Gochiusa BLOOM episode 4 impressions
Tumblr media
Previously: episode 3, episode 2, episode 1
And now, episode 4. Last time we saw Chiya and Cocoa being put in charge of organising a “restaurant” for their class’s entry into the cultural festival. And it ends with them showing up at Rize and Sharo’s school and borrowing some “supplies”. At the start of episode 4 we go back in time to see what happened between those two events, as well as the cultural festival itself.
The episode opens with one of Cocoa’s classmates discussing a proposed arrangement of tables in the classroom, from the feng shui point of view. This traditional Chinese practice is often used in East Asia to create harmonious environment. In Japanese it’s called fūsui (風水). One of the main instruments is a compass (羅盤 raban), which can be seen placed on the table here:
Tumblr media
Like with a normal compass there are symbols for directions written around it. However it also includes Chinese zodiac and Celestial stem characters. Just so we don’t forget what show this is, the character for Rabbit zodiac sign is replaced by a pictogram. The flow of qi (or chi) energy is also discussed, which is one of the primary feng shui concepts.
Tumblr media
In the very next shot we see a bunch of Cocoa’s classmates gathered around the table. In anime it often happens that the main characters greatly stand out among their classmates by having original design and colorful hair. In fact in season 1 episodes 4 and 8 when Cocoa’s class is shown, that pretty much appears to be the case.
Tumblr media
However the new group of classmates we’re introduced to is different. Not only do they have colorful hair and unique design, but they also have names and different personalities. Moreover this story arc isn’t the last time they’re seen (at least in the manga). Some backstory for these characters is also revealed, such as Kano staying at carpenter’s house, and Class President having deep-seated issues because of failing to get into her preferred school.
Anyway, Cocoa and Chiya decide that the best way to decorate their “restaurant” is by borrowing the decorations from the other school. Apparently they had to defeat the clubs over there in various contests, including the blowgun club (with its president making only a background appearance this time). This is obviously a callback to season 2 episode 10 where Rize and Sharo also had to win various contests to reach their goal.
Tumblr media
The “spoils of war” include a bunch of masks that were previously seen decorating the blowgun club. I’m honestly not aware of any connection between fukiya and masks, but anyway, in a callback to an earlier feng shui scene we see classmate Anzu being aghast at the negative qi the mask seemingly emanates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We get a little "imagine spot” with the classmates imagining Rize and Sharo based on their descriptions, which are apparently quite scary. I thought it’s interesting how the question marks which in the manga were drawn on top of the characters silhouettes ended up being drawn directly on characters’ faces and being partially covered by hair. Spooky.
Tumblr media
We also see how the classmates imagine Cocoa and Chiya. Cocoa is seen as a “little sister” (much to her annoyance), while Chiya is seen as bancho (番長) which is the title of a leader of a group of juvenile delinquents, a surprisingly common character archetype despite the fact that this subculture hasn’t existed for decades. This is in contrast to Chiya imagining herself as shacho (社長), company president.  社 also means “society”, while a delinquent is basically the opposite of that.
Tumblr media
Also, what was up with this soup being prepared? I don’t think they even served it. Anyway, Cocoa and Chiya give invitations to the rest of the gang, and the official theme of the “restaurant” is revealed, which is Beer Hall! And more specifically, Oktoberfest. Now, as you probably know this is a huge beer festival held in Munich, Germany. Contrary to its name, it takes place mostly during late September, and ends on the first Sunday of October, so perhaps this is the time period when the episode happens. On the other hand, cultural festivals are usually held around  November 3rd (Culture Day) in Japan. So that’s another datapoint. On the third hand (?) we haven’t reached the Halloween episode yet so it’s probably not November.
Tumblr media
(yeah, this is the second gif of Cocoa and Chiya on fire, what about it)
Anyway, it’s the day of the Cultural Festival and we see all sorts of stalls set up by the other classes. Chino, who has never been there before(?) seems to be impressed by it all, while Rize seems to imply they don’t have events like this at her school. Chimame run off by themselves, which leaves Rize and Sharo on a date basically.
Soon Chimame come back, each carrying a beer mug (called Maß in German and “stein” in English) which contains what looks like beer, but is actually a very frothy apple juice. However note that in Japanese “juice” (ジュース) can mean any soft drink, so it might have been carbonated or something?
Tumblr media
Soon, a very scary person in a Tippy costume shows up, but it’s actually Cocoa and this is her idea of a “Tippy hat” which she mentioned earlier. Cocoa (and the rest of her class) wears a costume which could be previously seen on the cover of Memorial Blend, the season 1 Gochiusa guidebook. This is actually a traditional dress called dirndl which is worn in southern Germany and other countries around the Alps.
Tumblr media
The full menu can be briefly seen here and includes Apfelsaft (apple juice), Apfelwein (apple wine), Apfelsoda (apple soda, but pretty sure that’s not a real word) and Brezel (pretzel). No soup included. Also note Sharo being scared of the rabbit statue before this scene.
