reiderwriter 5k writing challenge

hello, my lovelies, and thank you so much for 5k followers~♡ it's been just under a year since I started writing on here, and it's been so fun interacting with everyone and writing for Spencer and the other members of the BAU team! I was a bit unprepared for some of my other milestones and threw some stuff together last minute for them, but I've been thinking about a writing challenge for a while and I finally decided to do it!

Please note: This is a writing challenge! All the prompts below are meant to inspire you to write your own fics and not as prompt requests for me. I hope you can use them as a starting point to write~♡

The theme for the challenge is:

daydreams and shooting stars`☆

There are two sets of prompts to choose from! The daydreams' prompts are based on classic fanfiction tropes that we know and live, and the shooting stars prompts are based on the zodiac signs. There are 12 prompts in each list, and you're welcome to mix and match prompts as you like! Maybe you'd like to combine your star sign with your favourite trope, or two particularly match well, or if you like a single prompt, you can just write for that. I don't mind if the fic is only very loosely based on the prompt, too, do whatever you'd like!

The writing challenge will run up until my 1 year writing anniversary, July 27th, so you have plenty of time to get your fics in! I'll be reblogging all the entries, and at the end, I'll add them to a recommendation list! Be sure to tag @reiderwriter in your fic, or use the hashtag #reidersdaydreams or #reidersshootingstars in your tags! I'll be tracking both~♡ You can submit as many entries as you like!

without further ado, here are the prompt lists~☆

DAYDREAMS

ONLY ONE BED - a true classic in the sense that I will be reading only one bed fics down to the second I take my last breath. Feel free to invert this to "too many beds," or even "no beds at all, but somehow we're still cuddling," either way, I will read it and likely enjoy it greatly.

GRUMPY X SUNSHINE - which character is grumpy, which character is sunshine? my favourite grumpy x sunshine dynamics are the gloomy character trying their best to become more sunny after a tough life 🫡

FAKE DATING - we, in the criminal minds fandom, have written possibly every undercover mission possible to make our characters make out, but I'm coming in as a simple woman to ask - please do it again 🫶

OH. OH. - the plot revelations! Give me them! The sudden moments of clarity! I'm a fan, goddammit.

IDIOTS IN LOVE - there is nothing better than two huge dumbasses falling head over heels in love with each other in an "aw shucks" kind of way. Also, I'm an idiot, representation matters.

ALTERNATE UNIVERSE - coffee shop AU? Soulmate AU? HANAHAKI AU? If someone could please un- or re- traumatise my favourite characters I will be eternally grateful

SECRET IDENTITY - give the character their Emily Prentiss Lauren Reynolds moment, or just make them dress like a clown for like 30 minutes. Both count.

MUTUAL PINING - This harkens back to idiots in love, but it's about the LONGING, it's about the PITIFUL STARES, it's about the BURNING PASSION.

SECRET RELATIONSHIP - my love of gossip makes me a sucker for secret relationship stories because I truly want to be in everyone's business. Character A and B are dating? Brilliant. It's a secret? BRILLIANT.

SICK FIC - your poor little meow meow has a cold. Or your poor little meow meow has been poisoned with anthrax. Or your poor little meow meow is dealing with possible symptoms of schizophrenia. Or your poor little meow meow has been shot-

PSYCHO X PSYCHO - reidams fans, this one's for you 🥰

ENEMIES TO LOVERS - half of my requests are enemies to lovers requests! Feel free to include rivals to lovers, lovers to enemies, friends to enemies to lovers, enemies to friends to lovers, or any such dynamic that your heart desires.

SHOOTING STARS:

Sagittarius - "If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything."

Capricorn - "There's a low-level, specific pain and having to accept that putting up with you requires a certain generosity of spirit in your loved ones."

Aquarius - "An education was a bit like a communicable sexual disease. It made you unsuitable for a lot of jobs, and then you had the urge to pass it on."

Pisces - "I think it's perfectly acceptable and rather admirable to be moderately delusional."

