Loosen up
How do I do it
Well, at least one way of doing it is just chilling, turning on Netflix, and watching some horror. Yep. Some ghosts and scary jumps will do it for me. Makes me downright euphoric! Now of course I can’t just sit and not do something with my hands. So the iPad is right nearby and I would like to show you some freestyle work that I did. I’m loving t but would be interested in what you guys think.
The process
Actually, it’s just like mediation. I choose a color pallet and then choose some digital brushes that have shapes and textures. In these images, I used the oils pallet, ink, and then some shapes, dots, etc. Just whatever dazzles your eyes and tickles your mind. That tickling your mind is the important part. I also used the liquid options to make things a little special on a couple of these. You can see the shapes in the “Lakes and Mountains” background. I especially like the black addition to this. The small hash marks and the round circles just make my eye want to run over and over this image. Little flicks of gold in it. I knew I wanted to put some gold in it because I had been on Tik Tok and saw some furniture redos and they added pieces of gold leafing in their process although I have not been a fan of “gold” for a few years somehow I really started to be drawn to it. I am also going to add some bits of silver to them as well.
In the “Rain on the Ocean” background, you can really see the cracks in the lower part of the image giving it an old look and adding texture. I used more of an umber color instead of black so that it would not compete with the black dots. I am obsessed with dots. For highlights, I have used some complimentary colors but in neon to offset the neutral colors. You can see a bit of a brick wall as well towards the upper part of the background.
Shown here is Passion, another background image. I uploaded this in a jpg. just due to the large file size. I didn’t want to reduce this at 50% like I did the other just because If I package these up for download (and I am thinking of doing that) I like to give my customer the best printable file and that is a png. They are very heavy files but really pick up all the colors and detail. Not that you can get a great printout with a jpg I just love png formats. Most likely both files will be added to my downloadable. That is also something I like doing providing multiple file options in my packages. It is just nice. It’s easy to “save as” but some people may not have that capability.
What are some of the things you can do with these?
Well there are a lot of things. First off I think these are just beautiful as is. I would love to get a print of a couple. you could even take and add to the print once you got them. A bit of texture, some gold or silver. Photos places over them and then some fabric and string for a collage. Just anything. But I made these for some digital creations.
So here is a sketch. This is a city corner. I kind of like the sketchiness of it. I used the background “lakes and mountains” on this and applied it with a clipping mask then filled in the buildings. Now I did add some watercolor to it to create a bit of shadowing. It got a bit too muddy on the building second from the from on the righthand side but then that can all be changed because I was using layers so I can toss that one out and apply a different technique. On the whole it wasn’t bad. My object was to keep the messy look.
Now to just see what it would look like with a global gradient applied I went ahead and put it through that filter. The yellow and black looked the best. If I continue to play around with it I could get a bit more defined image and perhaps I will do that, but you will have to come back in a few days when I have had the time to be more playful in my work.
So drop a comment below and tell me what you think. Would you use the backgrounds in this way or perhaps another? What do you think of the background?

Tarot and Art
Therapy in a box
Sometimes when you are in and swimming around in this big world you start to question, “is this all there is”? So this journal entry will be, for me that is, is there anything I could do to give speed to the quest of a job or client I seek?
Now, let’s draw the card.
I’m going to use a single draw because I really have everything else down. I am a creator, I voice I am a creator, I am learning how to voice it on paper now as well, i.e. resumes, and portfolios. I am making notes and then making changes. But I want to make sure there are no hidden things that will trip me up. Again. I don’t want to fall asleep so to speak at the helm or the wheel. I want my mind engaged and my energy behind it 110%.
So before I pull the card I need to check and see if I have my fear in check. I don’t want that energy anywhere near my fingers. I also don’t want my ego to start dictating what path is going to be acceptable or that it’s supposed to come in a certain package. I need clarity and for that, I need to put my glasses of clarity on. Shameless plug you can follow me on TikTok and see some of what I am talking about here over there as I dial in each day from your inner self to give you encouragement and love for your day.
I’ll be using the Seasons of the Witch Deck (more of an optical deck than tarot) You can purchase them here Seasons of the Witch
So my my card was the Owl. The Owl says:
Behold sight, oh ancient ones. For there is magic in the darkest of places if one dares to open their eyes.