Anzu shows up again, this time doing a Tarot card reading. It seems she’s interested in all sorts of divinations. In response Chino does the same “much obliged for taking care of” greeting Chiya did to Karede Yura in the previous episode, while calling Cocoa dame-ane (ダメ姉 “no-good big sister”) in the process. It’s not very often that Chino calls Cocoa “big sister”, so Cocoa is very happy about that.
Tumblr media
Kano is seen bringing 5 full beer steins to the table. The standardized volume of one beer stein is 1 liter, which corresponds to 1kg of liquid. Together with the glass itself, total weight is about 2.5kg, or 5 pounds. The largest number of beer steins a single person has carried simultaneously is 29 (by Oliver Strümpfel). For a female, the record is 19 by Anita Schwarz. I didn’t expect Rize to win the armwrestling contest against Kano (in the manga it was ambiguous who won, or whether the contest even took place) but I guess being a CQC expert would help with that.
Tumblr media
Chimame, Rize and Sharo are convinced to try on the dirndls of Cocoa’s classmates, who then immediately bail, leaving Rize and others in the position of the waiters. However they happily take on the challenge, and even Aoyama and Rin join in. We also see the mysterious pretzel that was on the menu:
Tumblr media
Without Cocoa, there was nobody to call in new guests, but it turned out that Chino had more appeal wearing that Tippy headgear, so Chino bravely takes on this role for herself.
Tumblr media
This kind of dramatic shot is called “harmony processing” (ハーモニー処理) and comes from the time anime was cel-animated with the character cel being painted in to blend with the background cel. The most famous example of this technique is in the boxing anime Ashita no Joe.
Eventually Cocoa, Chiya, Rize and Sharo get to leave their post and explore the school, all wearing Cocoa’s school uniforms, and have a good time. They imagine how it would’ve been if they were all classmates (even Rize who is technically a year older, but if her birthday was not in February but in April she’d be in the same class as the others).
Tumblr media
Just like the last episode’s title, the title of this episode あったかもしれない日常 is reused from the manga, namely the chapter 12 of volume 5. It basically means “the everyday life that could have been”, and refers specifically to the alternate timeline where Rize, Sharo, Chiya and Cocoa are classmates.
Tumblr media
More importantly, Chino gets to see what it looks like, and it might be the final push she needs to decide which school she would join (although there are many scenes hinting towards it throughout the episode). Chino even manages to get a photographer to preserve the memory of this moment. She wasn’t brave enough to ask for it directly, so she puts on the Tippy headgear to do it. A funny difference from the manga though, is that in the anime Tippy (to his horror) gets covered up by it, instead of staying on top of it like before.
Tumblr media
After the festival, there’s a mostly anime-original scene where Chino pretty much announces her decision to Maya and Megu. With Chino’s statement “I have decided” I can’t help but recall the lyrics of the ending theme
決めちゃいます ○ですから問題なーい (We’ll decide. Because we’re <blank> it’ll be ok.)
With the placeholder ○ standing for “Chimame-tai”, of course.
Which brings up a question: when does Chino tell Maya and Megu she has chosen Cocoa’s school in the manga? I can’t find it at all. Seems like they already know by vol.6 ch.7...
Tumblr media
After the ED there’s another short scene of Chino sneaking in Cocoa’s room to imagine how her uniform will look on her. Interestingly, this is based on 4-koma from chapter 13, making this the first episode this season to adapt content from 3 different chapters. Makes me wonder how they’ll adapt the rest of chapter 13 because this reveal is at the end of it, and some scenes rely on Cocoa not knowing Chino’s decision. But I guess we’ll see in the next episode.
Anyway, thanks for reading, see you next week!

Karma’s a Bitch - pt 2
Tumblr media
Part 1    Part 2     Part 3     Part 4    Part 5    Part 6    Part 7     Part 8
Summary: Closure. That’s what you needed to finally forget that memory of your past. A memory that shaped you into becoming the person you are today. Perhaps you wouldn’t find closure, but instead closure in the form of a boy would find you.
Pairing: Jimin x female reader x Jungkook (?)
WC: 1.7K
Warnings: Low self esteem
A/N: Hi! So I decided to post part 2 earlier than expected. Hope you enjoy it!
* - * - * - * - *
Part 2
It’s been about eight weeks since you started the semester and because of it you had to change your training schedule to mornings instead of evenings. You quite enjoyed the morning atmosphere and started making new friends with people that trained at those hours. You even became friends with one of the youngest instructors, Jungkook, who looked like he had a similar age to yours and was even fitter than other personal trainers. You were curious as to how he could be working there at such a young age, and when you asked him, he told you that he was in third year of his career and that he was just an intern. He even went to the same university as you, yet his school was far away from yours. You found him pretty friendly to say the least, and he even told you that when he finished his internship, he would become your gym partner. You actually liked the idea since you felt you were getting stuck with your performance and having a gym partner like him would certainly encourage you to do better. Turning to leave, you told Jungkook you would start your routine and leave him to do his job, yet you bumped into a well-defined chest. Thinking it was probably one of those cocky gym guys due to the seductive smell he emanated, you apologized and without looking up went straight to one of the benches to start with bench press. You heard the guy saying something to Jungkook, but you couldn’t quite hear what their conversation was about, and you didn’t really care.
