This is going to be a list of some of my favorite male voice actors. Including everything from deep to higher-pitched voices and from the protagonist, to villain to supporting characters. These are the voices that I most of the time can recognize by ear right away or make me go "I know this voice".

Starting off with a cute scene where Subaru's reading a cat magazine chilling on the floor next to Haru that's taking a nap and eventually, he falls asleep. In his dream we go back to the time when Subaru was a kid, it's bedtime and he's sleeping with his parents telling them about a book he memorized, The Moon and the Sun. After that, we see when Hiroto and his family move into the neighborhood. Then there's a skip to his college days when he's beginning to write a book and his parents found out. We see his growth as a writer from writing on his own to winning a novel competition to having his volume be published for the first time... Read More

He wakes up to Hiroto making a mess out of the house after falling from trying to not step on Haru's tail. To Subaru's surprise, Hiroto has brought The Sun and the Moon 2 that he wrote as a kid and Hiroto had apparently borrowed it for his siblings in high school. Hiroto talks about how Subaru becomes brain-dead whenever he's reading books. Like when they were kids and he fell into a river whilst reading and walking at the same time. Soon after that Subaru collapses from a cold.

I don't understand how you can catch a cold that makes you collapse from a quick nap on the floor. Subaru should really get a health check-up. Kawase arrives and turns into a mom. Together, Hiroto and Kawase nurse Subaru. As Hiroto and Kawase are wreaking havoc in the kitchen Haru gets onto Subaru's chest where she falls asleep with the thought "Why is it that just being beside you makes me feel so many different things? ... but it's not bad". Such an adorable scene.

Black Clover Episode 72 (Episode Review)

[SPOILER ALERT]

Asta is struggling, his strength won't help him in this situation. Being a musclehead doesn't help since his brain is basically getting fried from thinking too hard. He comes up with the idea of trying to activate the half-demon mode he was able to transform into when they were in the Witches' forest. He tries to come up with a way to transform going from just shouting "transformation" to jumping into the lava... Read more

So that was the training arc, two episodes where we learn more about Mereoleona, Noelle learns about her mother and Asta taking a step closer to mastering his new power. The training that rather than being physical training is more about knowing yourself. Quite a short arc with the hot spring trope, but what comes up next is the Royal Knights exam.

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken Episode 21 (Episode Review)

Saving Shizu-san's students

We have the students Kenya, Ryota, Gale, Alice, and Chloe. Starting with a very unenthusiastic roll call with no answers, Rimaru puts them in place using Ranga. He starts off with a test that is received with reluctance at first. A game where they let can let out frustrations, one-on-one battle against Rimaru, and 10 min time limit. Rimaru did this with the intent to burn off the excess magicule energy. All of them lose and the energy hasn't been reduced. It is stated that "The energy fused with them cannot be separated from them". Something weird is the impression Rimaru gets from Chloe... Read more

Rimaru visits Treyni, with the idea of having superior spirits to inhibit their bodies like Shizu. They can be found in the Dwelling of the Spirits ruled by the Queen of Spirits, there are several entrances. Treyni no longer has any connection to the current queen of Spirits thus no entrance... Read more

Similar to the last episode, there is not much happening but rather just some build up and switching of locations. We get to see the students abilities. Rimaru is trying to figure out ways to save the children and he found a merchant to handle the handling of goods for the city.

Shirogane wants to work

The guy who previously asked Shirogane is back at it again. This time, after a month of dating he is here to ask how he should hold her hand. Shirogane gets excited as the bar is set low and the advice needed is within his experience. So he ends up proposes an extravagant date. But with the budget of a student, he doesn't have the money to get a boat license and rent a boat. Shirogane's hidden agenda shows, he's trying to recruit him as a part-timer for the summer... Kaguya wants him to join

Ishigami earns himself an ass beating when he states that archery fits Shinomiya because of her flat-chestedness and that Fujiwara would have it more difficult because of the big size of hers. After a bunch of whacks from Fujiwara, Ishigami heads home with a will to die and Shirogane is fought over to enter either club to get a bigger budget or for Shinomiya to spend time with him. Shirogane wins with the feeling of a harem fighting over him. Probably my favorite scene so far. Despite being anti-social he seems to be able to bluntly say anything without a filter. Things still lead him to want to go home wanting to die anyway though.