I think the Sanderson Sisters says that all. They did look in the darkest of places. Some may say they starred into that dark void a bit too long. LOL But the magic that this movie brings me and my family has been priceless. It is every thing that we all loved in a story. The Book, the zombie, the cat, the kids. Its just a really cool story. Just so everyone knows that Witches are not baby eating, soul sucking, Satanic worshiping evil beings. Or at least most of us aren’t.
The Sanderson Sisters
This image was worked up in Procreate. I used pastel brushes and layering techniques. I have the also worked into an animation. The candles
Tarot Cards
I came back to this post and realized that it never went out last week. I have Had so much going on that I must not have hung around and pressed post. That little word that seems at times to be so hare to do when you are in your own head and life is bombarding you with hurtles. This makes me very disappointed in myself but I do have to give myself some compassion because we have been to the ER with my 28 year old with an allergic reaction that has left them with a form of meningitis and some neurological effects. We are hoping that this will go away but this was caused by an antibiotic that is prescribed and goes under two names hence the confusion when it was prescribed to them. This was the second time and this was an increased reaction from the first. Well that is it. I am going to start drafting the next blog entry so that I can get that out on time. don’t for get to sign up for our email and you will get some nice little halloween printable. Until next time beloveds, thank you for following for reading and interacting with this old late post. Enjoy your spooking days this October. See you next time.

Remember what you came for
Remember what you came here for
Let me define “here”. Not here as in this blog post but here in this creative part of life. That spot. I came for freedom of expression. To work on the ability to express myself. To hone that and make it clear. I wanted to do that for my healing. For my life. To have a purposeful life. One that I felt included in and loved in. To be acknowledged in. Valued in. In my life, I have had very good fortune and I have had very bad fortune. Fortune is transient. Just like health or popularity. It moves freely. So I always try and keep that initial feeling of why I wanted to do what I am doing. If that feeling is still that strong push and desire, that craving. That tickly feeling in your heart. Then I know that I’m still in the right place.
But what happens when things are hard
I spend hours on the internet applying for jobs and sending submissions to companies. Some I really don’t have the qualifications but I have enough of them to know I could give it a fair shot. Some I am overqualified for. After all, I have been on the planet 61 rotations. I have learned a lot and I have worked a lot. It can be exhausting to have no calls, and sometimes the rejection emails are few and far. It feels like dropping the penny in the well. Time after Time.
Now Put all of this action and now add keeping your own algorithm going and creating and practicing so that new styles and new looks can be put into it Keep up with today’s standards so that I would be found lacking. I was lacking so pretty substantial components in my portfolio that I am having to remedy now. it. It can feel like you are spinning plates in the air and thinking of all the ways that they can come crashing down on you.
I don’t say these things to say oh look at me I’m so stressed. I just say them because that is what it is. The truth. It just is what it is. Do I get overwhelmed? Yes.
How can this even be doable you may wonder
I have always made sure that I could take a nap or some moment of the day alone. To have my tea or coffee. I have also gotten very creative during times of change or just rediscovery, and that has been very therapeutic and cathartic. The creative process and the required focus and artistic expression can be a wonderful path to follow when trying to figure out a new adventure or leave an old one. To dream, to create, express your voice. People do it with paper or makeup or yard work or gardening. It’s that meditative state that frees up the mind from anxiety and fear and and allows that supportive voice to start to talke and present new options and self-discovery.
Journaling…
Is a wonderful way to get you to think outside the box. I use Journaling and tarot cards to inspire me on what to write or to give me a different perspective on a problem or if I’m thinking about a new direction in my art. I have included some of my collection of tarot cards here on my website if you would like to purchase them. This helps me in creating income for my studio by the use of these amazon links. So here is the one I used for this post.Seasons of the Witch. Back to what I was saying, this is used as prompt or a muse in this example. The journey entry is usually small and focused on what is going through my pink little head at the time. Could be what to do a TikTok on, you never know. Last night I spent a whole night on an octopus and a steampunk diving helmet. LOL, But it made me feel good. I pulled myself out of some huge anxiety issues. This morning I was like wow that was really good.
But, and here is the BUT. WE hold the key to our futures. WE hold that. No one else holds that key. WE are the only ones who can use that key. We have to put it in the lock and turn it and open the door. And walk into that world. The one that we are the captains of our own ship. That WE choose what way to sail.
