Chihayafuru Thoughts - How Taichi feels about Arata
The relationship between these two has always been fascinating to me. While the base of their relationship is definitely friendship, they also harbor complicated feelings toward each other. I’m not really going to focus on the romantic “rivalry” they have, although there are instances where that’s a factor. I’ll be using examples from all over the manga so here’s the spoiler warning.
Taichi definitely feels insecure and inadequate in comparison to Arata. The glasses incident is something he thinks of many times throughout the story (in Fukui, at the Yoshino tournament, when he tells Chihaya the truth, etc.) and it’s clear that Arata calling him a coward has led him to try to change that aspect of himself, hence Taichi’s line “I wanna be someone who doesn’t run away”. However, Arata’s karuta prowess also amazes and scares Taichi. Taichi feels as though Arata plays at a level that he himself could never reach, no matter how much time or effort he puts in, and he feels left behind (by Chihaya as well for that matter). There are certain scenes where this is apparent and it reminds me of what Taichi said about Emuro; that he “drew a line” based on their ability, something Taichi seems to do to himself as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is also why Taichi has at times thought that Arata is more beneficial to Chihaya’s growth in karuta than he could be. He thinks of himself as lacking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This insecurity around Arata occasionally causes him to lash out, muttering Arata is his enemy or feeling flustered at the idea of Arata making a team.
Tumblr media
This line, following “Chihaya wants to be on a team with you again, but I don’t”, seems more about how Taichi doesn’t want to play with Arata because he doesn’t want to feel useless next to him like when they were kids (a similar feeling to how Desktomu felt at regionals in their first year). He wants to keep improving and meet Arata as an equal, and he doesn’t see an avenue to that if they played on the same team or if Arata was around more often.
Tumblr media
I’ve seen this scene interpreted as Taichi saying this because the team is something Taichi has in relation to Chihaya that Arata doesn’t, but my view is a bit different. To me, this scene has always been about the fact that Taichi has gained a certain confidence in team matches (being the leader, prioritizing the team winning over his individual win, etc). Part of this confidence probably comes from the fact that Arata doesn’t play on a team, and thus Taichi doesn’t have to use him as a point of comparison, and that confidence would most likely be destroyed if Arata made a team. To Taichi it feels like the one area of katura that he hasn’t had to worry about Arata in is being threatened, hence why he says something snarky.
Tumblr media
Then there’s also the feelings of jealousy that he harbors due to Chihaya’s attachment (oftentimes near idolization) to Arata. Taichi’s love for her often causes him pain because she would bring Arata up a lot and very clearly acknowledged him, whereas Taichi never felt like he was enough as he was and part of him longed for Chihaya to “see” him as well. He seems to think the qualities that Arata has are among those that Chihaya seems to notice in people (and for a while he’s not entirely wrong, karuta freak that she is) and that he himself lacks them. That probably lends itself as to why he seems very touched whenever Chihaya does see him (offering a towel, caring so much about him making Class A, Yoshino, the Taichi Cup, etc.).
However, it’s also clear that Taichi respects and admires Arata as a player and values him as a friend. He cries when Arata returns, calls him for advice after feeling entirely dejected, supports him after Arata defeats him and becomes the Meijin challenger, etc. Taichi just has parts of him that view Arata more negatively and he actively points that out to himself. He uses phrases like “it’s not Arata’s fault” because he understands it’s not Arata himself but rather some of the feelings he’s attached to Arata that make him feel the way he does. However Taichi also accepts some of the negative sentiment he holds for Arata and the rivalry he feels toward him. His feelings toward Arata are well summed up when Taichi says to himself, “I’m happy when I forget you, but I’m encouraged when I remember you”. It’s complicated, and the matches he and Arata played at the Meijin challengers were a nice exploration into how they view each other. Those matches culminated in a nice moment where they realize despite any complicated feelings, they’re grateful to each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, that was rather long even though I feel like I didn’t say all I initially planned to. I’ll probably make more posts like this, one potentially exploring the opposite of this one; how Arata views Taichi. If you read this far thanks for entertaining my rambles!

Taichi was…well. Perfect. Not perfect as he was flawless, no, he was just…amazing to Takaaki. He was…perfect. Everything about Taichi gave him butterflies. He'd swoon if Taichi just looked at him. But there were days where he got worried.
He was worried Taichi would hate him one day.
Just one day, Taichi was going to get tired of him. That Taichi would leave him and throw Takaaki away like if he was easily disposable. Well. Taichi wouldn't be harsh. But…
It got him wondering.
And it made him spiral into horrible thoughts that made his heart race, leaving his body cold and afraid. He could feel tears prick the corners of his eyes some days. He'd sometimes toss and turn in their bed, wondering if Taichi actually hated him because of how he was. He wondered if Taichi…if Taichi hated how their financial situation was. If that was one of the reasons he was unhappy and why he would leave Takaaki.
Takaaki didn't have much. Taichi helped with money, yeah. But Takaaki hated that. It made him feel like a terrible partner. If only his father wasn't such a sack of shit who left them all in debt they would've all been out of poverty. They'd actually be middle class. Not anything lower…
Takaaki would hug Taichi, trying to keep his mind away from all the pain he was making himself feel. Taichi would kiss him and ask him if he was okay. Takaaki would answer with a shake of his head. And Taichi would sigh and hug him back. Telling him it'll be okay, whatever it was. And Takaaku would be grateful for his wonderful husband.
"I love you." Takaaki whispered.
"I love you, too." Taichi said back with a smile.
He loved Taichi. And he fully trusted and believed Taichi. But sometimes his brain wanted to harm him. To tell him that Taichi was lying. And that sweet, amazing smile was all fake. Fake…
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I can't provide much. I'm sorry of our way of life…I'm sorry you're in this financial state. I wouldn't be upset if you left, you know that, right?" Takaaki said randomly as they laid in bed. Takaaki held Taichi in his arms as Taichi snuggled near him. "Aki? What are you talking about? Why would I leave you?" Taichi asked.
"Because…maybe you're just unhappy with how everything is. And that you're tired of me and…and you lie when you say you love me. Maybe it's just me being awful to myself and just being downright stupid. But…I'm just afraid." Takaaki rambled, he could feel tears in his eyes again for a second time that day. But he didn't want to let them fall again.
Taichi held his husband's face in his hands. "Takaaki Ishimaru, I love you. And I always will. I knew what our situation was going to be like when I asked you to marry me. I knew that from the start. And guess what? I still asked you to marry me. And what did you say?" Taichi asked, his cute face getting all serious.
"I said 'Yes'…" Takaaki answered.
"Exactly! And we had a wedding. A wedding so amazing we both started to cry! And I'm still happy. I worry about your health and sometimes that gets me upset, but that's because I care, Aki! You're the most amazing husband I could ask for." Taichi said with a bright smile. Now Takaaki started to cry again. He just let his tears fall at the kind words.
Fuck. He was so sweet.
Takaaki kissed Taichi's lips. "I love you so much, Taichi." He said as he cried softly. Taichi wiped away any tears that fell down Takaaki's cheeks. "Same here. Always." Taichi kissed him. Taichi laid his head on Takaaki's chest, hugging his husband tightly. "You shouldn't have to worry about such a thing, Love. Because you're the only man I need and want." Taichi gave him another bright smile before closing his eyes to go to sleep.
Takaaki nodded, "Okay…I-I'm glad." Takaaki couldn't help but smile as well. He held Taichi closer and fell asleep along with his beloved. His heart racing, but in a good way. His cheeks growing red from all the affection he was feeling. He loved his husband. And he was glad his husband loved him back.