Since this week you had to add more weight to each exercise, you started by adding 2.5kg to your already loaded 12.5kg base. You were somewhat nervous since you have never accomplished to lift so much weight, and even though you could ask Jungkook for help, you didn’t want to cross paths with the other guy. You positioned yourself on the bench and aligned your hands with the bar, and breathing deeply, you took out the bar from its hook and started doing the repetitions. You managed to do the 10 repetitions from 3 of you 4 sets, and you were now about to start the last and probably hardest repetition. Taking a big amount of air into your lungs, you took the bar from the hook and started lifting it up and down with each repetition. That was until you reached your eight one and your hands gave away. The bar fell hurtfully on your chest.  You knew you had to scream, but the impact of the weight in your chest took all your air away. You knew everyone was in their own business and probably no one noticed you were being suffocated, yet not 10 seconds have passed when a pair of toned arms lifted the bar and placed it on the hook. To recover your lost air, you breathed deeply and then slowly tried sitting down on the bench. Looking back, you saw that the owner of those toned arms was a handsome young boy with ebony dark hair. He was one of the hottest guys you’ve ever seen, yet you have never seen him in the gym, you would have remembered him. You were about to thank him when he spoke with the sweetest voice you have heard in your life.
“Are you alright?” he said with an expression showing concern.
“Yeah…thanks… you know, for literally saving me.”
“I wouldn’t say saving you, but if that’s how you see it then cool” he said somewhat… flustered?
“No, seriously! I thought I would die from suffocation! Thank you so much!”
“Yeah, I thought that too. I ran as fast as I could when I saw the bar fell on you and did what anyone would have done.”
“I’m actually glad you noticed. I thought no one would notice and that I would die” you laughed a little bit, thinking on what could have happened if no one have aided you.
“Who wouldn’t notice such a beautiful girl like you?” the boy said with a smirk on his face.
You were taken aback by his remark, yet you couldn’t deny you liked his flirting. About to answer, your attention was caught by Jungkook, who was running towards you and upon arriving, squatted in front of your sitting figure. “Are you okay? Are you hurt in any way?” he asked, clearly worried.
“I’m fine, Jungkook. I was lucky enough to be saved by this gentleman right here” you said while directing your left hand towards the guy that saved you. He again looked embarrassed and scratched the back of his head with his right hand.
“Wow. Thanks, Jimin! It could have been bad if no one helped her. I tried to get here as fast as possible when a lady came and told me an accident happened to a girl using the bench press. I knew it was Y/N since she was the only one doing this exercise.”
“No big deal, really! It was the decent thing to do” Jimin answered, looking between Jungkook and you. Jungkook turned his gaze on you once more and told you that next time, you should ask him for help to finish your last set. You replied you most likely will do so. With that, Jungkook stood up and went to help an old lady that was waiting for him. When your gaze fell back again on the handsome guy, you had the sensation he never took his gaze from you. He was intently looking at you, so you decided to say something before it became awkward.
“So… thank you, really” you smiled a little.
“Anytime! I hope you didn’t get hurt,” he said truthfully, “Well.. I should probably head back to finish my sets of deadlift.”
“Right… See you around!” you replied enthusiastically yet feeling a little disappointed.
“Sure thing!” with that he winked and left to the other side of the room, but not without looking one or two times back at you. Your cheeks were hot, but you suppressed any feeling by reminding yourself you had to keep training. Since you were doing “arm day,” you had to do a lot of exercises that required your arms and hands, but with the incident you seemed to have sprained you right wrist. You saw no use in staying, so you decided to go home after telling Jungkook about your situation, to which he gave you recommendations in order to recover. Walking home, you couldn’t help but to feel excited for the new encounter you made today. Tons of thoughts about him made way to your head, yet you didn’t seem to remember his name. The pretty boy didn’t introduce himself, but since Jungkook mentioned his name, you tried to remember even his initial. Not getting anywhere with your thoughts, you just decided to make your way home. Why bother anyways? Being a 12 out of 10, pretty boy will probably not talk to you again. As he said, he did what anyone would do in his position, and even though you registered his flirting, he probably said what he usually says to other girls. Deciding to leave it at that, you entered your apartment and went straight to the bathroom to take a bath, so you took your clothes off and once again looked at your reflection. “I wish I could love myself” you whispered before entering the bathtub and slowly sinking into the hot water.