When things get tough or hard even when they are easy, Remember what you came for. And I will be posting my work on this in tomorrows blog posting. Why don’t you give it a go and I’ll post what you have come up with or post on your own blog and link me. I would love to see it. So Until tomorrow lets make some art. Lots of love bye for now

Life just got a whole lot easier
So for a year, I have struggled with posting not just on a blog but on socialmedia post. Did that just get typed on my keyboard? For as long as I can remember I have struggled. I have always looked at other blogs and thought, “I can do that”. But I never did. Oh I would start a post and then think who cares. It would just stay in the draft folder and never see the light of day much less someone else’s eyes. But as looked deeper and more often, pining away at the beautiful fonts and the imagery, I started to see a trend. They had wonderful images that all seemed to go together. Like a flow. I started to see colors that seemed to change with the seasons. Now of course I thought who the hell has time to do this and create and post and tag it and do it at the proper time? It just seemed like a job within itself. But intrigued me non the less. And I thought again. I can make really nice post. I can create that little thing that makes me unique but, and here is the but, I can do it in a real nondiscript way as well. Or a way that is complimentary of a style that a person may want to reflect themselves. Like if you like Jane Austin then perhaps you would like some cottages or peonies or roses. Maybe some green gardens, or little pin and ink drawings of Jane in a garden just plucking a flower and bringing it to her nose.
I worked with a Marketing Firm
Perhaps I should say they worked with me but what a half-assed attempt at helping me market my art. I was supposed to have someone work with me and post images I believe 4 times per week or maybe it was a month. All I know is it was 4 posts too many. Each time they would post something I would come along and delete it as soon as it hit my feed. The colors were all wrong, and the way it was created looked like it came out of the 1980s. They just took screenshots of my website and then put it on my feed with some shout-out in some font that should have been put out of usage. It embarrassed me. I was like shit that is not me guys! I can do better. That’s when I started paying attention to it all.
Knowing your tools
As I was looking over these creators and appreciating their hard work, I wondered if I could do this for myself and perhaps others who would need something like this. Curated content that gave a spotlight to what was going on in the creator’s business or life or employees’ life at work. How could I showcase that? Everyone wants to have that bit of shine so to speak. You want your place of creation or business to be professional but in the same instance, you want it to speak to the customer or the follower. You want it to be the place that they want to be. Even if it’s at a dentist's office or the OBGYN’s office you want people to come in and feel they know and trust your staff and what you have to offer. I’m no different. I want you all to think of me as a trusted friend that helps out in a creative way.
What do I have that makes it easier?
Well, I have an arsenal of equipment not just an iPhone or a laptop but literally an arsenal of equipment and programming that I have spent years mastering. That’s right, years of mastering. Working with these programs has inspired me and humbled me. The creators that work on these applications are heroes to me. They have made my life much easier and I am just now moving into another phase of digital art.
Digital Media Manager supplier
Digital media is the largest key to online success.
Knowing how and when to post is an art and a job that is a half-mad scientist when it comes to algorithms and getting those clicks. I don’t have it all figured out but I will tell you what I do have figured out and that is the digital media that you post has to be engaging and eye-catching. I have lived on this computer and watched and learned. Top that off with a good eye for art and current trends, well that’s even better. I can tell you that having someone create those little square images and story formats with fresh stories and informative tidbits is worth its weight in gold And that is not just a figure of speech. It can put money in your pocket and your name in some pretty interesting places.
I wanted to do something for those who follow me. For those who have always been there to see what I was up to and who hope for the best for me. So here is what I’m going to do I’m going to give out some free digital art. Some little things that you can have fun with. Post them, print them, and create with them. Tag me and let me see what you do with them. I want to know what you like and what you want more of. So let’s kick it off with some little Halloween cuties!
Now if you are reading this and you wonder do I have to subscribe to another email from you to get the digital spooks? No, you do not. I will include them in the emails that go out with new blog posts. All I ask is that you don’t pass them around but if someone wants them, please direct them over to my website. The more views the more clicks is yet another way to support your favorite artist. It helps.
Well until next time take care.

Stocking Up on Stock Images
Creating That Flow
I thought I would talk about some of the things that I can provide here in the studio. I sometimes shy away from talking about my self or what I have to offer here in the studio and one day I will go into why I am changing that in a big way. Closed mouths don’t get fed as my oldest son says. So I am going talk about some simple ways that you can improve your feeds and give it a professional look. Weather you enlist my services or just need a fresh take on programs or design or like to talk shop.