Rules:

I'm accepting reader insert, an Original Character, a character/character ship, a platonic ship, or a Gen fics for this challenge. It can feature any Criminal Minds character or any character from any fandom you write for. I assume a lot of people will stick with CM, but feel free to write for whoever you choose!

NEW INTRO!

Hi, my name is Iris, and this is my mythology blog!

Important things about me:

-First. I am a minor. I am not disclosing my age here (and please don't ask me to), but I will say that I am a teenager. I add this because this will contribute to several of my rules on this blog, but because I am also mutuals with 18+ people and I want to give them a choice if they want to follow me after learning I am under 18 or not. I'm sorry for not mentioning this before, mutuals who are reading, but I am in fact a minor. (I also ask that mutuals who do know my age to not mention it here).

I do also do Greek mythology, JTTW, and a little bit of Norse and Egyptian!

My primary posting type is head canons or incorrect quotes.

-I do in fact reblog things that I believe are funny, need to be heard, or align with my own personal beliefs.

No, that's not the case. I usually follow blogs who I've already had interacted with for some time, or blogs I had interest in and followed first. If we've never interacted before, I don't follow back. I also unfollow blogs who I am no longer interacting with to clean up my dash. This blog is semi-selective, but it's not mutual exclusive. We can talk and RP together even if we're not mutuals. Neither you or I have any obligation to follow each other for the sake of being mutuals if either of us don't feel like it. That being said, if we already have some interaction and we wrote a little together and had something good going, I'll likely follow you back. so long as we're mutuals ya'll are always welcome to poke at me & my kiddos here at any time - be it thru ims or over disc (same as acct name uwu) - for just about anything; chatting, plotting, whichever c;

i am always gonna grabby hands, im awkward / anxiety-ridden so i tend to not wanna 'bug' peeps first but do know you can at any time drop into my dms. :)

that being said, because its been tickling my brain since gun dropped the Ass-Fanfic Lore yet again:

when it comes to ships / dynamics / bonds / however you wanna call them, i don't really auto ship any of my roster with anyone, incl any canon ships. i work that out based on chemistry & hashing out ideas and thoughts about them.

on that note though, for the core friend-group: with how i write maria and now danny, they both love very deeply and very passionately. their baseline dynamics however with literally any of the group is, to me, always platonic soulmates, with the possibility of budding into something else depending on chemistry / plotting / all that fun stuff.

so when i talk about how much they both adore and love their friends (and note that this extends to other muses who get absorbed into the friend group) by default i am always referring to that platonic soulmate type of bond if we haven't directly talked about anything going further than that. with a sprinkle of silly, playful flirtiness from time to time - because what friends dont occasionally flirt? fhsdkj

+ you are under 21, are racist, transphobic, homophobic, antisemitic, ableist, pedophilic, harass others, etc. + you write an original character with little to no information, as I need something to go off of to think of how to interact with your muse. + write an animated character / use an animated fc without having a live-action fc available to use instead (realistic animation (i.e. animation that looks very close to real life people) is fine though, and i don’t mind if you are a multi that has animated fcs on your blog), use youtubers, models, singers, or any other non-actors as your fc. + post an excessive amount of ooc (enough to constantly spam my dash; i don’t mind if you post more ooc than actual rp most days bc i do the same), have constant poor grammar / spelling mistakes (though i'll be more lenient if english isn't your first language), partake in petty, pointless drama, or write in a lot of purple prose / overly format your posts. + don't tag triggering content, write a lot of incest, child death, and any form of abuse (i.e. domestic, sexual, etc), or focus heavily on pregnancy plots. + you follow me first and make no attempt to interact with me, are absent from your blog for long amounts of time (without posting a hiatus warning), disrespect people's boundaries, vague blog, or post a lot of callouts. + if you are a personal blog, follow and unfollow me to try to get my attention, send me things (i.e. memes / rp stuff) when we aren't mutuals, harass my friends, just use me as a number for your follower count, ignore the things i write for you (especially if it's me answering a meme you sent in or writing you a starter), or don't put in the effort for a ship that i have grown invested in. + if you follow me to write / ship with my male muses and ignore my female & oc muses.