Taishirokoura x possibilities - "What if" pt. 3
For @taikouvember 2023 - Day 2: Past, Present & Future + Day 6: Brave Knowledge, Unexpected Impulsive Love & Curious Courage
[0. Author's note] [1. Koushiro] [2. Sora] [3. Taichi] [4. Taikoura]
Taikoura | Genre: Young oblivious romance, mild fear | Characters: Taichi Yagami (POV), Mimi Tachikawa | Wordcount: 696
Tumblr media
Yeah, when I get to the end of my life I wanna know that I Used my time So what if I fall Straight out of the sky Would I rather look back and wonder Or know that I actually tried?
Pt 3. Taichi
“I don’t know Mimi…” He said.
“Just do it, Taichi-san, live a little!” She returned.
Mimi stood behind him like a coach cheering him on to dive in the water and swim his fastest lap yet, while he was afraid, on the verge of another panic attack. His starting-block was the door he stood in front of, his right hand nervously on top of the doorknob. Taichi felt like chickening out, his mood rather gloomy opposed from Mimi’s never ending lively energy.
He had been trying to get to her level of positivity. It was what he needed, otherwise he would have never asked her to come over and hype him up. Asking someone over –especially Mimi— was something he usually wouldn’t do, but in this case, for this goal, when desperate times called for desperate measures, it felt like the only right thing to do to keep him on track.
“It feels more like dying.”
He had kind of lost the track though.
“Ugh, always the negativity, doubt and drama with you,” Mimi said, annoyance seeping through. He heard her coming closer, so Taichi let go of the doorknob and turned around to look at her, knowing he would get another motivational speech from her.
“Look, what else do you wanna do? Wait for them to come first? Because if you do that, I bet you’ll be waiting for eternity to pass. Try to see the future, be curious, jump right into it! I’m convinced you’ll have all the beauty of this romance, but only when you simply get off that scared ass of yours and tell them how you feel!”
“But I don’t know what I feel!” Taichi belted out sounding like singing a bad love song.
Mimi crossed her arms, raising one eyebrow and giving him a grin to provoke him once more. “Is that so?”
“I… God damnit Mimi.”
Taichi sighed, eyes falling to the ground, his own confusion making him feel sick. He hated it when she was right, it drove him insane. Through his confusion, he knew exactly how he felt. For once in his live he knew what he wanted to chase. And it was now or never, with never not being one of the options. However, the idea of going face down, jumping into an empty swimming pool, people laughing in his face about his failure…
“You’re afraid.”
Thank God Mimi was here to word his feelings. She made it sound so easy.
“Yes.” He said as he straightened himself a little. He inhaled and looked straight back at her. “Yes I am.”
Mimi nodded silently, thinking hard on what motivation she was going to give him next. What kind of analogy would work best. “So what if you fall? Just like that. Poof. Straight out of the sky.”
“I actually die.”
“Taichi-san! Focus!” Mimi snapped back, playfully slapping his arm but meaning it with all its force all the same.
“Okay okay!” Taichi cried. He thought about what she said, because what would happen if he fell…
“I will never get what I want.” Taichi concluded out loud.
“Ten points!” Mimi exclaimed in response. “Now, what would happen if you make that jump, but instead of falling, you fly?”
His eyes grew big, heart pounding in his chest as he let that idea run through his mind for a moment. What he saw were all the possibilities, all the wonderful and loving outcomes it could bring him. Bring them. Sure, it wouldn’t be easy. Who the actual f would consider such a romance like that in traditional Japan? But all he saw was the beauty and he remembered why he had asked Mimi to hype him up and go after what he had been curious about for years now.
“That would actually be amazing,” he fondly spoke, a bright smile appearing again.
“Mmhm!” Mimi’s excitement for him, for them, was beyond everything and Taichi felt incredibly thankful. “And i—”
“ –if I don’t jump at all, I will wonder forever.” He finished for her, his courage flooding back to him thanks to her. “I see what you’re trying to do here.”
“Heh. Now go get them!”

I love how you draw koushiro!! My beloved kcdnkdjdkdmdmdmd
Do you have any izzy headcanons? (I use both names)
Awww, thank you so much! I love him too dearly!
Let me think, some headcanon.. I have to excuse myself already because most of them will probably include Taichi!
•He enjoys listening Yamato's songs while working, even after he stopped being the school rockstar. He would have supported Yamato hardly as a singer!
•I am 100% sure he calls his mom everyday, no matter what and Kae pretend to talk with Tento-san too during these calls.
•He probably enjoy a lot Miko's presence while working at home to the point of trying to befriend every single cat he sees when he's out. In the end, he also adopt a little cat too.
•He likes to spend some time with Sora in his free time to check up on her, talk about their stupid ass boyfriends, talk about their jobs, their lifes in general! Pretty much as a counterpart to Taichi and Yamato going out being drink buddies.
•He probably does too much generous gifts, not caring at all about money.
•Taichi and him often dinner with Jyou and Mimi, pretty much to save Jyou from Mimi bizzare delicacies. But he really enjoys their company, so it's fine!
•Anytime he neede help with some.. Let's say frivolous subject, he'll indeed ask Mimi. But she really wished he asked help for his awful wardrobe. The boy is so cute but really can't dress himself beside the work attire!
•Since metal city events, he became really attached to Hikari too, he checks for her as much as Taichi does, to be sure she's fine and not overworking herself too much. He became his big brother too. Hikari actually call him Nii-san sometimes, Koushiro almost cried the first time!
•When he falls asleep you can be sure as hell nothing will wake him up beside his alarm going on in the morning. Taichi admires him, he fucking wished he had Koushiro sleeping attitude.

