not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…
‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.
idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

I really wish I could go back in time and reread my favorite fanfiction for the first time.
I mean, I’m still going to reread it. But it would be nice to relive the joy of feeling everything with such depth and novelty all over again.

➡️ Content warnings on fiction are a courtesy.
➡️ Not every medium of fiction and storytelling has or is expected to have content warnings or extensive tagging.
➡️ Print novels do not traditionally warn for content in any way.
➡️ Until AO3 came along, fanfiction did not traditionally warn for content in any significant way.
➡️ An author is only obligated to warn for content to the degree mandated by the format they publish their fiction on.
➡️ Content warnings beyond the minimum are a courtesy, not an obligation.
➡️ 'Creator chose not to warn' is a valid tag that authors are allowed to use on AO3. It means there could be anything in there and you have accepted the risk. 'May contain peanuts!'
➡️ Writers are allowed to use 'Creator chose not to warn' for any reason, including to maintain surprise and avoid spoilers.
➡️ 'Creator chose not to warn' is not the same thing as 'no archive warnings apply'.
➡️ It is your responsibility to protect yourself and close a book, or hit the back button if you find something in fiction that you're reading that upsets you.
➡️ You are responsible for protecting yourself from fiction that causes you discomfort.

Are you going to post a new chapter today?
YES, I certainly plan to. My week has been beyond miserable and I'm a bit out of sorts tbh. It warms my heart to know that someone somewhere is waiting around for my update. Thank you!

First and Last Line Tag
Rules- In a new post the first and last lines of the last ten fics you posted.
I was tagged by @inastarlesssky Thank you! These are always fun!
(First lines are PINK, last are PURPLE, pick whatever colors you like)
Better Than Revenge
“I hate Quidditch,” she muttered to herself as she stomped toward the portrait hole that led out of the Gryffindor common room.
Hermione didn’t get a single word written on her paper for the rest of the day. (end of Chapter 27 of the WIP)
2. This is Not the End
Pull yourself together, you bloody fucking idiot, Theo Nott scolded himself.
For a few seconds, they looked silently into each other's eyes, and the distant and impossible suddenly became near, possible, and inevitable.
3. Ruin Me
“Quit following me, Malfoy.”
“It’s time we let everyone know that you’re mine.”
If you would like to play this fun little tag game, please join in! Consider yourself invited! I'm actively not tagging anyone on this post.

Tell us how you got started in writing fan fiction?
I absolutely love BTR by the way. It's one of my favorite Hogwarts era fics!
First off, thanks so much for the compliment!!
Well it started in 2009 when I was a teenager obsessed with Justin Bieber and I found that people wrote stories on this website called Quizzilla.
I don't know how it happened, but somehow from there I found Dramione and began writing that. I actually wrote under a different Pseudonym ages and ages ago. It feels like a different life back then. Life got crazy, a family member passed, and I was working on an original work, so I stopped writing fanfiction for a long, long while. When I picked it up again in 2018/2019, I felt like I had changed so much as a person that my old pen name and life didn't fit my new work, so I created OxfordElise as a new name, and here we are.
I wish I could remember more about how specifically I found Dramione and started writing. It genuinely feels like a blank hole in my brain. IDK.
