YOU LOVE THE darkness.

There, you feel as though you hold the entire world in your grasp. The light, however, falters under your grasp, almost as if it’s causing itself pain by being in between your fingers. You can’t help but think that it’s almost like yourself, loud and bold (maybe, you think humorously, that’s why you’re not particularly fond of it). The light is chaotic, boisterous, and overwhelming, and it burns out your mind and soul. 

The dark is a contrast to the light in every way. It is solitary, silent, and careful in its movements against your skin. You feel a sense of power amidst it, as though you can control it with the mere flick of your wrist. The darkness brings a sense of contentment to you, as if you belong there, among its shadows and stillness. You revel in the power and peace that the darkness brings you, and for a moment, everything feels just right.

The wind dances around you, a melodic tune that you can never quite decipher. It hums on your cheek and creates an illusion of harmony in the bustling city that you know isn’t really there. It is akin to light, even in the darkness. Everyone is constantly bumping into someone, everyone’s always got somewhere to be. Because the city lives and breathes in constant distress; so much so that nobody seems to notice how the sky shifts from a light blue to a tranquil orange and then to darkness, even if the city never truly gets dark. There are always lights, stars, and the sounds of nightlife and parties that can last until dawn. Despite your disdain for the city and the way it makes you feel, you can’t help but smile as you study it from afar. Perhaps it’s the allure of the city’s chaos that keeps you here, or maybe it’s the thought of what you could make of yourself in the midst of it all—but that didn’t matter, not anymore.

You’ve always promised yourself when you were younger that you’d leave.

One day, you had whispered to yourself in the darkness, when you were six, your favourite stuffed animal tightly tucked between your arms, one day, we’ll go away. You can’t remember whatever caused you to tell yourself this at such a young age. You think it was probably something silly—a classmate’s admonition that some activities were simply reserved for boys. Or maybe it was because your parents had refused to let you get ice cream after you’d finished all of your green vegetables (all that suffering for nothing, really). But the mindset had continued to stick in your mind; an ember of determination that refused to fade away.

One day, you say again, when you’re thirteen because your teacher had failed you in your first ever physics exam, one day this won’t matter. We’ll go. We’ll leave. You say it so firmly and so surely that it scares you sometimes. Because, really, you’ve never been anywhere but here—so you ask yourself: What if it’s just the same? What if it’s just as bad?

One day, you say again, when you’re seventeen because you have been looking at universities far off and away from your city far away from the constant distress it emits. You’d stare at the campus pictures on the website and study the student’s bright wide smiles, and sometimes, you’d picture yourself in those hallways, with a group of new friends—you’d be the smart, and the witty one. You’d laugh a little harder, and smile a little brighter. One day, We’ll be there. Anytime soon.

“What are you smiling about?” his voice pulls you out of your small reverie. He looks good in the darkness. Specifically this kind of darkness, one that isn’t just quite completely dark. You find that kind of darkness here, where you could see the entire city live and breathe, where you could see some underlying beauty within the city.

You offer a meek shrug, eyes never leaving the city, “It just— feels so real now, no?”

He rests his chin on one of his bent knees, sighing. “It’s always been real. You’ve wanted to leave this city forever.”

“Well,”  you exhale, “I didn’t expect to leave so soon. I always thought maybe I’d stay in this city a little longer. I don’t know.”

“With me?”

You frown at him slightly at the question. “Yes. Yes, of course.”

“For me?”

The question is cruel. You don’t need him to make you question yourself because you have spent your entire life yearning for nothing more than to go and leave. You hate him for it, kind of. Because really, what did he expect you to do? Stop everything, and stay with him; for him? I’ve got dreams too, damn it, you want to yell at him, scream at him, I’ve spent my entire life hating nothing more than the god-damn fucking city, and you’re here to mess all of it up. “For me?” Yes. Yes FOR you. Everything’s FOR you! 

You can’t dispute the truth, though. Yes, you’d stay with him. For him. Whatever.

Yet as you sit with him by your side and gaze out over the city, you suddenly realise —almost as if you had never thought about it before—that leaving this city meant leaving him as well. The very notion of leaving him felt so alien to your mind. Somehow, you had subconsciously imagined that you’d be going away with him —it’s always been one day we’ll leave, we’ll go— besides, you’ve always known Spencer. In a way, he was like… God, you can’t even say it. You just needed to leave. You can’t look at him when you answer a soft: “Yes. Yes, for you.”