Or perhaps… 2nd gen captains headcanons 👀👀👀👀 i love them with my whole ass heart
More for yoom-ss because they and the future caps deserve the world
ANYWAYS 2ND GEN CAPTAINS HCS LET'S GO!!!
Tumblr media
- They're all depressed teenagers, what can I say 💀
- THEY'RE TRYING THEIR BEST FUCK
- They've all, no matter who, have cried themselves to sleep wondering how the hell they're going to live up to their previous captains
- Yamamoto and Seguro try to keep up the Nekoma/Nohebi rivalry but in all honesty they really don't hate each other. They try so hard to act like they hate each other, they don't 💀
- Meanwhile Shirabu and Yahaba's rivalry is worse than Ushijima and Oikawa's
- They've fist fought
- Shirabu ended up breaking Yahaba's nose. Yahaba doesn't like to talk about it.
- Akaashi's used to this. He was pretty much the captain last year. He's got this in the bag.
- At least he thinks he does until he meets the crazy first years who think they're "2 cool 4 skool 🥶🥶🥶💢💢💢🔥🔥💯💯‼️😩💦💦"
- Akaashi kicks their asses dw
- Atsumu wants to be intimidating, and he is the the first years. The other new third years don't take him seriously at all. (Especially Osamu and Suna, they laugh at him when he tells them to do something)
- Ennoshita's on the verge of becoming an alcoholic with how his team stresses him out. He's terrifying tho.
- One time he slapped Kageyama upside his head when he was giving him attitude and he was quiet for the rest of the day. (Ennoshita felt bad later once he realized that he hurt Kageyama's feelings more than anything)
- Hirugami is pretty composed about it. He's doing his best. However, he tends to get burned out more often now that he has to guide the whole team.
- Atema is starting to blow up often. At his teammates. Some of the fellow third years have to calm him down. Quite frequently at that. He makes sure to remind his underclassmen that he's just very passionate and cares about them getting better.
- Usuri is scary to the new babies too 😭 they all call him intimidating and he never understands why. Also, another setter captain. So many setters.
- Sakusa is honestly not very good at the captain business. He's not very open with anything at all. Good thing we got Komori to help ✋️💀
- Terushima is having the time of his life, he loves being the captain so much 😪✨️ "Let's go fuck some shit up guys, woo-hoo! :D"
- Yuzuru is constantly on the verge when it comes to the fucks he has to lend. Especially with Hyakuzawa. He has been since he started the captain business in his second year. He's honestly about to send a letter to the previous third years apologizing for being a brat in his first and second year. He tries his best to be nice 😭
- All the other captains just wanna die
- anYWAYS
- Futakuchi probs causes the most fights within the group. He's an asshole 💀 it doesn't combine well with how temptable Yamamoto and Seguro are
- Shirabu, Yuzuru, and Usuri get along well. Almost too well. It's scary. They act like the group of mean kids that live on you're block that torment you and your friends.
- Akaashi and Ennoshita get along pretty well too. They just wanna relax
- Atsumu and Yahaba don't like each other 💀 probably because Yahaba is lowkey a mini Oikawa 😭
- Yamamoto and Terushima are straight ANIMALS like nothing can stop those two. Add Seguro into the mix and they're bouncing off the walls
- Futakuchi and Shirabu don't really like each other, but when they team up? Oh someone's gonna die
- Atsumu really admires Akaashi. He thinks he's really cool 😭 little does he know about Akaashi thinking he's admirable too
- The vice caps get along better than all of them 💀 it's funny with STZW and AJ cuz Yahaba and Shirabu will be staring each other down meanwhile Taichi, Watari, and Kyōtani will be sitting down talking about their Spotify playlists
- Tanaka and Fukunaga get along well too! Tanaka thinks his jokes are genuinely funny and I find that adorable
- Aone kicks it with them too sometimes. He likes their good, happy vibes.
- Shirabu and Ennoshita have laid back in lawn chairs (accompanied by Kawanishi cuz he gets out of stuff) and watched as their team ran multiple laps around the track field.
- The caps are all trying their very best 😭 it's so hard honestly and they just want a break
- Sometimes for team bonding their teammates buy their food just cuz, it's so sweet
- Future caps >>>>> anything else

