“More like this,” Kuni mumbles, leaning forward to tuck a loose strand of hair behind your ear as he goes back to kneeling down on the ground and taking a photograph of you.

He’d picked you up from class and led you to a park, laying petals in your hair and arranging your limbs into different positions all afternoon. It was a little exhausting but the feeling of content you felt everytime he showed you the screen of his camera was worth it.

You couldn’t believe anyone saw you like that. He had a tender look fleet through his eyes that made your heart feel heavy. It was bittersweet.

“I think I’m good, I’ll send these to you,” Kuni muses, letting his camera dangle off his neck as he makes his way back towards you, plucking a petal out of your hair.

“You sure took a lot…did we need to for the assignment?” you ask, dodging as he tried to chuck a flower at your face.

“No, I just wanted extra photos of you,” he shrugs, picking up your school bag from the ground and draping it across his shoulder as he started to walk off.

“Hey! You owe me some photos then too,” you call out, catching up beside him.

“Didn’t know you were so dirty-minded,” he chuckles.

“Not those kinds of photos!”

“I never knew you were into plushies?”

“I’m really not, by you are so I thought I’d get you one. Or however many of these weird fucks you want.”

You hide your grin as you pick up a teddy bear off the shelf, hiding your face behind it.

“I knew you’d like it,” he says, following you to a booth. He picked one with three seats and takes the teddy bear from you, setting it down on the free seat.

“What’s not to like about a couples cafe filled to the brim with plushies?” you marvel, picking up the menu.

Neither of you have had the official couple talk, but it was assumed you both were a pair. You weren’t ready to make it official just yet, just like you weren’t ready to tell him your identity.

“Uhm, excuse me! Sorry to bother but are you Scaramouche?”

You both look up from your menus at a girl around your age, carrying a takeout bag with one hand and the other palm clutching her mouth in shock.

Scaramouche raises a brow and looks taken aback for a mere moment before composing himself, “That would be me, are you a fan?”

“The biggest! It’s so nice to meet you I can’t believe this is happening!” she gushes, a grin on her face as she waves around her phone, “Can I get a picture with you?”

“…sure,” he says, sending you an apologetic look as the girl turns to you, taking in your appearance for a quick second with a judgmental stare before handing you her phone, “Can you please take a photo of us?”

“Sure,” you slowly say, trying to mask your voice and taking the phone from her and snapping a few photos of the two of them. You and Kuni hadn’t even taken a photo together yet.

“Thank you uh…Scara’s friend,” she smiles, shooting a wink to Scara and skipping off.

“Sorry about that,” Kuni immediately apologizes after the girl leaves, “Shit like that has been happening since my face reveal.”

“It’s fine,” you assure, eyes scanning the menu, gnawing your lip unconsciously.

“Are you mad?”

“No,” you huff, before setting the menu down, “We don't have any photos together!”

Kuni stifles his snicker, “Is that it? If you wanted a fucking photo you didn’t have to ask.”

“It’s embarrassing.”

“Just get over here we’ll use my camera.”

“Can the bear be in it?”

“For fucks sake fine.”

Like, I literally have Dark Star Kha’zix as my main theme, just because it’s the most aesthetic skin in the entire game. ANYWAYS, guys, hit me up with any ideas for Jhin content, because I’m gonna take care of it, I PROMISE. And don’t worry about your asks, I’m really writting them, I’m just a bit lazy and slow. The Cosmic Court has lost Jhin’s light. He has fallen into the Dark Star’s trap, embraced the inky space. Now, bestowed with new starfire powers, he conscientiously begun to claim the Universe as a canvas for his artwork.

Jhin’s corruption quickly escalated, cosmic frame mirrored the cells of his mad and abstract concept of reality. It all belonged to him now. He could create anything or make nothing from the absolute; proclaim the universe with a new virtuoso as a cradle of twisted nebulas, incandescent galaxies, blurred across the black reality.

His hunger grew alongside claiming more and more stars, his four emphemeral hands - two filled with the energy of relinquished Cosmic celestial, the other two greeting the omnipotent might of the Dark Star - working, reaching, grabbing, painting, spreading.

