better off on their own or in a group?

Sebastian is more booksmart than survival smart, but he could theoretically apply some of his book knowledge towards survival if he had to, but really he would do a LOT better with a group.

7) Does your oc collect anything? What about of knowledge or facts? How big is their collection?

Sebastian collects folklore both in stories and interviews/orally recorded stories. He has several shelves of this. He also collects (hoards) journals to write in.

22) How easily does your oc fare in the sun? Do they tan or burn easily? Are they completely unaffected?

I'd say he burns pretty easily. He's pretty pale, doesn't by choice go outside a whole lot, stays in University type settings or his home mainly.

Hi, friend! Thanks so much for sending this and giving me an opportunity to talk about Jo. It's been a while. You sent me another ask last week for an ask game, and I wish I had an excuse for why I haven't answered, but I don't. I will answer it tonight, though.

50. How attentive is your oc? How perceptive are they? How easily do they get distracted?

Jo is attentive and attuned to other people's wants and needs. She wants to make people feel good and appreciated, so she makes sure to pay attention. She's very focused, so she doesn't distract easily.

Her perception skills depend on her level of comfort with someone. She can more or less read her brothers' minds, but that perceptiveness slips when she doesn't know someone very well. She's completely unaware that Anthony is attracted to her for large parts of their story.

51. If your oc was to receive an award for something, what would it most likely be for? Have they received any awards in the past?

Jo is an incredibly talented equestrian, and if she were allowed to, she definitely would have competed in horse shows and won awards. Because of the perception of women as the weaker sex in the time period, she's not able to.

52. In what ways does your oc cope with anger? How easily angered are they? Do they lash out?

Jo doesn't get angry often, but when she does, she doesn't handle it well. She will bottle it up because she doesn't want to confront people and make them feel uneasy. She will only lash out at her brothers.

53. If your oc was to host a podcast or TV show, what would it be about? Would your oc actually be good at it? What sorts of guests would appear?

Jo would probably host a TV show about nature, gardens, flowers, and animals. She's very proud of the gardens at the family's estate in Wales, so if TV had been a thing in the 1800s, that's what she would have done. I don't think it would be a successful show, but she would love it.

54. How would you describe your OC's voice to sound like? Do you have any voice claims for them?

Jo is softspoken but not quiet. You will always be able to hear what she says, but her voice doesn't carry like other people's would.

55. How sensitive to loud sound is your oc? Do they prefer constant high background noise, low background noise, or complete silence?

Jo has no issues with noise and prefers low background noise. Complete silence is a little unsettling for her, but it has never really been an issue.

5. What is your oc’s patience like? When waiting for something, are they able to sit still or do they fidget? How do they fidget?

Chrys has very little patience. She would fidget, pace, go on her phone, play with anything in the area, tap things, explore the area. She'd rather do pretty much anything else than wait, and sometimes she can get away with it.

22. How easily does your oc fare in the sun? Do they tan or burn easily? Are they completely unaffected?

She can tan a little, but sunburns easily. She'll avoid circumstances with a lot of direct sunlight if she can.

44. How violent is your oc? Or are they more a pacifist? To what lengths will they go to start/avoid a conflict?

Chrys is a little violent in a self-destructive way, and she's very impulsive. She'll avoid hurting others if she can, but may still break things, slam her body against something, or hit something if the need arises.

71. What is your oc’s go-to for offense? What weapon, what style of fighting? Or are words more their weapon of choice?

Since the story and circumstances aren't fighting-focused, it's not really something I explore. There is some magic that allows her to avoid or escape a fight if it came up. Before she learns that, though, if she found herself needing to defend herself it would be with whatever she had at her disposal-- her fists, random objects, knees-- and escaping the situation if she can.

Valerie Irene Powell. [laughs] Yeah, my initials are VIP. My dad had a dorky sense of humor, and my mom let him get away with it. "Irene" is my great-grandmother's first name on her side of the family.

