Truly the all time funniest writer thing is when you're doing edits and you think to yourself "omg I've got the PERFeCT sentence to add right here!" and then you stick it in all excited, only to find that literally three lines down you have virtually that exact same sentence in the draft already.

The Frugal Wizards Handbook for Surviving Medievil England - Book Review
The Frugal Wizards Handbook for Surviving Medievil England - Book Review
I’ve always liked Brandon Sanderson. So I picked up a copy of this at my book store before I went away. I enjoyed it a lot.
It’s a good mix of Scifi action, and fantasy. The main character travels to an alternate dimension set in medievil times… but also with magic. On arriving, he immediately loses his memory, with the only thing on him to help a (partially exploded) copy of the frugal wizards…

Updates on my Social Media Accounts
New blog post. Some info on my social media accounts if you want to follow me other places. :)
Hi everyone!
I’ve been mucking around a bit trying to work out my social media accounts. Or, more accurately, trying to find places where I get engagement, enjoy posting, and don’t get flogged by the whims of the algorithms.
Current social media accounts are as follows:
Instagram – look its annoying me, but I do seem to be getting some traction
New ones I’m trying out:
Tumblr – I’ve had just…

I've got two that I'm developing for my current story that are sort of linked. One from a few hundred years back, the other just a decade ago .
The far back one is very much set in legend - the founder of a town who fought off all the wild animals/monsters and made the area safe to live in - but was rumoured to do so by shapeshifting into a monster.
Then there's the more recent one surrounding one of his decendants who also has a role protecting the town but in a more modern sheriff sort of capacity. Ten years ago he killed a large animal that threatened the town and killed a couple people... and the media blew it out of proportion. So now he's got a statue in the town, has boosted tourism to the town, and is well known outside of the town as well.
It's fun to play with it in that setting as he's a little uncomfortable about the stories being not so much true (and the fact he's hiding somw things surrounding the event), and actually enjoying the attention. And of course whilst he at first just shrugs and goes along with it he becomes more invested in it as time goes on and more determined to keep his ‘reputation’ intact.
I’m still very much figuring out the details but I’m looking forward to playing with both of these!
Writing Legend and Folklore
Unlike mythology, legends are more rooted in historical events and may even have recorded, proven details. Your legend will likely feature real humans as characters experiencing something that happened in a real place in your world. The fun things about legends is that often the truth of the past has been twisted and changed over time. While it’s important for you as the writer to know the absolute truth about your history, your characters may never learn the truth behind the legend, or may trade slightly different alternate stories.
Legends reflect the values or fears of a society. Much of Folklore comes from parents intending to shield their children from danger—whether going out at night and getting snatched by the boogeyman, or wandering too close to the rapids and being dragged in by a dangerous Kelpie. So start with a real value or danger, and begin to embellish.
Maybe in your world society really values compassion. A tale may start out with someone hoarding resources and ignoring those in need which then manifests a shadow monster that gobbles both them and their riches right up! Name the monster, and you have a campfire-worthy folk tale for your characters to tell late into the night.
Or, if your legend has no moral or lesson, it may feature something unexplainable that happened to real people. Stories you hear of disappearing cities or villages come from this place—people witnessing something or experiencing something they can’t explain, and creating a story to explain it anyway.
The original teller of this story, or the original source, should be difficult if not impossible to track down, to make sure it remains shrouded in mystery.
Does your world feature any legends or folktales? Let me know!

Book Review - Stephen King On Writing
Just finished reading this. I’m not usually a big fan of autobiographies (or biographies) but this was pretty much half writing advice. Plus, I got it for Christmas from my mum. 🙂 My biggest take away was that you have to write heaps, and you have to read heaps. I’ve been doing okay with the writing. But for the last few months I do kind of feel like I’ve had ‘readers block’ and I haven’t read a…

Deep Water Prompt #3042
The sun goes down all at once here, once a year and with no warning. Better pray you aren’t on a ship when it happens, trapped in the sea that freezes as our long, dark winter sets in.