These hands, he reached them once for a brand new Galaxy, fresh and pure, uncertain of the destination it should met. It could be turned into something truly gorgeous, breathtaking, beyond anything a simple mortal could ever comprehend. He wanted to ensnare this light, capture it at its most enduring state, and then squize it in his claws, paint the infinite darkness of expanse by its entrails.

But Jhin hesitated. It wasn’t just another impotent Galaxy drifting in space, awaiting its dull end, that would come in eons. It was another Celestial being, alive and in their youth, unaware of the ongoing war between the Dark Star and its corruptants and the Cosmic Court.

He approached, though there was a concerning aspect in their apperance. Like a whirling black hole that he employed to create artworks greater than himself, the artist behind.

Discovered when he found himself closer, he realized that he misses the feeling of gliding freely between plantes, with stardust sweeping through his ephemeral cape. Emptiness surrounded this poor Celestial, ubiquitous darkness and black background only in the sight. It was almost pitful, to look at something so lonely, with no items to craft and work and paint. But Jhin was an artist, which entailed that he felt and saw more, curiosity rised achingly in his cosmic body.

And he obtained them, because Jhin, empowered by the power of the Dark Star, always got what he desired, what his longing soul cried for. Firstly, it was a move made from pity; soon he became covetous, as he saw other corruptants becoming jealous of his new pet. The old, disdainful wraith, Mordekaiser, jeered, demanding his own cohort of enslaved Celestials. ”If Jhin can have one, why won’t we create a whole army of it? Why should we meet constelations with cataclysms, instead of claiming them as our own?” he asked, encouraged by the coward, Xerath. But Jhin decided to mercifully ignore his acquaintances, as the Herald, Thresh, didn’t stop him - his own twisted mind hided his soft spot for some kind of pets.

Jhin admired his new companion’s loyality. They decided to stood by his side, and he was positive they would be loyal even in the end of the Cosmic Court, end of the Dark Star and the whole Universe, just because he had freed them from the nothingless of their corner of space.

He uncovered that he had no desire of consuming nor devastating the Celestial into a new piece of art, just becausae of their purity and mellowness. When born in a dark emptiness, their being couldn’t soak with the benightedness that kept buisy the minds of others. He could bathe them in his own ideas and beliefs.

Neither Mordekaiser nor Xerath could order him to leave his new partner - they became his inspiration, his only appreciated audience. Their word was valued by Jhin more than the ardous asks from the other corruped cosmic titans.

They weren’t ordinal. They were found in a repugnant darkness, embraced by no stars, no nebulas, only ceaseless nothingless. It was almost calming, like the dim insides of the Dark Star, which were consummate, persistent, always hungry for more. Jhin admired it and wanted to show his pet the whole Universe, the beauty he could rip from constellations, melt them to his will.

He often became pensive, milling the thoughts that consumed his mind, pushing him into the greatness of his immense conciousness. They could listen to him for eons about the convoluted twists and strings behind his art. But he would never talk about his past and the Cosmic Court. And they were never malicious enough to force him to confess that.

The whole Galaxy was yours. Jhin was the reason the sanctimonious herold of the Dark Star, Thresh, has brought the rightful owner, the true heir of the devouring force of this Universe, Lux, so she could claim the throne. And by this way, the Virtuoso obtained favourability of his master - the one that gave him the powers. It let him spread the superficial chaos, proudly pace through space with his new companion, his beautiful galaxy, his devotion and destination.

Because Jhin was never reserved; if he wanted the whole Universe to belong to him, he would accomplish this task even without help of the Dark Star.

