Rook and Jaimie
a little something i wrote for saraza and i’s college au, where zer w+b ocs are college students and they meet my puppetshow charas. this features rook, zer oc, and jaimie, an oc i especially made for this. enjoy!
A trail of sweet perfume wafted towards her and she breathed it in. It smelled so good, so tantalizing that she had to follow it. The one-inch heels of her boots thumped gently against the floor as she trailed after the scent. She reached a corner and looked around. Then she turned right and saw a bakery at the end of the hallway.
There’s..a bakery here?
She walked towards it and poked her head inside. No one was inside but she could hear the clanging and rattling of dishes and multiple voices talking over each other somewhere behind the cashier counter in the back left corner. Beneath the counter was a display case where a variety of desserts laid out, contrasting the neighboring desserts pleasingly. Polished wooden circular tables spread out evenly across the empty space, five chairs to each table. The lights were soft and the flower pots in the three corners were thriving. Soft music played from the speakers and a T.V was displaying the announcements.
Walking towards the display case, she breathed in the scents and smiled. She leaned down a little to look at each dessert, admiring the design done on every single one. They were so beautiful, so delicate, it almost made her not want to eat them. She bit her lip, torn between leaving and buying one. It wasn’t that they were expensive; they weren’t. She just didn’t know if she should get one.
“Hello! Can I get you something?” asked a bright, cheerful voice from somewhere in front of her.
She started and straightened up to see someone behind the counter, looking at her with a smile. They wore a white baker’s outfit and there were some flour imprints on their neck. They stood about 6’3” with a slender, muscular build with light caramel-colored skin. Their hair was mousy brown and stopped at their jawline. Their eyes were grass-green and sparkling with joy. Their face was finely-structured with a strong jawline and low cheekbones.
“O-oh, no I was just looking.” She looked at the display case again. “They’re all very prettily decorated.”
“Thanks! I’m very proud of the decorations of the on the cupcakes! I’m always proud of my decorations but I’m especially proud of these ones because they were hard for me to do for some reason? But the main thing is that I was able to do it and I did it pretty well!” they said happily. “Anyways, are you sure you don’t want anything?”
“Y-yes, I’m sure.”
“Okay. Come here if you want something. I swear, these pastries are very delicious. Wanna know which ones are especially delicious?” they asked.
“Which ones?”
They looked around as if to see if anyone was eavesdropping and leaned down to whisper into her ear.
“The ones I made.”
She laughed, and they pouted.
“It’s not funny. I’m very serious.”
She laughed again and their smile grew wide.
“I like your laugh. It’s really pretty.”
She stopped and blushed. They looked at her, and she avoided their eyes.
“I’m Jaimie,” they said holding their hand out.
“R-rook,” she said grabbing theirs and shook it.
“What are your pronouns if you don’t mind me asking?”
“O-oh, they depend on the day but I use he/him and she/her. And yours?”
“Xie/xyr/xem. It’s nice to meet you, Rook.”
“It was nice to meet you too.”
Xie smiled at her. She smiled back and waved before walking out.

Puppet Show: Fruit Fight
A little scene i wrote ******** "So someone explain to me, please, why you are all here in my apartment,” said Graye staring at Masami pointedly.  “Masami, care to explain?” “Why are you asking me?” they asked, arms wrapped around Elizaveta’s waist.  They looked at Graye with wide innocent eyes that ae knew were anything but. The others were spread out in the apartment: Edsel, of course, was sitting on the same sofa as Graye, much to aers annoyance; Tom was sitting at the dining table with his homework spread out; Itsuki was with him, helping with any questions he had; Nyka and Rox were in the kitchen looking for something to cook with. “Masami,” said Graye. “What?  We were already in the neighborhood!” “Ma-sa-mi.” “Why are you always getting mad at me?” “Because you always volunteer my apartment!” “You gave Itsuki and I permission and copies of your key when we repeatedly asked you in junior year!” Graye opened aers mouth, closed it, opened, and closed it.  Then ae sat back sulky with aers arms crossed.  Edsel smiled and patted aers head.  Ae slowly turned around and glared at him.  Edsel just kept on smiling and patting aer.  Masami guwaffed at their interactions, and Elizaveta sighed.  Itsuki, hearing Masami’s laughter, turned around and laughed as well.  Graye, hearing their laughter, turned around and glared at the two of them.   “Shut up, the two of you.” “What?” laughed Itsuki.  “We’re not even doing anything but laughing.” Graye grabbed a pillow and threw it at Itsuki, hitting vir directly in the chest and startling Tom.  Then ae grabbed another one and threw it at Masami, hitting them dead center on their chest.  They both coughed as the pillows hit them hard, and everyone stopped to stare at the three best friends. “Sometimes I wonder how the three of you became friends,” said Nyka, grabbing a bowl as Rox grabbed some fruits from the refrigerator. “Masami and Itsuki practically glued themselves around me.  By mid-junior year, teachers said we were inseparable,” said Graye. “Oh, come on,” said Masami as they threw the pillow back at aer.  “Don’t tell me you didn’t enjoy it.” “I loved it,” deadpanned Graye. Masami beamed and Itsuki shot a small smile at aer.  Graye rolled aers eyes with twitching lips.  They locked eyes with each other then they just suddenly burst into laughter, startling everyone. “Did we miss something?” Edsel asked. “You had to have been there to understand,” said Itsuki through virs laughter. “You two were so bad,” said Graye through aers laughter. “It wasn’t fair that the teachers trusted you more than they trusted us even though you’d just moved,” said Masami as their laughter died down. Graye shrugged.  “I was a good student who paid attention; you two didn’t really.” Pouting, Masami grabbed Elizaveta closer.  “So mean, Graye!” “It’s the truth. What did you expect?” “I was a good student!” “Anyways,” said Nyka before anyone else could talk.  She entered the living room with a large bowl of fruits and a salad tong in it.  Rox followed closely after with bowls and forks.  They set them on the coffee table and Graye noticed the cherries.  “Here you all go.  Fruit salad.” “I don’t remember having cherries,” ae said slowly. “That’s because we bought them on our way here.  We bought blueberries and raspberries too,” said Rox.   “Oh.”  Ae was silent for a minute.  “Are there still some left?” “Yes,” said Nyka, confused. Graye got up, making them all curious and confused.  Masami and Itsuki grinned at each other as they all began to serve themselves.  They glanced at Edsel, who noticed, with the exact mischievous smile.  He wondered what it was they were thinking about and saw Graye return with a handful of cherries with the stems still attached.  Ae dropped them into a bowl and started to scoop some fruit into aers bowl.   “So, you didnt answer my question,” said Graye as they all started to eat.  “Why here and not anywhere else.” “Because it’s in town unlike the rest of our places,” answered Masami.     Ae looked at them pointedly.       “What?  It is.”     “I am not the only one who lives in town.”     “Fine,” they said rolling their eyes.  “You’re the only one who lives in an apartment big enough for us all.”     “That’s a fucking lie!  Elizaveta and Edsel both live in apartments big enough for us all!”     “Yeah, but you live within equal distance within the agencies.”     “I do not and you know it!”     “Fiiine,” sighed Masami.  “We just enjoy annoying the hell out of you.”     Graye glared at them as everyone else watched them all, fascinated and at a lost.  Masami grinned at aer cheekily and ae sat back, crossing one leg over the other, arms crossed over aers chest.  Then ae grabbed a cherry from aers bowl and slipped the entire thing into aers mouth.  Masami and Itsuki grinned widely and Graye pouted.       “So cute!” Masami nearly squealed.     Graye flipped them off.  Masami sulked at aer and crossed their arms over their chest.       “I love you too, Masami.”     They pouted and Graye rolled aers eyes.  Then ae spat the seed and stem out and grabbed a napkin from the lamp table to put it on.       “Do you like cherries, Graye?” Edsel asked as ae grabbed another cherry and put the entire thing in aers mouth, stem and all.     “Yes, ae does, right, Graye?” Itsuki asked with a little smirk.     Ae rolled aers eyes and turned to Edsel.     “Among other things.”     “Ah.”     Edsel continued eating his fruit salad as everyone else talked about their cases.       “Why are we talking about work when we can talk about something else?” asked Nyka a bit bitterly.       “Aw, sorry, Nyka,” said Masami and pinched her cheeks.     Nyka’s cheeks turned red and Rox awed at the sight.       “Don’t you dare say a word, Rox, or I will throttle you.”     “I wasn’t going to say anything, I swear!”     “Right.”     “Who do you think will confess first between Rox and Nyka?” Edsel asked Graye in Scottish Gaelic.     Graye looked at him and shrugged.  “Nyka, probably.”     “Really?”     “Yep.”     “What makes you think that?”     “I don’t know.  Then again, Nyka isn’t sure of her feelings but Rox is.”     “How do you know that?”     Shit.  Graye frantically thought of a reason.  “J-just a guess.”     Edsel looked at aer curiously and said, “Okay.”     Then he looked at Rox, who was smiling really wide, and Nyka, who was sulking.     “By the way, who still owes you money?” he asked aer.     “That’s right.”  Graye grabbed two cherry seeds from the napkin and threw them at Masami and Itsuki’s face.     “Hey!”     “You two still owe me money.,” ae said in English.     “For what?” Masami asked, rubbing their face.     “That one thing, and Itsuki for another.”     “I told you I’d give it when I saved enough, didn’t I?” asked Itsuki.     “I was just reminding you.”  Then Graye turned to Edsel and said in Scots Gaelic, “I’ll split fifty-fifty with you when I get it.”     “Sounds good.”     Graye smiled at him and he just stared.  It was rare for him to get a smile from aer, so he engraved each and every one into his memory.  Suddenly, something wet and mushy hit his cheek and he immediately snapped out of it and looked to see Masami with their tongue sticking out.  Wiping it off, Edsel rolled his eyes and saw Graye stick another cherry into aers mouth.     “By the way, why do you put the entire cherry into your mouth?”     Graye looked at him before reaching for the lamp table and grabbing something.  Then ae turned towards him, a cherry stem hanging between aers thumb and index finger.  At first, Edsel was confused, and more confused when he heard Masami and Itsuki snickered, but then he saw it.  His eyes slightly widened and his mouth gaped open the slightest.  Graye had tied two knots on the stem.     Oh, shit.     “You look so surprised, Edsel,” said Graye putting the stem back.     “I, I just didn’t expect that.”     Itsuki and Masami burst out laughing and Edsel threw two pieces of fruit at them each.       “Hey!”     They both threw pieces of fruit at Edsel who threw fruit back at them.  In the process, he accidentally hit Nyka, who squeezed her eyes shut.  Then she reached into her bowl, grabbed a handful of fruit and threw them at Edsel.     “Nyka!” said Edsel.     “You threw fruit at me!”     “By accident!”     “I don’t care!”     Graye, Elizaveta, and Rox moved out of the way to where Tom was quietly eating his fruit salad at the dining table.  The other four continued to throw fruit, shouting at each other.     “You know,” he said after a moment.  “I was supposed to be doing homework and Itsuki was supposed to be helping me today.”     “We can help you,” said Elizaveta smiling.  Graye and Rox nodded with smiles.     “Thank you!” “Let’s get out of here, though.  Some kids are causing a ruckus,” said Rox. “Yes, let’s,” agreed Graye.  Ae grabbed aers jacket from the hooks next to the front door and slipped into aers shoes as the other three waited.  Then a piece of fruit hit aers face as another came aers way.  Ae paused and everyone froze.  Itsuki and Masami switched worried looks with each other.  Nyka was scared.  Edsel held his breath.  Ae slowly stood up and looked at the four people involved in the fruit fight.  Then ae smiled sweetly at them. “If you don’t clean my apartment by the time we come back, I’ll fucking murder you all,” ae said innocently and sweetly.  Then the smile disappeared and aers voice turned cold and hard.  “Now, start cleaning.” “Yes, Graye,” they chorused, their voices quivering. “Thank you,” ae said sweetly with a smile.  Graye turned to Rox, Elizaveta, and Tom.  “Shall we go?” “Yup,” said Rox as Tom and Elizaveta nodded. “I think the cafe is a good place to go to.  What do you all think?” asked Elizaveta as Graye opened the door. “Anywhere, so long as I can get my homework done,” said Tom walking out after xir.  “And get some questions answered because a certain someone acted like a child.” Rox and Graye switched looks. “Kids,” they said and walked out, slamming the door shut. Masami, Itsuki, Edsel, and Nyka all shared a look and looked around.   “Ae’s really going to kill us, won’t ae?” asked Edsel. Itsuki and Masami nodded.  The door suddenly opened and they all jumped. “Oh, I forgot to mention,” said Graye standing in the doorway.  “Don’t start anymore fights, kids. The parents are going out for work.” Then ae slammed the door shut.

Cardínal’s Rage
They stepped back as she stood up slowly, hands balled into tight fists. Sparks of black lightning shot off of her fists and wrapped around them like gloves. They glanced behind her to look at the guards who stopped at their warning look then returned to the sorceress before them.
She stood before them at her full height of 5’6” plus more with the heels. Her chubby body was a warm brown, contrasting beautifully with the gold-sparkling, bold red revealing dress she wore. Her face was a roundish heart-shape with a soft jawline, now tense with anger, and framed with a gold, sharp horn on each side. Her plump, red-stained lips were pressed in an angry line, and her brown eyes were burning with fury. Beneath her right eye was an X-shaped scar, lighter than her skin. Her hair was short and curly, coming to a point in the middle. Electricity shot off of the earrings adorning her earlobes, the left a gold star, the right a silver moon. Her arms were tense at her sides, quivering with the bubbling anger inside. One X-shaped scar was on her biceps, thicker and larger than the one beneath her eye. She wore a bold red, strapless dress, sheer from the bust line to the top of her waist with an elaborate gold design around the naval window. The skirt was asymmetrical, short as two inches from the hips on one side, long as the top of her thighs on the other. It was two-tiered, the top layer a red silk and the bottom layer a red sheer. Centered on the sweetheart neckline in the valley between her breasts settled a blood red garnet with sprinkles of small gold Swarovski crystals. A gold ring band gleamed on her right index and middle finger while another gleamed on her left pinky. Bright red painted her stiletto nails, appearing like blood-stained talons. Her feet were slipped in gold stiletto heels, red crystals adorning the ankle bracelets.
“If you lay a single finger on him, I will murder you,” she hissed out slowly and venomously. Electricity shot off from the tips of fingers as she unfurled her fists and relaxed her fingers.
“Our-”
“I do not care. If I ever find out that you sent someone after my baby brother, I will come after you and I will murder you all.”
She clenched her fist, and the person lurched forward, screaming, as jolt after jolt of electricity coursed through their body.
“Do you understand?” she demanded, enunciating each word and clenching her fist tighter thus increasing the power of the jolts.
“Y-yes, Cardínal.”

Seth’s Gentleness
They looked around the area, trying to find where he had gone. They could hear the others somewhere ahead, talking about something or other. Pausing, they let go of their senses, listening for his steady breathing and his gentle scent. Once they pinpointed it, they followed the trail, not caring if they didn’t tell the others. When they did find him, they stopped to stare at his beauty.
He sat cross-legged, surrounded by wild pansies, leaning down to sniff them. His body was slightly chubby with lightly sun-kissed skin. His face was roundish with high cheekbones and a soft jawline. His lips were a light pink, the upper lip slightly more fuller than his lower lip. His tawny brown hair was cut short around except for the front where it was long and messy and two short horns were located on either side. His eyes were a gentle, warm brown like milk chocolate and beneath his waterlines were cyan blue marks almost like eyeliner. More of the blue marks decorated his biceps, one circle each, and one cyan circle on the back of his neck. Frost-white scales scattered down his arms to his wrists, and his hands, which would usually have fingertips instead of talons, were brushing carefully against the wild pansies. Around his neck was a thin black chain necklace looped through the eyeholes of the dragon skull, and on its forehead was a cyan blue line. A white dragon tail decorated with cyan blue circles laid out behind him, and purple bat-like wings folded against his back. They couldn’t see it since he wore a loose white short-sleeved shirt and pants, but they knew there were scars on his cheeks and on the insides of his arms. They also knew that he didn’t like them, that they held a sad story behind them, but they thought the scars were beautiful. They thought the scars meant that he was stronger than whatever had happened to him, that he was a survivor.
“What are you doing there?”