* - * - * - * - *
Jimin finished his last set of deadlift, and immediately looked for the girl. How could he miss his chance of asking her name?! He grew more disappointed when she was nowhere to be seen, and he worried she might actually have been injured. Seeing Jungkook in his usual spot, he approached him to get some information out of him.
“Hey, Jungkook. Do you perhaps know where the girl from earlier went?” he asked directly.
“What girl? “Jungkook asked innocently but knowing perfectly what Jimin was talking about.
“Come on! You know… the girl that had the accident?”
“Oh, you mean Y/N? She left since her wrist hurt.”
‘Maybe she sprained her wrist, ’Jimin thought to himself. Knowing how to deal with injuries, he could use that in the future to get close to her. He didn’t miss Jungkook mentioning her name, so he decided to ask more out of him.
“That girl, Y/N, seems to know a lot about technique. I wonder how she could got hurt.”
“Well yeah. Being a customer for so long, you may wonder that, but that can happen to anyone. Besides, from what she told me, she had to add extra weight today, and even though she was handling it perfectly, the last set is usually the hardest one.”
“Yeah you are right. It probably was that. I hope she didn’t get hurt badly.”
“Nah! She is a strong girl. Sometimes I wonder how she doesn’t faint form training so hard. From what I know, she’ll probably come tomorrow being her wrist better or not.” Jungkook smiled proudly, making Jimin feeling a little jealous of Jungkook’s closeness to Y/N. He even started to question their relationship.
“You seem to know her well” Jimin said in a monotonous tone.
“Well not so much if I’m being honest. She used to train in the evenings when I had the same time schedule, but luckily when they changed my shifts to mornings, her schedule also changed to mornings too, so we kind of became close,” Jungkook nodded to himself while Jimin frowned a little wondering if that change in schedule was a coincidence. He let those thoughts wander off his mind for later since he now had some information of Y/N, and he would use it to his favor not minding if Jungkook was in his way or not. Thinking of a way to smoothly end the conversation, Jimin told Jungkook he should probably go to do some cardio to which Jungkook replied with a nod and a pat on his back.
What Jimin didn’t realize was that Jungkook noticed his new interest in Y/N. Jungkook knew guys like Jimin all too well, and he wondered if he was just interested in Y/N’s appearance or in her essence. His thoughts were interrupted by a boy who asked him to explain some exercises to him. Walking towards a bench, Jungkook focused on his job once again.
A/N: Tell me what you think so far!

First time back at the gym after my trip to New York.
Just a few minutes after I arrived, some guy approached me and asked “if you need me to show you what all the different machines do”.
Before my trip, I was going to that gym five to six days a week. For six weeks.
I said no, I was psyching myself up to start the lifting regime I’d been preparing for. He said “don’t worry, start slow!” and gestured to the pile of 0.5-2.5kg weights. When I smiled weakly and picked up the 20kg ones, he got behind me to spot me without asking, and when my form wavered, he put his arms on my sides. Without asking. He said a quick “sorry!”, but then carried on doing it. I’m pretty sure one of his wrists touched my boob at some point, too.
Later, a woman who’s been powerlifting for like, years, came in and went over to move the equipment into place for her bench press. Some other dude came up to her to “help”, and I didn’t hear what he said, but I heard her say “no thank you”, then “it’s alright, I’ve done it a million times. It’s alright!”
I went up to him a minute later and asked him if he would have offered to help if a man had come in. He didn’t hear me properly at first, and seemed to think I was telling him to go over and help her. I beckoned him back and repeated the question.
“Of course! I would help anyone who was new,” he said. “She’s not new. She’s been coming here for months,” I replied. “Well, I haven’t seen her.” “Well, she has been coming here for months. “Hm. I’ve never seen her.”
Next time I come to the gym and it’s full of men, I’m going to keep my headphones in.

Type 1 weight loss
I've gained 16kg since I was diagnosed almost two years ago now(!).A lot of that was simply gaining what I'd lost in those last few weeks before I went to my doctor. I've tried shake diets, calorie counting and insane amounts of exercise (that sends me low). The only way that I've actually been able to lose weight is by restricting my carbs in an extreme way. The problem is I couldn't maintain this. After the first three days I'd start to crave carbs like crazy. In the last year I've been flirting with the ketogenic lifestyle. I'd try it when I was on school holidays and I'd feel amazing. Then I'd go away somewhere and fall off the wagon. So this time I've started during the school term. My bff is travelling around Europe and she's the only person I ever really go out to eat with. I talked my mother into letting me fry eggs in the morning if I scrub down the kitchen afterwards. I got motivated by making a Pinterest board that I look at every morning before I get up. After 7 days I'd lost 2.5kg (water weight). I'm on day 9 and I've lost another 0.5kg. I feel good and I can see myself sticking with this for a longer time now. But the very best thing about it is my sugars are great. My highest reading in 7 days is 8.3 and that is from a day at the start. Now I might get up to 7.7. I sleep all through the night without checking at all and my sleep is quality rest. I have more energy. I no longer feel the physical, emotional and mental exhaustion that diabetes causes me. Even if this isn't for life, it sure is an amazing holiday.