The Forgotten Victims of Booktok

(AKA, How Booktok can actually discourage women from reading, and how we can encourage them)

The big thing on booktok is smut. People will even say ‘what’s the point if it doesn’t have smut?’ or ‘where’s the spice??’. This makes me really sad, as a writer and a reader. I know many books about love and relationships that have little to no shagging and are fantastic and moving, and I’m not even a romance reader! But of course, they don’t fit tiktok’s fast paced mindless scroll. Now some people on booktok only read for the aesthetic of reading, or only care about the sex and that’s it, and those aren’t the people I’m talking about. Many people don’t realise that there are forgotten victims of Booktok. Young women and girls who were taught that books have this imaginary intelligence quota, that books are boring, and find solace in these repackaged fanfics with different character names.

But here’s the thing…you can’t blame them.

We have to remember that these women are basically reading books for fun for the first time (or at least since they were young). And when you look up ‘books’ on the internet, what do you get? Booktok favourites, smutty romances, cheap-feeling crime fiction. These young girls who could fall in love with Sylvia Plath or Isaac Asimov, or Harlan Ellison or Ursula K. le Guin, or even people like Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams, don’t have the chance because - how the hell are they going to know they exist?? We know they exist, because we love reading! We love the community of reading, talking about reading, sharing our favourite stories. But Booktok doesn’t talk about books the way we do. We talk about character arcs and relationships, parts we found good or bad. Booktok talks about the covers and the tropes, the way that fan fiction does. And when you make something into a trope, it loses all the parts that made it special. And I’m not sure what kind of tropes The Colour of Magic fits into.

Also, a lot of these girls never had experience with fandom before now, ergo why they don’t immediately see the ‘fanficy’ nature of these books, and why the communities surrounding them can become so toxic. They’ve never HAD a fan community before. So all the unspoken rules of fandom aren’t in place, leading to a toxic environment. They’ve built up this ‘booktok’ space to the point where they don’t realise other communities exist. So what do you do when women and girls feel like they’re excluded from a hobby or a larger community?

You make them feel welcome! And you show them that something that should be fun, shouldn’t feel intimidating, and that there’s more to books than what greedy publishers want to spoonfeed them. And how do we do that? Well I’ve made a tiny list of things below of books that can maybe get a booktok reader onto stuff that they’d enjoy, but don’t know how to put into words. Please add onto this yourself if you want! We want to break down the gates and make reading and literacy open for everyone! And remember, these recommendations aren’t just for booktok people, they’re for everyone who never really felt ‘allowed’ to read.

-First of all, if you’re a romantasy reader, I can’t stress enough how much you’d like Stardust by Neil Gaiman. It’s still got a bit of romance, and a tiny bit of sex, even if it’s more fantasy than romance, but I feel like the writing is accessible and incredibly engaging, especially for people who aren’t used to reading for fun. Another series to recommend is the Dragonlance series, this has more of the high fantasy thing going on, but I think the characters relationships and personalities would scratch a bit of that itch for people. And obviously Lord of the Rings, for very similar reasons. All these books are very accessible for people not used to reading for fun.

- You all know who I’m gonna say for paranormal romance. Anne Rice, the one and only!! Her character drama and relationships, her settings are so vivid you could chew on them, the battle of morality. I love her stuff to death, and if anyone’s going to get you into classic gothic literature, it’s her. Also, Dracula! It may be old and grey now, but Dracula is still very readable, with very modern feeling characters, and the settings and the action, agh they are amazing!

So yeah, love the players, hate the game, hate those who exploit the game, and hate those who convince the players that they can’t do any better.

i like to talk about books (especially neil gaiman's books because they are delightfully interesting); philisophical wonderings like the possibility of extraterriestrial life, the beginning of the universe, and the nature of humanity; memories, particularly funny ones; and my hyperfixations of course.

my hobbies include drawing (which you know), singing, crotcheting, writing poetry, listening to music and hiking.

some of my favourite things are my stuffed animal mr lion, my worn copy of good omens, all of my belongings that have stickers on em (which is a lot), my ghost files hoodie, my purse with an orca on it, and the constellation/unicorn patterned blanket that i made as a kid.

i don't really have a favourite aesthetic cause i don't know a lot about them! also, i like way too many vibes and colours and things to sum it up in one, i think.

some other facts about me:

im going into creative writing at university next year.

when i was like 10 i wanted to be a marine biologist.