.ೃ࿔*:･ NICKNAME?

Pretty much just "V" these days, which was all Jackie's doing. A lot of the staff and some regulars at Nishimura's used to call me "Blue," but that was ages ago. Overly familiar acquaintances who don't know me well but think they do usually call me "Val."

.ೃ࿔*:･ GENDER?

Biologically female, no gender alterations or augmentations.

A/N - Valerie is a cis woman, but I don't see that specific language being in her vernacular.

A/N: I say Valerie is bi, because that is the contemporary real-life word that best reflects her sexuality for me when I'm talking about her, but when I was really thinking about it from her POV and in the context of her world, I don't think she'd be too hung up on a label. She'd also probably see her wide spectrum of attraction as closer to the default, not the exception.

I'm a typical American mutt. My dad's side of the family can mostly be traced back to Western Europe--my grandmother told me "Powell" is an Anglicized form of an old Welsh surname--and my mom's side is from the Eastern Mediterranean. Dad's side has been in NUSA for a long time (like two centuries before it was even called NUSA), but Mom's family has only been here for a few generations.

I just love fresh fruit. It's such a rare treat in Night City--I'll take fresh strawberries or melons over any other kind of sweet treat.

Spring! When everything starts turning green and flowers are blooming. There aren't a ton of places in Night City where you can really experience that, but I know a few hidden gems.

Hydrangeas, probably. Especially the blue and purple ones. Oh, and wisteria! A tree covered in blooming wisteria is one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.

Freshly brewed coffee; new car smell; woodsy, smokey colognes and perfumes; real leather; whatever incense Misty uses in her shop; clothes right out of the dryer; lavender; a ton more that I know I'm forgetting!

Strong coffee, black, maybe a little sugar if I'm feeling indulgent. Tea is nice, but it's not my caffeine fix. I like a cup of lavender or chamomile tea at night. Hot chocolate is too heavy and rich for my taste. A sip is nice, but I could never finish a cup.

I try not to get any fewer than 6 hours, but that's easier said than done some nights. Okay, most nights.

You know, I've only ever seen one dog in person. A childhood friend's family had one--I don't know the breed, but it was a yippy little shit and it bit me! Never really wanted to see another dog, if I'm honest.

I like cats, though. There's a stray that hangs by Misty's place--He's the sweetest little guy. I picked up a bag of kibble we keep there to feed him when he comes around.

I've actually traveled a lot--My parents had to go to Biotechnica's HQ in Rome a few times when I was a kid, and they usually turned those trips into an excuse to have an extended European vacation. And I went all over the globe working for Arasaka for 7 years. I'd love to go back to Japan for non-work reasons.

You're gonna laugh, it's so predictable. In my defense, I can't remember the last time I watched or read anything new--Actually, that's not true. For you, I'll do my precious boy, Roo

1. Since Roo is Swedish in blood, and is slowly but surely learning Swedish as a language, He's wanted to implement it into (almost) everyday speech, so one of the most common ways he'll say "hello," is "Hej!" "Hej Hej!" and "Hallå!"

2. I may have mentioned this before, but I'll say it again; Roo sleeps like a corpse, it's strange and he's had studies done for this, however the results usually lead to He's fine and is just how he sleeps- For example, the human heart is supposed to lower to around 40-50 BPM when sleeping, his heart will go down to 20-30, and in rare cases (at least in what's been recorded) 15~ BPM- He also just goes completely limp when sleeping, which is, obviously, INCREDIBLY shocking to others who don't really know him well LMAO

3. So before I began really dwelling on who Roo was and was just kind of throwing ideas out there for his personality and hobbies/job, I made him sarcastic, incredibly observant, slightly unempathetic, and somehow very dense (despite being observant-), his hobby was fashion design and he did fashion designing as a freelance/part-time job

