One of the most generally useful things to come out of Hbomberguy's plagiarism video and Todd in the Shadows' similar video on misinformation is how they bring transparency to the internet phenomenon of "I made up a guy to get mad at".
Seriously, I've seen people make up a lot of stupid shit on the internet over the years and it's often just a manipulative attempt to paint a group of marginalized people in a bad light.
That's the TL;DR version of this post.
Tumblr media
ANYWAY here is the long version
Those videos are mostly about James Somerton's plagiarism of other queer people's work. However I'd like to talk about that 20-30% of Somerton's original writing- and oh boy. It's mostly about complaining about White Straight Women and misgendering well-known trans creators such as Rebecca Sugar and calling Becky Albertalli a straight woman while it's pretty common knowledge that she was forced to out herself as bi because she received so much harassment over "being a cishet woman who appropriates LGBT+ stories".
One thing that irks me especially is how in his Killing Stalking and Gay Shipping videos Somerton brings up how straight women/ teen girl shippers exploit gay men for their personal sexual fantasies. This gets brought up several times in his videos.
Being all up and arms about Somerton being a "White Cis Gay Who Hates Women and Queer People tm" is not that useful because the kind of rhetoric he's using is extremely common in fandom and LGBT+ spaces on Tumblr, TikTok and Twitter. We really don't need to bring Somerton's identity to this since he is in no way an unique example.
It's hypocritical to make this about an individual person when I've seen A TON of posts, tweets and videos where queer people talk about these Sinister Straight Women who are supposedly out there fetishizing and exploiting queer men. It's pretty clear to me that this is just an excuse to shit on women and queer people for having any sexual interests. At worst these comments are spreading misinformation about BL, a form of media that has been excessively studied by both Asian feminists and Asian queer women.
This all sounds really familiar and I think it's good that people are calling it out as what it is: misogyny and transphobia. I'd also point out the potentially racist motives behind being this hypervigilant about Asian media.
People can absolutely be misogynist regardless of gender or orientation. I really don't know why we need to create some kind of made up enemy to get mad at. I actually think it's almost sinister how "anti-fujoshi" people call Slash shippers and fujoshi misogynists or claim that they have internalised misogyny while being dismissive about women's interests and creative pursuits under Japanese obscenity laws, China's censorship, book bans in American schools and various other disadvances that are part of being a queer and/or female creator.
I think we shouldn't be naive about the bad faith actors who want to turn queer people against each other. For example Fujoshi.info mentions anti-gender (TERF, GC etc) movement using this kind of rhetoric as well.
Anyway if you want to read more:
- about the false info around BL fandom fujoshi.info
-There is the scholar Thomas Baudinette who studies gay media in Japan. Here is a podcast with him and the scholar Khursten Santos
-James Welker is a BL scholar as well. Here is a podcast interview about the new international BL article collection he edited.
-I've already talked about this Youtube channel by KrisPNatz and his great Killing Stalking video that actually engages with the themes of the manhwa
- There is also HR Coleman's thesis DO NOT FEED THE FETISHIZERS: BOYS LOVE FANS RESISTANCE AND CHALLENGE OF PERCEIVED REPUTATION where she interviews 36 BL fans and actually breaks down why fetishization has become such a huge talking point in the fandom discourse. Spoilers, it's mostly about young queer people and women being worried that they will get judged and pathologized for their interest in anything sexual.
-Great podcast about Danmei and censorship with Liang Ge

Just a little rant
SOOOOO I've been thinking about something that I don't think is common knowledge.... In fandom, when a rich character has a medbay or recovery room why are we like not discussing where they store their meds? What kind of narcotics they have on hand? Where's their compounding suite for all the special IV drips that need to be made to order for those with weird biology? WHO HAS THE PHARMACY LICSENCE HUH??????? Who's sanitizing themselves, putting on fresh clean scrubs and making drugs to order? A lot of things come in powder form and have to be reconstituted before you can think about adding it to an IV bag or syringe.
sorry if this sounds beefy but Nurses and Doctors just order your shit if you go in to be seen. Techs fill the machines in each unit so they can pull from a locked cabinet. Pharmacy techs and Pharmacists are the ones double checking doses and drug compatibility??? We're the ones pulling the meds, making them if need be and sending them to each unit.
Do we think they'd trust someone not on the team to be making that kinda stuff??
Like. I know we get forgotten. Everyone talks about the nurse strikes but not about the pharmacy techs working conditions, and we ARE union, it just sucks majorly sometimes. Like NO ONE really knows or talks about how drs and nurses can't do their jobs without us.
Not sorry. They do stellar work for sure but there's an entire field to explore as fandom. There's questions no one thinks to ask! Getting a tech licsense is pretty easy and most jobs will do training on site once hired! I mean I'm approaching 2 yrs now in pharmacy, I dropped out of college... it doesn't seem hard to have Someone on a superhero team be qualified.

To expand on this, my problem with HCAR is that the creators simply don't seem to be very interested in Hifuu or its inspirations at all.
Characterization is a point you can argue on all day, so I'll avoid dwelling on it; however, they don't seem to be interested in the world itself or the themes and plot of the CDs. For the world, though Osaka is depicted as underwater, it appears to be mostly fine; Kyoto looks, essentially, as it does today, rather than decorated as if it was an artificial jungle. They don't bother going to Tokyo (or to anywhere else in the Hifuuture) but somehow I doubt that the anime which decided to go with the lazy indication of futurism, the airship, would be willing to depict an environment such that the Earth itself needed terraforming. There are also robots depicted (which don't seem to be common in the Hifuuture at all).
But by far the most egregious problem with the world is that it's set significantly less than a hundred years in the future from today, by dint of them meeting one of Sanae's relatives who was still around (and about the same age as Sanae) while she was around and her not appearing particularly old, barring white hair. Due to the fact that the Boyu Tokaido was built before the girls were even born, in the Jinki era (a past, rather than present, era) the CDs needs must take place in at least the 2090s if not later; the astronomical considerations of GFC require that it take place in 2151, though that's not necessarily intentional on ZUN's part.
As for the plots of the CDs, the anime seems completely uninterested in depicting either them or anything like them. That is to say, after the first episode, it neither shows the events of any of the CDs nor has the Hifuus having philosophical conversations about anything (!). The latter is what's really unfortunate- that is, after all, the entire point of the Hifuu Club in the music CDs in the first place. Having them visit other worlds or expose the secrets of their own is essentially "fluff"; this is the reason why Retrospective 53 Minutes, Magical Astronomy, Dr. Latency's Freak Report, and Dateless Bar Old Adam exist at all. If the exploration was the important part, there would be no need for CDs like that.
