Prom with Oikawa

While going down memory lane with your boyfriend you decide to show him what he was missing.

➤ pairing: oikawa toru x female reader

So like...I know that other countries do have things similar to prom but like...the American culture around prom is pretty huge. And since Japan doesn’t have a thing like prom it got me thinking

You’re showing Toru some photos of you from high school and you stumble upon your prom photos

“Oh wow, you look absolutely gorgeous here. What was the occasion?”

“Oh that was my junior prom. If you think I look extravagant there then let me show you the photos from my senior prom!”

Toru has heard of prom. Of course he has. He hasn’t been living under a rock

But junior prom? Senior prom? What???

You explain to him that at your high school prom wasn’t just for seniors but also juniors too

“But not every high school was like that!”

“Well why not?”

“I don’t know, I’m just glad mine was because I liked going to prom twice.”

He’s pretty fascinated by how big of an event it is

Dress shopping, hair and makeup, photos, dates, slow dances…”It’s like going to a wedding!” and you know what...you didn’t think about it like that until he pointed it out

Things are going nice until you get to the photos of you with your prom date senior year

Toru isn’t seriously jealous. Of course not! That was the past and you’re with him now

But of course he still sulks just because he can

“I would’ve been a better date!”

And you tell him that you know and kiss his pouty lips until he’s dropping the act and tackling you to give you more kisses

That gets you thinking though, and so you decide to throw your boyfriend his own mini prom

Toru studies up on everything prom so that he can get it Just Right

Of course you two wear color coordinate

And he spends a backbreaking amount of time picking just the right corsage to match your dress

When he sees you in your dress he's shocked into silence

(he swears he's not getting teary eyed)

He looks damn good in his suit and though normally he's waiting for you to stroke his ego, when you compliment him he gets all blushy and shy

"Wow. If prom is like this and you look this good now, then I wonder what it's gonna be like on our wedding day."

"Toru...are you proposing right now?"

He blushes an even brighter red and quickly changes the subject. You can't help but laugh

You called up his old aoba johsai teammates and even some from his new teammates

It's not a super big event (not like real prom) but it's enough and you know it's enough because he just can't stop smiling and hugging you

Kageyama and Hinata are invited too. They come gladly, happy to see their old friend (but also because the idea of going to prom is super fun)

Ushijima is there, of course

Kyotani is stuck at the table, eating all the snacks

Matsukawa and Hanamaki flip flop between standing against the wall and being too cool to join in, and dance battling each other

Toru think he’s for sure gonna win prom king but he loses by a landslide to Iwaizumi

*cue pouting*

As per tradition prom king and queen dance together

*cue even more pouting*

Iwaizumi finds the whole thing amusing more than anything but spins and twirls you just to make Oikawa pout even more

When the dance is over Oikawa scoops you up and wraps his arms around your waist, sulking

“Okay but at least you get to bang the prom queen”

That cheers him up exponentially

(he steals your crown and sash and wears it around the party though, because it’s Toru so of course)

The Slump

Bokuto is used to you helping him out of his own slumps so he's at a bit of a loss when you go into a slump of your own

➤ warnings: It is not stated explicitly but this "slump" that "you" go through is depression or something akin to it.

You were a bit thrown off when you saw Bokuto go into his first slump

Not scared just...caught off guard

It normally only pertains to volleyball so you don't see it too often but still

So you call up his bff Akaashi and ask for advice

You learn all about this famous Slump and he teaches you how to help get your boyfriend out of it

You even learn a few of your own tricks too

Of course your Bokuto is thankful and every time you pull him out of a slump he showers you with all kinds of praise and affection

"Best partner ever!" is what he always says

And you though you two laugh about it, he's serious

This boy is seriously in love with you

Not just head over heels but deeply, truly in love with you

So when you go into your own slump he's floored

Lost. Confused.

You were always his biggest supporter and now he needed to be yours

But how?

He calls up his best bud Akaashi for advice but even he is lost on how to help Bokuto

"You've been dating them for a long time now, how would you normally cheer them up?"

