#yona of the dawn role play
Text
Tumblr media
Hello everyone and thank you for following and / or lurking !   I am REKI, I am a 29 year old female, with two jobs and three cats, who has been roleplaying for a few years. This is an INDEPENDENT & SELECTIVE blog and is meant for a 21+ AUDIENCE. TRIGGER THEMES ARE PRESENT AND WILL BE TAGGED !   I used to have a Hak blog but have long since forgotten the URL. ; A; My best friend actually got me into the series and I collect the manga. Sadly, I am missing a few of the beginning volumes. Please hit that like, follow or reblog button if you would like to interact with Hak!! Rules Below:
RULES, LAWS, IMPORTANT STUFFS.FIRST AND FORMOST! I love ALL pairings. I will not tolerate any hatred towards any character.
1) These rules are subject to change.
2) There will be no hate messages on this blog. Meaning if I get sent a hate message it will just get deleted. I will not waste my time brooding over your message so you are just wasting your time typing it up.
3) No god modding. Understandably my characters can’t win EVERY single battle and will not win everything. I usually like taking a few and then your character takes a few. I will always, ALWAYS, come to you and ask how the end of the fight will turn out that way I can write accordingly.
4) Writing. I don’t expect a novel back if I write a novel, and sometimes I do. However, I do expect something to work with, please do not respond back to me if I leave you with a detailed post only for you to give me a one liner, it just kills the mood. – In addition! If you would like to respond to an ask please link the ask on a fresh new post, and tag me just in case, that way it looks more appealing. I do that with other roleplayers. C:
5) Original Characters. I love original characters, I personally suck at writing and developing them so for all of you original characters out there I applaud you. However, please don’t use me to come up for ideas of your original character, that’s not my job. If you like for a starter please understand that I will be staring at your character about page for a long, long, long time. It’s a little difficult for me to write for an original character so please be patient!
6) Ships. Here we go … This is a huge one for a lot of people. I am a Multi-shipper or trash – I’ll accept either lol. You are free to jump in my inbox or IM me and be like “Hey baby. You and my muse * suggestive eyebrow wiggle*”. I will most likely be like “FUCK YES LETS GO!” and bam! We ship. But here is my problem with most people: I have a lot of ships that I absolutely adore however, if you don’t like the ship me and my roleplay partner are doing you can either unfollow or shut the fuck up and ignore it, black list it – whatever. I’m saying that in the nicest way possible. I’m tired of people complaining that they “Hate this ship but I saw it and read it so now I’ll bitch on my blog about it.” Calm down, grow up and again, unfollow that person or ignore the post. Plain and simple or else you’ll probably be hearing about it from me. I have been in too many fandoms where this goes on.
7) Exclusives/Relationships. I am a-ok and more than happy to exclusively ship when it comes to main ideas and plot, but please remember that I am only one person and I do like interacting with other people. Exclusives doesn’t mean you own me in anyway. Exclusives to me normally mean that you are a close friend and most likely already have my discord. The more was talk IC or OOC the more likely I will pick you as an exclusive for main plots.
8) Reblogging when you have no permission. During my time of roleplaying on many sites tumblr is probably the worst for this rule. Anyone who reblogs threads, asks or any other communication between my partners that they are not tagged in will be kindly asked to delete the post. If not deleted within 24 hours you will be blocked from my page and I will not remove it.
9) Nsfw. Is only available for people who are of age and adults. I am 29 and I do not take light of being tricked when it comes to age. I will be asking your age if it is not in your mun section or anywhere visible, I will not be held liable if you are lying to me. You MUST be of legal age, please ask if you are interested in rping nsfw.
10) Personal Tags & Passwords. I don’t do personal tags or passwords. Final answer, if you follow me then it means you understand that I will NOT be tagging any personal tags.
11) Triggers. I don’t expect people to tag my trigger mainly because it only happens around Halloween time. I understand people are in the spirit but I absolutely hate seeing scary things pop out at me. It leads me to paranoia and I just can’t sleep at night. Anything paranormal I can’t handle, which is why I can’t watch scary movies. If I do see this on my dash it does lead to an unfollow, but not a block.
12) Icons. These icons have been created by me, but I do not claim that the art is mine. Anything from the managa or fanart I do not claim to be mine.
13) Other. Other than all of this “Don’t do this, and don’t do that” I really just want to have fun with each and every one of you. Thank you so much for either reading or skimming over my rules.

there's something to be said about Hak's character and how it was written with the very intention of being broken. like at the very beginning we're introduced to him and he's a 19 years old boy who's got it all figured out. he's the thunder beast, strongest warrior of a thousand years, the newly appointed general of the wind tribe. he's the personal guard to the princess of the country who's one of the closest people to his heart and he's the right hand man to his best friend and soon to be king of the country. he knows exactly how his life is going to play out, and if he's a tiny bit heartbroken because he's never going to be loved back by yona, he'd long since made his peace with it so it's neither here or there really. he just has to sit right where he's always sat and watch it all play out. he's got it all figured out.
until he doesn't.
until his life shatters apart in the blink of silence right before dawn. until his best friend betrays him and everything he's ever held dear. until he's kicked out of the castle and made into a fugitive in his own country. until he's carrying the limp body of a princess who's all but given up.
okay so it's fucked but he's not going to let that stop him. a soldier isn't worth shit if he can't think on his feet and adapt as he does. so he's got a princess to protect and avenge and a traitor to kill. he can work with that. he's starting to figure it out again.
