“i can sell hole for fun” SO THE WAY I FEEL is very similar to my friend who described what technically counts as her “sex work” as “sex enthusiasm” in that I don’t want to sell pics & vids as a career, i just want to do it bc i’m horny but it takes time & effort to do it & im a broke bitch. and there are three tiers right. Tier One is the freebie of my tits that i send to people. Tier Two is like fetishy or kinky but not difficult to do type of stuff. Tier Three is explicit and/or requires a lot of specificity. none of these tiers involves my face being shown.
i feel that if we are friendly (meaning we’ve had a convo that went beyond “i like your tits” “thanks man” even if that convo was awhile back) you get a freebie off tier two, but any random that’s like “send me a vid of you spitting on your tits” gets Professional Rates.
the problem with all of this is i don’t work in sales anymore bc i’m bad at sales aksksk. i don’t want to promote myself & i feel weird being like “i’ll send u my feet if u send me a fiver on onlyfans” bc i don’t like asking people to spend money. but i will be damned if i’m sending feet pics for free ya know!!! that’s a thriving industry!!!!!!

If your hands were free, you would have shielded your eyes as the blinding sun greeted you. You weren’t quite expecting it to be so bright. You knew the overhead world was nowhere near as dark as it was in the Underground City, you’d seen the rays of light spilling down from the toll gate but never in your life had you expected life to seem so..,
Vibrant.
Blinking a few times, you almost had to force yourself to remember your circumstances, gently pulling against your chains. The look of awe on your face was unmistakable.
“Holy shit…” you breathed, eyes now wide as you took in your surroundings. It was warm up here. Really warm. The sun gently beating down on the busy streets. Levi appeared next to you, pushing you forward to continue up the stairs.
“Don’t get used to it, you’ll be in a cell before long,” you were expecting to catch some satisfaction in his tone, but there was nothing other than contempt. You took a breath, managing to resist attempting to kick his shin as you kept climbing the stairs, now fully embraced in the sun’s light. Though it didn’t last as long as you would have liked. Sooner than you deemed necessary, if you were honest, a carriage clattered up in front of you. It was surprisingly lavish considering you were a criminal. Squinting in suspicion, your hesitation only earned a rough push against the back of your head.
“Get in.”
“You never were one for manners were you?” you drawled after stumbling clumsily into the carriage. The plush leather seats squeaking against your own getup, leather on leather disagreeing with each other.
“Not when it comes to people like you, no,” the raven haired man took up a seat opposite you, immediately folding his arms as staring out the small, curtained window. A muscle in your jaw flickered in irritation.
“People like me? You mean people like you? Or have you really forgotten where you came from? Did you lose brain cells as well as your sense of self?” god you just wouldn’t let up, would you? Levi rolled his eyes, successfully masking how much he hated the way you spoke to him. Like nothing ever happened between you. He understood. Of course he did. He knew why you were so upset. Why you were trying so hard to hurt him. He knew you wanted him to hurt the same way you did, but knowing what you were doing wasn’t going to stop the spear you kept repeatedly driving into his heart.
You attempted to shift ever so slightly, just so your hands weren’t painfully crushed against your back. Once again the thought of kicking him crossed your mind, but the situation wasn’t exactly in your favour right now.
It was only a few moments of awkward, deafening silence before you two were joined by both Erwin and Hange, the latter opting to sit next to you, seemingly not worried about whether or not you could still skin her alive even with your wrists bound. Erwin sat a respectable distance from you, despite the size of the carriage. The man barely fit, it was only because of your own size and the size of Levi did you assume you were all able to travel together. That still didn’t stop the man opposite you from throwing you a disgusted look as your knee grazed his. Just to piss him off, you did it again.
“SO! Raven, you’re joining the Scouts?” Hange blurted out, earning her a glare from Levi, a sigh from Erwin and a baffled scoff from you.
“Yeeeaaah… no. That’s not happening.”
“I’m afraid you don’t have a choice in the matter,” Erwin chimed in, almost defeatedly.
“Why don’t you just do what you usually do with criminals? Hang me as some sick entertainment for the public.”
“That can be arranged.”
“Levi…” Erwin warned lowly, to which Levi simply clicked his tongue in response.
Shit, that one hurt. He really didn’t care for you anymore, did he?
Once again, if you had your hands free, you would have run them through your hair. Joining the Scouts? That was never really something that ever crossed your mind. It didn’t seem to make sense. Why on earth would they want to draft you in? The question was swiftly pushed from your mind, replaced by another. Something you’d been burning to know ever since you realised the Scouts knew your location.
“Who was it?” you asked quietly, staring at your feet. Levi stiffened, shifting his eyes from the window back to you. Your demeanor struck a chord with him. You looked defeated, shoulders hunched over. “Who betrayed us? I just want to know.”
A heavy silence settled over the trio, none of them wanting to be the one who broke the news. The bond and connection between you and your Nest was strong. Trust ran through your veins, so to have it broken by any one of them was already shattering your very being.
“A woman. Brown hair, blue eyes. Scarlett, I think her name was,” at that moment, everything seemed to stop. Your world froze. It was Scarlett. Your own lover. Your wife. The woman you trusted more than any of them. She had betrayed you. Betrayed all of you. She was the one who put Una’s life in danger. The one who was responsible for the scar across her neck she would carry forever.
The three Scouts looked at each other, each not really knowing how you would react. Not even you knew how you were going to react. You were stuck in limbo. Everything and nothing was going through your mind. You didn’t know how long you’d sat there staring at nothing, simply trying to process this information, but it must have been an uncomfortably long time, if Erwin’s awkward throat clearing was any indication, gently bringing you back from your thought spiral.
“Oh.” was all you could manage, still not able to raise your head. Your eyes started to burn after not blinking for seemingly too long. How could she? How could she betray you? To the Military Police, of all people. You hadn’t cried for a very, very long time, but damn you were close.
Shit this entire ordeal had been difficult, but seeing you so defeated was next level. Levi dug his fingernails into his palm to stop himself from holding you. From comforting you. He still knew you well enough to tell when something was wrong. Very wrong. And although his stomach twisted slightly with the ideas of who this woman was running through his head, it was all he could do to tear his eyes from your hunched shoulders, returning his gaze to the window as the world passed him by.
“Did you know her?”
“Why would I tell you?” you tilt your head, glaring at Hange next to you, your jaw clenched. You may have just felt the last remaining fragment of your heart shatter, but that didn’t mean you would give them any more information than you had to.
“Raven, I give you my word, we will leave The Nest be,” Erwin tried his hand at reassuring you. None of this made any sense. Why were they being nice? Don’t they know how many soldiers you and your people had slaughtered? How much you had stolen from their warehouses?
You raised your eyes, seeing Levi glancing at you cautiously. Silver hues flicking over your defeated form with that same, cemented expression of boredom, before slowly looking back to the window. You spent the rest of the journey in silence, going over all the events that had led to this moment. How you could have possibly let this happen.
You trusted Prongs. You knew he would take care of your family. But Scarlett…
The bony claws of betrayal grasped your throat, gently squeezing until it became difficult to breathe. The walls of the carriage started closing in around you. Helplessness tainting the corners of your mind. You were stranded. Captured and soon to be forced into the military. To face those titans you’d heard so many people talk about.
You’d found the first man to ever hold your heart. You’d lost him, and then you’d found him again. And you could almost feel his hatred for you.
And though you put on a brave face. Though you put on an act to convince him you felt the same…
You couldn’t find it in your fractured heart to return his hatred.
The gentle, rhythmic clopping of hooves came to a slow stop, the door opening outwards to let the four of you out. Hange hopped down the step with seemingly boundless energy, before immediately engaging in conversation with a taller, worried looking man. Erwin stepped down, but once again you refused to move. If you could make their lives as difficult as possible, you would. Pure spite was fueling you now, your only current reason to carry on.
“Oi, move,” it was a blunt command, and one you paid no mind to. Not even raising your head to acknowledge Levi had said anything. “Hey. Did you lose your hearing on the way here? I said move,” a sharp kick to your shin prompted you to tilt your chin just enough to shoot another one of your glares in his direction. He too had to keep up his charade until he could get you alone and finally have a proper conversation.
“Go to hell,” was your only response, heavily debating spitting in his face as his hands once again grasped your arm. You flinched ever so slightly at the contact, something that didn’t go unnoticed, but it appeared Levi didn’t care.
Levi did care. Holy shit did Levi care. What the hell had happened to you to prompt you to flinch in such a way? Who the fuck had laid their hands on you? Who the fuck had hurt you like that? He allowed the rage to course through his veins, before letting it simmer down. He would deal with that later.
You stumbled as you were almost thrown from the carriage, knees colliding with the stone beneath you before you were dragged back to your feet
That fucking hurt. You started to think that maybe you could return his hatred. The next chance you got, you were driving you knee into his fucking gut. But for now, you decided to settle your glare on Erwin as he was talking to a darker haired man who kept glancing in your direction. It’s only now you realised your condition. You were filthy, mud and grime greasing your hair, blood and small cuts littering your face and knuckles, a dark bruise blossoming on the underside of your chin. Levi’s hand still held you firm, preventing you from even attempting to escape. Not that you would. You really couldn’t see the point, other than running into titan territory yourself. You tensed as the tall, haggard looking man approached you, apprehension mixed with disgust clouded his eyes, but it was an expression you refused to flinch away from.
“The Raven?” you couldn’t help raising a brow.
“Stupid fucking question. No, I'm just an innocent bystander dressed like The Raven for a costume party. I just so happened to think a pair of manacles clasped around my wrists completed the look,” you hissed sarcastically, and you could have sworn you heard something that could resemble a laugh from behind you, but it was so miniscule it was difficult to tell. If only this had been ten years ago.
You watched with satisfaction as a muscle twitched in his jaw, before the man managed to compose himself.
“My name is Niles Dok, Commander of the Military Police soldiers you seem to have so much fun slaughtering,” he introduced himself in a way that made it seem like the last thing he wanted to be doing was introducing himself to you right now.
“So? Do you want a written apology or something? Have to take these chains off me first,” you spat, with the innocent smile of an adder. This seemed to rile the man up more, to the point where he fisted your hair painfully, yanking your head up. His voice lowered to a dangerous murmur.
“Listen you little whore, I don’t know which door to hell you crawled out of, but I have men specially trained to deal with rats like you. They take pleasure in every agonised scream they can rip from your filthy mouth,” you refused to let your panicked, racing heart rule your mind, using every ounce of mental strength to hold his stare, firing back with a nasty glare of your own. And it took all of Levi’s willpower not to launch himself at the MP Commander.
“Go fuck yourself,” the retort came so naturally as you actually spat in his face. It gained you a much more satisfying reaction than you imagined you would get from Levi.
Swiftly removing his hand from your hair, you slumped back, staring up at the man between the now dishevelled strands. Wiping your saliva from his eye. You flinched as the back of his hand came up to strike you. Quicker than you would have expected, Levi was immediately by your side, eyes glinting with murderous intent. But before anything could happen, Niles’ hand was caught by Erwin behind him.
“Now, now Niles. Don’t go harming my soldiers,” his voice was borderline condescending as the MP Commander turned to look back to Erwin with an expression of disbelief.
“You can’t be serious? Erwin, this wasn’t part of the deal. You said—”
“I said we would aid you in capturing her. What happens to her after, is up to us. Think of it as collateral,” he reminded Niles of the deal they had struck before their meeting earlier.
“I didn’t think you would force her to join the Scouts. Are you insane?” It was a question Erwin had heard many times before.
“She’s just another calculated risk,” —he explained, before turning to his Captain— “Levi, take her to where she’ll be staying for the next week,” you had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on, but honestly, you were just glad Erwin stepped in when he did. You didn’t fancy whatever strike was about to land on you, and didn’t want to deal with whatever trauma it would drag up from your less than agreeable past. You didn’t have nearly enough time to unpack Levi’s own movements.
“Tch, why me? Why not Four Eyes?” his eyes slid to the scientist, who seemed to be engaged in an increasingly elaborate conversation with that poor, poor soldier. Even you felt a pang of pity for him.
“Because I’m afraid if I let Hange take her, she’ll end up in her lab rather than the cell,” Erwin sighed tiredly, looking at Levi with almost pleading eyes as the conversation behind him got louder and louder.
“Fine. But you owe me,” he responded, before tugging you away with him. You were almost sorry when you no longer felt the warmth of the sun on your back as he led you inside.
It was a walk full of disgusted glares and crude remarks. Clearly everyone had heard who you were by now, if that wasn’t evident by the snarls of “Bitch” and “Underground rat.” It didn’t really phase you. What these people thought about you was their issue, not yours. Though, you wouldn’t mind beating every single one of them within an inch of their lives given half the chance.
You failed to notice Levi’s ever darkening expression behind you. The glares promising a painful death thrown in every direction. The way a muscle flickered in his jaw at every passing comment. It was only until the hallway was empty did he feel that tension ease a little.
“Down here,” Levi instructed, leading you down a narrow staircase. As if you could go anywhere else.
“Yeah, no shit,” you snapped, earning you a harsh shoved down a few stairs.
“Don’t get smart with me.”
“Why? Afraid you won’t understand me?” that feigned sweetness to your tone was one you had perfected over the years he was gone, and was possibly your favourite form of sarcasm. He clearly didn’t dain your retort worthy of a response, the only sound to be heard being the echoing of your boots against the stone. It reeked of damp and rust, a different stench to the filth of the Underground. Speaking of which…
“You’re disgusting,” a flatly delivered insult was thrown your way as Levi guided you into one of the cells.
“I’m so sorry, I forgot to have a shower before you ambushed us. I’ll be sure to remember next time so I can smell like a fresh forest. I’m sure it would be a more homely smell for you,” you couldn’t help the sarcastic remarks that flew from your mouth. But you fell silent as he began removing your manacles. Instantly a plan formulated in your head. This could be your only chance at escaping. You just had to wait for the right moment.
As soon as the chains were removed from your wrists, you thrust your head backwards, in hope of catching his face. But you were met with nothing but air, and the sounds of quick footsteps behind you.
“You’re even easier to predict now you’re in a cell. Don’t try stupid shit like that,” did he forget how to change the emotion in his voice? He was never the most emotional person you’d met, but he would at least sometimes change his voice from ‘bored’ to ‘slightly irritated’. You were starting to wonder what else he had forgotten during his time here when the iron bar door to your cell was slammed shut, the key clicking in the lock. Now you were certain you couldn’t escape, you took in your living space for the next week. The bare minimum had been provided. A bed with no bed clothes, a rustic sink you weren’t even sure worked, and a broken mirror. Great.
The scraping of a chair behind you piqued your curiosity, turning you head to see Levi had taken a seat in front of your cell door, elbows resting on his knees.
“The fuck are you doing?” you asked, rising from your knees to turn and lean against the wall, arms folded.
“Waiting,” god damn his single word responses. You huff in frustration.
“Waiting for what?”
“You.”
“I could strangle you with my bare hands and feel absolutely nothing right now.”
“You’d have to escape first.”
“What makes you think I can’t?”
“What makes you think you can?”
As much as you hated to admit it, he was right. There didn’t seem to be any way you could escape these walls, you’d already done a quick run down. Threading your hands through your hair in irritation, you cross to sit on the pathetic material they thought was a bed.
“So?” you ask, still no closing to knowing what the hell he wanted. Once again, he didn’t deem your question worthy of a vocal response, opting instead to raise a thin eyebrow. You briefly fantasise about driving one of your long lost daggers into his goddamn eye, before simply brushing it off with a roll of your eyes. “Fine. Stay there and stare at me. It’s your time you're wasting,” you shrugged, flopping back onto the bed, arms thrown out either side of you.
“What have you been up to?” you couldn’t help the bark of sour laughter at the question.
“Seriously?”
“What?”
“After all this time, the first thing you ask me is what I’ve been up to?”
“Would you prefer me to ask you something else?”
“What’s on the menu?”
For a moment, it almost felt like no time had passed since you’d last seen each other. It felt like only yesterday did he have you in his arms, curled up in his bed, gently running his hands over your exposed waist, revelling in how soft your skin was against his.
Running a hand through his dark locks to bring himself out of his thoughts, he changed the trajectory of his questioning.
“Who taught you to fight like that?
“Self-taught.”
“Bullshit,” you winced at his response, raising your head slightly to stare at him, wondering who gave him the audacity to doubt you.
“Oh yeah? Not all of us had the advantage of stupidly strong genes, shortstuff,” shit, you hadn’t said that nickname in a long, long time. Clearly he hadn’t heard it for a long time either, judging by the way his eyes widened his body stilled. Neither of you were able to comment on the irony of the name, considering you were just as vertically challenged. Managing to shake yourself from your daze first, you realised that was a lot for both of you. “Sorry,” you murmured, averting your gaze.
“No, it’s… fine,” there was no malice in his voice. No hatred, a surprise that caused you to turn your head back to face him. Levi cleared his throat before continuing. “How’d you get that scar?” the second question caught you off guard, not expecting anything so personal so quickly. Naturally, you responded with something sarcastic.
“Tea party gone wrong,” an irritated sigh echoed off the dank walls, clearly not satisfied with your answer.
“What happened to you, Raven...?” if it wasn’t for the acoustics of the room, you would have missed the comment, but your heart clenched painfully as the third question reached your ears.
“You left, so I moved on,” you didn’t mean to sound so small or vulnerable. You didn’t mean to drag your knees up to your chest and clasp your arms around them. You didn’t mean to turn your head again, avoiding his gaze.
Levi mentally begged you not to look that way. He’d never seen you so insecure. And that itself broke his resolve.
Standing from his chair, Levi crossed the small space to the barred doors, not thinking twice about unlocking it and leaving the key in the lock. His body was almost acting on a it’s own. Years of taking you into his arms and holding you suddenly came back to him and he wanted nothing more than to take you in his arms once again.
But he hesitated.
You both did.
After raising your head to look at him, you watched as he stopped in the centre of your cell. Almost as if he was silently asking for some sort of permission to just do something.
You shifted slightly so you were leaning against the iron bars rather than the stone wall to the back, Levi taking this as the silent permission he needed to take a seat next to you.
Shit, the instinct to throw yourself into his arms was almost overwhelming, but you refrained, not wanting that kernel of hope to smoulder into nothing when he rejected you.
Levi was the first to break the silence.
“Hey.”
“Hey,” you responded, looking up to him between the loose, mangled strands of hair now obscuring your face just a bit. Age had been kind to him. His features, now much more defined. He was still the same man you knew back then, but this one was more chiseled. You looked away when his eyes found yours.
“You look like shit.”
“I feel like shit.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
It wasn’t the exchange you were expecting, this quick back and forth, but you wouldn’t say it was unwelcome. A familiar warmth started to spread in your chest.
“How’s the jaw?” you asked, eyes wandering to the now hefty bruise against his pale, soft skin. You remembered when you used to leave marks of similar colour all over his body. His neck, collarbones, abdomen, thighs…
“‘S’fine. How’s the chin?” his own eyes slid back to you, silver irises scanning your face briefly.
“Yeah. Fine,” you let the silence settle for a moment, before breaking it again. “Sorry I kicked you,” Levi grunted in quiet amusement.
“It was a damn good plan. Sorry I knee’d you,” it was only when he heard your gentle chuckle did he realise just how much he’d missed you. Every fibre in his body was begging him to roughly tug you into his body. To cup your face in his hands and seal your lips with a burning kiss. But all that changed when he shifted slightly and you flinched at the sudden movement. He stilled, waiting for you to relax again before he too settled back down.
“You knew her, didn’t you?” it was a rhetorical question. Your reaction after the reveal told him everything. Not only did you know her, but she was somebody close to you.
You stayed silent for a couple moments, not really knowing how to respond to his shift in conversation. You decided to match it.
“Yeah. I did,” you wouldn’t tell him. Not unless he asked. You wouldn’t tell him who she was to you. What she was to you. That still fucking hurt like hell.
“‘M’sorry.”
“You say that a lot,”
“You’re one to talk,”
You didn’t even try to quell your small laugh, letting it echo off the stone walls. Even Levi couldn’t stop a small chuckle at your amusement, feeling himself completely at ease in your presence.
“Did you really move on?” it was his turn to feel small. His turn to feel a little vulnerable. He couldn’t bear the thought of you just moving on from what the two of you had. Just throwing it all in the past and leaving it there.