"But that's not working this time" :(

So Akaashi and Bokuto spend hours on the phone coming up with ways to help you

When you get home he has a warm bubble bath waiting for you

And when you're done he presents you your favorite dinner and gives you a massage

He lets you pick what to watch on tv that night and in the morning he's up before you with a plate of breakfast right there

He's not the best cook but he makes you your lunches and always leaves reassuring, sweet notes

He leaves notes EVERYWHERE. In your drawers. On your vanity. On the toilet seat...

Of course he also gives you some space.

"Don't be overbearing!" is what Akaashi told him

So Bokuto tries. He's a loud, bombastic guy for sure but he gives you your time and space, keeping quiet for the most part

And when you finally get out the worst of it you give him a warm hug and thank him so much

"Sorry...sometimes I just get like that."

But he scoops you up into a big hug. "It's okay. That's what I'm here for, right? We're a team. You've got me and I've got you."

"I really liked the notes too...your doodles were so cute"

Bokuto blushes because LOOK he's not an artist, okay? But the fact that you liked the doodles is enough

Of course his chest puffs out as you continue complimenting him

"But please, no more notes on the toilet. Or in the fridge."

He promises to no longer leave any notes on the toilet but makes no promises about the fridge

That night as you lay in his strong, warm arms it dawns on you that you don’t just love this man. It’s so much more than that

You could really marry this man. It was a brief thought but now you realize it and let it sink in

Because even though your slumps are different, there's one thing that you both share and that's each other. You wont let him go through his alone and he certainly won't let you go through yours alone and that’s something you never really had. It’s something you cherish

Having a Black/AfricanAmerican GF

➤ before you read: I completely understand that my experiences aren't universal but I really just couldn't get the image of Ushijima being at one of my family functions out of my head. This is very self indulgent lol.

So...you have a big family

Like a B I G family

Toshi is an only child so he can't exactly relate when you tell stories about you and your siblings (but of course he loves your stories anyway)

But if he thought having siblings was fascinating, you tell him about how many cousins you have (his eyes get wide at that lol)

They get even wider and he gets even more fascinated (and surprised) when you talk about play cousins and such

So like...imagine inviting him to a family function?

With your grandma that is HUGE on hugging and your younger cousin with boundless energy that always wants to play

Toshi gets along best with your grandpa. Both are men of few words for the most part but that doesn't stop them from having a good time

Just trying to imagine Toshi's expression when he realizes that family functions start late and end even later

"But your grandparents said to be there at 10:00, it's 11:30."

"Don't worry about it, no one's gonna show until 12:00 anyway"

*cue confused silence*

Until you guys get there of course and he realizes that you're right

"Well what time does this end?"

"When do you normally go to bed?"

Your family warms up to him of course, because Toshi might be the strong silent type (especially compared to your loud, rowdy family) but he's a sweetheart

(And anyone that can sit through your uncle rambling about government conspiracies (politely at that) gets an automatic entry ticket

"So...how many people are gonna show up exactly?"He asks you.

You smile at your beloved boyfriend. His family has gatherings, of course they do, but none like this. None like yours do. Part of you feels a bit bad because you sure do hope he can handle how rambunctious your family can get.

"Oh, you know...just the usual people. Except I think my aunt's oldest son is bringing around his new girlfriend."

Toshi nods his head and watches you help your grandmother cook around the kitchen. Honestly, he really likes seeing you like this. If the volleyball court is his element, then being surrounded by your family is yours. Your smiles are always so bright and your laughter is always so warm. He likes to just sit back and watch you.

Of course, as the minutes tick by more and more people show up until Toshi is sending you a look. He's not panicked, not really. But he thought this was just going to be a run of the mill get together. It's not even an actual holiday!

"(Y/N)...I thought you send it would only be the usual people."

"Toshi, this is the usual group of people."

You promise him that once you two leave that you two will take a nice warm bath together and that you'll give him plenty of time and space to decompress.