i have three siblings.

some of my favourite movies are stardust, spider-man: far from home, monty python and the holy grail, paranormal activity, alien, and what we do in the shadows.

i was like 9 when hesitant alien was released so obviously i wasn’t in the fandom at that point, but now as a current fan looking back at that era where gerard was presenting more “masculinely” wearing suits and having short hair (insert tucking hair behind ears tweet) while also discussing trans rights and gender constantly and now tuck their hair behind their ears and wear dresses and clothes from the “womens” section (which i know now the gendered sections are stupid but gerard grew up in the 80s) maybe i’m being invasive but also i kinda wanna blow myself up

how gerard has chosen to dress and present throughout the years is really interesting and it does feel like what we are currently witnessing is the result of years of constructive progress, rather than any kind of regression period!

here are my long-winded and unorganized thoughts that i'll emphasize now (for brevity's sake) are all just my personal takeaways:

I feel like it's almost weird for me to see people refer to the HA era as "masculinely" because, I don't know about everyone else, but I almost viewed that era as gerard at his most feminine at the time. Yes, they wore the traditional "man" outfit of a suit and tie, but it always provoked more "ziggy stardust" and less "lounge singer" to me personally. Maybe it was the pre-existing decades of people calling Bowie effeminate and androgynous, but the whole alien aesthetic and short vibrant orange hair always kinda felt like an ultimate non-binary look. Not saying gerard falls under the label of non-binary, just meant the stage persona at the time felt like it transcended gender labels. I should also point out that although i was a fan and keeping somewhat up-to-date with news, I wasn't really aware of what he was saying on stage. When I was, well... I feel like I took it for granted at the time. I was younger (15) and never really followed celebrities in this way before, so when he was showing support for trans kids I basically had no idea it was so, dare I say, revolutionary (and still is today). This was also around the time they did the now famous Reddit AMA talking about gender-based therapy, so it really has always felt like an element of who gerard is.

If anything, maybe the period from 2016-2019ish made people forget this? He was showing up to comic related things with a beard and khakis and to a lot of people it was a big change. Nowadays it feels like people have a way more nuanced and respectable opinion of this 'hobbit/wizard' era, but for a lot of young, less educated people it was jarring.

For the whole 'women's section' thing: I get it! it's nice to see him wear whatever they want, but also they have always shopped in the 'women's section'. I get why people feel like a blouse means more than 'women's' skinny jeans, but also, it's just a shirt. The dresses and skirts, well. Truly, I never in a million years thought we would be here. Not from a 'gerard has come so far 🥺' standpoint (b/c again, I don't know him) but more I can't believe this is the current state of My Chemical Romance and they all are allowing me to see it.

Not at all arguing with you or disagreeing! Just wanted to share my standpoint as someone who was technically there for all this :)

What are your favourite movies? :)

On the top I think I'd put Chocolat. I haven't watched it in a few years, but I love so much about this film (soundtrack, set designs, aesthetic, CHOCOLATE) that my first and instinctual answer when asked about my favourite film is that.

Finding Nemo. This was the first (and one of the very few) film that I watched twice in the cinema because I loved it so much, and the first film that I bought on DVD with my own birthday money. I think it was the first film in general that made me go like "I like this not only because it's animated and more fun than the boring non-animated films the grown-ups watch all the time" and I was about 9 at the time. The story was touching, the soundtrack was beautiful, the colours and animation were fantastic... and I still consider it one of the best and most well-made films I've ever watched.

Going on on animated films, I also consider The Incredibles as one of the best films I've watched. This film is barely for children, when you consider how much actual violence, death, and mature content it includes. Every time I watch it, I have something new to love about it.

Treasure Planet is and always will be the best underrated film I've ever watched. I've seen youtubers complain about how it's not underrated anymore because everyone talks about it and excuse me sir do we see the Mouse promote it now? It's not even available in the Greek version of d+. Shut up.

