But it all started with my artist book, “Nixie and the Blue Eggs” (available on my Etsy, link on linktree) During my final semester in college, I had an idea for a character - Nixie - and knew I needed to make her more “artsie” if I wanted to draw her for my art class. So, when I stumbled across a photo of robin’s eggs, I painted Nixie holding them. My professor loved it, so I continued to create paintings of Nixie and the blue eggs. Keeping it real.. I wanted to post a well thought out post today. But today ended up being rough emotionally. I’m fine, technically, but I have my ups and downs, with or without anxiety getting involved. I do my best to post uplifting, fun, and hopeful content. But I want you to know that it’s coming from someone who has been utterly broken and is on the slow path toward healing. I don’t post cute cat pictures and funny things out of an ignorance of pain, but out of that pain and the desire to help you all smile, laugh, and escape for just a moment. What comes to mind when you think of love? Valentine’s Day is this weekend, but right now instead of romantic love, I’m thinking of unconditional love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And Fruits Basket is my favorite fictional example of unconditional love. Tohru consistently seeks to understand others and show kindness to everyone around her. It doesn’t matter how weird or gruff they may seem, she loves on them. And, more often than not, they eventually end up befriending her. It warms my heart. ❤️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tohru isn’t perfect, but she is 100% dedicated to loving those she finds in her life, in spite of their flaws. I’d like to be more like her, wouldn’t you? In my opinion, she’s the best part of Fruits Basket. So, when I painted stickers of all the zodiac characters, I included Tohru as the rice ball 🍙. What places bring you comfort? Make you feel safe and content? I created one here for my story. I have this lovely idea of an old Irish pub filled with kind patrons and soft lighting. Hello there! After stressing forever about what to say, I’m finally posting one of my business portraits taken by the amazing @morganpotterphoto. This is me on my best days, all done up and professional and feeling it 🤩 But most days are not like that. Some days, like a few I’ve had lately, are discouraging and riddled with anxiety and hopelessness. Which brings me back to the *business* in the portrait. Hello there... Who’s this handsome guy? 🤔 May I introduce you to Trent, my main character’s twin brother. He loves making and welding things. When he’s not working, he enjoys teasing his sister and playing tag on their hydro-scooters after curfew. He’s been my sneaky character, the one who I didn’t know well when I wrote the first draft of my book. The characters are from Star Wars Rebels, the show that gave me something to look forward to each night as I moved to a new home during the pandemic. How’s your new year going so far? I’ve had some rocky years in the past five years, but I’m excited about this one. Not that it won’t have some crazy times. It probably will.
