Kirk and spock are soooo low maintenence you have no idea
#random thoughts#star trek#sorry im thinking about the sex lives of the captain and his second in command rn#kirk? absolute pillow princess. he does not want to do ANYTHING.#he will let spock manhandle him and push his face into the matress and he will be GRATEFUL#he does not want to do shit or jack. he has had so much sex over the years and has done so much weird shit he's tired guys (he's like 36)#the most active kirk gets is when he sucks spock off under his desk okay he's fucking lazy#god he's probably so into cockwarming. he doesn't want to come he just wants to sit there and be full#he's fine with whatever but if he has to use his core muscles or pelvis in any way shape or form he'll be so brave about it (he's so mad)#spock is just happy to be here tbh#spock likes touching!!! he does not like to be touched. he must initiate the touching.#spock wants to touch and to rake and to bite and to absolutely fuck up kirk's back#(taking a break here i think eventually after like twenty years they gradually stop having regular sex. queens of lesbian bed death)#he wants to sit on kirk's lap and go absolutely mad dog at his neck. bark and growl even#ideal scenario for spock is for kirk to just not acknowledge whatever shit he's doing he does not want to be PERCEIVED#so what if he grabs kirk's hand and puts it on his face. what are you a cop#he WILL grab kirk's hand and kiss EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS FINGERS and kirk will NOT DO SHIT SO HELD HIM GOD#he will do some shit and absolutely not acknowledge it even if kirk brings it up#'spock what in the world are you doing' 'i don't know what you mean captain' and he WILL do it again#kirk does NOT have to do anything#god they've probably dabbled in somnophilia. spock would be so into it#like it's not that spock DOESN'T want kirk to be involved when they have sex. but like.#spock doesn't like it when people watch him work#he probably watches kirk sleep sometimes. pokes his face to watch it twitch like touching a snail's eye stalk.#i dont think they have conversations about sex. like actual in-depth conversations#spock tries but kirk usually gets so awkward about it he agrees to whatever just to get spock to shut up about it#kirk: communication is key to a healthy relationship except when i do it specifically with spock#spock is just so. CLINICAL. it's hard to listen to (if you know what i mean)#spock has used kirks aversion to talking about sex to his advantage (used it to unknowingly make him agree to upgrades to the science wing)#kirk probably likes voyeurism. spock feels weird about kirk watching him masturbate

I mean you can make the argument for jackie chan not doing much either, i mean all he did was jump on shaq's back and deflecting a bullet from batman before colliding with lincoln in the air and getting blasted with a care bear stare
This also isnt taking into account that we don't know what Gandalf the Grey, Gandalf the White, Monty Python and the Holy Grail's black knight, Benito Mussolini, the Blue Meanie, Cowboy Curtis, Jambi the Genie, Robocop, The Terminator, Captain Kirk, Darth Vader, Lo-pan, Superman, every single Power Ranger, Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan, Spock, The Rock, Doc Ock, and Hulk Hogan all did during the fight against Chuck Norris, for all we know one of them died immediately without a chance to do much of anything against him
both ridiculous assertions.
1. a summary of what Aaron Carter can be extracted from what you wrote about what Jackie Chan did, showing its very plainly less:
Tumblr media
the things underlined in blue are things Aaron did (besides dying) the things underlined in red are things Jackie did (besides dying)
2. within the logic that is operated on within the world of TUSOUD, Chuck Norris is a divine being, who quite literally descends from heaven before effortlessly killing two of the already established main contenders. i'd consider the participation in the destruction of a heavenly entity, even if you did it with help, is more impressive than jumping an NBA superstar (NBA superstars being slightly weaker than gods typically).

Star Trek fanfic recs
A long list of some of my all time favorite Star Trek fics. Not in any order. I just combed through my ao3 bookmarks for fics that still resonate with me and really blew me away. I will try to tag the authors if I can find blogs for them. If you know an authors blog I haven’t tagged, please tag them!
I dont have the spoons to write lil reviews for each fic bc theres toooooo many but maybe I’ll come back and edit some in sometime.
And eventually I’m gonna make a list like this for Sherlock Holmes and a few other fandoms. Also want to make one specific to podfics. We’ll see what happens first! This took me way longer than I thought it would…
Recs below the cut!
Star Trek TOS and AOS
The Thousandth Man (56187 words) by Ophelia_j In the wake of pon farr, the events on Vulcan are weighing heavy on Spock and his Captain. But will their attempt to fix the problem only make things worse?
The effect of sucrose on Vulcans (2290 words) by Ophelia_j After a successful diplomatic mission, Jim begins to suspect there's something wrong with Spock. Some Old Married Spirk Fluff for the 2019 OMS Challenge, for the awesome plaidshirtjimkirk.
The Eleventh Hour (8551 words) by Ophelia_j During a joint lecture at the Academy, Spock senses that Kirk is growing tired of the secrecy around their relationship and takes steps to resolve the matter.
A Crazy Little Thing Called Love (14940 words) by VTsuion The development of Kirk and Spock's relationship over the course of The Original Series, told in a series of off-screen moments.
The World Turned Upside Down (24777 words) by Jenna Hilary Sinclair On a planet torn by civil war, Kirk must battle insurgents, a Vulcan Healer, and his own heartbreak to find his way to Spock.
The Ren shat'var Trilogy (184,403 words) by CateAdams A split-second decision changes Jim's life forever, as he enters into a bond with Spock in the face of certain torture. Enemies to the Federation emerge from unlikely places, and the command team must contend with unexpected threats, as well as challenges within their own intense relationship. In this three-part series, the Enterprise races across the galaxy to confront the unknown, and Jim and Spock discover the true significance of their unprecedented connection.
First, Best Destiny - Parts One and Two (387733 words) by Ophelia_j A novel-length retelling of original Star Trek canon through the lens of one of the greatest relationships ever committed to film. Using missing scenes, episode tags, and original story-telling. Ultimately a Generations fix-it.
All the Time in the World (27856 words) by LSPINGLES The death of Edith Keeler affects Kirk and Spock in different ways. Spock invites Kirk to come with him to Vulcan to heal. Along the way the learn something about their feelings for each other.
Spice (276553 words) by eimeo Its a question of biology. Vulcan biology. The problem with falling in love with a member of an insanely private species is that it just might take you the best part of a five year mission to work out that the feelings are requited. And then you might discover that he’s already decided that the two of you can never be together. And what are you supposed to do if he won’t tell you why?
Fulfilling the Needs of the One (Or the Both) (8741 words) by plaidshirtjimkirk Spock begins to wonder if his relationship with Jim has been one-sided in his own favor.
Touch Upon the Wonders that You See (4071 words) by waldorph Sarek does not always understand his son, but that does not mean he does not love him.
Entering Orbit (30957 words) by museaway Jim escapes to Iowa to avoid the media frenzy following the Narada incident, but a late-night miscommunication results in Spock turning up on his front porch.
Something Smart to Do (21322 words) by kianspo In which Jim finds himself fake-married to his first officer every other month. It's not his fault. Mostly. Dowries and Klingons are involved. Starfleet is decidedly not amused.
Don't Stop Believing (205901 words) by kianspo The story follows Spock from his own days as a cadet at Starfleet Academy to the ‘present day’ when he’s Kirk’s first officer and the Enterprise is on its five-year mission. Essentially, the story of Spock’s first real love followed by the story of him finding the love of his life. Ad astra per aspera.
And Then I Let It Go (10632 words) by kianspo Post-Star Trek Beyond. The crew of the Enterprise gets a breather while they are waiting for their new ship. Jim uses the time to do something he had sworn he would never do.
The Lotus Eaters (93594 words) by aldora89 Stranded on the planet Sigma Nox while searching for a missing away team, Spock and Kirk find themselves pitted against a disturbing native life form. With the captain out of commission on a regular basis and Spock struggling to preserve his stoicism, staying alive is difficult enough – but when a slim chance for escape surfaces, their resolve is truly put to the test. Together they must fight for survival in the heart of an alien jungle, and in the process, uncover the mystery of the planet’s past. Slow build K/S.
Atlas (135529 words) by distractedKat Between what was and what will be stands James Tiberius Kirk, in all his fractured patchwork glory. Because saving the Federation was only the beginning. A novel-length continuation of the 2009 movie told in four parts. Cross-posted from FFN. PODFIC AVAILABLE! https://archiveofourown.org/works/652116/chapters/1187249
The Word Withheld (12032 words) by j_s_cavalcante After retrieving Kirk from the interspatial rift of "The Tholian Web," Spock realizes his oath to Starfleet and his service aboard the Enterprise are in jeopardy because he has denied to himself—and withheld from Kirk—a certain truth about the nature of the Vulcan relationship called "t’hy’la."
this is what happens when you save earth, apparently (5454 words) by WerewolvesAreReal “So, why haven't you settled down with some lucky lady yet?” the interviewer asks. Maybe it's the blinding set-lights, or the fact that he hasn't slept in thirty-five hours. But for some reason Kirk blurts, “Honestly, they all end up getting jealous of Spock.”
Four times the Enterprise Crew didn´t realize that their commanding officers were married to each other and one time they finally found out (4130 words) by razzleberryicedtea In which Spock and Jim casually forget to mention that they are married, and the Enterprise crew is too oblivious to notice on their own
A Star to Steer By (32043 words) by Borealisblue Kidnapped, injured, and headed towards Romulan space, Kirk could only be grateful that his last act was saving Spock from the same fate. And all it had cost was a stolen kiss.
An Open Secret (3495 words) by TransScribe Amanda Grayson knew her son. She could read him, easily. That might've been why she had suspicions about his relationship long before he said anything. It was more likely because subtlety was not a trait Spock had inherited.
the book of love (7297 words) by miss_frankenstein When yet another away mission goes awry, Jim and Spock are left stranded on a hostile planet with nothing to do but talk. What follows is a conversation about art and literature, life and death, love and friendship.
Take My Hand (My Whole Life Too) (5981 words) by pastmydancingdays Whilst in one of the most dangerous situations of his life, Jim Kirk came to a realisation that he should have had a very long time ago. Two, in fact, and he was about to let neither go to waste. A potential epilogue to Amok Time.
Ashayam (3378 words) by Willowe Spock knows he has no right to refer to Jim as any sort of endearment, even in the privacy of his own thoughts. If he had only listened to this logic he wouldn't find himself in this position, standing on the bridge having just called his captain "ashayam".

Watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 10, Hegemony
I believe this is the s2 finale, so let's go!
Tumblr media
I love how they mentioned the singing from the last episode 😂
Why am I kinda shipping Batel and Chapel
I feel like Captain Batel is gonna die
HOLY SHIT
IT'S THE GLOW CLOUD
Tumblr media
Or the Gorn
Oh shit, Batel's ship blew up 👀
Chris doesn't have much luck when it comes to romance, it seems
Nitrogen bombs + Gorn = Gorn Popsicles
Erica is a genius😂
Quite the memorable first landing party for her to take part in😂
The fact Spock plans to add zombie movies to his research is so funny to me😂
Also, the fact that he's seen movies, makes me think (or hope) he and his mama watched Alice In Wonderland because he loved the book
I love how everyone (especially Pike) felt sick after Erica's driving/diving
If anything happens to her, I'm gonna be very grumpy
Aw man, Spock is so upset that he doesn't know what happened to Chapel
Tumblr media
"Sickbay is gone" CHILLS LITERAL CHILLS
Tumblr media
Spock ^
Wow, the planet really turned into a Wasteland 👀
Awwww the baby Gorn is kinda cute!
This is why I would never survive a zombie/Gorn apocalypse/invasion
Tumblr media
Ooof, cannibalism
PELIA MY BELOVED
Tumblr media
^ I love her in case it wasn't obvious
The way Pelia turned to Uhura like what did you figure out then turned away like ugh don't waste my time(when Uhura mentioned she needs an engineers help) then turn around when Uhura said she had a crazy theory 😂
I feel like Pelia and Raffi would get along famously
SCOTTY
HELL YEAH
Scotty: "That's a lot of lieutenants."
Erica: "There'll be a quiz."
BATEL IS STILL ALIVE
WOO
I love Scotty 😂
I love how Scotty is so crafty and resourceful
Pelia to Una: "And if you had answered like that in my class I would've given you an A+"
Una: -_-
I love how Batel knew exactly what Pike was up to when he thought she was sleeping
Pike and Batel: * having a slightly emotional conversation about not going alone to look for stuff/Pike trying to save everyone, ending with them looking flirtatiously at each other in silence*
Tumblr media
Scotty, lurking behind Batel: "You're never gonna be able to retrieve the device without my help"
Batel and Pike: °_°
Scotty: "I didn't mean to eavesdrop. Not my fault you decided to have a secret conversation right in front of my sleeping spot."😂
CHRISTINE!!!!!!
The fact that it's Majel Barrett(I think) doing the voice for the computer while this Chapel is plugging things into the computer makes me so happy
Chapel: *banging on glass trying to get Spock's attention*
Spock: *casually floats by not noticing*
Damn, Batel's got a strong stomach I would've gotten sick being that close to that Gorn
IS BETAL GORN OR SOMETHING AND THAT'S WHY IT LEFT HER ALONE
OH SHIT
SPOCK SAW THE REFLECTION OF THE GORN
Uh oh, it took his gun
Whoa, the Gorn was also wearing a space suit, cool
Oh no, did Marie get Gorn eggs planted in her and that's why it left👀
OH SHIT SHE DID
Tumblr media
Batel this episode ^
That's why she was so upset Chris came for her😭😭
I love that Scotty interrupted them 😂
Ooooooo Pelia is required in sickbay
PELIA KNOWS SCOTTY?!She cringed when Pike said his name😂Pelia: "One of my best students who sadly received some of my worst grades."
Pike: "Well, I'll leave you to it" *speed walks away*😂
Pelia, shaking her head looking at the jumble in Scotty's arms: "What the hell is this supposed to be?!"
Scotty in a voice similar to a child whining to their parent: "Something that could help us hide from the Gorn."
Pelia: "Oh"
Scotty: "If we can fix it."
Batel to Chapel: "I'll need you to take me out." Okay, it's a date then😁🤗
Wait the Gorn still have their people? I thought they rescued the surviving Starfleet officers?🤔
Idk it brings me such joy to see Pelia helping carry Scotty's project in the halls as things blow up, but it does
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? IT'S A CLIFFHANGER?!!!!
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Tumblr media
This is fine.