“Yes and no.”
“The hell does that mean?”
You sighed, tightening your grip around your knees. You hoped this wouldn’t be as painful for him to hear as it would be for you to say, but you didn’t hold out much hope.
“Yes, I moved on. I’m not the same girl I was. Trust me on that. I’m not the same girl you fell in love with, nor the girl who fell in love with you,” you had to take a breath, suddenly finding the air down here far too thick. “She wouldn’t have survived down there. That girl would have been killed by some pig the moment you left. So... I killed her myself. You already know I’ve been part of The Nest for a while, but I wasn’t really one of them, if you get what I mean. I didn’t stay with them, I didn’t eat with them. Sure, Viper took me in after my—“ you stopped, burying that can of worms before you even opened it. That wasn’t something you wanted to bring up right now. “Viper took me in, taught me a few things, but I stayed with you. I didn’t have to be one of them when I was with you. But when you left… I didn’t exactly have a choice. I couldn’t be so naive anymore. I couldn’t be so hopeful. I had to be realistic, and to be realistic, I had to hurt a lot of people. I had to see a lot of things,” you allowed the weight of your words to settle before you continued. “But that girl. That girl you knew. She never stopped loving you. Up til the moment she drew her last breath and I took over. She loved you. But I moved on,” you fell silent, realising that yes, this had been just as painful for him to hear as it was for you to say.
It was a long while before Levi spoke again, nowhere near as confident as he was.
“That’s who she was to you,” just as he thought seeing you again couldn’t get anymore painful. Just as he thought your words couldn’t get anymore painful. “You loved her?”
“Yes, but not completely. Part of me was still devoted to you. I think that’s why she did what she did. Scarlett was never a spiteful person, but she did hold one hell of a grudge against you. And I suppose, in a way, me,” the silence was so thick you thought you could cut it with one of your blades.
“She’s still there.”
“Hm?”
“That girl. She’s still there. You’re still in there.”
“Now look who’s being naïve,”
“You’re trying to tell me this new, supposedly ruthless killer would kick the shit out of some soldiers for hurting a kid. You’re trying to tell me this new cold hearted thief would bring medicine to an elderly woman and her son?”
“I—”
“You’re telling me this new, heartless little dealer would earn the respect and thanks of thousands of Underground rats? Because to me, that sounds like bullshit… (Y/N),” he wouldn’t accept it. You weren’t gone, he could see it in your actions. You were still there. His (Y/N) was still in there.
Hearing your name in his low, warm tone after all this time sent a jolt through your system. And when he turned to look at you, he could see silver lining your eyes. It took everything in him not to reach up and gently wipe them away.
“I’m not going to stop until you see what I see. I’m not going to let you think you’ve become this heartless, mindless killer just because you had to adapt. Because you had to survive. I’ve finally found you again. Do you know how long I searched for you? How many hours I spent tracing every single path I knew you would take. Asking every filthy mongrel I could find. Most of them said you were dead. Some of them said you were missing and hadn’t been seen in months. Years, even. But until I found a body, or some kind of proof you were dead, I couldn’t accept it,” well this certainly caught you off guard. Levi was never one for long, heartfelt speeches, or verbal communication at all, actually. So this was a little overwhelming. Two tears slipped down your cheeks, sliding through the sudden cracks in your defenses and leaving a trail through the thin layer of grime and dirt.
Levi kept his eyes trained ahead, knowing that if he saw you crying, his restraint would break and he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from holding you. But he knew he couldn’t. From the way you’d reacted to his small movements, he knew suddenly tugging you into him would scare you.
“I’m sorry,” your small voice wrapped around his fragile heart, both settling it and cracking it. He went to extend his hand towards you with the intention of smoothing down your hair, but the way you winced, almost anticipating something much more intense, made him stop. Shit, you really did look like a husk of your former self. He remembered the way your eyes used to glint even in the low lighting of the Underground.
“You should rest,” it was an appealing enough suggestion. Enough to draw a barely concealed yawn from you. Leaning your head against the iron bars behind you, you swore you could have fallen asleep there and then. Comforted by his presence.
You immediately missed his presence as soon as he stood, tempted to reach out for his hand but not wanting to push him away.
As if he felt your confliction, Levi stopped to turn back to you.
“I’ll be back in the morning. Rest, (Y/N),” it wasn’t like you could disobey when your mind and body was so eager to sleep.
“Fuck…” you muttered, running a hand down the side of your face, exhaustion hitting you like a punch to the gut. This wasn’t exactly how you saw your day going today, but you couldn’t exactly say you weren’t thankful. You didn’t know what you were, honestly. So much had happened, you knew you would need time to process everything.
The screech of metal against metal alerted you to the key once again locking you within the cell. Dipping your head, you watched the dark haired man return the keychain to a small nail in the wall.
“Hey…” Levi turned to you as you called out, his expression as soft as it was a few moments ago. “It’s really good to see you again,” a thousand butterflies suddenly exploded in his stomach. How long had he been waiting to hear those words? And suddenly, he found himself unable to reply.
“Tch, go to sleep, Raven,” he reveled in your amused hum as he turned on his heel, leaving you to recover after today.
꧁ꨄ꧂
Levi ran a hand through his hair. Sitting at his desk in his orderly kept office, he could barely focus on the reports in front of him. That haunted look in your eyes had left a significant mark on him. The way you now spoke was so different to the bubbly younger girl he knew.
With a shake of his head, he attempted to divert his attention back to the account of the mission today. You’d taken down a few of his men yourself, he recalled watching your blades find purchase in his makeshift squad. A few others hadn’t returned from where they’d chased your Shadows. Actually, most others didn’t return.
As predicted, it was a bloodbath.
Leaning forward, he reached for his tea, continuing to scan over the document until his eyes settled on your alias, and he couldn’t help but wonder why you hadn’t told anyone your name. It prompted a memory he wasn’t expecting. He’d tried so many times to bury his past. Thinking about it saved him from thinking about his lost friends. But it was unavoidable.
“Hey! ‘Re’ya gonna buy anything? Or you just gonna keep staring?” Levi peaked out from behind the legs of a taller man, peering at the young girl who seemed to be giving his father figure sass. He couldn’t understand it. Didn’t she know who he was? She didn’t look much older than him. Maybe eight? Nine even?
“Listen little missy, I don’t think you wan’ to rush me,” the southern lilt of Kenny’s dangerously low voice didn’t seem to deter the little merchant. Levi’s eyes widened as she folded her arms, her grubby face creasing as she frowned. For someone so young, she certainly had an impressive glare.
“Or what? You gonna kill me? I sell to the whole street, mister. You kill me, they starve,” Wow, she really seemed to have this whole thing going for her. Levi looked up at Kenny, able to just make out the subtle smile under the shadow of his hat.
“What’s your name, little girl?
“Hmph. What’s it to you?” she retorted, stepping closer. It was only then she seemed to notice his presence. Her glare seemed to soften almost instantly, head tilting in sheer curiosity. Her sparkling, (E/C) eyes widened upon seeing him there. He only occupied a fraction of her attention, before it returned to Kenny, that scowl also returning.
“You’ve got guts kid, I’ll give you that. But maybe that’s simply cuz you don’t know who I am,” he mused, picking up one of the loaves of bread you were currently selling. They weren’t fresh. Nothing ever was. But it was the best your family had to offer.
“Kenny the Ripper, right? Yeah, I’ve heard of you. Seen your ugly face in the newspaper when those shits up top toss their trash through the grates. And you better buy that now your filthy hands have been all over it,” Levi couldn’t tell if this girl was brave or stupid. He’d never heard anyone speak to Kenny like that and actually get away with it.
“(Y/N) (L/N)! Watch your language young lady! And what have I told you about mouthing off to customers?!” her face quickly morphed from a glare to something he could only describe as sheepish. An older woman leaning out from the door behind you. Her hair colour was different to yours, but those eyes… they were your eyes.
“But Maaaaa, I was just—“
“No buts. Inside, now,” her voice was stern, but Levi was perceptive from a young age. He could see the softness in her eyes as the girl pouted. Turning back, he watched her send a cheery wave goodbye in his direction, pausing slightly as it wasn’t returned. Her brows furrowed, before she darted inside.
“Quite the brat you got there,” Kenny remarked, handing over a coin in payment for the bread he’d picked up.
“Yeah, sorry about her. Pain in my ass but her heart’s in the right place. I hope,” Levi wasn’t really paying attention to the conversation, too distracted by watching the same girl clamber out the open window and onto the ledge above. Only using her right hand to climb, she paused, as if calculating something before shimmying along the wall, round the corner and out of sight. Before Levi even had time to question what the hell he’d just witnessed, her head popped round the corner, eyes searching for him. He raised his brows in question when she gestured for him, whipping back round the corner. Seeing Kenny still caught up in conversation, he quietly left the two adults, heading for the narrow alleyway she’d just ducked into.
“Hey,” the whisper made him whirl, stopping to see her cautiously step from the shadows near the wall. “You looked hungry, so I stole this from our stocks,” it became apparent as to why she was only using one hand to climb when she presented another, slightly smaller loaf of bread. It wasn’t as stale as the ones on the stall. “We got fresh ingredients yesterday. My father’s a baker but we only sell the stale ones because we wouldn’t be able to keep up with the demand for fresh bread,” she explained quietly, her eyes wide in earnest. If it wasn’t for his ravenous hunger, Levi would have declined the offer. However, the smell was too good to pass up on. Slowly, he reached for it, half expecting her to snatch it back. But her honest expression remained, only retracting her hand after he’d taken a bite. “Don’t talk much, do you? That’s okay, I get a lot of people who are shy.”
Crossing her legs, she lowered herself to the floor, resting her back against the wall to what he could only assume was her house. He followed suit, sitting opposite her in the damp alleyway.
“Your dad’s an asshole, by the way. Very obkonshus,” Levi assumed she was trying to say obnoxious, but didn’t correct her. He almost found it endearing.
“He’s not my dad,” his blunt response had her head whipping back to look at him, almost in disbelief that he had actually spoken. A small blush blossomed across her cheeks at her mistake.
“O-oh. Sorry. I didn’t know,” an awkward silence settled over them, before she spoke up again. “Your not-dad’s an asshole,” Levi glanced at her, noting her cheeky smirk. His own lips twitched in amusement. She wasn’t wrong. Kenny was an asshole.
They stayed there until he’d finished his bread, (Y/N) simply talking about everything and nothing.
“Where’d that little rat scurry away to?” Kenny’s drawl interrupted your little conversation, prompting the both of you to shoot to your feet. The girl shot him a worried look, not knowing how this was going to play out. Levi was never one to offer reassurance, never really needing to, until now. He tried his hand at a reassuring expression, before stepping out the alleyway a little.
“Here, I was just—” he looked back to the narrow street where she just was, only to find she’d completely disappeared. His eyes widened ever so slightly, attempting to peer further down the alley. How had she done that? She was right there. Maybe you’d already started your climb? His eyes travelled up the side of the wall, but found nothing.
“The fuck are you lookin’ at brat? C’mon, we’re leavin’,'' Kenny strode past him, roughly tugging him along. But Levi wasn’t looking where he was going, silver eyes still glued to that alley, waiting for her to emerge. But she never did.
A harsh knock on his door snapped him out of his memory spiral. How long had he been sitting here? Usually he had a good grasp on time but right now it could have been four in the morning or two in the afternoon. Running a hand down the side of his face, he went to sip his tea, grimacing as the now cold liquid graced his tongue. Setting it down almost immediately, he would have forgotten anyone knocked on his door in the first place had they not knocked again.
“Levi? Are you in there?” Erwin. Great.
“The fuck do you want Eyebrows?” Erwin clearly took that as permission to enter. Not that he needed permission.
Levi raised his eyes as his Commander strode in, pushing the door closed behind him.
“I was wondering if you managed to get information out of our little criminal.”
Levi’s jaw flexed.
“No.”
“Nothing?” Erwin seemed a little surprised and Levi couldn’t for the life of him think why. He didn’t know about your relationship, and it wasn’t like he was well practiced in his social skills.
“Nothing. She’s refusing to say anything other than annoying, sarcastic quips.”
“You two aren’t so different then.”
“Oi,” Erwin chuckled at Levi’s low warning, holding up an apologetic hand.
“Apologies, forgive me. It was just a joke,” Levi rolled his eyes, clicking his tongue as Erwin took a seat on the leather sofa, crossing an ankle over his knee. “I’m surprised. I thought you two may get along. Considering your shared upbringing,” if he wasn’t talking to Levi, anyone else would have thought it was an innocent enough assumption. But over the years, Levi had learned Erwin’s tells, and knew when there was something deeper going on. But still, there was no way he could know about your literal shared past.
“She’s abrasive, rude, cocky and thoroughly unpleasant. Why on earth would we get along?” Levi knew he was lying through his teeth. Whilst yes, you were in fact abrasive, cocky and rude, you were far from unpleasant. He wouldn’t have shared his heart with you if you were.
Erwin pinched the bridge of his nose. Suddenly he looked incredibly tired, like he hadn’t slept in weeks.
“Did you know her? From your time down there. Did you two ever run into each other?” straight to the point, it seemed. Erwin hadn’t missed the Captain’s flash of recognition back when you’d taken your mask off. He hadn’t missed the way he froze to the spot.
But Levi wasn’t about to open up to anyone, especially not the same Commander that had dragged him kicking and screaming into the Scouts.
Truth be told, after that first interaction, Levi had tried his damndest to see you again at every opportunity. He’d never been shown that sort of kindness since his mother died, and he didn’t want your little spark to be snuffed out by the Underground. He didn’t speak to you very often, only silently offering to walk you home at night, warding off any unwanted attention a young woman would draw.
He offered to share his small home with you when you were both around fourteen. It had been two years since Kenny abandoned him, and he noticed you looked directionless, and though it had taken a while for you to open up, he was happy for you to stay with him until you found somewhere else.
He just never expected to fall in love with you, or for you to fall in love with him.
“No. I’ve never seen her before,” Levi lied, keeping his eyes trained on the same document he must have been staring at for the last god knows how long, too lost in his own mind to concentrate.
Erwin wasn’t quite as good at reading Levi, and so accepted that as his truthful answer.
“Very well, I bid you a good night, Captain,” ah. So it was nighttime. Noted.
“Yeah yeah, see you tomorrow,” Levi waved his hand dismissively, once again earning another chuckle from Erwin as the door was pulled shut.
Levi almost instinctively reached for his tea again, only just remembering it was stone cold. He sighed in irritation, rising from his chair. He didn’t think there was enough tea in the world to help him sort through his thoughts. But damn if it didn’t make it easier.
Rolling his now stiff shoulders, he picked up the cold brew and headed to the kitchen. It was going to be a long night.
꧁ꨄ꧂
Sleeping in the Underground City was a luxury. Despite your exhaustion, sleep didn’t come easily. You assumed you must have dozed off for an hour at least before the faint sound of multiple footsteps had you sitting bolt upright, your muscles barking in protest. You were always aware of your surroundings. Always ready, even when you may look like you were resting.
You didn’t quite know what to expect, quickly running through several scenarios and possibilities in your head. One of those possibilities rounded the corner from the stairs. Four MP soldiers now stood outside your cell, one jiggling the keys into the lock. Immediately you stood, not going down without a fight. Though it wasn’t much of one. Before you had even landed a proper blow on any of them, you were harshly kicked to the floor. Your body having not woken up properly yet, you were easy enough to subdue as they clasped your wrists together in front of you with rope. Not what you were expecting but it was more comfortable than behind your back.
You stayed silent as they dragged you further deeper into the complex of jails and cells. You didn’t imagine they would span this far beneath what you assumed was the headquarters, but nonetheless you kept walking until you were faced with a wooden door. The same soldier fiddled with the lock until it swung open and you were kicked inside.
Raising your head, you saw the room wasn’t exactly empty. An array of bats and blunt trauma objects rested against the far side of the wall, but that wasn’t what threw the spear of terror into your heart.
A single, iron hook extended down from the ceiling. It looked like it would be used for bleeding or drying meat, but you could think of several other uses for it. For example, your current situation.
The door locking behind you had your head whirling, eyes darting from the man with the key to the wood that now trapped you inside.
“Ah, Raven. I’m sure our commander forewarned you about this, I don’t really know why you look so surprised,” you shivered at the fake pleasant tone, a stark contrast to the way you were now being tugged to your feet, arms thrown up above you. You realise now why they used rope instead of chains, your wrists being hooked up above you. Your feet now only just grazing the floor, head falling between your shoulders with your loose thin shirt riding up your stomach. You suddenly regretted shedding your leather jacket earlier, wanting to be a little more comfortable as you attempted to sleep.
“We have strict instructions not to permanently damage you, however we have various other methods,” one of your torturers stalked behind you, reaching up to twist the hook so you spun with him, now facing the wall of weaponry. The other three who had accompanied you all leant against the wall to you right, as if waiting for their turn. “I thought I would be kind enough to let you choose which we start with. Since you’d be the one on the receiving end,” the sick fuck. He was really enjoying this wasn’t he?
“At least tell me what you fucking want,” you spat, thrashing slightly in your bonds. The man simply laughed, crossing to the selection.
“Oh, we don’t want information. Just for you to suffer as much pain as we did when you killed our comrades,” ah, so they had personal connections. Understood.
“I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” your crooked, satisfied grin faltered as his expression darkened, crossing the room towards you in a few strides. Roughly grabbing your chin, he forced your head up to meet his gaze as you writhed in his tight grip.
“You know, you were quite the formidable criminal down there. Slaughtering and murdering whoever you pleased. Harming those who had done nothing to you. But look at you now, strung up like a squealing pig. Fuck, if it isn’t satisfying to see,” he threw your head back down before driving his foot into your gut. The impact sent you swinging backwards, saliva flying from your mouth.
Raising your eyes, you shot him a visceral glare as he browsed his collection of weapons as if he was picking out a pastry at a bakery. Opting for the classic wooden bat, you braced yourself for the night to come, knowing it was going to be a long one.

hoax - chapter two
Michael Langdon x Mallory
Summary: Mallory tries her best to put her feelings aside and to tolerate Michael; however she finds that she gets tested in other ways that aren’t so easily predictable..
Words: 6.3k+
Warnings: more death and general mentions of it.. sorry lmao, angst, blood, manipulation, unhealthy relationships, mentions of satan and satanism, slowburn, plot heavy, enemies to lovers, also reminder that this is a dark fic so.. it’s just generally not that happy of a story lol
A/N: Hey guys! Sorry if this seems random since we just got new cody content and a new character but I thought I would just upload this anyway since it’s finished 👉🏻👈🏻. But this is also the longest thing I’ve ever written.. like ever so hopefully y’all like it haha. Also fyi; Michaels and Mallorys POV switches quite a bit throughout this chapter lol.
Previous Chapter
Michael watched Mallory intently. Looking as she continued to be lost in thought. Her gaze fixated downwards at her black boots, which twitched slightly as she continued to most likely debate whether he was worth it or not… to say yes or no..
Michael swallowed, wishing he could do something to make her say yes, to maybe offer something but after all; he had absolutely nothing. Even Michael by himself seemed to be too much of a burden on its own, to Mallory.
He let out a dry cough; hoping to bring her back to reality, back to him.
Mallory’s head snapped up - brown eyes looking up at him curiously.. as if she really did forget that he was still waiting for a response or some type of agreement. She tried her best to relax her shoulders as well as her mind before speaking. Trying to silently convince herself to not snap at him, no matter how much she still truly wanted too. However, looking at him made that far more easier..
Michaels words; the pleading and begging that Mallory was almost convinced would never stop.. The pure desperation and urgency only really reflected onto his appearance. Sandy blonde hair that nearly looked brown due to the disgusting amount of dirt in it.. clothes that were still horribly stained and nearly doused with blood made him look hardly short of intimidating anymore, but the urge to yell at him still didn’t wane.
Anger still stayed present in Mallory’s chest, but it was starting to become something she couldn’t just ignore anymore.. it flowed through her veins, hot and fresh. It made her skin warm and her cheeks flush cherry red. Something she was typically insecure about but she really didn’t have the time or patience to try and hide it.. she doubted Michael realistically was even paying close enough attention to notice anyways.
