xu baobei ♡ [21:23]: We need to talk.
xu baobei ♡ [21:24]: Call me when you see this.
Those two text messages glare at you every time you pick up your phone, waves of dread coursing through your body as you start speculating the reason as to why your boyfriend had sent the texts so out of the blue.
Is he angry at you? For what reason? Is he going to break up with you? For what reason? You don’t think you’ve done anything to upset him lately, so what could be the issue?
Countless thoughts are flooding your mind as you pace around the living room of your apartment, debating whether to call him or not. If he really wanted to break up with you, wouldn’t you be sending yourself to death’s door by calling him?
Sighing, you bite your lip and decide to text him instead.
you [22:12]: talk about what?
Almost immediately, your ringtone blares through the speakers of your phone, and you nearly drop the phone in shock. Sure enough, the caller ID reads your boyfriend’s contact name, and you sigh in dread, taking a seat on the couch and mentally preparing yourself for what’s about to come.
“Hello?” you say as soon as you pick up, your heart rate picking up.
“y/n,” Minghao replies, his voice stern yet soft, like he can’t bring himself to be fully angry at you.
There’s silence for a short while, and you feel like you’re going to explode any second.
“Are you…” you break the silence, nearly trembling, “are you breaking up with me?”
On the other end of the line, you hear something drop. “What? No, y/n, I’m not breaking up with you. What made you think that way?”
“You- you sounded really scary in your texts,” you mumble, internally relieved that your boyfriend isn’t planning on breaking up with you.
“Text messages don’t carry tone in them, silly,” Minghao chuckles.
“I heard you went to the hospital. From Mingyu,” Minghao pipes up after a moment of silence, and everything clicks in your head.
You had indeed been to the hospital the day before upon suddenly passing out while hanging out with Mingyu’s sister, who’d sent you to the emergency room immediately out of fear that something serious had happened to you. Thankfully, the reason why you’d passed out had been due to fatigue, and you subsequently begged her not to tell anyone about it, despite her objections.
You’re guessing that she had told Mingyu about it, which you don’t blame her for, and that’s how you’ve ended up in this situation now.
“I did,” you reply simply, looking down at your feet.
“Are you feeling better now? What happened?” Minghao asks immediately after your reply.
“I’m okay now, it wasn’t serious,” you assure your boyfriend, “The doctor said it was due to fatigue.”
“Are you not eating and sleeping well?” Minghao replies with yet another question, worry laced in his voice. “Should I move back in?”
You start to panic a little at the idea of Minghao coming back to live in your shared home, seeing as to how he had moved to the dorm temporarily to prepare for their upcoming comeback, quickly refuting, “It’s okay, Hao, I’m okay! I think I just skipped a few meals because of work, I’ll make sure to have my meals regularly!”
Minghao pauses, then hums in response, seemingly not satisfied with your answer.
“Why… didn’t you tell me? I could’ve been there,” Minghao’s voice becomes softer, and you sense a bit of hurt in his tone, breaking your heart a little.
“I— I didn’t want to worry you, Hao,” you began, eyes downturned, “You have a concert and a comeback coming up that’s more important.”
“Nothing’s more important than you, y/n.” Minghao replies without missing a beat, catching you by surprise. “I’m your boyfriend, y/n, you can talk to me if anything happens. What if- what if something serious had happened, and I wasn’t there?”
Minghao’s vulnerable tone breaks your heart, and you frown at his words. Throughout your relationship, such a situation had never happened before, and thinking in his perspective, you completely understand why he’s upset, making you all the more upset at your actions.
“I know, Hao, I- I would want you to let me know if anything happened to you, too. I’m really sorry.” you apologise, wishing he were physically beside you so you could hug him.
Minghao sighs, clearly not wanting to escalate the issue for no reason. “It’s okay, darling, just let me know in the future, hm? I love you.”
“I will, Hao. I love you too,” you reply like it’s second nature, because it is.
A comfortable silence ensues for a while, the two of you at ease knowing that your hearts beat for each other despite the physical distance.
“Also, I’m moving back in. Comeback preparations are more or less done, anyway, and I believe making sure a certain someone eats regularly is much more important,” Minghao jests, and you hear some rustling in the background. “I’m on the way.”
You chuckle. You really don’t know what you did to deserve this man, but you know you won’t be letting him go anytime soon.

i. "hi." (fallow is the colour of dryness to my mouth when your eyes met mine.)
There's no way in hell you're going to let yourself be lost on the first day of university.
It's embarrassing enough accidentally waking up past your alarm and having barely any time to freshen up as much as you would like, so right now, you couldn't afford another disaster.
Taking a deep breath, you double-check your schedule and the layout of the campus on your phone, trying to match it with the signs around you. The different buildings and hallways of the campus seem like a maze in of itself, and you can feel the slight panic course up your veins. A sea of students rush past you, seemingly confident in their strides towards their own classes. A defeated sigh leaves you.
All you had to do was find the stupid art hallway.
You clench your phone tighter, your iron grip practically burning a hole through the screen. The campus map app wasn't making any more sense now than it did a minute ago. Frustration stings painfully at your eyes, but begging the earth to swallow you whole wouldn't get you to class any faster, so you force yourself to scan the crowd. There's bound to be at least someone who knows where it is and is willing to help you.
And so, your eyes catch sight of the first figure appearing conveniently in your peripheral vision𑁋a boy, dressed in a casual fallow-coloured flannel with a backpack casually slung over one of his shoulders, earphones in his ears, and peering down at something on his phone just like you were doing minutes ago (though he seems to be having a much better time than you)𑁋which was somehow enough for your feet to bolt you towards as if it had a mind of its own.
You feel the root of your nerves creep up your legs and branch up to your neck as you approach him, realising at this point, there's no turning back now. You tap him lightly on the shoulder, bracing yourself for a possible eye roll or annoyed sigh.
His eyes widen in surprise before settling on you, and at that moment, something strikes hard at whatever rehearsed lines you had in your head. It was all gone in a simple snap, from a simple look from him𑁋soft yet sharp brown eyes framed by dark lashes peering at you with a hint of surprise, fluffy dark hair showering down his neck and forehead a little, a dainty pair of silver earrings glinting at his ears. His whole face seems to hold a warmth that somehow eases a bit of the knot in your chest, but certainly not the one in your throat.
You open your mouth, but all the words die on your tongue. The air hangs heavy with a sudden awkwardness, and you can practically feel your cheeks burning. Maybe you should just turn around and pretend this never happened.
But then, you notice the way his lips lift up just slightly, and it makes your stomach do a flip. He glances down at his phone for a second, takes off his earphones, then brings his attention back at you.
"Hi," is all he says, and maybe, just maybe, your heart stops a little bit. It's just a simple word, but the way he says it𑁋all soft, quiet, a tad bit hesitant𑁋makes the fabric of your shirt feel tight on your body.
You didn't notice you were clenching your fists until you force them to relax at your side, clearing your throat in the process.
"Hi," You manage back nervously, surprised at how breathless you sound. "Sorry, I-I don't mean to intrude. It's just... Do you happen to know where the art hallway is? I'm trying to find my photography class."
You watch the way he tucks a loose strand of hair behind his ear, unveiling more of a view of his piercings. He gazes briefly behind you at the clusters of other students gradually spilling into different hallways, hushing the space where the two of you stood. Then he returns his attention back to you, his expression softening slightly.
"You're not that far off," he comments, seemingly amused. "I was just heading there myself too."
"Really? That's a relief. The campus map is awful and confusing, and I swear this place was designed on purpose for you to get lost in, you know? And being lost on the first day is just..." You quickly shut your mouth up from your rambling, letting your voice fade into an embarrassed chuckle instead.
Your gaze falls to the ground for a moment, and when you pick your head back up to look at him, you catch a glimpse of the small curve that he has at his lips, barely a hint of a smile playing there. It's a small detail, but suddenly it feels like the most important thing in the world, and it throws your train of thought completely off track. He doesn't seem bothered by your little habit of rambling (admittedly, because of nerves), thankfully. Instead, he lets out a soft laugh, the sound washing over you like a warm summer breeze.
You can't help but sheepishly grin back, feeling a certain lightness bloom within your chest that probably has nothing to do with the weight of your backpack suddenly seeming lighter as well.
"It's okay," he reassures, voice as quiet and gentle as his gaze. "Everyone gets lost here sometimes. I've been there."
He starts walking, and you hesitate for a second before falling into step beside him. There's a small part of you urging to get to know him, as if this was the only opportunity to do so, but all the words you want to say sound clumsy and loud compared to the easy peacefulness that surrounds him.
And honestly, it feels... nice.
The hallway he leads you in is perhaps more than just a simple art hallway, the intoxicating scent of oil paint and clay blend together in the air. Paintings by students and faculty of every style imaginable line the walls, some bursting with vibrant colours, others muted and contemplative. Sculptures poke out from odd corners, and bulletin boards are overflowed with announcements of upcoming exhibitions and workshops, even though the year just started.
"Welcome to the art hallway," he beckons you casually and welcomingly, as if only this portion of the campus was a separate entity than others.
You let out a breath you didn't realise you were holding in. "Thank you so much. Wow, this place is, um..." You stop yourself from continuing on, zipping your mouth shut. "I owe you. Oh, I'm Y/N, by the way. If there's anything I can𑁋"
"There's no need." He waves a hand dismissively at your offer, and for a second you feel something inside you sink, but the small hint of a smile to his face chases that feeling away just a little. "And it's Minghao... yeah. I'll see you around."
Before you can say anything more, you watch as he turns himself around and swiftly enters inside the room standing right behind him. A painting class.
(You are eight minutes late to class when a near-clear picture on the wall catches your gaze. It looks like a picture of Minghao standing next to a particularly vibrant painting of abstract art, and your heart swells just a little bit more.)

