"Of course I'm not, why on Earth would I be intimidating?" Maria said stirring the tea for them, a playful idea entering her mind as she glanced back at Gareth with a warm smile. She decided that perhaps now was a chance to show him why she had been a good agent, playful of course, there was something slightly thrilling too about pushing at the boundary line of tension that seemed drawn between them. "I mean that's what made me quite a good agent, I was unassuming and unlike other agents I didn't go blustering into things, not everything requires a sledgehammer to get the job done."

Maria took her tea to the small coffee table first, minus a tea spoon. Then she returned to the counter, crossed behind Gareth's chair and put his tea on the table in front of him.

"Sometimes something much softer can work just as well as brute force or intimidation," Maria returned to the counter and then crossed behind Gareth's chair again, pausing. "Of course I'm not intimidating-" She said voice light and happy before she leaned in silently, pressed the base of her teaspoon gently against his throat and with her voice almost a whisper said,

"Until I need to be."

"Sir- Oh- uhm." Tanner had entered the archives in a bluster, whatever tension had been in the air evaporated and Maria stepped away from Gareth suppressing a laugh. Tanner didn't quite seem to know what to do or if he'd interrupted something he wished he hadn't.

"Tea? Tanner?" Maria asked him with a delightful smile.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