“Fine,” Mallory finally answered. Her voice was soft and low which was merely a result of her biting her anger back - something she still desperately wanted to show but knew realistically would get her no where with him.
She tried her best to avoid Michaels gaze which still stayed solely focused on her figure. He seemed almost taken aback by her words, as if he was expecting to be further yelled at.. which wasn’t exactly a wrong assumption. The only reason Mallory found it in her to be nice was merely sympathy. After all they both had a long day - it wasn’t just her discomfort she had to take into consideration anymore.
“Do you trust me?”
The words almost felt impulsive to say but she didn’t regret saying them - after all; if they were really going to be sticking around by each other for a while then.. it was a valid question.
Mallory knew realistically what he was going to say and she tried to brace herself as she saw his mouth open hesitantly.
“I feel like I should.. why?” He asked in a tone which sounded purely dismissive and a bit annoyed.
Mallory wanted to smile, she wanted to grin and laugh that she was finally starting to get what she wanted but.. she did neither of those things. Instead she found herself immeadietly distrusting him.. wanting to know why on earth she would ever think to trust his words for a second when she literally killed him in the past.. and that’s not counting the other times where she attempted to do so or even thought doing it but; this Michael didn’t know that. This Michael barely even knew her name, let alone anything else about her but that didn’t matter to him - and she couldn’t help but to be a bit relieved at that feeling of finally being able to be free from her past.
Atleast for the time being.
“I need to go somewhere but I can’t go alone.. I think it would be good if you went too.”
Michaels brows furrowed at this; his face almost upturning in a sneer. “Where?”
Mallory took in a deep breath but didn’t exhale at first.. feeling irritated that he just had to keep asking questions that she didn’t have the answer too.
“I’ll tell you later, when we get closer, okay? But we need to go before the sun sets,” she explained.
Mallory hoped desperately that what she said would be enough reason for Michael to go along with her.. but thankfully it seemed to be. Or he seemed convinced for the most part, anyway.
“What happens before the sun sets?” He asked.
His blue eyes glared into hers - as if he was trying to get a read on her.. just like how he used too at the outpost.
Mallory’s throat suddenly grew dry at this realization.. Feeling incredibly uncomfortable at how he looked at her, and his question. Not necessarily knowing what to do about either situations but - she hoped for a second he would retract his words or rephrase but he didn’t.
He still waited.
“That doesn’t matter, we just need to get going. You said you trusted me right?” Mallory reaffirmed.
Her face was mostly expressionless as she watched Michael solemnly nod in response.
“Yeah.. sure. I trust you.”
His sentence cut off almost abruptly; as if he wanted to keep talking but knew that Mallory wouldn’t have the patience to hear him out - or that she simply didn’t want too.
Michael couldn’t really pinpoint exactly how he felt around Mallory. Every time she met his gaze he couldn’t help but to be overtaken briefly by far too many emotions than he could count. It mainly was a fight over feeling intimidated and being in awe. Even though Mallory hadn’t really let her powers show since she basically assaulted him earlier; he knew to keep his distance now.. to a degree.
He approached her now; feeling a little less intimated than he was before since she seemed to be acting civil.
Michael couldn’t help but to blame her behavior on himself; maybe he was too straight forward.. maybe it was him who was the true freak in this situation.. It wouldn’t exactly be the first time that he found himself in a situation like this, another situation that was surely his fault.
God.. why was he such a fuck up??
The closer he approached.. Mallory.. she said her name was right?? He felt almost sick to his stomach when he saw the look in her eyes when she finally bothered to look up at him. Her eyes (which he remembered were a golden honey brown when she stood directly in the sun) were nearly black now.. maybe it was the fact that the sun was finally dipping behind the trees.. or.. something else? Annoyance was really the only emotion he could read from her at the moment - the rest of her face was even harder to read. He guessed she was trying to remain expressionless on purpose.
Mallory was the first one to start walking - and Michael let her lead. She seemed to have a some kind of idea on where she was going since she had claimed she said a destination in mind, or somewhere for them to go.
Hopefully that wasn’t a lie.
Mallory didn’t look back once as Michael continued to walk directly behind her once the path she had chosen to walk on had thinned down to a trail. The sound of his footsteps were good enough proof that he hadn’t wandered off or turned around. She didn’t want to necessarily look at him longer than what she had too - she was more than certain that he still wore that kicked puppy look he had earlier. It was pathetic and painful.. and only a sharp reminder of why things currently were the way they were. Why she was here; still in the forest with twigs and leaves snapping onto her overly expensive dress which now had to be ruined.. (as if it wasn’t already from Michaels death fiasco’s) and not back at Robichaux.. with the witches where she belonged. Even if none of them necessarily knew her anymore.
Mallory belonged with other witches, her sisters. People that actually understood her and gave a fuck - not.. whatever she could even call Michael now. Who was not quite human but probably not the antichrist now, either.
That was just something else that Mallory would have to do and figure out on her own but, this wasn’t something that was meant to be done solo - she knew that deep down.
Michael was following her diligently and actually listening now for a reason, she came to the forest for a reason, and as much as she tried her best to avoid thinking about it; she also talked to satan for a reason.. And even though he was mostly a manipulative asshole- no.. not mostly. That’s exactly what he was. Michael was also proof of that.
No matter what, her and Michael would figure it out together.. on their own or certaintly without the help of him. They didn’t need him, not again.. not now.. not ever. It didn’t matter if he apparently owned her soul or not - she still felt the same.. nothing could’ve changed that quickly. Right?
That’s what she would tell herself anyway - and there’s no way she would ever dream of telling Michael any of that shit ever happened. It’s not like he would remember anyway.
Mallory continued to keep her head down as they kept walking .. deep in thought and trying to focus on just finding their way out until she felt something soft brush up against the back of her arm..
Mallory immeadietly paused when she felt Michael touch her, looking at her arm almost awkwardly and bearing witness to how Michael was now gently gripping her.. Hoping naively that it was something that happened accidentally but of course it wasn’t. Nothing happened by coincidence with Michael.
He let go after a couple seconds of awkward eye contact.. most likely realizing that she wasn’t exactly a touchy person. Not with him anyway. Not after the kind of day they’ve been through.
“I just wanted to say that I’m sorry,” Michael said sorely.
His voice shook when he spoke.. and even though it was tempting to ask exactly why he was apologizing - she figured it didn’t necessarily matter. At this point it was the effort and the fact he even cared enough to say anything, that made her feel a bit better.
She gave a slight smile, not really wanting to say that any of this was ‘okay’ or that it was ‘fine’ because she was truly tired of lying.. it was something she lost the energy for a while ago.
“Let’s keep going. I think we’re almost there.”
Mallory turned around to keep walking - looking up and realizing that she could finally see something beyond the tree line.. something that looked like vaguely like a skyline of a city.. Was that Los Angeles??
Biting the bullet and choosing to make small talk had its perks - Michael affirmed her suspicion that they were in L.A which was really neither a good or bad thing. She definitely felt more unsettled now that she knew for a fact she was farther away from home than she would like to be.. and also scarily close to Hawthorne, and god knows what else.
It didn’t take long for the two of them to reach the city; and now that she was here.. she really didn’t know what to do next or why she had the odd instinct to walk here in the first place, but thankfully Michael seemed to know.
It was obvious that Mallory didn’t exactly have a plan, in the way that she was starting to physically stall.. her steps slowed, her fingers fidgeted a bit more and picked at her clothes, and her gaze kept falling down to her shoes.. All little, minuscule things but Michael picked up on them all.
He didn’t bother to ask outloud if she knew where she was going. Instead he took the lead.. walking in front of Mallory suddenly and only briefly pausing to turn into a dark alleyway. Something that seemed entirely random but honestly wasn’t. He had a feeling, an urge that they were meant to go this way.. something was waiting for them both.
Michael only looked back to make eye contact for a brief moment; hoping that just for once Mallory would trust him.. but as he looked back into her dark brown eyes which still abnormally almost appeared black - she was still reluctant. He wasn’t necessarily thinking when he reached out to grab her hand. Something he knew that she would hate but he couldn’t help it. Physical touch felt nice, and her hands were soft..
They still were.
He still held onto her hand as he gently pulled and tried to lead her into where he was going - frowning slightly when he felt her grip loosen but he continued to keep walking into the alleyway. He kept going, nearly stumbling on the garbage and various shit that was left on the ground.. but he managed to find a door that was left slightly ajar.. just enough for him and Mallory to slip through.
Michael quietly opened the door further; the room that they suddenly found themselves in was barely lit. A dark, dim, red light was omitted along with several small candles but other than that, the room was kept blanketed in a thick darkness. Both physically and emotionally.
As soon as Mallory entered what she now knew had to be some kind of church.. she felt almost as if she had been punched in the stomach. She noticibly winced, physically withdrawing from Michael and reflexively pulling her hand back even further than she had previously but he wouldn’t let her hand go. Not completely.
The nausea and just the sudden heavy energy she felt made the rest of her body tense up.. and she found herself sort of being thankful that Michael still held onto her and seemed to be leading her to a seat.. but the gratitude she felt only lasted for barely a second. Just until she could actually take a deep breath and focus..
Where exactly were they?
It was clear as day that they happened to be in a church.. but no.
No.
Something was wrong. Something wasn’t right.
This wasn’t a normal church, nothing about this seemed normal in the slightest - the dark red interior and dim lighting, the candles, the late timing of the service and just.. what everyone happened to be wearing seemed horribly wrong.
Just like earlier, and so many times before today she felt herself starting to submit to panic. Her breath quickening and her skin started to grow incredibly hot.. she felt as if she was suffocating from the inside out but she felt foolish for feeling this way as she looked at Michael, as well as everyone else.. they all appeared nonchalant and completely unbothered. Particularly Michael, who didn’t look upset but instead almost caught in a trance listening to the high priestess of the church talk.
Mallory didn’t even notice the woman was talking until she finally bothered to make eye contact. Whom of which walked straight down the isle way that divided the two rows of benches apart; her blonde curls slightly moving as she spoke and moved. She continued to slowly pace up and down, speaking about.. exactly what Mallory had feared.
Fucking exactly what Mallory was trying to avoid.
The immeadite gut reaction to stand up and leave was nearly impossible to resist; and that would be incredibly easy to do given that they were sitting in a otherwise empty back row. But.. instead she didn’t move. She sat still. Barely moving, barely breathing but merely watching and listening.
Now that Mallory actually bothered to listen; she felt completely dumbfounded that Michael was actually buying any of this shit. However, that didn’t make the words that she heard coming from the blonde woman, the leader, any easier to digest. Currently she was boasting and bragging about her sins and how ‘evil’ she was.. or something along those lines. It was still nearly impossible to focus with the feeling that still layed dormant in her gut that refused to leave.
She winced at the words she heard being spoken. Her black nails curling into the soft skin of her palm and gently digging in. Something she consciously chose to do to try to distract herself but it still wasn’t enough. She needed to know that they were atleast sort of safe here.. or that Michael had a vague idea of what he was doing.
“do you know where we are?”
Michael turned to look at Mallory slowly.. looking almost furious - his lips slightly parted as if he silently debated on how to tell her off for interrupting his focus. She waited with baited breath for him to ignore her or to say some snide remark.. only exhaling when he did neither.
“Yeah, don’t worry. We’re in good hands here,” He said. Barely speaking loud enough for Mallory to even hear.
She couldn’t help but to slightly pout, not wanting to argue anymore but not really trusting his judgement yet either. She waited for him to turn his head back to blonde ‘cult’ leader but instead it dropped down her to palm where her nails still cut in.. pressing down until the point where blood was about to be drawn.
Mallory didn’t wince or show any signs of discomfort but Michael still noticed anyway. His gaze quickly flickering down from her palm up to her eyes in pure confusion in what the fuck she was doing..
His hand quickly went to hers without a second thought.
His fingers gently pried hers off of her own hand.. She didn’t try to fight what he was doing but rather looked into his eyes in a questionable manner.. probably wondering why he bothered to touch her again. Something that he truly knew better than to do but couldn’t help from himself from.
“Stop.. Why are you doing that?” Michael asked genuinely. His gaze lingered on her fingertips which now had blood lightly indented on the tips of her nails.
Mallory looked at him awkwardly. Sort of appalled that he even cared enough to notice or to even stop her.. his kindness wasn’t necessarily unwanted but it was something new.. and strange to say the very least.
Mallory wanted to apologize or to just give him a reassuring look but instead she carefully met his gaze and found herself muttering a careful confession, “im sorry I just.. I can’t stand it here. This place-“ her voice broke horribly as she whispered.
She suddenly grew paranoid that the members of this.. ‘congregation’ could hear her sudden disdain for the establishment; which made the feelings of dread and guilt she felt only multiply. She wanted to keep apologizing or to convince Michael to leave but.. that wouldn’t work for the sole reason that she couldn’t even pinpoint exactly why she felt this way. But all she knew is that she had to say something else. Something to make Michael not stare her like how he currently was.
Mallory was still terrified to make eye contact with him. Only bothering to briefly do so to simply affirm that he was actually looking at her - and it wasn’t something she was imagining.
Reality was starting to become something Mallory nearly craved; the day still wasn’t over and yet the fact that some of the earlier events weren’t real.. was something she still needed to process.
The fact that Michael even dared to follow her here, sit next to her, and let alone even give a fuck that she was unintentionally harming herself was beyond her. She wanted to know why, but she knew she still wouldn’t trust his answer if she were to ask. He’d lie.
Mallory spoke again in a tone that was far more quiet than the last, “Where are we?”
Michaels gaze bore into hers.. his face nearly void of any expression as if he was weighing his options on the best response.. calculating and thinking but he stopped the eye contact before he spoke. His eyes went to examine his hands instead which were loosely clasped together over his knees that he slouched tiredly over.
“Somewhere I thought I could feel close to my father.. I know- you don’t want to talk about it-“
“No.. it’s fine,” Mallory reassured hurriedly. Her voice was light and high pitched - happy that Michael was finally managing to communicate and be honest with her. Even if he was inherently right, this wasn’t a topic she wanted to remember or discuss at all but if this was how she got him to open up.. then there was no other option.
“Before you ask.. no. It’s not working. I don’t feel shit here,” he admitted, his voice breaking. “All I feel is just fucking overwhelmed.”
His hands were brought up to his face and Mallory watched him deeply inhale. His finger tips rubbed his temples and fell down the sides of his cheeks - and Mallory didn’t know what to do.
Should she offer him sympathy that.. as bad as it sounded, that she didn’t necessarily really feel? Sure she could relate to him but it wasn’t in the same way in the slightest - and it wasn’t fair to either of them to pretend that it was.
“People here are beyond pathetic.. their sins,” he sneered with something that almost could’ve been considered an chuckle that followed.
Michaels hands fell down to his lap again - suddenly refusing to meet Mallory’s gaze. Perfectly intent on watching whoever the high priestess was, someone that Mallory was more than thankful that she didn’t know the name of.
“Michael.. I can’t stay here-“
He gave Mallory an apologetic look, and for a second she thought he might almost finally agree but to no avail.
“Please. Just ‘till the end,” His face reverted back to the kicked puppy look. The one that finally made her not necessarily forgive him but.. made her realize that at this point he didn’t necessarily deserve to be yelled at.
After all, he wasn’t exactly the same Michael that had planned the death of seven billion people.. not yet.
“Okay,” she quietly agreed.
So they waited until the end of the ‘ceremony’. Or Mallory waited while Michael watched and listened- looking both completely horrified and elated as he did so.. However, Mallory waited and counted each minute that passed.. every one seemingly longer the last.
Even when the blonde woman that was apparently named ‘Hannah’ finally finished talking and most members of the congregation had left; Michael still didn’t budge.
His back, instead of slouching was now pressed up against the bench as he sat.. looking for exhausted and more tired than ever. Tears (or what Mallory suspected were tears anyway) made his cheeks glisten in the dim lighting. She stared at him for a moment - wondering if she should ask if he was okay or if he needed a moment when she felt someone suddenly tug sharply on her clothing.
It was her top, a quick pinch but it was enough to make Mallory’s head turn back immeadietly.
Her resentment toward touch wasn’t just exclusive to Michael, then.
“What is this? Chanel? Loui V? Do I want to know what it took for you to take this?” Hannah spoke in a amused tone.
Hannah stood behind their bench, both equally between Mallory and Michael - like she had the intention of speaking to them both and not one or the other.
“I didn’t take this.. it was a gift,” Mallory answered truthfully and a bit.. bashfully.
She felt insulted that Hannah assumed she would ever steal but then again, with where they were, maybe that wasn’t exactly the insult that Mallory thought it was.
“Yeah.. okay. Like I’m supposed to believe that,” Hannah laughed with a snort.
Mallory was about to retort anyway, but Michael cut her off to her surprise.
“What do you want?” He asked curtly.
His words were cut short. Obviously irritated and put on edge - the fact that he still had tears left on his cheeks explained his behavior plenty.
Hannah immeadietly looked taken aback - disobedience wasn’t something she was used too.
“What do you I want? Do you even know who you’re talking too?” Hannah answered without missing a beat.
Mallory’s eyes darted to Michael. His jaw was clenched, his eyes sharp and focused and his mouth was drawn in a straight line that slightly curved downward.. he looked pissed.
Why was he bothering to argue with Hannah? Someone who he should inherently love or atleast respect with the shared connection of their love for his father.. And over something as trivial as Mallory’s dress? This wasn’t making sense..
“I think I could say the same to you,” Michael answered with a clenched jaw, standing up as his hands started to go to the left side of his face. Inevitably headed for his ‘666’ mark that Mallory heard he was rumored to have.. but certainly wouldn’t have anymore. Not after what she had done.
Michael.. couldn’t. He wouldn’t. This couldn’t happen.
It was clear he was still under the false impression that he had powers, but Mallory wasn’t going to let him find out otherwise this way. Not right now.
“Michael-“! Mallory said urgently.
It worked for a second, just long enough to make him stall.
His hands came to a stand still, pausing as his eyes watched her. Waiting for her to continue but her mouth went entirely dry once she saw Hannah’s hand quickly fly to his shoulders. Screaming words that Mallory didn’t even try to listen too - blood suddenly roaring through her ears louder than any sound that Hannah could make.
Mallory didn’t think when she suddenly felt herself stepping in front of Michael; her feet accidentally stepping onto his as she tried her best to push him back beforehand with her arm but even so - the space in between benches was minimal enough as it was.
Maybe under normal circumstances, Michaels body being pushed up directly behind hers would’ve been distracting but.. Michael was really the last thing she was thinking of now.
Mallory’s hands flew to Hannah’s shoulders - grabbing them (and feeling almost sick with herself how she had done this to Michael not too long ago) with the intention to push her back as hard as she could naturally muster up the strength too. But, of course, that didn’t happen.
Her powers came flooding out unwillingly - the sudden loss of control and ache that was rapidly being released caused her to scream.. something that almost sounded quiet with the contrast of her adrenaline still pumping full force.
Hannahs clothes suddenly sparking a bright orange didn’t cause the immeadite alarm to Mallory that it should’ve; however.. maybe it was due to the fact that the color already blended in with the red atmosphere of the church.. She could only hope.
Hannah’s clothes quickly erupted in flames - the close proximity of the fire made Mallory’s skin quickly grow uncomfortably hot. Forcing her to act on impulse. Selfish impulse.
She stumbled out from the bench and grabbed Michaels wrist clumsily, nearly dragging with him with her as they both stumbling back and away from her.
Mallory’s back was turned to Hannah.. her body shook as she hauntingly realized that the sound had stopped. Hannah wasn’t screaming anymore.. and neither was Mallory.
She couldn’t bring herself to turn around and look, only braving enough strength to look up at Michael who faced the general direction that Hannah was in.. or used to be in. She stared into his eyes and watched the reflection of the fire dance in them - not in wonder but rather pure dread and regret.
Fuck.. what the fuck?
Michaels expression was something she couldn’t really decipher.. the fact he wore a neutral face when she just.. had done something like this wasn’t going to be something she found solace in.
After all; he was still Michael Langdon.
And what she just did.. saying it was stupid wasn’t simply enough.
Forming more complex thoughts was simply impossible, she found herself stumbling away.. going the opposite direction as the room started to spin and melt into a blur of red and black. The ceiling, walls and floor quickly became indistinguishable - her legs were starting to feel weak..