ii. "hi." (laurel is the colour of the grass that you lay on with me, gazing up at the same sky together.)
There was a time during Minghao's first year of college where a friend of his𑁋Lee Jihoon is his name𑁋called him crazy and bonkers for spending majority of his day outdoors rather than inside. Obviously, Minghao didn't exactly care, nor was it insulting in the slightest knowing Jihoon's stubbornness and tendency to stay holed up in his room buried under piles of music textbooks.
But he would be lying if he said he didn't appreciate the outdoors more than anything else, like from the way the sun kisses upon his skin, the gentle breeze that caresses his face, and the colours of nature that found him at his lowest times. Minghao thinks that's how he got into painting and art in the first place, though he didn't dwell on it too much. It all just came natural to him. He likes to think it that way𑁋that it found him instead.
The scenery of the campus is his oasis. He can do his own thing while others are walking through their own lives. He can sit outside for as long as he wants until dusk settles in and paints the sky with hues of orange and pink, or until the stars twinkle above and remind him that he's just an utter speck in the universe.
Today is no different.
Minghao finds himself sprawled out on the grass near the art building, sketchbook propped up against his bent knees, brow furrowed in concentration as he tries to capture the way the afternoon sunlight filters through the leaves of a nearby tree in his line of sight.
A low breeze runs through the air, stirring a few strands of hair across his forehead. He brushes them back absentmindedly, just as a sound cracks into the quietness.
"Hi!"
Minghao shoots his eyes up, slightly startled from the unexpected greeting. He catches sight of you slowly approaching up to him, a hesitant smile gracing your lips as you stop a few feet away.
"Hi," he replies, voice soft as he notices the way you're fiddling with something behind your back. "Vending machine did its ol' thing again?"
"Can you always read my mind?" You murmur, teasing annoyance biting at your words, but you can't contain the smile to your face either way. Maybe he can read your mind, but he's just skimming over it instead. "I can take it if you prefer to die from dehydration."
Minghao chuckles lightly. He glances down at the water bottle in your hand, then back at you, lingering for a beat longer than necessary. There's a flicker of amusement in his dark eyes, but also a hint of something𑁋maybe surprise, mischief, or perhaps a touch of shyness.
(You don't catch the way he subconsciously pushes the other water bottle he had stashed earlier deeper into his backpack.)
"Thanks." He accepts the water bottle from your hand, his fingers brushing against yours for a second, and takes a quick sip to cool his slightly parched throat.
Then he sets the water bottle down beside him, patting the grass next to him invitingly.
Without a word, you take a deep breath and lower yourself down onto the grass next to him. You catch the scent of the fresh paint lingering on his clothes and blending with the earthy aroma of the grass beneath you. The sunlight catches on the side of his face, highlighting some strands of hair flying in the breeze and the silver earrings reflecting in his ears.
There's a small groan that leaves you when you get yourself to lay fully down on the grass, using your backpack as a makeshift pillow. Minghao just peers in your direction curiously, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips as he watches you settle in.
"You know," You sigh, letting out a contented breath as you spread your arms out a little, fixing your eyes up towards the sky. "This is actually really nice, hanging outside and all, but I am so out of shape. You pick the worst spots."
Minghao's smile widens a fraction at your words. He shifts his own gaze to the sky, observing as the clouds drift lazily overhead, fingertips kneading at the laurel-coloured grass below. The soft yet vibrant green reminds him of a new set of paints he recently bought.
"I think you'll survive lying on a patch of grass, Y/N."
"Not if I get up and there's a goddamn earthworm crawling in my ear, Hao."
"Just don't fall asleep, and you'll live."
You let out a giggle, though you wouldn't be lying if you said that the warmth hitting your body was making you feel just the tiniest bit of drowsy. "No promises there."
The silence that lingers between you and Minghao isn't uncomfortable, but it's not exactly filled with chatter either. It's a comfortable silence, with the distant sounds of other students laughing like white noise and the occasional rustle of a breeze flying past your ears.
It's always like this when you're here together, a quiet that feels more familiar than the few months you've known him. Whether it's your little study sessions at the library, or when you hang out with him after hours in his painting class, it's familiar being around him. The thought settles around you like a well-worn blanket, a comfort you didn't know you craved until you found it here.
You glance over back at Minghao, who seems to be focused back on his sketchbook. He taps his pencil against his bottom lip in concentration. There's a small smudge of charcoal on his nose that you pinpoint, just hardly noticeable, but it makes you want to reach out and brush it away with your thumb.
The bold thought makes your stomach churn.
"Lay down with me, Hao."
The words leave you before you can stop them, surprising even yourself. A blush creeps up your neck, warming your cheeks as you continue watching Minghao. He's still focused on his sketchbook, but the tapping of his pencil against his lip has ceased. He looks down at you, eyes widening slightly in surprise before softening into a gentle smile.
"Lay down?" he asks, a teasing lilt in his voice.
"Y-Yeah," You stammer, suddenly wishing you'd phrased it differently. "I mean, if you want. The sky looks better from here, you know?"
Minghao just tilts his head to the side as if in contemplation, before closing his sketchbook and shifting his position. He tosses his backpack right next to yours, laying himself down on the grass and stretching his body in relief. The grass crinkles softly beneath him, his arm briefly brushing against yours, and you can feel the warmth radiating from his body as he settles in, peering up at the sky with you.
He's painted the sky many times, but for some reason, it feels different looking at it right now, and he isn't entirely sure why.
"What's the weirdest colour you've painted with?"
The sudden question makes Minghao sit up slightly, leaning on his elbow to face you better. The corners of his lips are pulled up in the hint of a smirk.
"Goose turd green."
His eyes detail the way your face contorts in slight disgust, before nothing but laughter tumbles out of you, and Minghao thinks he'd never get tired of hearing that sound.

iii. "hi." (vermilion is the colour that seeps through my cheeks when the alcohol beats me and i think about you.)
"Y/N𑁋jeez, how much did they drink tonight?"
"I don't even know𑁋woah, hey! Hold them steady, wait..."
"I'll take them back to their place," Minghao tells the other two boys struggling to keep you from falling over in their hold.
Mingyu and Seokmin stare at him for a second, exchanging a glance with each other before guiding you into Minghao's hold carefully. Minghao secures an arm around your waist, loosely at first, before tightening instantly because you're just about to fall out of his grip. He bids the other guys goodbye, then sets off with you towards your dorm.
"Are you alright?" he asks, even though he knows the answer already. "I told you before that you should know your limits."
You giggle, a wobbly, off-key sound. "Oh, I feel peachy, thank you so much."
Minghao just sighs, shaking his head slightly as he adjusts his hold on you, making sure you're steady on your feet.
The walk back to your dorm is painfully slow. Streetlights cast an orange glow on the sidewalk, painting long shadows that seem to dance alongside you. You lean heavily against Minghao, head hanging down to the ground, your footsteps unsteady. The world seems to tilt and sway with every giggle that escapes you.
Your vision is a bit blurry when your dorm comes into sight. Relief washes over you, and you lean even heavier into Minghao, practically melting into him by the time you reach your door and it swings open.
He steps you inside, moving you past the shoe rack by the entrance and towards your bed, and you flop down on the plush mattress with a low groan, nearly dragging down Minghao on top of you.
He catches himself just in time, a hand landing on the mattress beside you with a soft thud, and suddenly he's hovering above you, his breath catching with the sudden closeness of his body pressed up against yours. However, it just makes a laugh bubble out of your throat from deep within your chest, and with half-lidded eyes, you find yourself staring dazedly up at him.
"Wow, hiiii, you're like..." You drawl your words and tap aimlessly at his shoulder. "You're like... so pretty, you know? Have I told you that before?"
Heat creeps up Minghao's neck. He blinks down at you, eyes trailing over your face and cheeks which were stained a soft shade of vermilion from all the alcohol earlier. A small, surprised airy laugh escapes his lips.
He opens his mouth to respond, but nothing comes out. And even after pulling away from you, you continue, voice thick with inebriation.
"And your smile? Oh, don't even get me started," You slur, a goofy grin plastered on your face. "Those big, cute eyes you have? They, like, make the whole world look... sparkly."
"Y/N, you need𑁋"
"And whenev... whenever you paint," You continue, voice trailing off away. The world seems to be spinning a little slower now, the grin to your face faltering for a moment, replaced by a furrowed brow as you try to focus on the thought. "Yeah, whenever you paint... you get this... this really focused look on your face. Like the world fades away and all that's left is the canvas. It's kind of... hot."
Minghao could simply only stare at you. He knows he should probably get you settled into bed and leave, but his feet seem rooted to the floor below. His gaze flickers up and down your face, then back up to your eyes, searching for any sign of what you just said being a joke. But all he sees is a genuine, albeit slightly hazy and inebriated, fondness.
"You think so?" he finally manages to ask.
"Yeah," You mumble knowingly as if instinctive, eyelids drooping closed a little further. "Makes you look, uh... determined. Like you could𑁋like you could paint the stars out of the sky or something."
Minghao cowers his head down for a second, before looking back up at you, crossing his arms together bemusedly. "Do you want me to paint the stars for you?"
You give a dreamy nod. In your cloudy mind, the idea sounds incredibly romantic, like something out of a dream.
"I think..." You start once again. "that would really make me like you even more."
Minghao feels his lips twitch, somewhat hopeful yet also reluctant, before letting out another sigh.
"You need to go to bed." He walks back over and helps pull the covers over you. "I'll leave you some water and meds to take in the morning, okay?"
A pang of disappointment shoots through you as he pulls away, a sleepy pout crossing over your features. You watch him with heavy eyelids, the room tilting ever so slightly with each passing beat of your heart.
"Wait," You murmur, grabbing weakly at his sleeve.
Minghao turns back around. You're looking at him, eyes a little more focused now, a hint of a playful smile on your lips, and shooting him a look that means business.
"Don't forget the stars, okay, mister?"