(They don't even get their depiction of Magical Astronomy itself- the most saccharine and favorite CD of JP and CN Hifuu fandom- right- the girls are by no means implied to go to the moon. In fact, Merry isn't even implied to be able to manipulate boundaries intentionally until Dateless Bar Old Adam. But even if she could, she's kind of banned from the moon due to the, you know, whole invasion thing in the past. Even if she's allowed up there with a letter from Eirin in Grimoire of Usami, she's not just going to be allowed to drag her will-they-won't-they-friend up there for a tour, no matter how human she looks.)
The other two extant episodes essentially ditch the Hifuu Club format entirely. The second episode is about the disappearance of Sanae Kochiya, which is, frankly, a story that only Renko would believe in; it's something that you'd hear about on 2ch or at the Old Adam Bar, not something that they'd go on adventures to learn about. Anyway, it's entirely unfocused on the girls themselves or their philosophy. The third episode is about Merry dreaming about Lafcadio Hearn (using his extant nickname of the Raven, which, while cute, doesn't actually add anything to their depiction. They don't seem to have any tangible knowledge of what the man was like) and visiting the SDM.
For an anime titled as being about the Hifuu Club, they sure don't seem to be interested in actually exploring anything the Hifuu Club does, or their own philosophy. And not actually committing to Renmerry outside of Class S-ing it is cowardly. You're a fanime. You can put fucking yuri in there if you want. Granted, I don't really like the portions which do focus on the club itself, due to their characterizations, but they could have at least tried.
Basically, it's just kind of OC slop that is uninterested in its source material materially, thematically, or philosophically. You can make good work that's focused around OCs, but this isn't it.

I will always defend book Armand over this weirdass retcon and I'm a Muslim. Let them have their cake and eat it all, they support girls being raped, they support extreme DV, they support a Lestat that doesn't resemble any version of any Lestat known to man, I hope they drown in their feels. Leaves more room for the intelligent chatter to have adult conversations. The show has nothing to do with the VC universe except hypocrites.
I mean... I'm Muslim too, born and raised. I don't even know how this became an issue. I make a few posts this morning and suddenly I'm a racist and a pedo for wanting to see my favourite character in some sort of canon-like depiction. Like, damn. Now, I've lived my life and I have a thick skin but it's hilarious to me how this is essentially JA!Louis all over again.
It's such an anti-intellectual straw man argument to level against perfect strangers because they don't share your fandoms opinions. How does that truly negate anything I said and how am I supposed to respond to that? Sorry, I actually experienced rampant Islamophobia growing up visibly Muslim in post-9/11 New York. My real name is as Arab as you could possibly get, the TSA loves me. Me sharing my opinions on a casting choice for a crappy show on tumblr dot com is not racism or xenophobia, I'm sorry to tell you.
Me being upset about Armand's casting has nothing to with Assad Zaman. I would love to see more queer Muslim rep! It's an issue I've cared about since I was young, since it obviously affects my community directly. And I've said several times Rashid would be great as his own character! The absolute circles I have talked around myself to try to articulate my own opinions on my own blog every time it's come up in the past so I won't upset anyone... frankly, it's ridiculous.
And yes, the hypocrisy between people bitching about us Armand fans while wholeheartedly supporting the changes made to Claudia's character is unbelievable. Clearly, it's fine that Claudia in a "14-year-old's body" talks about sex all the times and is raped off-screen. It's fine she demands of her guardians, "Which one of you is gonna fuck me?!" and etc. This never happened in text, this is AMC creating problems that didn't exist. Not two weeks ago the same people were like "Oh, what if they're merging Claudia and Armand's stories together??"
So it's fine as long as they're getting what they want, that's the tl; dr of it all. This show pulled in less than half a million cable viewers last weekend, alright? It's really not that serious outside of our super nerd fandom spaces. It's not the successor to The Walking Dead AMC hoped it would be.
I don't talk about my religion a lot because this is a fandom blog, not a personal one. And I don't buy into the nonsense of having to reveal my private life in order to lend credibility to my opinions on a platform of strangers. I'm not going to list off my entire life history in the hope some randoms will take me seriously about vampires. And why would I share anything with people who behave like this?
But I do mention it in passing here and there and it is common knowledge to my fandom friends (Rashid praying was a fun time in the chat), so I don't want you to feel alone, anon. ❤️

choose violence ask game (loving the name of that btw) - 8, 16, & 23?
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
(this fandom is so small that I don't want to sound like I'm vagueblogging or @-ing someone or anything so I'm just gonna preface this by saying this also goes for plenty of licensed media)
oh man ok. at risk of sounding like a total killjoy who takes everything too seriously & looks too much into stuff. I'm pretty sensitive about. primitivism in the way jamie gets portrayed?? is the best way I can think to describe it?? anything that implies that where & when he comes from means that he's inherently less intelligent, or equates his lack of knowledge on some things with him being stupid. can't stand him being reduced to dumb guy who hits stuff. idiot who has no critical thinking skills or reasoning.
and like, I get that it's a fairly common assumption, the idea that people from the past weren't as smart because they didn't know as much (even setting aside the devaluing of /different/ ways of knowing & understanding) - but, say, victoria never gets this treatment. despite also being from the past. which then leads you to think, hey, why would people make that assumption about jamie and not about victoria?
and then you get to a bunch of ideas which have been kicking around since. before jamie's time, real-world-historically speaking. which depict the highlands as savage, as populated by 'wild' people, by - well - 'primitives'. speakers of a primitive language. violent, at worst, strong, at best, but never intelligent. & this is all starting to sound a lot like the ideas that buttress colonialism and biological determinism, isn't it?
idk. this is a silly 60s family tv show & a very very small online fandom. it's kind of not that deep. but any time jamie gets written off as being inherently stupid (often /because/ of where he comes from), and any time that idea is the foundation of a joke, it rubs me the wrong way, and this is why.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
gfdhkjsg once again this is a v small fandom so 'so many people' is kinda like..... 2 people max probably. & also I've been sort of keeping more or less to myself for a couple years now in terms of actually discussing thoughts & headcanons (except you obviously and also @ettelwenailinon who is always right about everything despite not being super active in dr who fandom on tumblr anymore <3)
gonna go with shipping jamie and victoria tbh. absolutely no hate if you do bc I can definitely see where it comes from in canon/behind the scenes stuff but it is just,,, not for me at all, and so antithecal to how I write/interpret their characters.