Fuck!
Mallory’s vision flickered to black and her legs gave out from underneath her; but she felt someone’s arms hook underneath hers and pull her up before she could hit the floor.
Her eyes snapped open immeadietly - trying to balance herself back on her feet as quickly as she could so that Michael wouldn’t have to touch her.. still feeling entirely out of it from nearly losing consciousness.
Mallory knew immeadietly it was him without even having to look… and she hated that she was becoming familiar enough with his touch to even recognize that it was him so easily. The tempature of his skin - his palms gripping her upper arms a bit too tightly - was a dead giveaway.
She wanted him off.
Mallory stumbled forward, trying her best to appear nonchalant as she brushed his fingertips off of her arms. Trying not to look bothered by the smell that started to raid the church.. a mix of burnt flesh along with just general fire. She wanted to feel bad but if this really was a satanic temple; it probably had seen worse..
But that wasn’t the point.
Mallory’s gaze searched the walls, wanting to leave but not.. actually leave.
It was too much; she needed time alone. Time to maybe cry or to throw up until she couldn’t breath.. perhaps both, but she still didn’t want Michael to see her vulnerable. Not if she could help it.
Her hands gripped onto the sides of the benches as she passed them; stubbornly intent on walking on to the bathroom which she could now see - selfishly not giving a fuck that she would be leaving Michael but.. she deserved to be selfish for once.
After all, all her choices recently hadn’t been for her own sake.. it was for Cordelias, Madison’s, Zoe’s, The Coven, seven billion people, Michael.. but not her own. Never her own.. none of her choices were really her own lately.
Mallory tried her best to ignore the sound of footsteps following her. Pushing the door of the women’s bathroom open quickly but stopping once she heard Michael whine.
God, why was he always fucking whining?
“What the fuck was that?” He nearly hissed. His tone had no malicious intent but it still set Mallory on edge.
He looked alarmed, bewildered. Blue eyes widened and his lips slightly parted, his teeth clenched.
“What part?” She asked cynically with a dry laugh.
She met Michaels gaze for a second before fully slipping inside the bathroom - hoping Michael would get the memo to leave her alone but she paused once she didn’t hear the door shut behind her..
“Michael-“
“I know you don’t like talking to me but I’m asking you, just once. What the fuck just happened?? Did you-?” His voice quivered, breaking softly as he spoke.
Mallory was in tears, the thought and realization alone of what she did finally sinking in.
“No. No.. I-I didn’t.. that wasn’t me, okay? I would.. would never..” She spoke as a confirmation to both Michael and herself.
Her back was still turned to Michael - thankful that he couldn’t see how fucking close she was to full on sobbing.. her vision blurred by all of the tears that had gathered in her eyes that wouldn’t spill. Her throat clenched, growing tight and forcing her to stop breathing - but there was no way she was going to let herself cry in front of Michael out of all people.
Showing weakness, even now.. even when it was proven he was no longer a threat to her, was never something she would let herself do. She wouldn’t let herself become that stupid.
Pain centered itself in her chest, but the grief she felt, rapidly spread throughout her body. Consuming her until she felt herself succumbing to the feeling.
Fuck.
Mallory wanted to push past Michael and run out the door.
Mallory wanted to scream at him and tell him to get the fuck out of the women’s restroom.
It was so easy to blame him for everything she felt - but she knew better than that now. Even though it was easy; it wasn’t the right thing to do.. and it’s not really like she was used to take the easy route to things, anyway.
She didn’t exactly welcome the feeling but she gave up trying to fight it.. letting the first tear run down her cheek. She still tried her best to stifle her sobs, her throat still clenching almost painfully.. not really giving a fuck about showing weakness in this moment but more so just.. embarrassed.
Michael stared at her almost blankly - wanting to say something but he couldn’t help but to feel stuck.
He wanted to feel bad, and he did.. she was clearly hurt but he didn’t understand exactly how.. Did she feel remorse for what she did? Did she think that Hannah or whatever the fuck her name was, didn’t deserve it?
Sure he didn’t exactly know her intentions but it wasn’t anything pure.. and Mallory needed to know that.
He approached her carefully, knowing damn well that she had the capability to do the same that she had done to Hannah.. or to perhaps throw him up against the wall without even so much as laying a hand on him, but he wasn’t scared.
Mallory wasn’t intimidating.. she wouldn’t hurt him.
Her head was tilted up and her eyes watched the ceiling - avoiding eye contact. She slowly moved to the wall, leaning against it begrudgingly but still avoiding Michaels gaze. Patches of dirt and bruises decorated her arms along with some blood stains and a couple of nasty cuts. Her black dress looked like nothing special anymore. It was torn in some parts but - Michael wanted to laugh that he was critiquing her appearance in the slightest as if he had any room to talk.
He watched her carefully and curiously as he decided to stand next to her and mirror how she was standing until they were nearly shoulder to shoulder. Mallorys eyes which were previously closed suddenly opened. Darkly peering over at him and their sudden proximity, something Michael wasn’t going to apologize for this time.
“I still don’t understand you, or why you did what you did but it was completely unnecessary,” Michael said.
He felt flattered that Mallory was fond of him enough to apparently kill for him but - this wasn’t adding up. And plus, Michael still had his powers (or atleast to the best of his knowledge he did) so it’s not as if he was completely defenseless. He felt almost insulted that Mallory would assume that he needed to be protected. He wasn’t a child.
But didn’t she hate him? She could still barely make eye contact with him and resented every time they touched - something which hurt Michael a bit more than he would like to admit.. No one (except for his family, of course) had ever reacted to him like that before.. most people, espically women, practically died for his touch.
Mallory was different.
That was one thing he was certain of. Every move she made, every word that came out of her mouth was never something he could predict.. and to think he once hated unpredictability.. but he didn’t trust her. Not for one second.
“It wasn’t a choice. I-I just.. it just happened and I don’t want to talk about it,” Mallory answered sheepishly.
Michael wanted to argue but instead he merely nodded.
“That’s fine.”
Mallory looked at him almost apologetically after she heard the tone of his words; which were a bit too harsh and forced in nature.
“So.. did it work? What you came here for.. to feel closer to him-“ She asked out of sheer curiosity.
“My father?”
“Yes.”
Michael swallowed and broke eye contact. “No. I still don’t feel a fucking thing.. Do you?”
Mallory’s eyes narrowed and she shifted her weight back onto her feet, ceasing from leaning on the wall. “What?”
“My father sent you to me, so I figured naturally you would have some kind of connection with him.. you do, don’t you?”
Sneaky bastard. Mallory knew this conversation was for the sole purpose of him finding out more information about her; perhaps to better manipulate? She didn’t exactly know.
“I don’t know. That’s something I still have to figure out,” she admitted truthfully.
“Together?”
Mallory nodded.
“Yeah. I won’t leave you,” she said. Her tone a bit softer than she would have liked.
Mallorys lips started to upturn in something that was reminiscent of a smile - their eyes lingered on each other for only a second but it didn’t last.
The door suddenly was pushed open; both Mallory and Michael snapped their heads up. The sudden intrusion gaining both of their full undivided attention - fear both running abundant in their veins.
The first thing Mallory noticed was the loud clicking of high heels against the tile floor of the bathroom.. something she was sure meant nothing to Michael but.. Mallory knew better.
This wasn’t a coincidence. After the day she had - nothing was a damn coincidence anymore.
The first thing she noticed was long blonde hair.. a black, tight fitting dress along with black high heels.
It was too familiar.. she knew all too well exactly who this fucking was.
Another witch.. her sister.. someone she was far too accustomed too but also.. no.
No.
Sure the woman who just entered the bathroom was Madison Montgomery but it wasn’t her Madison. After all, why the fuck was Madison at a satanic temple?

I hate the way you’re always right
Tumblr media
Hey y’all, here’s the next part! Sorry it’s been a hot minute, but I hope you like this! Here’s a little bit of soft smut again ??? idk who knows.
As always, this is unedited and probably riddled with types so point em out, leave em be, I’ll probably edit this tomorrow once I’m out of class knowing me but hey, somethings never change.
Read the whole series:  I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair // I hate the way you drive my car // I hate it when you stare // I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind // I hate you so much it makes me sick, it even makes me rhyme // I hate the way you’re always right // I hate it when you lie // I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry // I hate it when you’re not around, and the fact that you didn’t call // But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you, not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all
_________
“You don’t know what I mean.”
“That doesn’t even make sense.”
---------------
“On a scale of one to ten, how nervous are you?” Evelina asks, throwing herself down on your bed. The sound of the springs of your mattress makes you jump, no thanks to the nerves you didn’t want to be experiencing.
You had been pacing your room for at least an hour, trying to figure out what to wear, how to do your hair and makeup, thinking about what was going to happen tonight. None of you should be nervous about going out with Matthew: the two of you go out together just the two of you all the time. You’re almost always with him when he’s in Calgary, give or take Evelina or Elias. So what about tonight was different?
Well, for starters, the last few times you’ve spent time alone together you were doing more than just hanging out. Why did you have to kiss him, or sleep with him, or fuck, even like him?
“I’ll give myself a two,” you lie to her, walking to your closet to find shoes.
She sits up, her eyebrows raised. “Babe, you’ve been walking the runway for the last hour. Gigi Hadid doesn’t strut this much but at least she gets paid for it.”
‘Fuck her for being right,’ you think to yourself. “How’s a seven sound?” You hear her scoff, before finally sitting down next to her. “Why am I nervous?” you whine.
She shrugs, shaking her head. “Because it’s Matthew.
“It’s not like Matthew’s changed, though.”
“No, but you and Matthew have. You at least finally realized you like each other, and that messes with things.”
You look down at your hands, covered with pen ink from work that day that was seemingly impossible to get off with any type of soap you had in the apartment. “What if this ruins everything?” you ask quietly, starting to feel overly emotional at the thought of losing him.
“If you do you still have me,” she jokes, clearly not helping. “Come on. It’s Matthew. You’ve always meant the world to him. There is nothing you can do that would cause you to lose him.”
“I hope you’re right,” you say, not looking at her.
She pulls you up off the bed, twirling you around so she can get a full look at the dress you were in. It was one of hers, an open-backed red halter dress that came just above your knees, paired with nude heels. Simple, but elegant enough that Matthew would spend the entire night thinking about how good you look with it both on and off. “You look amazing. What time is he picking you up?”
“He should be here any minute,” you tell her, feeling yourself start to shake at how nervous you were for this. Evelina was probably right: it’s Matthew, it’s always been Matthew, and what could possibly happen that would mean you could lose him?
The two of you leave your room, grabbing your bag and your phone on your way out. You can hear the locks of the front door turning, sending a chill down your spine knowing that it was Matthew on the other side.
“You’ll be fine,” Evelina whispers quickly as Matthew opens the door to let him in.
Assuming you were still in your room, he starts to call, “Hey, I’m-” he cuts himself off when he lays his eyes on you. He swallows hard at the sight of you trying to find anything to say other than the “Wow,” he lets out.
Seeing him calmed you down immediately. He had on a black button-down with black pants. It was simple, just like yours, but fuck did he look good. “Wow, yourself,” you tell him, pulling a laugh from his lips.
He goes in to kiss you, suddenly becoming very aware that Evelina was right behind you, bouncing up and down like a child. “Ev? We’re good,” he says, hoping that it would give her the signal to leave them alone.
“Have her home by nine, young man,” Evelina points at him, slowly backing away but refusing to break eye contact.
“Nine a.m., got it!” he says, taking you by the hand and leading you as Evelina changes course and starts to follow you.
“Wear a condom!” she yells down the hall, you and Matthew practically running away from her.
You stop in your tracks, gasping even if you were only kind of shocked that she would actually say that. “Ev!”
“Love you!” she practically screams, slamming the door as the elevator opens.
“I can’t believe she just yelled ‘wear a condom’ down the hall! The guys next door must have loved that. Mrs. Rose is probably throwing up at the thought of premarital sex,” you start to ramble as the doors close on you and Matthew, your hands on your cheeks pulling your eyes open a little more.
He laughs, pulling you close to him, his warm hands against your back, you draping your arms on his shoulders.  “You can’t be that shocked she would say that.” He dips his head down to kiss you, finally saying hello the way he wanted to, his forehead pressed against yours as a lazy smile covers his face, “Hi, Mercury.”
“Hi,” you whisper, wishing you had something like that to call him. Something that meant he drove you as crazy as you apparently drove him. “And no, I’m not shocked. But I guarantee that you’re going to have to wear one tonight,” you tease him.
“If that’s what you want,” he whispers, planting a kiss on the top of your head.
Of course, that was what you wanted. He pulls away when the elevator door opens, leading you to his car. He doesn’t drop your hand until he opens the passenger side door for you. “What a gentleman,” you gush at him, half teasing him, half swooning over the simple action.
“Only for you,” he says, connecting with your lips as you try to sit down. Apparently, he couldn’t stop kissing you either. Not that you were complaining about it. You drive through the city in silence, his hand on your thigh while he drove, your hand placed over his. You stole glances at him every once in a while, the moonlight and streetlights dancing off his jawline, his eyes shining whenever light hit them. God, he looked so good. You didn’t see the glances he took at you, your enjoyment as you watched the city alive around you, watching people walk hand in hand down the street, laughing, smiling, enjoying life.
You get to the restaurant, him rushing over to help you out of the car before you even have the chance to try to get out yourself. This was so different from the Matthew you knew a few weeks ago.
The two of you are seated at a table in the corner, able to look at everyone around you. You sit in silence, but it’s not weird like you thought it would be. You look up from your menu to see Matthew staring at you smiling. “What?” you ask him as he reaches across the table for your hand. Why didn’t this feel weird? What about this made it feel so, you don’t know, so right?
“I’m just,” he starts, debating on whether or not he should say what he wants, “I’m just happy,” he settles on, not taking his eyes off you as a smile shows on your face, heat rushing to your cheeks.
“Who woulda thought you’d be soft for a girl, Rat Man?” you tease him.
He runs his tongue across his upper lip, sucking in a deep breath before letting out, “Only for you, Y/N.”
The two of you settle into mundane conversation after the waitress comes and takes your drink orders, the same sexual teasing ones that you would have with him before this whole thing started.
“Oh, come on, you’ve always found me hot. Don’t act like you never thought about what it would be like if I pinned you against the wall every time you saw me,” he teases you.
“I think you were at your most attractive when you were far away from me.”
“So, even when I wasn’t around you still couldn’t get me out of your mind.”
You roll your eyes, hating that he was right. You thought about this boy a lot more than you would like to admit. “I can only think about how much I hate about you,” you say without thinking, biting the inside of your cheek.
You swear he swallows hard, taking a moment to compose himself. He hated the thought of you still writing out that list. He needed to ask Evelina how far into you were given that you had two more weeks to finish it. But he was already taking you out on a date, so is the list even worth it? Before he can send himself into a downward spiral, he says, “And yet, you’re still sitting across from me on a date.”
He watches you look down at the table, trying to hide the smile you couldn’t help but flash. “You got me there.”
The waitress returns with your food, both of you falling silent as you ate. Matthew couldn’t help but study your every movement, from how delicately your hands wrapped around your utensils. He couldn’t help but smile at the sight of the ink covering you, on your pinky from the way you drag your hand across the page, the random dots and streaks of ink on your nails and everywhere, probably from the way you twirled it in your fingers, knowing that you drop your pen more often than you’re able to keep in your hands the way you fidget with it. He was amazed by how he could watch you for this long without you even realizing it, so wrapped up in the scene around you while you watched with amazement. He couldn’t believe that this was finally happening, that he was there with you.
The people around you were laughing, talking, enjoying the company of the person across from them. It felt so weird to be one of those people who could do that. You never thought you would find yourself in a situation where the person across from you would be Matthew. “Oh, I know what I wanted to tell you!” you say, breaking the silence between you, “Ev and I are going to be in LA the weekend you’re playing the Kings for a conference.”
“So you being out with me is just a ploy to get free tickets?” he smirks. He was going to get you the tickets, even if you didn’t want them.
“I mean, what else are you good for?” you ask as he takes your hand in his, putting it to his lips.
You go back to eating, both of you with one hand available. You try not to go crazy when he rubs his thumb along your knuckles, tracing a circle around each one before moving to the next, back and forth across your hand. You’re interrupted in your fixation on his touch by a woman screaming with joy, the man across from her down on one knee proposing. You can’t help but smile at the happiness she was radiating, Matthew watching you instead, not realizing you were picturing yourself being proposed to at that moment. You couldn’t make out the face of the man on one knee in front of you in your mind, but something about the wild hair gave you a good idea of who it was.
Why the hell were you even thinking about that? You didn’t even think you loved this boy, let alone picturing marrying him?
The two of you start clapping along with everyone else when she says yes, a forced smile covering your face as you try to calm yourself from the internal freakout that was manifesting. You look across the table to Matthew, his eyes wider than normal, his lips in a thin line.
Before you can ask him what’s wrong, Matthew cuts in, “I can’t believe he just did that.”
“What?” you ask him, slightly shocked.
“Uh, I mean,” he starts, not sure where he was going. He could feel his face getting hot. That’s not how he would have proposed to you. ‘Wait a minute,’ he thinks to himself, ‘proposing to Y/N?’ When did he even start thinking about something like that? He could feel his breath get shorter, trying to figure out what to say. You see him getting restless, reaching over to take his hand in yours, whatever panic that was forming in him instantly going away. “It’s just weird to do it in a restaurant, you know? Surrounded by a bunch of strangers instead of the people you love.”
You don’t know why, but your entire body tensed up at that word. Matthew keeps talking, but you don’t hear him. You look over to the couple, smiling over their news. She was crying, unable to stop herself from admiring the ring and the man she just committed her entire life to. You weren’t sure how long you had been staring, only snapping out of the trance you fixed yourself in when you felt Matthew pulling you up from the table.
“Are you alright?” he asks you, leading you back to his car. Something in his voice had changed, the soft, sweet tone from earlier not entirely gone, but some of it was missing.
“Yeah,” you lie to him, “I think the food is just starting to bother my stomach.”
“Oh, uh,” he says, dropping your hand once you get to the car, his hand lingering on the handle of the passenger side door. “I guess I’ll drop you back at your place then?” he asks, running his free hand through his hair.
You recoiled slightly at his words, not wanting to go home, but there you were. “Yeah, sure,” you say, ducking into the seat.
The two of you ride in silence, this time uncomfortable in complete contrast to driving there. He pulls up to your building, neither of you moving from your seats. What the hell happened? Did the idea of marrying him freak you out so much that you ruined your date with him? “So, uh,” he starts, “I’ll see ya?” he asks.
You don’t pull your gaze away from your hands in your lap, biting the inside of your cheek as you nod. This was supposed to be a great night for you two. Why did that guy have to propose? It was really all his fault when you think about it. You feel Matthew’s hand grazing your jaw, his thumb tracing your cheekbone before pulling you close to him for his lips to connect with yours. You pull away, your foreheads pressed against each other, an awkward smile covering both your faces. Without another word, you get out of his car to go up to your place.
He watches you walk away, letting out a groan. “Fucking hell,” he mutters to himself, pulling away once you get in the door.
-----------
“So it was bad?” Evelina asks, lying down on your bed next to you. You finally opened up to her about the disastrous date last night, from your freak out to ending with Matthew dropping you off at home instead of spending the night together.
You let out a heavy sigh, your phone vibrating with texts from your boss about preparing for the conference. “Fuck, is he bothering you this much about this presentation?” you change the subject quickly.
“Nope. Not a word from him since he said we were going. That’s not important right now.”
You let out another groan, not sure really what other noise to make. Words couldn’t describe how frustrated you were by the night you thought was going to be great. “It wasn’t,” you cut yourself off, tossing your phone aside and covering your face with your hands. “It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t what I wanted it to be.”
She turns over on her side, propping herself up on her elbow to look at you. “And you haven’t heard from him since last night?” Through your fingers you can see the expression she has on her face, scrunched up almost as if she was pitying you.
Your phone buzzes, both of you lurching to see if it were him. Instead, it was your boss again. “Fuck this,” you say, throwing the phone on the floor. “I want it to be Matthew. It’s not like him not to text me all day.”