iv. "hi." (pewter is the colour of the clouds when the earth can't hold it in much longer, and the words burst all at once.)
It hits you on a random Wednesday near the end of the month during an exam on English Romanticism that you simply can't stand this anymore.
You're avoiding Minghao, purposely attending more study sessions that your classmates offer and taking up more shifts at the small café across from campus that you applied for a while ago to make some extra bucks. You know you're avoiding him, and he probably knows it too, and it's all your fault𑁋you're letting him get away and slip through the cracks between your fingers.
Minghao's art had been selected for a prestigious exhibition out of town, and he was set to leave at the end of the month for this internship just as summer is starting, and the thought of him being gone brings a hollow ache to your chest. It's becoming unbearable each passing day, each millisecond that passes knowing you've been so stupidly immature to push him away when he's quite literally been the best thing that has happened to you.
You may never understand how Xu Minghao𑁋this sophisticated, well-mannered, and endlessly talented artist𑁋had managed to wriggle his way into your heart so effortlessly, but there he was, occupying every crevice and corner with his gentle smiles and soft laughter that seem to flip the world over. He was just this sentient, living breathing form of peace that you can’t seem to let go of.
When another boom of thunder shatters outside, you think, screw this.
Screw avoiding him. This wasn't how this story was supposed to end.
You're quick to shove your belongings back in your bag the moment your class ends. The rain has calmed down a little when you step outside, which only seems to fuel the determination within you.
With a deep breath, you pull your jacket tighter against your body, and start to spring across campus. The rain might be getting heavier with each passing minute, but you don't care. All you care about is getting to Minghao before the storm within you bursts too.
Reaching his dorm building, you're merely a shivering mess, hair damp and plastered to your forehead and clothes clinging uncomfortably to your skin. You barely have the breath to push open the heavy doors, collapsing against them for a moment to catch your breath.
But just as you're about to push open the door, a figure blocks your way, and you peer up to see Minghao standing in front of you. There's an umbrella clutched in his hand, and a puzzled look etches across his features when he takes sight of your disheveled appearance in front of him. You could only gaze at him.
"Hi," You say breathlessly, as if you've been holding on to the singular word for dear life.
Minghao just blinks a few times, unsure if he's looking at you as if you were crazy or if he's just imagining you.
"Hi," he finally responds, voice all gentle and slightly hesitant.
You glance down at the umbrella in his hand. "Are you going somewhere?"
Minghao opens his mouth to respond, also looking down at the umbrella in his hands as if magically appeared there out of thin air, then a bashful look crosses his face.
"I forgot some supplies back in class, so I thought I'd grab them before the storm gets any worse," he explains somewhat lamely, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "But I𑁋Are you... are you okay?"
You give a loose nod, then shake your head dismissively right afterwards. Gosh, you're losing it.
Minghao clears his throat. "What are you doing out here in the rain? You're going to get sick𑁋"
"You know I-I like you, right?" The words stumble clumsily over your tongue, shattering whatever fragile tension was building up between you two. "And you probably knew that already, to be honest, because you always seem to know me better than I know myself. But the thought of you leaving just... scared me, and I panicked and pushed you away."
A lump forms in your throat. Minghao's expression is practically unreadable in front of you. There's a mix of surprise, a hint of something that could be hurt, and something else you can't exactly decipher.
You let out a dry chuckle, embarrassment crawling up your face but you try to ignore it as much as you can.
"I-I know I sound crazy right now," You say, forcing a smile that seems more like a grimace. "But I... I couldn't let you leave without knowing how I feel. So yeah. I like you. A lot. Maybe more than that. I don't know. It sort of scares me, honestly."
You wait a few moments, simply standing there in the falling rain while anticipating just anything from the boy standing in front of you as if the world had come to a pause. His silence stretches suffocatingly long, nothing but a cloud swirling in those beautiful eyes of his.
Then he looks down at the umbrella in his hand for a moment, then back at you, his gaze lingering on your soaked clothes and shivering form. And just before you can spiral into a wave of panic, Minghao steps forward close to you. Without a word, he unfurls the umbrella and holds it over your head, tilting it slightly to ensure you're fully covered from the rain.
"Let's get you out of this rain," he says finally, low and calm. "You're freezing."
"I..." You start, then stop, giving a muted nod. "Okay."
Minghao leads you back inside his dorm building and up to his room, the warmth seeping overwhelmingly into your bones. He ushers you into his space, the door swinging shut with a soft click behind you.
You've been inside Minghao's room before, but it feels different now, more intimate somehow. The air hangs heavy as you awkwardly perch yourself on the edge of his bed, careful not to let the water dripping off you land on his sheets, and you watch as he quietly makes his way to his closet and disappears behind the hanging clothes. A moment later, he emerges with a soft, oversized hoodie and a towel in hand.
"Here." He holds out the towel and hoodie towards you. "Dry yourself off and change out of those clothes."
The softness of the towel against your skin is the equivalent to luxury as you meticulously pat down your hair and face. You shoot glances at Minghao across the room, seeing him busy himself at his desk, back turned to you, a low hum escaping his lips.
You slip on the oversized hoodie, the familiar scent of Minghao washing over you and instantly relaxing your jittery nerves. The sleeves hang past your fingertips, the material engulfing you in a comforting warmth.
"Feeling a little better?" Minghao asks, turning around to face you after a few minutes. You hardly notice the way his gaze sweeps over your form, lingering on the way the hoodie basically swallows you.
A shy, self-conscious look crosses your features. "Yeah, um... Thanks."
Minghao returns the smile, though there's a hint of something else in his eyes𑁋perhaps relief or maybe even a touch of fondness. "Always."
That particular silence passes again as you both sit in his room, the only sound the soft patter of rain against the window. You fidget nervously with the sleeves of his hoodie.
Then, you let out a sigh. "Look, Hao𑁋"
"Do you want anything to drink?"
The offer zips your mouth back up, leaving your unfinished words hanging in the air. Is he... trying to brush away everything that has just happened in the last fifteen minutes? All just like that? You nearly want to scoff at the thought, but you bite at your bottom lip instead, a pang of disappointment settling in your chest.
"Honestly?" You lay your hands flat on your lap. "I'd kill for a hot chocolate right now."
Minghao just chuckles softly. "Okay," Then another long, considerable pause. "Are you working at the café later on?"
The thought of working right now makes you cringe internally. "No, thank goodness. My shift actually got swapped with someone else. Lucky break, I guess."
The corners of Minghao's mouth lift up subtly. He glances back out the window, seeing that the rain had become much lighter and cleared up significantly, revealing the sky in a palette of muted greys. His gaze returns to you, a thoughtful expression painting his features.
"Let's go then," he asserts firmly, rising up to his feet.
You raise an eyebrow at him. "What? Right now? To the café?"
"Mhm."
"But you can't𑁋we can't just𑁋"
"It's a date," Minghao affirms, cutting your words off promptly. "My treat."
His words catch you off-guard, and for a moment, you're at a loss for words. Your mouth hangs down to the ground, warmth crawling up the cheeks just like the hot chocolate you desperately crave right now. You can feel your heart pounding furiously out of your chest and whatever tension coiling in your stomach dissipating away.
"A... date?" You squeak out, voice coming out small and weak.
Minghao's lips purse together in a thin line. "Unless you have other plans𑁋"
"Oh no, no, no," You blurt out, finding yourself already breathless for no reason at all, struggling to keep the giddy grin forming on your face at bay. "A date sounds perfect, actually."
Relief floods over Minghao's features. He lets out a little giggle, the kind that always makes your insides do a little happy flip.
"Good," he responds simply. "I'm glad."
"Do I get to pay next time?" You ask teasingly as you stand up. "If there is a next time, at least."
Nothing but amusement dances in his eyes.
"We'll see about that."
Tumblr media
v. "hi." (calamine is the colour staining your cheeks and your lips against my ear.)
Minghao's lips are on yours before you have the opportunity to breathe in the air of relief of the hotel room.
It's not hard for your body to melt into him instinctively, the kiss soft yet desperate, tender yet urgent. You find your fingers kneading at the silky material of the suit that he wore, and his hand coming to rest on your lower back. Both of your feet move in mere unison together before you feel the edge of the bed nudge the back of your knee.
When the two of you pull back for a minute to breathe, all you can do is faintly chuckle.
"You act like you haven't seen me in years," You tease, letting a hand come to toy with his tie. "Did you miss me that much?"
Minghao's gaze only flickers between your eyes, your lips, and down the outfit that seems to hug your body just perfectly, before settling back up to your face. His own face is close enough to yours that you swear you could pinpoint the flecks of stardust in his irises. He's simply staring at you with nothing but adoration, his gaze so intense like he's trying to memorise every little detail etched on your face, even if he's already done so many times. He's painted stars on your skin with his fingertips, lips, whispered words, and his heart.
And then he's kissing you again, more softly and slower this time, the weight of his body following your own as you fall back down on the bed behind.
Missing you is more than just an understatement. Being separated from you felt like this physical piece of him was missing from his chest. His art had been reaching the rightful hands of museums abroad just as he deserves, and you had gotten used to him travelling for days on end to attend exhibitions and workshops.
You jumped on the first opportunity to be able to visit him. And now, with you in his arms and your lips pressed against his, Minghao feels like he's finally whole again.
His mouth pulls away from the sweet spot to your neck, trailing a soft path back up to your lips, giving you a small kiss before pulling back to look at you. You hear the way his breath hitches in his throat, the feeling of his hand coming to interlock with yours at your side, the metal of the ring on his finger meeting your skin.
You peer up at him longingly, lovingly, a tiny smile playing at the corners of your lips.
"Hi," You whisper, a breathless laugh escaping you.
Minghao's gaze softens even further, his thumb tracing gentle circles on the back of your hand as he leans back down.
"Hi, dearest," he murmurs back affectionately, adjusting himself so that his mouth is near your ear, barely grazing against the shell as he whispers, "You're beautiful."
You could only giggle as he retreats himself away slightly, but you tug him by the tie again to bring him back down. "Yeah? What else?"
There's a thoughtful look that crosses over his features, his cheeks painted an ethereal shade of calamine pink, mirroring the flush of warmth that spreads across your own face. You've always grown accustomed to Minghao's fairly quiet nature, however it doesn't take much to read over even the most imperceptible shifts in his expressions. Whenever words seem to be too shy or hesitant to come out, the stars in his eyes speak for him.
Minghao just lowers himself even more, the ghost of his lips hardly brushing back against yours.
"I love you."

morning after with svt.
COLLABORATION WITH @kozukensgf 🎀
suggested by anon, i wrote these drabbles and the amazing hazel wrote the texts. read these first, and then the texts. (:
texts with svt (morning after ver) can be found here.
seungcheol is too soft for his own good. whether he has feelings for you or not, he's the type to stay around for a bit and wait until you wake up so he can say goodbye properly. will probably decline your offer of breakfast though (politely, of course).
jeonghan likes to watch you sleep, so of course he stays around too. if he's not that busy, he will also wait until you're awake to leave - but differently from cheol, he will accept your offer to eat first. now, if he has schedules that day, he'll be out the door as soon as you open your eyes.
joshua is a cutie, so he stays too. he actually wakes up after you, chasing after the sounds you're making around the house. he will be the one to offer to make breakfast or take you out to eat. it doesn't matter if he has feelings for you or not, he considers you a friend? so of course he'll treat you right (the sex is just a plus).
junhui feels kinda awkward once he wakes up. he knows he doesn't like you enough to have romantic feelings for you, so the intimacy of seeing you sleep or taking a shower with you is too overwhelming. he leaves before you wake up, but makes sure to leave a little something for you before he does.
hoshi is a heavy sleeper after sex, so chances are you'll wake up first. he's more than happy to see you still beside him scrolling through your phone as soon as he wakes up. he's the type to run his mouth about anything and everything, bonding with you beyond your steamy times. he's such a darling, he just wants you to be comfortable around him.
wonwoo is quiet, the morning after. he isn't sure if he likes you like that, but he does like your company, your body, the way you make him feel... so it always hits him, after he has sex with you, that he should figure his feelings out. he stays with you for breakfast too, grateful for the way mornings are usually quiet around you. he leaves with a heavy heart before lunch though, but knowing damn well he'll come back to your bed soon.
there's no morning after with woozi, as he leaves in the middle of the night, both because he can't sleep and he doesn't know how to deal with the "aftwards", especially if he doesn't love you. he's not an asshole though, so he texts you an apology when he knows you're awake and tells you that it was fun seeing you again, and that you should definitely go visit him on his studio sometime.
dokeyom is similar to hoshi, i think. he just wants you to be comfortable around him, so he's just his sunshine form when he's around you the morning after. he also stays, for as long as he can/you will have him, but always tell you "hey, i can go whenever you want" - no, dokyeom, you can't. you want to stay. you know you do.
mingyu is the type to wake up earlier than you, take a shower (because of course he already feels at home with you), and then proceed to make you something to eat. he shyly smiles when you come find him in your kitchen. even though the relationship he has with you is mainly sexual, his mom didn't raise a player - so he'll pay you back for having him on your bed somehow.
minghao stays with you. there's this spoken thing between the two of you, where you're not truly fwb but also you're not mere acquaintances - so he's comfortable enough to sleep next to you, but draws the line when it comes to breakfast together. he's out the door as soon as he has taken a shower (alone, of course).
seungkwan leaves as soon as he wakes up, not because he wants to, but because he's most likely late for something. he definitely texts you later, thanking you for the night and promising to see you soon. might also send something to your house, like your favorite dessert or something, since he couldn't stay as he usually does.
vernon doesn't stay. if he doesn't have feelings for you he's more than grateful that you let him have his way with you and always make sure to not be a player, and that includes leaving (it's not right after though, he takes his time to calm down and if you are already asleep by the time he decides to leave, he wakes you up. he will never leave without telling you so).
dino stays because he wants to be with you. i can't see this sweet boy not falling in love or getting obsessed with you, so deal with it. will crack jokes just to see you smile in the morning, and already knows how you like your coffee/tea. his smile falters when you tell him you have plans for the day, a polite way to tell him he can't stay for too long.

Can I request an imagine with Minghao doing readers hair? I just feel like he’s be so gentle and if he doesn’t know how he’d learn just for his s/o 💞
of course, anon!! here u go <3 i hope u enjoy it! i assume this is for a fem reader but please let me know if u meant otherwise!
you sit cross legged on the floor in front of the coffee table, absentmindedly shovelling bite-sized pieces of fruit into your mouth, placed on the table courtesy of minghao. you continue to type away on your laptop, pushing stray strands of hair out of your face subconsciously. moments later you do it again, this time firmer and with an audible huff.
the action makes your boyfriend look up from his phone from his spot on the armchair opposite you. he raises an eyebrow at your futile attempts to keep your hair out of your face, watching the way it falls back in front of your ears a few moments later.
“do you want me to get you a hair tie?”, he questions. you look up at him and nod.
“my sweet lifesaver, yes, please”, you shoot him a quick smile.
he’s back a minute later and you reach out for the hair tie in his hand before he plops onto the couch behind you. you look at him in confusion when he grins at you.
“what if i braid it back?”, he asks sweetly and you squeeze his leg from your spot on the floor.
“go ahead, hao. i’d like to see your braiding skills”, you say with a chuckle before you turn around to face your laptop again.
and that’s how minghao finds himself with a handful of hair in his hand, a hair tie on his wrist and eyebrows furrowed in confusion. the youtube tutorial made it looks so easy, he thinks. you hear the faint sound of his phone on the couch behind you. playing something about one piece of hair over the other. you laugh and try turning your head to look at him.
“no, no, baby, stay still. you do your thing”, he mumbles, staring at the back of your head in focus.
“you sure you don’t want my help, hao?”, you say as you turn back around.
“i’ve got this, i’ll create the prettiest braid you’ve ever seen”. he says and you hum fondly, soft smile on your face.
minghao fiddles with your hair for another 10 minutes before sighing and rewinding the tutorial playing on his phone. he whispers a small, “not yet, love” when you move to turn around and you comply.
gentle fingers card through your hair, soft touches on the nape of your neck tickling you as your boyfriend patiently tries weaving your hair into a braid. 20 minutes later, with a final stroke of your head and a squeeze of your shoulders he proudly declares that he’s “all done!”.
you feel the braid at the back of your head, it’s messy and slightly skewed but it’s a full braid. and to you, it’s perfect. you finally turn to face him, beaming.
“how did i do?”, he asks, cheeks puffed up in a proud smile.
“so good, i’m very proud”, you say as you climb onto the couch and take a seat beside him with a giggle. “my boyfriend might be a hair stylist”.
you leave a quick kiss to his cheek and he responds with a sweet kiss pressed to your lips.
“it’s definitely a little messy, you’re too sweet to me”, he says with a squeeze of your hand.
“maybe, but i think it’s the prettiest braid i’ve ever seen”, you tell him.
and the smile he gives you, bright eyes crinkling at the corners, is definitely the prettiest you’ve ever seen.