STAR TREK UPDATE TIME!!! thursday we watched tng's "emergence" and ds9's "crossover" (honorific)
emergence (tng):
I HATE HOLODECK EPISODES. i wanted season 7 to go out on a high note. nostalgia and time would have made me forget so many of tng's sins if it had gone out on a high note
girl, the enterprise CAME TO LIFE, had a baby, and then died, and nobody had anything to say about that except "ok let the baby fly into space hope it has a good life!"
the enterprise and moya from farscape could have raised their children together communally. like feral cats.
if kirk had been captain when the enterprise came to life he would NOT have let that baby fly into space. he would have gotten one of those little toddler leashes. he would have paid child support. he's not the step dad he's the dad who stepped up
i honestly don't remember what else happened here because the following episode blew my tits clean off
oh yeah wait i think it was racist to make worf shovel the coal. shame on them. data's way stronger than worf he should have been doing it he would have been like yay i love a novel experience :) i can add this to my file on coal shoveling :)
crossover (ds9):
WORLD'S LONGEST YEAH BOY
no, i'm just going to abandon my bullet points. where do i even begin...you know, actually, let's begin at the beginning, which is the tos mirrorverse episode. i have a wider meta on this in me somewhre i bet but it wasn't always this way! i like, initially watched this, went, "huh! that was neat," and thought no more about it until i read a fanfic (don't ask for it i'm not telling, it was more like 2-3 fanfics honestly) and then i was like WAIT HOLD ON A SECOND. see, my fascination with mirrorverse comes primarily from the following hypothesis:
everyone always says that bones in mirrorverse and bones in the prime universe are the same guy and that makes him god's specialest princess, which i don't disagree with! but i think, deep down, EVERYONE is the same. i think mirrorverse (quite accidentally) provides a pretty compelling commentary on both nature vs nurture and the cycle of violence. kirk, who undoubtedly went to a much worse version of tarsus iv in the mirrorverse, becomes a guy slaughtering colonists by the thousands, because in his mind that's what power looks like and being powerful means being safe. spock, who is brought up to believe violence is logical instead of pacifism, follows that doctrine just as strictly as he sticks to his morals in the prime universe, and indulges in his emotions just as rarely, because in either case he is punished just as much, if not more, for going against vulcan and human social norms.
put the same guys in the opposite situation (ie a mirror) and they will turn out as their own twisted reflections every time. mirror kirk is just as driven to succeed, just at a different game. he has just as much of a temper, but without the apologies that come afterward. he's just and dangerous and as handy in a fight as prime kirk, but without the moral compass that has him pulling punches instead of a knife. he has that same desire for power, though it's to protect himself rather than to protect other people. mirror spock is just as sharp and calculating, he's just running different numbers, after different results. he's just as good at sussing out emotional motives because of his forced distance from them, but he has spent a lifetime being rewarded for exploiting the emotions of others instead of trying to understand them. he even shares the same preference for being the first officer instead of in command, though the two spocks have differing reasons for this. you could even argue that he has the same capacity for loyalty, inasmuch as it's safe or possible to be loyal in the mirrorverse; he avoids trying to kill kirk as much as he possibly can, and when he finds out "his" kirk is gone, immediately does everything in his power to see to getting him back where he belongs. the mirror characters aren't opposites; they're reflections, inversions. they started out as the same base thing. they were made ugly and evil by their circumstances.
we didn't get to see much of mirror kirk and none of mirror bones (to my eternal woe), but knowing mirror spock DID ultimately take action towards pacifism and reform is extremely damning evidence for this hypothesis, at least in my mind palace. our own spock is defined by his compassion and selflessness; he gave his life in the warp core because the needs of the many outweighed his own needs. mirror spock is running the calculation in the other direction; he is thinking of his own needs. yet he comes to the SAME CONCLUSION - it is important for people to be safe, because logically nothing else can hold.
i notice that they carefully avoided saying whether or not spock ACTUALLY killed kirk, and i love that, because i loved the open-ended nature of the original mirrorverse episode - i loved that we could imagine anything happening. kirk dying or becoming a better person or becoming a worse person. i'm a little sad to have finally lost that, but i love that we can still just as gleefully imagine spock shoving a pole through kirk's ribs (in the horny way) or them being little rebels with bones and fighting the system together. ooooh and you better BELIEVE i had to pause the episode and cover my face and take a moment to have my hysterics when they implied mirror spock may have killed mirror kirk bc our kirk asking mirror spock to kill his other self was one of the horniest things tos ever did, up there with amok time and that stupid bondage harness.
speaking of horny, let's get into the actual episode. this episode was so abjectly fucking horny it's ASTOUNDING. it's mind-blowing. i think lesbian kira-on-kira was ABSOLUTELY the way to go as far as introductions. and kira-on-kira PROVES MY HYPOTHESIS!!! mirror kira has the same sympathy for her human laborers (the downtrodden), just not extended further than she extends sympathy for herself. she is also, like our kira, into girls. AND she is seduced by the idea of giving power to a weak bajor. kira's love affair with herself was probably the best part of this episode, number one because women and number two because they understood each other SO well except mirror kira was just unstable enough to be scary. and kira being like a little scared of her and them still being gay was really problematic and horny of them. fun. god. like, BATH SCENE?? HELLO??? i hope nana visitor had the time of her fucking life
mirror garak is also basically the same guy. this is just pre-exile garak. he's so conniving and gay. he didn't even do any of that seductive shit to our kira. why? he's not into girls!
i'm so sorry odo and quark didn't get a better lot in this verse. they don't come back either i checked :( odo was kind of boring, unfortunately, except for3 points: firstly, him slapping julian like 3 times was also problematic but horny. secondly, the goop he exploded into. rip king. (and kira moruning him!! otp.) thirdly, this is odo's disdain and lack of understanding for humanity (humanoidanity?) multiplied by 1000x. this is not an odo who was forced to get to know us and saw that some of us needed the protection he had to live without and now had the power to give, this is an odo who was experimented on and probably killed dr mora on his way out of the facility, and is looking to dish some out instead of take it. FUN. our odo makes hands to touch people with. this odo makes hands to slap people with. rip to that guy and i was absolutely shocked that a do-no-harm DOCTOR killed him but honestly there's probably a net good in that for our julian.
quark running the metaphorical underground railroad out here also seems to echo him selling food to bajorans...also, his, outfit? it made him look like a good person. it's a wonder it took them so long to catch him. our quark is selfish because he sees it as a path to a good life. their quark is selfLESS for the same reason, see? also SCREAM that our kira was like yes we're BESTIES on the other side when she often tells him how much she despises him lmao
o'brien!!! god i wish we had seen more of him but i LOVED him and julian being besties here too. he was like youre NOT my friend and then 20 minutes later helping him escape. it's like he was a sleeper agent, he got one whiff or someone who could afford to have a moral compass and instantly he was like actually yeah humans deserve better than this! i love that julian was just gonna take him back and have two obrien besties and fuck starfleet if they didn't like it lol. obrien secretly also the same, and i'm really glad he got to at least escape w sisko to become a pirate or whatever.
HEY. BY THE WAY. PIRATE SISKO. SO FUN AND EDGY. he was really unhinged and kind of like a lunatic. cw for discussion of rape the rest of this paragraph. so i think there was a light implication via his body language and also "you charmed your way out of the mines" that he was NOT enjoying/consenting to the sex he was having with mirror kira, but very much enjoyed the opportunity to menace her counterpart, and other people, like obrien. again, like odo, he is tired of taking it and itching to dish soem out. UNLIKE odo, we see that he has people he loves! he says "i made the best of a bad life for my crew" and even shakes his head at one of his crew members who is about to do something that will get them hurt - he's also happy enough to take obrien, former target, under his wing on the way out, when he sees something worthy there. JUST LIKE OUR SISKO, he IS protective and he DOES value his people! i loved seeing that core of him, even though his outside was deranged in a fun evil way.
ok, to finally wrap this up, bashir giving away his plate of mush at mealtime because he's gonna get to go back to a nice cozy universe soon (or die) and these people won't is soooo. god. he's SO COMPASSIONATE......like i knew that objectively but we haven't really seen it in action much up until now. it fucking kills me. his compassion, inherent Good Universe vibes, has such a profound impact on mirror obrien in such a short time, but ultimately you CAN'T change this universe. you can affect single people in it, the way kirk got mirror spock, but the point of the mirrorverse is to be evil and edgy (and horny), so no matter WHAT the characters in it do, it is a LAW OF THAT UNIVERSE that powers beyond their comprehension will always reset the status quo to STAY evil and edgy (and horny). like at first i was like oh shit kirk really stepped in it nice job breaking it hero but like it simply CAN'T be fixed. if you try, you will fail. determinism in star trek. wild.
also, wait, sorry, julian coming back filthy head to toe and kira coming back in a ballgown when our sisko has been having kittens trying to locate his people.....iconic. mister privileged having to process ore like kira used to do and kira former ore processor wearing a fancy luxurious evening gown. talk about swapping places.
TONIGHT: tng's "preemptive strike" and ds9's "the collaborator." last non-finale episode of tng!!!