only that doesn't sound quite right because a few weeks in and the princess wakes up demanding to be taught how to use the sword and no. no no no. that's your role. that's what you're here for. you've been kicked out of your home and betrayed by the person you've looked up to the most but you still have her to protect and keep safe so it's okay but now it's not because she wants to weild a weapon and put herself in danger and what if you lose her then you'll have nothing left then it all breaks down again then—
you get over it. lessons of swordmanship by the riverside and lessons of archery deep within the forest and between each session you're not only surprised by her improvement but also by how many people there suddenly are to witness it. it's no longer you and her and it's grating on your every nerve that you have to share the only thing that you have left in this world but she deserves love and support and protection and happiness and if these people can help then so be it. it's fine.
but it's not really because jaeha is an annoying bastard who has no concept of personal boundaries and kija is a pampered idiot and zeno is just plain fucking weird and yoon has one hell of a temperament and shinah is so quiet you'd sometimes forget he's even there if it weren't for how damn conspicuous his entire existence is. but between fighting over the last meatball and ridding towns of gangs as the happy hungry bunch, this group of misfits becomes yours. because jaeha is still annoying as all hell but he's funny and dependable and you might've once had the passing thought that it'd be nice to have an older brother and now you do and it's not half bad. kija still trembles at the sight of an ant but he's saved your ass almost as many times as you've saved his so you're working hard on not judging him for that. zeno frustrates you to no end with his blatant disregard for his own well being and you'd honestly like to punch some sense into him but a) that'd be incredibly counterproductive and b) you're not much for bullying elders even when they do deserve it. yoon cares for you the way no else ever had and to you shinah is what all those little brats waiting back in the wind tribe are.
you're startled to find that you've come to love these people more fiercely than anything else. they're your family and now when you think of the future it's not to craft bloody plans of revenge so much as it is look forward to the many years you want to spend with these people.
but then the rug is pulled from beneath your feet once again and the princess is with suwoon heading an army into battle and yoon is in danger and suwoon is sick? he's dying? but you can save him with this weak withering plant so you clutch it as tightly as you want to clutch his neck and watch it break.
you're injured and weak but still standing so it's okay.
but then the most terrifying sound you've ever heard splits your heart right down the middle and a wave so gigantic follows and there's no escaping that. you think of jaeha smirking and kija cursing at a bug as if it's going to care and zeno gobbling down your share of meatballs and yoon ranting about the chores and shinah playing around with ao. you think of suwoon and how much you hate his guts and how much more you hate yourself for not being able to save him. but your very last thought you spare for yona. the one constant in this turbulent impossible to plan life. you think of her eyes and her hair and her smile and her kindness and her laugh and her weird sense of humor and—
you're dead. it hurts like a bitch but hey you always knew that it would. death being a state of eternal peace where all your pain and sorrow is washed away? that always sounded like the kind of too good to be true bullshit you'd never believe. you're standing in an open field and rain is pouring down and you think that wherever this is, hell or heaven or both or neither, this place has got a sick twisted sense of humor. but you're dead and you've failed to save yoon and suwoon's going to follow you here real soon because the bastard is going to die because of you and you're never going to see yona again so really this is the least of your worries.
only you're not. you feel the cold of the rain right down to your bones but the sound of each water drop hitting down doesn't rattle you as much any more because you can barely hear it. hands are gently covering your ears and their warmth is one you know better than your own name. her face, pale and tired and sleep deprived is staring up at you and you've never seen anything so beautiful in your life.
she's alive. yoon is alive. jaeha and kija and zeno and shinah are all alive. the withering plant has made it safe and sound to suwoon. "you've protected us all, Hak," she says and the rain trails a path of tears down her cheeks. you're not sure you believe her. you're not sure if you're alive or dead. you don't know where you are. you don't know. but she's here just as she's always been. and for now it's okay.

Hi! I’m Bridge and use she/her pronouns. I’m 22 and only role-played with adults (18+).
Looking for various fandom role-plays that take place in a mansion.
It’ll definitely be a heavier smut role play, but there will be times for slice-of-life and travel/adventure.
PLOT (READDDDD): The plot is based on a fanfiction called “A Whole New World.” OC ends up making a selfish wish after reading an old book that sends them to an alternate world. That wish? They wanted a harem of their favorite characters from the media. Now, it’s up to them and the characters to find a way back, that is, if they *can* go back. I will share a list of fandoms.
I WILL NOT role-play them individually. Please don’t message me asking for a completely different role-play plot than what I have offered, I will refuse. Below, I will give a large list of fandoms I am able and want to include in the harem. Some of them I have not played/watched/read, but I am willing to learn/I am interested in the fandom but have not gotten the time to indulge in it.

Mom's a Matchmaker?
So in my life, I have my biological mom. She's the one who I usually vent about on the blog, especially when I was younger for a multitude of reasons. The main one is that she wasn't really there for me emotionally, she still isn't but she's a lot better than she was.
But I was lucky enough to meet a woman who was more than happy to play that motherly role when I was younger. She really helped me grow in a lot of ways. Communicating my feelings, setting boundaries for myself and others, seeing myself in a more positive light, coping with my depression before it got treated, you name it and she probably had a hand in helping me in some way. Hell, even just a few weeks ago, I went to her and showed her that I was top of my class in college just because she was the only constant adult figure who shared in my enthusiasm, rather than just being an expectation.
You're probably wondering why I'm gushing about my mom on a selfship blog. Well, that's because all the main loves you see me rave about was because of her! No joke, one of the ways we bonded, especially when I was just a poor kid, was by watching things and playing games she had!
