I've watched pretty much all of Jenny Nicholson's videos (despite not being into most of the things she's into) for a variety of reasons, but one of the reasons I watch her content is because I think that she seems like a truly stand-up kind of person. Of course, given that she is a person creating content for YouTube, we're only allowed to see the version of herself that she wants us to see. I'm under no illusions about that. But the version of herself that she presents to us, the viewers, seems to be a person who is not only genuinely passionate about the things she discusses (and honest about why she'll hold back on discussing certain topics when fans of those topics can be awful about it), but also who considers the experiences of (for lack of a better phrase) the average person when it comes to the theme parks and other experiences that she reviews.

Three specific instances come to mind: one from the Evermore video, and then two from her most recent Star Wars hotel video. (Side note: she was so, so right that Disney marketing is stupid as hell for not letting influencers et cetera use the common names for things. The average person doesn't know what "Galactic Starcruiser" is, but will understand "Star Wars hotel." Get it together, Disney.)

In the Evermore video, Jenny talks about how she emailed Evermore Park ahead of her visit to try to get more information prior to her visit. Things like whether there was a dress code, what she could expect when she arrived there, information that should have been readily available on the website but wasn't. She mentions that she could have mentioned that she's an influencer and that she probably would have gotten a response (because they never emailed her back), but that she deliberately chose not to.

"So I did attempt to email ahead of my visit, trying to ask basic questions about the park and inquire about renting it out. When I did that, I was intentionally vague; I didn't link my channel, and I didn't use my primary email. And I sort of suspect that if I had done the whole influencer song and dance -- said my channel name, my subscriber count -- I might've had better access to the park, and perhaps even a better experience. But that wasn't the point. I didn't want to call ahead. I'm the mystery diner! I'm the undercover boss! If you can't deliver an equivalently good experience for all guests, that's on you and your business." [x]

Then, in the Star Wars hotel video, there were two instances in which Jenny had to reach out to Disney customer support for assistance, and received absolutely nothing in return. The first was when she paid for a photo taking service, but had absolutely no photos taken of her. When she reached out to Disney customer support for a refund, they refused to give her said deserved refund. The second instance was when she had purchased a large droid figure from the hotel, and had it shipped to her house via the Disney shipping service. The Disney shipping service inputted her address incorrectly (in fact I think she says they put in a completely different address altogether), so her droid was lost. Once again she reached out to Disney customer support to find out what she could do about this expensive item she had purchased, only to be told that they couldn't do anything to help her.

In both cases, Jenny took to twitter to post about how Disney was refusing to a.) issue her a refund for a service she paid for but never received, and b.) help her receive an item she'd paid for but never received. Both times, Disney reached out immediately, issued her the refund, and overnighted her lost item. Jenny correctly identifies that they only did this because she's an influencer with a large twitter following, and has this to say in the video:

"They didn't even ask for my phone number. Like someone at Disney just did the legwork to go into the database, look up my booking info, find my phone number and then call me within a day of the tweet going out. And the person who called me was really nice, and I'm thankful he cared to resolve it. BUT, I just always feel very cynical when I try to resolve issues through the appropriate channels available to all customers and nobody will help me until they find out I'm an 'influencer.' I spoke with several other guests who got [the photo taking service] and had the exact same problems as me, and they never got refunds." [x]

And

"But then after I tweeted about it on my twitter account with a lot of followers, Disney suddenly resolved it and they sent me a replacement. They actually overnighted it to me. And along with it they sent a lot of miscellaneous goodies which I really appreciated. So here again, I feel if this had happened to anyone without a lot of twitter followers, they would have had a significantly more frustrating experience." [x]

I feel that this post will probably read as giving Jenny kudos for doing the bare minimum. And I think that on some level, that's true. But it's true because nowadays, many influencers won't even do the bare minimum. They would have Disney immediately issue them a refund, or overnight the droid to them with the additional goodies, and then make posts gushing about how great Disney's customer service is, despite knowing full well that the (again for lack of a better term) average person who doesn't have a huge internet following would never receive that kind of support from Disney. Similarly with Evermore, most influencers would call ahead and flex their follower count to try to get a bespoke experience to then show on their channels. They wouldn't want the same experience everyone else gets. That won't generate good content, in their eyes, and besides, they're better than that. Don't you know who they are?