I could go on and on about great animated movies I've watched but let's turn it to live action ones for any snobs out there

I've watched it only once, but I think 1917 rewired my brain in so many ways. It was one of the last films I watched in the cinema before they closed for covid, and it was such an experience watching it on the big screen with my cinema-loving sister (who had already watched it once before) that I feel it will be a legitimately lesser experience if I watch it alone on my puny laptop's screen. Anyway, I remember trying to watch another war film the day before and feeling sick to the stomach with the Murican propaganda and the war pr0n that when I walked out of watching 1917 I was like "That's how you make a war film." It is shocking and gutting without any fanfare and excessive use of shock factor; only realistic brutality of war.

Stardust. Oh boy. I would pay so much money for a game set in its world. Such beautiful world building, characters, story, I love it so much.

Honourable mentions to Moulin Rouge!, Mean Girls, Detective Pikachu, and Venom. There are a few other films that are more of a guilty pleasure but it's for another post XD

okay this is a hard one I don't think I've really recommended fics on here before but I shall do it!! for u anon

(in no particular order and hunted from my ao3 bookmarks)

that's one romantic poltergeist was ASTONISHING. the plot wasn't sidelined for the romance and was genuinely so intriguing the romance was incredible and believable and heartwrenching. the entire concept of poltergeist Eddie- teasing Steve bc no one else can see him, required cuddling, the intimacy and loneliness of it. the whole coin thing running throughout and the sacrifice theme. just.. amazing. read it.

the shire is NOT on fire there are no words for how much I adore this fic. none. it changed me. the aesthetic of it all and the pure joy. the chemistry between Steve and Eddie with all the almosts and ROBIN being iconic along with everyone just getting to be absolute nerds. i just. cannot praise this enough it's blushworthy

some nice young satanist the dialogue in this is genuinely incredible. astonishing. a particular scene in the club where Eddie and Steve both end up getting punched actually made me laugh out loud (rare for me) and I adored it. perfect. a pretty realistic romance that I was rooting for even though they were both assholes (which is in character for them honestly)

now there's a question. well, first off, how old would they be?? in their forties right??

if it was just them they'd absolutely go to a packed dive bar and get way too drunk with strangers that act like old friends. they wouldn't kiss at midnight out of habit of hiding, but when the ball comes down they cheer with the rest of the bar and down their beers like they're 21 again. they have to basically carry each other home between bursts of laughter and stopping to hurl on the sidewalk. Eddie never thought he'd make it to the turn and Steve boasts about how he dragged the guy to it kicking and screaming

if the others are close enough to join (which I hope they would be) it'd be a family affair. they all made it so far and the biggest milestone for them all is this, the new millennium, and Steve and Eddie spend their time stealing glances at each other as they socialise at Joyce and hopper's house in the countryside until the countdown comes. then, they gravitate towards each other, and in the safety of their family and friends they celebrate having made it on the back porch with a couple smokes.

Press Garden Zone Act 1: Working in the Tabloid Jargon! The Music Is Phenomenally Amaizing! The Level aesthetics and Gimmicks are Awesome & The Level Design Is Really Good + There's a lot of references to Launch Base Zone. This is Definitely a great Zone and My 2nd Favorite. It's also Great to listen to this while Ur working or cleaning! (I don't see a lot of people caring about the 1st act of PGZ, just listen to the Music and you'll see!) Press Garden Zone Act 2: Its A Blossom Haze! NGL, i think PGZ ACT 2 is Awesome. Blossom Haze Is Really Chill and Stuff with Ice Blowers From ICZ, Ice Spikes & New Mechanics. Though all that's Awesome, I don't want People to Forget Tabloid Jargon the Greatest Work Ethic Sonic Zone and also the only Sonic Work Ethic Zone, Cause many of People Forget Press Garden Zone (Mainly Act 1), But This Zone Should Be a National Zone Treasure. Act 2 Is Still Awesome but i Prefer Act 1.

Stardust Speedway Zone Act 1: Groovy Dude! The Sonic Mania Remix Was So Solid Man! They Bring Back Every Groovy Part of the original SSZ From CD with great Level Design, Groovy Elements, And Many References to Marble Garden Zone! Stardust Speedway Zone Act 2: Now here's The Superior Act Between The two, the first Act and The Second act are tied For Best act Music but there are lots of things to like in this act, especially the Metal Sonic Boss!