I know so many authors and artist alike and we all have some of the same problem. Time, the amount of creativeity we have to spend on self promotion and cost factor. In this post I want to jump into tightening up the reinforcement of your brand, project, or theme by having stories that flatter your feed. These are images that pop up in your stories that highlight your important announcements such as a book out or new product to influencing feeds. These images direct the focus back to each other and proved engaging content that leaves animpression. New likes and follows or clicks, purchases, reposting etc.
Did You Know
That I work on a wide variety of art and yet it seems that you can never have enough knowledge. With technological advancements and the rate that creative tools come on the market, I find that I am constantly trying to keep up and learn new skills. So let me take a moment to just give you an idea of what we do here in the studio.
Creating Your Own Stock Photo Collection
I think anyone in today’s world has an enormous potential to create a huge selection of images just from the self-documenting photography that is so easy with the use of your cell phone. I use an iPhone. I see objects or a potential scene that I can photograph and remember colors or a feeling, an idea I wanted to encapsulate and use later. After a good minute, you can develop a folder of stock images for your social media feeds. Even with today’s apps, you can instantly create that little “extra” style or individuality and post it to your social. if you add a small business to that mix then suddenly posting and creating engaging content adds a bit more time commitment and it can get old. Here is what the studio does in order to stay on top of the demand.
As you can imagine working in an art studio and creating a “body of work” that will showcase your talent, growth, and evolution as an artist takes time and effort. I needed a way to have good content without stressing and running out of content. And I’m an artist and I have to make everything look good or artful.
Some Of My Considerations
Developing and having a surplus of images that are unique to me,
Stock Images (keeps content fresh and can be combined with unique features that express branding or style etc.
and that can be formatted to the different requirements of social image-sharing platforms.
Have access to a wide variety of fonts that can be used on different platforms. This part is tricky because you have to pay attention to the license of your font creator or of the platform that hosts the artist.
Some things to look out for
Web usage restriction
Social Media usage
Print Restrictions on manufactured goods etc. (I usually go for the extended version just up from personal use.)
have the ability to work on multiple projects in a cloud environment and have access across apps, computers, and mobile devices
able to update instantly the image and social media.
Keeps my content fresh and flowing.
Being able to change the look and feel instantly of templated media.
For example, one image can be used multiple times in multiple ways and still give unique content. This lengthens the life of the image.
The benefits are enormous. You can create stories to match or compliment your feed. This is one of the things that I have started to implement in my own business and it’s one of the services my studio can provide to anyone wanting to get those posts up and on time.
So I have talked a little today about the things that I wanted to be able to do on my social media platform and on my website. This streamlined my ability to stay organized and get my marketing (yes that is what social media is a marketing tool) Stay in touch with my followers and provide a business, large or small with some quality curated images for what you need.
If you are a business owner or even a social media influencer and need some images crafted to fit your brand or theme then let me know what you are interested in doing. We have packages that start a $99. per month. We can even post them on your media accounts.
Even if you decide that “I can do this myself”, something I always say, you can follow my blog along and I will give you pointers on how to make and schedule posts. How to clean up images and create some eye-catching content.
One last note: If you have not yet make sure you check out the new graphics on the T-shirt section of our shop. We have some of our new Halloween selections dropping all month. Don’t forget we are offering 25% off at check out with discount code REVIEW.
Below you will find some of our newest stock and some of the ways that I layer them together. The links are affiliate links and I do earn a percentage from there as well.
Thanks for checking out my blog post and I will see you again.

Lea is Bang
This is the latest book that I have worked on with author Nadine De Graeve from Wetteren. This book is available to purchase from Boekscout and bookshops in Europe. It was an absolute pleasure. Over 75 pages of illustrations and a story.
You can get more information on ordering on Boekscout
Summary
WWII. In the middle of the night Juul, Margriet and Lea wake up with a start. There is loud knocking and knocking. A getaway car is waiting... They cross the border into France on foot. Julie is nervous. Will he find the farm in the dark where they are expected?
About the author
Nadine De Graeve (1954) lives in Wetteren. For many years she worked as a Dutch teacher. A dream job for someone who loves language. Had no more classes, taught patchwork and attended a year of library school. When she stopped working, her daughters and husband gave her a course in 'Writing Children's Books'. In the meantime she wrote Jealous Maarit, a book for the granddaughters and Lea is bang!. She sent the last manuscript to Boekscout.