For Hwanghon
fill out the questions about your muse, repost, and tag as many people as you want.
1. what does your muse smell like?
a mixture of incense smells.  some days Hwanghon might smell of the earth and others she might smell of the mountains.  she is a child of nature & as such, she really loves any smell that can connect her to mother nature.  when she’s a little tired though, she honestly simply takes a shower and lets her body wash (a mixture of cotton candy and vanilla) do all the work.
2. how often does your muse bathe? any bathing habits?
regular showers, but on long and arduous days, Hwanghon allows herself time to soak at the closest spa.  there are no major rituals, but when at the spa, she does often allow herself time to sit in a hot room as well.  she views this as allowing all of the bad and negative energy to seep its way out of her system.
3. does your muse have any tattoos or piercings?
just her ears and her belly button.  she has always just been a little too scared to something permanent.  maybe someday a friend will be able to convince her to commemorate a life event.
4. any body movement quirks (e.g. leg shaking)?
Hwanghon has a habit of chewing on her pen tips and when she doesn’t realize it, she tends to chew her bottom lip, often leaving a red mark that slowly fades through the evening.
5. what do they sleep in?
as girly as it may sound, Hwanghon is one for wearing cute things to bed.  she has a collection of nightgowns and sleeper sets in satin.
6. what is their favorite piece of clothing?
the only piece of clothing she treasures above all others is a blue skirt with gold embellishments.  luckily it is incredibly well made and has lasted the test of time.  hopefully if it ever comes to it, she can simply get someone to recreate the skirt.
7. what do they do when they wake up?
after turning her alarm off, she does a few light exercises, mostly aimed at keeping her arms a bit toned.  she runs on her off days, but when she doesn’t have time for that, just a little bit of weight lifting (nothing more than 2.5kg at a time) to get her adrenaline pumping and wake her up.  afterwards comes the shower, tooth brushing and light make up routine.  once all that good ol stuff it out of the way, she dresses for the day and heads out to take on the world.
8. how do they sleep?
after powering down for the night, aka drinking some chamomile tea and doing some relaxation exercises, Hwanghon likes to simply turn on some calming music and lay back and let herself drift off.
on nights when she can’t sleep, she tends to watch documentaries until she passes out.
9. what do their hands feel like?
as someone who runs slightly anemic at times, Hwanghon has a problem with poor circulation at times.  when this happens, her fingertips can sometimes be like icicles and because of that sometimes people make fun of her.
10. if you kissed them, what would they usually taste like?
she would hope something memorable.  that her kiss would be the last thing her partner remembers before they go to sleep and the first thing they think of when they wake. sadly though, her kiss probably just tastes like her bubblegum toothpaste or like the maple candy treats she likes to eat imported from America.

My Gym Rules by Peta
I don't think that anyone I know would characterise me as OCD.
In any way.
At all.
Ever.
At time of writing I have 3785 unread emails, and I admit to being the progenitor of our recent clinic chat "You can wash your hair with dishwashing liquid but you can't wash dishes with shampoo." (the residue just doesn't rinse off and it ends up making food taste like Jojoba or Desert Oasis or one of those other beauty product words we all pretend to understand. You're welcome.)
However ... I do get a bit twitchy in the gym. I just like things done a certain way - and I could be wrong here but I don't think I'm alone. So for the purpose of this blog I am appointing myself as chief spokesperson for The Society for People Who Are Annoyingly Particular About Gym Stuff But Not Necessarily Other Stuff. Membership is free.
Our charter applies exclusively to gyms that you may have to share. If you have a home gym then feel free to watch the world burn. But if there's a chance that someone else may enter, these are our terms:
Use the smallest possible number of plates.
Load the heaviest plates closest to the centre.
Put them back where they go, neatly and in order. (When the Society gets a crest, this will be translated into Latin and overlaid on a flaming banner held up by furious baby angels.)
One more thing: use matching sets. ie: if your gym has some yellow 15kg plates and some that are black - don't just grab one of each. If you want the #liftscience : different manufacturers may make plates that are ever-so-slightly different in weight, width or diameter, which would lead to your barbell being imperceptibly unbalanced. The real reason is by taking an unmatched set you are inflicting that eyesore on everyone in the area, and also potentially forcing someone else to use an unmatched set as well.
I'm aware of how petty it sounds but honestly it's enough to disrupt our AGM... if we had one.
Now, the exceptions:
Obviously if there’s not enough plates for everyone in the gym or you’re doing a workout that involves sharing a barbell or limited changeover time then you have to improvise and break some rules.
And sometimes it's cool to chuck small plates on each end as you go - for instance you might want to add a 5kg to a 15kg plate to make up 20kg, if you're going to end up with 25kg plates on there by the next set. However, try to avoid doing your working sets with 5kg plates, if you can - the lighter plates are often in shortest supply and someone else might need them. Also some 5 kilos are made differently to other plates and are not suited to being dropped on the floor.