5. Gintama

Gintama is more of a parody and most of the time has a comedic tone to it but that's not all there is to it. Although a bit more rare there are action scenes and when they happen they go all out. Gintoki, known as Shiroyasha (white demon) during the times of war and Kaguya from the Yato clan, known for being the strongest fighters along with many other characters make up some intense fighting scenes. Here there is a backstory related to war and historical figures and groups with a twist like the Shinsengumi, Kondo, Hijikata, and Okita.

4. Arslan Senki

A bit more lighthearted strategic war anime, compared to the ones after number this, about the royals of the kingdom. Taking place in year 320, Arslan the young prince of the kingdom of Pars with general Daryun by his side is chased out of the capital Ectabana, after the king is betrayed by his trusted subordinates. Arslan goes on a journey to overcome the obstacles that will prepare him to be the next king. Arslan has to enter battles and prove his valor before he can take back Ectabana and succeed the overthrown throne.

3. Youjo Senki

Out of all of these, Youjo Senki is the series that has little to no comedic relief moments in between important scenes. With a more serious tone, the show focuses more on the more intense strategic military theme. Tanya was a middle-aged in Japan was killed by being pushed in front of a train, then challenged Being X and was reborn as a girl into a kingdom that is known as the Empire. A world that looks like Europe where magic exists and war is on-going as each nation is aiming to conquer more land. Tanya is a badass girl who quickly rises in ranks in the military and is on the forefront line of the war.

2. Drifters

The gathering of several well-known historical figures from different era's summoned into a fantasy world, the ones that traveled across these worlds are known as Drifters. Following Toyohisa Shimazu as he meets warriors that were thought to be dead. The Drifters have been summoned to fight the Ends that have created the Orte Empire. We get to see familiar names such as Nobunaga, Jeanne D'arc and more as there will be several complex strategic battles.  

1. Golden Kamuy

Former hero, with nickname Immortal Sugimoto travels and ends up on a journey with his partner Asirpa by his side. The journey with the goal of finding a treasure hidden by a prisoner, where the only clue to finding it is finding the escaped prisoners that have been tattooed with each tattoo together leading to the treasure. Although there is a lot of heavier and darker themes there is also a lot of questionable funny scenes in between.

Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue Episode 7 (Episode Review)

Ones that cannot be controlled

The episode starts off with Subaru and his editor discussing the design for the cover of his first to be released volume, with this the suggestion of having an autograph event is brought up. Subaru, as expected, turns it down immediately as he in his head states that he avoids any situation he can't control. The thought passes through his head as the doorbell rings and he is faced with Hiroto, 3 kids, and a girl... Read more

Subaru, unused to having so many guests and starts preparing tea for the food using the tea set his mom got. Nagisa, Hiroto's little sister who Subaru met when she was a toddler and now a high school student, seems to have a crush on Subaru... Read more

Don't ever let your guard down

Haru peaceful rest is abruptly disturbed by the twins and the toddler. She sees them as a threat at first, as "weak looking minions", and was about to scratch the toddler but soon recognizes that they're small ones and recalls Tora's teaching that the small ones are weak and should be protected like her younger siblings. She starts playing with the kids. When the food is the delivered Haru reacts to the smell of the food and gets herself to the hallway.

Things really go full circle in this episode but also the series, overall. The world sure is small, the food delivery was the mother and child that used to feed Haru and the girl's name, that Haru(cat) thought meant food is now her name. Eventually we get back to the scene when Haru and Subaru fall asleep on the floor, as she approaches him she gets a flashback to Tora again saying "don't ever let your guard down" and as she gets closer she thinks that it's ok to let down her guard because it's Subaru.

With the first episode, I initially got the impression that the rest would just be a generic cute first love high school story. But that was not the case, drama develops and the story becomes a bit heavier/darker. Aside from the love story, we are also shown their struggles with choosing their career paths. From the jittery butterflies of first love to bittersweet reality of hidden feelings, we see Haruki and Miou's relationship develop.