HydroCity Zone Act 1: I love HydroCity Zone, Especially Act 2 but Act 1 Really Wins the award for Most Gimmicks and Gameplay. Its Great to See a Zone Like This Return, Especially Since Sonic Mania Needed a good Water Zone and I'm Absolutely Astounded that it returned & That the Music Is Remixed to the point where i could sit and listen to it for hours. HydroCity Zone Act 2: NGL, I'm Just as Happy Seeing HydroCity Return in Sonic Mania as Etika & Cobanermani 456 are. HydroCity Was a Great Nostalgic Return, I Loved Everything about This Act in S3&K and I Love Everything About It Here! I'm Glad They Didn't Change the Gimmicks and just Stayed True to the original, And That Remix Is Fire!

Mirage Saloon Zone Act 1: Skyway Octane Is a Great Music Piece & The Zone Has Some Great Aesthetics, But I'm Not a Fan of the Plane Part or the Boss. I Do like That Team Hooligans returned as part of the act 2 Boss & I do Like the Knuckles Version of Act 1 Called Wildstyle Pistolero. Mirage Saloon Zone Act 2: So, as I Stopped by The Rogues Gallery, I Noticed, This Music Is Bomb! It's Really Great. Here's the Weirdest part, I used to hate MSZ Before I played Sonic Mania. Now that i Know that this Zone is Great, I can say that I love the Handguns, Pinatas, Lightbulbs, Bumpalos, The Water Sprayers, and The Boss!

Oil Ocean Zone Act 1: Well i didn't expect this one to return, they had to have a Balancer Zone (AKA control Variable) in there and here it is. I never Liked his zone until it got a Great Mania Remix & Better Level Design Oil Ocean Zone Act 2: Thí- Hey Wait a Minute... It's JUST SANDOPOLIS ZONE IN DISGUISE! WHY SONIC MANIA, WHY DID U THINK THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA! OF ALL IDEAS YOU COULD HAVE BRUNG BACK, U BRING THIS BACK! (Calming Down) At least the music is great, but it gives off a Desert music Feeling which isn't the best feeling.

Lava Reef Zone Act 1: NGL, I love the Comeback, i Love the Mania Remix, I love the New Mechanics and Aesthetics like the bridges & Buttons, but I kind of prefer the Original Because 16-bit music for this zone is awesome & Nostalgia. This Music track is awesome whether or not the Original Inches forward or not. Lava Reef Zone Act 2: The Mystic Cave Feeling and The Cooled Crystal Feeling Have Been Amplified Due to the Music & Atmosphere. The Mechanic from Quartz Quadrant Was a Nice Touch & The Music Is Really Good with a Soft guitar Playing, Awesome!

Metallic Madness Zone Act 1: Bro, if you hate this act, u don't Know life. This Zones Music Is Fire, there's lots of Mechanics True to The Original and new Mechanics, the Music Is Phenomenal, The Level Aesthetics are Greatly Respected & The level Design is Great. I even thought out my own Lyrics (First verse: Check the Mic, Yō, We'll Break Down the Madness. Roll Out the Door, Straight Up, Storm the Castle. Imma Blast off, I Have No Fatigue. Out Of My League, Naughty Egg, You Can See the Crew. Second Verse: Now, Check Out my moves, check out My Speed, How's It really Feeling? Going Fast with The Doctor at My Feet. I Live in The Fast Track. You're Getting In my Way. I Carry the Day "Hey!" Cause I (Na, Na, Na, Na) RUN!). At least I think they're the right ones. Metallic Madness Zone Act 2: Oh Man! That Saxophone, The Level Aesthetics, Chibi Sonic, And the Music in General Is All So Awesome! Though Spikes up the wazoo are not fun, but the zone's music tells me to forget about it.