Watching Star Trek TOS and loving it! Sex pollen!!
The Return of the Archons
Jim Spock shenanigans shenanigans it was ok enough.
Gotta say I'm all for criticism of organized religion
.
Space Seed
So I met Khan (not the Benedict Cumberbatch whitewashed version)! The episode was good, lots of good dialogue, a solid plot and an uncertain ending (kofkof uncertain for them).
The toxic masculinity vibes were off the charts though:
First, I'm not commenting on McGivers instantly falling for the hyper masculine guy, accepting his abusive behaviour and choosing to stay with him; because if I do, I'll get mad. But you know, it's terrible and I hate it.
Then the admiration for Khan, "the best and most dangerous of the tyrants" expressed by Scotty, Bones and Jim. Sigh. Of course it's all three of them, the only one out being Spock ("Illogical"). We're supposed to take away that it's because he doesn't feel the human/manly appeal of courage, ambition, greatness or whatever. Honestly not even IC? (sorry but I don't want to picture Jim and Bones as real life fans of Napoleon lmao they are the worst)
SPOCK: Gentlemen, this romanticism about a ruthless dictator is KIRK: Mister Spock, we humans have a streak of barbarism in us. Appalling, but there, nevertheless. SCOTT: There were no massacres under his rule. SPOCK: And as little freedom. MCCOY: No wars until he was attacked. SPOCK: Gentlemen.
You tell them Spock!
MCCOY: Well, either choke me or cut my throat. Make up your mind.
Instant classic
MCCOY: Well, there aren't any regulations against romance, Jim.
Duly noted!
Jim thinking he and the bridge crew were dying and recommending commendations in his log? Him being in the decompression chamber being murdered? I was on the verge of tears then
Tumblr media
jsbfjhe i'm sorry i can't take it seriously this shot is so funny
SPOCK: Surprised to see you Captain, though pleased. JIM: I'm a little pleased myself
they're so dumb (lovingly)
SPOCK: It would be interesting, Captain, to return to that world in a hundred years and to learn what crop has sprung from the seed you planted today. KIRK: Yes, Mister Spock, it would indeed.
Tumblr media
.
A Taste of Armageddon
Wow the plot's heavy but powerful. The whole episode is dark but hopeful ending! (plus pissed off Jim is v sexy)
Tumblr media
Death, destruction, disease, horror. That's what war is all about, Anan. That's what makes it a thing to be avoided. You've made it neat and painless. So neat and painless, you've had no reason to stop it. And you've had it for five hundred years.
I've given you back the horrors of war.
Ending a 500-year war is just one of many things Captain Kirk does!
And of course:
SPOCK: Captain, you almost make me believe in luck. KIRK: Why, Mister Spock, you almost make me believe in miracles.
I love them ._.
.
This Side of Paradise
OMG OMG IT'S HAPPENING THIS IS NOT A DRILL!! SEX POLLEN!!!
The perfect mix of fun and tension in this episode! Loved it!
Jim's confusion at Spock is everything. When he says "Spock" - clears his throat - "Mr Spock"
Jim being his dramaqueen self "In effect, I am marooned here."
Jim's immunity is his sense of duty what a goody two-shoes (affectionate)
The idea that anger/strong emotion is necessary ties up nicely to The Enemy within
Then the scene... You know which one... Did I have to pause because Jim was being so mean to Spock it was a bit much to watch? maybe!!
SPOCK: You did that to me deliberately. KIRK: Believe me, Mister Spock, it was painful in more ways than one.
My heart!
SPOCK: Captain. Striking a fellow officer is a court martial offence. KIRK: Well, if we're both in the Brig, who's going to build the subsonic transmitter? SPOCK: That is quite logical, Captain.
Sooo dumb <3
The scene between Layla and Spock was lovely too!
Tumblr media
MCCOY: Well, that's the second time man's been thrown out of paradise. KIRK: No, no, Bones. This time we walked out on our own. Maybe we weren't meant for paradise. Maybe we were meant to fight our way through. Struggle, claw our way up, scratch for every inch of the way.
This after the reference to Milton two eps ago! Yes! Yes to all of this!!!