ASDFGJDLIABAIDUIRUWBKWISHDKVDAUZHDEHF HSDJFAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHNALSJEBSOSJSBFNDDJKWFJDOFHAK!!!!!!!!!!????!!!)($2+$9@+$(_2(#!!!!!!!!
*ehem* Sorry. I'm ok. Anyway... Digimon Survive uwu and as an extra: I, myself, was supposed to be born on Feb 29 but I went ahead of time and ruined my mom's telenovela finale by being born on Friday 23rd (ง ื▿ ื)ว
Ok so, I just came back home from watching and I'm still shaking.
02beginning SPOILERS AHEAD!
Because I went to the very first screening at 12 pm, we were only 6 in the room and one guy went cosplaying as Dukemon (was too shy to ask for a proper pic because he was with his girlfriend).
Tumblr media
*ehem* well, onto the movie... THANK GOD HERE IN MEXICO FOR THE LATAM SPANISH DUB WE NEVER GOT THE EVOLUTION SONGS DUBBED BECAUSE LISTENING TARGET AND BEAT HIT IN THE CINEMA WAS SUCH A DELIGHT AND A BLESSING I COULDN'T STOP SHAKING and yes, I cried a bit.
The experience of being welcomed with Bolero with an overwhelming audio is something I'll never forget but onto the plot.
Because I thought I would have to wait years to watch it, I actually looked for spoilers but nothing very explicit tbh, I also saw people saying there was body horror but honestly, Ghost Game had it "worse" xD so I wasn't that bothered by what Ukkomon did; he never did it with malice anyway, of course it was kind of... wrong? Awful? But he did it because he genuinely wanted for Rui to be happy; no one told them they had to talk in order to have a healthy relationship.
I don't think I ever felt so close with Daisuke before despite being a Dai oshi; I felt so angry with how Rui's mom treated him, being a 4 years old baby... this was the second time I cried in the movie (the first being listening target and don't believing that I was there watching xD) and I swear I wanted to cross the screen and scream at her a couple of things. Rui was genuinely a good boy (still is), going to talk to his sick dad about their day, I thought that was very sweet.
At the end, the "time travel" didn't really felt like that to me but rather a very immersive memories.
The evolutions sequence were beyond amazing so, nothing to say really xD just thankful that XV-mon and Stingmon were actually "drawn" rather than staying as CG and even so, the CGs were very neat.
I was quite worried about the dub but it seems the dialogues were done properly, at least taking in consideration what I remembered from the PVs. Thankfully we got Hikari, Iori and Ken having their same VA from Adventure along with the Digis; Daisuke and Takeru had their same VA from Lastevo and Miyako got a whole new voice but they did decent, they actually got quite well how the 02 gang is.
And Daisuke, oh my boi being the man I trust to ruin it with the police xD "why didn't you stopped me?!", I love you uwu and how he was the only one to tell Rui right to his face what he had to do.
The battle sequence was nice as well, I was worried for a moment to be honest and loved that scene where Miyako "ships" Daisuke and Ken-chan uwu
I knew we had to go in a big fight but I genuinely felt bad that the only solution was to defeat Ukkomon. I actually stayed until the post credits scene and I was happy to see Rui smile ;w;
So, in my humble opinion, it's a very good movie to add to the Digi Lore, it's very enjoyable and was what I needed for 02.
I saw people say that the movie doesn't solve the losing partners issue presented in Lastevo but I think that's not the case: Ukkomon gave the chosen children the Digivice via Homeostasis; considering that this "superior being" is indeed Homeostasis, this giving the partnership a tangible item to tie Digimons with Humans but, is that all?
I personally think that Takeru being anxious over losing their partners was justified after all, Yamato lose Gabumon so I understand why he would hesitate to kill Ukkomon; at the end, the Digivice was just that, a tangible bond but, they don't really need it, do they? Just like how in Adventure, Taichi and co. didn't needed the crests to evolve because their hearts were the actual crests.
The Digivice ties Digimon and Humans, yes but even without it, the bond is there so how does this solves the partners loss? As long as they have a bond, they will come back I mean, Ukkomon is coming back and Rui's Digivice is no more plus even after losing their D3s, Daisuke and co. still had their partners, right? This just shows that Digimon Survive was right in not giving their protagonist digivices: KIZUNA. We don't need the bond to be tangible, right?
Also, I almost screamed when Wallace was on screen with Terriermon and Lopmon ;w; it was nice to see Chichos too xD How did your dubs named her anyway? Here in Mexico it was changed to "Guadalupe"; Chichos sounds like "chichis" and that's a way to say "boobs".
Anyway, because I want more cards, I'll go to watch it again on Sunday because it's the only day I have free ;w; hope they don't run out of them, I want all my kids OTL

Idk if I like it better with the silly colourdey effects or without
Totally forgot Juza's jacket had sleeves and just drew his arms but hey free arm
I stole two things from that Taichi drawing, one is idea of the graffiti because it just scritches the brain and the other is Isa's bass. I just took the guitar, recoloured it, remembered basses only have 4 strings, cried and took out some strings

CONTENT WARNING: this piece is about disordered eating [nothing very graphic, but mentions of some of the milder side effects of not eating well for a somewhat extended period of time] so please please take caution in reading
I honestly think Taichi may struggle with eating properly. Like, I can see him feeling super nervous during the middle of spring, because ‘oh jeez, summer is coming and I totally gained weight, I know I did, ah shit.,,’. He’d get worried about how he has a smaller frame compared to the other guys in Mankai, and especially the guys in his troupe. Like, Omi is huge. When he’s in a bad headspace, just standing up near Omi makes him feel so scrawny and pathetic. So he starts eating in a very unbalanced manner. While simultaneously trying to lose his ‘winter weight’ and gain muscle, Taichi starts skipping meals and doing strenuous workouts way more often than his body can handle. He starts sneaking into the kitchen late at night, trying to find something to stave off his hunger so he can sleep. He starts feeling dizzy and lightheaded multiple times a day. He can barely help Yuki sew anymore because his seams keep going crooked and he’s just too woozy and ‘God it's warm in here’ ‘Shit I'm freezing’ ‘Dude I’m fine I swear! (I feel sick)’ and he can't keep track of where the needle is going. Two and a half weeks of this. He feels terrible. Not only is his body struggling to keep up with his activities and schoolwork, he feels incredibly guilty for lying to everyone. Because, let's be real, some of the older members of Mankai know something is up with Taichi. Izumi can see that something is wrong, but she can't pinpoint exactly what. Kazu is worried about his peppy little bro seeming so wiped out at 3 in the afternoon. And Omi. Shit. It feels horrible lying to him. And smiling while lying to his face? Taichi feels nauseated every time he does it.
 “I ate already!!”
“Oh don't worry, I had a big lunch, I’m just not hungry for dinner!”
“Haha, I’ll tell ya if I’m hungry Omimiiii!”
Three weeks. Three weeks of this. And Taichi is in the kitchen at 2 in the morning, with a sad little sandwich in his cold hand. And he stubs his toe.
And apparently that was the last fucking straw.
And he slides down the side of the countertop to curl up into himself on the floor. And he cries. And he cries. Juza was the first one who found Taichi curled up on the floor and got scared. Unsure of how to proceed, he gently laid his hand on the little boy’s shaking back. Opening his arms, allowing Taichi to lean in and be held, asked who he would be comfortable talking with. And now we have Omi and Izumi sitting on the couch with Taichi, comforting him and listening attentively as he tells them everything. No more lying. Never again. I promise. I'm so sorry. Omi and Izumi glanced at each other for a moment, and the two minds as one body, proceeded to reassure this kid in front of them. “Taichi, its ok”
“...what?”
“Listen to me, hey hey, look at me please? Taichi, listen please.”
“It's okay Nanao. I promise. We love you.”
“We care about you. I promise.”
 “It’s alright.”
“It's okay.”
“We love you”
All Taichi can do is cry harder, cradled in Izumi and Omi’s arms, surrounded by the warmest reassurance he’s felt in a while. Omi and Izumi spend the next few hours calming Taichi down, re-assuring him that they’re here for him, that they still love him, that they’ll always love him. that they could never be mad at him for something like this. And Izumi chokes a little bit between ‘like’ and ‘this’. Someone in her care, god, a child in her care was hurting so bad and she couldn't help sooner? She could have helped with this one. She knew what it felt like to…no, she knows what it feels like, she, oh god, she knows and it’s bad. She’s tensed up to hell and back, she will not cry right now, this is not about her. but of course, Taichi notices. And he silently leans his forehead against her shoulder in assumed understanding. Omi notices and he keeps one hand on Taichi’s knee and one hand slides to the middle of Izumi’s back. Warm. Solid. Safe.
Tucked up on the couch like this, Taichi falls asleep first. Omi and Izumi can’t bring themselves to sleep yet though, and they both sit there for a little over an hour, in rapt contemplation of the boy between him, and the way he looked younger when he was asleep. There was a quiet comfort in how they both laid a hand each on Taichi’s back, in how Izumi’s hand tentatively searches for Omi’s behind the cushion between them, and how Omi gently catches it, and holds on to her, absolutely swept with a sense of fierce protectiveness, of reverence, and a sickening twist of fear and deep seated care for the two sleeping bodies next to him.
Misumi just so happened to wake up earliest that morning, having planned to cut up some triangle shaped fruits for Natsugumi’s picnic later that day. Yawing and wrapping his crochet blanket [courtesy of Yuki] to bunch up on his shoulders, he sleepily shuffled into the living room, walking to pull aside the curtains to let in some sunlight almost on autopilot, when he stopped in the middle of the carpet, standing stock still. Oh boy. Something deeeefinitely happened here. Something not very nice at all. As quiet as he could, Misumi tip-toed over to the couch, gently laying his blanket over Taichi and Omi, and slid off his hoodie to cover up Izumi. As darling as they looked, all cuddled up, Misumi’s heart absolutely ached seeing how desperately it seemed Taichi was clutching onto the hem of Omi’s shirt, how protectively the two adults had been sitting around Taichi. Putting aside the fruit for now, Misumi thought it best to put on a pot of water to make some black tea for the little group when they woke up. It’s what his grandfather did whenever Misumi was feeling all sad and run-down. While the water boiled he snuck around to the rooms of anyone he guessed could have been awake that early, Chikage and Itaru, Tasuku, Kazunari and Kumon, he even flagged down Kamekichi and asked him to keep the living room clear of any visitors till the trio woke up. Bustling around the kitchen, he couldnt help but softly giggle as he heard Taichi yawn and stretch out, one arm hanging off of the couch, and Misumi caught himself blushing a little as he turned around to see Omi [still half asleep], pulling Izumi closer, who, in turn, snuggled in, with her hand resting on the back of Taichi’s head. Pretty cute.

