“There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”

3. From The Lord of the Rings:

“All’s well as ends Better!”

What thoughts and feelings do these quotes inspire? They may come from different books and from different characters, but they can encompass many moments from Tolkien’s legendarium.

The tales of Beleriand may have inspired song but so did the events of the Last Alliance, the search for the Entwives, the destruction on the One ring, the ride of the Rohirrim.

Many characters find something on their adventures—it could be an object but sometimes it’s a secret, unexpected information, or even something they learn about themselves.

Perhaps you would like to write about the moments those words reference? What did Mandos think of Fëanor’s words? Fingolfin? The Noldor gathered in that place?

There is no requirement to use the quote directly in your story but you are free to do so, if you like.

TEITHO NEWS

We greatly appreciate your continued patience and support over the last few months. As you may know, we have had significant challenges in being able to access the site to post fics. Unfortunately, real life occurrences have also hampered our ability to resolve this issue until very recently.

We are very happy to report that the site is now updated and functional again! We have posted all the fics submitted for the outstanding previous challenges. There are so many stories for you to enjoy. Happy reading!

Due to the unforeseen hiatus and backlog of challenges, we feel our best option is to skip a November prompt, to allow all of us to catch up. We will have a new prompt ready for Dec/Jan, to be posted Dec 1.

We are committed to keeping the Teitho contest an active and vibrant part of online Tolkien fandom. With that in mind, we believe Teitho would benefit from the addition of more mods, to assist us in forestalling any unexpected interruptions in the future.

Mod responsibilities include site upkeep, story posting, poll set-up and tallying, prompt creation and social media updates. We welcome all interested individuals—please contact us at [email protected] if you want to know more about being a mod or are interested in joining our team.

Wondering if there are any updates on the status of the past, present, and future prompts?

Hello and thank you for the ask. I wish I had better news to report.

There unfortunately has not been progress on our technical issues. We’ve not been able to access the account to post prompts or upload fics.

Between the tech difficulties and some real life issues going on for the mods, we’ve not been able to resolve the server issue.

We are still working on it. I’m holding out hope still. I will post here as soon as I have any new info.

Please know we are frustrated ourselves and disappointed we cannot update the site. Our apologies to all teitho fans. We miss you and your stories.

Update

We’ve had some ongoing technical issues we have been trying (and are still trying) to resolve. At this point, after some discussion, we are planning to post the April/May Crossroads stories when we are able to fully access the site. We will skip the June/July challenge. We will extend the deadline for the May/June challenge—stories will be accepted for this challenge until July 31.

We will use July to attempt to resolve the tech issues that have come up and hopefully proceed as usual with the posting of the May/June stories by the beginning of August (with voting to follow)and have a new challenge posted at that time as well for August/September.