So she introduced me to Devil May Cry through the anime and when she saw my interest, she showed me DMC4 next since she had a guy who was just for me in Nero
She and I watched Yona of the Dawn where I fell for Son Hak (So mad that there's not a second season)
Then she got Final Fantasy 15 and we had both laughed at the boyband jokes online in vids we'd watch, so she wanted me to join her proper on the adventure. By the end of the first session... I was mad that I fell for Gladio... HE'S CUTE AND SWEET SHADDUP!
She's always been a fan of Yakuza and would play 0, Kiwami, and the remakes while I was sick. I found them funny but often passed out or would rest so I didn't fully link with the characters. But when Judgement came out and she played it in English... By the end I was googling if Yagami died because I had a massive crush on him
Then when Cobra Kai came out she legit "forced" me to watch it with her because there was a guy she was sure I'd like... By episode 5, I was head over heels for Robby...
Even though I was pining for Kaito low-key since the first Judgement, she played through Lost Judgement's Kaito Files, while I was busy with college. But since I was dying to know I had her fill me in and BAM, FELL FOR KAITO!!
The only love she didn't make me fall for was my original hubby Raiden! But when she saw how flustered I get when she'd simply say his name, she found it adorable. So I'm pretty sure that's why she got me all these loves because she loves to 'tease' me about them, but it's all nice and reassuring. So moral of all this is I may begin incorporating my mom figure into my work since she's always so supportive!

u know how literally the other day i said that i think yona’s dreams show just one possible version of the future? well i still stand by that, especially considering what she tells hak (“i dreamt of tempests and earthquakes awakening ceaselessly, or that everyone is gone…and i’m left all alone.”) but also the dream in ch 257 arguably doesn’t quite overlap with the beginning of ch 1 (i say arguably bc admittedly the last speech bubble before keishuk’s interruption could easily be the rest of the conversation from ch 1 but also aside from the first panel, which is identical to the one in ch 1, yona looks so exhausted in the dream…i mean to be fair the scene in ch 1 is shorter but still. given how perfectly those first panels line up i’d argue that any changes, no matter how minor, are very intentional). like i think the scene is very likely to play out more or less like in the dream (“to make it happen, i will stand up to any future that comes at me!”) but these slight differences point to the possibility of changing the outcome in reality instead of just. the dreams being predetermined and set in stone. also i don’t think hak’s gone for real; both versions of the scene intentionally provide very little information, and it’s possible that yona’s fear of losing everyone she loves is impacting the dreams to some extent. i think it’s way more likely that once the scene actually happens in reality, she and hak have either split up to act on different fronts (like they did during the xing arc), or he’s being used as a bargaining chip to make sure yona plays the role of the queen “correctly”, or he’s injured or at most missing in action again. i don’t believe for a second he’s actually gone, he’s a freak of nature (affectionate) and he will never die <3
also as a sidenote, i’ve said this before but i think the scene in the mountains is connected to the legend surrounding lake shinsui and/or a way to save the dragons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: the first two images are pages from chapter 257 of “yona of the dawn”, and depict a dream yona is having. the dream version of yona is standing up in the mountains, leaning on hiryuu’s sword, and looking down at a town with fairly densely packed buildings. her hair is long, and she’s wearing a cape with the hood pulled up over her head. the real yona is thinking: “what is this landscape…? is that…me?”. inside the dream, general joo-doh says, “princess yona. we should get moving.” and the dream version of yona responds, “all right.”; the real yona thinks: “joo-doh? where is hak…? where is everyone…?”; inside the dream, she says, “it’s chilly here.”; joo-doh responds, “well, we’re in the mountains.”; dream yona’s response is depicted as unreadable scribbles. keishuk says, “general joo-doh. i would ask that you refer to her as her majesty yona.”; joo-doh says, “ah. pardon me, your majesty yona.”; the real yona thinks, “majesty yona…? what about soo-won…? i’m the one leading the troops?”; meanwhile the panels depict soldiers, keishuk and joo-doh watching her, and the dream version of yona silently looking back at the town; the hood is no longer covering her hair. the latter two images are pages from the beginning of chapter 1 and presumably take place in reality. yona is standing in the mountains, leaning on hiryuu’s sword; she looks the same as in the dream described above but her expression is sharper, more determined. someone says, “princess yona, we should get moving.” and she responds, “all right.”; she lowers her gaze, and says, “it’s chilly here.”; the other person responds, “well, we’re in the mountains.”; yona says, “i’m freezing. back then…i had no idea it could get so cold outside the palace walls.”. internal monologue transitions the scene to the beginning of the story: “this is the kingdom of kohka. i used to live in hiryuu palace. the king had no son to succeed him, and no queen to bear him one.”; the scenery is near-identical to the one in the dream but shown from a slightly different angle. it’s unclear whether the scenery is actually in kohka. end ID.]

Why... would they send Hak instead of Hyuri? I don't get it. Hak has a brute strenght... from when he is a stealthy assassin? btw MN has so pretty face and eyelashes I don't get how could anyone not recognize her even with short hair
Hi anon!  As far as letting Hak out for something that Hyuri and the other guards could easily accomplish, I think this is just a Kusanagi-standard case of suspending logic for the sake of plot convenience, fanservice, and/or drama.  Still, I’ll admit I’m not quite sure where this particular contrivance is leading right now re: that final panel of Hak.  This scenario gets him out of the time-out corner and will probably give him more leverage later, sure, but the immediate consequences are still unclear.  Idk, maybe he’ll be forced to choose between laying low for Yona’s sake or siding with Yun, or maybe he’s realizing that Yun’s life and values don’t revolve around what’s good for Yona or Kouka, or maybe Kusanagi is seriously gonna pull the same shit again and turn this into a Look How Morally Superior And Righteously Badass The Protagonists Are moment with poor Judo getting smacked with the villainous framing because she can only smack one Coup Crew member at a time and it’s his turn now dammit — well, we just don’t know yet.  But we’ll see!  My tolerance for this kind of contrivance depends a lot on what the writer’s end goal is.