He jerked back, the wings disappearing and the talons shifting to fingertips.
“Nothing.”
“What kind of flowers are those?”
He looked at them then at the flowers.
“They’re commonly known as wild pansies, but they’re called heartsease as well.” He looked at them. “Why aren’t you with the others?”
“Saw you weren’t around, so I thought I’d look for you.”
“Oh.”
“Mind if I join you, Seth?”

Luna’s Debut
The entire ballroom silenced the moment she stepped through the French doors. She walked with an elegance and gracefulness that no human could truly perfect, her steps hesitant but sure. The air around her radiated confidence and pride. People stopped to stare at her, to awe at her beauty.
She had a toned, slender body, and her skin was a smooth, dark chocolate tone, so cold but surely warm to the touch. Her face was squarish, strong and defined with low cheekbones and a sharp, angular jawline. She had a big nose, but it was the perfect size for her face. Her hair was shaved, and her deep, sapphire blue eyes twinkled with a gentleness and an honesty no one had seen in so long at such an event. Silver hoops glittered on her earlobes, and a silver hoop pierced through her septum, contrasting coolly against her cold chocolate skin. She wore a dark midnight blue dress, floor-length with a flowing skirt, sheer in some parts, covered with midnight blue sequins and silver sequins in others. It had a sweetheart neckline lined with silver jewels, and its sleeves were long to her wrists and sheer, covered with silver sequins in a spiral from her shoulder to her wrist. There was a slit on the side that stopped short at the top of her thigh, showing off her long, muscular leg. She wore midnight blue heels with ankle bracelets, adding a few inches to her 6’1”. Silver jewels adorned the bracelets, sparkling beneath the lights like her presence did amongst the humans.
Everyone’s eyes were trained on her as she moved through the crowd, quiet and tall. Suddenly a small hand reached out and gently pulled on her sleeve, causing her to look down. An adorable child with rosy pink cheeks in a soft green dress looked up at her, smiling shyly.
“You look really beautiful. What’s your name?” the child asked.
She smiled wide.
“I’m Luna.”
A little gift for Saraza.

Tha gaol agam ort
A little scene from a story.  This is a thing, Saraza, I don’t care.
Someone wrapped their arms around aers waist and spun around with aers back pulled close to their chest.  Shots fired and ae felt the body jerk back as bullets entered their back.  A curse slipped from their mouth as a soft gray filled aers vision.  Graye froze and felt warm breath near aers ear.
“So glad it was me and not you,” he whispered.
His arms slipped from aers waist, and he would have fallen if Graye hadn’t turned around and caught him.  Tears streamed down aers face as ae held him in aers arms.  Graye could feel the warm blood stain aers jeans and noticed that Carson had left.  No one was around for miles and no one had probably noticed they were missing.  Graye looked back at him.  His chest was barely moving and his breathing was slowing down.  His eyes were struggling to keep open, but worst of all he was wearing a smile.
“You fucking idiot,” ae hissed.
“Like I said, glad it was me and not you.”
Graye shook aers head furiously.
“No, no, no, no.  You shouldn’t have interfered!”
“Can’t let the person I love get killed in front of me, can I?”
Ae looked down and found him looking at aer with his cold obsidian eyes.  He lifted a hand up and wiped away a tear from aers face.
“You know, you really do look like an angel,” he whispered, voice cracking.
“Edsel. Edsel. Edsel! EDSEL!!”
Ae sighed as Paul left with a wave and looked down at the papers.  Another sigh escaped from aers mouth. One more look at the papers and ae decided to go visit Tom.  Graye pushed aerself away from the desk and hurried over, not caring about the strange looks ae was receiving.
Honestly, mind your own fucking business and leave me the fuck alone.
Familiar laughter drifted towards aer as ae neared the stairs and ae slowed down, recognizing it.  Graye stopped at the top of the stairs and looked down, heart beating fast and a strange emotion coursing through aer.
“Edsel.”
___
He heard someone whisper his name in the midst of all the talking and looked immediately towards the stairs.  Graye stood there, eyes wide and lips slightly apart.  Edsel could hear aers heart beat fast.  He inwardly flinched, knowing he worried Graye.  Moving forward, he kept his eyes on aer but ae ran away as he took another step.
“Dammit,” he breathed and ran.
“Go, Edsel, go!” he heard Tom cheer and, without looking back, waved in thanks.
Running up the stairs, Edsel dodged the people who were coming down and
ignored the people who trying to stop him to welcome him back or something.  He needed to see Graye and he needed to see aer now.
His first stop was aers room, but ae was gone.  Edsel growled in frustration and backed out of it, looking right and left.  He caught sight of a paper crane on the corner of aers desk and he remembered something.
Taking the stairs up by two, he pushed himself to go faster.  The thought of seeing Graye was all the motivation he needed and would only be one of the few things to motivate him.  The minute he reached the top of the shelter he stopped and looked around.  Edsel’s heart pinched as he strode over.
Graye was sitting on the floor with aers knees up to aers chest, chin resting on top and head down. Aers arms was wrapped around aers knees and ae wore aers hood up, covering aers face.  The tips of aers hair peeked out and Edsel could see aers back trembling.  His heart pinched as he reached Graye and sat down criss-crossed before aer.
“Graye,” he said gently.
“Go away, Edsel.”
“Graye, please.”
“I said go away!”
Ae lifted aers head and Edsel’s eyes widened slightly.  Graye’s eyes were red and puffy, and aers face was streaked with black eyeliner.
“Oh, Graye,” Edsel whispered.
“Go away Edsel!”
“I can’t do that.”