However, NEVER EVER: End up with more than one 5kg at each end. Or 2.5kgs. Or to a lesser extent 10kgs. The only plates it's totes OK to double/triple up are 20kg and 25kg. So you don't need to have more than one of any plate until you get to a hundo kegs, big dog.
To conclude with a working example, here are our options for loading a 20kg bar up to 60kg:
OPTIMAL = 1x20kg at each end
ACCEPTABLE = 1x15 + 1x5kg at each end
SHADY =  2x10kg at each end
NOT COOL = 1x10k + 2x5kg at each end.
GTFO =  1x20kg at one end, 1x10kg + 2x5kg at the other
Let me know what you think in the comments ... or if you wanna fight I’m at Unit 11, 3 Bromham Place, Richmond on Mondays, Thursdays and every second Friday.
Peta works as our Head Remedial Therapist and S & C Coach. She’s in the VIC state team for Surfboat Rowing and owns the world record for the 1km Ergo at 30-39yrs Female category. She can also hipthrust 200kgs. You can book in with her at Evolutio here

My name is Courtney, I'm 18 and i live in NSW, Australia. There's not too much to say about myself, I work in a service station and live with my boyfriend and his parents (trying desperately to move out). I weigh about 90kgs (198.4lbs) and I'm not very happy with how I feel not only emotionally but physically as well. I puff when I walk up stairs/hills and I feel tired and sore all the time, I'm just so sick of it.
I've tried diets and all that crap but I always saw it as 'okay as soon as I lose this weight I can go back to eating a block of chocolate and a packet of chips in one sitting' and for me to think like that it was guaranteed to fail. So of course I would go back to sitting up till 3am eating chocolate and drinking redbulls.
I have finally realised that being healthy and fit doesn't mean dieting and exercising for a couple months and then just go back to old habits. It means changing your whole aspect on food and changing your day around just to fit in that half hour walk sesh. I have only had this field of view for about three weeks now but I feel so much better about myself, I've been walking everyday (and trying to throw in a jog every now and then, gotta admit though that I have missed a few due to rain and well just laziness but shh, I'll get there) and I can now walk up some hills without losing my breath and for me that's just amazing.
Now the problem with working in a service station is that we don't have many healthy options. We have a shit tonne of bad foods and hot pies and fried food (which has actually been making me feel sick from the smell lately which is a positive) and it is very hard especially on the days that I work nights. I'm not very good with preparing meals earlier but again, is a working progress.
I know I should stay off the scales but It's so intriguing to know if I've made any progress (my boyfriends mum says she can see change in my stomach and I'm down two belt holes already so that feels pretty good) and in the first two weeks I have already lost 2.5kgs (5.5lbs) and I feel AMAZING.
I have more energy and I'm tired earlier (yet I still manage to stay up till 3am (dont know why)) I've been drinking a lot of water lately which before I was only drinking a max of two cups a day which is horrible. I just need more practise waking up earlier (as I said I work nights so I usually don't get home till about 1am) and eating breakfast and preparing meals for lunch instead of eating fruit for lunch.
I'm slowly turning myself into a vegetarian (it's hard in this house cause all we eat is chicken) and I'm looking forward to finding more food out there that can benefit me in everyway.

My arms are still killing me after my inaugural attempts to do press-ups.
I just looked in my cupboard and I’m 100% sure that anything currently contained within a jam jar is safe and secure from my lascivious culinary appetites. It’s annoying because I’d really like a gherkin – but they’re just gonna have to wait.
They don’t know how close they came to oblivion, the lucky little pickled b******s.
I’m unperturbed however. My walk up and along the Malvern hills took around four days to wear off but I felt utterly fab when it had.
Despite my current malady however I still executed on the promise I made to myself and popped out to my nearby Argos to buy the dumbbells I mentioned in my last post (via Starbucks of course, as no-one needs to be unnecessarily hasty on a Bank Holiday Sunday morning.)
The first thing that struck me was that the box was (with all the bits in) 20kg. This seems blindingly obvious as I type it (particularly as I was buying a 20kg set of dumbbells) but I don’t often hold this kind of weight in my arms. It’s REALLY REALLY HEAVY, and I had to lay it on top of a nearby bin while I opened the boot of my car.
It actually translates to 3st 2lbs.
I hadn’t made this pounds and ounces connection in my mind when I handed my debit card to the lady at the checkout – and I now realise that everywhere I went before I started losing weight I had four and a half of these boxes with me.
As I suspect is common with many people who buy these kinds of things I appear to have purchased something that (at least with all the weight discs on) I’m not yet strong enough to make the most of. My hope however is that with time this will get easier and I’ll be able to do more and more – eventually being able to do pull-ups as well as proper press-ups.