SEVEN. I do not deal with ooc drama. If I see it happening on my dash I will not get involved in it, and if it reaches a certain point, I will probably block the person(s) in question.

To add to this: I do not view certain ‘callouts’ as ‘drama’. If someone is bringing attention to harmful behavior, that’s fine. I won’t hesitate to heed that person’s warning and acknowledge / reblog that post if I feel that it is necessary. The types of ‘callouts’ I find unnecessary are the ones where someone is just being petty and talking shit because they don’t like someone and/or are bullying them. That’s something you could handle privately and doesn’t need to be on the dash and/or just block the person and move on. I will not tell you who and who not to write with. I would much rather simply block anyone I wish not to see on my dash. That said, please do not hesitate to inform me if I'm interacting with someone who is a genuinely toxic individual.

Haven't blogged in a while and now that I started by posting two text posts I suddenly feel like saying a little more.

Deleted Instagram on my phone a few days ago because something was wrong with it and I couldn't get it to work. Normally I would have simply uninstalled and reinstalled but after uninstalling it I just decided to leave it. Without telling anyone or saying anything. The ability to just do that has honestly been one of the reasons I don't think I could ever mod or admin for a mutual aid account or help out on one like that. I think I haven't really forgotten the three years or so I wasn't on social media and how much I didn't miss it, its presence. Those were days with time more free. Less things grabbing at my attention. I definitely didn't buy as much, or at least I think I didn't.

I don't get notifications for emails unless they're in the Focused section, so I don't get notifications often. Almost all the newsletters I'm subscribed to or get that are for businesses I don't really ever even see. There are so many, when I went to look earlier, a little curious. I stopped looking after about 3 seconds of scrolling. I don't like that kind of touting, endless, endless touting, all in your personal inbox. Endless trying to sell you something, demanding your attention. I have enough emails from school and placement that already demand enough of my attention. That's also why I've never really bothered trying to sell things of mine - I don't want to contribute to being another person trying to sell you/people something.

Tumblr feels different too, a little, changing perhaps. As I say that I remember that the Japanese Bathhouse near me that my husband/partner and I go to is closing at the end of this year for good, after over 20 years of being around. We only started going this year. It'll be a shame. But there have already been so many changes and places that have gone while we haven't been in the past year or two. The years are going by so fast. I haven't even had time to look. I knew uni would take up my time, lock me in here in Naarm (Melbourne), but not quite like this.

I don't write much on here any more. And when I do, it rarely gets interacted with. But when I do write something, whether it's just to add on to another's post or reblog, or a text post of my own like this, those are the posts I really check back to see if anyone's engaged with, hope that someone has. It's not even so much that I don't want to but that I've been elsewhere - Instagram, mostly. It just seemed like there were more people with faces that I could see actually engaging with things I needed them to engage with, like talking about social issues. It's easy to ignore a post on Tumblr and just scroll past, but a (to some extent) captive audience of people whose faces you can see and who can see your face seemed more direct, more appropriate to making change or speak directly to, in a way, about things I wanted people to know about.

The years have gone by so fast. It'll be another decade to add to my life soon. This study has been so long. But I'm nearly through it. And suddenly I realise how much I've changed. And as I lie here in a friend's bed we're borrowing while my partner's family are visiting and staying in his room, and him beside me, I realise how much of it now is really that I've changed after meeting him.

And then the feeling suddenly of being aware of a threshold I'm approaching, the sudden line I feel myself approaching that feels like approaching being too sincere, the little jolt of that line, like electric. But then that was something else I wanted to say, too - I wish we were all more sincere. You really do have to want it enough, just on the line enough to be a little raw. I think you know when you're getting it right when you're a little scared about it; when you're invested enough to know that you could be hurt because you're vulnerable, creaching (creeping + reaching, not raiding and plundering) a little out of your comfort zone.