“He left this morning for Winnipeg where they went right to practice and then to their game,” she tells you, relaying the message Elias probably gave her at some point. It still didn’t make you feel better. The game was over by now and you didn’t even know how it went. You thought he would have at least texted you, sent you a picture without context, something so you would know he didn’t hate you after last night.
“He’ll text you. They’re probably still getting changed from the game,” Evelina tries to reassure you. “Do you want me to stay here or do you want to be alone?”
You think about it, not sure how much good her company would do at this point. “I’m fine alone,” you decide, pulling out your laptop to find something to watch. She leaves you alone, your phone buzzing constantly with texts. After an episode of Gossip Girl, you finally check your phone to see a string of texts, all but one from your boss.
You let out a sigh of relief when you see Matthew’s message buried amongst those from your boss.
‘I’ve missed you, pretty girl. What are you up to?’
You could your heart racing for whatever reason as you tried to figure out what to respond with, your boss's name coming up again and again wondering why you weren’t answering him. ‘Moping, why?’
‘What’s wrong Mercury’
‘Work is a bitch’
You see the three dots appear and disappear from your screen. You stare at your phone, wondering why he wasn’t answering you when an incoming Facetime call shows up from him. Answering faster than you should, you felt relieved to finally see his face even if you had seen him the night before. “What happened to your cheek?” you ask immediately, referencing the noticeable gash that covered the right side of his face.
“I got the butt end of Johnny’s high stick at practice today,” he says, moving through what you assumed was his hotel.
“He probably did it on purpose, right?” you ask, a smirk on your face. You can hear his laugh echo through the hallway, the click of his door unlocking as he threw himself on his bed. “What were you doing?”
“The guys and I were down at the bar in the lobby.”
“Oh, did you guys win today?”
He stares at you for a second, a brief moment in which you can’t read him. “You only pay attention to me when it’s convenient for you, don’t you?” he teases you, a smile growing on his face with every word.
You let out a laugh, the memory of last night fading away. “My boss has been texting me nonstop about the work I’ve already gotten done, so I’m trying not to look at my phone.” You shift your attention away from your camera, knowing, not looking at Matthew for what you were about to say. “You know I always pay attention to you, Matthew,” you let out quietly, looking off to the side.
He smiles at your words, letting out a sigh of relief. This list had to be over. There was no way you could still be writing it. “We did win. Shut them out. We were downstairs celebrating before we hit the road in the morning.”
“Why aren’t you still with them! Go be with the guys!” you insist.
Matthew scoffs, shaking his head. “Nah, something was wrong with you. I had to make sure you were alright.”
“You left the guys for me?”
“I would leave anyone if it means making sure you’re ok.” You melt at his words, never thinking that he would be able to say something that would make you feel how you did. You missed him. You wished he was there with you. Before you can say anything, he starts, “I know how I can make you happy: tell me something. That always works.”
That always makes him happy.
“How about Dante’s circles of Hell so we can figure out which one my boss belongs in?” you joke, pausing the call briefly to finally respond to your boss to say that everything he had already texted you about asking you to do was finished and in his email.
“I know about them but I like hearing you talk,” he says, a smile on his face. His end goes completely silent, no background noise, nothing, as if he had muted you.
You try to recall the nine circles, starting to ramble in hopes it would jog your memory. “Dante Alighieri wrote the Italian poem between the years 1308 and 1320, the year before his death. It’s considered the first work written in the Italian vernacular, the Tuscan dialect, thus leading scholars to believe that this work is the reason why ‘formal Italian’ is Tuscan. He wrote it three parts, 100 cantos total, each canto with 33 lines: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso.”
You finally hear him again, his chest moving up and down rapidly, the camera shaking in his hand. “It’s so sexy when you speak in another language. Tell me about Hell,” he lets out, clearly out of breath from what you couldn’t see going on beyond the camera.
You start, your mind suddenly flashing back to that day at the package store, roaming through the aisles of alcohol with his hands leaving a burning touch on your body. “The first circle is Limbo. It’s where the unbaptized and virtuous pagans go. It’s like having a tv and only getting a channel like C-SPAN on every station,” you tell him, waiting for his response. His mouth is open slightly, no sound coming from him. You close your eyes, thinking of his hand in your back pocket that day, the way his fingers tensed on your ass.
You swallow hard, your breath getting slightly shallow as you continue. “The second circle is,” you stop, knowing that you would be right in this circle as you extended your free hand down. You knew exactly what he was doing the same thing, his eyes closing every now and then, the camera shaking as you thought about his body against yours the night after the charity event. “Is lust. Anyone controlled by their hormones.”
His eyes snap open, his voice shaking as you finally hear him again: “I guess we’ll go to the second circle together?” You bite your lip, nodding at him. “Third circle,” he demands, going back to his work as he thought you in the black dress, fitting your form perfectly, every thread, every stitch, waiting to be ripped off you.
“Gluttony: habitual greed or excessive eating, especially at the expense of others,” you tell him. You think about that dry-fit shirt he wore, every muscle he had accented in the fabric as your other hand moved faster. His camera was shaking, his chest moving up and down rapidly. Part of you was surprised he hadn’t gotten there yet. “Circle four is greed: hoarding money, and goods.”
“Five,” he chokes out, a moan following that he cut off by muting himself.
“Five was,” you say, gasping, “Five was anger, spending their time in hell waging war against each other.” Your eyes screw shut, hoping you could get through four more. “Unmute yourself,” you demand of Matthew.
His eyes practically pop out of his head. “Unmute yourself,” you tell him again, slowly, each syllable emphasized as he watched your eyes get ever so slightly darker. He nods, doing as you ask, now able to hear his heavy breathing. “Six was heresy,” you let out, low and slow.
Matthew gasps, getting up a little as a signal that he was finished, despite you having more circles to go through. “Don’t move yet,” you say to him, not wanting him to until you could. “Those in that circle believe in religions other than Dante’s: Christianity. Seven is violence, divided further into three levels: murderers, suicide victims, and blasphemers.” You can practically feel the memory of his lips as they would have been connecting with your body, right behind your ear.
“Tell me circle eight, pretty girl,” Matthew whispers, a lazy smile on his face as you get close to your climax. The sight of him your first night together, every inch of him as he entered you for that perfect night.
“Eight is,” you try to get out. You stop, feeling nothing and everything going through your body as you practically scream out, “Fraud.” You look at him, trying to steady your breath even though he could see your chest rising and falling as rapidly as his was before, a smile covering his face. “Nine is treachery. A frozen wasteland where those doomed to that final circle spend eternity with Satan himself.
You both sit there in silence, catching your breath. You see Matthew finally able to adjust himself, a small laugh escaping his lips at the mess that was over the once pristine sheets. He smirks, happy that you could hear each other for the last bit, neither of you guessing you were thinking of the other the entire time.  “I told you I could make you happy, huh?”
You take in a deep breath, trying to stabilize yourself, getting up to change quickly. “I would be happier if I didn’t have to do it myself,” you tease him.
“Trust me: I would do anything to be there with you right now.”
You smile at him, letting out a yawn. “I’m gonna go to bed, babe,” you say, slightly recoiling at the idea of calling him babe. “Talk to you tomorrow?”
He nods. “I-” you start to hear him say, accidentally cutting him off by hanging up just too soon. He couldn’t have been saying much, but you send him a text saying sorry for it. “Love you,” he breathes out, wishing you heard him finally say how he felt about you.

Heyyyy so y’all know how I usually like to write HT!Sans but today I kinda wanted to write him creepy the way some people like to write him. I thought it’d be kind of fun to do that. Yandere, mwahaha. So I guess this is sort of an x reader fic but the feeling is not mutual.
That said, before reading: We know yandere-type characters are preeeeetty out of touch with reality and are obviously supposed to be unsettling. Meaning in this, Sans isn’t exactly paying attention to MC when she says “no.” It doesn’t get really sexual, but still, it’s non-con. So if that bothers you, maaaaybe don’t read this. Just felt it was fair to warn you guys, I don’t want to upset anyone.
---
How long had you been down here?
You weren’t sure anymore.
As of late you had been engaged in an inner debate regarding whether you would rather be dead. You weren’t sure. At least if you were alive there was… a chance?... you could get home and eventually die there, happy.
But that was seeming farther and farther away. The memories of home were already fading. Amazing how the human mind becomes accustomed to its current surroundings, yeah? How quickly things become “normal.”
Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if it was just you and Papyrus in this house, where you were currently chained up in the living room. He wasn’t so bad. Scary to look at, sure, but friendly, and relatively normal when it came to holding conversation.
It was Sans who made things so unpleasant.
He hadn’t done anything to you, it wasn’t like he hurt you. He was just… creepy. The way that his one red eye would just lock onto you and just… stare, unblinking…. It scared you. The look was intense. Too intense. You just wished you knew what he was thinking. At first, you’d told yourself he probably didn’t mean to be creepy. He had a big injury in his head, maybe it had screwed up his understanding of social norms. Stuff like not staring. And it only freaked you out so much because of the way he looked and how he didn’t need to blink.
But he freaked you out for other reasons too.
A couple of times he had approached you, and you’d thought that maybe he was going to strike up a conversation. You’d witnessed him have conversations with Paps before. That was when he seemed the least creepy. When he was just acting normal around his brother. He made some pretty messed up jokes but that didn’t really bother you too much. It just seemed like whenever he took notice of you he got really really weird. He’d sat down next to you, and you’d been a little nervous, but you had decided to try and start a conversation. Which had… kind of worked. Sans seemed fine with, uh… indulging you? Like he thought you just wanted to talk and was happy to listen. He made some comments, but mostly just listened. That wasn’t weird.
It was the touching that had been weird.
Again, he didn’t do anything to you, as far as you were aware he wasn’t some sort of sick pervert. But he’d just… started touching your hair, and even your face, the whole time his eye just locked on whatever it was his fingers were preoccupied with. He’d only seemed to be half paying attention to what you were saying.
You were pretty sure he’d even sniffed you a couple of times.
So from then on you’d just tried to pretend like he wasn’t there. He’d sat next to you a couple of times, probably expecting a conversation, but you’d just smiled politely at him and he’d gotten up and left, looking disappointed and even a little annoyed. He didn’t seem to mind when you spoke to his brother, though, so you didn’t think he was like… yandere, for lack of a more succinct term. So that was at least a relief.
Still, you did your best to ignore the sounds coming from the kitchen, of cooking. The times when you least wanted to talk to Sans were when Papyrus was out. Times like now. Sans was making a meal, and you could smell it, but you refused to say anything. He could take it as an invitation for more hair-sniffing.
Eventually the sounds of cooking stopped and you could hear him eating. Your own stomach felt kind of empty. But usually Papyrus was the one to cook meals for you. Thank God.
When Sans left the kitchen with a plate in his hand, you tried to ignore him… until he stopped in front of you.
“Hey,” he said.
Um.
“Hi,” you said.
He held up the plate. “I have food for you.”
“Oh, OK. Cool.”
He sat down next to you. Dude, take a hint. You could see that on the plate were medium-sized pieces of cooked meat. Instead of handing you the plate, though, he grabbed a singular piece of meat and then held it out to you. When you reached out to try to take it he pulled back.
What the… Is he mocking me?
You almost had to hold back a wounded response, but he then held the piece up to your lips and moved closer to you.
… O… oh.
“Um,” you said. “This is really nice but you can just hand me the plate—“
“Just eat.”
… OK. You opened your mouth and he slipped the food into it; once he withdrew you started chewing, not looking at him. But you could feel his red eye locked onto you.
Then you felt his fingers running along your neck, and you flinched.
“It’s OK,” he said. “I won’t hurt you.”
You said nothing, just turned when you were done with your first piece of meat. As you did he leaned in, breaching your personal bubble.
“I would never hurt you,” he said.
“Thanks, Sans,” was your only reply, and he smiled.
“Y… You’re welcome.”
He fed you the next piece of meat, sliding it in farther this time. Your lips closed around it, and… was his breathing picking up?
“You’re… pretty when you eat.”
The hell does that mean? Still, you smiled, albeit awkwardly. “Thanks.”
He got closer to you. Dude did not know how to read the room. You did not like him touching you and stuff. Still, one of his fingers started to twirl itself in your hair, like a fork twirling around in spaghetti to get it to wrap around itself.
Another piece of food. Yep… his breathing was heavier, fanning against your cheek. As if you didn’t feel uncomfortable enough, he leaned close to your ear.
“I like being alone with you.”
You didn’t like where this was going. “That’s nice,” you replied, doing your best to keep your responses curt.
Still oblivious to the fact that you didn’t like what was happening (or did he just not care?) he fed you more. You looked at the plate. There were only two pieces left. Once he was finished he’d probably get up and go. Hopefully.
He kept talking: “You make me think of a deer.”
You looked at him, despite your better judgment. Was… he talking food-wise? Did… did he want to eat you?
“So graceful, and gentle, and shy....”
One of his hands cupped your cheek.
“Like a little doe.”
His teeth a hair’s width away from your ear, he hummed.
“Can I call you that?”
You said nothing, not sure what to—
“My little doe?”
After forcing yourself to swallow your meat, you said, “Your little doe?”
That seemed to excite him. His pupil dilated. “Yes…. You’re my little doe.”
You leaned away, debating on whether to talk back. Sans carried a giant axe with him everywhere. Would he get violent if you protested?
He set the plate of food aside. Shit.
“Sans,” you began, and his pupil dilated more. His breathing got heavy.
“Yes… Say my name….”
Before you could say anything his arms wrapped around you and pulled you close. You started to shake. His brother wasn’t here to stop him. How far would he go without supervision? He wouldn’t… He wouldn’t go… that far, right?
Deciding you didn’t want to take your chances, you started to squirm, but it did no good. His grip was like that of a bear trap.
“Don’t be scared,” he said. “I would never hurt you. Never.”
He leaned in closer and you kept struggling. It wasn’t helping but you wanted him to know you were not on board.
Either he didn’t notice or he didn’t care, because his teeth pressed against your lips. He immediately started to pant, his pupil so big his whole eye almost looked black. He just stared at you as his teeth moved against your lips. When his eyes lidded in an expression that looked like he was getting high, you weren’t sure if this was better or worse.
“Mm-mmh,” he murmured, leaning into you more. “Mmh….”
OK, this was it. You were done. You started to push back. “Sans, st—“
“My little doe,” he breathed. “(Y/n)... my little doe….”
“Stop touching me, Sans.”
“I won’t hurt you. I won’t hurt you.”
He kept saying that like it was going to make you feel better. “I don’t care. I don’t like it when you touch me. I said stop.”
“It’s OK,” he said, although it sounded almost like it was to himself more than you. “It’s OK. You’ll like it soon. Just let me keep going.”
He pressed his teeth to your lips again. You started to worry. Again, he wouldn’t… go all the way, right? You began to realize that if he did, you didn’t have an ounce of the strength needed to stop him. Not to mention that you were chained to the wall. You kept pushing but he didn’t stop. He really seemed to think that if he just kept at it you’d suddenly decide you were fine with it.
“Mmh… Mine…. Just think about me….”
You tried to pull away but it didn’t work. Well, you certainly weren’t paying attention to anything but him, but not in the way he wanted.
“I love you… my doe….”
His teeth moved to your neck. You whimpered, but despite the obvious fear in it he seemed encouraged.
“I’ve been in love with you… since we met…. I’ve wanted this for so long….”
A purr.
“Isn’t that romantic…?”
A tongue you hadn’t known he had ran up your neck, and you swallowed, not sure if he was trying to turn you on or if this was a taste test.
“So good,” he muttered. Oh fuck, it was the latter.
He gave you another taste, moaning.
“I said I would control myself…”
You could see his large eye locked onto you again, wide.
“But I can’t control myself around you. Not now… that I have you all to myself. Not anymore.”
With that he bit down and you yelled. The bite was so hard it drew blood, and his tongue ran over the wound. Another moan escaped him.
He’s going to eat me. He’s going to eat me alive and he’s going to be getting off to it the whole time.
Now concerned for your life, you started to push his face away. “Get off!” you managed.
“It’s OK, my doe… I won’t eat you…. Not you….”
He moved your arms aside like it was nothing and nibbled your ear.
“I love you too much to eat you. I can’t imagine my life without you. I would die.” He leaned in, his red eye staring hard. “See how much I love you? I would die without you. I love you. I love you so much.”
He kissed your cheek, and you grimaced.
“If anyone tried to take you away… I would tear them apart.”
You realized just how much you were trembling. His words didn’t make you feel safe at all.
“Isn’t that so romantic, my little doe? That I’m so devoted? That I would kill for you?”
Getting sick of this, you hissed, “I’m not your little doe. I’m not your anything. Fuck you.”
He flushed blue, his eyes lidding again. “So… feisty….”
He kissed you again, his teeth gently trying to pry your lips apart. When you resisted he bit down, and took advantage of your small cry of pain to slide his tongue into your mouth. He groaned, his eye looking up and his movements slowing as he explored your mouth.
“Nngh….” He sighed, flushing blue and closing his eyes. His tongue found yours and he moaned again. “Mmh…~”
You remembered the large, jagged hole in his skull, and you reached up with one hand and hooked your fingers into it, tugging hard to the side. You weren’t sure if it would hurt but apparently it did, because he released your lips with a hiss of pain. You squirmed to get out of his grip but it wasn’t any looser.
“Why did you do that?” he asked, sounding genuinely confused.
“Because I want you to stop!” you yelled.
“But I love you. Can’t you see that?”
“I don’t fucking care! I don’t love you back!”
He didn’t take much notice. “Little doe... we’re all alone. It’s so quiet. It’s just us. Paps is busy and won’t be back for a while.” He leaned in. “This is the romantic moment that I’ve been waiting for. To confess to you. To tell you how I feel.”
He breathed against your lips.
“While Paps is gone, we can do anything. Anything you want. Let me prove how much I love you…. Let me make you moan for me. You don’t even have to love me back, I don’t care, just enjoy what I do to you. Just enjoy the feeling of me deep insi--”
You screamed.
This seemed to finally snap him out of it, because his look grew panicked and he clamped his hand over your mouth. “What the hell are you doing?! Don’t scream! If anyone finds you they’ll kill you!”
You pried his hand away from your mouth. “Stop touching me or I’ll keep screaming until someone finds me and kills me!”
He immediately put you back down, moving away from you. You made a point of wiping your lips and neck of all the unwanted affection, and you glared at him, moving as far away as you could. At least he seemed to want you alive. That was an advantage— perhaps your only advantage— against him.
“If you touch me ever again I’ll scream,” you told him.
He looked hurt, though that meant nothing to you after what he’d just done. He seemed to remember the pieces of meat that were left and, thankfully, slid the plate over to you.
“I understand,” he said, standing up. “You’re not in the mood right now. You’ve had a bad day. That’s OK. That’s OK. It’s OK. We can do this another time, when you’re feeling better. When you’re not upset. You’ll like it then.”
After one last glance at you, he left, muttering “She’ll like it then” to himself over and over. Once he was finally out of sight you curled up into yourself, resisting the urge to vomit. Creep! Sick creep!
All those times he had stared at you or touched your hair… Had he been planning this all that time?
You would tell Papyrus about this when he came back. You had the bite mark as proof.
At least you had Papyrus. But your inner debate was over.
You would rather be dead than here.

He was all alone once again, but this time Eddie departure didn’t hurt, it didn’t shatter his heart, didn’t make him feel empty and alone, no this time he knew that they both needed some time off from one another, they needed to think, to assimilate both of their betrayal, Eddie more than him it seemed.
He never saw him this way, so hurt, vulnerable and tired, Eddie never showed anything, always keeping his feelings for himself, always sucking it up as he’d been teach, it had been a first for the both of them, it was the first time Eddie allowed himself to be weak, to be open, to be honest with his feelings.
Everything was quiet, disturbingly, painfully and numbly quiet, as his gaze was fixed on the wall in front of him, as he toned out the comes and goes of the doctors and nurses, the buzzing noise of a busy hospital he let himself think, let himself remember how everything was simple before all this mess, let himself wonder if he made the right choice....
———————————————————-
He knew that day would have eventually came, knew that at some point he would have to tell Eddie the truth, knew that he wouldn’t be able to hide his secret still he hadn’t expected would turn this way with both Eddie and him heartbroken, and more distanced from one another.