Although it's a series of 6 episodes the pacing is very similar to that of a movie. You might as well cut the OP and ED and have a solid 2-hour movie... Read more

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken Episode 20 (Episode review)

[SPOILER ALERT]

Things have settled down after Charybdis and the town celebrates with a feast. Milim leaves the town to work assuring that she will tell the other demon lords to keep hands off her buds Rimaru's business. That night as Rimuru is in tears from seeing Shizu's regret of not being able to save and protect the other-world summoned children she sheltered and taught. From here things escalate and in a way goes back to the main storyline where Rimaru's goal is Shizu's will of getting revenge on Demon Lord Leon and protect the 5 children, her former students. Rimaru leaves the town with Ranga by his side to go to the school where Shizu taught in the kingdom of Ingrassia... Read more

Rimuru meets Yuuki, Shizu former student that now is the headmaster of the School of Freedom that Shizu founded, immediately views Rimuru as a threat and attacks but Rimuru gains his trust with the phrase "I'm not a bad slime" from a game in the other world. They quickly bond over games and manga from the real world. He reveals that there might be a possibility to return to the other world but Rimuru states that he's happy with where he's at now and would rather live happily with the friends he's gained. Yuuki tells Rimuru about the summoned children brought from the other world and their lifespans.

Rimuru decides to become a teacher for the five students that Shizu taught. We are introduced to the five and we see some foreshadowing as the last student Chloe is introduced Veldora from inside Rimuru reacts. Although it's a bit sudden that Rimuru decides to teach these children and his plans are somewhat unclear there seems to be some build up for what's likely to happen in the future. With the ending approaching in the next five episodes, a lot is likely to happen... Read more

Top 10 Sports Anime

Sports anime, where you can find characters go from falling in love with a sport, improving, and passionately dedicating themselves to the sport or the team, to entering the competitive world of head clashing for the sake of winning and badass rivalries. Here’s a list of my favorites... Read more 

10. Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama

Compared to the other anime on the list where the main characters fall in love with a sport and start from there or are experienced but have players that are on a higher level than them, Echizen is put on a pedestal known as a young prodigy tennis player, but that doesn’t mean that there are no struggles. This is the sequel where the middle school team is the first middle school to be invited to the U-17 selection camp. 

9. Tsurune

Archery, something I personally have experience with and really enjoy seeing in anime. Especially in Tsurune where the animation and sound really captivate the satisfying feeling of drawing a bow and shooting an arrow along with the frustration of the inconsistent aim. Our main character is struggling with archery and is in a slump. Tsurune really shows the struggles and the dedication that comes with loving a sport.

8. Chihayafuru

Maybe you wouldn't consider a card game a sport, but even chess is and so is Karuta. Chihaya Arase meets Arata Wataya that introduces her to competitive karuta. She is captivated by Arata's passion and falls in love with the world of karuta. Bringing it with her to high school she aims to compete in the national championships.

7. Yuri!!! on ice

A sports anime that for once is post-high school and the main character is professionally pursuing a career within the sport. In this case, Yuuri is already competing on an international level representing Japan. More about the coach and skater relationship between Yuuri and Viktor. As their relationship develops so does Yuuri's skating.

6. Days (TV)

Days, an anime about soccer that really focuses on the story of Tsukamoto and his battle of starting a sport from the very beginning. To catch up to be on par with the members of a team that is notoriously known as one of the top high schools in soccer, where each club member have previous experience.

5. Free!

Swimming, boys in swimming trunks in the sexiest depiction of water seen. Here we have the main characters starting the swimming club in school from scratch. On the side we also have the back story of Haru's, Makoto's and Nagisa's childhood where they swam their first relay with Rin who now attends a different school with the intent of wanting to surpass Haru.

4.Ballroom e Youkoso

Dancing can be more intense than you probably thought. The animation makes the dancing look so intense but beautiful. Tatara stumbles upon a ballroom dance studio and things happen to lead him to start ballroom dancing where he turns out to be a hopeless case when it comes to learning.

3. Kuroko no basuke

Here we have a group of five that in middle school were known as prodigies known as "The Generation of Miracles", among them was also a sixth phantom member, Kuroko. All of these separate as they enter different high schools where Kuroko enters Seirin where he starts playing with Kagami. Together they play against powerful schools with players that play as if they have superpowers.