♡ DEAR TOO MUCH — XU MINGHAO
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
slytherin!minghao x hufflepuff!reader | wc : 1.1k words | content : possible grammar and spelling mistakes, lowercase intended, fluff, mild angst, strangers to friends, hogwarts / harry potter au | loki's lines — this is the one (of a couple) entries for the exchange event by @kflixnet. this one's for @sodafy <3 this was my first time writing for hao and i really hope i did it justice! dsgdfhg hope you like this, have a great day <33
Tumblr media
“hey, there! you must be minghao!”
the raven-haired male turned at the cheerful voice, brows furrowed amusingly as he saw you in front of him, enthusiastic as ever.
“yep.” he curtly nodded, scooting to the side to make space on your lab table. “you are y/n, i’m assuming?”
“the one and only!”
“good to know.”
as an overenthusiastic hufflepuff, you were always told to take it down a notch as your attitude could be overbearing to people — especially slytherins.
and seeing minghao’s slight smile and brief replies, you figured you were going a little overboard with your energy.
“uh, if you ever feel like i’m too much, please don’t hesitate to tell me,” you quietly stated, a small smile on your face. “i’m trying to work on it.”
xu minghao didn’t know why, but hearing you say that made him frown, realizing you must’ve been told on multiple occasions to calm down.
on any other day, the raven-haired male would’ve made some sort of snarky remark, but seeing the way you nervously smiled at him, all he could do was shrug off your comment.
“i’m not much and you are too much; i think we balance out each other well.”
Tumblr media
as the days passed by, you and minghao only got closer — or at least, that’s what you thought. you were constantly rambling, and he kept listening to whatever you had to say, never complaining.
“there were these pretty rings at this stall on knockturn alley. they were so beautiful with these butterflies and little flower engravings!” you gushed, pouting as you looked at your empty fingers. “i couldn’t buy them, though. gyu was in a hurry, and we didn’t have time to go shopping.”
minghao only hummed in response, like he always did, signaling that he was listening to you. he walked around the table as he followed the recipe for the potion you were making in class today, not really bothered by your lack of help.
“ah, and there was this bracelet with a little golden snitch charm, which was the cutest thing ever!” you cooed, remembering the accessory you wanted. “but they sold them in pairs, and i don’t really have anyone to wear them with, so i didn’t buy those either.”
the raven-haired male hummed again in response, frowning at the book in his hands. “the letters are smudged on this book. i’ll go get another one,” he stated, moving to the back of the class as you stayed in your place.
you never really minded minghao not replying to your talks. just the fact that he listened meant a lot to you.
but in the back of your head, you always wondered if he truly listened or just nodded to make you stop talking.
“the idiot ran away because you were talking his ears off.” your brows furrowed as you saw your gryffindor friend, mingyu, frowning. “he’s a slytherin, for merlin’s sake.”
“what’s that supposed to mean?”
seokmin sighed. “he’s not listening to what you are saying,” he confessed. “i know you are trying to make friends, but this guy is probably not it.” he gave a sympathetic smile.
“oh.”
“don’t get your heart broken, okay?” mingyu walked by, ruffling your hair affectionately. “i don’t want to have any points taken off gryffindor for teaching a slytherin a lesson.”
you stayed silent after the exchange, taking this time to think about everything. maybe they are right. maybe that’s why he hasn’t been responding to me properly. you sighed, going back to taking notes on your work.
xu minghao returned with another book, going back to his work — expecting you to continue your ramblings about your day. however, when you barely spoke to him, he raised his brows in concern, looking over at you.
“everything okay, y/n?”
“yeah, the potion seems to be brewing fine. no explosions so far.”
the raven-haired male frowned, knowing very well that you knew he wasn’t talking about the potion. his gaze darted to the table behind you, noticing mingyu and seokmin glancing over at you worriedly from time to time.
were you told to calm yourself down again? but why?
minghao shouldn’t have felt anything when he saw you with a blank face — in fact, he shouldn’t have been dying to see you smile and ramble again, like you always did.
he only left you for two minutes, and you changed so drastically that he couldn’t help but think that he had something to do with it.
was it because he never replied properly? was it because he didn’t seem like he cared?
whatever it was, xu minghao didn’t like it — mostly because he didn’t like seeing you down.
Tumblr media
the great hall was crowded, as always; the chattering and giggling of children filling the entire room. you sat with your friends, picking at your breakfast, completely oblivious to their looks of worry.
“hey, y/n.” seokmin broke the silence, getting your attention. “are you still down about yesterday? because–”
“i’m fine.”
“we just don’t want you to be hurt, okay? we could be wrong and–”
you dropped the fork in your hands, clattering it against your plate. “i get it, okay? i’m just kinda sad because i really thought of him as a friend,” you muttered, looking down.
seokmin half-heartedly smiled. “hey, maybe we can–” the screeching of an owl cut him off, followed by it swooping low by their table and dropping a little package.
right in front of you.
brows furrowed, you gently took the package in your hands, slowly removing the wrapping before opening the little box.
a confused smile took over your face as you saw the very accessories you had been eyeing at knockturn alley. all the way from the rings with the butterflies and little flower engravings to the bracelet with a little golden snitch charm; it was all in the box.
did mingyu feel bad and buy those as an apology?
you noticed a note at the bottom of the box, realizing it was definitely not mingyu as you read it.
dear too much, i suck at this whole friendship thing, so i’m sorry if i ever make you feel like you are annoying me. i promise you are not, and i promise i am listening to you. sincerely, not much.
it didn’t take seokmin long to figure out who the package was from, seeing the way you smiled as you read the note. plus, the way the slytherin kept trying to see your reaction from the other table wasn’t exactly slick either.
“from minghao?” he asked, even though he already knew the answer.
“i guess he was actually listening to my stupid ramblings, after all.”

How To Avoid Yourself From Getting Killed?
Pairing : Xu Minghao x Reader
Genre : Mafia Au
Warnings : Mentions of kidnapping
Minghao might be the only person on earth who doesn’t trash and throw when you kidnap him.
“Are you sure no one saw you?” you ask Jeonghan, who’s wearing an innocent smile on his face. His baby face gets handy during undercover missions, which is why you still keep him around even after the countless of trouble he gets into, like now. “You could have just bought your disgusting snack like a normal, decent person instead of stealing it.”
He laughs, “Oh my, Ms. Y/n. Are you like a baby boomer or something? Where’s the fun in that?” You swear you almost punch him in the face but being the leader for years you know what your members are capable of, so you decide against it. “But no one saw you right?”
His face scrunches into something you can’t pinpoint but you recognize the face. The face of Yoon Jeonghan who just got himself into a major problem but thinks he has a ‘smart’ solution to it, “Yeah, about that,” he motions at Joshua and Jun, who bring in a boy about your age, “We brought the witness.”
You let out a gasp of shock, looking back at Jeonghan and the boy who has his head lowered. “Jeonghan, we promised to never kidnap people again”.
“It’s fine. He doesn’t shout so no reason to worry,” Jeonghan assures you, but you’re not ready to believe him. With the great Yoon Jeonghan, comes great trouble. He proves your theory every time.
“Leave it, let me see him,” you say, walking to the boy while motioning at Joshua to give him a chair. Even after sitting down, he refuses to meet your eye, so using two of your fingers you tilt his head, and another gasp leaves your lips.
He was genuinely the prettiest boy you had ever seen and you’re saying this after being with Jeonghan for years. His eyes held natural calmness and confidence. They pierced into your own orbs, making your cheeks flush red. You’ve never felt anything like this before.
Before your brain could process anything, someone clears their throat, and it snaps you out of your trance. “Love at first sight is dumb. I don’t know how heroines in movies even do that,” Jeonghan’s uncanny impression of yours makes you shoot daggers at him before you turn back to the boy with the loveliest smile you could offer.
“What’s your name?” suddenly you felt like you were in high school once again, where knowing the name of the cute boy in class on the first day was the biggest success for any girl. He stays silent for a moment before answering, “Minghao.”
“You’re not scared?” you ask and to your surprise, he smiles, “What can I do? It doesn’t help in any way. The least I can do is collect my shit together and hope that this isn’t how I die.”
His reply makes you look at Jeonghan, “In 5 years of working with you, this is the first time I’ve felt proud of you, Jeonghan.”
Jeonghan rolls his eyes, but you know he’s secretly relieved that you didn’t kill him for the whole kidnapping thing. “What now? You’re in love with him?”
Joshua smacks his friend’s arms before turning to you with an apologetic look. “He’s just jealous. I’ll take him away for now,” he mouths to you, dragging Jeonghan away.
“Say, Minghao, what do you feel about taking Jeonghan’s place?”
“You really want him to hate me, don’t you?”
You laugh, “No, I’m promoting him. That’s why. I’ll leave you if you’re not interested.”
He seems to be in his own bubble of thoughts for a few minutes before replying, “I think it’ll be fun. I’m bored of my life anyways.”
You clasp your hands in delight. He better be ready for some excessive flirting because you’ve decided that he’s the one for you. How else can your heart race so fast?