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to
tenrose?? weirdly?? not that I'd say I actively ship it (there is one (1) tenrose fic in my ao3 bookmarks but it's really there bc it's a pretty charming magical realism au and the voices of all the characters are just so spot on rather than bc I ever crave reading about the ship) but. when I got into dr who in 2013 there felt like there was a pretty solid line between rtd fans and moffat fans. & I have always vibed with moffat's era more (neither of them are above criticism obviously, the scifi fairytale aesthetic/tone of moffat's era is just so so so so tailor-made for me personally).
and for some reason tenrose and elevenriver were kind of. bundled into that opposition?? not sure if that was just in my head or something other people noticed/experienced but I felt like if you were a moffat fan you had to ship elevenriver & if you were an rtd fan you had to ship tenrose, and they were like. rivals. (yes I did try very half-heartedly to enjoy elevenriver. no I never succeeded). so I always had this thing of like, I don't like ten, I don't like tenrose.
like I said I still don't actively ship it, I don't get any warm fuzzy feelings from their relationship, but I did go back into rtd's era looking to actively enjoy stuff (after being tired of really not enjoying uh. recent seasons ajhksglf) and found that I didn't hate the concept of tenrose as much as I used to. I genuinely believed they liked each other, I felt the hubris of their relationship worked and built well narratively. never thought that ship would get a redemption arc in my head but I've definitely gained more appreciation for its role in the narrative.

I don't think we will be hearing Heidi or Stephen explaining the lack of emphasis on main cast development being down to CtM not being a soap opera again. (opinion)
I have put my thoughts on the CtM Series 11 finale under a line because of SPOILERS, but also because it appears a very popular development within the fandom and if someone doesn't want to read a critical opinion, it's easy to ignore.
I have been trying to keep an open mind about the current cast storyline in episode 7&8 until I've seen both episodes. After watching episode 7, I must admit I was surprised how universally well received it was. This was great to see after quite a bit of dissatisfaction being voiced during series 11.
So here I am to spoil it. Thank you @lovetheturners for giving a voice (in another reblog) to those of us who do have some scepticism (it might be just you and me) about the direction taken here.
My main worry is if either or both characters die, I may feel cheated. Let me explain why;
SJ, for me, leads the show. Jenny Agutter has headlined the credits since the departure of Jessica Raine. I know it is referred to as an ensemble cast, but the opening credits have never been listed in alphabetical order. In the case of Dr T, I am aware for a section of fans the Turner family or Turnadette are their main reason for watching. Heidi must also know this too.
I will find it very hard to come to terms with either of these characters been given a sensational exit. If either of these actors wanted to be written out, they are both quite capable of handling a terminal diagnosis storyline. Something we haven't seen before in a main character. I don't think we can include SMJ's suspected dementia, as I don't believe this has ever been referred too directly.
It would be in keeping with the show's habit of highlighting common and lesser known disease with an insight into the means of diagnosis and available treatments of the time. CtM also reminds the viewer, technology may advance and fashions may change, attitudes and the way we see the world may change, but people basically stay the same when it comes to our hopes and fears and relationships.
I don't particularly want any of these characters to have to deal with something so traumatic, but as we saw with Barbara, people's knowledge of Sepsis rocketed not just in the UK and lives were saved because of the impact of that storyline. So, yes I will feel very cheated if a chance to engage and inform about the nature of a serious illness has been traded for a sensational, rating grabbing stunt.
It sounds like I want them both to live, which I actually do, but that leaves me with the realisation that it has then been just that, a rating grabbing stunt. I know there was an actual fatal rail crash in south London on the dates implied and I am sure Heidi thought long and hard before moving it over the river and changing the cause of the accident. Mainly because the tragedy happened in living memory for many viewers and there will be people still alive who lost family members at Hither Green. So she will have not have chosen this storyline without due consideration. It happened in her and both Stephen's and Jenny's lifetime.
I just hope it was worth it and I feel more comfortable with the storyline on Sunday.

I just really hope Spamton doesn’t experience what happened to Sans is that people completely ignore the other characters entirely and focused only on him like I really hate how so many undertale aus just devolved to just being about Sans all the time and disregarded the other characters
I think I have seen some complaints about that, and I get it.
For as much as I love Spamton, I believe a lot of the other characters are just as interesting, especially Queen. Her role as a mother-figure who is also a computer is such a neat concept, and brings a whole new meaning to "motherboard". Her way of speaking is also just as unique and fun, and her design is gorgeous.
Again my knowledge on Sans is still very rusty but I always got the feeling he was much more introverted than Spamton, and therefore has not nearly as many connections which might lead to this spotlighting in some way.
Skeletons were popular in the UT fandom, but there was only one other skeleton to go along with Sans and it was his brother Papyrus, so the fandom had to improvise. Gaster...I still do not know if he was a skeleton, he may have skeleton-like qualities since it fits the theme of death and oblivion, but he might not be an actual skeleton. Sometimes the fandom improvised this by, well, making Sans clones.
Spamton has the Addisons. He has Swatch, Jevil and ostensibly Queen (who curiously never makes a single mention of him...). Being a salesman does entail having to make connections, so it makes sense for his character. There is less of a need for improvisation (besides making more Addison and Swatchling OCs, which is also great) when you have many more characters connected with him.
(Sans actually has more in common with Jevil, and Spamton with Papyrus. Food for thought.)
Generally the flavor for AUs I see in the DR fandom revolves around Snowgrave-clones (a pun on snowclones, would you look at that). Before that, I don't think I recall many AUs around chapter 1. There definitely will be more AUs after the rest of the game is released, and knowing how both the fandom and Toby have matured since, I am sure they won't all revolve around Spamton only. It's only the phenomenon right now because chapter 2 was just released, and who knows if Spamton will have as much of a presence in the next chapters as Sans did.
(Please correct me on my Sans inaccuracies. I am a Spamtonologist not a Sansologist!)

hello!! you seem both friendly and knowledgeable so i have a question if that’s okay!! so last night i ended up in a youtube spiral™ that basically culminated in me watching the full story of the golden lovers and having my mind blown because i had absolutely NO IDEA that pro wrestling was Like That. like yeah it’s common knowledge that all outcomes are staged but i wasn’t expecting the CHOREOGRAPHY. the STORYLINES. the DRAMA. this is like theatre but with more blood and twice as gay????. i’d love to get more into it but i just have no idea where to start?? there’s so much, and it seems crucial to know backstories and relationships and there are so many different wrestling circles?? basically the only one i’ve seen at this point is a little bit of njpw. wwe seems very big and flashy in a way i’m not sure i appreciate (yet?). aew seems like something people like? i’ve been dropped in the middle of an ocean here and if you could toss me any sort of lifeboat i’d be eternally grateful 😅
Hi! I'm sorry that it took me a moment to answer this!