What do you think of Akihito Sudou as a character? His relationship with other characters? He's my second fav character in chihayafuru but i don't see anyone talking about him that much anywhere🤧 plus I wanted to read some fanfics about him but couldn't find any good one,so if you don't mind, any recs?👀 Thank you, have a nice day😊
oh i am a big sudo fan! he was a character that i initially didn't focus on a ton, but rather the more i read of the manga, the more i really came to appreciate his character, to the point where i'd probably list him in my top 5-6 chihayafuru characters….. he started out as more of a background rival character (i think i didn't like him at first because he was mean to chihaya amshd;falkhsd), but with sudo, suetsugu did one of the things she's best at as a character writer: taking characters that fit neatly into archetypes at first, and over time fleshing them out beyond that point. all of her characters, even supporting or background ones, end up feeling like fully realized people; she accomplishes something similar with characters like suo, shinobu, and even taichi.
building upon this idea of archetypes, what makes sudo so compelling to me is the fact that at first he seems like a sadistic karuta player who will bring adversarial tension to karuta tournaments, nothing more—but there's a lot more to him than that. over time, we as readers and the characters around him start to see that sudo is a sadist, but he's not a cold-hearted or uncaring person. he truly loves karuta, and his sadistic, intense nature as a player is how he displays that passion and love for karuta. (in a way this acts as a precursor to arata’s internal struggle, where even though he doesn’t want to, playing karuta ruthlessly turns out to be the truest way to show respect to his opponents as his equal—with sudo, he has already reached the point where he’s comfortable going to that place in karuta, because he has internalized that that’s how his passion for it comes through.) he shows an unwavering passion for not just becoming the meijin or the top player, but a desire to stay involved in karuta his entire life because he loves it that much. even among a cast of characters who are literally all obsessed with karuta, sudo is special to me in that way because our perceptions of him as a player shift so greatly over time.
sudo also cares deeply about the people around him—his team, suo, even his rivals like taichi and chihaya. i think this second point is something very striking about him. there's actually a quote in the manga fruits basket about how every person's kindness looks a little different, how it takes a different shape, and for a lot of people you have to look harder to recognize that innate kindness—because it doesn't look the same as what we imagine “kindness” will look like. for some reason, sudo is always the chihayafuru character that makes me think of that quote! i found it really impactful to see a character like sudo, who at first glance appears mean and malicious, turn out to be one of the kindest characters in the series, one who loves karuta in a truly uncomplicated way. the way he shows affection for other people is more complicated by his hard exterior, but he genuinely has a very big heart. obviously his relationship with suo is a standout and probably what made sudo a favorite for a lot of readers, including myself. there’s something really special about watching sudo do everything he can to keep suo in the karuta world—and when he cried for suo, mountains were simply moved! it’s just clear to me that sudo is in love with him loves him a lot even if he doesn’t say it directly, and their bond is quite meaningful to me.
aside from this obvious one, i also love sudo’s friendship with chihaya so much!! i never really expected to, but i was obsessed with their little challenger/qualifier training arc together! the way they play off of each other is very fun to read. i think their dynamic is also interesting because chihaya typically hates people who play karuta in a “nasty” or mean-spirited way, but i feel like she’s able to reach a common ground with sudo because his sadism is so deeply rooted in a love for karuta, which chihaya can understand. i also really love sudo’s scenes with taichi and desperately wish they had more scenes together. the way sudo teases and simultaneously pushes and motivates taichi….. it’s good. specifically, i think the interplay of suo-sudo-taichi is fascinating and no one talks about it enough. it isn’t lingered on a ton in the text, but sudo must have been feeling immense jealousy when suo started focusing all of his attention on taichi; i love fanworks that dive into that aspect of his character and his relationships with suo and taichi. (there’s a lot that can be said about how those three characters intersect and are juxtaposed to each other—suo and taichi drawn together by their common “apathy” towards karuta while sudo is “left out” as someone who truly loves it; taichi who appears to love karuta but secretly thinks he hates it vs. sudo who loves karuta in such a warmhearted way that’s obscured by his harsh exterior….. however, that’s a far more complicated post; i genuinely feel like i could talk about those three forever, so i will rein myself in!)
i haven’t read a ton of fics with sudo featured, unfortunately! most of the ones i’ve seen are chihaya/sudo, which i don’t ship, but if you’re looking for something to read there are several on ao3 that you could check out! my favorite fic portrayal of sudo, however, is definitely how he's characterized in perfectly still in the dark by bloodletters. while suo and taichi's relationship is the main focus of the fic, sudo has the most striking scene with taichi—even if you are not a gay sudo truther like myself, it's so worthwhile to read just because of how expertly and subtley he is characterized. now that i think about it, i think that fic might've actually been what jumpstarted my love for sudo, but i digress LMAO. tl;dr out of all the chihayafuru characters, sudo for me is the closest to being canonically gay, and he should be celebrated more for that reason alone 🤍

Note: I meant to finish this much, much sooner than I clearly did... I’M SO SORRY. Life is hard ;w;
Hello, @atsoraasayoma ! I’m sorry that I wasn’t clear, but @animegenork is my main blog, where I do my fangirling and nonsense ramblings. This is the blog where I take writing requests! (Tumblr doesn’t let you reply on posts with a sideblog, unfortunately.)
In any case, I’d be happy to write your request. c: I hope you like it!