But Jenny, despite her follower counts, keeps it real. Yes, she appreciates that Disney did give her the deserved refund and did send her the droid + gifts. But she also points out, both times, that if she'd been a person without a large twitter following, they would not have done that, and people in the exact same position she was with the photo service didn't get their deserved refunds. With Evermore, she didn't call ahead because she DOES want the same experience everyone else gets. She wants to be able to give a genuine review. Whether that review is positive or negative is dependent on the business itself.

Again, this probably seems like giving Jenny kudos for the bare minimum of decency. And I agree that on some level it is. But I also think that, in today's day and age, we really don't get that with a lot of influencers, who are in it for the sponsorship money (and who get their egos way inflated), and so it's nice to have a reviewer / theme park influencer who is honest with her opinions, and who recognizes that yeah, Disney did give her special treatment, but that it shouldn't have been special treatment, that they should be helping all of their guests like this, through the normal channels that she tried using, and they are a shit company for not doing that.

I just really appreciate Jenny.

A Bones who's just. So anxious. So stressed. So overwhelmed that it starts taking a toll on his health. Maybe he doesn't even realise - or maybe he does and tries his best to push through it until it knocks him on his ass. Kind of in the vein of "You don't actually know how tired you are until you stop. And then you just physically cannot start again." It becomes his new baseline, a problem that just brews and storms in the distance.

And he just carries on. And keeps going and going and going until one day he realises that 'Oh fuck, I'm not okay' and has about 5 seconds of warning before he straight up collapses, doesn't matter if it's on the bridge, in the madbay, on a planet - he's going down. (Maybe a repeat of Tholian Web where he just straight up faints into Spock's arms? Full whammy, why not)

Maybe it's a high-tension situation getting resolved that does it. The pure relief of it reminds him of how tired he is. How tired he's been for a while. His body sees that momentary rest and goes "More of that, please. And I'm not asking."

And he's so rendered by it that he doesn't grumble about being coddled like he normally would when he wakes up. He knows not to fuck with the medbay staff - they're just as firm as he is on recovery, and that's not by accident - and he knows that Spock and Kirk will be hovering, because they see any problem as something they, too, should shoulder the burden of.

...And because they're some of the most protective people in the damned universe. And that goes for pretty much all the people on board the Enterprise.

In some scenarios, it's just a case of letting his body and mind rest properly. In others, there's a lot more recovery involved than anyone initially expects. Luckily for him, he has a found family who are determined to be there with him at every step. It just takes a couple reminders, every once in a while.

Maybe she has nightmares on the incident. But he realises Bones has just NEVER fucking mentioned it despite him #being the master complainer. That sets off the first alarm bells. And then maybe Uhura asks Jim how Bones is doing bc she knows that Bones #would just say he's fine. But Jim is like ??? Bc why wouldn't Bones be okay. And then she realises that HE HASN'T realised that Bones is th #kind of motherfucker to suffer in silence. and she's like Jim. Jim he literally ran himself to the ground trying to revive you. Jim. Are yo #kidding me have you NOT TALKED ABOUT THAT??? ANY OF IT??? Thus... Jim realises or maybe even Remembers what Bones is like #bc maybe at some point he DID know Bones well enough to know when he's fucking himself over. But all the Bullshit that theyve gone through #and the fact they work in entirely different parts of the ship kind of. Alienated them a bit. And suddenly hes like. Oh. It's really giving Bahryn to me. Gentle embraces in the midst of pain especially; there are so many moments in the Honorable Ones (besides the obvious life-sparing one) when Zeb is clearly putting the fact that Kallus is injured ahead of the fact that he's an enemy, and he's not so rough with him as you might expect. And of course it was a night of anguish for both of them, as they recounted the most scarring moments of their lives side-by-side with their enemy, in the freezing cold, but there was the contrast of hope, of understanding, just like the contrasts in the poem.

