💖𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗛 𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗥/𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗚𝗢𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗💖 Hey there, friends! 👋🏼 It's been a while since I shared my face on here so I thought I'd pop in and say hello. 😊 Despite my busy schedule, I've been making progress on my latest project, Snow White and the Guardians of the Sword. I've had a blast coming up with new story ideas and writing out fresh scenes, and I'm feeling more confident than ever about where this story is headed. I owe a lot of that progress to the Writers Write Snippets prompts challenge, which has helped me add a huge chunk to my manuscript. I can't wait to see what new ideas March will bring. My ultimate goal is to finish this novel and get it out into the world. #wearethewildcats takes place over twenty-four hours. The Wildcat varsity field hockey team is selected by their hardass coach, and now that they’ve made it, they have to learn what it means TO BE a Wildcat in time for their scrimmage the next day. Following a group of girls who come together and develop a bond so strong that it’s the bread and butter of how they operate and crush it on the field, we see how they show up weighed down by their pasts, their secrets, insecurities, and fears, but rise through each other.

There’s something timeless about a story of friends showing up for each other, lying to each other, letting each other down, finding each other, and triumphing together. This also reminded me of my high school tennis days, and - who knows 🤷🏾‍♀️ - maybe the reason my team wasn’t exactly amazing is because we didn’t bond like… ever.

I’m also always interested in stories that take course over one day to see how the pacing is. I think the balance between backstory scenes and following the girls in the moment helps. I also think the shifting POV does a good job of keeping pace (especially because there’s no backtracking to get everyone’s take on a single moment). The suspense, for me, largely came from wondering what their coach was up to. He was sus AF and I think the portrayal of gaslighting and emotional abuse AND how victims often don’t even recognize that it’s happening to them (been there, unfortunately) was SPOT ON. Everyone had something to gain and something to lose, whether it was clout or a scholarship, and now that I’ve been working as an editor I’ve been reminded just how IMPORTANT stakes are.

If you’re looking for a book about friendship, perseverance, suspense, and how six girls discover their identities, I highly recommend We Are The Wildcats by Siobhan Vivian

About once a year I have the horrible and degrading job of searching the web for sites that have illegal downloads of my books. If you do not have the money to buy a book, this may seem like a great way to read something you can’t otherwise afford. I get it. Times are hard. But please do not think that what you are doing is NOT hurting authors. There have been countless posts by important writers about how their novels being downloaded illegally has kept them from either writing more books for a publisher or keeping them from finishing a series. The truth is that a lot of us authors make less money than you think from each purchased book - so when they are downloaded illegally it is a serious punch to our bottom line. Imagine poring your heart and soul into something you love for years. The road is hard but finally that thing you love is put out into the world. Now imagine people stealing that one precious thing from you. If you think about pirating books within this context, it is extremely heartbreaking. With these posts there are people who will comment about authors being petty, but the truth is if you really want to read that book you can request it from the library. If you don’t have access to a library, I’m sorry but that still does not make it okay to take money away from an author. Most of us want to keep writing and bringing stories to readers, but it’s hard to do that when we can barely make a living. I am finally almost completely caught up with Disney's Twisted Tales. I just started the most recent release, What Once was Mine. What if Rapunzel's mother drank a potion from the wrong flower? I'm only a few pages in but they started this story off different from any of the others already. It's set today, in our world and time. A 16 year old girl has cancer and her brother is spending time with her in the hospital. She's obsessed with Rapunzel and Tangled but he can't watch the movie or read the book anymore. Instead, he makes up his own story and this is it. I thought it was a unique and creative way to start a twisted tale unlike the previous ones. Have you read this recent release?