YES, wrestling is Like That! I was also shocked when I first realized it, and was immediately hooked. But, yes, it also feels overwhelming to get started. There's so much history and culture that you have no idea about. There's so many rules and traditions! And so many different styles! How do you get started with pro wrestling when there's so much to know?
TL;DR -
Wrestling is really stupid and it's the best
Find the gays
Don't listen to the cishets
Find a wrestler you like and follow them
Watch whatever makes you happy
Do it in a way that is fun for you!
That's an easy list, but I'll elaborate as that's what I do.
So, first of all, I'd say: don't be intimidated. Wrestling is fundamentally stupid and campy, and if people don't understand and love that, they're getting it wrong. It so happens that the loudest majority of English-speaking fans online don't understand and love that fact, but that is not your problem as a new fan of good taste; pay it no mind. If it seems to you like wrestling is for the gays despite all its painfully heterosexual fans, trust your gut, you are correct. Wrestling is for the gays. We just let the cishets enjoy it too.
Related to that: don't feel like you have to know everything. You don't, that gatekeeper-y nonsense is an unfortunate vibe in many fandom spaces, and wrestling is no exception. But observing fan discussions and appreciation is a great way to passively learn and to be exposed to new things. There are many spaces where new fans are welcomed and where people want to help you learn about the sport. Tumblr tends heavily into that direction, as does (as far as I can tell) the gay contingent of the AEW fandom, and the queerer areas of wrestling twitter for the most part.
The advice lots of people give new fans is the best, imo: find a wrestler you like, and start watching some of their matches. It doesn't even have to be someone you like a lot, just find someone whose matches you love watching because of their style or their character. Through that, you'll inevitably find other wrestlers you like, and be exposed to different styles and ways of storytelling. Pick a random show, big or small, and watch the whole thing. See if anyone stands out to you. Whatever catches your fancy, whether it's a wrestler, a storyline, a faction, a rivalry, a style, whatever... you'll be able to find more of it, and slowly branch out.
If you live in the US and have TV, WWE and AEW are going to be the easiest to access. WWE is unfortunately hard to follow sometimes, because their storytelling is incoherent and unsatisfying a lot of the time, not to mention they are run by a maniacal oligarch who openly supports fascists and dictators. I would advise against giving WWE your money if you for some craaazy reason have ethical issues with Donald Trump, Saudi Arabia's human rights record, coverup of sexual abuse, union busting, or racism, just to name a few. In an industry with a universally hideous underbelly, WWE's hideous underbelly manages to stand above the rest, and that's no small feat.
But there are plenty of wrestlers in WWE who transcend that ugliness and put on incredible matches, and a lot of them have histories in the indies or in other wrestling companies. And consuming WWE content without paying for it is a victimless crime (plus a lot of it is on Hulu). AEW also has a lot of wrestlers with Histories, so if you find someone there who catches your eye, you'll be able to do a deep dive. Netflix (last time I checked anyway) has a few seasons of Lucha Underground, which is a great intro to wrestling storytelling IMO, and will introduce you to some of the biggest talents in the business.
You mentioned Japanese wrestling, which is also very accessible even if you don't speak Japanese. Most of the larger promotions have (paid) streaming services, and most also put specific matches on YouTube for free. And there's a lot you can find by just googling. You mentioned NJPW, which is good to watch bc they have an American branch and a large western fandom. DDT is not as popular with western fans, but they have a partnership with AEW (so you'll see wrestlers from both promotions as pandemic travel restrictions ease), and in my personal opinion, DDT understands what pro wrestling is better than any other promotion out there. It's a comedy promotion that also has some of the most talented wrestlers in Japan, who often put on completely serious matches that rival all the 'serious' promotions in quality, and they are one of the few Japanese promotions that do intergender wrestling. NOAH, Dragon Gate, and Stardom all also have large and dedicated contingents of English-speaking fans.
Lastly, as cliche as it sounds, HAVE FUN. Wrestling is supposed to be enjoyable and goofy. Don't feel like you have to do homework or watch an entire tournament to fully understand a storyline. If something gets boring or upsetting (wrestling can be problematic politically a lot of the time), watch something else. Fandoms dominated by men tend to turn liking things into a chore; whether it's sports or video games or philosophy, you're not really a serious fan unless you're doing a whole lot of work to learn everysinglething about it so you don't seem like a noob. Fuck that, the second it's not fun, find something that is, and if you end up saying something a noob would say, hey, no worries, it's because sometimes people are new to things.
Enjoy!! And feel free to ask more questions if this answer is too broad.

What's your opinion on "mainstream" TV shows like Dr.Who, Supernatural, Sherlock, Hannibal, for example?
(Also damn I love the ask button, it's so helpful)
Upfront I gotta say I've never watched a single episode of any of those in my life, Except Dr. Who, which I was a fan of as a young teen. Take my comments with the knowledge that it's based on pop culture osmosis, other people's reviews, video essays and youth based memories. Also, these are just my takes on this! I hold no ill will towards individuals or fans! I mainly touch on bigger patterns here, and again, my opinions
Supernatural - sounds like I'd enjoy it based on the whole biblical thing but I've heard of the gaybaiting and I'm not even gonna try lmfao. I really don't know enough to say if it'd be good enough to try regardless of all that, but I've heard it's.. Eehh.. Mass appeal I guess. No comment on the Fandom, I mean we're on Tumblr
Hannibal - this one seems definitely the most interesting. Not entirely sure if it would make me uncomfortable, with how I've heard the nature of the two main leads' relationship described (questionably dark relationships are something I'm really iffy about. It can depend heavily on how it's executed). Cannibal media is a fascinating brand of horror tho and from what I've heard this one is pretty decently written too! Can't entirely confirm or deny that but given the chance I'd probably try this one out
Sherlock - I like Benedict Cumberbatch! And the actor for Watson too, no idea about his name tho. The gaybaiting is also insufferable in this one. Seems like it could be a cool show but based on reviews (I recommend this video), it wouldn't keep me entertained that long. I do like murder mysteries but lately I don't feel all that interested in any media heavily featuring the police force. Based on vibes I'd say this one's okay if you don't take it too seriously but again I could be wrong
Dr who - I'm biased on this but I acknowledge there's loads of criticism to be given to this one. I have a fondness for it due to being a fan in my youth. I wish I could rewatch the show but i haven't had good chances to. I'll sound like an old crone saying this but some of the early seasons were genuinely really good! And I've had other people back this up too so it's not just nostalgia fog. As for the latter seasons, I do remember enjoying them too (even if not as much), but at this point it's hard to say whether or not the writing actually dipped in quality or if It just stopped appealing to me and my demographic specifically. I will say, I was elated to hear they finally had a lady doctor! I'm all for that as a concept, it was about time! But unfortunately based on what I've heard (from genuine critics, not just neckbeards being salty about "da feminists!!1!"), they're not really doing her justice! I haven't watched any modern Dr. Who so I can't say how much I'd like it but I'm strongly of the opinion that a lady Dr is good, and she should be handled with the equal respect and grace + ykno, actually skilled writing, instead of being heralded purely for being new and well, a woman™. And by this I mean, I don't want the representation here to be performative and surface level tokenism which is unfortunately common in mainstream media like this.