2. Yowamushi Pedal

Onoda a cheerful otaku who's been getting around with a bulky city bike takes a round trip to Akihabara where he meets cyclist Imaizumi that uses the steep incline for practice. He challenges Onoda to a race where if Onoda wins he'll join the school's anime club that's been disbanded. From there on Onoda will be entering a world of bicycle races.  

1. Haikyuu

This one is probably my favorite because of the different teams and the funny moments that both happen in and out of the game. One of the few where I pay more attention to other teammates aside from Hinata and Kageyama and also the opponents in their matches that they even befriend their enemies, thus forming some nice rivalries.

Ashiya is not banned anymore with this I expect that he probably will return to the other side later on. This will probably give rise to more threats in the future as there is a possibility that the Executive might go after him anyways. The fact that he agreed on the bet is a bit suspicious...

Anime Winter 2019 First Impressions

1. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunosen

If you're looking for a romance that actually progresses and goes places, then this is not what you're looking for. This couple won't give you the shoujo heartthrob that you might expect when going into it. We are introduced to a frustrating war of love, where the one who confesses is the loser, between the two main characters Shinomiya and Shirogane. However, the dynamic relationship between the two still keeps the show entertaining. The two are geniuses that keep insisting on not losing in this war, makeup very interesting and funny scenes of them trying to outsmart each other, eg getting each others contact information is a game of chess. In terms of romance and the extremely slow progression it really reminds me of "Nisekoi".

2. Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue

We get to follow the main protagonist Subaru Mikazuki, a writer, in his daily life living together with Haru, the stray cat he picked up. This is a very heartwarming and cute slice of life anime. The episodes have a format where we follow Subaru's perspective, and towards the end of the episode, we get to see the same story unfold but from the perspective of Haru. After watching an episode you really get into the mood of wanting to go out and get a pet, at least I do. The interactions between Subaru who's a bit tsundere and Haru a pure-hearted kitty that lives by napping in warm places and eating makes a really pleasant slice of life with an unusual episode format. A series that I will finish for sure, a slice of life anime where you can just sit back and enjoy.

3. Gotoubun no Hanayome

The high school boy Fuutaru Uesugi has to tutor 5 sisters, quintuplets, as he's in need of money. The task of tutoring the 5 is more like an uphill battle as all of them hate studying. Helping all of them graduate is not going to be easy but Fuutaru continues trying to tutor them despite all of them hating studying. As he does so each of the sisters slowly let him in and accepts him as a tutor. Personally, it isn't really my cup of tea since I don't really care for the harem genre. I probably won't finish watching but I'll continue to watch to see where things go.

Sequels

Expecting that those who watch the sequels have watched the first season, these impressions will have more spoilers.

4. Fukigen na Mononokean Tsuzuki

As we enter the second season we are faced with a new issue due to their duties are more frequent to take place in the other world, the fact that Ashiya is human is not well perceived by the higher-ups in the next world. With this, we meet new characters from the other world on the side as Abeno and Ashiya continue working. We see more of Ashiya and Abeno's relationship as the story continues and Abeno grows more protective of Ashiya (I can't help but ship these two lol).

5. Piano no Mori 2nd season

Coming back to where the first season let off, the results of the top 30 pianists of the Chopin qualifying competition are about to be announced. Kai has been pushed aside a bit in these episodes and we get to see more of the other contestants and their backstory. Such as seeing how they handle the results, Amamiya's struggles of finding himself and his own way playing the piano and the other contestants goals and playing in the next round of the competition.

Top 10 Anime in 2018

Find this on my blog at https://anireflect.blogspot.com/2019/02/my-top-13-anime-2018.html. This will be the list of my top anime that have aired or started airing in 2018. There is no order as most of these are just what stood out to me and been worth watching. 

1. Violet Evergarden

Genres: Fantasy, Drama, Slice of Life

Episodes: 13

For sure the most beautiful animation I've seen in 2018. The story follows Violet, an "auto memory doll" that writes letters for others, as she learns how to understand and express emotions throughout her journey as a doll. Violet and her interaction with clients and other characters teaches Violet more about herself and changes the lives of those she meets. The art is amazing, with the attention to detail and colourful art style makes the animation truly captivating. For sure the most pleasant eye candy 2018.