Today isn’t that day though.
I took all but the 2.5kg discs off both of the dumbbells and tried 20 reps on each arm doing bicep curls. After several breaks I also did several other variations to work different muscle groups – particularly chest and triceps.
How should I describe how my arms feel right now?
Hmmm.
I think I’m going to go with…
‘Ow. Ow. Ow. Owwwwww.’
Old cramp has joined forces with new cramp and it’s clear that there’s a LOT of room for improvement here. It’s going to take a while to tone my upper body – but my mission to banish both boy boobs and bingo wings has started!!!!
I also took a leaf out of a fellow Slimming World member’s book today. I told her yesterday that I looked ‘like Babar the elephant had developed epilepsy’ when I danced and that because of this it was unlikely I would be engaging in any dancing in the future.
On reflection that was a silly thing to say.
She reminded me that it was a bad idea to close yourself off to possibilities. I still do this a lot (despite trying not to) and honestly my first knee jerk response to such things is often rooted in a somewhat warped perception of who I am now vs who I was.
Old Davey said ‘no’ to pretty much everything mostly because of hidden fears regarding mobility and embarrassment.
Current Davey occasionally has to be reminded of that from time to time – so I thank her for the gentle verbal kick in the boy parts and the opportunity to re-think my stance on this subject.
My contemplation on the matter resulted in me filling my exercise ring for the day. I did this whilst dancing in my kitchen as I cooked breakfast in the morning, making a salad at lunchtime for my dinner and finally preparing a chilli later in the day for my evening meal.
At times (thanks in no small part to ‘Duck Sauce – Barbara Streisand’ on repeat while my pork mince sizzled with paprika and seasoning) I noticed my pulse getting up to 120bpm.
It has to be said though that this spirited twirling proved to be rather incompatible with chopping coriander with a razor sharp kitchen devil knife, and I think I will instead dismember herbs during quiet contemplation in the future.
Either that internet or I will need to invest in significantly more plasters…
Now if you will excuse me I am re-visiting a favourite film of mine. The Grand Budapest Hotel (IMDB). If you’ve not seen it I highly recommend you seek it out. It’s pretty wonderful.

Julia Jack Sam Lars Johnson – 2 month old male and female Ibizan Hound (Podenco) Cross
Julia Jack Sam Lars Johnson are 2 month old male and female Ibizan Hound (Podenco) Cross. Five beautiful little puppys saved from a cave in Spain, 4 boys and one tiny girl. So loving, affectionate, and happy. They will grow to medium size. Their mum is a small Podenco (approx. 15 kg), she gave birth in a hole in a hill. A Spanish lady has been feeding and checking them every day until they were big enough to be separated. As their mum is very timid unfortunately she was not able to bring her home too, but the lady will keep trying.
They are all happy playful puppies, they have not been traumatised at all. The female Julia is the smallest. She weights 1.5kg at the moment. Julia likes to explore. Jack weighs around 2.5kg. Jack the black white and brown male has longer legs and a tinier body. He´ll be the biggest of them all but I guess will remain small to medium dog.
Jack has a soft nature. Sam the black and brown male has slightly longer legs, he weighs around 2.5kg. Sam just follows the rest Lars is the most shy pup, he has a gorgeous little pink nose, he also weighs around 2.5kg. His legs are shorter and he will probably remain a fairly small dog.
Johnson is a lovely tan colour like his brothers he weighs around 2.5kg. he has shorter legs and will probably remain smallish but no guarantee! Johnson is very brave. Current location is in a foster home in Spain can travel to the UK once they have a home to and they are over 4 months old.
Fosterer’s report: Very sweet little things, they all stick together. They get on well with the other dogs here and are just learning how to play with toys. Vaccinated, wormed, flea treated, too young to be neutered but this must be done when they are old enough, microchipped and has a Pet Passport.
Adoption Fee: £ 265 – to be paid direct to the Spanish rescue to cover travel costs.

MIKEY’S PERSONAL BLOG 38, February 2017
On Monday morning, Mum and I went down to the pools at YMCA Casey ARC in Narre Warren. I’ve been avoiding this moment for so long, exposing my semi-naked body in a public space like an indoor swimming pool. My feelings of self-consciousness and embarrassment about the way I look stem back to primary school when I was still doing swimming lessons. I remember my report card saying “Still a Yabby” in the comments section which basically meant that I was a really weak, hesitant swimmer.
Today my anxious mind was trying hard to rear its ugly head when I walked out of the changing rooms with my shirt stripped off. I was mostly worried about getting harsh, judgmental glances at my flabby overweight body but in reality, everyone was just doing their own thing. I started out in the shallow end of the play pool to gain some confidence in the water. It really wasn’t too bad once I got used to it.