A Whovian Watches Star Trek for the First Time: Part 094 - Short Treks Speed Round
Okay, three of these before the next full length episode, and they're like 10 minutes a piece, so let's just blast through them.
Star Trek: Short Treks - Season 2 Episode 5 - The Girl Who Made the Stars
Tumblr media
So this one was a simple story a father telling his daughter a bedtime story after she had a nightmare. It was pretty wholesome. I don't really have much to say about the story itself, but the animation on this one was beautiful. I loved the imagery of the night beast, and the colours once the light appeared were beautiful.
I'm curious what significance this has to the wider worldbuilding of Star Trek. Is the light being something we'll see again, or is the legend abstract for something? If nothing like, I'm assuming we'll either the girl or her father again at some point. Regardless, this one was great!
Star Trek: Short Treks - Season 1 Episode 3 - The Brightest Star
Tumblr media
This one is set in some sort of Seaweed farming village from a species I don't recognise, but the Short later identifies them as Kelpians. Apparently this village regularly happily sacrifices it's members to a giant crystal thing.
I love the Kelpians designs, and it's nice seeing a new race's culture, and seeing this short's main character question his culture's main Tenets was really interesting to see. We see this Kelpian basically reverse engineer technology that fell from the stars, and acidentally making first contact for his species. Him saying goodbye to his sister was really heartbreaking, but eventually he is picked up by a human shuttlepod.
I'm assuming the fact that he left with the Captain to join Starfleet means he'll be part of the crew for Discovery, and having someone from a pre-warp society be part of the main actually sounds like a really interesting Idea, I hope I'm right.
Star Trek: Short Treks - Season 2 Episode 1 - Q&A
Tumblr media
In this one, we get a brief glimpse of the crew of Enterprise. I finally get to meet Spock! Apparently, it's very early in his career and he's only just been assigned as the Enterprise's Science Officer, to serve under a Captain Pike. This one wasn't doing it for me, I'm assuming it's one that's better you know the characters. It was really fun to see Spock fulfil Number 1's wish of asking questions "to the point of becoming an annoyance" was fun to see though.
It was pretty much just a classic sit-com style stuck in an elevator story, with Sci-Fi flavour. Wasn't bad, wasn't really good either.
On the whole, I really liked these Short Treks as a format, just little snippets of world building and character building to build thing up and flesh them out! Plus, it's given me some stuff to get excited about for the future!

SNW's unwillingness to free itself from canon is best illustrated in this image: it is presented as triumphant, Uhura clearly deciding that her place in in Starfleet, that her place is here on the bridge of the Enterprise. But we the audience know that, practicably speaking, her only place ends-up here. Outside of that one quasi-canonical TAS episode where she gets to command the Enterprise, by the TOS era Uhura will—functionally speaking—almost never leave this chair. In episode after episode her only job will be to say 'hailing frequencies open, captain' and nothing else. MLK famously had to beg Nichelle Nichols to stay in the role because he thought it so important for racist 1960s white America to see a professional black woman so prominently on television. His logic makes sense, but from 2023, examining TOS from the perspective of character in a world with better racial casting (in Star Trek, I mean: whatever NuTrek's flaws, its commitment to racial diversity has been really good), TOS' Uhura is barely more than a prop. No wonder Nichols wanted to quit: she's ill-used in almost every TOS episode and absolutely in every film. Frankly it feels like the 'glorious future' SNW is pushing Uhura towards is one informed by an understanding of the character as she exists in the broader realm of fandom, not the crummy reality of the text. This is why I find SNW's approach to canon so frustrating: it wants to break free and do its own thing, to tell fresh stories and have exciting new takes on familiar characters who never got the chance to really shine—but it keeps reflexively shoving TOS-is-our-canonical-future in our face: remember the Gorn? Remember Talos IV? Remember what will happen in The Menagerie? Remember how Spock and Chapel will be kind of romantic in one episode once in the first season and then it'll largely be forgotten about? Remember? REMEMBER? For all the legacy characters other than Spock, the 'future' of Strange New Worlds is death. Literal, in some cases—we know Sam Kirk's going to wind-up a blink-and-you'll-miss it corpse in Operation -- Annihilate!., and crispy Pike's fate is framed entirely as essentially death (abelist issues there for sure). The death is figurative in others: Uhura and Chapel will lurk in the background saying 'comms open' and 'yes, doctor.' M'Benga will get demoted to McCoy's deputy, show up in two episodes, and then never be mentioned again. That's not a future worth arriving at. Not for these more dynamic and interesting versions of these characters. So why do it? Why make these characters people who will end up as nothing? No matter how satisfying SNW's Uhura's story is, why do you want to link her to a future so narratively sterile for her? Does she not deserve better? I like TOS. I love TOS. It's often thoughtful and meaningful television, full of issues, plagued by actor egos, Roddenberry's sclerotic management, and all sorts of production problems—but at its best, when everything aligned, it is some of the most important television of its era. It has endured for generations for a reason. But that doesn't mean every element is good: the bridge crew outside of the triumvirate get more to do than the poor bridge crew of Discovery, but not by much. SNW keeps trying to chart a middle path between two better options, ending-up with a deeply unsatisfying worst of both worlds: not canon enough to satisfy the not insignificant portion of the fanbase for whom that's a serious concern (and for whom that's the entire fun of a prequel: spending more time in an era they know and love), but too canon-reliant to be unburdened by it. 'Here's our version of Uhura, but don't worry everyone, she might seem different but we promise that one day she'll be the woman who does nothing for a whole season other than sit in a chair with a dookickey in her ear and answer her boss' space phonecalls." Uhura looks at that console as her future, but all I want to do is scream "RUN! RUN FAR, FAR AWAY AND NEVER RETURN!"

"What about you, Jim? Are you okay?"
"I don't know, Bones. He really expected me to save his world and his people. Me and no one else."
"No one could ever hold you to something like that. You're just one man - you can't bear that kind of responsibility alone."
Kirk shook his head. "It's not the responsibility that's eating at me. It's that he believed in me, Bones. The only other person who's ever come close to showing that kind of faith in me is Captain Pike."
"You cannot control what others believe about you," Spock said. "And one might argue that it is better to know oneself than to believe in oneself."
Too tired for riddles, Kirk asked, "What's your point, Spock?"
"Simply this: whatever you believe about Gveter-ren, your destiny, or anything else - is ultimately irrelevant. Whether one holds beliefs as a matter of conviction or as a means of consolation, all that matters is what one chooses to do."

Data
This is cuz i wanna spite someone in a discord server i am in into loving data, and they said they are now follow me to keep and eye on me idk why tho, this also hurt me cuz i love data.
@i-did-not-mean-to sorry in advance for this but this is most of the reasons why I love data and you should as well, and also maybe watch star trek, also i don't even know if i an persuading or not. plz read all the way through cuz I love data and you should two i also think these are good reasons.
Tumblr media
Reason number one
Data has an adorable ginger tabby cat called spot, He makes poetry of his cat and reads it to his crewmates who find it boring
Ode to spot - By Data Soong
Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature, An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature; Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses. I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations, A singular development of cat communications That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection. A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents; You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance. And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion, It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion. O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array. And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.
Reason number Two
Data Acts, and Loves Shakespeare, and he gets Captain picard to help
Reason number Three
he plays violin and paints, data is an artist and loves the arts well as much as an android with no capability of feelings can and he's good at them as well.
Reason number Four
HIS CHARACTER GROWTH, YOU CAN SEE IT SO MUCH AND IT'S ADORABLE.
Reason number Five
Emotion chip data is funny as shit
Reason number Six
even without his emotion chip data has emotions they may not be seen well but given he was an apathetic android who couldn't feel emotions at first he gain his own, like how he misses someone after they die or how he gets used to someone being around so much he forms a friendship with them and if they aren't around so much they are acquaintances
Reason number Seven
He's cute and adorable and everyone loves him, his actors also really nice in IRL (i know cuz i've met brent spiner)
Reason number Eight
He's one of star treks ways of showing autism in the Trek world and it is done so well.
Reason number Nine
His want and his need to find his Humanity even though he doesn't realize he has it, because Humanity isn't just about flesh and bone or Klingons would be as Human as we are, it's about what matters to them.
Reason number Ten
Data's relationship with other characters such as Geordi, Tasha Yar, Lore and Q
Reason number Eleven
His role not just as a crew member but in the show, sure star trek has a lot of technobabble which most of it is made up, but it also focuses on now a days kind of philosophical problems, an example is uhura and Kirks kiss which was the first interracial kiss or star trek voyager being the first show to have a respectable female lead, or now how discovery has Trans gender and nonbinary people in it or how it also says gay rights but it doesn't shove it in your face, Data Like spock points out autism admittedly it's not obvious or in your face but he does.
Reason number Twelve
He's also funny even when he doesn't mean to be (unless thats just my sense of humor)