It’s been six days now, six days since he was released from hospital, six days since Eddie learned the truth, six days since he broke down in front of Buck.
Eddie had been kind of M.I.A since that fateful day and neither the team nor Buck had tried to get in touch with him, all assuming he’d needed time to assimilate all that happened, to accept that life changing new, but after the fourth day without any words from him Buck started to worry, started to wonder if something happened to Eddie, if he had to be the one to break the heavy silence that settled between them.
———————————————————-
He’d been debating with himself all Friday night, deciding whether he should go to Eddie’s or not when Carla called him clearly distressed.
-Please he hasn’t left his room in two days, she shared sighing tiredly, Chris told me he’s been depressed lately and I thought that maybe you could talk with him, she added, see what’s wrong, she breathed, Chris miss his dad and he miss you too, she revealed.
-Tell Chris I’ll be there tomorrow, Buck declared.
———————————————————-
Saturday came faster than what Buck had anticipated, he felt his stomach tangle with stress and anticipation, he felt his hands becoming sweaty, his heart beating faster, even though he knew that the chance of Eddie opening his door were slim, he couldn’t help but dread this impromptu reunion.
He arrived at the Diaz household in less than ten minutes, he stayed in his car for five, trying to calm his nerves and beating heart, trying to convince himself that everything was going to be ok, he was going to spend the first half of the day with Chris and Carla and then if he was lucky and if Eddie was willing they would have a longue and overdue conversation.
As predicted Carla was the one to open the door telling him that Eddie had totally refused to go out of his room after she told him that he was visiting, he pretended to be sick but Christopher has told her that morning that his dad wasn’t in a good shape, that he saw a bruise on his left eye.
Buck felt his blood boil after Carla revealed this, he thanked her before going to join Chris in the living room, he smiled at him and felt some of his rage disappear when the little boy hugged him and started to tell him all about his week.
-I missed you so much, he confided still focused on his drawing, I think daddy missed you too, he observed.
-I missed you to buddy, Buck smiled purposely ignoring his last words.
-Daddy is always sad, Chris sighed, he thinks I don’t hear him cry at night, he pursued, sometimes he’ll say your name, he added finally looking up.
Buck felt his heart ache for Christopher, he felt guilty, felt as if he was responsible of the strain between father and son, he threw a glance to Carla who nodded in understanding.
-Christopher honey, she called lightly, how about we go buy lunch for everyone, she beamed.
-And dessert, he demanded grabbing his crutches.
Silence engulfed the house after Carla and Chris departure, a loud and heavy silence, one foretelling how their conversation would turn out.
Shaking his head, he tried to turn his attention back on Eddie’s bedroom door, he tried to focus, tried to force himself to stop thinking about how they both hurt the other, tried to force himself to stop remember that night, tried to convince himself that everything was going to be ok, that they were going to put everything behind and move on, as parents if not as a pair.
———————————————————-
Eddie didn’t know how to feel anymore, he was lost, confused, numb… It was as if something broke inside of him, no words could describe the state he was in after he learned the truth, no one could understand the impact of that night, hell he couldn’t understand it either, he never felt that way and it was both scary and disturbing…
He always believed that Shannon abandoning them was the most hurtful moment in his life, that nothing could top her giving up on both Chris and him, then she died and he felt like she was leaving them behind once more, he felt like he could never recover, felt like he was never going to be enough for anyone or anything not even his son, but then Buck saved the day like he always did, he stupidly made him believe that he had the right to be happy, that he was enough, he was needed and wanted, he gave and gave never asking for anything in return, and Eddie had felt guilty, he’d felt as if he let him down that night, he felt like somehow he’d betrayed Buck, because he didn’t left by choice, didn’t abandon Buck without saying anything because he wanted to but because he had to.
He never imagined that Buck would make him pay, never though that this kind and selfless person, his person, would take everything back in the cruelest way possible, but he did and Eddie didn’t know how to feel about it, sure he was aching but somehow he got it, he understood that Buck had been hurt too, had been afraid, he made Buck feel what he felt when Shannon left and he couldn’t forgive himself for it, couldn’t face Buck, he was too ashamed for that.
———————————————————-
He wanted time to stop just for a moment, he wanted everything to stop, to be quiet, calm and southing, he wanted the world to pause just for a minute, a single minute that will allow the quiet to let him think, let him reflect; let him draw on their link, allowing him to find the right words, allowing him to reassure his tired mind and broken heart that everything was going to be alright.
Buck was silently sited at the window when he got out his room, he was watching kids playing around with a soft and living smile, he didn’t turn when Eddie approached, didn’t make any move, he just tensed and snickered. Eddie stopped walking all together feeling as if he wasn’t wanted here, as if he disturbed Buck peace, as if he ruined things once more, he was ready to turn back and close himself in his room when Buck broke the silence.
-I wish you loved me enough to stay, Buck whispered still looking out the window.
-I love you enough to go, Eddie retorted approaching him hesitantly, I love you enough to want you safe, he added brokenly understanding the hidden message in Buck’s words, he found himself kneeling down in front of the younger man.
He could feel Eddie’s arms tightening around his body, could feel his tears wetting his shirt, could sense the sheer agony and sorrow the other man felt. It was destroying him, tearing him apart, poisoning his blood, still there was nothing he could do, he was still hurt, still wary, still resentful, his wounded soul was keeping him from reaching out to Eddie even though his heart was yearning for him.
-I wanted to stay, Eddie revealed raising up, I wanted to I swear, he croaked passing back and forth in front of him, hands messing with his hair.
-Then why didn’t you, what was so important that you had to leave in the middle of the night without so much as a note, Buck demanded drily, his arms crossed protectively.
-Lena, Eddie mumbled almost inaudibly turning his head in shame.
-Lena, Buck croaked taking a step back, Lena, he repeated in a chuckle, I see, he stated nodding his head.
-I know what you’re thinking, Eddie objected, but I swear it’s nothing like that, he tried.
-Right, Buck scoffed, nothing like that at all, he snarled, excuse me then for feeling like some cheap booty call, he mocked.
-Don’t be like that Evan, Eddie sighed tiredly, it wasn’t like that for me, he growled, it wasn’t just sex and you know it, he pointed.
-No I don’t, Buck retorted his voice raising a little, how could I know it wasn’t just sex when I woke up cold and alone, he snorted, how could I know, when they were no note, no text or call for three whole days, he counted , how could I know it wasn’t just sex when you had a massive breakdown days after it happened making me fake forgetting it so you’ll feel better, he frowned hands in the air, tell me Eddie how dumb me was supposed to know, he nodded toward the older man.
-You weren’t supposed to know, cause I wasn’t supposed to leave, Eddie roared back grabbing him, I didn’t want to leave but she made me do it, he panted, she forced me and I had no other choice, he gasped, I had to go to keep Chris and you safe, he avowed.
-Safe, Buck repeated, safe from what, he demanded grabbing Eddie’s left shoulder, Eddie, he called.
-She’s blackmailing me, he chuckled drily, letting himself fall on the couch, she lost her job because they found out she was in a fight club, he explained, they never found out about me because Bobby made sure of it, he sighed, I left that night because she threated to expose me, told me that if it was to be known I’ll probably lose custody of Chris, I’ll probably lose my job, he passed a hand through his messy hair, she knew about us, he breathed, and I was afraid that she would do something against you too so I left, he croaked.
-You’re fighting again, Buck stated nodding to Eddie’s black eye, and she’s taking the money, he added.
-Yeah, Eddie nodded, I didn’t say anything and didn’t leave a note cause I didn’t want you to worry or get involved in it, he frowned, I was ashamed and scare of retaliation, he breathed out heavily.
-We’re a team Eddie, Buck objected, I have your back and you have mine, and I get it, I get you were worried and afraid, he pursued, but I could have helped you, I could have gave you the support you needed, he added, we’re in this together, he affirmed pointing at themselves.
-I don’t think you can help me in this, Eddie chuckled, it’s a big mess, he heaved, if I talk I lose everything, if I keep quiet I lose everything too, it’s a lose-lose situation, he mused.
-She wants to play dirty, Buck challenged, then I know exactly the person who could take her down, he announced, I’m going to help you out of this mess, but you have to tell me everything no lies, no secrets, you have to be honest there Eddie because Chris needs his father, and I need you to, he added softly massaging his belly.

Distance Between Us - Choi San
YOUTUBER AU
WORD COUNT: 7166
GENRE: fluff <3
WARNINGS: fluff overload, cussing, my cringe writting
Who was Sanshine? And why did this username keep appearing in my comments? I just decided to brush it off and continue scrolling, but there were barely any comments about the video I had just posted, they all just said Sanshine.
I just decided to ignore it and continue with my night.
It was pretty late, around 22:24, but I still had a few things to do, like eat and shower, so I did just that before laying in bed. I checked the comments once more, but they weren’t any different. They all only said Sanshine. Who is Sanshine? I was so tired and just wanted to go to sleep, so I put my curiosity on hold until the next morning.
I woke up to my phone buzz buzzing like crazy. There were all messages from my friends and notifications from my social media’s. I opened up my messages and it was my friend spamming me with “Sanshine”.
Who the hell is Sanshine? Do I need to make a video about this? The fact that so many people are telling me about this “Sanshine” person, it’s probably something just to mess with me. I sighed and got out of bed to make myself look presentable before sitting in front of a camera.
I set up all my lighting, my seating and my camera and cleaned up at but before starting to record.
“Really, guys?” I sighed.
“Who the hell is Sanshine? What kind of sick joke is this? I’m not stupid, y’all are just trying to get on my nerves. You’ve even got my friends spamming me with “Sanshine” like, it’s literally so stupid, I don’t get it” I complained, throwing my hands in the air.
“Y’all know about my curiosity, and yeah is slowly killing me cause I haven’t looked it up yet, but come on, can you maybe not? It’s annoying, please don’t spam my social media and my comments and even my text messages or dms with this “Sanshine” thing like, it’s beyond stupid, thanks” I said and ended the clip.
My channel is actually a complete mess. It goes from gaming videos, to vlogs, to covers and its really just all over the place. I honestly just can’t stick to one topic, and yeah it’s annoying.
It checked my phone for the time, more messages from my friends that all say “Sanshine” and it was 11:02am. I was going to go shopping/vlogging with some of my friends, so maybe I should get ready so I don’t look like a total mess?
I started to wait on my couch once I was done, to hear the door bell ring or possibly someone trying to break down my door with their fists, either one could happen. It was sadly the second option.
I opened it to Peyton pounding her fist on the door and it almost hit me in the face.
“You bitch, you almost hit me in the face AND my camera” I laughed a bit, glad I decided to record me literally answering the door.
“Whatever. Are you Sanshine’s girlfriend yet?” Peyton wiggles her eyebrows.
“I don’t even know who that is” I scoffed and made my way to the car.
“Look him up, dumbass” Alexandra rolled her eyes.
“I’m not going to and there’s literally nothing you can do about it” I laughed while getting in the passenger side.
“Fine, we’ll tell you about him” Peyton huffed, getting in the back while Alexandra got in the front.
“No thanks, I don’t want to know about him” I chuckled before plugging my phone in.
“What do y’all wanna listen to?” I asked, looking at them.
“Literally stop asking us, BTS” Peyton rolled her eyes.
“Keep it up with that attitude and I’ll reach back there and slap you” I threatened, maybe not so playfully while turning on a playlist full of BTS.
“Ok so his name is-“ I cut her off by turning it up louder.
“HE IS IN BUSAN RIGHT NOW, IF WE RUN INTO HIM AND FANS IT IS GOING TO BE A HELLHOLE” Peyton practically screamed over the music. All I did was put up the okay sign.
We arrived to the place we were going to be walking around at around 20 minutes after, and they haven’t tried to mention this Sanshine dude once since, and it’s making me nervous. Something isn’t right, they’re secretly planning something and I know it, but I just don’t know what.
We walked around, I filmed a bit, took some pictures with fans. I even decided to talk to some fans that came up to us while we were eating near the water fountain.
“So, have you contacted Sanshine, yet?” A fan asked and I rolled my eyes.
“What is this Sanshine thing? Who is he? I keep getting people saying Sanshine to me, but I don’t know who he is nor do I have a desire to” I laughed a bit while playing with my straw. The couple of fans pouted.
“You should really look into him, please. He made a whole video about you-“
“That’s enough, she can look up the rest herself if she wants to” one of the fans friends covered her mouth from saying any more.
“He made a whole video about me? Without even knowing me? What?” I asked, now more intrigued.
“Oh my god, there he is. We have to go, bye y/n, it was nice meeting you!” The group yelled while waving, as they sprinted away.
“There’s who? What? He made a video about me? I have literally have made nothing controversial, ever. What is-“
“It’s not a controversial video, WE LITERALLY CAME TO YOUR DOOR AND ASKED IF YALL WERE DATING YET” Peyton said, raising her voice towards the end, grabbing peoples attention.
“Dude, shut up” I whisper shouted at her.
“We’re not telling you any more, if you want to know more go look him up yourself” Alexandra rolled her eyes and continued to drink her drink. I scoffed before sitting back. I scanned around the area until I laid my eyes upon a breathtakingly handsome boy. Shit, his jawline could cut, his hair looks so fluffy, I want to touch it. OH SHIT HE JUST SMILED HIS DIMPLES OH MY GOD-
I need to calm down.
“Y/n? You ok? You good?” Alexandra snapped her fingers in front of my face. I gulped.
“Y-Yeah, I-I’m fine” I stuttered, shaking my head to snap out of my thoughts.
“You’re blushing, where’d the handsome dude you saw now?” Alexandra laughed, and I covered my face.
“Shut up. We need to leave, now” I said before standing up and dragged them away from the area.
“Why do we even take you out anymore?” Peyton sighed, it was more of a sarcastic way.
“Literally, if you think he’s hot go ask him out!” Alexandra yelled once we had gotten away from that area. I shook my head.
“Well, what did he look like at least, so if we see him again we can get his number for you?” Peyton asked.
“He was cute-“
“No shit” Alexandra rolled her eyes.
“Fine. He has a really sharp jawline, blonde fluffy hair, his smile is fucking adorable, not to mention dimples and oh my god I might hyperventilate” I described him and they looked at each other wide eyed.
“What?” I asked.
“Shit, you’re in love” Peyton smirked and I playfully hit her arm.
“No, he’s just cute. He could be a dumbass for all I know” I rolled my eyes and we continued walking and weaving between stores.
I saw the dude once more, and we made eye contact. I immediately ran from the area, Peyton and Alexandra following far behind.
“Literally, stop running from every cute guy you see!” Peyton shouted, making heads turn our way. She knows how to embarrass people.
“Shut up!” I whispered at her. She just laughed. I looked around and saw a group of people pushing the handsome guy towards me.
“G-guys...he’s coming towards us..meet you back at the car” I said quickly before sprinting my way back to the parking lot and jumping inside the car, which they had stupidly left unlocked.
They joined me a few minutes later, panting from the running they had to do.
“We scared everybody off” Alexandra laughed. I nodded a ‘good job’ to them. She proceeded to start the car and drive back to my house, where I didn’t know what we’d do there.
It was late and today’s vlog has just been uploaded, starting with the Sanshine message I filmed earlier. I scrolled through my Instagram, and this Sanshine guy was even in my recommended to follow. I couldn’t see what he looked like, his profile picture was a sun with a smiley face.
I rolled my eyes and checked the comments that were just now pouring in. Only a few of them said Sanshine, and some of them were apologizing. I laughed lightly and shook my head before putting my phone away.
It was around 21:09, it was still pretty early, for me at least. There are nights where I stay up until ungodly hours editing, it’s most nights. I don’t have anything to do, besides eat and shower. There was no point in checking my comments, it’s all the same thing.
One thing lingered in my mind, though. Who is Sanshine? My curiosity has slowly been eating away at me, and I don’t know how much more I can take. I looked at my computer, debating whether I grab it and look him up.
Before I can register everything, my fingers are typing away and scrolling on YouTube. He must be a YouTuber, those fans said he made a video, right?
I press the search button and his channel pops up. 3.4 Mil, not bad. I scrolled through his channel until I saw a video titled ‘confession’. It had my channel name in the thumbnail.
I clicked on it. It was the same guy from earlier. Oh my god, he was Sanshine. H-He likes me?
I watched more of the video, and it was basically about him confessing he has a crush on me, without even knowing me.
“I-I know it’s stupid... but I’ve been accused so many times of hating y/n or having something against them but, I-I don’t want you guys to think that anymore. Please don’t spam her comments or DMs or messages with anything about this, if she decides to.-”
I paused the video. I mean, it’s true that you can fall for someone online, I’m as real as can be on YouTube, if you fell in love with me through my videos, I’m not any different in real life.
I shut my computer and tried to take my mind off of him. I made myself some good, ate, showered and tried to sleep, but I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Something about this Sanshine guy drew me in, though I eventually passed out with the image of him in my head.
I woke up to light pouring into my room, right through my curtains. How late is it? I rolled over to look at my phone. Oh shit it’s-
“Y/N ITS LITERALLY 13:07 WHY THE HELL ARE YOU STILL IN BED?!” Peyton bursted through my door and yelled.
“WHY THE HELL ARE YOU IN MY HOUSE?!” I yelled back.
“We can talk about that later, get out of bed so we can go” Alexandra laughed nervously.
“Are you telling me I look like shit and that I have bad security?”
“Yes”
I got out of bed and pushed them out of my room so I could get ready. I grabbed my camera, making sure I had charged it, grabbed my backpack, phone and ran out to their car to meet them.
“So where are we going?” I asked, and started to film my first clip of the day.
“So um, yesterday Peyton kinda broke her left shoe..” Alexandra trailed off.
“Fine, I’ll buy you new shoes” I rolled my eyes and laughed.
“Huh? Oh no, I can pay for them myself, it’s just we wanted to drag you along. Also Sanshine-“
“Yes, I looked him up last night” I sighed and they both burst out laughing.
“Oh my god, yesterday, you literally called him hot and cute like 6 times” Peyton laughed.
“Okay, first of all it was 2 times, second of all he is and I’m just telling the truth” I rolled my eyes. Peyton scoffed and rolled her eyes before Alexandra turned up the music to stop an argument from possibly breaking out.
We arrived at a different place from yesterday and got out. Wanna know who I saw?
Sanshine.
I wanted to look away but I couldn’t. I felt bad about what I had uploaded yesterday, I kinda wish I had done my research before I posted the video, but guess who’s dumb? Spoiler: it’s me.
We made eye contact, but this time I didn’t instantly turn away. I looked for a few seconds before turning back to my friends, who were trying to pick out a new pair of shoes for Peyton.
“I kinda like these, do you think they’ll have them in my size?” Peyton asked, while turning around to show me a pair of shoes.
“Probably. 9 times out of 10 they’ll have your size. Go ask” I shrugged, shoving my hands into my pocket.
“What video are you gonna post today?” Alexandra asked while Peyton asked the staff for a pair to try on.
“Probably half vlog half gaming. I’d ask Peyton if she wanted to play with me cause I was planning on playing some overwatch, but we both main d.va therefore we’d be fighting on who gets to play as her literally every single round” I laughed a bit.
The rest of the day went smoothly, we only hung out until about 5:30, and they had to go back to their shared apartment.
I was filming some gameplay before I got a notification from my phone. I went to check it only to see a notification saying someone requested to DM me on Instagram, I never get these kinds of notifications unless they’re from a verified account.
“I’ll be right back after this round give me a moment” I said before leaving the game and stopped my filming.
Confused, I unlocked my phone and went to my requests and- oh god. Sanshine DMed me.
Sanshine: Hey y/n, it’s kinda weird for me to drop by like this but I just wanna say I’m sorry for the things that have happened the past few days. I didn’t mean for it to go like this and I just wanted to be honest with my fans. I’m truly sorry.
I laughed a bit while reading his messages. As if people constantly saying “Sanshine” to me actually affected me one bit. That’s funny.
Me: It’s alright.
I kinda feel like a dick for giving him such a short response, but I’ll probably send him another message later. For now, I need to finish this video.
As I snuggled under my covers, I suddenly remember to text Sanshine back. I checked our DMs, and he read my message.