Also, yes, Meinyan is very recognizable regardless of her hair length.  She is distinctively attractive, conspicuously bruised and bandaged, and probably already famous among a good chunk of Sky Tribe randos thanks to her show-stopping appearance at Lantan’s funeral.  Keishuk doesn’t need Hak to help apprehend her when Hyuri, Judo, and like a dozen soldiers are perfectly capable of doing that job.  (And if you’re thinking “maybe Hyuri’s busy guarding Suwon,” remember that Suwon has multiple bodyguards, including our good buddy Eyebrows.  Hyuri can be spared, it’s just not convenient to have him around right now.)

Listen...
Akatsuki no Yona/Yona of the Dawn’s 201st’s chapter is especially brilliant. Why? Well, we have the ever faithful bodyguard archetype and the former princess of the kingdom turned vigilantes... leaving their set paradigms behind and evolving into what promises to be well rounded characters that we’ll be jumping for joy about at the end.
This has nothing to do with whether you love Hak or Su Won.
It’s about a young girl becoming a woman by accepting her role to play in politics, by protecting those she loves through her position (dead father or no), by choosing to forsake revenge - because despite how much it hurt to loose her father, she’s seen that the devastation left behind in a kingdom ruled in the past by a family that let their fears and their rage govern their actions - and by falling in love.
Hak says to her, ‘so I heard that you no longer need a bodyguard’ before kissing her senseless. He isn’t reprimanding her, isn’t forcing her into a corner by confronting her with a painful lie, isn’t making fun of her.
‘You don’t need to protect me’
He’s simultaneously acknowledging that he knows she no longer needs him as a bodyguard (not in the truest sense) and that his purpose has changed - he no longer fits that role. She’s grown enough - has faced her demons - that he’s forced to see how little he’s managed to confront his own.
The author can’t place every character front and centre: it was made clear that Yona was the main character from the start, with Su Won and Hak being a close second. We needed to see the past in prior chapters before the present could pave way to the future: Yona now understands what Su Won is doing. Does it mean she forgives him? Psh, NO. It just means that she’s reached a level of enlightenment that I for one am in awe over.
Since moving back into the palace, she’s been threatened, locked up, blackmailed and has been forced to play the royal game to GREAT aplomb. She chose not to include her dragons, to keep them safe and cut Hak off from his primary duty in life because she was genuinely scared, with good reason, that he’d be killed off for knowing that the king is dying. EVERYONE knows that his loyalty is to her and only her and that he’s the most terrifying man in the palace.
Now, I bet most of you were thinking, ‘but Hak’s a beast. he can’t be beat’.
True. BUT. The way to rule a kingdom CANNOT be founded upon bloodshed and ashes. If Hak starts a fight in the middle of the palace, the dragon’s will get involved and everyone opposing them will likely perish. Maybe the dragons would take a loss too. Are there any good guys or bad guys here? It’s not the best way to start the rule of Yona, who doesn’t even want to rule. But that’s her choice: either tell him the truth or keep him safe. Start a battle that will end more lives for a thrown she doesn’t care for or play the game.
And Hak...
He’s playing a game of his own, and it was a smart one, save for how most know he’s lying through his teeth. But he's likeable and charismatic and the soldiers love him, so he has a form of leverage there.
Long story short, he wanted IN. He doesn’t want protection, he wants to be with her on the front lines of every battle, be he a slave, a solider, a commander... a prince? Who knows. But it’s not just about being with Yona; it’s about coming to terms with what happened to the country and loves and reconciling his rage with his need to keep it safe.
He’s finally choosing a path of his own and it’s no surprise that it still leads down the same path as her, with one fundamental difference.
He’ll be her partner this time, in all the ways she needs him to be and vice versa. It’s not bodyguard and ex-princess anymore. It’s captive princess and solider. Soon it’ll be something else once more. He’s finding his place in her world, in THEIR world.
He does this by fighting for a country he believes in and cares for - volunteering to fight on the front lines AGAIN - how he faces his own rage, a rage he can’t let go of, how he’ll confront Su Won and how he’ll, one day, feel worthy of standing by the side of Yona.
That’s a powerful presence. Whether he’ll succeed is a different kettle of fish. But he’s in it now, happily. Do I think he TRULY lost that fight?
No. No I think he was taken by surprise by a supreme fighter and rolled with it, recognising that the fight confirmed his suspicions.
So what happens now?
Not sure: Su Won still hasn't revealed how he truly feels about all of this, save the indication that he expects to die and soon, serving the country. His life isn’t his own, which is incredibly sad really. The biggest criticism for the character isn’t that he killed the king, it’s that he befriended two people he knew he’d betray and threw them to the wolves.
He should never have had them care for him, should never have spent so much time cultivating a friendship he knew he’d destroy, hearts he’d step on.
But what’s done is done and Yona is greatly changed.
It’s growing ever more fascinating.