would love to jump on your convo with that anon to say pike and una probably have known each other for so long ( i mean they did serve in USS Antares together for god knows how long ) and also they probably are the longest friendship and captain and xo on the star trek history?? maybe though i could be wrong.
Okay so, I've done some research.
All media-
Picard and Riker: 35 years
Kirk and Spock: 28 years
Pike and Una: 15+ years (unclear at this point)
Janeway and Chakotay: 12 years
Sisko and Kira: 6 years
Archer and T'Pol: 4 years
TV Shows only (as in, when the TV show ended, how long had they known each other)-
Pike and Una: 15+ years (+ how many years of SNW we get)
Janeway and Chakotay: 7 years
Picard and Riker: 6 years
Sisko and Kira: 6 years
Kirk and Spock: 5 years
Archer and T'Pol: 4 years
Below the cut for a detailed explanation on time frames and why I changed it to TV Show only to make it 'fair' and prove our PikeUna agenda.
Starting with Strange New Worlds, coz that's the one we care about here:
Captain Pike took command of the USS Enterprise in 2250.
Strange New Worlds Season One takes place in 2259.
So that's already NINE YEARS they've known each other (okay, granted, we don't know for sure that Number One has been his First Officer the entire time, but until proven otherwise, that's what I'm headcanonning - The Cage takes place in 2254 so I doubt he'd have had a different first officer for a couple of years before getting Number One).
However, they also served on the USS Antares together.
According to his service history in the Discovery episode 'Brother', Pike has served on the USS Antares, the USS Chatelet, and the USS Aryabhatta before serving under April on the Enterprise (as April's First Officer).
In the Strange New Worlds episode Memento Mori, Number One wears a USS Antares pin.
Now we don't know for sure that they served together on the Antares. But we do know that Una was an ensign on the King Jr. So it's probably fair to say they were both Lieutenants on the Antares together.
So they've probably known each other for 15+ years? Even if they weren't close until she became his First Officer (that's still 9ish years).
Now, let's look at the other Captains and First Officers. As far as I'm aware, they all met when the first officer became their first officer - season 1 of the relevant TV show.
Picard and Riker: 35 years
TNG is set 2364-2370. This is 6 years.
However, there's also the TNG movies. Nemesis (the last TNG movie) is set in 2379.
This is a time of 15 years. However, then there are the events of Star Trek: Picard, where Riker and Picard are still friends. This is set in 2399. This would be a timeframe of 35 years.
Janeway and Chakotay: 12 years
Voyager is set 2371-2378. This is 7 years.
However, they still know each other in the events of Star Trek Prodigy which takes place in 2383. This is a time of 12 years.
Sisko and Kira: 6 years
Deep Space Nine takes place over 6 years between 2369- 2375.
Archer and T'Pol: 4 years
Enterprise takes place over 4 years between 2151-2155.
Kirk and Spock: 28 years
Kirk is assigned captaincy of the Enterprise in 2265. Their 5 year mission obviously takes the time to 2270. Which is 5 years.
However, there's all the movies, up until they're quite old. The last movie, Star Trek VI, takes place in 2293. This is 28 years.
HOWEVER, this isn't exactly a fair way to look at it, since some of these (Kirk and Spock, and Picard and Riker) have movies/tv shows set into the characters older ages. Where as Strange New Worlds is set in the middle of Pike and Una's careers.
I'm not sure how you'd make it fair. If you take it from season 1 of the shows, then Pike and Una win by a very large margin. By the time Pike and Una reach old age (LA LA LA LA I'M NOT LISTENING TO YOU ABOUT PIKE'S ACCIDENT) they'll probably have known each other the longest out of all the captains and XOs.

Why are you following a twitter called Yaoi Polls??? 💀💀💀 lmao anyway, I get archive panic rather easily, so I don't really get into media unless it's a short canon or I rode the wave as it was starting. Like, those book series with 9 novels and counting? Or manga/anime like One Piece and the 16358 volumes/episodes? I just can't. I get too overwhelmed by that. However, I am intrigued by Star Trek. I want to join the Spirk navy lmao but I don't know where to start? There's too much canon. Help.
I'm following yaoi polls because I am a pacifist and hate war but crave violence. And because it gives me a chance to talk about my ships. But mostly it's for the violence.
Also, okay, there is too much Star Trek canon. And I am perhaps either a very wrong person to ask or perhaps a very right person to ask because I have.... dodged a lot of the Star Trek cnaon?
Like, if you like Trek, you're a real Trekkie, but if it was possible to be a fake fan... I would... dangle perilously close?
So, instead of giving you advice, I'm gonna tell you how I did it withotu being overwhelmed.
First, I got into star trek by watching hte "AOS" films, which are the three star trek films starring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk that came out starting in 2009. Three easy films to kind of dip you into the worldbuilding. These all feature characters (versions of characters) from The Original Series. They're "modernized" versions, so not necessarily the truest versions of themselves, but it's sort of like an intro course where you learn the basics and then if you go deeper, things get corrected or given nuance later on.
I decided, "I like these dudes, and I especially like Spock, I'm going to create a SCU--Spock Cinematic Universe."
So, I had tried watching the original series before and I'll admit, parts of it... aren't great? Some of it is problematic, some of it is just weird, and some of it is straight up boring.
TO kind of... help myself along, since I wasn't terribly invested in TOS yet, I looked up a few guides of "MUST WATCH TOS episodes" and a few "HEre's episodes you can skip." I compared notes, made my own ranking system sort of culminating htem all together (if one guide says definitely skip but another one says it's kinda fun, I know to give it a shot but not feel terrible if I zone out). TOS is VERY episodic, so going, "Huh, thi sisn't doing it for me," won't fuck you over MOST Of the time. But the guides help you figure out if actually you're gonna miss a huge moment of lore or spirk or whatever.
Most lists included which episodes of the animated series (based on TOS) you should bother with, that list is very sparse.
And then at this point, if you enjoyed it, youc an look into watching shit you missed out on or delving into novels (which I don't think are canon) or comics.
DO watch all of the subsequent movies, the first one is boring as fuck for a long while, but some of the ones after are AMAZING.
For a long while, this is where I put down Star Trek.
But then Discovery was introduced with a NEW Spock sibling and then SPock himself is in it. So I wathced the first two seasons (and intend on watching the rest) and then Strange New Worlds has ONE season... with Spock in it. So... I watched that.
And that's how I took a huge fucking canon and went "I want the parts with HIM in it" and ignored hte rest. Technically, I know Spock makes appearances in other series but like... none as Spock-centric as these.
I do intend on watching more Trek with time (TNG intrigues me, Deep Space Nine intrigues me) but like... I think Star Trek is very much what you want it ot be.
Sometimes, you're gonna be left clueless abotu references to past baddies or aliens or whatever (or sometimes FUTURE baddies or aliens) but like... it's fine? From what I've seen, ST canon can contradict itself or sort of... not mean anything sometimes, so like, take what you want, leave the rest. It'll be fine.