This is giving post-Zero Hour. A whole lot. Courage blossoms in the midst of fear—I mean come on, Kallus just turned his back on his entire life up to this point to join a rebellion that may or may not succeed, but he still did it. And now he and Zeb are no longer mortal rivals, but friends and compatriots, and whatever healing either of them has yet to do can be done together, as two wounded warriors fighting for a better future.

This is just...very Kalluzeb. This is them. Their lives during the Rebellion, when they're not always together on the same missions; their lives after the Rebellion, when they've found peace and they have to adjust to not being at war anymore; their lives together at all knowing they used to be enemies, but also that they were somehow pulled together by the Ashla for better things.

The poem is called Kismet. And how could they believe that it took anything less than an act of fate to bring them together, with all the history they had? How much more blessed could their union be, if destiny itself worked on their behalf?

For me the most fascinating aspect of Hera’s character is her relationship with her culture. Like, it directly affects everything about her because she’s only ever known war, to the point she never even spared a thought of what she would do once it was over, and because of the ridge with her father she can’t even help Ryloth directly for a long time, and then once that’s opened up again she’s immediately forced to gamble away her home in Order to protect the only piece of her mother and her brother she still has left. Like all series she very competently walks the tightrope of being as professional as possible while still trying to be gentle to her adopted kids who are also kind her subordinates and yet her relationship with her planet is one of the few things that makes her lose balance. I just think she’s so neat. This has nothing to do with that other post btw I just agree with you that Hera is such a well written character and I wanted to share some thoughts

this is sooooooo good and yes i agree! hera is so fascinating, and while i obviously love her relationship with kanan and the maternal side of her, and that IS an important part of her character, there’s also so much more to her and it’s really sad that everyone reduces her to “wife and mother,” especially when i feel like she is a character purposefully written to break the mold of the typical mom character

challenge for the star wars fandom: say something about hera without calling her spacemom or just focusing on her romantic life. instead try:

her relationship to her culture/homeworld

her relationship with her own parents/childhood

her love of flying

her relationship to organized military (in the rebellion and the new republic)

her abilities as a mechanic

her leadership skills

and so much more!

If I felt more confident in writing SW characters, I would prob write a novel worth fic of the Bounty Hunter Leia AU that lives in my head.

Leia Skywaker was raised on Tatooine by her aunt and uncle, who tried their hardest to sway Leia into NOT being a Bounty Hunter. Unfortunately for them, she cannot be stopped, especially considering she met got saved by a mandalorian at age 9 and thought they were the coolest person ever. Most of the money she makes from bounties, she sends to her aunt and uncle, she never uses her last name in travels (doesn’t want it to possibly get back to her family) and she never takes bounties for the Empire although she has been tempted, but only to beat Boba Fett.

Meanwhile Ben Kenobi is trying his hardest to get this 16 year old to stay on Tatooine for more than an hour to talk to her about the Force.

Hey what are your thoughts on starbee?

Ohh it's a good ship and i like it and share fanart of it and stuff, but it isn't really a ship that I personally ship on my own! like I've written for it, and I share stuff but for personal reasons I am not like a hardcore shipper of it but it's alright! like I used to ship it a lot but not so much anymore. but it's a really cute ship I'm just indifferent.