I don't want to just mindlessly swipe the reblog button on a post as I scroll endlessly through Tumblr, the way I've noticed I have been multiple times of late. I find myself scrolling past long text posts or saving them for later.

I love being on here still but it also, somehow, doesn't feel so much like we actually Talk to one another, the way it used to be. There's maybe one person I follow who still adds what they have to say on posts they reblog. I like that. I kind of wish we all still did that more.

It's funny because I'm terrible at maintaining conversations with people on here. Whether by chat or by email or letter. Though in reality I think, the way we use social media is exactly how we are in public spaces as a society - we pass strangers all the time, don't really talk or initiate conversation unless we need - sure we occupy the same public space together (which, really, is what the internet is, to some extent, and our accounts or pages are like our own spaces, but platforms are public), there are some people we know and nod to or interact with, like the regular shop you go to to buy something or just pop in to say hi, then the regular cafe, supermarket, etc., that are our mutuals, local shops - but we don't necessarily always talk in much depth or regularity. Sometimes shops close down or the regular barista quits and you didn't realise or they didn't say and you don't say that again; sometimes people disappear or disengage. But it's not all that different.

It's late now and I don't know where this is going. My life now is these last years of study and game (FFXIV), and my husband. I haven't travelled in years, not really, not since I started this studying, and I haven't taken pictures of myself for most of that time too. Haven't worn much lingerie in the past year, haven't studied new languages much though I would have loved to. Don't read much any more, either. Don't journal often, any more, either. But I think these are, like those years I was travelling, and busy, a time of content[ment]. I am, actually, on placement, doing what all this study is for. It's meaningful. I'm happy. Doing what I nearly broke my back to get here to try to do. Being with my husband/partner. Playing a game. Playing it with friends. I got tender, and mellow, and tame, by his side. Comfortable and even weirder and sillier. Really like a stray that walked into a bar and got picked up and taken home and kept, which is, really, what happened.

Grateful days. My gods are good to me. Answer when I pray. A kind god and the other devoted to the first.

I think all religion, really, comes down to - be sincere, be grateful. Be here now.

Chapter 14 - First Steps on Deck - Part 1

Agenor

I allowed him to break the kiss as he gasped for air. He panted between my arms and I offered him a genuine smile.

"Why the smile? My neck is killing me," he complained.

"I'm just happy to be with you. Does that confuse you?" I teased, enjoying his beautiful angry gaze.

But, wanting to change the mood, I released my arms and reached for a nearby box. Grabbing a shirt, I draped it over Nyx's shoulders to check the size.

"What's next?" he asked.

"Well, you did complain about being half-naked," I reminded him.

He sniffed and wiped away his tears.

"Fine, I can find one myself. Don't bother."

Ignoring his combative tone, I replied...

"Let me help. This one won't do."

I proceeded to pull out several more options from various boxes and draped them over him, checking the size and style. For once, he stood still, facing away from me but his pouty attitude amused me.

"Not this one... too big... too old... way too big..."

I continued the search. He turned to me, holding up a shirt.

"This one's maybe good," he said and I suppressed a smirk, knowing it was too soon to provoke him again.

"It's good," I said.

"But it's... so like you."

"What's that supposed to mean?" he snapped.

"Nothing bad," I replied, diffusing the tension.

"I just think there are more convenient options in there for a pirate."

"Okay, now I want it even more," he insisted and I chuckled.

"Not happening."

I tossed the shirt behind me.

"Hey, that was probably the first one that was my size." he protested."

You don't want to wear that," I warned him.

"I don't even remember whose it was but it probably belonged to the son of some wealthy merchant I attacked or something."

"I have a feeling I don't want to know about its history," he muttered, but still he insisted.

"I'll take it anyway."

Shaking my head, I stood firm.

"No. You can't walk among those wolves in that."

His eyes widened with surprise.

"You're letting me out, You're releasing me, aren't you?"

His blue eyes sparkled with hope, urging me to agree to anything he said so I clarified...

"Out of this cabin, yes. But I'm not releasing you."

His smile faltered a bit, but he remained optimistic.