One of Spock’s most autistic-coded-character moments in Strange New Worlds:
Pike: “Do you want some coffee?” Spock: “I do not drink coffee. I do drink tea.” Pike: “All right. Would you like some tea?” Spock: “No, thank you, captain.”
😂 just clarifying the fact for accuracy even though he doesn’t want any

My #1 post of 2022
Ok, so I just watched Stranger Things 4 again but only the Robin/Steve/Nancy/Dustin/Max/Eddie/Lucas scenes, and I think that the writers 100% purposely made Robin autistic. I don't think it was accidental. Back in the 70s and 80s autism wasn't really a thing that doctors knew much about, and for YEARS they also thought only boys could have autism. So it's not going to be an actual thing in the story where Robin is like diagnosed or even suspects it, but there were too many autistic traits for it to be an accident. And I really like the way the writers did it. She's not nerdy or super awkward and overly quirky all the time. She is those things, but they're not "weird", if you know what I mean. But I remember the first time I watched it, the biggest thing that stuck out to me was when she kept asking Nancy if she was mad at her because Nancy was basically not being very friendly and Robin said she can't always tell if she annoys people because she's bad at picking up on social cues, which her mom reminds her of daily. Then there was the thing where she had to wear Nancy's clothes and she complained about how uncomfortable they were. Like she was so distracted the whole time because they felt scratchy and that the bra was digging into her… then she had a sensory overload outburst (sensory issues common in people with autism- commonly with clothes). Then when the police were escorting them out, the cop touched her arm when she turned to look at something and she spazzed out and sharply said "don't touch me" (autistic people commonly don't want to be touched or only like being touched on our terms). When Nancy said they had to run to the car and Robin said something like she's a bad runner because she has horrible coordination and it took her 6 months longer to learn to walk than all the other babies. And then how she would sometimes just interject in conversations with something super random and they'd all be like, "...okay?" Oh then when they were in the Upside-Down and trying to communicate with the others at the Wheeler's house, so they put their hands up to the lights and there was that like sparkly energy field around it or something, and someone said "It tingles" and Robin said, "It feels good." That's totally related to the sensory thing. I'm the same way- some things are so uncomfortable for me, but I also can't help touching things- like I have to know what things feel like and then I'll just keep touching it if it feels really cool. Oh, and then when she said her biggest fear was rabies? so random. and she knew so much stuff about it and was kind of obsessed with it for like a whole scene. Just so many things like that, and the first time around I didn't pick up on all of them, so rewatching those scenes with that lens was really fun and helped me notice more autistic traits in her. But I loved that she did have friends- they were just cool and loved her quirks (or with Nancy, she just put up with them even though Robin annoyed her so much). And she wasn't overly "weird". And she's smart without being nerdy. I guess I just really appreciate that the writers didn't go for the stereotypes and kind of naturally let those traits be revealed throughout the season.

Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
I typed that out from memory. I could not tell you when I memorized it, though it had to be in the last few years. I could not tell you when I made the TOS dialogue my go-to, when TNG's is more egalitarian and, besides, I saw that one first. I can tell you that "to boldly go where no man has gone before" is iambic. I can tell you that its recitation at the end of whichever AOS film nearly made me cry. Space. The final frontier. When you hear these words, we already know which story we're talking about. They draw us in.
It's like a liturgy.
It is not lost on me that the last thing Gene Roddenberry would have wanted is to start his areligious TV show with such a thing, but here we are. A liturgy is a prescribed ritual in a religion, which means "the way you do it" when you're trying to worship something (though, as often as not, it's the Christian concept of God).
I am rewatching Discovery and I watch Captain Pike very closely, for he is terribly religious for someone who is apparently not religious. I think especially of his behavior in New Eden, and his response to the All-Mother's blessing of peace. "And also with you," Pike says. He knows the ritual. He participates in it. He is called into the story. The scene cuts to an expression on Michael's face. I don't always know how to interpret it, but I think of it as unease--though it might be more accurate to call it jealousy, or irritation, or even confusion. Somehow, in this isolated community of strangers, Pike says the words that make him belong. (Michael, of course, is still figuring out how to belong.)
Religion in Star Trek is a tricky business. Kirk and Spock might have barely missed Jesus. Spock is Jewish. Sisko becomes a prophet to the Prophets, and converses among the gods. The Klingon gods are dead, they killed them. The Ferengi go to a big bank when they die. Chakotay worships as his ancestors did, even from the farthest end of the galaxy. It's all very something.
"Have either of you ever been in a church before?" Pike asks, and neither Michael nor Owo ever has.
Space. The final frontier.
Live long and prosper.
Q'apla!
Energize.
Hit it.
Imagine that every story in Star Trek is a little ritual. We listen for the words we know and recognize to get drawn into the story again and again. There are things we learn, things we memorize, and sometimes things we reject and question. I will be on this planet for the rest of my natural life, and yet I have a place among the stars.
I don't really know what it means. Somehow, I don't think I'm supposed to: it is, ever and always, a story for another day.