Spotify Wrapped - Miss Americana & The Scarf

The video opens on this pair, Miss Americana and an anthropomorphized red scarf they are standing inside TS right eye. Being hidden within her eye they are just below the skyline, between the Cornelia St sign and the dice roll. There are two shots of them. In the space of a few seconds the sun (her pupil) rises behind them as they meet, join hands, drop hands off-camera, but then come back together and press against one another back to back, they disappear in a literal blink of an eye just before the final zoom out. The sky is blue, fluffy cartoon clouds go by, seagulls fly through the shot, and orange-red leaves fall from the mask worn by the scarf.

Miss Americana is one of the few characters completely unmasked in the video only glitter obscures her face, I interpret this as her being a facet of TS who is more exposed to the public eye, she wears a tight pink dress with a giant bow covering her chest, very feminine, she's wearing the Miss Americana title spelled out in black friendship bracelet beads like a beauty pageant sash. The black and white beads are a notable contrast to the blue/purple/pink beads of the other friendship bracelets worn by Mountain Taylor. Both of her wrists are covered in bracelets and I think that her earrings are made of tiny versions of those beads too but they're all illegible, the earring looks like lazy daisy petal outline.

Daisies have history in Taylor's lyricism "I once was poison ivy, but now I'm your daisy" and in her online public presence particularly in the run up to the launch of Lover and in the context of her relationship with KK.

The Scarf is a woman clad in a loose red satin robe layered with a giant red pointed scarf, aside from a toothy smile her face is obscured by orange leaves (shades of a Cheshire cat smile.) The leaves that make up the mask are the same colour as the flames of the burning house and the leaves in the snow-globe/crystal ball. Her left hand is always hidden.

The All Too Well scarf is represented another time in the video, wrapped around a cat in the foreground, but, TS says that whenever we see a cat it's just to remind us that she really likes cats so maybe that one is ignored by association?

Miss Americana is most obviously paired with The Heartbreak Prince, so does scarf-lady represent the prince as well or is the prince just absent? If so were they ghosted in favour of 'the castle' or are they just missing a direct representation because every figure in the video is part of her personal mirror-ball? All Too Well og version was on Red and the scarf represents innocence/girl-hood, is that something she could be reclaiming or, uh, re-gifting, through Miss Americana in the Lover era?

Pageants are pretty universally a feminine pursuit, and in the TS universe they're something that can be worn as a mask, and something that might be avoided to frustrate old fashioned expectations. In MAATHP "no cameras catch my pageant smile" as she ripped up her prom dress "running through rose thorns" when she saw the political landscape and ran for her life. In Dorothea the muse is "Skipping the prom just to piss off your mom and her pageant schemes."

In MAATHP she addresses a You throughout the song, no pronouns, but "the damsels are depressed"/"we're so sad, we paint the town blue" it's easy to read THP as being female. It sounds like an apologetic plea to a lover a - you know I love you but this is a terrifying time of loaded dice and there's an unfavourable scoreboard so lets not fight with each other lets just run away together and we'll come back to this battle when the time is right. I can't help but wonder if it was originally written as Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Kid.

The image of a rising sun in music always reminds of the song House of the Rising Sun which despite the popular radio version has its origin as a folk song in which the protagonist is either a prisoner or a prostitute or both. The idea of being trapped/caged/locked in to a certain image is a theme throughout Taylors work. Of course there are more obvious connections to Taylors own work, Lovers pre-launch name was Daylight, and the song Happiness references "a glorious sunrise" both of which I've blogged about here before with the general theme of Sunrise being a metaphor for coming out of the closet. Sunrises generally signify beginnings, it's interesting that in this clip the sun rises over this relationship but never sets, just becomes hidden away.

The seagulls in this clip reference a prevalent part of the imagery for 1989 both og and re-recording, they have long been rumoured to be covert symbols of sapphic love in the TS universe. Here are some 'lesbian seagull' references if you're curious. :) [1] [2] [3]

THE OFFICIAL TAYLOR SWIFT X PHOEBE BRIDGERS DEEP DIVE/TIMELINE

— haven’t found any deep dives/timelines of phoebe & taylor’s relationship & i don’t have anything better to do soooo here’s my attempt at making a coherent timeline… feel free to correct me if i get any dates wrong! i also might have forgotten some interactions so let me know of any not included!

PART 1: 2021

— while in the process of re-recording Red, Taylor reaches out to Phoebe to ask her to join her on a vault track, which we now know as Nothing New. this is officially announced on August 6th. during the Red (Taylor’s Version) press tour, Taylor mentions reaching out to the artists, and specifically uses Phoebe as an example here @ 1:55.