"Oh... At least I'll be able to move about a little. I won't try to escape, I promise."

I immediately latched on the subject and couldn't help but add a warning...

"Even if you wanted to, you wouldn't be able to. We're in the middle of the sea and there's no Regina left to swim to. If you try anything without my permission, I'll personally ensure that you regret it. The same goes for suicide. Even if you succeed, I'll make sure you regret it while watching from the other side. Is that clear, Nyx?"

He listened attentively, looking confused at the last part. After a few seconds, he realized what I meant.

"Don't go near my family, Agenor," he exclaimed.

"Why would I? As long as you don't try anything stupid," I replied, trying to calm him down.

As he glared menacingly at me, I met his gaze with a cold stare. He was angry again. I had intended to give him a black spot but now I realized I needed to take stronger action. Loose behavior could not be tolerated on my ship, and he had to learn to abide by my rules.

"Fine," he said finally.

"I won't disobey you, Agenor. And I'm not suicidal. I was just too tired and desperate when I tried to grab the dagger. I won't do that again. But if I make any mistakes, then get even with me, not my family. They've suffered enough already."

"Like I said, as long as you don't attempt anything stupid."

He broke our mutual glare and went for another box, rifling through clothes and items until he found a blue shirt.

"I'll wear this one. Let's go."

"In a hurry, are we?" I asked.

"I really need to see some free sky."

"Fine," I said, standing up.

He followed me, closing the distance between us and stretching his neck and giving me access to his collar. God, he never stops trying. I pulled away from his beautiful neck and headed for the bed, where I retrieved a small key from my pocket and opened the lock. I held the end of the chain in my hand, smiled proudly at him and said...

"Now we go."

The expression on the face at the other end of the chain caught me off guard.

"What's wrong?" I asked, confused.

"You expect me to walk out of here with you leading me on a leash?" he retorted, his tone incredulous.

I didn't know what to say.

"You can stay here if you want," I offered menacingly.

"No, I want to go out. Take off my collar," he demanded, sounding more forceful this time.

Taken aback by his sudden shift in demeanor, I replied,

"You're giving me orders now?"

He looked at me with disappointment and retreated to the window, crouching under it. What was he trying to achieve? Was he looking for a fight? Did he really think he could order me around like that? I couldn't help but yell his name angrily...

"Nyx."

But he interrupted me calmly, in a voice that sounded like surrender...

"I'm not defying you, Agenor. I really can't go out like this. Being dragged around with a chain and a collar, it only means I'm..."

"You're what?"

"Either a slave or a dog."

I was taken aback by his words. My first thought was that his thoughts needed straightening. Then I thought twice about it. And damn it, he was right. Dragging him around on a leash didn't align with what I wanted him to be. But he could have just asked me to stop. Would I have listened, though? Maybe if he kissed me...

I let out a sigh, pulling myself out of my own thoughts. I dropped the chain and walked over to him. I retrieved the second key from my pocket, kneeling down to unlock the collar around his neck. He seemed surprised but didn't move. After unlocking the chain, I secured the collar back in place. When I finished, I ran my fingers through his silky hair.

"Don't make me repeat myself, Nyx. You are not a slave. You're simply mine," I whispered, my gaze locked with his beautiful eyes.

My fingers trailed down the length of his neck before I leaned in to plant a soft kiss on his lips. I had to break the kiss, if I gave in to my primal urges, we'd never leave the cabin. Reluctantly, I pulled back and stood up. Seeing him crouched before me with those appreciating eyes. The sight of him made me had and I felt uncomfortable down there.

"Let's go," I said, trying to focus on my promise to him.

"What about the collar?" he asked, his voice uncertain.

"It stays right where it is. Nothing you say or do will make me take it off, so don't worry about it. However, you can stay here if you want to," I replied, trying to sound firm.

"No, I want to go out," he said, sounding more confident this time.

"Alright then," I said, glad that he was willing to trust me.

As we walked towards the door, he suddenly stopped. I knew exactly why he had halted and I couldn't help but smirk.