Redraw of the Yona of the Dawn Vol. 3 cover illustration.
My Reader Senses are telling me that the next few chapters of AkaYona will play a pivotal role in the story’s direction, possibly even more so than the flashback chapters have.  I am responding to this revelation by stress-drawing.

Just as things seem to be looking grim for the god, his fortune changes when a middle school girl, Hiyori Iki, supposedly saves Yato from a car accident, taking the hit for him. Remarkably, she survives, but the event has caused her soul to become loose and hence able to leave her body. Hiyori demands that Yato return her to normal, but upon learning that he needs a new partner to do so, reluctantly agrees to help him find one. And with Hiyori's help, Yato's luck may finally be turning around.

As a result of swooping in during the chaos, the all-female Party of Words rules over the Japanese government. Women in Japan now live in Chuuouku, while men battle over surrounding territories outside the ward through rap battles. They mistake her for the man Nanami rescued—the land god of the shrine, Mikage. Realizing that Mikage must have sent her there as a replacement god, Tomoe leaves abruptly, refusing to serve a human. Rather than going back to being homeless, Nanami immerses herself in her divine duties. But if she must keep things running smoothly, she will need the help of a certain hot-headed fox. In her fumbling attempt to seek out Tomoe, she lands in trouble and ends up sealing a contract with him. Now the two must traverse the path of godhood together as god and familiar; but it will not be easy, for new threats arise in the form of a youkai who wants to devour the girl, a snake that wants to marry her, and Nanami's own unexpected feelings for her new familiar.

My Roommate is a Cat (2019)
Subaru Mikazuki is a 23-year-old mystery novel author, major introvert, and an awkwardly shy person. He would much rather stay home to read a book than go outside and interact with others. One day, while giving offerings at his parents' grave, Subaru runs into a small black and white cat named Haru, which he ends up taking home with him. Subaru, however, has never taken care of anyone else in his life—can he even take care of a cat? But she notices that Subaru can't even seem to take care of himself! Will she be okay with this dunce?

FEATURE: The Anime Stars of Genshin Impact
Tumblr media
Image via miHoYo
Genshin Impact has lived up to its name in that it has indeed made an impact upon the gaming world. Launched on September 26, the free-to-play open-world game has amassed $245 million in only its first month, and that's from Android and iOS alone. I'm not ashamed to say that I have sunk an unholy number of hours into this game. Why do I like this game so much? Perhaps the biggest reason Genshin Impact is so appealing to me is that I am an anime fan.
Voices from all over the world of anime can be heard in Genshin Impact, from Naruto to My Hero Academia to currently airing seasonal anime. Being able to "hear" your favorite anime character in-game is part of what makes this game so great. Let's take a look at some of the talented people from the anime industry whose voices bring the characters of Genshin Impact to life.
  Paimon (Aoi Koga)
Tumblr media
Paimon is the face of Genshin Impact. No, literally, her face is on the launcher icon. Imagine my shock when I found out she is voiced by Aoi Koga, the voice of Kaguya Shinomiya from Kaguya-sama: Love is War. The intimidatingly smart rich girl Kaguya and the squeaky and energetic (and kinda stupid) Paimon couldn't be more different. Props to Koga for making both work. Koga has also voiced Elulu from Cautious Hero, Yuri Miyata from TWOCAR, and Sora Kaneshiro from Angel's 3Piece.
Male Traveler (Shun Horie)
Tumblr media
One of the first actions you take in the game (in most games, for that matter) is to choose your character. In Genshin Impact, you choose between two world-traveling twins, who the other characters simply refer to as "Traveler." The male Traveler (whose official name is Aether) is voiced by Shun Horie. I personally recognize him as Enta from Sarazanmai, but most would know him as Kazuya ("Kazuya-kuuuuun!") from Rent-a-Girlfriend. Some of his other roles include Ichiro Suzuki aka Satou Pendragon from Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody, Rat from Juni Taisen: Zodiac War, and Hacker from this season's Akudama Drive.
Female Traveler (Aoi Yuuki)
Tumblr media
What about the female Traveler (whose official name is Lumine)? Turns out she's voiced by Aoi Yuuki, who voices ... Mami from the same show. The irony of this coincidence is not lost on me. Yuuki is probably best known for voicing Madoka Kaname, the protagonist of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. To me, however, her most memorable role was as the titular Boogiepop in 2019's Boogiepop and Others; an unforgettable performance. She's voiced a number of other notable roles, including Tamaki from Fire Force, Tsuyu Asui (Froppy) from My Hero Academia, Tanya from Saga of Tanya the Evil, Tornado from One-Punch Man, Kayo from ERASED, Yuuki Konno from Sword Art Online II, and Hachiman's sister Komachi from My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU.
Amber (Manaka Iwami)
Tumblr media
  Image via Madman Entertainment
Amber is one of the game's most popular characters, owing to her cheerful and optimistic personality. She is voiced by Manaka Iwami, the voice of Teresa Wagner in Tada Never Falls in Love, Lykos in Children of the Whales, Mizuho in Wave, Listen to Me!, and Maquia in Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms.
Kaeya (Kohsuke Toriumi)
Tumblr media
The cool and charismatic Kaeya is, surprisingly enough, voiced by Kohsuke Toriumi, known as the voice of the hotheaded Kiba from Naruto. He has also voiced Shunsuke Imaizumi from Yowamushi Pedal, Mista from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, and Cecil from the Uta no Prince-sama franchise.