Me: Hey sorry, I was busy earlier and couldn’t give a real response. But it’s really okay, I try my best to stay true to my fans too and sometimes, as much as we try, there are somethings we can’t control, and at the end of the day, we’re all humans who can make their own choices, whether they are wise or not. Ps you’re cute ;)
I added the thing at the end, probably just to excite him. I don’t want to lead him on or anything, but I don’t want to like, leave him, you know? I think we could be friends, and if feelings develop, probably more. I shut my phone off and laid back down, thinking about him... I couldn’t be catching feelings, could I? I only know what he looks like and that he’s sorry for people constantly spamming me with Sanshine. Hell, I don’t even know his name. He’s cute and sorry, that’s all I know...
I opened my eyes the next morning, still wanting to sleep, but was that going to happen? No. I checked my phone and it was 09:34am. I looked at all my social media’s, and it looked like the Sanshine stuff wasn’t going to be clearing up anytime soon.
I got out of bed and started to get ready for the day. I wasn’t going to be doing anything particularly interesting today, so I’d probably just post a cover or a gaming video, probably a livestream though. I checked my Instagram DMs to see if Sanshine responded to my message, and sure as shit he did.
Sanshine: O-oh..okay well thanks heh. Let me know if you ever wanna hang out sometime then.
Aww, he stutters over text, how cute. I smiled to myself before shutting off my phone and going to get dressed and whatnot.
After that, I made some breakfast to eat, just eggs and toast, nothing special. As I was eating, I was wondering what I should do today. I could go out again, why? I don’t know. I could play more video games, I could buy a new game and livestream? I could stalk Sanshine, I don’t know but there are plenty of options. Then an idea sparked in my head.
People ship Sanshine and I. Ships always come with fan fiction. That.. that’s it. That’s exactly was I was going to do today. My smile grew as I started to set up to film this video. I went onto the most popular site for fan fiction, wattpad, and typed in my name x Sanshine. Sure enough, lots of stories came up. I debated whether to ask Alexandra and Peyton if they wanted to come over, but decided not to. I pressed start on the film button.
“Hey guys! How are y’all doing today? My day has been... boring honestly. I ate and that’s about it. As I was wandering around my house, thinking about what I should do for today’s video, a great idea popped into my head!” I started, a small smile forming on my face.
“I thought, hm, people ship this Sanshine dude and I, ships always come with fan fiction, why not read some?” I smiled at the camera, knowing I had cause some of my fans who were going to watch this pain.
“So I went onto a popular site called wattpad, and well, typed up my name x Sanshine and well, a lot of results came up. You guys are quick” I laughed.
“So I’ve decided to read this one book called y/n x Sanshine one shots. I had no clue what a one shot was, so I looked it up on urban dictionary, and apparently it’s like a short fan fiction, so we’re just going to be reading a book full of those” I explained before clicking on the story(s) that I was about to read.
“This is what happens when you aren’t creative and have shitty content” I sighed.
“Okay lets get started”
“It was a bright, sunny day and y/n and San, wait his real name is San? Like, mountain? Give me a moment” I said before bursting into laughter off camera. About 3 minutes later I regained my senses and wiped my tears before sitting back down.
“Sorry. I have no clue why that was so funny to me, I feel so bad” I chuckled before continuing to read the rest.
About half way through the 3rd one, things started to get a little... hot.
“Oh. Um. Oh my g o d. Will I get demonetized if I keep reading this?” I asked myself.
“San slowly took off y/n’s shirt while kissing her- yeah no I think that’s enough” I laughed awkwardly before slamming my computer shut. I looked directly into the camera before situating myself.
“Anyways, um, that’s the video. I’m scarred, so if that was your guys goal, good job you have succeeded. If you desperately want me to read more fan fiction, y’all better get me to 800k likes cause that was hell” I chuckled.
“Bye” I waved before turning off the camera. I sat down at my desk, opened my computer and proceeded to edit and post the video.
Sooner or later, my phone buzzed. Another DM from Sanshine.
Sanshine: Hey, haha. Sorry to bother but can I steal your video idea? You know, the reading fan fiction one?
Me: Sure. If you’re still in Busan we can film together if you want.
Sanshine: Damn, I just got back to Seoul a couple hours ago. Maybe next time?
Me: Sure.
I smiled and turned off my phone. This kid... why does he have my heart feeling this way? I noticed he had always been following me on Instagram, so why not follow him back? Fans were probably going to explode but oh well. As soon as I pressed the follow button, literally 3 seconds later everything in my tagged said I followed Sanshine. It made me wonder how many people were actually keeping track of San and I.
I laid back on my couch, turning on the tv for some background noise. It was around 15:06 already, I still had hours to kill. Peyton and Alexandra were bugging me on why I didn’t invite them to read fan fiction with me. I just texted them to shut the fuck up.
A few days pass, and San has kinda caught my interest. I’ve been watching his videos lately, and he’s funny and entertaining. I had subbed to him recently, and my socials have blown up. I haven’t talked to him since the fan fiction thingy, but it’s fine I guess. His dimples are so cute, it actually makes me melt though. I think I have a thing for dimples, my friends call it a kink but I don’t think that’s possible. A kink for dimples? Just listen to how weird that sounds!
As on cue, an Instagram DM notification pops up on my phone. San. Of course. I find myself smiling while reading his message.
Sanshine: Hey. I hope it’s not too weird for me to be messaging you like this, haha. Just want to know how you’ve been :)
Me: Oh, hey. I’ve been good. Maybe it’s a bit weird, but I don’t mind messages from you! How have you been?
Sanshine: Oh, thanks. I’ve been doing well. I just kinda maybe.. wanted to know if you’d like to be friends or something?
Me: What’s the or something? ;)
Sanshine: You’ll find that out soon ;))
I silently cringed at the winky faces, but the conversation continued for hours upon hours until he had to leave. I soon found myself smiling and blushing while reading through our past messages. We had swapped phone numbers half way through, for better communication I guess.
The shipping material hasn’t died down at all, though. In fact, now people think we’re secretly dating and it’s all the drama that’s going on. I shut my phone off and plugged it in beside my bed so it could charge. I fell asleep happily that night, thinking about the long conversation we had. Ew, that was cheesy, but you get what I mean. I hope.
I woke up the next morning and rolled over to check my phone, only to see a text from San.
San: Good morning, I hope you slept well and I hope you have a wonderful day! Don’t forget to eat and drink lots of water!💞
Oh my god. He sent me a good morning text. Tell me he isn’t boyfriend material oh my god and he put hearts too, I’m going to scream. Then I scrolled down to Peyton and Alexandra spam texting our group chat, asking if I wanted to go out today. I have nothing else better to do, so why not? They said they would pick me up around noon, so I had around an hour to eat and get ready.
I got into the backseat of their car, my camera out.
“What’s up?” I asked.
“How’s you and Sanshine?” Peyton turned around and smirked. As much as I wanted my smile to drop, it only grew bigger. Peyton started squealing, which turned into a scream, which turned into a shriek.
“T-THAT MEANS THERES SOMETHING GOING ON!!! TELL US!!” Peyton screamed and Alexandra hit her lightly for Peyton to calm down. I turned off my camera.
“We’ve just been talking. That’s all” I shrugged.
“No, y’all have been flirting!!” Peyton yelled again.
“Maybe-“ I was cut off by Peyton’s screaming.
“Calm down!” Alexandra yelled. I leaned back in my seat after giving a few details and buckled up, turning the camera back on.
“So, where are we going?” I asked curiously.
“To fucking Seoul” Peyton joked.
“I don’t mind” I shrugged.
“Of course you don’t, your god damn boyfriend lives there!”
“He’s not my boyfriend, dipshit!”
“Mhm”
I rolled my eyes before they turned on some music. You guessed it - BTS.
We arrived an outdoor mall, basically. It was small and not commonly known around here, therefore it was a nice, easy place to walk around in.
“So what are you guys planning on doing?” I asked as we walked around.
“Just this. Maybe buying a few things. Doesn’t matter, really” Peyton shrugged as she skipped around, leaving Alexandra and I to follow her in a fast walk.
I sat in the changing room, bored out of my mind as the other 2 went to go try on some clothes. There were a lot, and they’re slow, so it’ll be awhile. My phone dinged, only to see a text from San. I smiled and unlocked my phone.
San: Hey. What are you doing right now?
Me: Oh, hi. I’m at the mall with Peyton and Alexandra. They’re trying on clothes so I’m stuck in the waiting area, haha. What about you?
San: That sucks lmao. I’ll entertain you. I’m not really doing anything, my dorm mates abandoned me.
Me: All 7 of them?
San: Yep. All 7. They’re just out doing their own things, some of them are probably at a mall like you while the others went out to eat or something
Me: Aw, well I’d never leave you
San: Even if you tried, you couldn’t ;)
I let out a small yelp as I felt someone touch my shoulder.
“Who are you texting?” Peyton smirked.
“I-uh no one” I stuttered as I struggled to slip my phone back into my pocket. Alexandra and Peyton looked at each other other suspiciously.
“Mhm. Alright, let’s go we’re paying then getting some food” Alexandra tugged on my arm to the cashier where they payed for their stuff. They then dragged me to a nearby café that was in the mall.
We sat down at a table after ordering our food. As the other 2 engaged in a conversation, I got back on my phone under the table.
San: Y/n??
San: Hello? Did I scare you away?
San: I’m sorry
Me: Nonono, sorry haha. My friends dragged me away to go pay and whatnot. We’re in a café right now. That was my fault, heh
San: Oh, no worries. I was just scared that I had finally scared you off lol
Me: Scare me off? Never
San: Never?? You wanna hear my pick-up lines?
Me: Sure ;)
San: Alright
San: Did it hurt?
Me: When I fell from heaven..?
San: No when you fell from the vending machine
Me: What the fuck San
San: Cause you a snack ;)
San: Hello?
San: Uh oh
Me: I feel attacked
San: Not a-snacked?
Me: lmao pls stop
San: Never ;)
Me: Lol I’m leaving bye
San: Wait no come back please
I shut my phone off to see Peyton and Alexandra smirking at me. They had somehow grabbed my camera without me noticing and were now filming me.
“So, y/n, who were you texting?” Peyton said, smirk growing.
“Uh...” I was at loss for words.
“Who? Tell us! You want to be real, right?” Peyton pushed it further.
“S-San...” I gulped before hiding my face.
“What about?” Alexandra asked.
“Uhh... j-just entertaining each other..” I stuttered. Right at the perfect moment, someone came to the table with our food. We thanked them before I stuffed my mouth with food so I wouldn’t have to answer questions. I chewed slowly, snatching my camera back and stopped recording.
“Guys, why? I don’t think people should know about San and I talking and getting to know each other. It can be blown way out of proportion and people would go absolutely crazy” I explained and they gave me the :o face, as if they just really really understood why. I shook my head and continued eating.
They dropped me back off at my house, and I showered and changed, before starting to edit my video. My phone buzzed, and it was a text from San.
San: Hey
Me: Hii
San: Wanna FaceTime?
Me: Sure
This was the first time San had asked to FaceTime, so I was a bit nervous and excited. As much as I’ll try to deny it in the future, I’m catching feelings.
My phone screen suddenly changed to my reflection as it showed San was calling. I hit accept and only showed my eyes. It connected and he showed his full face, his smiling growing so his dimples were showing.
“Hey, why aren’t you showing your beautiful face?” He smiled and I slowly showed my bare face, glasses and everything.
“There she is” San’s smile grew wider, somehow.
“So, what are you doing right now?” He asked, propping up his phone so he wouldn’t have to hold it as he rested his chin on his palms.
“Oh, nothing. Just editing today’s video, you know?” I said with a small awkward laugh.
“That doesn’t sound like nothing. I still don’t know how people do it, post videos everyday? That seems impossible for me” he chuckled.
“Well that’s cause you have no friends. Friends that hang out with you, anyways” I shrugged and he pretended to look offended.
“That hurts my feelings, how dare you” he scoffed and pretended to cry, making me laugh.
The call lasted for hours, and I probably would’ve forgotten to post the video of he didn’t remind me. His roommates came back around an hour and a half into the call. They bugged him and annoyed San every once in awhile. I just laughed at all his attempts to shoo away his roommate, Mingi and another guy named Wooyoung.
Months passed into the winter, and San and I still talked as often as possible. We flirted shamelessly over text basically every second we talked. There were no labels, until one day I was out with - you guessed it, Peyton and Alexandra, shopping for Christmas. My phone buzzed, only for it to be San. Who else would it be?
San: Hey wanna be my girlfriend?
Me: Sure
San: Holy shit that was easy
I laughed at San’s shock over text, and suddenly, my phone screen lit up only for him to be calling me.
“Hello?” I said with a small laugh.
“You’re serious, right? Like, you aren’t fucking with me for shits and giggles?” San asked, voice full of shock.
“Nope, 100% serious” I laughed.
“Oh my god ohmygodohmygod” he squealed and I laughed even harder at his excitement.
“HAHAHA FUCKERS I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND NOW!!” I heard San scream out his door before shutting it.
“I’m glad you’re excited, but maybe can I call back later? I’m kinda out and about right now, and in public isn’t the perfect time to be calling-“
“Of course! Call me as soon as possible!” San said cheerfully.
“Okay, well bye Sannie”
“Bye Y/n-ie!” He sang into the phone before I hung up. After a few seconds, it washed over me that I’m now dating Choi San. Over the internet.
“Why are you stuck? Come on!!” Alexandra yelled and dragged me to another store. The amount of money I’ve spent today is quite something. I don’t like to use my money, or a lot of it at once, at least.
After a few more stores and a few more hours, we had finally left the mall and Peyton and Alexandra took me back home, as I carried in all the bags in one trip.
After putting away my things, I decided to do live stream on Instagram. As soon as I pressed start, there were already thousands of viewers. I started to read off random comments I saw.
“Y/n do you still remember Sanshine? Yes, in fact, I do. We talked for a bit after people started bugging me” I chuckled, hoping it seemed real.
“Did you know that he has a girlfriend now? Or supposedly does? Sanshine has a girlfriend? Hm, interesting” I shrugged.
“Yeah, he met her over the Internet. She lives in Busan like you. He exposed himself when one of the people he lives with in his dorm was doing a gaming live stream, and Sanshine shouted “hahaha fuckers I have a girlfriend now”. In fact it was earlier today” I read out. Oh shit, people caught on quick.
“I’m happy for him” I shrugged it off and continued reading more comments. Then San texted me.
“Why do you have time to do a livestream but not time to call me back?” I read out loud.
“Oh shit, I forgot to call someone back. If you’re watching this, I’ll call you right after” I smiled awkwardly before continuing my live.
It ended about 45 minutes later, and as soon as I ended it I called San.
“You hurt me” I could hear San pout over the phone.
“Well, I could’ve not called you back in general-“
“You said once you were home”
“I said as soon as possible” I rolled my eyes. He tried to hold back a laugh before he started cracking up on the other end.
We stayed on call for awhile, we ate dinner on the phone together and whatnot. Our calls always last for an average of 3-5 hours, sometimes more, sometimes less.
As I was laying down in bed, my phone resting on my nightstand, we were just talking.
“I wish we could see each other for Christmas” he sighed.
“Me too”
“I wish I could go to Busan, but I can’t”
“Why not?” I asked curiously.
“Because of stupid reasons. Also cause my dorm mates said they’ll kick me out if I spend another Christmas away from them that isn’t with my family” he sighed again.
“They wouldn’t”
“They would”
“You could come live with me” I suggested. He paused for a moment.
“Hm, maybe” he shrugged.
“What? Am I that scary?” I laughed and he looked offended.
“No! You’re softer than a pillow and marshmallows!!” He shot back, which made me laugh harder. Rolling my eyes, we continued to talk through the night, not even realizing the time until somebody called him out for it.
“San, will you shut up already? You guys have talked all night! It’s already 9!” Mingi yelled from his bed. We both checked the time, and you bet, it was 9 o’clock. My phone battery wasn’t low, due to it being on a charger but damn was my phone hot.
I quickly checked to see how long we’ve been on call for, and shit it’s been 15 hours... 15 hours of nonstop talking.
“Shit, I might just sleep through the day” he chuckled.
“Ah, me too but I don’t want to leave you..” I sighed.
“Come over” he said, and I had no clue on whether he was joking.
“Wait, are you serious?” I asked.
“Yeah, I’ll wait for you. Give me a time and I can pick you up” he said and I could actually hear him smiling. How do you hear someone smile, I don’t know.
“Okay.. let me look at train tickets” I said, getting out of bed and getting onto my computer. I looked at the train tickets for the quickest trip from Busan to Seoul.
“The quickest I can find leaves at 11:30 and takes 3 hours and 11 minutes” I read out to him.
“Good. Pack a lot, you’ll be staying here. Don’t worry, if you run out of clothes you can wear mine” he said, possibly winking. It was easy to predict his actions now, knowing him so well.
“Alright then... see you in 5 hours I guess” I said with a small laugh.
“BOYS WE HAVE 5 HOURS TO CLEAN UP THE DORM MOVE YOUR ASSES” San screamed.
“Okay, yeah see you. I can’t wait! Bye!” He squealed before hanging up the phone. I rolled my eyes and went to hop in the shower. I had just done my laundry, so everything was all nice and clean.
After taking a quick shower, I quickly packed everything I needed. Hygienic things, clothes, chargers, laptop, but I don’t think I’ll need a guitar yet. Plus, he once said one of his dorm mates plays the guitar too, so we’ll see.
I started my vlog, nothing too exciting, just saying that I was going to Seoul for a little bit. I managed to get Alexandra to give me a ride to the train station, not Peyton cause she’s scream the entire time. Alexandra is a bit more on the calm side.
I was around 10 minutes early, and I sat on a bench, waiting for my train to come. A few fans came up to me and ask me for pictures, and it probably looked like I was dead inside or something cause I was so tired. I had truly stayed up all night calling San.
As soon as I got onto the train, I sat down and relaxed, sticking my earbuds into my ears, and fell asleep hugging my luggage so no one could steal it.
I woke up to the announcement that we had arrived, and it was around 14:45. I texted San that I had just arrived, and he said he got stuck cleaning the last bits of the dorm so one of his dorm mates, Seonghwa, would come get me. I’ve talked with Seonghwa quite a bit, he’s nice. He likes to steal San’s phone when San goes to the bathroom and talk to me.
I see a familiar face walking up to me, and I started making my way to him, as we smiled tiredly at each other.
“Hey, y/n. So nice to meet you in person, now!” Seonghwa greeted me.
“Hi. You too” I smiled back.
“Are you hungry or anything?” He asked and I shook my head. He led me to his car and we talked the entire way back to the dorm. I was so close to seeing San again.
“Y’know, San has had a crush on you for the longest time. Now that you guys are dating, he keeps telling us it’s a dream come true” Seonghwa exposed San, making me burst into laughter.
“Oh really? A dream come true, huh?” I repeated and he nodded. We eventually made it to the dorms they lived in, and he took me up to their dorm.
“This is it. Ready to meet your boyfriend?” Seonghwa asked.
“That sounded weird, but yes, yes I am” I smiled. He unlocked the door and opened it, and in sat 6 boys, legs all crossed, sitting up straight and pretending to be all fancy. I looked at them for 3 seconds, looked back at Seonghwa, and then we burst into laughter.
“You guys know how to make a first impression” I laughed as they now all came to the door and greeted me. I greeted them back, slipping off my shoes.
“San’s in his room, tired as hell and dying of nervousness” Hongjoong told me. I thought for a bit before deciding to see if I could scare him, but that’s maybe not a good idea.
I carefully knocked on the door and I heard a small “come in!” and I peaked through the door, only to see San pacing back and forth. I walked in and shut the door.
“Not gonna greet your girlfriend?” I asked and his head snapped towards me. He ran the steps he could and pounced on me, almost knocking me over.
“Y/n!!!” He shouted. I smiled and hugged him back.
“Hi Sannie” I giggled and he only hugged me tighter.
“I can’t believe you’re actually here!” He said, pulling back to look at my face.
“Me too..” I said and he kissed my nose. I blushed, hiding my face into his shoulder as his arms slid around my waist.
“Are you tired? Hungry? Thirsty?” He asked. I shook my head.
“Just a bit tired, had a power nap on the train. Wasn’t a good one, but it’ll do” I snuggled into him more.