Kinktober D6: A Little Bit of Magic - The8
Navigation
Kinktober 2023
Seventeen Masterlist
Tumblr media
Pairing:  The8 - Wizard! Minghao x Fem! Reader
Genre: Soft Smut, Mutual Pining
Summary: Working as Minghao's shop keep was both a blessing and curse, but when a little mix up happens with a recipe there's no going back to what you two were before.
Warnings: Cursing, magic, oral (fem receiving), fingering, unprotected sex. Really this is rather soft and vanilla in terms of the sex.
Word Count: 2393
"Y/N!" Minghao calls noticing you catch your footing before catching you as you fall, the bottles previously in him hands now hovering due to his magic. Something he uses to send them off to the shelves to which they belong, "How many times must I tell you not to climb into the counter to reach up there?"
Your head lowers at his light scolding, "I'm sorry Minghao, I just feel like it would be silly for you to have to invest in a ladder just for me."
He sighs softly, "And I have told you that I love having you work here and I literally do not mind at all. Besides, were it not for my magic I'd have no use for them so high either, would be more hassle than the storage is worth. Though if you keep this up I most certainly will get rid of them."
"No, that's even more of an imposition than a ladder!" You're quick to dispel the thought, looking up at him frantically.
"Then should I get that ladder for you so you can still reach?" He inquires, smiling at the timid little nod you give in agreement, "Excellent! Until it comes, ask me if you need something up there. For now though, did you get hurt on your way down?"
You shake your head as he sits you on the main counter of the shop area to have more space without his work clutter. Quickly checking you over to be certain that you truly didn't get harmed at all.
"Very good! I don't know how I would survive without you around here." Minghao chuckles slightly flustered as he turns to the order list you had so neatly written down to see what else he needed to get together.
"Oh please you survived without me for so long and you could easily do it again. Despite what the mess would suggest, you're very well organized." You throw a little tease in as you hop down to look at your own list to start compison the already completed items and potions into their respective orders.
"Give yourself due credit. You're the only reason I get out of here at a decent hour and that I take care of myself with my work." He insists and it makes his cheeks burn slightly at the thought of how you truly do take care of him.
"Of course Hao, after all it's not like we're just workmates. We're more than that aren't we? You're the friend who has seen me through far more than any others." You’re so focused that you don’t see the way your words affect him. Not that you would have known what to do had you caught sight of it, not with the way he could so effortlessly make your own heart flutter.
“I agree.” He stopped himself from adding that he desired to be far more than that as well, before humming at the list, “Y/N? Who requested the truth serum?”
You pull out the records you took having known that one was on the particular list of things Minghao wouldn’t just hand off to anyone, “It was the king’s guard. They said they would like some for questioning criminals.”
“Very well, I’ll mix it up, but we’re going to keep it locked up until I speak to them to confirm.” He insists and you nod, not one to argue with his requests in this regard. “ Can you run out and get the things on this list for it though?”
You look at him with a slight frown, “It’s getting late Hao.”
“I know, but I only have two more to mix up to be done for the week and I can do the one while you are out getting those things. Then we’ll be done in no time.” Minghao tells you and he seems so relieved at the thought that you can’t bear to argue with him. Simply nodding and slipping on your cloak, accepting his list and the necessary money before you’re on the way to get the supplies.
Returning to find that he has already bottled the previous potion and started on the truth serum now, working hard as he always does to concentrate on the task despite having nearly all of the recipes memorized at this point.
“I forgot something. Can you throw in what I asked you to get?” Minghao asks of you before rushing off before you can argue that you’ve never done this before. Walking over to the mix you look around for the recipe only to find that it’s not there. With a sigh you toss in all he asked you to get hoping it was the amount he needed anyways, you lean away, eyes closed tight waiting for something to happen and when it doesn’t you breathe a sigh of relief. Walking away to go clean some things up and lock the door for the night.
Only when Minghao returns and adds his ingredient, however there is a large splash, you turn just in time to see a cloud of smoke billowing out from his work room and making you panic as you run over to check on him. Finding him coughing a little while using his hand to clear the smoke near his face, allowing you to grab his free hand and lead him to the other room to breathe easier and see if he was okay.
“You okay Minghao?” You question him though you find no scratches or anything out of place and feel slightly relieved.
“Yeah I’m okay. Just gonna sit, I feel a little fuzzy.”  Minghao assures you, moving to sit while you go get him some water.
“That’s probably just the smoke. Breathe for a little bit and then just let me know if it’s not better.” You insist, moving to open a window to clear out some more of the smoke so that hopefully he can breathe a little easier.
“Gods you’re so cute when you’re all worried over me.” Minghao says before his eyes widen, wondering why the fuck he would have said that outloud when all he wanted to do was assure you he truly was okay.
You freeze in your actions, turning to look at him with an expression mirroring his, chuckling as you assume your brain is making up statements he’s making, “Uhm, what?”
“I’m sorry. I meant every word just not for it to be said out loud. I don’t know what’s the matter with me.” He tells you once again sharing more than he had desired, eyes widening, “Oh no… Y/N. Go get me the antidote for the truth serum please.”
You turn to go do that before pausing at the implication of his words hits you full force, “Wait… is the serum you were mixing up affecting you right now?”
“Yes.” Minghao answers, cursing himself after he had assumed he could fight it enough to say no.
“So you really meant all the things you have been saying?”You ask despite the slight hesitation still. It’s not something Minghao would have likely opened his mouth to answer, especially with truth serum affecting him, and yet the way you looked at him all wide eyed and in a way desperate he felt he needed to to make things better somehow.
“I did and I mean so much more than that too.” Minghao speaks to you softly, swearing he hears you gasp a little at the confession.
“What… What do you mean?” You find yourself pushing  a little bit further, not sure if you should regret it or not when you watch how Minghao tilts his head back clearly debating over answering you this time.
“Fuck I don’t want to ruin anything, but…. I’m in love with you… I have been for a little while now.” Despite the fact he answered you he refuses to look at your face again, not sure he could handle what he might see if he does.
“That’s not going to ruin anything Minghao, because … I love you too.” You fluster, but not enough to hold back your admission. Not when he seems so torn up over confessing to you like this.
“You don’t have to say that out of pity to me.”  Minghao tells you and it makes your furrow your brows with a little pout.
“I’m not…will you believe me?”  Your voice is soft and it almost breaks him hearing you talk to him in such a way.
Now Minghao finally looks at you again, lip worried between his teeth before shaking his head softly, “It’s kind of hard to with the way things have always been.”
You sigh before turning towards his work room, Minghao watching you in confusion until you return with a spoonful of the serum in hand, looking into his eyes as you drink it down, “Ask me now Minghao.”
“Y/N… do you love me?” He asks though he wishes it were with less shaking in his voice.
“With my whole being.” You admit watching his cheeks burn as you chuckle softly, “I also really want to kiss you after what you said earlier.”
“Fuck I want to kiss you too.” Minghao almost moans out.
“Then what’s stopping us exactly?” Nearly as soon as the words left your mouth Minghao was on you. The kiss was urgent as if he had been waiting a lifetime to have this and it was the only thing that would keep him living. His hands gripping your hips firmly, as if to ground himself with a little reminder that you truly were here with him.
When you break away to breathe he still can’t keep his lips off you, kissing over your jaw and throat as he speaks against your skin, “Every night when we left I just wanted to take you home with me so badly. I knew I would see you the next morning, but I hated being apart even for that. I just wanted to hold you at night, make sure you slept perfectly. I also wanted to take you home to make you feel so good.”
When he growls out the last two words he pairs them with a nip at your sweet spot, rewarding him with a moan as you pant softly between your words to answer him, “ Well Minghao you have all the time in the world for that now, So… are you going to take me home?”
“You bet I fucking will… though I don’t think that I can wait that long. Can I have you now darling? I promise to be gentle. Take it as slow as you need me too, just please don’t deny me this.”
Truthfully you had no intentions to considering you were just as desperate as he was, yes he sounded so pretty begging for it like this, “You don’t have to take it that slowly Minghao… I’m just as impatient.”
Minghao’s lips are on yours again, his hands slipping around to start to untie your dress while your hands are clawing at his shirt. When you break apart this time Minghao is helping you remove his shirt, his magic taking over where his hands left off while he picks you up and places you onto the counter, dropping to his knees and throwing your skirt over his head. He’s slipping off your panties and throwing them across the room only a second later.
“So beautiful… so wet…is this all for me darling?” Minghao’s voice has dropped and it makes you feel fuzzy and warm, feeling him kiss your clit so delicately only a moment later.
“Yes! All for you Hao!”  You practically squeal out and it only encourages him more, moaning against your clit before taking long determined licks through your folds. His magic is pulling the top of your dress down now.
“Play with your nipples while I eat you out darling, I want you to feel amazing.” He orders you and you don’t dare disobey as your hands come up to pinch and pull at your taut nipples. The more your moans grow the more determined he is as he eats you out.
“That’s my good girl, listening so well. It’s making you even wetter for me, letting me taste even more. I just knew you would be the sweetest thing darling.” His praise is doing so much for you as he suckles your clit now, slipping two fingers in with barely any resistance. “Already so tight, I can feel you clenching already. It’s not too much, is it darling?”
The way he coos the words at you, you know that he’s taunting you slightly and you can’t bring yourself to care, back arching as you moan again, “No.. not too much… just too good… You’re gonna make me cum Hao. Want to cum for you so bad!”
“I want you to too darling, go ahead be my good sweet girl and let me taste you cum for me.”  His words against your clit are all it takes to throw you over the edge for him. Minghao using his magic to keep your trembling thighs spread for him as he rides you through it, that way his hands are free to add to your pleasure.
Once he’s sure you’ve ridden it out he comes back up to stand between your legs, bunching the skirt of your dress up around your waist, “To make it easier to get you dressed when we’re done, that way I can get you home sooner.”
That’s all the explanation you get before he’s stealing your breath in a kiss again, tip running through you folds, slowly easing in while he continues to kiss you.
“Darling you feel perfect, like heaven itself in fact. I can’t believe I had to wait this long to have you like this.”  He tells you and the way your hands are so desperately grabbing at his arms as he slowly grinds into you has him nearly melting.
“Never have to wait again Hao…never again. I promise.” You’re crying out and he moans, pulling back to finally give you a real thrust.
“Oh I didn’t intend to darling… after all, the first thing we’ll be doing once you’re in my bed will most certainly not be sleeping. Now be a good girl and take me like you so obviously were made to.”

proofread: kinda
warnings: none i believe
Tumblr media
You hummed as you woke up, the feeling of lips against your forehead drawing you out of your sleeping state. “Oh, I’m sorry, dear, I didn’t mean to wake you.” You heard your boyfriend, Minghao, apologize quickly while his hand was brushing the hair away from your eyes, “You just looked so cute, I couldn’t help it.” He said, another hum leaving you.
Your eyes finally peeled open, the image of him leaned up on his arm, his bright blue hair messed up from his sleep, his lips curled into a smile while he looked at you.
He looked perfect in this moment, he always looked perfect, but moments like this made you wonder how he was real. Despite having seemingly just woken up, he couldn’t have done anything to himself to top this look.
“It’s fine, you know I don’t mind if it’s you.” is what slipped out of your lips, almost as a whisper, but he didn’t seem to mind, his eyes crinkled the second he heard your voice. He would never get enough of it, it seemed, he always absorbed your voice like a sponge any time you talked.
But right now, no words left either of you while you two sat in bed, you both had moved slightly to where your head was laying on his chest and his arm was holding you close. His fingers traced random shapes into your back through the shirt you were wearing, it was his shirt, he adored you in his clothing.
He wasn’t really a jealous person, but he was possessive to an extent. It wasn’t a toxic kind, he just simply liked knowing you were his and he was yours, you wearing his clothing showed that. He pressed a kiss to your head, his heart beat beginning to slightly race when he did and you felt yourself smile.
His hand began to just rub your back, “Do you want to go to the museum today?” He asked softly, he loved going to art exhibits and museums with you to see the artwork, though anytime you would muse about a painting being pretty, he was mutter in your ear about how you were prettier and kissing your cheek. Every time. You have never gotten tired of it.
“New exhibit?” You asked, your eyes fighting to stay open so you didn’t go to sleep again, the museum was a day long adventure with him, he always liked to stop and admire the paintings, take you out for lunch during it.
He hummed out an agreement, saying he was excited and he was waiting for the perfect day to see it. You turned to look at him, “I’d love to, Hao.” You told him, he smiled at you again, leaning down to silently ask for a kiss.
You smiled as well, kissing him since he would always jokingly pout when you said no, but would never force you to. His hand came up and cupped your cheek, murmuring how much he loved you against your lips.