Lisa (Rie Tanaka)
Tumblr media
A lazy and flirtatious scholar with electrical powers, Lisa is voiced by the experienced Rie Tanaka, who one might easily recognize as Lacus Clyne from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. The gentle, "sisterly" voice of Lacus suits Lisa's personality to a T. Tanaka has also voiced Yomi from Azumanga Daioh, Chii from Chobits, Sammy from Time of Eve, Maria from Hayate the Combat Butler, Chizuru from Squid Girl, and Suiginto from Rozen Maiden.
Barbara (Akari Kito)
Tumblr media
The first Akari Kito role that catches the eye is her performance as Kotoko Iwanaga in In/Spectre; both she and Barbara have a near-identical dressing sense, with their frilly white frock and cap. Kito has also voiced Nezuko in Demon Slayer, Nene Yashiro in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, Kaho Hinata in BLEND-S, and Suzune Horikita in Classroom of the Elite. You can also look forward to hearing her as Tsukasa in TONIKAWA and Adachi in Adachi and Shimamura this season.
Beidou (Ami Koshimizu)
Tumblr media
Beidou is voiced by Ami Koshimizu, voice of Ryuko from Kill la Kill and Kallen from Code Geass — two popular characters from two of the biggest shows of our times. Some of her other roles include Holo from Spice and Wolf, Tenma from School Rumble, Nodoka from Saki, and Shizuri from A Certain Scientific Railgun.
Bennett (Ryota Osaka)
Tumblr media
Bennett's design coupled with his "passionate" and "righteous" personality screams "protagonist" to me. And that's exactly what his voice actor Ryota Osaka delivers, being the voice of Eijun Sawamura from Ace of the Diamond, Nariyuki Yuiga from We Never Learn: BOKUBEN, and Ryu Yamada from Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches. His other roles include Zen Wistalia in Snow White with the Red Hair, Keiji Akaashi in Haikyu!!, Yuki Sanada in Tsuritama, Nagate in Knights of Sidonia, Ikki Kurogane in Chivalry of a Failed Knight, and Sadao Mao in The Devil is a Part-Timer!.
Chongyun (Soma Saito)
Tumblr media
Chongyun is voiced by Soma Saito, perhaps best known as Yamaguchi from Haikyu!!. However, his breakout performance was as young Twelve in Terror in Resonance. Other notable roles include Tatsumi from Akame ga Kill, Adlet Mayer from Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers, Doppio from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, and William James Moriarty from the currently-airing Moriarty the Patriot.
Diluc (Kensho Ono)
Tumblr media
Diluc is widely considered to be the best character in the game from a gameplay perspective. He is voiced by Kensho Ono, whose most famous voice performance is undoubtedly Giorno Giovanna, the protagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind. Ono is also known for his performance as the titular Kuroko from Kuroko's Basketball. Other roles include Canute from Vinland Saga, Arata from ReLIFE, Mikazuki from My Roommate is a Cat, Slaine Troyard from Aldnoah.Zero, Tanaka from Tanaka-kun is Always Listless, and Akutagawa from Bungo Stray Dogs.
Fischl (Maaya Uchida)
Tumblr media
In what has to be the most on-point casting in this game, Maaya Uchida — best known as the voice of delusional eyepatch-wearing chunibyo (middle-schooler) Rikka from Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions — voices a delusional eyepatch-wearing chunibyo in Fischl. Well done, miHoYo, well done. She also voices Hiyori from Noragami, Norman from The Promised Neverland, Catarina Claes from My Next Life as a Villainess, Yoshioka from Blue Spring Ride, and Rui from Domestic Girlfriend.
Jean (Chiwa Saito)
Tumblr media
Chiwa Saito (the voice of Jean) went on to become one of my favorite voice actors after I heard her as Hitagi in Bakemonogatari, Yona in Yona of the Dawn, and Homura in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Some of her other performances include Aika in Aria the Animation, Chloe von Einzbern in Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei, and Schierke in 2016's Berserk.
Keqing (Eri Kitamura)
Tumblr media
The energetic and hardworking Keqing is played by Eri Kitamura, known for voicing such energetic characters as Mina Ashido in My Hero Academia, Yui in Angel Beats, and Sayaka in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. She also voices Ami in Toradora!, "Chief" Yachiyo in Wagnaria!!, and Bea in Pokemon: Twilight Wings.
Klee (Misaki Kuno)
Tumblr media
Klee has quickly become a fan favorite, partly due to her short stature and childlike demeanor. She is quite appropriately voiced by Misaki Kuno, known for voicing "childlike" characters such as Hawk from The Seven Deadly Sins, Momo Kawamoto from March Comes in Like a Lion, Shio from Happy Sugar Life, Serara from Log Horizon, Niko from Kiznaiver, and Akane from Durarara!! x2.
Mona (Konomi Kohara)
Tumblr media
Is it a coincidence that this game has both Aoi Koga AND Konomi Kohara (who voice Kaguya and Chika in Kaguya-sama: Love is War)? I think not. Kohara's other notable roles include Akane from Tsukigakirei, Kasumi from Asobi Asobase - workshop of fun -, Mina Hibino from Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san, Shamiko from The Demon Girl Next Door, and Tsukasa's sister Chitose from TONIKAWA.
Ningguang (Sayaka Ohara)
Tumblr media
Sayaka Ohara is known for her deep, "mature" voice — an apt fit for Ningguang. While Ohara's best-known voice role is probably as Erza Scarlet in the Fairy Tail series, she has also delivered iconic performances as Beatrice from the Umineko When They Cry visual novels and Yuuko in xxxHolic. Other well-known roles include Irisviel from Fate/Zero, Alice from Aria the Animation, Milly Ashford from Code Geass, and Mrs. Yuigahama (Gaha-mama) in My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU.