leave c!phil out of bullshit 2k21 -- a not so tiny post by a new enthusiast
Tumblr media
As someone who finds both common fanon and actual canon to be quite fun, I really think the general DSMP fandom would benefit greatly from a few things in general: the greatest, in my opinion, is learning to accept that popular fanon won’t usually be the canon you receive. Another, of course, is that POVs are golden, but with these two things being flimsy in being accepted, they are the major flaws that cause about 90% of the absolute messy takes that gain traction, oftentimes poisoning a canon character's ability to exist in the story.
My biggest beef regarding this comes from how y’all treat c!Phil, so here I am, being annoying on main side!
TL;DR... Just because someone acted like like a guidance to others, doesn’t always mean that they'll want to be the father figure role for everyone that breathes. Similarly, pinning down a character on a single trope is wack, so don't be surprised if they grow away from it.
Baby’s first little dsmp rambling below!
(Warning: it's long as hell)
The Dream SMP plotline is not written out like most popular media. With so many moving parts in the form of daily streams and the wonderful tool of live improvisation, it makes perfect sense that such a giant cast would not always be on the same page. Adding onto that, it also makes more sense that a vast majority of the cast will be placed into supporting roles, as the story needs to have characters that serve as narrative anchors and others that function as the links in a chain, all weathering the storm that is the plot.
Screentime, of course, plays a major factor into canon exposure -- in terms of the Dream SMP, POV matters equally, if not more, too.
It’s a pretty neat way of showing things, but in the end, the fanbase has a lovely (read: godawful /lh) way of analysing characters, particularly when it relates to how they interact with others from their fave character’s POV. The tendency to analyse things from a single character's POV is fine, but not when attempting to critique the greater whole of a conflict. Both sides, no matter how wrong they may seem to be, matter.
Adding onto the fact that everything is live, there are things that will spiral out of control, casual words being skewed and thus having the potential of a single line seemingly contradicting the entire ‘story’ that the fanbase has made. If it directly affects a fave's POV in particular, one is more likely to take offense, as bias immediately bars one from trying to see the other person's side of things.
POV is important.
Which brings me to c!Phil, and how critics tend to ignore his perspective to prop up another character, or justify the tearing down of another.
Improvisation is both a blessing and a curse; the fanbase, however, loves to test out the latter. With it, the fanbase starts crafting tales to justify it...And so begins the mess that is c!Phil discourse.
Say it with me, folks: c!Phil is not supposed to be your fave’s fluffy father figure... unless you’re c!Wilbur!!!
😃☝🏾Dadza is good...👉🏾😎👉🏾 But fandom wants the excessive, idealized version.
-- birb 2k21
Family dynamics are generally loved for their potential for comfort, particularly those of a found family nature. Fandom in general tends to lean into them wholeheartedly, with most major bases having at least one prominent group present; SBI, of course, is no different. From fanart to popular fanfiction, it's arguably the biggest group dynamic alongside the Dream Team, and for that, a precedence was set.
c!Phil, if he ever joined, would fix everything! All of the ‘kids’ would turn to their new mentor and everything would turn out fine! This all knowing, morally just character will chuckle at their antics and wacky hijinks will follow! Fun times, right? /s
The hope for it, however, has long since been shattered, and frankly, good for him!
To go a little ooc, cc!Phil has stated multiple times that, while he was friendly with a lot of the cast as c!Phil, his only paternal link (at least biologically) lies with c!Wilbur. Simple, right? It should be -- there are multiple clips of him saying this -- but fans choose to ignore it in their critiques, generally citing favouritism or downright neglect for the character’s flaws. From 'favoring' Techno (who, in canon, holds the highest link in friendship outside of c!Wilbur's familal link) to 'neglecting' to visit Tommy (who he barely knew, and also assumed, like many others, that he was fine), these critiques weigh heavily on the scale that judges Phil’s so called father figure trope.
The story, however, has only leaned into (and persisted with) that for c!Wilbur alone, and adding onto it, there is an established acknowledgement from both ccs. That confirmation should hold the most weight, especially since both Phil and Wilbur seem alright with it. Even so, that familial has yet to be explored much for both characters, particularly regarding c!Phil, who has his debut (at least narratively) in a scene that feels opposite to the classic fatherly role.
c!Wilbur denounced accepting that helping hand to fall entirely into his explosive end, setting a precedence unlike most fatherly types arriving to save their kid. Usually, fandom narrative would love a close save, father and son uniting to heal and build up what was broken, but c!Phil’s entrance inks his story in failure. Angsty, right? We love angst!
And yet, as the story ticks on, the bad takes pile up.
Why? Well, I’l used to think that it is a “funny haha” type thing; a way to grieve for a character that was lost, as Alivebur was genuinely a great character. However, with the plot slowly progressing c!Phil’s story to evolve away from the ‘mentor the kids’ trope , I should have seen a storm on the horizon.
It should have been seen from the moment he stabbed c!Wilbur in the chest, but optimism is one hell of a smokescreen.
Built up fanon, however, is probably the greatest fog to ever exist.
There are lines before the button room confrontation that paint a picture of Wilbur seeking out the approval of his father (who seemed distant, at least from his POV), as well as hints to the SBI dynamic, but with the countless dismissals/retcons from CCs involved, as well as little to no consistent canon acknowledgement of this team dad role...Why base an entire hate piece of c!Phil just because popular fanon isn’t real?