Titanic Monarch Zone Act 1: I'm in no Monarch... well unless u count this zone (Rim Shot). We All Know this Zone Was Built to Rule (Name of the Song), But It Has its Ups and Downs Like the Death Egg Act 1 Boss Came Back, The Mechanics & Gimmicks are awesome, The Spikes & Enemies Get even more tedious, and The Level aesthetic was heading for a Robot Building in Progress like Launch Base. so out of everything, this zone is just bad. Titanic Monarch Zone Act 2: If you hated final bosses in sonic Games, then you'll hate this One! I sure do! I don't like how if you're not careful, you'll get sent to the beginning of the area. Really tedious Stuff. The Steel Cortex music is good, but not the best music.

Egg Reverie Zone: The true final boss is pretty hard, but it doesn't have the best music compared to the big arms fight.

Over the Nexus Deck Profile: Laval

It's easy to compare Laval to Flamvell: Both are FIRE archetypes released in the Hidden Arsenal series with little aesthetic themes beyond "fire", or in this case lava. Lavals, however, are a more refined archetype than Flamvell, possessing a more coherent, nuanced strategy: Fill the graveyard with Laval monsters using Miller and Volcano Handmaiden (Tender of the Laval Volcano), use those monsters to fuel various things, and if you banish them for the cost of those things, recover them to keep the cycle moving. But don't be fooled; Lavals can still utilize Rekindling like Flamvells can. Various Laval monsters, such as Lancelord and Forest Sprite, have the 200 defense required to be summoned via Rekindling, and the Miller + Handmaiden pair fills your graveyard with plenty of monsters to play Flamvell Counter. Because of this synergy, I saw fit to run a small Flamvell package, not only to enable Synchro plays, but also Firedog can summon Lancelord, a 2100 beater, from the deck. Laval Cannon (Cannoneer) is our primary way of reusing our banished Lavals, and pairs very nicely with Spirit of Flames; Spirit of Flames can banish a Handmaiden from the GY to summon itself, then we Normal Summon Cannon to Summon the banished Handmaiden, and make a quick Trishula. The area Lavals really shine is in OTKs, primarily thanks to Laval Forest Sprite and its ability to strengthen all Lavals you control based on the number of Lavals in the graveyard, whenever Forest Sprite is used for a Synchro Summon. In testing this deck to make sure it's profile-ready, I performed an OTK using a Red Nova Dragon with 5500 attack, and a Volcano Handmaiden with 3900 attack. Laval has become one of my favorite archetypes, and has thus lead to one of my favorite Decks I've made for this blog. Oooh, this would probably be an introspection/exploration of Bernie leading up to Primum Non Nocere. I'm fascinated by what we learn of how Bernie's been coping, which is basically plausible deniability up until they are face to face again. She says she knows she's lost Serena as soon as she gets on the plane, yet still keeps calm and carries on about Nairobi. She doesn't push Serena at all, and keeps waiting for Serena to explain things. It also sounds like she was getting pressure from the NTC to get Serena to sign the contract... and then there's Serena sending bullet-pointed emails. So yeah, I'd do a deep-dive on all of that.

Joy is Not Made to be a Crumb.

Serena Campbell is the manager and barista at Pulses. She can usually stay impartial from hospital gossip and the machinations of doctors and nurses. There's something about her new regular though...

I Saw the Blue Sea and Sails.

Bernie and Serena try a day trip to the coast of Spain. They're not together yet, but very close. Bernie's doing better than she ever has been. Serena's stopped worrying about her enough to be happy and seeing the sea has been Bernie's idea. Lots of aesthetic things (convertible car, sandy beach, small fishing village and the ache to hold the other's hand) and staring at each other in the sun. Includes a lot of deep conversations about where they went wrong. The aim of this fic would be to see how close I can get them to kissing without them actually taking the leap, and cause all my readers to hate me because of it. ;)

I Always Come Back.

5 + 1 fic. Five Times Bernie came back to Serena and then the one time they left together. All set post-Mogadishu. So, the first one would be coming back from the dead. Then coming back to her after a major panic attack. Coming back after one of Bernie' many solo walks. Coming back after storming out after a fight. Coming back after Cameron. And then the + 1 would be them leaving Spain to go and see Jason, without either contemplating anything different.