heat wave
Tumblr media
Minghao x reader
request: Hii! Could I request a Minghao fic? Fluff and comfort where the reader gets sick in the middle of the summer 💀(pretty specific but istg having fever when it’s so hot outside it’s killing me)
word count: 1.9k
genre/contains: fluff, comfort, sick reader, reader in pain, established relationship, physical touch as comfort happens but also comfort in other ways, mentions of medicine and food
a/n: I hope you are feeling a bit better at this point anon, but if you're not I hope this helps :)
.・。.・゜✭・..・。.・゜✭・.
Minghao was about ready to leave the house when he realized that you were still in bed. You would most likely oversleep if he didn't wake you up now since he knew how bad you were at setting alarms. They bugged you, and usually, you and Minghao had the opportunity to wake up together.
Today, however, Minghao had an earlier than usual schedule and would leave before you had to. You should've woken up by now though, and he thought it would be best to wake you up himself instead of leaving it up to chance.
Sitting down by the side of the bed he began stroking his hand down the side of your arm under the covers.
"Good morning sweetheart, I have to leave now so I thought I would wake you up so you don't oversleep," he said with a melodious voice.
You, however, were not feeling the "good" in this morning. “No, it’s tooo warm” you groaned out, wanting to both throw your covers away and snuggle deeper into them. It was all wrong, so you just stayed, shuffling around a bit.
“I know, the heat wave is insane this summer. I’m barely holding it together, mayyybe you should try getting out of bed and away from those even warmer covers?” He responded with a deep and exaggerated sigh, playfully trying to get you to wake up just to glare at him for his slightly judgmental comment about you still being in bed.
However, you didn’t respond to his teasing. There were tiny beads of sweat forming on your forehead, as the heat from outside of your body, and the one fighting its way out of your body had begun terrorizing you with its combined warmth.
Your lips, ashy and dry, combined with the sweat glistening on your skin made Minghao think that perhaps you weren't feeling too good. Of course, Minghao's suspicions proved to be correct.
“Oh gosh! You’re burning up!?” Minghao nearly shouted out, as he touched your forehead with the back of his hand.
You only whimpered back, leaning into his touch, needing something other than the insufferable feeling of warmth flooding your body. He wasn't nearly as warm as you, and his touch brought with it the slightest relief for your mind, which was almost delirious from the fever.
“How are you feeling sweetie?” He asked, concern lacing his every word, while he continued to pat your head and wipe the tiny beads of sweat forming at the edge of your hairline away from your face.
You replied with a short “Not good,” while trying to open your eyes to look back at your boyfriend who was holding the back of his neck with the one hand that wasn't resting on you, as he thought about what to do now.
“I’m staying home with you today, okay.” He declared after a while. Adding “Let me just call in sick, I’ll call in for you too,” and pressing a chaste kiss to the top of your head.
“I will be fine, I don’t think I’m that sick, I’ll just sleep it off, don’t cancel your things for me.” You tried to assure him. But as you were saying this, the words became increasingly hard to pronounce and your voice was becoming fainter and fainter the longer you tried to make use of it. The sore throat you were discovering that you had was an issue when trying to debate what he should and shouldn’t do for you.
After clearing your throat, you added "I can take care of myself, it's fine..." Nevertheless, Minghao saw through your charades.
“Yeah, I know you can take care of yourself. But,” he paused, letting his hand rest on your head as he stared into your drowsy eyes, “please, let me do it.”
His voice was so understanding yet so stern, he wanted you to agree, but he had also decided to cancel his schedule for the day and be there for you. No matter what you said you could handle, anyone could see how much you ached from the heat of the fever combined with the already insufferable heat wave.
He also knew how you felt about receiving help, not even your own boyfriend was an exemption from your need to do everything yourself, no matter how much it weighed on you.
That’s just why he needed to be there anyways, you wouldn't ask for it, and you wouldn’t be keen on accepting his assistance or care if it was an option. So simply telling you that he already decided to stay, to simply inform you about what he wanted to do for you, was one hell of a lot easier than trying to convince you of anything.
He quickly changed into sweats again, called into both of your workplaces, and came back to your side with an ice-cold glass of water, some aspirin, and a damp towel. You looked exhausted, he ached himself from just seeing you like this.
"Hey, sweetie, i need you to wake up a little," he began to rouse you awake and back into the world of the living.
"Just sit up a bit," he continued, trying his best to help you into a half upright position, leaning against the headboard behind you. Your eyes fought you for control as they tried to close themselves against your will. Minghao brushed his hand against your chin, "here, drink this," he held up the glass to your lips and you drank, happy for the soothing feeling it brought to your dry mouth. "Now, swallow this," he popped the pill onto your tongue and you swallowed it along with another sip of water.
"Good job, you did so good," Minghao praised as you laid back down, He smiled down at you, and placed the damp towel on your forehead. The sigh of relief you let out, made his heart melt.
"And you wanted to be left alone like this?" he whispered out into the air, clicking his tongue in disapproval, not expecting you to even hear him. Altough, you did hear him and you felt a sense of thankfulness to him, for not listening to your stubborn self trying to handle everything yourself, and instead being there, for always being there.
.・。.・゜✭・..・。.・゜✭・.
You were sound asleep now, it had been a couple hours of delirious sleep, mixed with waking up and stumbling to the bathroom, or waking up to let Minghao give you more water, or pills, or change the cooling towel propped up on your head. He was positioned next to you in bed, sitting up against the headboard and reading to pass the time without disturbing you.
A sudden grip on his arm disrupted his peaceful reading when you clammed onto Minghao's arm in your sleep. You were so warm to the touch, and he looked at you, sweaty and still off in dreamland. Whines erupted from your throat, "Don't go, don't, Hao, help me, the fire is so hot, please, don't leave me alone," you rambled.
He could almost feel your pain, seeing the pain in your face. At the same time, Minghao felt a tinge of pride as you called out for him when you needed someone. Even if you were barely conscious as you said it, the simple fact that you had actually let go of your stubborn attitude towards receiving help, and called for him in your moment of weakness.
“I’m here, I’m right here,” he comforted in a low, soothing voice, “just sleep, I won’t go anywhere,” he continued as you slowly loosened your grip on his arm. Minghao watched you as you went back to sleep, thrashing around in the bed to somehow find something cool in your surroundings.
.・。.・゜✭・..・。.・゜✭・.
The entire day had passed by the time you regained enough consciousness to be able to sit up yourself. The pills had worked magic, and you felt so much better now. Even the scorching heat of the day was beginning to calm down as the sun was setting.
Minghao had stayed by your side the entire day and was now running his fingers up and down your still warm arm, while he continued to read the book that he was nearing the end of by now.
"Hey Hao, I think I could eat something now," you said and looked up at him, breaking the comfortable silence in the room.
He looked back at you, placing the book on his chest. "Oh! Do you want anything in specific?" he eagerly questioned.
"No, not really, my stomach just feels so empty right now and I'm finally ready to eat something I think."
"Okay, I can work with that," he said as he chuckled in relief as you seemed a lot more upbeat now. "What do you think about cold noodles?"
"I can feel my mouth watering already," you said and looked at him with a dreamy expression that made him laugh.
"Well then, I'll go and make that happen, you just relax a bit, drink some more water while you're at it," he suggested while making his way out of the bedroom and into the kitchen.
When he came back with a tray of two bowls of delicious-looking noodles you had already gotten up to sit properly and moved the covers away so that he could place the food down without having to adjust them to lay flat enough with the food in his hands. You had also turned on the laptop and placed it in front of you on the bed, a movie ready to play as you ate.
"What are we watching?" Minghao asked and motioned to the still dark screen.
"Frozen, to combat the heat you know," you responded absent-mindedly, occupied with setting up your food and trying not to spill any of it.
"Ah, a perfect choice, as expected," he snickered and scootched onto the bed with his own bowl steady in his hands. Before turning on the movie, you mumbled out a "Thank you, by the way."
Minghao just looked at you, tilting his head in question before guessing "The food? Oh no problem," and smiling lightheartedly back at you.
"No, i mean I-... I'm not sure I would've been so fine on my own if I'm being honest. So... thank you for being here for me today."
He felt his heart flip, his face lighting up at the thankful words.
"Actually, thank you for always being there, even when I'm being so reluctant," you stated, with a clear and purposeful voice. But saying these things had made you a bit embarrassed and you decided to move on quickly.
Instead, you shoved an entire mouthful of noodles past your lips. But you froze when you heard Minghao giggle next to you, and then you managed to almost choke on the food in your mouth when he gave you a kiss on your stuffed cheek while responding with an extremely casual "Anytime, baby."
He couldn't help but snicker at the way you had been so surprised by his casual responses to your vulnerability. You scowled at him, but he just smiled at you and pressed play on the movie, letting his hand fall down onto your knee, rubbing small circles on it while you continued to eat and watch the movie for the remainder of the evening.