Why, for the sake of building up a well rounded character, would one place the title of a communal parental figure on a grieving father who has little attachment to the community involved, especially when most of them are too busy delving into their own issues?
Furthermore, why go for Mr. Philza Minecraft: Angel of Death, CEO of KEKW, Functioning Immortal????
It’s madness, luv, and frankly, antis cannot let c!Phil process any of his grief (or flesh out his character) without his contributions being fatherly. His role has been idealized to the point where he is not a character on his own, but an accessory to the happiness of other characters. That is not how the world works, and in a conflict riddled server like the dsmp, arguing that it should be like that is counterproductive.
c!Phil had his own shit to deal with, and as he slowly uncovers how fucked up the server actually was, he merely adapts to it. He learns to play the game by his own rules, and people become mad that he’s succeeding in his own way. It's as simple as that, particularly when referencing his initial exposure to the world he now inhabits.
c!Phil is a man who used to hear of his son’s success from the letters he received, words spinning tales of won revolutions and newfound friendships. To a father, those letters are more than enough to assume that all is well, and with it, he had no reason to check on his son, who was already old enough to be carving his path alone. For him to arrive and see just how broken his son actually was, and then, in front of faces he only vaguely knows, kill said son... There's a lot to take in.
He shouldn't have had to care about L'Manberg in those moments, not when he had his son in his arms, dead by his own goddamn weapon; his son who, to his knowledge, was doing pretty well up until he caught wind of his plot. Yet, he does.
He gives them the benefIt of the doubt, even ignoring the one person he has shown to have deep history with (c!Techno) to assist the nation in defeating the withers and rebuilding what was lost.
c!Phil stays in a nation that has seemingly brought his son right into his demise, holding in that grief to help people who he assumes have the chance to rebuild, to reform. For a moment, he trusts that the system can turn into something positive, offering to hunker down and do what he can to help. That’s the start of a fatherly type role for most -- with many expectations rising from fans to ‘fix’ all these traumatized characters.
In another plot, perhaps critics could have gotten the tropes they want from c!Phil, but to blame the character for reacting negatively to a world he barely knew, right after seeing it ruin his son and target a friend...Maybe the need for a "father figure" only stems from making their faves happy.
Characters that don't directly support your fave are not inherently awful characters. Critique based on that alone is...flimsy, really, but honestly, you can use to to show how they process things.
Which brings me to the events leading up to Doomsday, and with it, the steady rise of c!Phil’s defining traits.
Say it with me, folks: c!Phil is one of the most loyal members on the server, but loyalty doesn’t mean he's blindly following along!
😃☝🏾Butcher Army take this L👉🏾😎👉🏾 Found it in the L’Mancrater
-- birb 2k21
The butcher army arc, while nestled among the mainline story of Tommy’s exile (which I will not even mention, because those dadza takes about visiting may deserve a post on their own), allows for c!Phil to see into the minds of those who had once been with (or even against) his son’s plans. Sure, he may be witnessing them after the eve of their newfound traumas, but this is an important observation to make when comparing how easy it was to denounce his affiliation to them and side with c!Technoblade.
Unlike the new Administration, slowly dipping deeper and deeper into their own form of power hunger, c!Technoblade’s base desires had never wavered. His trust in others, however, had, still nursing the sting of a betrayal, but with no conflict in sight. He is reforming, finding comfort in his solitude, and still maintaining contact with those he trusts.
Techno's Compass, for one, is a major example of their mutual trust. Despite being on opposing territories, they are civil enough to trust each other, just like old friends.
Thus, when you take two old friends who are more than used to conflict -- one grieving and one betrayed, but both seeking neutrality -- it shouldn’t have surprised the antis that c!Phil would place c!Techno’s whereabouts (and life, mind you) over some government he barely knew.
And yet, above all else, c!Phil starts off as a neutral party for everyone's sake, forgoing potential conquest for peace.
To c!Phil and c!Techno, it’s like fighting back to back, knowing that one can always trust the other to fend off those just waiting to take advantage of your blindspot, while also quelling the need to imagine your partner turning around and doing the same. That sort of friendship is forged through many, many hardships.
They betray what little trust he had built in them. That’s on them.
c!Phil is aware how untrusting c!Techno is, and while c!Techno feels safe enough to give his all for c!Phil, he never exploits it to get ahead, which is something L'Manbergians felt okay with doing.
They take a book out of the playbook used on c!Techno, for c!Techno.
They went after yet another person who was close to him, using their power and influence to hold an execution under the guise of seeking justice. If c!Wilbur, at least pre-corruption arc, sent letters to his father, one would at least expect some of his old ideals of freedom and fairness to leak through into his friends, right? To see those c!Phil assumed would hold similar ideals immediately skew towards a darker, brutal side, particularly in threatening others to get what they wanted...Well, shit hit the fan.
c!Phil does not have that strong relationship with any former L’Manbergians, and despite there being potential for such, it didn't work out that way; instead, however, those characters manage to mistake his kindness for weakness. They take his preferred neutrality as a way to exploit him, to gain in such a way that he lost agency...
No more Mister Nice Dadza, and honestly, he’s justified in that notion.
They’ve lost his trust, time too short to have gained that strong link like c!Techno’s or c!Wilbur’s, and with it, came the inevitable association with Doomsday.
c!Phil knew c!Techno’s intentions from the beginning -- which had only wavered into dormancy because he had grown tired of fighting, understanding that the cycle he wishes to break is not worth his efforts -- so the agreement in participating is effortless.
c!Dream was there too, of course, but in their mutual quest for eradication, it’s made canon that c!Techno and c!Phil hid away most of their arsenal, despite seeming overprepared. They have no loyalty to c!Dream; they’re smart enough to play along, however. He was a means to an end.
There’s no lies present in their relationship; c!Phil needed someone who didn’t try and pull wool over his eyes, and c!Techno let him see.
c!Techno needed someone who wouldn't stab him in the back, and c!Phil stayed true as his hidden sword.
Which is why, as the two joined forces, ideals aligning and power synergized, they didn’t think twice about nuking the nation to bedrock. Mutually agreeing that the system needs to die, they did what they could, and they succeeded.
How cool of them, tbh LMAO.
New L’Manberg tugged too hard at the sleeping tiger’s tail; they shouldn’t have expected it to roll over.
Their openness to each other was known.