Everyone You Love is Made of Stardust.

Amnesia AU. Completely medically-inaccurate. Bernie returns to Holby City after being blown up in Mogadishu, to reunite with her son and the life she's slowly piecing together. She slowly remembers everything, except Cam's boss, who says they knew each other... once upon a time. As they get closer, Bernie starts falling head over heels for a woman who can't seem to let her guard down.

Music Sounds Better With You (1998)

This song is the only release by French house trio Stardust, composed of Benjamin Diamond, Alan Braxe, and Thomas Bangalter, who you probably recognize as one half of Daft Punk along with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Out of all Daft Punk-adjacent projects, this is the one which most readily can be called Rollerwave, which is why I assume Stardust are listed on Rollerwave’s entry on the Aesthetics Wiki. 

This is an infectious piece of dance from the peak of French House’s popularity, when its novelty on American shores had not yet worn off. Despite being over 20 years old at this point, the song and accompanying music video are callbacks to an even earlier period of time, a halcyon childhood summer’s day spent engaged in ultimately futile pursuits. 

The music video is startlingly convincing, authentic to the point of being unsettling. It follows a young boy as he builds a handmade glider, which he proceeds to unleash over warm grassy hills, where it winds up in the hands of the trio, who stand playing perched atop a lavishly refreshing cloud, before tossing it back down and returning it to its rightful owner. 

Along the way, we catch glimpses of the trio’s subtle humor by means of completely fictional songs by entirely fictional bands on the TV screen in the boy’s living room- titles like “Luv On The Beach” by Samanthra, “Hotlipz” by Dave Stavroz and “Step On It” by Monstarr Bunch are all displayed, to give us the impression that we are witnessing a brief glimpse into a parallel universe with similar yet distinct musical acts, that Stardust itself is only one of these among many, and that the one song we are hearing- the only one Stardust ever released- is a freak accident sent across the dimensional threshold. 

The music video is charming and can only be viewed properly on a warm summer’s day, perhaps paired with a cool drink as part of a summer playlist. It’s directed by acclaimed French auteur Michael Gondry, and you can feel the Gondry schmaltz dripping from every element, from the bickering parents, who are lightly interspersed with the track, to the seamless blend of French and American culture, to the extent that the music video could easily take place in France or America. That timelessness and placelessness only add to the track’s enduring longevity among French House fans. 

The song itself, while repetitive, never gets old, always feeling fresh and novel, as unflinching as the good times it symbolizes. Recently, it’s seen a resurgence here on the Internet, with multiple remixes and loops made, as well as extended versions which keep the party going. 

“Music Sounds Better With You” is a charming piece of electronic music history, and an important facet of Rollerwave history, too, in that it represents the first instance of French House’s unexpected connection to the genre through retro visuals and a cleverly distorted riff. When I first started this blog, I wanted to create a kind of definitive Rollerwave canon, and the more I do this, going over each entry systematically, the easier it seems to be.

Statistically, she is one in 8 billion people and counting. The poets say we are made of stardust and sand so it would be right to say she has slipped through the sieve of society, to continue her being.

Her being of making aesthetic notes, watching the sun rise and set, picturing the softest clouds ever, and calling pastel colours fluffy– giving no justification at all. Being clumsy, stopping to watch flowers on a sunny weekday, giving out compliments like it's raining gold, and reading.

Walking barefoot on grass, working a 12-hour day, finding a tenner in the pockets of laundered clothes, listening to music that doesn't leave, and beaming at bubbles floating. Feeling uncomfortable without a watch on her wrist, or a thought on her mind, hating letter math, blushing at genuine compliments, successfully baking a decadent batch of brownies, politely saying 'question' before she asks the question, and swooning over any digestible idea of romance– like when the right person says hi.

Hugging without reason, and loving without conditions– is her being. It is her being here, being her. It is her being art, her being more than just a statistic that exists on a graph.