A/N: I had a hard time coming up with a real reason for why Taichi would ban Hikari from seeing Takeru, considering how much he loves Takeru as well. So that was kinda flubbed, I think, and maybe a tad out of character. Otherwise, it should be okay...?
“But Taichi,” Hikari whined, “you and I both know he didn’t mean it.”
“I don’t care, Hikari. He went too far.” Taichi scrubbed his hand through his wild mane of hair, a crease forming between his eyebrows. “I know I’m an idiot, but being told that outright to my face by Takeru? That’s a low blow.”
Hikari sighed. It had been a prank, or least Takeru’s idea of one. Everyone else had laughed, but Taichi’s eyes had shone with hurt. As his sister, Hikari had been the first to notice this and the fact that he wasn’t laughing.
“I don’t want you hanging around him outside of school, Hikari,” Taichi muttered, and Hikari widened her eyes. “At least until he learns his lesson.”
“That’s not fair! You’re my brother, not my father!” she cried. The thought of not even getting to walk home with Takeru, her best friend, was unbearable. For more reasons than she would be able to explain. “What if he apologizes? Will that fix it?”
“It’s going to take more than that. I know you two are close, but the last thing I need is my sister hanging out with someone who thinks insults are funny.” Taichi turned to leave the room, stopping with his hand on the doorframe. “I’m sorry,” he murmured, and Hikari could tell by his voice that he was. “It’s just for now. Just give me some time.”
She didn’t reply as he left, and it wasn’t until she heard the front door of their apartment close that she sat down hard on her bed, wondering what in the name of the Digital World she was going to do now.
~ ~ ~
“Taichi said what?”
Yamato let out a heaving sigh. “You know how he is. It takes him forever to get over things.”
“I thought that was you.”
“And that mouth of yours is probably why he’s pissed.”
“It was a joke!”
“For someone so grown up, you sure are childish.”
Takeru groaned. “So I can’t hang out with my best friend until this all blows over?”
“That’s the gist of it.”
“This is awful.” Takeru lowered his head, rubbing a hand down his face. “I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“On the bright side, at least you’ll have some time to think. Maybe you’ll come up with some nicer pranks, or at least ones that don’t hurt the gogglehead’s feelings.”
“Yeah, sure. Thanks, Yamato.”
His brother nodded and left, leaving Takeru with his thoughts. He wasn’t sure he could handle time away from his best friend--unlike Taichi and Yamato, they didn’t exactly subsist on time away from each other. They were always better together, but now they couldn’t have that except in school. And it’s not like they had much time, then.
This was going to be rough.

“Hikari? What’s wrong?”
Blinking to clear the fog over her vision, Hikari glanced over at Miyako, who was leaning down to meet her eyes. Sora and Mimi, just ahead of them, were looking back at her in concern. “Oh, sorry. It’s nothing.”
Sora raised an eyebrow. “Hikari, you’re your brother’s sister, and that face doesn’t mean nothing.”
Mimi put her hands on her hips. “Come on, girl, tell us what’s up.”
“Only if we get some ice cream.”
The girls agreed and led Hikari to an ice cream shop, where they took over a corner table and leaned in close to hear what was on her mind. Hikari wanted to smile at this, because even though they were all in high school, they had never once given her the feeling that they’d left her behind and moved on.
“It’s just, ever since Taichi forbid me from seeing Takeru outside of school--”
“--which is completely bogus and stupid! Go on.”
“Thank you, Mimi. Anyway, I’ve just been, I don’t know, feeling weird. I can barely talk to him at school because of class and everything, and not seeing him just feels... wrong. It’s like I’m empty without him.”
A worm of doubt and embarrassment slithered through her at the smirks the three other girls exchanged. “Don’t just smirk at me! What’s going on?”
Sora’s smile was kind. “I think Mimi can explain it best.”
Flicking her hair over her shoulder, Mimi set her hands on her hips and declared, “Obviously, you’re in love with him!”
“What?” Hikari’s heart beat faster as if in confirmation. But there was no way that was true... right? “How can I be in love with him?”
“You want to spend more time with him, right? And you feel empty without him around? That’s a clear sign of missing him. But while I missed all of you while I was in New York--” and here Mimi threw her arms around Sora and Miyako and squeezed them both, “--I didn’t necessarily feel empty inside without you around me. I knew I could still call or email you, and there was the Digital World, too.”
Miyako nodded. “I bet you think about him even when you two are apart, and you see things on television you wanna tell him about next time you see him because they reminded you of him.”
“Well, yeah, but isn’t that the same with everyone else’s best friends?” Hikari gestured to Sora and Mimi. “Don’t you two talk constantly about your favorite dramas?”
“It’s not the same with Takeru, is it?” Miyako shook her head. “You want to talk to me about our favorite anime, but when you see something you know Takeru likes, you want to watch it so you can talk about it.”
Hikari wanted to protest, but she knew that they were right. It was different with Takeru--it always had been. No matter how hard she tried to deny it, it had always been a different feeling when she was with him. And lately, her heart had done somersaults whenever they talked, constricting when he smiled or when he was playing with Patamon.
With a sigh, she pinched her nose and said, “Oh my God, I’m in love with him.”
“Ladies, we have liftoff.” Mimi brushed her hands together as if they’d achieved something grand. “Now what are you gonna do about the Taichi thing?”
“I can punch him for you,” Miyako offered.
“No, it’s fine. I can figure this out. I think.” Hikari released a breath. “Now I guess I just need to tell him.”
“Don’t worry, it can’t possibly go wrong. Unless I’ve been wrong about you two this entire time.”
“Thanks, Mimi, that’s reassuring.”
“Anytime!”