Next Mum and I had a dip in the wave pool which was heaps of fun. It didn’t really bother me that I was surrounded by kids, parents and disabled people because we were all enjoying jumping up with the hydro-generated waves. We also went into the spa pool. The high pressure jets on the edges of the spa were excellent in relieving some of my joint pain through the lower back and hips. I also gave the stream room and sauna a go but they were pretty unbearable for me so I left these after a couple of minutes. http://www.caseyarc.ymca.org.au/dis...
On Monday night, I went to my Hatha Flow yoga class at Just Be Yoga and Meditation in Beaconsfield. It was a welcome surprise to see that Natarsha Krug was instructing this class tonight as Michelle was away. We began the class by doing some flowing Bridge pose and Cat-Cow pose. We also did several different twists including Half Lord of the Fishes pose and Revolved Lunge pose plus some lovely side stretches and a Flowing Sequence (Downward Facing Dog, Low Lunge, Plank, Cobra/Seal/Updog, Standing Forward Bend, Mountain Pose).  http://www.yogajournal.com/category...
On Tuesday afternoon, my parents and I attended the funeral of Lillian Faye Watson held at Bunurong Memorial Park in Dandenong South. Lillian or Faye as she liked to be called was mum’s aged care patient through Wesley Mission. Mum took her out to many different social outings including Morning Melodies and coffee dates. Faye really enjoyed ballroom dancing, music and lawn bowls. She was a really special lady and will be truly missed by the family.
The funeral service was conducted at the Cumulus Reflection Space with a beautiful collection of photos displayed at the front. The gardens surrounding the space are elegantly designed featuring weathered paving, a stone waterfall, rusted screening panels and lush desert plants. It was really hard knowing what to say considering I don’t really know Faye’s family that well but I’m glad that I came along to pay my respects.
On Thursday morning, I attended my Body Balance class at YMCA Casey ARC in Narre Warren. Our instructor Wendy was patient and encouraging as always saying “It’s okay to wobble or fall out of a pose” and “Remember to come down a level if it’s too much” which is reassuring because I was really struggling with my balancing and core strength exercises.
Today we did the following exercises: Tai Chi Warm up (Soft Block, Flowing Energy Ball, Arm Swings), Sun Salutation (Forward Fold, Downward Facing Dog, Low Lunge, Plank), Yoga Balancing (Chair pose, Aeroplane, Tree pose) and Pilates (Side Lying Legs, Bridge pose, Toe Taps). https://www.lesmills.com/workouts/f...
Around midday, I had my first session with my new counselor Rachel Joll at Piece Together Counselling in Narre Warren. I was a little early so I decided to have a sandwich and cafe at Cafe42six next door to calm my nerves. I always seem to work myself up whenever I’m seeing a new therapist for the first time because it’s fear of the unknown. I don’t know what to expect from them and I also don’t want to make a fool of myself.
Rachel was very bubbly, warm and friendly when I walked into the room. Her office space was decked out with comfy sofas, brightly coloured fabrics, sunset photography and soft timber furnishings. It was as far from a clinical environment as you could get which did put me at ease. Talking about my childhood issues was still really difficult for me. I really didn’t know when my anxiety started or what set it off but I knew it was around high school.
Rachel picked up on the fact that I kept repeating the phase “I’m really not good at connecting with other people” which is a false negative belief that I have within myself. I think it’s because I’m feeling quite withdrawn and socially isolated lately and that I put myself down a lot. I really need to change my mindset to more positive thinking and change my current beliefs that I have which is what I’ll be working on this year. http://www.piecetogethercousellingnarrewarren.org/...
In the afternoon, I dropped into my local Chemist Warehouse in Narre Warren to buy my first weight loss shakes. Walking down the aisle, I was absolutely overwhelmed with the choices. I had a few ideas as to which one I wanted to get but of course I kept being indecisive and began comparing prices and nutrition values. I really wanted to avoid the ones that were high in sugar and carbs but I didn’t want to spend a fortune either. So I decided to try out Bioglan Nutri Slim Ultra Low Sugar Shakes and bought a 500g tub of it which should hopefully last me a couple of weeks. http://www.bioglan.com.au/nutrislim...
On Friday morning, I attended my Body Pump class at YMCA Casey ARC in Narre Warren. It’s been quite a few weeks since I’ve been to one of these classes and I’ve been meaning to go but of course life gets in the way sometimes. Today I tackled release 100 which was an exhausting 10 tracks long. At least our instructor Kerry was trying to make light of how tough this class was by cracking jokes. “Now you’re gonna ask me if there’s any recovery breaks on this track...Nope!”
We started off with the warm-up track incorporating several reps of single rows plus clean and press. Next we did a full six-minute track of weighted resistance squats. Boy did these kill me. I wisely decided to use light 2.5kg plates for this. The benchpress sections were also quite  tough especially with several reps of 8 pulses and also having to do push ups in between. We also used the barbells for a couple of tracks. Again I chose the light green 2kg weights as I didn’t want to overdo it. It was a very intense class but I managed to push through it.  https://www.lesmills.com/workouts/f...