— it’s also important to note that up until the recently released ‘remix’ of Snow On The Beach and the Karma remix, Phoebe was the only female artist Taylor sung a duet with. prior to Nothing New, she collaborated with 3 other female artists; but they only sung backup vocals.

— when Red (Taylor’s Version) was released, Phoebe shared this post via Instagram, which included a screenshot of Nothing New on Spotify and a fan made meme of Phoebe and Taylor. shortly after the release, a trend starts on TikTok, and Taylor participates in it, posting a video on TikTok and Instagram on November 18th, with the caption, “I cringe but I miss her. Your move @/phoebebridgers”. Phoebe responds on December 3rd via TikTok, posting a similar video with the caption, “@/taylorswift we were both young”. this is a play on the Love Story lyrics, which are seen in the background of the photo Phoebe chose for the trend.

PART 2: 2022

— Phoebe attends the 2022 Women in Music Billboard Awards, and is asked about her collaboration with Taylor on the carpet. She gushes about her for almost a minute (0:46-1:28) talking about loving her music & trying to respond to Taylor with the “right amount of chill”.

— there are no more 2022 interactions until Eras Tour is announced, and Phoebe is announced as an opener. Phoebe shares this post which includes two photos of them, presumably from a past event (possibly Midnights release party?).

PART 3: 2023

— at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards, Phoebe presents the Innovator Award to Taylor. she gushes about her in her speech, mentioning being grateful to “have grown up in a world with her in it, or, The World (Taylor’s Version)” and how she’s helped her with songwriting. the same day, Phoebe shares a screencap from the show where she and Taylor hug. a video of them also goes viral where Taylor and Phoebe are talking, and Phoebe looks nervous, and at one point glances at Taylor’s lips.

ok so, since you asked: THP/ITD are companion fics, which i like to think of as book 1 of this universe. there will be a book 2, though that might potentially be a book 2 and book 3, depending on whether or not i decide to split it since the skeleton of the outline is around 20 chapters.

that said! i have a tendency to get a Big Ick about everything i write, and that's where i'm sitting right now with this universe... so we'll see how people respond to will fic and go from there. i don't really wanna take the time to write two novels if not many people are interested in reading it, so i might move on

i do love a good cliffhanger though since it does leave the door open to revisit the universe, so you can expect ITD to end similarly to THP >:)

Re: Your answer to the THPS 1+2 ask, it's also fascinating how often corporations will sacrifice long-term prospects for short-term profits. Rolling VV into Blizzard may have been more profitable than THPS 3+4 right now, but probably less profitable in the long run than letting them do more work opening up more revenue streams from dormant IPs for Activision. But every quarter they've gotta make more than last quarter, so they end up shooting themselves in the foot.

Oh, absolutely. They only take responsibility when it comes to receiving praise, most of which amounts to "good job cracking that whip, sir."

And they only want today's money, because if they wait until tomorrow, somebody might catch up to what they're doing and pose a reasonable threat to the line going up. So they will -- and have -- chewed up entire industries down to the bare dirt, leaving nothing but dust and tumbleweeds for everyone else.

It's all about them, it's all about their money, and as long as they have enough safeguards that let them constantly pump and dump, it doesn't matter who they step on along the way. Even failure, ultimately, will never touch them, because by the time their destructive practices legitimately catch up with them, the worst they suffer is a slap on the wrist (if even that) and an extremely comfortable retirement.

It's all a long con and nothing matters except how hard they can get someone else to crank the machine to fill their pockets up before they ultimately cash out. Loyalty, reputation, none of it matters, because they can just buy their way out of most trouble.

Microsoft's been doing it for years. They were in the dog house after the Xbox One "no used games, always online" launch problems, so they pivoted to this friendly, generous company, who proudly supports backwards compatibility and has this great thing called Game Pass where they give away $1 trials almost constantly.

Except now the tides are shifting back in their favor again, and wouldn't you know it... that generosity is starting to dry up.

For one of the richest companies in the world, they are absolutely willing to buy your goodwill. Public opinion is a commodity they can and have purchased. Sony did it, too. Hell, even Nintendo tried it -- compare the original Mario Kart 8 DLC on Wii U ($12 to almost double the size of the game) versus the current Mario Kart 8 DX DLC on the Switch ($25 for ports of phone content).

All it takes is being far enough in the lead and the masks start to come off.

How does LAO's past life affect their current life?