4. Contrary to popular belief (ig?), Roo takes VERY cold showers, whether morning or night, it's cold- That's not to say he won't take warm showers, cause he will, but he's just gotten accustomed to the chill of a cold shower, which may be a nod to his homelife as a child 👀 However, during winter he WILL take warmer showers (lukewarm btw not even warm warm)- He has no reason to take super cold showers, I suppose he's kind of frugal in that nature, it's also just habit and not being able to handle warmer temperatures well

5. Like most men, Roo can grow body/facial hair, but ALSO like most men, Roo does not like growing out body/facial hair, more specifically his facial hair. Has there ever been a point where he DID grow out his facial hair...? Yes... would you be surprised if I told you it was when he was trying to "normalize" himself (aka when he was 18)? Well he did try and succeed at growing his facial hair at 18, but of course, with the era of being 19 around the corner, the facial hair did NOT last long. Nowadays, Roo absolutely DESPISES facial hair (on himself) and will shave til his skin peels off to guarantee it doesn't come back

You know I can't pass up the opportunity to redesign Maple for the alternate timeline! [Transcript at the end]

Alt!Maple stayed in N'kosopa rather than moving back to Gokkan considering the state of the planet after God's Wrath. This causes them to be more N'kosopan with their delinquent behavior being more open than how reserved they are in the main timeline. They also have scars and is partially blind in their left eye after an accident as a teen while working. Their glasses are mostly for aesthetic purposes and OG!Maple tends to be shy. Alt!Maple isn't so they find no need for the glasses.

As for their crush on Rita, it's something they try to bury. They're not exactly fond of Alt!Rita being flirtatious, but they're just as flustered around the Gokkan King. The only reason why the two even see each other is because Maple still takes jobs in other countries so visiting Gokkan is always on the table. But they're a total tsundere so they would curse Rita out if they take the flirting too far.

12. How well would your oc cope if placed in a leadership position?

Supriya (Vishwakarma) thrives in leadership, the real question should be how would she cope if she was forced to take the backseat. (badly, the answer is very badly she does not give up control easily or with grace.)

Arlo (Finneas) is comfortable in the passenger seat but when snap decisions need to be made he will always step up to do what he thinks is right for other people. I think he would surprise himself with how well a leadership role would settle on his shoulders.

Jack (Blume) is one more responsibility away from curling into a ball and never uncurling.

41. What was the worst injury your oc has ever suffered? Did it leave a long lasting impact on them?

Jack was possessed as a child regularly and it has fucked that kid up on so many levels.

Arlo broke his arm as a kid (he was the kid who would see the tallest tree and absolutely have to climb it). He doesn't have any lasting pain or fear of heights but sometimes he remembers how his older brothers wrote crybaby on his cast and nobody else wanted to touch it after.

The worst injury Supriya ever suffered was to her pride and she took that personally.

60) How good is your oc at keeping track of time? Are they always late, always early, or always right on time?

Horrible. He is horrible at keeping track of time. (But his students are very good at flagging him at 5mins til end of class so at least he doesn't let them out late).

65) If you were to give your oc a new superpower, what would you choose and why? If *they* were to be able to choose, what would it be and why?

Speed reading, he'd find that very useful when researching about werewolves in obscure lore and stories. If he himself could choose...He might opt to be able to switch conditions with his daughter where he was the werewolf and not her.

76) What is/was your oc’s relationship with their family like? Was it happy, tense, or abusive? What living family does your oc currently have, if any?

He's closest with his brother/cousin (still deciding which he is), Connor. In fact, after his divorce with his ex, he asked Connor if he would help him with his daughter Amanda, who agreed to come move in with him and help out.

His relationship with his parents is kinda neutral. They don't fully approve of his career choices but they still helped him pay for his degrees, they just are concerned about being a professor actually paying well enough to pay for him and Amanda and keep a roof over their heads.

His relationship with his ex-wife, though, not great. She left them, didn't want to be responsible when their daughter came along, decided she wanted a more interesting man. He was pretty hurt by their divorce but he's thankful he has complete custody of their toddler whom he loves very much.