Noelle (Kanon Takao)
Tumblr media
Kanon Takao has not done a whole lot of voice roles but there are still some recognizable titles on their resume, such as Hina Tsurugi from the recently-aired Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater, Latina from If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord, Aku from Demon Lord, Retry!, and Linnea from The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar.
Qiqi (Yukari Tamura)
Tumblr media
Qiqi is voiced by Yukari Tamura, who shot to fame as the voice of protagonist Nanoha Takamachi from the influential magical girl franchise Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Her other significant voice roles are as Togame in Katanagatari, Tenten in Naruto, Rika Furude in When They Cry, Io Euclase in GRANBLUE FANTASY: The Animation, Mai Kawasumi in Kanon, Yamada in B Gata H Kei, and Jibril in No Game No Life.
Razor (Kouki Uchiyama)
Tumblr media
Kouki Uchiyama is known for his soft-spoken roles, especially villainous ones like Meruem from Hunter x Hunter, Shigaraki from My Hero Academia, and Rui from Demon Slayer. Even his non-villainous roles have that serious, soft-spoken nature to them — Tsukishima from Haikyu!!, Smile from Ping Pong the Animation, Natsuno from Shiki, Yu Otosaka from Charlotte, and Toi from Sarazanmai. He is a perfect fit for Razor, a menacing wolf-boy of few words.
Sucrose (Akane Fujita)
Tumblr media
Akane Fujita (the voice actor for curious bio-alchemist Sucrose) had her breakout year in 2017 when she played Sagiri Izumi in Eromanga Sensei and Sistine Fibel in Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor.
Venti (Ayumu Murase)
Tumblr media
Venti's naive and mischievous personality makes him the perfect fit for Ayumu Murase, best known as the voice of the cheerful and simpleminded Shoyo Hinata of Haikyu!! fame. What interests me most, however, is the fact that Murase also voiced protagonist Kazuki from Sarazanmai — between Venti, Razor, and the male Traveler, it looks like we have the entire Sarazanmai main trio assembled! Murase has also voiced Shun in From the New World, Iruma in Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, and Ryo Asuka in Devilman Crybaby.
Xiangling (Ari Ozawa)
Tumblr media
I was very excited to hear that Xiangling would be voiced by Ari Ozawa, whose performance as Chiyo Sakura in Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun (her first major role) is one of the finest I have ever seen. Ozawa has also voiced Hina Hikawa in BanG Dream! S2, Kirin Todo in The Asterisk War, Mao in Hinamatsuri, Papi in Monster Musume: Everyday Life With Monster Girls, Benitoite in Land of the Lustrous, Lynn May in Plunderer, and Conny in The Promised Neverland.
Xingqiu (Junko Minagawa)
Tumblr media
It is quite common in the voice acting industry for male characters, especially younger ones, to be voiced by female VAs. Such is the case with refined bookworm Xingqiu. This is not the first time Junko Minagawa has voiced a male character — her first role came as Ryoma Echizen from the long-running The Prince of Tennis. Her other roles include Oz Vessalius in PandoraHearts, Cornelia in Code Geass, Sailor Uranus in Sailor Moon Crystal, and Jeanne d'Arc in Drifters.
As more characters are added to the game, we can expect more talented voice work from the people behind the scenes. Further updates have teased us with the possibility of such giants as Saori Hayami and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka joining the cast. Can't wait!

SOUMA-HEN 2021 CAST
Hi, humans and oni, all fans of Hakumyu!
Since Souma-hen is a thing again I’ve recovered my original cast announcement post and updated it. The info about the actors is a mix between what I’ve found about them and info from the official cast page, but I haven’t included every past myu/stage play in the official info, so I’d recommend checking it if you’re interested in seeing more of any of these people.
Without further ado, I present you the official cast for the 2021 version of Musical Hakuoki Souma-hen:
Mizuki Umetsu (梅津瑞樹) is Kazue Souma
28 years old, his Twitter is @MizukiUmetsu, and he’s been in Musical Touken Ranbu and the Sanrio Boys stage play .
Risa Matsuzaki (松崎莉沙) is Chizuru Yukimura
She’s a member of Roys, a Japanese female duo chorus group. Playing Chizuru in this myu will be her first time as an actress. Her Twitter is @risadegozaimasu and she’s 24 years old.
Hidetoshi Kubota (久保田秀敏) is Toshizo Hijikata
Has worked in films and dramas before, also has myu/stage play experience (Sengoku Basara stage play , Moriarty the Patriot myu, etc.). He’s 33 years old and his Twitter is @kubotahidetoshi.
Shuji Kikuchi (菊池修司) is Souji Okita
First difference with the 2020 cast! Shuji Kikuchi replaces Shogo Yamazaki, who first appeared in Hakumyu in Shitan Hijikata-hen. He’s 25 and his Twiiter is @kutisyu. He’s been in some stage plays before, like the Pirates of the Frontier UtaPri stage play .
Shoichiro Oomi (大海将一郎) is Hajime Saito
His Twitter is @shoichiro_oomi. The protagonist/”your” character in the Fate/GO Babylonia Myu, also has some experience as a seiyuu (in fact google doesn’t list him as an actor but as a voice actor) and is/was in a group called "Hi! Superb"
Yuta Higuchi (樋口裕太) is back as Heisuke Todou!