So far with all of the people whom I read here, you are the only person that have a heavy cards spread tbh. You have a VERY negative pattern past life. You still carrying out the frights, traumas and deep-seated fears from your past life, you always have a negative feelings. About how you can heal of this, you can work with a therapist or even listening to regression audio since it can help you to release this old negativities and as well heal this old and toxic energies. You can assess and heal these issues. You were also more fond of astronomy and astrology rather than tarot or oracle readings. One of your love to do, up until then and now is stargazing. You were also an obedient individual, you follow the rules that your parents and teachers giving to you this is because you have encountered intimidating authority figures in your past. It's normal to be intimated with those authorities and powerful individuals. The fears of standing up for yourself and being pressure between wether you follow what's they're saying to you or standing up for your rights. This makes me sad somehow, because I can somehow relate with this part.

There's a high possibility there's someone in your current life is pressuring you so much and please don't be mad about me since this seems like a mother or a mother figure for you(Authorities card, followed by THP). wait i posted this on my private twitter and my friends said it was very interesting so post of what recovering from a 10 year restrictive eating disorder did to me:

context it was from ages 9-19 and im mid-sized afab and not intersex (i think all of that is relevant to what im gonna talk about) 👍🏻

- first months after actually starting to eat proper meals at least 3 times a day i was SO hungry. i've never felt so hungry before in my life. it was like i had learned to ignore my hunger for so long that when it came back it felt like a life/death situation

- obviously weight gain and if you're mid-sized like me and didn't let yourself gain the weight you needed to be healthy you're gonna go through some changes that are different than a skinny person's: i got stretch marks for the first time since puberty and in places i didnt during it like my upper arms and behind my knees. it's like im finally letting my body grow where it needs to. i was a bit weirded out at first but i think it's kinda cool

- about that last point: it does feel a little like puberty 2.0 i have acne again ! a lot of it. according to an article on hormones & eating disorders¹ “Compared with healthy women, both AN and BN patients exhibited increased plasma levels of 3α,5α-THP, DHEA, DHEA-S, and cortisol but reduced concentrations of 17β-estradiol.”  something something cortisol and androgens are high but estrogens are low. and messing up with your food intake messes up with every system in your body so my understanding is that having to settle all those systems back to normal messes with hormones and stuff & recovery is kinda stressful which stress also does things to your acne but don't quote me on that i study humanities. and a lot of people who have been in a similar situation also say that acne breakouts during recovery are normal so i wouldn't worry too much

- i feel more proportionate! i used to think my boobs were too big for my body and i felt super self conscious about that but now i feel like everything fits well like this is how my body is supposed to look like

- relapsing is normal and i've relapsed a couple times but it didn't last longer than 2 days. at some point i just made the decission that it wasn't worth living like that and now im doing pretty ok

- i'm not as cold as i used to be? win

- i did get back into patterns of comparing myself to others based on weight which i hadn't done in the years i was at my lowest weight (right before recovery) but it's ok i'm working on it and it'll be fine

- im SO much more happier and less stressed about everything. it's a control disorder at the end of the day and it just feels so nice to not have to be in control of every single thing you do at all times i've never felt this relaxed

- weight gain also includes having to buy new clothes a lot of the times and, if you're able, i just get rid (donate, give away, etc) of the clothes that don't fit me! i don't want a reminder of what i used to look like every time i open my closet or get stressed about things not fitting me ! it's better for me to just go out and try to find something that works for me now

- i don't know how to explain this but i feel healthy? there's a constant sick feeling that comes with eating disorders. i feel like i got color back on my skin and my bones don't show and im soft and i've never felt prettier !

- regaining a good relationship with food has been the best part. i've tried so many foods and learned how to cook and <3 it has awaken a passion for cooking in me which is super cool i never thought i'd be interested in that

ok so here's the thing. i have so many high and lofty goals for myself, and if i had an infinite amount of time, i would write all of my crazy story ideas. (me staring at the sequel to i know better that i said would be written in february and still has yet to be outlined lol)

that said, i really, really, really love the thp universe and i do have a lot of ideas and the plot figured out for a sequel to thp. in my mind thp and will's fic co-exist as one "book" together since they cover the same events, and then i have a sequel to that book in My Brain

will i ever write it? i sure hope so!!! i'm gonna start with will's fic for right now, see if people are still interested in the universe, and see where i'm at as far as inspiration goes :) but there are lots of fun ideas i think left to be explored so if The People want it hold me accountable LOL