“You’re the most stubborn, stupid fool I’ve ever met!  Why can’t you just leave me alone when I tell you to?  I told you to leave me alone that night!  Why didn’t you?!  I told you before, that if I ever told you to do something it was for your own benefit!  Do you have a hard time listening to what people tell you to do?  Because you seemed to have a hard time listening to what I tell you but you don’t seem to have that problem with other people!  Why is it just me, Edsel?  Why?  You told me that you wouldn’t be able to stand watching the person you love get killed in front of you.  How do you think I felt when I saw you get injured while protecting me?  How do you think I felt when the person I love took the bullets that were meant for me?!”
Graye breathed heavily and froze as ae realized what ae had said.  Edsel was still registering what ae had said and when he got his mind wrapped around it, a smile slipped onto his face.  He reached out, grabbed Graye’s arms, and pulled aer to him.  Ae let out an adorable cry of surprise, and Edsel buried his face into the crook of aers neck.  He inhaled aers scent, a calming scent of cold earth and cool rain.
“E-edsel, let go,” Graye said, struggling against him.
“You’ve no idea how happy that makes me, Graye,” he whispered into aers neck.  Graye froze.  “I love you too.”
“I-idiot. Who said I loved you?”
Edsel lifted his head up and looked at aer with a lazy smile.  “You did just a few minutes ago.”
Graye’s mouth opened, but nothing came out.  Edsel smiled as ae closed aers mouth and sulked adorably.
“U-um, don’t you think our position is….?”
Edsel chuckled as Graye’s cheeks pinkened.  Ae was straddling him, aers legs bent outwards on either side of aer.
“You’re really innocent, Graye.”
“Sh-shut up Edsel!  You’re an idiot.  An idiot-”
“Tha gaol agam ort, Graye.” (I love you)
Ae froze and looked at him, eyes wide.  He smiled at aer, and the light in his eyes were so soft, so gentle.  The gray ae saw was also the same.  So soft, so gentle, so loving.  Graye looked at him, hesitating on whether ae trusted him enough.
“Tha gaol agam ort-fhèin.” ( I love you too.)
Edsel’s eyes widened as Graye’s cheeks dusted with dark pink.  He grinned widely and pulled aers head down slowly and gently.  Their lips met, a gentle peck.  Then Edsel licked at the seam and Graye opened aers mouth.  He slipped his tongue inside and savored aers sweet taste.  Edsel pulled aer closer until there was no more space and Graye twined aers fingers into his hair.  A mewl escaped from Graye and Edsel pulled back, groaning.  He looked at Graye and wanted to kill himself.  Aers lips were swollen and rosy and aers gray blue eyes were glazed over.
“You’re going to be the death of me, I swear.”

I feel like a block of clay.
I feel so empty, so lifeless.
I feel nothing.
No, wait, I feel sadness.
But only for small things.
I feel like I mold myself
Around others to be liked and
If I’m not then I do the wrong things.
I can’t tell if my emotions are real or not,
If they are just an illusion so I can get through
The day.
I can’t tell if I really like what I say I like,
If I really hate what I say I hate.
I can’t tell if my friends really like me,
If they get sick and tired of me.
There’s too many things I doubt myself in,
So many things I need someone to make sure I’m doing it
Right.
I don’t trust myself.  I feel so mechanical.
I feel so fucking hollow.
My head hurts…
Until next time….

Jesse meets Brentley: Part IV: Confessions
After the cafe date, the two of them hung out more.  Brentley enjoyed listening to Jesse talk about zir passions and he even let zem listen to his music and see a couple of his drawings.  As they spent more time together, something inside Brentley was growing.  He didn’t know what, but he knew it was something that only happened around Jesse.  Pushing it to the back of his mind, he continued to hang out with zem.  Of course, Brentley was oblivious to Jesse’s quick glances and hopeful stares while his friends immediately caught on.  They pitied Jesse for having an interest in such an oblivious person, but they knew their friend would catch on sooner or later- most likely later, if Jesse didn’t do something about it.
Fortunately for them all, it happened sooner.  Unfortunately….
Well, it started when Jesse brought Brentley to zir lab.  From his perch on a high stool, he watched zem do zir work, watched zir brows furrow in concentration as zey looked at data and took notes.  It was fascinating to watch someone do work they were passionate about.  Unconsciously, a smile grew on Brentley’s face and he started to hum.
It wasn’t until someone, a fellow classmate of Jesse’s, appeared that Brentley started to feel...something.  He didn’t like the way the classmate looked at Jesse as zey explained a question they had trouble with.  No, he didn’t like it one bit.  His dislike for the classmate grew when they winked and stuck out their tongue at him before leaving.
Jesse turned around to look at Brentley to find him fuming.
“Is there something wrong?”
“Nothing,” he said before jumping off the stool and walked away, leaving behind a confused Jesse.
***
I’m so stupid.
Brentley bumped his head against the tabletop and groaned.  He’d been avoiding Jesse for a week since zey’d taken him to the lab and realized something.
He had a crush on Jesse.
A groan escaped his mouth when he thought about it.  It wasn’t that he couldn’t believe it.  Well, it was, but it was more of the fact that he couldn’t believe he had a crush on someone who would never reciprocate his feelings.  Because really, who would ever love someone as ugly as he was?  Another groan escaped from his mouth as he bumped his forehead against the table’s wooden surface.  Sketches of random things crinkled beneath his forehead.
Dammit.
“Brentley?”
His breathing slowly stopped as his heartbeat became faster.  All of a sudden, there were butterflies in his stomach and his hands were shaking.  Slowly, Brentley lifted his head slightly off the table while turning to his right to find Jesse with zir messenger bag hung around a shoulder.