notes: there’s not really a plot to this. it’s just brainrot because i love torturing myself and my heart. i saw pics of the beach of hai cheng mv and immediately wanted to write something sad for no reason.
Tumblr media
The late morning sunlight pours in through the small window of the bathroom as you hold a steady, blank gaze at the running water gushing out from the faucet. The sounds bounce off the walls of the bathroom, and you bring your eyes down to your legs.
You can hardly move them.
It’s been this way for the past two years. It had started with the muscles of your legs slowly succumbing to the weakness stemming from the terminal illness you had been diagnosed with. And as time continues to routinely pass, that certain weakness had set out to invade other parts of your body like a dumb and relentless parasite.
Over the years, the disease had been slowly nearing its peak. The countless visits to the hospital had laggardly dissipated every bit of hope to a possible recovery, and you’ve gotten used to the sentences being said of There’s no cure for the disease, or Sooner or later, it can spread to your brain. You’re only growing weaker and weaker each passing day. Every day tasks were already strenuous. Opening your eyes in the morning took too much strength. Nothing but tiredness and exhaustion plagued your body. Headaches have been becoming more prevalent. Sometimes you just want all this pain to cease to exist. You didn’t want to put this burden on the people you love.
You didn’t want to put this burden on Minghao.
“So... cherry blossom, lavender, or coconut chamomile?”
You slowly bring your gaze up to the sight of your boyfriend holding up three different scents of bubble bath in the doorway. The sight makes you giggle as you look between the different scents with curiosity, before looking back up at Minghao.
Even after being together the past four years, just the fleeting sight of him lights you up. Your body may be growing weaker each day, but your unwavering love for the man holding up bottles of bubble bath scents has never faltered. Not one bit.
But if you weren’t sick, he would be able to live the long, happy life that he wanted, right?
Minghao knows that you are tired𑁋it’s your default answer every day. He wishes he can be able to take away the exhaustion that you feel. He wishes to put all of that pain onto his shoulders and carry it for you so you could experience the freedom away from the constraints of your illness.
But he also knows that life doesn't always grant such wishes.
“Will you... surprise me?” You ask instead.
All he does is smile. It’s that soft, fond nose-scrunching smile that you’ve grown to love over the years. Minghao places the bottles on the counter of the sink, putting his body in front so you wouldn’t be able to see what he selects. Covering the bottle with his arms, he playfully walks backward towards the bathtub, causing you to elicit a weak laugh at his dorky antics.
As he reaches the tub, he leans over and carefully pours the bubble bath into the warm water, And as you watch, a gentle purple hue of bubbles begin to form and spread sporadically throughout the tub like a magical mist. It's the soothing and enchanting aroma of lavender.
“You... always know what I like, hm?” You ask him as he closes the container to the bottle and sets it back on the sink counter.
The corners of Minghao’s lips curl amusedly. "I may have learned a thing or two about you over the years.”
The sincerity in his words never fails to relax your heart and push away the clouds of your bittersweet thoughts. Minghao waits a minute or two before turning off the faucet and directing his attention back to you.
“Now,” He leans in front of you, letting his hands caress over yours on the handle of the wheelchair and landing at the hems of your shirt. “can I help you out of these clothes?”
A blush grows on your cheeks at his request despite him doing this for years. You heave out a nervous breath and nod as Minghao's hands begin to move over you with practiced ease, aware of your weakened limbs and exhausted state. He keeps his touch gentle and respectful, and starts with unbuttoning your shirt, his delicate fingers gliding effortlessly along the fabric to reveal the vulnerability the lies underneath. He doesn’t rush or hurry anything, simply setting his focus on you and only you. The warmth of his hands against your skin sends shivers running down your spine.
Though he has seen you bare for him many times, Minghao can’t help the faint smirk to his face. As the last button is undone, he lets your shirt fall to the tile floor below, his gaze travelling over you with adoration. The all-too familiar intimacy between you two has never diminished the admiration he holds for you. Treasuring you is something he has always been devoted to do.
“You’re so beautiful,” he mutters, leaning in to press a soft kiss to your knuckle, and you feel the surge of warmth and love run marathons to your heart.
With his hands now free from the task of your shirt, he continues his journey downwards, the tips of his fingers ghosting tenderly over your fragile skin and leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake. You can barely feel the way he touches you, but the thought of him doing so brings you comfort. He takes his precious time, savouring each second that passes between as he loosens the clasps of your pants and helps bring them down your legs with utmost caution.
As each layer of clothing is finally peeled off, a wave of relief and peace washes over you. Minghao sets your clothing neatly away before returning to your side and bringing you closer to the tub. He lets his arms wrap around you, carefully lifting you from the wheelchair and guiding you towards the edge of the bathtub. Sticking a hand in the water to ensure its a good temperature, he slowly but surely eases you into the bath, the water and lavender aroma embracing your body as you sink deeper inside the tub.
“Does it feel good?” he asks you while lathering the bubbles onto your shoulders.
A sigh escapes your lips as you lean your back against the tub with the bubbles tickling against your skin.
“Mhm,” You let out quietly. “Thank... thank you.” Thank you for taking care of me; I wish I could give you all the care back.
Minghao hums softly, planting a kiss to the top of your head, and retrieves a nearby sponge. Sitting himself down at the edge of the tub, he dips the sponge into the water before lightly caressing over your skin. He starts with your shoulders, washing your skin with a smooth pace and various patterns, helping to gradually ease away the tension to your body.
“Relax, love,” he tells you. “Let me take care of you.”
And so you let your eyes flutter to a close. It felt relaxing to do so𑁋to let go. It almost makes the pain in your head go away.
Tumblr media
You watch the steam rise from the untouched bowl of rice porridge in front of you. It takes Minghao a few minutes later to come back with his own bowl, along with a few side dishes in hand. He glances towards you and notices your empty expression, a tinge of sadness to your eyes that brings a heavy weight to his chest, but he doesn’t acknowledge it. Reaching over, he takes your metal spoon in his hand and dips it in the bowl, grabbing a spoonful of the porridge.
“It’s important for you to eat, love.” Minghao blows on the spoon, cooling down the porridge before bringing it to your lips. The illness hasn’t been much cooperative to your appetite, and eating has been a daunting task for the past few months. He prepares you light foods that doesn’t take much strength to swallow, but enough to nourish you at the same time.
Parting your lips slightly, Minghao feeds you the spoonful of porridge, and you immediately relish in the warmth coursing through you. A small smile crosses your face at the familiar taste of comfort, and it even makes Minghao’s worried face soften. He continues to feed you, spoonful by spoonful, his eyes never leaving yours while taking in every detail𑁋the way your eyes flutter close after each bite, the way the faint smile to your face grows every so slightly, but enough for him to notice. It’s a big change to see, according to him.
“Tastes good.” You murmur under your breath, looking up at him.
The weariness fades off your face just minisculely. Minghao manages a gentle smile, barely noticing his own food going cold as he continues to feed you.
There’s a certain silence that you love with him𑁋it’s a domestic silence, especially after being together for four years, where you love observing him doing his everyday routine. But gosh, you miss the times when you were able to hold him in your own arms, or when you could wrap your arms around him in a tight back hug while he cooked, or sneak kisses to his cheek and run away before he would tackle you back into the bed. You miss the times when he’d let you hold him so he could listen to you read, or when you both sat across from each other having your late night doodling sessions.
You miss all those times, and there’s no way to get them back.
“I was thinking...” Minghao comes back to sit down after setting the dishes away. “...if you wanted to go on a little getaway for the day?”
You look up at him dazedly. “A... getaway?”
“You’ve mentioned wanting to go the beach before,” he inputs, and you see his face up to your idea. “and I think it would be nice to get some fresh air, would you say so?”
He really does remember all the things about you.
A flicker of hesitation crosses your mind, yet the longing for a change of scenery, a temporary escape from the walls that confine you, helps to wash away any doubts.
You used to dream about running through the white sand beach, feeling the heat of the sun on your skin and the cool breeze caress your face while listening to the calming sound of the waves crashing against the shore. You dreamed of you and Minghao’s laughter mingling into the fresh, afternoon air, your hands intertwined together as you dash down the shoreline together.
Ever since you were a kid, you dreamed of the beach being the place where you would marry the love of your life, because the sight of the sun setting in the horizon, the soft sand beneath your feet, and the vastness of the ocean waters as you kissed your partner was a fairytale you wanted to experience.
And ever since before your diagnosis and still to this day, you dream of the beach being the place where you would marry Minghao.
Now, it entirely feels like a distant memory now, something beyond unattainable, but the thought of simply seeing it with your eyes brings some form of hope back to your tired heart.
So you look back up at Minghao as a very faint sparkle of eagerness passes through your eyes.
Tumblr media
The winter season paints the world with a palette of muted colours. The once vibrancy of the ocean waters fades into a pale blue-grey like the cloudy skies above, and the emptiness allows the beach to unfold in its truest form. The waves aren’t too strong or too weak, but roll in gently onto the shoreline with their white foam brushing against the sand before receding back into the vast waters.
As you and Minghao stroll down towards the beach, you find small patches of snow in the grass and bushes. The air is crisp and chilly, but you don't mind the cold. You find yourself dressed in a comfortable and cozy turtleneck, along with a snug coat to protect you from the winter chill. Minghao had insisted on picking an outfit since dressing you up𑁋and making sure all the colours work well with each other𑁋has always been one of his favourite activities to do.
There’s a ramp that you go down before finally arriving onto the sandy grounds. The wheels of the wheelchair sinks into the slightly damp sand as Minghao pushes you closer towards the water. He's used to assisting you with mobility the past two years, and he does it with such grace and care that it has practically become a second nature for him.
The beach appears desolate, but seeing it so untouched and undisturbed makes the experience far more peaceful.
Minghao stops the wheelchair at a comfortable distance from the water's edge before kneeling beside you. His ears are slightly reddened from the cold, even with the protection of his own turtle neck and long scarf, but his gaze in the direction of the water is filled with warmth and pure awe.
He turns to reach for your hand on your lap and intertwines his fingers with yours, before turning back to the sight of the sky meeting the sea.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” he asks.
“It’s...” If you could, if your body gave you the benefit of the doubt for one single moment, you would say everything coming from your heart𑁋how the word beautiful is just a small word compared to the real floating feeling that it gives you. “...beautiful.”
The word feels lackluster, but it's all you can manage to say, and Minghao's warm smile is all that you need to back you up.
He turns back towards you, hesitation in his words. “Do you want to stand closer to the water?”
You peer at Minghao with hesitation and uncertainty. Standing now took... more strength than usual as of lately, and it pains you to admit it. But the thought of being able to stand near the water, to be able to stand on the world that fills your dreams at night was more than tempting. You can barely remember the last time you were able to go to the beach; it was more than possible that it was way before the diagnosis of your illness.
But what if this could be your only opportunity?
And so you muster a small nod towards Minghao. “Help... me stand?”
Minghao only nods. He moves behind the wheelchair and locks the brakes so that it won't move while he helps you stand. With nothing but caution, he wraps an arm around your waist and one under your knees as you slowly rise from the wheelchair, your legs trembling from the use of all your strength as you lean against Minghao for balance. It felt... strange to be able to stand like this again, even if it was just for a few short minutes, almost like a sensation you have nearly forgotten.
His arm tightens around your waist as he guides you to take your first step, leading you closer to the shore. Each step felt like an ardous journey. You basically can hear the loud protests of your own body telling you to stop.
“You’re doing great,” he tells you, and his words bring you some heightened determination.
Even with each passing moment and your body slowly but surely taking all its effort to remain you upright, you don’t let the thought dampen your persistence.
When you finally reach the line where the tip of your shoe reaches the edge, the ocean stretches out before you as if holding countless stories of joy, sadness, and everything in between within its deep, mysterious depths.
Minghao still has an arm wrapped around you, but his eyes are directed into yours, both tenderly and admiringly.
"You did it," he assures you. "You're standing by the ocean.”
A bittersweet smile crosses your lips, a smile warm but with a hint of sadness. You feel the heat growing in your eyelids as you let a few streams of tears to flow down your face, never thinking that such a vast space would become your safe haven. Minghao leans in to press a loving kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering there for a moment.
You feel like you’re floating in that moment, suspended between that of reality and a dream. The weariness that lingers in your bones is briefly forgotten about, and you relish in the feeling of standing tall after so much time.
But as you continue standing, you feel the weakness descend upon you. The exhaustion surrounds you like a dense fog, clouding your mind and eating away at your energy. You try to keep your focus on the calmness of the ocean ahead, but you feel a certain heaviness to your eyes, making it difficult for you to keep them open.
And the world around you starts to blur.
Minghao is speaking. He’s speaking but you can’t make out any words because of the ringing in your ears that was growing louder each second and drowning out his voice which was the only thing fucking powerful enough to keep you even remotely grounded𑁋
“Y/N, stay with me. Can you... hear...”
No, I can’t hear you. You’re fading away... I’m the one who is fading away.
“Hao...” is all you manage to mumble out in a hushed, weak whisper.
The last thing you remember is the feeling of his arms around you and his voice desperately calling out your name before all you could see is black.
Tumblr media
It takes a lot for Minghao to break.
But seeing you in this hospital bed right next to him, with your skin more fragile than ever and your body laying unconsciously still, he feels each individual piece of his heart shatter by the passing minute and his chest grow heavy. The doctors predicted for you to have woken up two hours ago, but... you haven’t done so.
He doesn’t know what to feel, and it almost feels like each breath he takes only suffocates him even more, and being confined in the walls of the hospital room had been no help. Maybe it’s anguish, fear, guilt, or even anger. Perhaps it was all of the above.
Minghao's hands tremble as he clenches them into fists, tight enough for his knuckles to turn white. He wants to scream, but he restrains himself, and he’s been oddly good at doing so.
If only you knew all the times he had desperately tried to fight back tears knowing that one day, you won’t be waking up next to him anymore𑁋that you won’t wake up at all. Or the times he had fought back anger to hide away just how much he wants to yell at the universe for cursing you with such a damned illness.
As he continues to anxiously pace around the room, a soft knock to the door makes him halt. A man enters into the room𑁋the doctor𑁋with a solemn expression to his face. He glances towards your unconscious body on the bed, before turning back towards Minghao.
“Comparing the results of some tests and a previous medical check-up,” The man takes a noticeable deep breath. “I’m afraid that the disease has progressed its way into their brain, and it’s hard to tell as of now when they will regain consciousness.”
Minghao's body freezes at the doctor's words, and he feels something in his chest tugging painfully at the strings of his heart. The room grows silent aside for the sound of his racing heartbeat pounding in his ears, and the rhythmic beating of the heart monitor.
He means... that you knew all along?
The weight of it all crashes over him like a wave at high tide, and he loosens the grip he has to his fists. He swears that the ground beneath him was crumbling now as he gets himself to run back to your side and bring the hands of your lifeless form into his trembling ones.
“Why didn't you tell me?" he whispers shakily, but his question hangs unanswered in the air. “Dammit, Y/N, why didn’t you tell me?”
He feels the anger inside of him now, but he isn’t angry at you. He’s angry at himself. He clutches at your hands tightly, his grip almost desperate with his fingers running over your knuckles. Minghao's eyes scan frantically over your face, pleading for some type of response, for any sign that you can hear him. But the silence in the room remains unchanged.
Minghao presses his quivering lips against your hand, a river of tears spilling down his face. He blames himself for not seeing the signs. He blames himself for the pain you’ve went through. All he wanted to do was bring you to a place of happiness for just a single day, but it all went downhill, and he blames no one else but himself.
It takes a lot for Minghao to break, but not when it comes to you.
Tumblr media
“I’ll beat you to it, Hao!”
Minghao doesn’t race after you, instead he watches with a grin to his face as you dash excitedly in the direction of the ocean water, nearly tripping in the sand in the process. The waves were calm as they crash lightly against the shoreline.  It wasn’t much cloudy than before, and the air was still as chilly as the previous days, but for some reason it felt refreshing as ever to breathe in the wintry air and a perfect time to take a stroll near the waters.
He slowly makes his way down to the beach, hands in his pockets as he watches you stop at the edge of where the water rolls into the sand. You turn around to face him, a pout to your face that makes him chuckle to himself.
“You’re such a slowpoke!” You exclaim to him.
When he finally makes his way right next to you, you both look out at the waters together.
“We both know I would’ve beaten you anyways.” Minghao mutters, and he hears you release an annoyed scoff.
You turn towards him, a teasing smirk to your face. “Care to prove it?”
He raises an eyebrow as if contemplating your words for a moment. But with a sudden burst of energy, he takes off running, leaving you behind in the sand. Nothing but laughter leaves you as you follow after him, calling out his name for him to slow the heck down with your feet sinking into the softened sand with each step you took.
It takes some time of more chasing before Minghao finally stops in front of the water. When you arrive next to him, breaths shallow and unsteady from all the running, he quickly circles his arms around your waist like a tender cocoon, pulling you into a loving back hug.
Minghao rests his head comfortingly on your shoulder, his warm breath tickling against the skin of your neck. His touch immediately makes you lean into him, both of your gazes looking straight in the direction of the endless ocean waters. Time seems to stand still, where all the worries of the outside world melt away with each wave that comes in. It's just the two of you together, and no one else.
“I love you.” The words leave his lips like a hushed promise, even though it was only the two of you standing together. “You know that, right?”
"I know," You reply, voice barely above a whisper. “I love you too, Hao.”
As the words suspend quietly in the chilly air, a wistful breeze sweeps over the beach.
“You know I’ve always wanted to get married at the beach?”
Minghao tilts his head slightly, a soft, somewhat playful smile playing on his lips as he gazes into your eyes wonderingly.
“Is that so?” he hums. “Guess this is where we’re going to get married, then.”
You couldn’t tell if it was excitement or surprise that was raging through you. He said it so casually that it nearly makes your entire body go limp in his arms, your heart fluttering and swelling out of your chest.
“Wow, I... I didn’t expect you to say that so easily.” You stammer out your words.
Minghao just chuckles, placing a kiss to the temple of your head. “If that’s what you want, then I promise to make it happen, love.”
You feel the smile bloom onto your face as you bring your eyes back out to the waters again. You feel him rocking you back and forth in his hold, swaying your bodies aside the small waves that come washing onto the shore. But as he continues to hold you and you notice the waves coming in heavier, the smile to your face slowly begins to fade away.
Turning around to face him, you get yourself to light up your face once more.
“Close your eyes,” You tell him, letting your fingers play with his hair flying in the breeze. “Can you do that for me?”
Minghao gives you an odd look, before complying and letting his eyes fall to a close. He feels you release yourself from his grasp until he was holding nothing, which he brings his arms back down to his side. He shivers from a sudden breeze running past him as the anticipation courses through his veins.
Seconds turn into minutes, and all Minghao can hear is the waves beginning to crash louder against the sand. But amidst the sound of nature taking its course, there's silence from you. He doesn’t hear any signs of movement, any noise that can indicate that it was you. He hears nothing.
“Y/N?” he calls out once, twice, three times. “Y/N!”
And when he finally prys open his eyes, he’s met with nothing. All he could see was the seemingly endless beach and ocean stretching out before him in all directions possible. He calls out your name again in desperation, panic, fear, but he doesn’t earn any response, feeling the tears brim in his eyes once more as he sinks to his knees in the sand.
You’re gone.