2. Gakuen Babysitters

Genres: Comedy, School, Shoujo, Slice of Life

Episodes: 12

Anyone who loves adorable kids will die watching this. The Protagonist Ryuuichi Kashima has to take care of his little brother Kotarou by himself ends up becoming part of the school's babysitter club. These two and their daily lives are both very entertaining and heartwarming to watch. To anyone that enjoys similar anime where the main character also has to take care of or spends time with kid characters, I would recommend "Amaama to Inazuma", "Barakamon" or " Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari".

3. Miira no Kaikata

Genres: Comedy, Slice of Life, Supernatural

Episodes: 12

To enter the more supernatural realm we get introduced to a tiny mummy now lives with and is taken care of by the high school boy, Sora Kashiwagi. Similar to Gakuen babysitters as a slice of life with some comedy, but the main character takes care of a mummy instead of a child. We get to learn more about this little mummy along with coming across other supernatural beings.

4. Wotaku ni Koi was Muzukashi

Genres: Comedy, Romance, Slice of Life

Episodes: 11

I very refreshing show that instead of being another rather cliche shoujo this love story takes place in the working space where the childhood friends Narumi Momose and Hirotaka Nifuji work at the same office. Narumi struggles as she tries to keep the fact that she is an otaku secret but she and Hirotaka, also an otaku, start dating. A romance begins and we also get to see their coworkers.

5. Hinamatsuri

Genres: Comedy, Sci-Fi, Seinen, Slice of Life, Supernatural

Episodes: 12

One of my favourite comedies this year. The Yakuza member, Yoshifumi Nitta has to become the caregiver for the girl with supernatural powers, Hina that one day appears in a capsule out of nowhere into his living room. The duo's daily life becomes very funny as Hina has to control her powers and learns how to live together with Nitta.

6. Piano no Mori

Genres: Adventure, Music, Comedy, Drama, School, Seinen

Episodes: 12

The two boys Kai who's only played the broken piano in the forest and Shuuhei who's been raised to be a pianist. Majority of the anime follows their childhood from where they meet and later on they meet again in the world of competition in piano. The story mostly revolves around Kai and follows his relationship with the piano from the broken piano to becoming a pianist learning from former world-class pianist Ajino. I really recommend this for those who like anime following main characters that pursue music. Similar animes I would recommend would be "Nodame Cantabile" and "Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso".

7. Hatarakou Saibou

Genres: Comedy, Shounen

Episodes: 13

Is quite an odd one in the bunch as it instead is about the working cells in the human body, being more on the educational side than usual. We follow a red blood cell that carries oxygen and carbon dioxide through the blood vessels in the body where she most of the times ends up getting caught up in situations where the body is attacked by bacteria and is saved by a white blood cell. With a very accurate explanation of the body's functions and bacteria and the depiction and characterization of the different cells in the body, the show becomes both fun and interesting.

8. Grand blue

Genres: Comedy, Seinen, Slice of Life

Episodes: 12

Iori Kitahara moves into his uncle scuba diving shop in a seaside town excited to live his dream college life. He ends up joining his naked upperclassmen in drinking parties and becomes part of the diving club despite being afraid of water. This college life is not really what he expected but either way, the show is very funny.

9. Devilman crybaby

Genres: Action, Dementia, Demons, Horror, Supernatural

Episodes: 10

I went into this with low expectations since Netflix that does not really have a good reputation for adapting anime or manga (specifically referring to live-action Death note). This show kept me on the edge of my seat. The weak cry baby Akira Fudou meets with his childhood friend Ryou Asuka, he asks Akira to help him uncover the existence of demons. Ryou brings Akira to a party where demons have possessed the people now turning their bodies into monsters. In the middle of all this Akira end up becoming a Devilman after having to merge with the devil Amon. From this Akira gains a lot of power and continues to work with Ryou to fight again the devils.  

10. Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken

If you think you'll go into this series expecting the generic isekai where the main characters enter an RPG like fantasy world only to adventure and surrounded by girls fawning over him (at least that the impression I got) then that's not what you'll get. Rather than that, you'll instead get a former human, now an overpowered slime that gets by in this world with a following and actually building a new society as he encounters new obstacles. The slime that also goes by Rimaru easily solves situations by using logic and reasoning.
