ppl who are like “there’s no way sokka’s art skills would improve, he’s ontologically bad at art” ummmm. dude. you realize that this is the mary sue of hobbies, right? this guy could out-westley westley. he would develop an immunity to iocane powder in less than a week because he’s just that prodigious. he became a kyoshi warrior who could best their leader in a matter of hours, and this was the first time he had ever trained in his life with an actual teacher and opponent. he mastered the sword in one day, if we’re to take piandao’s word for it (and considering his name is literally sword, he is clearly an expert). sokka looked at the rough schematics for hot air balloons after the eminent inventor in the world had spent who knows how long not able to get his idea to actually work like “uhhh…. this may sound obvious, but have you tried a lid???” he has borderline supernatural aim with a boomerang. he was dropped into a haiku battle knowing nothing about the form, and not only beat the leader of ba sing se’s premier haiku club, but also chose, completely unnecessarily, to make each verse rhyme. if he actually sat down and practiced drawing, maybe with some instruction from a trained artist, or easier beginner’s materials than ink and a brush (you’ve all seen my art, and I still cannot paint with ink and a brush), I think sokka would easily be able to produce a work on par with (if not superior to) the mona lisa by the following morning.
annual reminder that the meta reason for why Percy's birthday is August 18th is that mid-August is the height of the Perseids meteor shower every year. Named as such because the meteors appear to emanate from the constellation Perseus, of course named for the Greek mythological hero that Percy was named after.
unfortunately for jon snow, the role of "dead girl haunting the narrative" is already occupied by his mother, father, brother, sister, uncle, grandmother and step mother x2 so he's going to have to be forcibly resurrected :/
Okay but to be FAIR to Sam. He IS loreboy and he does do research for hours and hours on end and Dean is very capable of doing research but he is not looking at books for 17 hours straight unless he absolutely has to. But Sam will be doing that because he’s like a dog with a bone and has an insatiable appetite for learning facts and histories and acquiring knowledge and I think Dean looks at him reading for 17 hours and goes “I am not doing that” and then cooks them some bacon.
on the topic of official art, here's a fun little tidbit for you
fallout shelter online is a mobile game that features a lot of painted character art. there are a few artists in the mix, but the pictures i'm posting were painted by Jay Li. here's the ingame art, what you'd see if you installed
nick looks very smooth and glossy, conventionally handsome. the thing is, if you go to Li's artstation...
interesting, right! those first two images are in there as well, before they were changed
"average person spends $400 on Black Friday" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person spends $49.95 per Black Friday. Sherman Georg, who lives in his immortal mother's mansion & spends $44,999 on 850 Wiggly dolls, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
Thinking many many thoughts about how Jean was Riko's partner for a YEAR and was still rooming with Goon #3. Because that was how unwilling Riko was to let go of Kevin. And how that implies that Jean was placed as his partner both because of the practicality of Kevin being gone AND as a punishment for letting him go in the first place. Being partners with Jean could actually slow Riko down depending on how often he's hurt (because I don't think Riko was all that exempt from the rules to the point where his partner's performance would completely not matter) and he was still placed there. Riko was just THAT angry at him over Kevin's escape. And all the while he was keeping Kevin's side of room like an altar, even back when he didn't even think Kevin could PLAY, because of an injury he caused.
Sorry for the watermark, but I just had to snip this absolutely adorable moment from "Into the Light" from the 2019 Tokaigi concert. To me, it almost looked like a private little dance between them; like Marina did a little curtesy, and then Pearl a little bow, like she was inviting Marina to dance . . . but then, given the conversation that followed the song, I think it was actually a little pantomime of how Marina tried to introduce herself to Pearl when they first met (when she didn't speak Inkling yet), and Pearl invited Marina to come with her so she could show Marina Inkling culture (despite not speaking Octarian herself)!
Well, regardless of what that adorable little bit was, things certainly did get kinda intimate for a moment there 🩵🩷