There was no need for underhanded plays, for hidden betrayals, for undisclosed words.
Their loyalties were strong.
They were in sync.
In conclusion (maybe, maybe not...this shit is long holy heck)
😃☝🏾 I may hate this analysis in 30 minutes👉🏾😎👉🏾 Or I may make a part 2. Fuck it!
-- birb 2k21
And that’s what makes c!Phil an interesting character: He tends to be critiqued in reference to chatacters who have very well wronged him, have no affiliation to him or get associated to him through popular fanon. There's a lot to cover that I haven't (from Ghostbur to the whole Tommy 'dilemna') but overall I'm digging what I have now and if I ever get more energy, I'll continue!
c!Phil enthusiasts, I hope I did you proud LMAO. It's my first forray into this side of tumblr 👉🏾👈🏾 I'm a lurker.
c!Phil antis, you can either act respectful or go argue with a wall. I got experience dealing with antis on Tumblr; I am immune to BS.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed. Signing off!

wait please tell me some knowledge abt random shit
Let me try and remember some non fandom related shit lmao
The director of the 1974 movie Black Christmas (a slasher movie in which the antagonist is tormenting sorority girls over the phone using lewd phrases as he kills them) also directed A Christmas Story and, I believe, Baby Geniuses. Bob Clark.
Porcelain/bisque dolls became so popular because the texture of biscuit porcelain (unglazed porcelain) was much closer to the texture of skin than glazed porcelain was
This is common knowledge I think but the actual Annabelle doll is a raggedy Anne doll! I think the movie series did an awful job with how Annabelle looks if I'm being honest.
There are many different types of angels described in the bible, so getting mad about "biblical angels" shows you don't really know what biblical angels are yourself. I believe Thrones are what people are usually talking about when they refer to biblical angels (I'm not Christian this could be somewhat wrong I'm just very interested in religion)
Speaking of, Christmas was originally a pagan holiday called Saturnalia and was dedicated to the god Saturn.
Christmas trees also have pagan origins, ppl would decorate their homes with branches of evergreen to essentially bring more color to the dreariness if winter and as a reminder of spring
(supposedly) the 23 Dr pepper flavors are: Cola, cherry, licorice, amaretto, almond, vanilla, blackberry, apricot, caramel, pepper, anise, sarsaparilla, ginger, molasses, lemon, plum, orange, nutmeg, cardamon, all spice, coriander, juniper, birch, and prickly ash
In Japan it's very common to get fried chicken for Christmas, especially kfc, and you generally have to get a reservation for it. Also a lot of people in Japan think Christmas is celebrated as Santas birthday and about 1% of Japan is Christian (a lot of this was told to me by my Japanese teacher)
A lot of people consider Blair witch project to be the first found footage movie but that's not true! Cannibal Holocaust is one of the first recorded found footage movies and the director was almost arrested over how graphic and realistic it was. I don't recommend looking it up if you're not okay with gore, ofc
One of the first horror was film was Le Manior du Diable (or in English, The Haunted Castle or The House of the Devil). Its three minutes long and came out in 1896
There's a fucking android they taught to paint. There's a humanoid robot who makes self portraits and people don't talk about it and it makes me freak out a little bit
That's everything that comes to mind when there's a lull in the conversation usually. Ofc a lot of what I think about is fandoms, namely tma, TazB, wwdits, wtnv, and a couple other things. I'm relisting to tma with my brother rn so I'm thinking about it q lot lmao

There's a character in a fandom that I write fanfic for (non-newsies..oops) and a lot of people hc him as being autistic. It makes sense, given a lot of his actions in the show and I agree! I sometimes write him with those same traits, but I'M not autistic and so I never tag him as such because it's not explicitly stated and I also don't have the experience to know "is this right?"
Is that... Okay? Or is there a different way you would reccomend handling things?
Since I dont know what fandom you're talking about, I can only go for my general opinion.
I don't think there's anything wrong with neurotypical people writing neurodivergent characters, as long as you do your research!
Talk to actual autistic people, be respectful, avoid stereotypes, TALK TO AUTISTIC PEOPLE. I'm cis, so while I don't really understand the experience of a trans person in regards to their gender, that doesn't mean I can't write a trans person going about their life. Trans people, autistic people, any groups you aren't a part of, it's okay to write about them, because... we're people, and so are you. We have a lot more in common than people like to think. I check with my irl best friend and make sure I'm not using any stereotypes, but other than that, I just write Racetrack as Racetrack. Him being trans is as foreign to me as him being a boy, and should I just stop writing boys?
One time, I casually included Racetrack taking off his binder in a fic, and that made readers really happy! Racetrack's gender is pretty much irrelevant to that story, so I only brought it up in passing, but that lets people feel seen! And more importantly, they get to see their identity as being a part of them as a human being, not their sole defining trait.
(Also it brings me great joy knowing that any transphobe who might have been reading along without me knowing has to live with the knowledge that they read over 40 chapters getting invested in a story of a boy going about his life and being loved before I randomly clarified, "oh yeah and he's trans")
That same story, I wrote David as autistic. This particular fic usually focuses more on Spot than David, and that's kind of why I did it. David isn't "Spot's autistic brother who he has to deal with," he's "Spot's brother who wont let him set things on fire and he has to deal with that."
Being autistic isn't David's entire personality any more than it is mine. Yes, I am autistic and that does affect how I interact with the world, but I'm also a science major, I paint and draw and I play with my dog. Those things are a part of me too.
In general, I think as long as you aren't writing about The Experience Of An Autistic Character In Regards To Them Being Autistic, you're probably good. Just be respectful, do your research, and basically, a good rule of thumb is that if your story can be compared to Sia's Music, you need to stop.
Tl;dr : autistic people are people, and just like with any group you aren't a part of, you should do your research, but it's totally cool to write about us! I love seeing autistic representation in stories 💛

Is the FF7 remake now making the Compilation non-canon?? My friend gave me these news and I don't know if it's genuine information.
(continues:) My friend hates this possibility. She loves Crisis Core, and having that become non-canon brings several concerns.
Thank you for your question!
A quick google search earned me no confirmation of this statement. But as a writer of FF7 fanfic writer/Sephiroth-roleplayer/Leiden university student of literature, I shall do my best to give you and educated and conclusive answer instead.
TL;DR: It’s unavoidable, and will have far-reaching implications for fandom community, but it will be OK and below’s why.