“I was right, it was you,” zey breathed out smiling.
“Um, hi Jesse.”
“Hello.  I’ve been trying to catch you all week.”
“Oh, sorry, I’ve been busy.”
“It’s fine.”  Jesse pulled off zir messenger bag and sat in the chair across from him.  “The reason why I was looking for you all week was because I wanted to talk about what happened in the lab.”
“Nothing happened,” he mumbled.
“Something must have since you walked out of there fast.”
Suddenly the way the classmate looked at Jesse popped into Brentley’s mind and he said, “I really am stupid.”
“What are you talking about? You aren’t-”
Brentley raised himself off the chair a little bit and leaned over so his face was just inches away from zir own.  For a split second, their eyes locked and Brentley closed the last few inches of space between them.  He settled his lips on top of Jesse’s and pulled back after a few seconds, his cheeks pink.
“Ah, wh-”
“I like you Jesse.”
It seemed an eternity as the words registered in zir mind.  “I like you Jesse.”  A smile bloomed onto zir face as zey said, “I like you too Brentley.”
“No, I mean-”
Jesse leaned over and placed zir lips on Brentley’s gently.  Zey pulled away just the slightest to see Brentley’s cheeks pinken more.
“I know exactly what you mean.”

Jessé meets Brentley: Part III: The First Date
“What?” asked Brentley, confused.  Here was a stranger- well, not exactly a stranger, like a first-time stranger, but a stranger nonetheless- who just suddenly came up and asked for his name.
“Ah, forgive me for not introducing myself.  My name’s Jesse,” they said.
“Oh, well, my name’s Brentley.”  He hesitated on his next question.  “Um, don’t mind me asking, but what are your pronouns?”
Jesse’s face blew into a smile and they slid into the chair straight across from him.
“My pronouns are zey/zir/zem.  What are yours?”
“He/him/his.”
Then zey turned to look at Evan and Richie.
“And what are your names and pronouns?”
“Oh, I’m Evan and my pronouns are the same as Brentley’s.”
“And I’m Richie and my pronouns are the same as theirs,” said Richie.
“Oh,” said Jesse.  “Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you beautiful people.”
“Thank you!” beamed Evan.  “It was nice to meet you too.”
Richie nodded and Brentley looked at zem, his head tilted to the side curiously.
“So, what exactly did you come here for?” he asked.
“Oh, I just wanted to ask if you wanted to go for a cup of coffee tomorrow or anytime you’re free.”
“Why-?”
“Brentley’s free tomorrow!” said Evan excitedly.  “He can meet you at the university cafe at eleven tomorrow.”
“Wait, Evan!”
“What?  It’s not like you’re doing anything tomorrow and you need to go out more.”
“B-but-”
“But what?  You only have one class tomorrow, so it should be alright.”  Evan turned to Jesse and said, “You can keep him for as long as you want.  Just don’t do anything we wouldn’t do.”
“Oh, don’t worry.  I planned on keeping him with me all day whether you allowed me to or not,” said Jesse with a wink towards Brentley.
He flustered and mumbled to himself about something.  Jesse watched him with a wide smile on zir face, bubbling with anticipation.
***
Brentley entered the cafe and glanced around the place.  He took another step in and craned his neck this way and that to find zem but he couldn’t.  Just as he was about to back out, an arm slipped around his shoulders and fine, dark brown hair tickled his cheek.
“Morning Brentley,” greeted zir deep, calming voice.
Brentley tilted his head slightly back and looked into zir dark brown eyes.  “Hello.”
“Shall we?”
He nodded and Jesse grabbed hold of his hand and led him to a table in the corner.
“How are you today, Brentley?” zey asked as they took their seats, Brentley taking the seat across from zem.  A waitress stopped by and asked for their orders before he could answer.  Jesse ordered a mint hot chocolate while Brentley ordered a cafe-au-lait.
“I’m fine, you?” he asked once the waitress had left.
“I was having an okay day; it’s better now that I’m with you.”
Brentley’s cheeks pinkened just the slightest and quickly glanced outside the window, his elbow propped onto the table and his hand covering his mouth.  Jesse grinned and decided to use this chance to study him closely.
His black hair was loosely tied into a bun, held in place with a black hairpin.  His eyes, a beautiful brown with flecks of liquid gold, sparkled behind the glasses he wore.  The piercings- he had multiple, but Jesse thought they fit him- glinted underneath the fluorescent lights.  He had a slender, muscular build and shorter than zem by four inches.  His skin was sun-kissed and smooth.  Jesse’s eyes slowly slid down to his lips and wondered how they would feel against zir own.  They were full and rosy pink and looked so kissable.
“What are you looking at, Jesse?”
His voice broke through zir thoughts and Jesse said, “Nothing really.”
“Were you thinking about something?”
“Just you.”
Brentley blushed just as the waitress returned with their drinks.  They thanked her and she flashed them a smile.  Before she left, she said, “I’m sorry, but you two are an adorable couple.”
Brentley’s blushed deepened as Jesse beamed, “Thanks!”
She smiled back widely and left.  Jesse turned to look at Brentley who was still blushing.
“So cute,” zey sighed and Brentley’s blush turned red.
“Sh-shut up,” he mumbled.
“Never.”
Jesse’s face blew up into a smile and Brentley took a sip of his drink while turning towards the window.
“So, what are you majoring in, Brentley?”
“Oh, um, I’m double majoring in music and art.  I’m minoring in Japanese literature.  What about you?”