James T. Kirk - Reckless
Tumblr media
♫ - Son of a Lovin’ Man - Buchanan Brothers
For  @ihascat5 on Wattpad, I hope this is what you wanted! Thank you lot for reading! Hugs! ♡
The 'T' in James T. Kirk stood for 'Trouble.' Or perhaps 'Tearaway.' Or perhaps 'terribly and irrevocably irresponsible resulting in possibly dying each time he leaves the ship.' It seemed to be any of the three options on any given away mission.
Working in medical aboard the Enterprise, you had met your fair share of injury and disease, it came with the job and with the visitation of new worlds and cultures. Some planets were filled with poisonous animals and plants and you had to deal with the repercussions of it. Sometimes, races were hostile towards new visitors and attacked away teams. What was going to greet yourself and Bones on any day was always a mystery, and you had come to hate the sound of the door opening.
Each time there was talk of beaming down to a new planet, your eyes met Jim's and he just looked down. You hated him going, and he hated that you worried so much when he left, though a small part of his heart warmed at your concern. Each time he would say, 'I'll be fine', and each time you believe him. Not always did he come back unharmed, sometimes a scratch, sometimes a life threatening wound. He was your friend, he was your captain, and more recently you had come to realise a truth you had kept in denial for so long; he was the man you loved.
Sitting at Bones' desk, you were writing away, keeping watch over the med bay whilst he was away with the captain and Spock. Your head was pulled from your work by the dreaded sound, the last sound you wanted to hear in that moment, because it could only mean one thing. The away team was due to arrive back, for certain one of them was injured. Your heart stopped.
"Jim?" your voice came out scared and shocked, as you stared at the state the man was in. He was bleeding around his middle, and Spock and Bones were propping him up, almost dragging him to a bed. Jim could barely walk and he was barely conscious to accompany it. Tearing away from your thoughts, you began to help Bones with Jim, Spock having gone off to the bridge to take charge.
An hour or so of stress, you found yourself sat silently beside Jim's bed, Bones tending to the rest of the paperwork after declining your request to do so.
"I don't think you're in the right mind to carry on working, darlin'. Stay with him." Bones had said, a gentle and caring squeeze to your shoulder before leaving you be.
You found yourself sat very silently, Jim's hand held by yours delicately as though it may shatter at any moment. You'd seen him in some states before, but never had he come this close to death. It was Bones who was responsible for him still being here, and you had a lot to thank the good doctor for. You played with his fingers, entwining your own with his. Looking up, you brushed a stray strand of hair back into place from his forehead, a sad smile gracing your face as your attention focused once more down at your interlocked hands.
"Why do you always have to be so reckless?" You whispered, more so to yourself, a question you felt you just needed to vocalise. You sighed. "Why is it always you?"
"Part of my job" Jim's voice was hoarse and quiet, though he managed a somewhat airy chuckle afterwards, clearly finding humour in the fact he had nearly died not two hours ago.
"Jim.." you trailed off, brows raised in surprise; you hadn't expected him to wake so soon, Bones said he would be out for a fair few hours.
"Y/N, what happened?" He seemed genuinely confused, and you let his hand go, missing the feeling already.
"You," you started, voice dripping with contempt. "You, yet again, almost died on that mission. Why does it always have to be you? Why do you consistently put yourself in harms way?"
"What did I do? I just-"
"What you always do!" You cut him off, standing up and facing away from him. Hearing him struggle to sit up, you spun back round and pushed him back down. "No, stay there. You need rest."
"I need to know why you're so mad, that's what I need to know." Jim's voice was a little higher, a little louder, but still somewhat gentle; he never could find a reason to be mad at you.
"You need to rest first, Captain." Captain, you never called him that. He was always Jim, never was he addressed as Captain. He knew something was wrong.
"I need to know why it's such an issue for me to end up here, you don't fret over other people that land themselves in here, not to this extent. So quite clearly there's something wrong here."
"Yes, I don't love those people." What you said did not register in your brain at first, until you saw Jim's eyes widen and his mouth open slightly. Only then did you realise exactly what you had said. Backtracking, you decided, was useless. Instead, you tried to apologise.
"I, uh, well, I just.. umm.."
"Y/N," Jim cut you off, voice now soft. He held out his hand as far as he could. "Sit down."
Cautiously and rather embarrassed, you sat down again and tried to look anywhere but Jim's eyes. Ultimately, you had failed. As you looked up, your eyes met his and he smiled at you. Despite the anxiety and awkwardness you felt, you never could resist smiling back at him; Jim's smile was infectious. Jim chuckled.
"Are you alright?" His question wasn't unkind, though delivered through a series of small laughs. He could see you were anxious.
"Well, I, I don't.. I.. Look, I'm sor-"
Your words were cut short as Jim pulled you closer, and ignored all the pain in his torso to sit up and engulf you in a hug. With nowhere else to put your hands, you moved to the edge of the bed and wrapped your arms around his neck.
"No apology necessary."
Pulling back, you looked into Jim's eyes and saw them twinkle, their usual charm accompanied by a loving glint. You caught him looking down at your lips briefly, and stopped him with a finger to his own before he had the chance to kiss you.
"Do you promise you'll think more about your own safety and possibly consider coming back unharmed every once in a while? I don't know what I'd do if I lost you, Jim. You're always so reckless, so blasé about the idea of danger, I fear one day Mr Spock will return alone."
He smiled at you, appreciating just how much you cared, taking your hand in his while the other rested on your knee.
"I promise I'll always come back to you, Y/N. Always."
And then he kissed you.

I just watched ST: TNG, s4e15, First Contact and I have a question: is Commander Riker following Captain Kirk's legacy in terms of being coerced into sex?
Tumblr media
After all, if you start watching TNG with TOS still vivid in your memory, it's obvious that the creators tried to capitalise on the previous success, especially in terms of character building. You know, Data is TNG's Spock, and Riker, especially in the first season resembles Kirk in many ways. (Further into the series, the characters definitely found their own ground to stand on, though).
Tumblr media
The trope of an open-minded sensual man, who respects women, fared well for both Kirk and Riker. (Btw, I definitely don't regard any of them as predatory or a womanizer). But there's a dark side to it. It has been discussed in detail how cringe worthy it is that Kirk finds himself constantly in sexual situations, where his consent was absent or manipulated. But Will Riker has his fair share of this shit in TNG, too, and I haven't seen a lot of posts about it, so here are my 5 cents.
Tumblr media
Anyway, back to the 'First Contact' episode. The plot setting: Riker is doing a reconnaissance mission on planet Malcor III before making first contact with them. He gets injured and ends up in a local hospital. Riker's face has been surgically altered to look Malcorian, but the rest of his body exposes him as an alien. When Riker comes to, bruised all over, he tries to escape from the hospital back to the Enterprise, without revealing that he is not Malcorian. While he is looking for a means of escape, a Malcorian nurse, Lanel, enters. She asks him, if he is an alien, and hints that she can help Riker escape, so he goes for it.
Riker: Now, will you help me?
Lanel: If you make love to me.
Riker (incredulously): What?!
Lanel: I've always wanted to make love with an alien.
After that Lanel says that having sex with her is the "only way out of here" for Riker, and starts touching him, eyeing him hungrily. The apprehension on Riker's face clearly shows that his is absolutely not into it, and there's no way it's consensual.
Tumblr media
After that the scene cuts first to a cityscape of Malcor and then to the Malcorian exiting the room with Riker directly behind her in an attempt to escape. Then they have a cringe inducing conversation, where Lanel asks if she's going to see him again.
Tumblr media
Like what?!
There is no way to interpret this scene in any other way than that they had sex, and Riker now wants to get away from her and never return. This situation is never addressed again.
Given that further in the episode Riker almost dies (and is briefly accused of murder, but no biggy), the question is: is Riker okay?
And more importantly: what was the purpose of the implied sex scene? From the external, real world perspective - it's a weird attempt to raise the stakes, I guess. And to perpetuate a macho image, like a man can not take any offence in sexual advances of a woman? From the in-universe perspective - I won't be surprised if Riker has to deal with some PTSD.
It is a pity that the consequences of this trope have never been addressed on screen. As no matter how easy going, brave, or sex-positive you are, these type of weird sexual situations where the consent is very dubious, are bound to leave a mark. It is also a pity that this character arc has become a Star Trek trope. But, welp, this just didn't age well, I guess.
Tumblr media
Are there any other characters in Star Trek that are portrayed through this same problematic trope, as James T Kirk and William T Riker? Picard gets a little bit of it, but never to such a degree.