“Taichi is being unreasonable,” Ken said, taking the bowl of candy away from Daisuke before he ate too much sugar. “I’m sure he was just lashing out because he was hurt.”
“He never reacts like this. Did I really go too far?” Takeru groaned and fell back onto the carpet, spreading his arms out on either side like he was going to make a carpet angel. But he knew doing so would only remind him of Hikari.
“I thought it was funny,” Iori said, raising his hand like they were in class. “Although it was a bit childish.”
“Yeah, it was.” Takeru grimaced. “And I’ve been feeling crappy about it ever since.”
“I wish there was a way we could help.” Ken furrowed his eyebrows, which Takeru recognized as his thinking face. There was a moment of silence among the boys before Ken spoke up again. “Is Taichi open to an apology?”
“I hope so. I really miss Hikari.”
Daisuke narrowed his eyes and leaned across the coffee table until he was in Takeru’s face. “You miss her, huh?” A smirk climbed up his face as he rested his chin on his fist. “Are you sure that’s it?”
“What are you talking about?” Takeru could barely understand Daisuke on a good day, and this was anything but.
Iori translated. “He’s asking if you’re sure you only miss her.” The younger boy raised an eyebrow. “I’m wondering the same thing. Is that all you’re feeling?”
Why was he being psychoanalyzed? “Of course that’s it! She’s my best friend! Everything’s so boring without her; I wish she was here to help translate Daisuke-speak.”
“So you wish you were with her more often,” Ken mused, slowly unwrapping a piece of candy.
“Um, yeah? Why are you all making a big deal about this?”
“You clearly like her, you dingus!” Daisuke finally shouted. “And I should know, I’m the expert on having a crush on Hikari!”
“You couldn’t even get her to hold your hand.”
“I thought we agreed never to speak of that, Iori.”
“Like her?” The realization hit Takeru like a brick. Of all their friends, he should have been the first to realize this; he’d always been good at picking up on signals about this type of stuff. But here he was, just as clueless as Daisuke used to be. How had he been so stupid? “God, you’re right.”
“Of course I’m right!” Daisuke puffed out his chest proudly. “Now, onto the task of wooing fair Hikari’s heart--I’m thinking white horse--”
“Why would we let Takeru ride a horse when he has Pegasmon?” Ken looked confused. “And wouldn’t it be better to shower her in flower petals and present her with an extravagant present.”
“I’ve heard that he needs to sing a song. I’m sure Yamato would back you up, Takeru,” Iori suggested.
Takeru needed to stop this. “Uh, thanks, guys, I’ll consider all your ideas, but I think I need to do this on my own.”
Daisuke shrugged. “Your funeral. Don’t come crying when your boring gesture doesn’t work.”
“I appreciate the confidence, Daisuke.”
“Anytime.”
~ ~ ~
“And that’s all the reasons why you’re not an idiot and I am for suggesting you are.” Takeru pressed his forehead into the floor, his knees aching from how long he’d been crouching. “I’m really, really sorry, Taichi--please don’t be mad anymore.”
The floor creaked, and he felt Taichi’s hand ruffling his hair. “I suppose I could forgive you. Really, I could never stay mad at you, Takeru.”
Takeru lifted his head and smiled at Taichi. “That’s great to hear.”
“Just watch it next time, okay? I know I’m an idiot, but it hurts when it comes from my little brother.” Taichi wrapped one arm around him and hugged the younger boy. “But thank you anyway for the apology. It means a lot.”
“I will. Thank you, Taichi.” Takeru sighed. A weight lifted off his shoulders. Now he could see Hikari again.
There was a sound of running, and Hikari suddenly appeared in the hallway, breathing heavily even though she couldn’t have run too far. “Did you make up? Taichi, have you stopped being stubborn?”
Taichi winked at Takeru and walked away. “Yeah, yeah, yell at me later. I know you want to talk to him.”
Hikari did just that, practically tackling Takeru in a hug. Even though Takeru was very much a hugger and had been used to this sort of thing from Mimi and Miyako, he’d never received such an enthusiastic hug from Hikari before. How long had it been, five years? Six? He laughed and hugged her back, his face aching from how wide his smile was. “I missed you, too, Hikari.”
“About that.” Hikari pulled away, a determined look on her face. “I’m just gonna say it, so please don’t hate me.” She took a deep breath before saying in a rush, “I think I’m in love with you.”
Takeru blinked. He had a feeling he’d heard her correctly, but still, he had to be sure... “You’re what?”
She said it just as fast as before. “I think I’m in love with you.”
“Come again?”
“I’m not saying it again, Takeru!”
He laughed again, but this time it was nervous. He could still see some of the spikes of Taichi’s brown hair around the corner, and he didn’t want to make the older boy mad again. But hell if he wasn’t going to take this chance and roll with it before Taichi did something to undermine it all. “I, uh, I think I’m in love with you, too, Hikari.”
“Say that again?”
“Absolutely not.” Takeru gave her one of his signature crooked grins. “I missed you like hell, Hikari.”
“I missed you, too.” She lightly flicked his forehead. “Never piss off my brother again, doofus.”
“If it means never seeing you? Wouldn’t dream of it.”
Hikari smiled and hugged him again, and Takeru wasn’t sure if he would ever be as happy as he was in this moment.

Nightmare this morning. All of the Digidestined had screen shots of their married partners and even canon Digidestined couples were not married. Hikari had married a blonde haired guy with glasses named Teru and Takeru married a girl with blue hair and glasses. Forgot her name but I remember him crying out the name chidori while Daisuke cried out Taichi’s name while they were running through the streets chasing after something.
Just no. I hope this is not a premonition of this movie coming out in the fall because I am in the mood to break something.