“I’m majoring in aquatic biology and I have a minor in French.”
“Aquatic biology?  That sounds very interesting.  Can you tell me about it?”
Jesse’s eyes lit up with a spark, which was speedily extinguished, nearly as fast as it had been ignited.
“Oh… you probably don’t really want to hear,” zey murmured, “no one asks, I know it must be tiresome...”
But Brentley merely shook his head.
“No, really, I’d like to know.”
“Ah, well…” Jesse began shakily, “...i-it’s a lot of studying ecosystems… everything in them… oh, and of course studying marine life… oh, there’s aquaponics, too!” Zey gained traction as zey spoke, voice strengthening with excitement, “Which is a cool thing where you specially grow plants and fish at the same time in the same tank and there’s virtually no waste- it’s super eco-friendly!  Heh, but that’s not really why I got into it...”
“Why did you?” Brentley prompted them, interestedly. “Oh, for me… I just… I love the creatures…” Zir voice was soft and steady now, and zir eyes were clouded over with distant thoughts. “I want to see ecosystems and their inhabitants heal and flourish, I want to see the animals happy, healthy… I want to help any way I can.” Zey braided zir fingers together, holding zir hands clasped tight. “So many bad things have happened to our planet, so much hurt has been caused… I know it’s a bit foolish to think I can really make a difference, but…” Zey raised zir head and the distant look was gone, and zey were beaming. “It can’t hurt to just try, right?”
Brentley smiled and said, “No, it can’t.  It absolutely can’t hurt.”
Quick note: Saraza wrote the part about the marine bio since I thought it’d be better if someone who knew wrote it and this was during school too.  I believe zey wrote from “I’m majoring in marine biology and I have a minor in French,” to the end.  Zey can correct me if I’m wrong.

Jessé meets Brentley: Part II: The Second Fated Meeting
Amber brown eyes looking into zir own chocolate brown eyes suddenly appeared into zir mind.
Ever since that meeting, zey had been looking around for that beautiful person.  Jessé asked everyone zey knew for their identity, but no one knew and it was starting to irritate zem.  It was like an itch zey couldn’t get rid of.  Zey really wanted to know their name.  Jessé sighed and looked around the campus grounds.  Other than asking around, zey had also been looking around the grounds and waiting by the corner, trying to catch a glimpse of their face.  So far, nothing.  Absolutely nothing.
Another sigh escaped from zir mouth and zey jumped off from zir perch on the four-foot brick wall.  Jessé couldn’t concentrate, at least not while zey kept thinking about the person.  Zey started to wander around aimlessly keeping an eye out for them.  Whenever zey saw someone with long black hair zey thought it was them.  Then they would turn around and Jessé would be disappointed when it wasn’t.
This is ridiculous of me, zey thought closing zir eyes.  But anything to know the beauty’s name.  I can still hear their soft voice.
“You and Marcus are so in love with each other, I think I might throw up around you guys,” said the light voice.
Jessé smiled at the voice and heard another voice say, “Jealous Brentley?”
Zir eyes snapped open as the gentle voice deadpanned, “Yes, very much so.”
Zey started to look around frantically in the dining hall- how had zey gotten into here, zey wondered- and saw them.  They were sitting at a table with two other people, one of them wearing a cute red dress and the other wearing paint-splattered clothes.  Jessé headed towards them, capturing the attention of the one wearing the dress.
“Hello,” they said in a chirpy voice.  The other one and the beauty both turned their heads around to see zem.
“Hello,” Jessé greeted as the beauty’s eyes widened in recognition.
“Ah,” they said. “What are you doing here?”
“I never got your name.”

Jessé meets Brentley: Part I:The Fated Meeting
It was like any other day.
Jessé was walking back to the lab after grabbing a bite of lunch, and, like always, zey had zir head in zir notes making sure zey had jotted down everything.  The first bell rung, so zey had to hurry.  Jessé was careful to not bump into anyone as zey navigated zir way through the sea of students.  It was only when zey went around the corner that zey bumped into someone.
Zir papers flew out of zir hands, scattering around zir feet,  as zey heard a couple of books thud to the floor and more papers scattered.  The other person cursed in a feather-soft voice.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Jessé apologized as zey bent down to gather the papers up.
“No, it’s my own fault.  I wasn’t watching where I was going,” said the feather-soft voice again.
The other person was on their knees, gathering their papers and books and was looking around.  Jessé grabbed the book that was closest to zem and held it out, clearing zir throat.
“Huh?  Oh, thanks a lot,” they said, looking up.
Jessé stared in awe at them.  Their hair was black and long, reaching their butt, and tied into a loose ponytail.  Their bangs obscured their beautiful amber brown eyes.  Their face was delicately structured and their lips were full and kissable.  Black glasses rested on the bridge of their nose and their multiple piercings glinted underneath the lights.
The warning bell rang, snapping Jessé out from zir observation, and the person looked at their phone.
“Oh, fuck,” they said standing up.  They shot a friendly, thankful smile at zem saying thanks before hurrying away.
Shit.
A little somethin’ for my friend saraza with zir oc and mine.

Stars
Blink, blink.  Blink, blink.  Blink, blink.  Blink, blink. Blink, blink.
In the blue black sky, the stars hold stories.
Tales of sorrow, love, and friendship, they will tell.
But they don’t talk; rather they can’t.
Blink, blink.  Blink, blink.  Blink, blink. Blink, blink.
The silver twinkles against the dark silk as they speak.
Their language is something I cannot understand.
Many times before, I thought briefly, I could.
Blink, blink. Blink, blink.  Blink, blink.