"do you wanna talk?", minghao sleepily says. he has his arm around your body, face centimeters away from your neck as you're facing the ceiling. you didn't realize he's still awake.
"um... no", you say, looking at him. "i'm okay. i'll be fine."
minghao hums in return. his hand finds its way to your face, caressing your cheek. "then why don't you sleep a bit? you can figure everything out tomorrow."
it's your time to hum, then sigh, and finally change your position so you're now face to face to him.
minghao kisses your nose, eyes heavy with sleep. he wraps your body with his arm again, fingers tracing your back. soon enough, he pulls you to dreamland with him.

Imagine you adopt a kitten, and are kind of afraid your boyfriend won't like her.... but when he sees you enter the house with the little baby, all your concerns fly out the window.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Is that- oh, such a lovely baby." His voice is filled with awe as he gently coaxes the kitten out of your arms, his little touches to her as loving and caring as they are to you.
"Who's our baobei? You are. Yes, you." He coos, cradling the kitten in his arms and petting her tummy.
You laugh as you take off your shoes, rolling your eyes and teasing him playfully. "One would think you love her more than me, Hao." You huff with mock offense.
Minghao scoffs, leaning forward to kiss your forehead even as his hands stay busy with the precious bundle of floof. "What do you mean, xiaobei? She's lovely, but you're much more important to me. After all," He stares at you over his glasses, smiling. "You're the only one I'll marry one day, right?"
You stare at him for a long second, processing his words before you look away, flustered. "Wh- whatever. You're in charge of cleaning up after her, alright?" You hurriedly mutter, walking off to the bedroom even as you hear the kitten's tiny meows and his soft melodic laughter ring behind you.

[leave the leaves alone] “Don’t,” Minghao warns softly. “Don’t.”
But your eyes follow the huge pile of orange yellow and brown leaves even as Minghao tries to usher you both past it, on what he told you would be ‘a brisk walk through the park as winter whispers its arrival’ when he dragged you out of your house in the early morning.
“It looks so inviting…” You’re entranced, and Minghao doesn’t react fast enough to stop you from breaking into a dead sprint towards the pile. You spread your arms wide and leap into the leaves. From experience, you know that leaf piles are never actually as soft as they look, but you still love the winded feeling you get when you land with an, “Oof!”
And even though Minghao tutted the idea at first, you hear the shutter of his camera just as you throw a handful of colour into the air, a bright smile on your face and a soft one on his.

Walking in the Wind • Xu Minghao
Tumblr media
Summary: Goodbyes are hard, especially when you have to depart from the love of your life
Words: 1.9K
Warnings: none, unedited
Genre: Idol AU, angst
Pairing: Xu Minghao x BSF! Reader
"You will find me in places we've never been."
Geoffrey Chaucer once said that 'all good things must come to an end', but you didn't like to believe that. You wanted to believe that good things were supposed to last. You didn't like the idea of your good things having to depart from you. It made you feel uneasy.
These days you found it hard to not believe him given the circumstances you were facing. You were on your way to your boarding gate, to which you’d fly across the world.
Your best friend Minghao nudged you as you got closer. “You’ve got everything, right?”
Hoisting your carry on up on you shoulder, you nodded at him. “Yep.”
“Text me when you land, okay?”
You rolled your eyes. “Yes Hao.”
“I’m only looking out for you!”
You giggled as he crossed his arms over his chest. “I know.”
Of course you knew that. He was your best friend of five years. You always looked out for one another, but in different ways. He’d make sure you were sleeping properly to keep you from falling too deep into your studies, and in return you’d make sure he eats well while he was busy practicing for their latest comeback. You balanced one another out.
Everyone thought the two of you were dating at first glance, but you were quick to reassure them that the two of you were nothing more than close friends. Even if it’s not exactly what you wanted, you’d go along with it. For the sake of him, and his group members.
Fans weren’t too big on their idols dating, and the companies were always quick to enforce to no dating rule. If they got caught in a relationship several things could happen. The idol would be forced to terminate the relationship, and if they refused they could be forced to leave the group they were in. It was terrible, but that’s the price to pay when becoming an idol
You couldn't ask Minghao to risk not only his career, but his member’s career for you. Your feelings weren't worth all of that. You thought it would’ve been easy to get over the feelings for him, but after two years you were proven just how wrong you were to think such a thing. You still loved him, probably even more than you did before.
The two of you could’ve kept it a secret, but what's the point if you couldn't tell the world just how much you loved Minghao. Not that you would've been public about your relationship anyways,  but the two of you wouldn't have been able to go on dates or simply walk around with one another. You would've been forced into a relationship of secrecy, and that didn’t sit well with you.
So, you loved him in your mind.
You were fine with it; loving him from afar. Your friendship wasn't a secret, not at all. His fans knew about you, and they knew that’s exactly all you were. You’d keep your feelings at bay if that meant keeping him in your life.
Minghao fixed the hat on his head, making sure to keep his red hair from being broadcasted to the people in the airport by pulling the hood of his hoodie over the top of his hat. One person could recognize him and ruin the sweet goodbye the two of you had planned.
“Are you excited?” He asked, turning his eyes to meet yours. “A new chapter begins.”
You shrugged softly. “It just sucks you won't be a part of it.”
“What?” He said quickly. “Of course I will! You’re not getting rid of me that easy.”
“It won't be the same.” You sighed. “I’ll be seeing you through a phone screen instead of in person.”
“You talk like this is gonna be the last time we see each other.”  He reached forward to grab you by the shoulders gently. “Y/n, this isn’t goodbye.”
“It sure feels like it.” You muttered. Your flight number was called for boarding, and you swore your heart stopped beating for a second. In just a few moments, you’d be saying goodbye to the love of your life. Who knows when you'd see him again. Both of your schedules are about to get hectic- even more so than they already were.
You had to tell him. You had to tell him that you were in love with him. It’s been two years you’ve been holding this to yourself, and you had to let it out before you left. It would make it easier. At least, you hoped it would.
“Hao.” You said softly. “You remember when we promised not to keep secrets from each other?”
His eyebrows furrowed, but he nodded softly. “Yeah.”
“I’m in love with you.” Your eyes met the ground instantly. “I have been for-”
“I know.” He cut you off. Your eyes snapped to meet his, and you didn’t need to look under his mask to see the sweet smile on his lips. How can you be the one confessing to him, yet you were the one left speechless.
Seems like you weren’t the only one keeping a secret.
“Your timing is quite awful.”
“You know?” The shock was clear in your features. “What do you mean ‘You know’?”
He chuckled at your reaction. You looked adorable with your widened eyes and your quiet stuttering. “It’s not like you hid them well. Although I can’t say anything about it. I didn’t hide my own feelings all that well either.”
“You.. feel the same?” Your features softened as his own eyes crinkled, signaling another smile.
“Of course I do.” He reached forward to grab your hand gently, rubbing his thumb alongside your hand. "I always have."
“Then why didn’t you say anything?”
This was the first time his eyes left you and moved to the floor as he sighed. “I’ve witnessed first hand what happens to idols dating. It's terrifying to know that everything could be taken from me so easily. I didn't want to risk losing everything- losing you.”
He squeezed you hand tightly. “And for me to ask you to run around in secret, unable to tell the world that we were together, it would've been selfish of me.”
You held his face in your right hand, his mask separating your skin from his. “I would’ve risked everything for you.”
And he would've done the same, but the harsh truth was that since he was in a group, he had to think about more than just his own feelings. He had to take him member's into account, and how it would affect them if the two of you were caught.
"But I understand." And you did. You knew he would've worried about his friends- his family- and how it would hurt them if he was forced to leave the group, or even how it would affect him having to break up with you.
Minghao leaned into your touch. “Why would you drop this on me now?”
“Call it false hope.” You shrugged. "I was hoping once I let it out I'd be able to move on."
"And?"
"Didn't work out how I thought it would."
Another call for your flight was announced, and that was when it finally hit you. You were about to leave the love of your life, and you weren't sure when you'd see him again. It was different now, knowing he felt the same as you. You wanted to hit yourself for letting it happen.
"I should go." You held your breath, trying to keep the tears from falling down. Your hand fell back to your side.
He noticed the tears in your eyes, and he squeezed your hand once more. "I'll be by your side, any time you're needing me."
You nodded before pulling your hand from his and turning to walk away. A single tear rolled down your face, and you were quick to wipe it off.
Before you could take another step, Minghao grabbed your hand and pulled you back towards him so he could place his lips on yours. It wasn't how you always imagined it to be. You never thought your first kiss with him could possibly be your last.
You melted into the kiss, and you couldn't stop the tears from falling anymore. He held you close, as if you'd run away at any given moment, but if you could you'd stay in his arms forever.
You were forced to pull away from him when the last call for your flight echoed through the building. Minghao held your face so softly in his hands, and his eyes moved over every inch of your face.
"Call me when you land, yeah?"
You nodded once more and he leaned forward to press a single kiss to your forehead before lifting his mask over his mouth once more and stepping back.
He watched as you turned around, letting the tears flow freely down your face. You took that first step away, and you could slowly feel your chest tightening as you stepped further away from him and closer to the plane.
You may have left for America, but your heart stayed in Korea.
