IS ZENO THE ENDGAME VILLAIN OF YONA OF THE DAWN?
New Yona chapter is giving me the same vibe.
THIS FACE. Look at it. This is the same face of the Su-Won that was willing TO KILL YONA AND HAK THAT NIGHT. Cold, unempathetic, merciless. He has found a way to die, and he is willing sacrifice the people he cares about to achieve it.

theory about Su-Won’s last words to Hak:
“if you’re going to search for mr. Zeno and the others, do it at dawn. Leave this place before anyone sees you. Take Yona with you…
And don’t return.”
Yes I don’t think he said farewell. I initially did but reasons:
When Hak tells Yona “they should find the dragons and return the next chapter, he thinks about Soo-won’s hidden words (PROBABLY TELLING HIM TO NOT RETURN)
if Su-Won told him to not return, it would further show how the two split and parted ways which is the title of the chapter, which Hak is thinking of “that dream, which he will no longer remember” because Su-Won literally ended it
Su-Won for some weird reason told Minsu that Yona would probably “come back anymore” after she left, although he had told Hak that he intended to make Yona the ruler and thus SHOULD want her to come back and be the successor and he is SHOCKED when he learns Yun is still around. Minsu says “you thought Yona would not come back?”
Now as for why I think he would say “don’t come back/return” to Hak right after saying that he wants them to go look for Zeno, is because he is conflicted. A part of Su-Won knows how selfish he is being, and he desperately wants to avoid that impulse. He wants to not make his friends suffer any further, although he has these selfish thoughts. He is trying to fight that side of him simultaneously. So he is basically trying to give Hak and Yona an out from the hopeless situation he has put the trio in. He knows it is only logical to use them for his goals but he is no longer quite able to do that.
and I think that is ultimately what may have shocked Hak most of all. That deep down, although Su-Won might have just a moment ago said he wants to use Yona to succeed him, he contradicts himself completely. Maybe Su-Won genuinely wants his friends to escape from himself.
imagine Hak’s reaction to hearing then that su-won died.

By the end of this manga, Hak is totally going to be calling Yona as "Yona", and it's going to be so weird but amazing haha.
I can't imagine it but that's certainly a show of how much development their relationship has yet to go through!

I do not think he will die (I think he deserves it though), but I think he will get a near-death scene/sort of death. Great post!
About Soowon...
Personally, I really think that he is going to die and there’s nothing to do with it. Kusanagi sensei will make his passing be very dramatic, and I’m looking forward to it. I hope he can finally speak for himself and expresses his true point of view about his feelings and how he suffered with the family dilemma. What we've seen of him so far is basically other people's visions and desires, which were implanted in him as an obligation, a revenge that I don't feel he really buys it but sells because he feels trapped and without options after everything that's happened. I really think he loves/loved Yona and Hak, but the choices were made and even though he was confused and didn't know how to react, if he didn't do what he was trained to there would be consequences. They made the boy grow up with the weight of Kouka on his shoulders, and he was forced to choose between 2 people and the whole kingdom. To server the bonds of friendship with Hak and Yona must have hurt him emotionally as well.

The old Soowon is still there suppressed by all the adulthood drama, but we haven't seen that fully vulnerable emotional side of Sowoon yet. So Kusanagi sensei, please, make my cry when the time comes!

EXACTLY.
Even Yona, Lili’s bestie, was coddling Lili and thinking she couldn’t do much, and Su-Won is literally the only person going, “she’s very capable” from the very start, and he was never sugarcoating it.
Tumblr media
This trust and respect in her abilities that Su-Won has sets their dynamic apart from Hak and Yona's dynamic -- Hak may admire Yona now, but even he was initially coddling Yona and conflicted about her growth.
Yona might have inspired Lili, but it was not Yona who respected her abilities, that was Su-Won.
Expanding on this, it's not that Su-Won disregards Lili's safety entirely. Rather, his attitude is more like, "oh it's dangerous? you think she doesn't know what's good for her? oh not a chance, she's well aware of the risks, and she's one brave soul."
It's actually a lot nicer to see that versus Hak going all "I want to tie you down sometimes" to Yona, that really made me go ick.
Sure you can argue that Su-Won isn't overprotective because he's not in love with Lili but idk if that's the case because it's not like Yona was in love with Lili, and she still coddled her along with the others.
I love the first time Soo-Won supports Lili.
Tumblr media
It feels like an overreaction to burst into tears over, essentially, "Go for it," but makes sense when you realize no one takes her seriously.
Her father, Tetora, and even Yona view her as someone in need of protection. They coddle her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then here comes Soo-Won, telling her she's capable of making a difference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That she did make a difference. He acknowledges her strength and believes in her with ease while people closer to her struggle to accept that she's useful.