Tumblr media
What is canon? This definition of canon from here is what I will be using in this post:
Canon - a term borrowed from the Catholic Church, meaning ‘established truth’.  The definition of ‘canon’ is a bit vague, but is usually understood to mean the body of works upon which a fandom is based, and any information contained therein.  This is sometimes extended to include information in guidebooks, interviews, and other such sources.  Also used to refer to information from different versions of a story: for example, the school uniforms in Harry Potter ‘book-canon’ are different from those in ‘movie-canon’.
It is a way for the creators to indicate “this is the set of in-game truths and rules we are working with.” It’s a way to keep the rules that govern the world consistent. In Final Fantasy VII, one can either regard just the OG (original game) as canon, or the entire compilation as canon.
What happens if canon is made invalid?   This happened to the StarWars fandom. Around the first 6 films were novels, lego, books, fanarts, and fanfictions. This franchise is incredibly interesting because it does not make canon top-down (from the creators to the plebs), but also accepts work from fans (bottom-up).
An example: anyone could write a StarWars book, as long as they stuck so guidelines set by the official creators and had it checked for approval. Anyone could be a stormtrooper, as long as you used the exact right plastic moulds and sent pictures of the finished product to the official people who approved it. (My first boyfriend did this for his cosplay.)
Anyway, the novels continued the storyline after film six (I believe all the main characters had children). But when LucasFilms and Disney embarked on making the 7th film, they decided to throw all that worldbuilding (universe-building) away. Why did they throw it away? Because for legal reasons authors cannot read fan-fictions and this post explains why (link).     In short: if the script writers of film 7 were to base film 7 on an any canon work, a fan could claim “I wrote a fanfic about exactly this” and face huge legal charges. Even/Especially a franchise that has a very agreeable bottom-up treatment of canon and fandom culture, has to watch out. Rey from film 7 is a completely new character, with her own timeline.
THUS THERE IS A BIG CHANCE THE CANON OF THE COMPILATION OF FINAL FANTASY 7 WILL BE DECLARED INVALID.
In the past, how has FF7 fandom dealt with canon vs new canon? A long time ago, the Original Game (OG) was the 'mothership’. Sephiroth was portrayed as evil. To give him any sign of niceness in fanfiction was considered out-of-character and greatly discouraged. Then FFVII Cisis Core came out, and certain fans rioted against the game’s portrayal of a kind, awkward Sephiroth.
For the Final Fantasy VII Remake to be identical to the Original Game with updated graphics would be impossible. Such a game would not sell. There will be changes in the game mechanics, dynamics, aesthetics, and narrative to make the game contemporary. I feel two ways about those changes: frightened and joyous.
How does it relate to online FF7 fandom communities? Now our 'canon’ 'mothership’ is the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. Our current fandom community is built around what we have learnt of the compilation. Because FF7 is so big, it’s impossible to know everything about the story and characters and mechanics. People specialise, and draw on each other’s experience.
My area of specialisation is Sephiroth, with in-depth knowledge of his scenes in Advent Children Complete, Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Kingdom Hearts, and Original Game. I’m still learning about his Dissidia, Ehrgeitz, and other versions. This knowledge of this character and interpretation of this character gives me social merit in roleplay communities. It’s said if you put 1000 hours of work into learning something, you are an expert. I’ve been writing Sephiroth on and off since I was 14. I’m 26 now. In my niche, I am an expert. Fans ask me questions about Sephiroth because they trust me to provide a plausible answer that conflicts least with canon.
But if/when the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII will be declared invalid, social status based on the no-longer-canon Compilation will be rendered useless. This means that when I make a statement on Remake-Sephiroth, all my arguments based on experience of (years!) of development of my Sephiroth will be useless. Scary.
This will upset the social structures of the communities. Experts are no longer expert. With the release of the first episode/chapter of the Remake, new fans and old fans start learning at the same time about the 'new’ canon. They will have the same chance to become expert. The one fan who will put in enough hours, will get most social status, will be crowned expert.
Old groups of friends may stick together. New groups will form. New sub-communities rise. Some fans will riot against new information, as they did insisting that Crisis Core Sephiroth couldn’t be kind/awkward/friendly. More about attitudes and a ‘desired attitude’ later.
How can FF7 fans and roleplayers negotiate with old canon and new canon to find a position which they are comfortable with? The use of the word headcanon will go through a shift. 'Headcanon’ will no longer be a combination of traits/habits one puts on the character like a sticker (my trademark headcanon is that my Sephiroth puts his hair in a braid/my belief that Sephiroth follows the Jenova Omega Theory). Instead, the word 'headcanon’ will return to its old meaning: “In my head, this set of rules is canon.” The word 'headcanon’ will then refer to a set of metaphysical choices on how the FF7 world and characters function as a framework.
My friend @askcrv2 solved this question ingeniously. I’m taking a detour into the Vocaloid fandom: she writes a singing android robot. With robots, there are new versions every few years. The voice bank is updated. New songs. New merchandise… - and thus new canons. Nowadays version 4 is common. She writes version 2. She had her robot hide in a warehouse to avoid the garbage pile. This way, she can both stick to her old canons, but also in the new versions, her old version is still valid. Her robot complements new canon. Compliments to the writer!
The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII is fun, and I love it.It is not perfect. There are glaring inconsistencies. These plot holes could be changed in the Remake. But it’s not wrong to love the Final Fantasy VII from 1997 and style your preferences to that version.
IF/WHEN it’s made invalid… How do we as fans continue? When the Original Game and/or the Compilation as a whole be declared invalid, it will hurt. I will have to renegotiate my attitude towards Sephiroth as a character, and to the story as a whole, and find back my position in a new community.
This game has kept me captivated for many years, so I have high hopes for the future product. I expect that the managers/teams/designers of the company have improved with 20 years more of experience. The Remake is being re-made from scratch. I have respect for the game team’s hard work and sacrifices. I imagine that every change in the  ’new canon’ will be a thoroughly-debated decision. The promotional video (link) of the Remake reveals the attitude the game-makers would like to see in the fans:
The reunion at hand may bring joy, it may bring fear, but let us embrace whatever it brings. For they are coming back.
And that’s best of all. After 20 years, FF7 will be coming back. It’s not the fandom’s job anymore to re-create the world. The original creators will tell our favourite story back to us, and we can sit back… until we start making new fanworks!
Let’s embrace whatever it brings.
Let’s make fantastic fanworks, and build warm communities.
Tumblr media
The canon of the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 will never be a forgotten memory. The Compilation will live on, inside us. I hope this post sufficiently answers your question. Tell your friend not to worry.