#lets just say a really REALLY popular blogger whose whole personality in the ship #was kinda harassing people who shipped mega//star #and after that i just kinda had a sour taste in my mouth because all of their followers were bashing it as well #and i saw a lot of people who ship that ship saying really awful things about mega//star shippers #and while i get it - i still don't think flat out harassment and ship ahte is okay #esp when you sayharmful things like-the shippers of ms are just abuse apologist #whem a.) most of us are victims ourselves and b.) not everyone ships it in an abusive awy #like a lot of us like to repair their relationship and make them heal together #but the point is #i have a short fuse #and if i have a ship i like but i see those shippers hating my otp #then i start hating that ship #the saaaaaame thing happened with me and sky////star #i loved star and sky//fire buuuut #a lot of those shippers started harassing m*gastar shippers so yeah #the worst thing abt shippers in this fandom is that they cannot stay in their own lane #and popular bloggers will hate a ship and make it their whole personality #and that is unforutantely what im seeing with this really popular star//bee shipper on twitter #they make me feel so unsafe so I just associate star//bee with them

I love the live action portrayal of clone wars Ahsoka and I think the first scene is spot on, no complaints, but I wish more time or thought had gone into the second scene. I say this because by her looking the exact same as she did at the start of the war it fails to highlight the fact that she grew up in this war. Her fighting in the war as a child is already horrific, but her going from a child to almost an adult and still fighting in the same war makes it even worse. I know that this is just cosmetic and that a piece of media doesn’t and shouldn’t have to do the heavy lifting for fans to understand things, but in this scenario I wish they would have because I’m seeing so much of people focusing on the fact that she was a child soldier and missing the Yes, Also of her being a child soldier who never got to leave war behind before she grew up.

Indigo "Skylights" Asterix Pollux Kosjisk Ankabut Fatespinner is my pirate!! Quite awhile back one of my friends mentioned the idea of an all-gnome pirate crew whose ship’s name is comprised of the names of all the ships they’ve successfully raided and/or destroyed, and long story short it ended up being a one-shot and hopefully an ongoing series of one-shots :D

Indigo is the ship’s navigator and lookout; they’re a circle of stars druid, and their star map is a gold false eye etched with constellations, with a Gem of Brightness core that can project the stars outward-- which is, not to brag, the coolest idea I’ve ever had about anything (it’s an admittedly low bar; I’m not a very creative Ideas Guy lmao)

also their Archer starry form gives them a flintlock that shoots comets, and their Primal Savagery cantrip is flavored as a cutlass that’s formed from an extension of their starlight :D

Anon I love you mwah mwah this is all I was thinking about while at the eye doctor today and lemme tell you. I still have nothing.

Like Koro-Sensei's the easiest to do a reverse Self Ship for because he is a self shipper, especially with cool characters from anime and manga which is what my default media is buuut

I don't think I'd be his type in a fictional setting. Koro-Sensei has a very prominently big titty girl that could beat your ass type when it comes to anime. He likes Shonen and action and cool main characters with super neat powers. I.. don't and probably wouldn't fit into or be from an anime like that (a sweet slice of life maybe, one of the side characters to the main romance?)

I just don't think I as a character would fall into his range. I mean maybe, we all have our outta left field F/Os here and there. It's just unlikely.

Taking into consideration this Highschool or maybe Office Job Slice of Life Comedy Romance setting, I'd probably be a side character, implied canon queer rep in 2015 manga that got censored for the Anime, or even fully cut because I'm just one of the friend group who didn't get a real episode to himself till book 7 or so, and didn't end up with anyone in the end. The manga readers (like Koro-Sensei) are die hard fans, the Anime Onlys have no idea what they're talking about. I have no official merch and the Mangaka only draws me in the big promotional group images sometimes.

I could see Koro-Sensei being really upset about the lack of content about his favorite character and setting out to make it all on his own. He write the X Readers and draws all the fanart and makes a whole Stan blog and everything. Goes really hard about it for two weeks or so, and ends up burning himself out on it. Then he'd switch hyper focus onto something else and leave it all to rot in the bowels of A03.

That's about all I have for it right now, and probably eve will have? At least for Koro-Sensei. I have some other ideas for other Reverse Self Ships thanks to the Discord bouncing the idea around this morning a lot.