Unrelated but Kimi ni Todoke, a shoujo anime whose 2nd season ended 14 years ago, is finally getting a 3rd season.
14 years. I am a big fan of Kimi ni Todoke and a couple days ago, I was thinking about how it all ended in 2011 and there was zero chance a third season would get adapted and I had accepted the bitter truth years ago...
...then I just found out now about the news today and I am shook.
Where is Yona's second season then? Omg.

Hi. It's an old topic but I see a lot of people saying Soowon didn't have to kill King Il. They basically mean that Soowon had more options. Like I saw some fans on Reddit saying "He never any peaceful methods" "he could talk to hak or yona about everything" stuff like that. Now my question is that was there really a peaceful method or more options to dethrone Il? Personally I think what Soowon did necessary for Yona's character development. I see people saying he didn't have to kill Il buy i don't see how the "other options" they speak of would give Yona a character development. I'm sorry I can't phase it beautifully hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
Hi anon! Thanks for stopping by.
I think there is no clear answer. Both sides, no matter how unfair or nonsensical are valid. I believe chapter 243, Hak and Su-Won's talk was framed around this.
I think Su-Won could have talked to Yona and Hak about his trauma, especially Hak who trusted him deeply and was loyal. So honestly, I think if anyone was in Hak's place, the anger is understandable.
Sadly, because Hak's character has mostly revolved around Yona, he was not telling Su-Won that he was mad that Su-Won didn't trust him and broke his trust. That is one flaw in their conversation.
And it's true that Su-Won did not see Yona's potential. But it's also probable that even if Yona of the castle period underwent training, her ditzy nature wouldn't have allowed her to develop to the extent that she has now. I don't think even Hak would have imagined that she would become the way she currently is.
Hak's argument is that Yona could have grown the exact same way she did without the trauma. Su-Won thinks otherwise, but recognizes how twisted and selfish and morally unjustifiable it is for him to think that.
Personally, I think all the royal family killings and Yona almost being murdered herself and losing Hak were all just fated to happen, but because of bad writing and the moral ground being skewed to Yona's favor these days, I don't find some of the royals' motivations very believable.
Keep in mind that Su-Won did mention to his mom there being a route where Il was forced to step down:
Tumblr media
Now he doesn't exactly elaborate why killing is the best choice, but yeah it's combination of revenge and efficiency.

It is truly the weirdest thing to see Hak call Jae-ha by his name with “big bro” instead of Droopy eyes as usual.
“If you turn violent, I will stop you. I will protect you.
“Just come back to us”
They love him so much and I am in agony

I do hope next chapter we find out what Hak told Yona and what her reaction was/will be to Su-Won wanting her to be the Queen after his death + the dragons having short lives.
Why do I feel like Yona still doesn’t know.... either it’s that, or Hak told Yona and her response was completely opposite to what he expected.

Yeah, if not the main trio, I’d rather see a chapter focused on Lili, Ik-Su, Judo or Kye-Sook any day.
Mei’s character is so bad (RANT PART 1)
I really felt like Hak was being easy on Mei this chapter because the author is trying to make her likable to the audience with all her unnecessary parallels to Yona, which is an utter failure in my book.
She does not act like a general, her only plotline was how she escaped an abusive lover and got with Val (their romance seemed so randomly put together and cheap).
She is a bad female character, from the moment she went to Su-Won with that reckless plan and did not bring a single weapon.
Tumblr media
Defenseless? Excuse me Jaeha, was this woman not a general? Generals usually study military tactics?
Oh, right, I guess this general just forgot her weapon, teehee. Lol. Along with a back-up plan, even though she lived in the Kai Empire where royals notoriously back-stab each other.
No, I can understand her ideal situation being that Su-Won teams up with her, being from the same clan and all, but for someone who worked so hard just to get to Kouka to meet with the fucking king of an enemy country who you never met in your life, it is pathetically idiotic to not have a back-up plan in case things get shoddy.
And THIS my friends is the first mistake made with her character – she didn’t come prepared.
Listen, this is a general in enemy territory. The more I think about it, the more idiotic it gets.

How I would rewrite Mei (RANT PART 2)
Remove all parallels with Yona (squirrel, short hair, Val)
Remove abusive love subplot with Chagol.
Keep her as an actual general with weapons, disguised as Chagol’s concubine to infiltrate with the Dromos to burn Hiryuu Castle.
Later on when the war starts, she could be the one burning the castle, fighting Hyu-ri and with the Dromos, take the chalice to show to the Emperor, then have the dragons go missing with the carriage while trying to chase after her.
Normal plot continues?