“Then let’s sleep!” He announced, helping me, somehow, undress of me of my dirty train clothes and slipping on new ones, by that I mean one of his shirts, even though I brought a lot of my clothes. Maybe it was moving a bit too fast, but who cares? All I wanted to do was be in San’s arms.
He let me under the covers first before getting in himself, arms sliding around me as he held me close to him.
“Hmm, I’ve wanted to hold you like this for a long time...” he sighed blissfully.
“Have you?” I asked, fingers brushing over his adorable neck freckles.
“Mmhm” he said with a slight nod, and you chuckled.
“Just think, it’s almost been a year since you’ve posted that video. When did you post that? March?”
“Yeah, March. I’ve liked you for longer, though” he shrugged.
“Scientists say when you like someone for more than 6 months, you’ve fallen in love with them” I stated a fact I learned awhile back.
“So does this mean I can officially say I’ve fallen in love with you, then?” He asked with a small laugh.
“If you want. That means I can say the same, too” I smiled, hiding myself.
“Oh?” He asked playfully.
“Am I that irresistible?” He teased and I playfully hit his chest.
“Stop” I whined.
“Never” He laughed back, pressing a small kiss to my forehead.
“I’m so glad you here..” He mumbled into my hair.
“Me too. I’m glad we finally closed the distance between us…” I said into his chest. It was silent then, as we just held each other, waves of sleep taking over us.

imperfections (40/?)
ao3
y’all this update came about because i reread most of the braveryverse over the weekend and remembered why i loved it so!!!!! enjoy!!!! i’m going to throw myself into this. and the soulmate fic. and the office au. and the 50,000 other projects i’ve started. yikes
Xander woke up early and felt a moment of confusion before remembering the fight he’d had with his dad last night. It wasn’t the worst that had ever happened, just loud and drunken accusations from his dad while his mom stood tight-lipped and washed dishes, but for some reason Xander had completely lost his temper and ran. He’d pushed past his dad and ran down to the basement and grabbed the emergency bag Willow had made for him when they were in freshman year and ran the fifteen blocks to Giles and Ms. Calendar’s.
Giles stepped into the room and sat down in the easy chair, looking supremely uncomfortable.
“Uh, hey,” said Xander awkwardly, not sure how to deal with Giles this early in the morning. “I can, I can leave,” he fumbled, all of his determined conviction dissipating at the concept of being unwelcome.
“No, it’s fine.” Giles took off his glasses, polishing them furiously. “Jenny’s under the impression that—well, that your home life isn’t exactly ideal, and she wanted me to extend an invitation for you to spend some time here. A-at least until you’ve figured out a more permanent living situation.”
This was when Xander caught sight of Faith, leaning against a wall and watching him from behind a history textbook in the kitchen. “You sure you guys have enough space for me?” he said awkwardly, trying not to let on that he’d seen Faith listening in.
“Not for anything permanent,” Ms. Calendar answered shortly, entering the room and sitting down on the arm of Giles’s chair, “but you can crash on our couch for the rest of the school year if that’s the way things are looking with your parents.”
Xander breathed out. Ms. Calendar looked unusually angry, but he got the sense that it wasn’t directed at him. “I don’t—I don’t know,” he said finally. “I—ran away, once, a few years back, but I ended up going back."
Ms. Calendar and Giles exchanged a look that Xander didn’t quite get. Then Ms. Calendar said in a strained tone of voice, “You should have told us things with your parents were bad enough for you to want to run away, Xander.”
“Right, when you’d just been tortured by a crazy vampire and Giles had skipped town because he couldn’t deal?” Xander was being awful, he knew that, but if they focused in on how awful he was being then maybe they wouldn’t get as upset about the other thing he’d just said. He didn’t want their pity. “You had a lot on your plate last summer. No way I was adding to it.”
Giles looked down and didn’t say anything.
Ms. Calendar nodded to herself. “Okay,” she said quietly. Then, louder, “Okay. Xander, you are staying here. Rupert, Faith, we’re not going in to school today, I’ll call us all in sick. This is—” She drew in a sharp, pained breath. “You should have told us,” she said, and exited the room, hurrying down the hallway and into the kitchen.
Giles’s expression was unreadable, his eyes downcast.
“That was a low blow on my part,” said Xander awkwardly. “About you not being able to deal. Sorry about that.”
“The worst accusations are the ones with truth to them,” said Giles quietly, and looked up. “If the people around me are getting hurt and I am so willing to overlook it on so many different occasions, it’s safe to say that I, as you so aptly put it, can’t deal.”
“Yeah, well,” Xander shrugged, feeling suddenly awful, “it’s not your job to take care of me. It’s your job to train Buffy.”
Giles looked over his shoulder and down the hallway. In the kitchen, Ms. Calendar was leaning down to place her hand on Faith’s shoulder and saying something that Xander couldn’t hear. “I think I need to re-evaluate my job options,” said Giles.
Giles drove everyone down to a diner in the same part of town as the Bronze. While Xander and Faith were having a stilted conversation about school and putting overly gratuitous amounts of syrup on their waffles, Giles and Jenny went out under the guise of getting money from an ATM and had the first genuine alone time they’d managed in weeks.
“I feel awful,” said Jenny miserably. “I mean, he made allusions, but I never thought—god, and Willow’s parents are never around either, and I just ignored her in favor of Faith, Rupert why are there so many kids in my life that I’m doing such a shitty job of taking care of—”
“It truly isn’t as simple as that,” Giles managed. He felt even worse than Jenny. “You—you’ve been trying to mentor and support three children at the same time, completely on your own. I’ve been single-mindedly focused on you and Buffy, and I haven’t once considered that the rest of the children could use my presence as well.” He took off his glasses, polishing them even though he knew they were clean. He didn’t want to look at Jenny. “This is more my fault than it is yours.”
“You know,” said Jenny, “I kinda wish it was still last year. My biggest problems then were relationship drama and a homicidal vampire targeting me.”
Giles tried to laugh. It didn’t really work.
“You think he’ll be okay on our couch for now?” Jenny asked, still sounding thoroughly wrung out. “The house isn’t really big enough for you, me, him, Faith, and a bunch of your books.”
“We’ll work out something more permanent eventually,” Giles answered. “Right now, I think it’s most important that we’re there for him.”
Jenny snorted. “You realize the irony in saying that when we’re walking down the street away from him, right?”
“You make a good point.” Giles took Jenny’s hand, turning them back around toward the diner.
Faith had finished her waffles and had ordered herself and Xander two milkshakes by the time Giles and Jenny got back. “It’s a celebration breakfast,” she was explaining with determined cheer. “This is how you celebrate getting away from shitty parents. Day after I left my mom, I—” She stopped talking when she saw them both, taking a long sip of her milkshake to cover it up.
Jenny sat down next to Faith and hugged her, hard. Giles, after a moment of frightened hesitation, sat down next to Xander and began a panicked mental debate with himself about whether or not Xander now expected a hug.
“I’m fine,” Faith was saying to Jenny, but her voice caught a little and she hugged Jenny back. “Sheesh. Just—trying to be helpful.”
“I’m very proud of you,” Jenny whispered, and let go of Faith, turning to Giles and Xander. “Rupert, calm down, I don’t think Xander needs a hug. Xander, you want any more food?”
Xander shrugged distantly. “I’m good,” he said. “I’m full, I think.”
“Cool.” Jenny took a sip of her half-finished coffee. “We should get going, then.”
“Jenny, you can’t just have coffee and count that as breakfast,” Giles objected.
Jenny waved a hand dismissively. “Xander, Faith, we’re going to drop you off at the house so that Rupert and I can run a few errands,” she said.
“Errands?” Faith echoed, frowning. “What kind of errands?”
“Nothing you need to worry about,” said Jenny in a suspiciously breezy tone of voice.
Giles had the distinct sense that whatever they were doing would probably upset one or both of the children. Honestly, the fact that this woman had hidden her secret motives from him for months last year was something he would never be able to understand; she was absolutely horrible at hiding her motives right now. Gracefully, he covered for her. “Groceries,” he said helpfully.
“And we can’t come why?” Faith inquired.
Xander smiled a little, looking up. “Yeah, last I remember it was you guys getting into a fight at the grocery store,” he quipped, which made Giles feel a bit better.
“Because we want to maintain our dignity and pretend that that was an isolated incident,” said Jenny with relief, shooting Giles a thank-you look. “So we’re going to drive you two home and you’re going to watch cartoons while Rupert and I buy groceries.”
They didn’t buy groceries.
Tony Harris had left for work, Jessica Harris was out actually buying groceries, and Jenny (being the impulsive and furious woman that she was) was now attempting to break into his house with a bobby pin. “That son of a bitch, scaring his kid enough to run him out of the house,” she was muttering ominously. “I’m going to take Xander’s stuff and I’m going to take a few other things too just so that asshole can—”
Placing a calming hand on the small of Jenny’s back, Giles reminded her, “First of all, dear, I’m fairly certain that the maneuver you’re attempting only works with practice. Also, you’ve overlooked the fact that his key is under the welcome mat.”
Jenny looked up. “What? Oh. Oh, god, Rupert, why did I not think of that—”
Giles turned Jenny away from the door and into his arms, reaching around her to unlock the door. She turned her face into his jacket, resting her cheek on his shoulder very briefly before they broke apart. “Do you know what we need?” he inquired.
“I don’t know,” said Jenny. “Everything. I don’t know.” She opened the door, hurrying into the house. “Find a bag somewhere, just, just take everything out to the car.”
Giles leaned against the doorframe, suddenly exhausted. There were too many moving pieces in his life, all of a sudden, too many things he’d invested himself in. Part of himself wanted to re-enter that mentality of the Council being the most important part of his life, but the Council wouldn’t condone what he was doing right now, and something about that made Giles more than a little certain that he wasn’t the type of Watcher they’d want.
Maybe he wasn’t the Watcher type at all. Most other Watchers didn’t have a past that involved joining a rebellious demon-raising cult and having a clearly unstable romantic relationship with a clearly unstable chaos mage. Most other Watchers had already accepted a solitary life as fact—
Jenny threw a bag of clothing down the stairs. “Honey,” she called, sounding stretched thin, “I get that you’re feeling awful, because I do too, but we really need to speed things up here if we’re going to get out of this house without getting caught.”
This’ll make truly excellent material for my Watcher diaries, Giles thought as he picked up the bag of clothing and exited towards Jenny’s car. Breaking into a civilian home. He picked up the bag, taking it out to the car.
Jenny came down to the car with two more bags, both significantly full. “There wasn’t actually a lot of stuff,” she said, shoving the bags violently into the backseat of her car. “Just a lot of clutter. I’m gonna have to apologize to Xander; this isn’t exactly the neatest packing job.”
Giles placed the bag of clothing down and pulled Jenny into his arms. She made a choked noise and buried her face in his shoulder, and some part of him felt comforted by the certainty of her. He felt like he was on the verge of figuring out something important, but he couldn’t quite discern what just yet.

Can’t lie and say I didn’t miss Cam. Weeks had gone by without hearing a word from her. My phone calls weren’t returned, and I didn’t bother with leaving voicemails or texting her. I figured if she wanted to talk to me, she would; maybe she was serious about not seeing me until our daughter made her arrival. God, I hoped not.
A nigga was lonely as hell.
With only a few more weeks until Cam’s due date, my anxiety was starting to seep in. Her nursery in my house was nowhere near finished. I still had to actually buy her linen and get her walls painted, which I had to remember to ask a friend of mine to handle for me. I had diapers and bibs and sippy cups all set and ready for her when we brought her home; problem was, Cam and I hadn’t discussed which she was coming home to first. I assumed her own so her mother can help out if needed, but I didn’t see an invitation extending in my direction - not in the situation we were currently in.
“Bro!” I blinked in the direction of his pale skin, snapping his fingers in front of my face. He burst into laughter hard enough for his hollow cheeks to blush pink. “Damn, you good?”
I nodded, wet my lips with my tongue. “I’m straight. So will you do it for me? I can offer you five hundred.”
He pondered it a moment as he stroked his goatee and shrugged. “Shit, yeah. I ain’t gon’ turn down some cash. What type of vibe you goin’ with?”
This is where I was stumped. What do girls like in their bedrooms beside a bunch of pink shit? Looking like pepto bismol exploded. Made me sick - pun intended. I scratched my hair and shrugged. “Shit, I don’t know. Girly shit, but not too girly. If you can use colors other than pink, that’d be fantastic.”
“Can I see the space so I know what I’m workin’ with?”
I easily unlocked my phone and went to my photos app, passing my phone into his grasp. “It’s kinda big. I don’t know how big of a canvas you’re used to.”
He flipped through the pictures and pursed his lips. “I’ve only worked with something this big once before, but I’m not one to walk away from a challenge. Consider it done. Just let me know what you want me to get started.”
“As soon as possible. Let’s shoot for the weekend, cool?” I held out my hand and we dapped. “I really appreciate you doin’ this, nigga.”
“Glad to help out when I can. I’ll make sure I make this extra special for your lil princess.” His phone vibrated in his hand and he wasted no time in grinning at the screen, pressing the device to his ear with a wicked smile. “Wassup, baby? Nah, I’m on my way right now. Just make sure you ready for me, babe.” He winked over at me. “Hit me up later, bro. I’m out.” I watched him walk away, and he damn near giggled into the phone. “I’m talkin’ to my nigga! Look, just get ya fine ass in that outfit I bought for you. I’m on my way.”
I rubbed a hand down my face and hunched back into the seat. I felt around for my phone and dialed Jermaine. “Nigga keep me from goin’ home to an empty ass house. Let’s go to the shooting range or something.”
He only laughed at my anguish. “Mel and the kids are out for the afternoon. Come over and we’ll fire up the Playstation. You’re overdue for an ass whoopin’ anyway.”
“I’m gonna ignore your pussy threat and take you up on your offer.” I stood from where I was sitting and hit the locks on my car keys. “Make sure you leave the light on for me, honey.” “Nigga fuck you!”
“You really ain’t been home in a week? Damn.” His squad was currently winning in our game of Call of Duty only because I was distracted. It bothered me that Cam could go into labor at any minute and I wasn’t too sure she would let me know. She coulda already had our daughter and I wasn’t in the know. It grinded my gears but I guess I should only blame myself, huh?
“You think she would tell me if she went into labor?”
He shrugged, “Honestly? I haven’t known her to be that petty. I think she would tell you, but maybe not invite you to be there while she goes through it. I know I sure wouldn’t.”
I snapped my gaze to his. “And why not?’
“Because you’re an asshole.” I paused the game, he sighed, and I sat up to face him as a way to urge him to go on. “I ain’t about to kiss your ass and be a yes man. You were wrong for what you said and how you said it.”
“It’s been weeks, though,” I defended myself. “Wouldn’t she be over that by now?”
“Nigga, she’s hormonal as fuck right now. The tiniest shit will make her hold a grudge. You ain’t know that?” He rubbed his chin. “I forgot to get Mel her favorite ice cream one time when she was pregnant with the twins, wouldn’t look at me for a week. And don’t get me started on how long she made me wait to fuck. Thought my dick was gonna fall off!”
I frowned. “You two had sex while she was pregnant?”
He threw a pillow at my face. “You’re missing the point!”
Still, the idea of having sex while pregnant made me cringe. How did it work without puncturing the amniotic fluid the baby was resting in? How Sway? Besides, I was more than a freak and I’m sure it required some gentleness. Ain’t no such thing when it comes to me and sex, and Cam knew that. Abstaining from sex was probably better for the three of us.
Once again, for the second time that day, fingers were being snapped in front of my face. “You need to apologize. Even if you don’t feel like you’re to blame, you ain’t even gotta do it for her sake. But you need to be there for your little girl. Gotta do some serious ass kissing.”
The garage door swung open and two little people jetted inside, blowing right past their dad to jump into my lap. “Uncle Twey!”
Both of them were nothing but big eyes and bouncing hair. I hugged them tightly and brushed Jayla’s hair away from her face to poke her nose. “What’s up? You two have fun today?”  Xavier nodded and toyed with the gold chain around my neck. I tugged it off and dropped it around his neck; his pupils grew in size. “Think you can keep that safe for me, lil man?”
He nodded, gawking.
“Is your baby here yet?” Jayla climbed up closer to me and squished my cheeks. “I wanna play with her.”
“Not yet, baby.” Or so I hoped. “Very soon. I’m gonna need your help taking care of her, you gonna help me?” She nodded with excitement. “That’s my girl. Now go get ready for bed, you two.” I stood to my feet as they ran off in a hurry, and found Melissa grinning at me. “What?”
“You made up to Cameron yet?”
Jermaine squeezed her side and shot her a look. “Mel!”
I blushed in embarrassment. “Nigga, you told your girl?”
“Language,” she scolded. “But yes, he told me. It’s not my business but I can see both sides to the argument, if we’re being honest.”
“You do?” we both echoed.
“She was being overprotective, you were being immature. The end.” She shrugged one of her shoulders and padded her way into the kitchen. I could only watch her, in shock. A woman who was neutral to a situation instead of automatically siding with another woman? Unheard of. “Jumba, where’s your wallet? I ordered some Chinese food to be delivered.”
Jermaine felt around his pockets and frowned. “Yo you got any cash on you?”
I held up forty bucks and joined her in the kitchen. “It’s on me tonight, sis.” We both kissed each other’s cheeks and Jermaine nodded in appreciation. “You rollin’ with me tonight or what?”
He looked down at her, licked his lips slowly, and shrugged apologetically. “About that…”
I laughed out loud. “Message received. I’ll see y’all later.”
Yet another unanswered phone call to Cameron, and I finally decided to let it be. It would hurt like hell to know I missed the birth of my firstborn, but could I honestly be mad at that? It was Cameron’s choice whether I was with her or not, the ball was in her court.
I even sat in front of her house for a few minutes, debating on whether or not to just face her. I wanted to get to the bottom of this, but my sliver of hope was withering away.
I drove away from her curb and found myself on the other side of the town. A place I knew I shouldn't be, but here I was. The dimly lit warehouse was practically unnoticed by any regular passerby. But if you knew what goes on behind the scenes, you could call it a second home.
I don't. I hated the place with every inch of me. I only came here because I thrived off my authority.
I completely ignored the half-dressed women exploiting themselves simply for the niggas’ pleasure. They were damn near drooling as they rubbed their zippers. I could have thrown up.
“Pick your poison.” Spyder had a whole catalogue of half-empty bottles of booze across his table. “Please, take a seat.”
I sat, but declined his toxic offer.
“I haven't seen you around in a while.”
I nodded. “Things have come up.” I just didn't feel like coming, honestly.
“What type of wager looks good to you now that you're back? This is your playground, son.”
I shrugged my shoulders, “I haven't really been keeping up with anything lately. What have I missed?”
This amused him, and his gold tooth glimmered as he smiled. “The biggest game of the season is coming up, aside from the championship. Warriors against the Cavs. Who you got and for how much?”
“Shit,” I muttered. It was a tough call. “I'm gonna have to go with the Warriors like I have all season. No choice but to. As for how much...I'm not sure.”
“Let's make it interesting. One hundred and twenty thousand.”
I stared at him. I had money, but not that kind of money. I had a daughter to think about. I know exactly what they did to niggas who couldn't come up with the money. Needless to say, we never saw them again.
“Come on,” he murmured, leaning back in his chair and tossing his feet up on the table. “Has your team steered you wrong at all this season?”
I shook my head.
“For as long as you've been here, you and I never bet on anything. Let's make it one for the books.” He stuck out a hand and I stood, slipping my own into his. His grin disappeared and he yanked me forward so that he was right by my ear. “You lose, you have seventy-two hours to come up with the money. Is that clear?”
I felt two men flank me on either side just in case I tried some slick shit. I gulped and nodded. “I understand.” He let me go and his smile returned like he didn't just threaten my life. I stumbled away from his table and past the two guards, suddenly feeling sick to my stomach. The night breeze pacified my sickness enough until I could make it to my car and drive off.
I was shaken to my core and I was regretting even showing up tonight. Something in my gut told me things wouldn't go according to plan, but then again maybe I was overthinking.
Surely I couldn't lose. I hadn't lost in about a year. I didn't know what losing was. I just hoped I wouldn't have to learn a lesson after all this time.