Mankai Stage Winter Troupe Live 2022
OMFG!!!! THEY WENT ALL OUT FOR THIS LIVE!!!
First of all, their singing got soooo much better (the harmonies were so beautiful), their dances are also a lot cleaner, and. Wow, don’t even get me started on their acting. Absolutely phenomenal performance. I was watching this with a friend, and she said that this had to be her favorite Live. Which I agree with. I feel like every Live was better than the last. And Fuyu’s performance was seriously no joke.
All the songs were just killer and just so so fun to watch. The transitions in between songs flowed really nicely.
The “story” bit for this Live is a bit shorter than the others, but that’s probably because the Live was already so long. It opens with Tsumugi and Tasuku doing a workshop at Yuzo’s theater. They did a really intense scene, and it was fun watching the two of them do an action scene. Then they invited Yuzo to go out drinking with their troupe. But the day of, Tsumugi and Tasuku are running late due to the lack of trains, and so it’s just Yuzo with Hisoka, Homare and Azuma, and it’s just... So awkward, lololol. To be honest, this is the part where my listening comprehension of Japanese isn’t really up to snuff yet, so I couldn’t really make out what they were saying, but I think Homare decided to drink a lot so that he would be eccentric enough to make Yuzo feel welcomed... Or something... So the song, “The Great Detective, Arisugawa Homare,” got remixed into Homare just getting hopelessly drunk. It’s so dramatic and chaotic, and it ends with Homare bawling all over Yuzo. It’s great.
In the end, everyone concludes that this is just Homare expressing his love to the troupe in his own awkward way. And after Yuzo goes home, they end the night stargazing. And oh geez, the stage was just so pretty.
Also, if you thought that Nocturnality couldn’t get any gayer... Oh ho ho, I am here to tell you that you are so wrong. They somehow amped up the gayness. Like, I can’t even believe.
For the transitions, instead of Matsukawa or Sakoda, it’s now led by Yuzo. And he did a good job! I just couldn’t understand most of it yet, lololol.
They had the same backup dancers as the other troupes, so it was a treat to see them again.
Akigumi’s message to Fuyugumi was just so them. Omi was recording it, and Taichi first started the message, but then he got sidetracked and started acting out a potential scene between a fan of his and him, until he got interrupted by Banri, who got interrupted by Juza which... Just led to them fighting that Omi had to put the camera down to help Taichi break it up, which ultimately led to Sakyo just barging in and setting everyone straight. And then Sakyo restarts the message to Fuyugumi that devolves into one of his infamous lectures. They’re so cute, I love them.
Unlike the other troupes, Fuyu got to sing “20 for Colors”, which is a song from Mankai Movie, which was neat to watch.
One little detail that I absolutely adore, is that when Fuyugumi sang “To Bloom,” they had these mics that were wrapped in their flowers. They were so pretty.
If I had to describe the overall tone of this Live, it’d had to be whimsical. And nostalgic. ...Yea, I think that’s a good way to describe it.
Also, at their curtain call, Tsumugi’s actor was talking about how last year, due to Covid, Fuyugumi was the only troupe where their performance might’ve been cancelled, and the pressure and the anxiety was just a lot, but thanks to everyone’s support, they were able to pull through. As he was talking about this, he almost cried, and then I almost cried. I really appreciate the vulnerability that he shared with us, since I just knew that there was no way that they didn’t struggle last year.
To be honest, out of all the troupes, I always felt like the actors of Fuyugumi weren’t as close as the others, but you could just tell that they were just having so much fun during this Live. I was so happy for them, and I had a lot of fun watching this too. It has got to be my favorite Fuyugumi performance.
And with that, I finally got to watch all of the Lives!!!

Taichi Week Day 1: Hikari & Agumon
Days: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Title: The Best Part of Me Summary: Taichi, Hikari and Agumon in 5 moments from 1995 to 2002. Taichi wasn't sure how to bring up the subject with his sister. It had been days since that very big dinosaur had appeared and simply vanished and since then Hikari had been sad and not speaking a word at all. Both their parents were very concerned with her situation, but Taichi said he would talk to her and see what was going on. The truth is that they wouldn't believe anything they'd say because it would be just bizarre. "Hikari?" The seven year old boy called his sister, but received no reply from her. He then climbed the small ladder that connected her bed to the floor and noticed she was staring at the ceiling. "Hikari, are you okay?" "Egg." She said simply, not taking her eyes away from the ceiling. "You mean the egg we found here a few days ago?" Taichi sat down on her bed and looked at her. "Hikari, he's gone." "No." Her eyes got teary and tears started to fall from them. "Bring him back, brother." "I can't." He grabbed her little hands and pulled her up, wrapping his arms around her and embracing her. "I don't know where he is." "Bring him back, Taichi." She cried on his pajamas for some minutes. Taichi simply stroked her hair softly and waited until her crying and loud sobs ceased and then stopped completely. Keep reading it on FF.net or AO3

Unused Scene from The Spark of Dawn
I'm in the sharing mood...
I wrote this out years ago but given how far into the fic I am, I don't know where I would fit it in if I end up using it. But I'll share it, anyway.
Ships: Taiora & Mimato
Some Context: Taichi leads a pirate crew (Jou, Koushiro, Mimi, Yamato). Sora is an unofficial member, whether she likes it or not. I also wrote this after watching the 2nd Fantastic Beasts movie where Newt talks about Tina having salamander eyes.
“Sora…” Taichi said. “She commands my heart and makes it feel funny. She might be stealthy and invisible, but to me, she’s grand and majestic, and there is nothing like her across the sea. She’s like… a whale.”
Yamato sat up and stared. Koushiro, who had just appeared on deck, stopped in his tracks.
“A whale, Cap?” Yamato asked.
“Yeah. I don’t know how to explain it.”
Yamato and Koushiro exchanged glances, and looked as though they were holding in their laughter.
“You shouldn’t ever tell that to a woman.”
“Why not?” Taichi asked.
“It’s just not very nice. They won’t react to it well.”
“But I don’t mean any insult. I find it hard to believe, Yamato. I know! Go tell Mimi.”
Yamato’s eyes flashed. “I wouldn’t dare.”
“Come on! I really want to see what she thinks.”
“Can it, Taichi! I am not going to call Mimi a whale!”
They heard a gasp, and Mimi appeared from the bottom. The look of horror on her face, the tears springing in her eyes told them all that she heard Yamato.
“Oh, I knew I shouldn’t have eaten all that calamari!” she cried, turning back down to the bottom.
“No, no, no, Mimi, wait…” Yamato immediately jumped to his feet to follow right after her. It was then that Taichi registered that perhaps his idea of a compliment was not very flattering after all. He looked to Koushiro with guilt as he heard the crashing of pots and pans down below, joined by Mimi’s sobbing and Yamato’s consoling yells.
“You know how I can get with the calamari, I should listen to you more when you say not to eat so much!”
“That’s because you always tell me to tell you that, Mimi! I promise, you look beautiful!”
“Yeah, right! I look beautiful - I look like a whale!”
“Mimi…”
When dinner was served, it was quiet around the dining table. The feast Mimi had normally planned was cancelled, and all the courses were reduced to one plate of salad for each member of the crew. Taichi looked around the table to see Mimi sulking over her plate, Yamato staring daggers, Jou eyeing everyone with confusion, and Koushiro giving a nervous, apologetic smile.
