A small reminder that July is actually Disability Pride Month.

While disabled people should take pride in themselves all year round, this is the one month out of the year that abled people should listen to disabled people because we all know they don’t every other time.

So abled people, this month is not about you. If you are an abled caregiver, this month is not about you. If you are an abled parent of a disabled child, this month is not about you. If you’re an abled sibling of someone who is disabled, this month is not about you. This month is about disabled people. You already make everything about you, so please stop. Next time, I won’t ask so nicely. Especially since part of this month is remembering the disabled people who’ve been killed by alleged “caregivers”.

Disabled people, celebrate yourselves. Whether you just want to post cute selfies to feel good about yourselves, or educate others on your condition/s, you do you this month. There’s no right or wrong way to observe this month. It all depends on the individual.

So happy Disability Pride Month and ableds, stay out of it. It’s not for you.