One can only guess what they are trying to say.
It’s the imagination, the feelings received.
Nothing is wrong or right.
Blink, blink.  Blink, blink.
Hook me in with your secrets and stories from long ago.
You have seen all, seen everything.
Tell me or will you let me guess?
Blink, blink.
dedicated to my friend, saraza’s, two ocs, Star and Fleur.  This is an edited version of a poem I wrote last year before I even knew about the two.

The Sleeping Kingdom
There once was a princess and her knight. They were very much in love, and everyone could see it. But one wouldn't let them have it. So secretly, while the knight went out on the orders of the king, they cast a spell on the kingdom. The princess fell victim first...and then the king....and then the queen...and soon everyone else....all but the knight.
1
Once upon a time, in another world, there was a small kingdom.  In that kingdom there lived two childhood friends: the youngest daughter and princess and the youngest ever to be knighted.  Two people from two different worlds but when together, inseparable.  Whenever their parents, who were also childhood friends, were together, they, along with the princess’s older siblings, and their friends teased the two about it when they could.  Even when they were older in their mid-teens, they continued to tease them.
But it was no longer two friends who didn’t want to be apart, oh no.  Somewhere along the way, the feelings of friendship had transformed into something different, something deeper, something more…intimate.  Unfortunately, they kept their feelings from each other in fear of rejection and started to distant themselves.  Their parents, her older siblings, their friends, and the servants noticed and started to worry.  It didn’t feel right, not seeing them together every day, so they all made attempts to bring them back together.  However, no matter what they did, the two would always ignore each other.
It went for months until the king made an announcement about a masquerade ball that would take place in a fortnight. The entire kingdom bustled around, for every, rich and poor, noble and peasant, was invited to the magical night.
And when the night came, everyone danced with each other.  All except for the princess.  She sat on the sides, watching them all dance happily beneath the glass chandeliers. Then, out of nowhere, someone came up to her and asked her to dance.  She agreed with slight hesitation and they danced and danced and danced the entire night.  As they danced, there were whispers of how graceful and elegant the couple was, and of how beautiful they looked together.  The princess and her partner exchanged smiles, secret glances, and blushes.
As the night came to an end, the couple went for a stroll in the moonlit garden.  They talked of various topics but mostly about themselves and their hopes and dreams.  It was when they stopped in front of an old oak tree that the princess wondered if the knight was enjoying themself.  She touched the tree trunk and heard the voice she yearned to hear in the past months. They whispered the three magic words and she cried in joy.  She too whispered the three words and they smiled widely at her.  It was there underneath the oak tree they shared their first kiss.
With fear and hope, they went up to their parents and revealed their current relationship the next day.  Their mothers hugged them and their fathers smiled at them. The princess and the knight hugged their mothers back and smiled back at their father.  By the end of the day, more than half the kingdom knew about their relationship and by noon the next day everyone knew.  Anyone and everyone who saw them congratulated them with either joy or distaste in their voices.  But they didn’t care.  They were together now and that was all that mattered.
Months after, the king sent the knight on a mission in another country.  Before they left the princess made the knight promise to be careful and not to get seriously injured.  And the knight promised on their name to come back unharmed so they could protect her with all their power.
It wasn’t until a few days before the knight’s due arrival that the event that would change their life happened.  For on their return, there no king or queen or parents to welcome them or a princess to hug and kiss.  There was no one- awake that is.  The knight searched everywhere in the kingdom, but everyone had fallen asleep in the middle of whatever they were doing.  And no matter how hard they tried to wake each person up, they would not. Then they searched inside the castle, first with the king who had fallen asleep at his desk in the study, second with the queen who had fallen asleep in the parlor room while sewing and finally, with their beloved princess who was peacefully asleep on her bed.
They dedicated their entire life into defending the kingdom from bandits and raiders who chanced upon the area and finding an answer to reverse whatever had caused the situation.  But they were only human and humans live short lives.
Slowly, very slowly, throughout the years, the castle become overgrown with moss and vines and it soon became nothing more but a story.  A fairytale.
But it will all change very soon.  All the fairytales in the netherlibrary, all the libraries that have built upon each other, it will all be discovered because there have been changes. Oh, these are small changes like a child being born and a new fairytale being written, but these are the first steps taken in many years.
There will be many more to come for it’s a long journey to the truth.  And there will be people willing to do anything to not let the truth come out. And all fairytales will end happy...

Aranea
In the shadows, a spider starts spinning its web. It spins and spins creating its home, its trap. A trap, for each thread is a lie connecting and overlapping. And each lie spun is the start of something dangerous. Because after all a spider is the symbol of lies.
Yet as the spider spins its lies, it also weaves a tale. It weaves a tale of strength, treasure, war, and love, A tale built of fairytales, masquerade balls, magic, and deception. And so the spider weaves, leaving behind delicate truths and fragile hope. For what is a tale without a couple mysteries scattered about?
Far too much time has passed, far too many chances have gone. No one has solved the mysteries for no one has found them. The lies have gotten too deep, and the stories have changed too much. The truths have been buried underneath the piling falsehoods. But fortunately the spider has a secret trick.
Aces are the protectors, the leaders, Diamonds are the jewels, the treasures. Clubs are the soldiers, the warriors. Hearts are the souls, the emotions. And the jokers are the truths, the mysteries.
In total there are eight plus two more. The plus two are secrets that only the spider knows, And only the spider will ever know about them. At least until the web is done, until the tale is nearing its end. For when all is done, the lies and the true tales will be exposed.
Summary for my story, Masquerade (probably change the title later), in poem form.