His first Hakumyu was Shitan Hijikata-hen! He is 25 and he won a Junon Superboy contest (Most Photogenic) and according to Anime on Stage he’s been in other myus/stage plays, like Ensemble Stars and Yona of the Dawn. According to the cast page he’s been in  Ao no Exorcist and Hitman Reborn stage plays too. His Twitter is @higuchi24yuta.
Ryousuke Koike (小池亮介) is Nagakura Shinpachi
Second change in the cast, he’s replacing Yuta Kishimoto, who was Nagakura in both Shitan Hijikata-hen and Shitan Kazama-hen. He’s 25 and his Twitter is @ryosuke19951117. He was Akito/Agito in the Air Gear myu, and according to the cast page he wants everyone to think that Nagakura Shinpachi is cool (literally, 「永倉新八カッコいいな」kakkoii and everything)
Shouta Kawakami (川上将大) is Sanosuke Harada
He’s been in Tenimyu, Rice on stage, Hitman Reborn and Touken Ranbu stages/myus, among others. He’s 27 and his Twitter is @rjpmission. An anecdote: a few weeks ago someone I follow on Twitter went to see Rice on stage and he was one of the actors performing, which made me wonder if Souma-hen would happen since people from the cast were working on other things and I supposed that meant the situation in Japan was good enough to resume events like stage plays, included those that had been cancelled.
Teruma (輝馬) is back as Keisuke Sannan!
Sannan since Hakumyu Reimeiroku, he’s been in Kuromyu (William T Spears), Bungou Stray Dogs stage play, the Nanatsu no Taizai stage play and Tenimyu. His Twitter is @teruma_060 and he’s 31.
This makes me really happy! I still prefer Ryosuke Mikata, but he’s showed that he deserves the role, so I hope he stays in Hakumyu for many years to come! And I’m still mad that Teruma wasn’t in the Tango on the Campania Kuromyu...
Taizo Shiina (椎名鯛造) is back as Susumu Yamazaki!
First appeared in Shitan Hijikata-hen, and he’s been in some Sengoku Basara and Danganronpa stage plays, among others. He’s 34 and his Twitter is @TaizoShiina.
Taira Imata (井俣太良) is back as Isami Kondou!!!
Best dad since Okita-hen (second Hakumyu) and by this point, everyone’s senpai, what else can be said about this man??? If you’ve watched any Hakumyu other than Saito-hen, you already know him. Great man and actor, he’s 45 and his Twitter is @TAIRANT1975.
These are the characters/actors & actress that I covered in my first Souma-hen cast post. I actually wrote another one with the rest of the cast, but thanks to a broken mouse the whole post got deleted when it was almost finished. Time to redeem myself!
Syuya Sunagawa (砂川脩弥) is Saburo Miki!
Replacing Allen Kohatsu in the role of Miki, he’s 26 and his Twitter is @suna_syu_. It’s his first time in a musical, but he’s in the Kamen Rider Zero One drama. According to the Kamen Rider Wikia, he won the Avex Boys Award in 2016.
Masashi Sonomura (園村将司) is Risaburo Nomura!
He’s 22 and he’s @masashisonomura on Twitter. He’s been in Tenimyu and has done some stuff on TV (the cast page lists some things but I’m not familiar with them ;_;)
Masafumi Yokoyama (横山真史) is Kyuju Amagiri!
He’s 34 and he’s @masafumi21yoko on Twitter. He’s been in Touken Ranbu, Ikemen Sengoku and Toki no Kizuna stages. And as my friend and Amagiri’s biggest fan Lawrichai pointed out, he played Amagiri’s grandpa/relative in the Toki no Kizuna stage.
Takuma Sueno (末野卓磨) is back as Kyo Shiranui!
He’s 36 and he’s @sueno0724 on Twitter. His first Hakumyu was Shitan Kazama hen. Has been in the Sengoku Basara stage play and the Rantaro Shinobu myu (this one wasn’t that long ago so I remember seen funny pics of this on Twitter).
Hiroyuki Kawamoto (川本裕之) is back as Kodo Yukimura!
Egg dad since the times of Harada hen, he doesn’t have a Twitter account and apparently there isn’t that much info about him on Google D:
And... drum roll a big round of applause for our returning demon, the original, the one and only, SHOGO SUZUKI (鈴木勝吾) AS CHIKAGE KAZAMA!!!
I already spoiled this in my Souma-hen is back post but I’m sooooooooooooooo happy to see him back. He’s @Shogo_Suzuki_ on Twitter (where he’s posted photos of his Hakumyu-watching sessions more than once),he’s 31 and he played Kazama from the very beginning in Saito-hen until Live 2. During his absence from Hakumyu he didn’t stop acting, some of you may remember my post about his appearance in the Moriarty the Patriot myu.
Not that I dislike Yoshihide Sasaki (Hijikata in Reimei, and Kazama in Harada-hen and the 2020 Souma-hen cast), but I will always see him as my dear Viscount Druitt from Kuromyu. And let’s be honest, Shogo has his “own brand” of Kazama. He took the character and made it his own, having a unique way of portraying him and enjoying every last bit of it.
And that was the complete main cast! This time we had all the info from the start so I don’t think a follow-up post will be necessary.
As an ending note, I would like to dedicate this post to Serizawa’s actor, Akira Kubodera, who passed away last month. I’m sure he would love to see that everyone has been hoping for Souma-hen to return and that the Hakuoki Shinsengumi, or at least its spirit, can’t be defeated.
