- viv in the past has said alastor is mixed race creole. it hasn't been confirmed canon and might have changed because his voice actor is now iranian. however, in the pilot he mentions jambalaya and he has a bayou and other nods to louisiana that suggest a louisiana upbringing

- creole is one of those weird terms that can mean different things to different people. but generally it means you're some mix of french, spanish, african, and/or native american - so you can be white creole or black creole but most people associate it with darker people

- if he's creole, it means he's from louisiana (but doesn't necessarily mean new orleans)

- louisiana was a colony of spain and france before becoming part of the us

- france was an important ally of the united states against british rule and its military and economic help were crucial to american victory so the us could become independent

- the us bought louisiana from france as part of the louisiana purchase

- some people in the us were anti-french for white supremist reasons (omg you guys are fucking minorities??) - especially prior to the civil war

- during both world wars there was a lot of negative propaganda about the french in the us (german propaganda to destabilize, americans trying to drum up support for the war like france is weak and cowardly so you guyssss we gotta help them)

- post civil war there was a lot of racism that pushed towards segregation between races + anglicization (english white vs other races white) and people were like stop being french and speaking french this is AMERICA and made english the sole language in louisiana schools in 1921

- but now french people are just considered white with all the advantages that come with it

- there are still some stereotypes that exist about france in the us (mainly people from france vs being french) but it's nothing like the xenophobia of somewhere like the uk.

- now most people in the us view the french almost 99% positively - especially because of globalization - and the idea of hating the french is seen as so absurd it's funny (because the us cares more about hating asian/brown/black ppl and religious minorities)

:) Well it's just that for a very long time France considered the 12-syllable verse known as the alexandrine to be the pinnacle of versification. For your poetry or play to be considered high literature it had to be in alexandrines (I was recently reading an English jstor article about translations of Shakespeare in the early 19th century and it went “[French translator] prefers to translate in verse, which means, of course, in alexandrines.” Of course!) We've moved on now and they’re out of style, but we’re still secretly fond of them I think. We were held hostage by alexandrines for so long a lot of French people still have a Stockholm-syndrome preference for their specific flow over other kinds of poetic metre.

They left a strong legacy in our language too—a lot of French sayings / proverbs are alexandrine verses because they’re excerpts from classical theatre and poetry (e.g. “A vaincre sans péril on triomphe sans gloire” from Corneille; “La raison du plus fort est toujours la meilleure” from La Fontaine; “Qui veut voyager loin ménage sa monture” from Racine; “Chassez le naturel, il revient au galop” from Destouches, “Vingt fois sur le métier remettez votre ouvrage” from Boileau...)

The alexandrine had a long golden age, from the Classicists to the Parnassians (mid-17th to late 19th century)—the Romantics in between were advocating for a kind of “free verse” but it still meant alexandrines and pretty rigid ones at that! (Victor Hugo’s “J’ai disloqué ce grand niais d’alexandrin” was subversive—but it’s still an alexandrine.) Their verse was only considered rebellious because it ignored some of the many rules that went into a perfect classical alexandrine (e.g. no overflow, 4 rests per line, rhyme purity must be respected when it comes to mute consonants, no liaison between the last word of an alexandrine and the first word of the next, the hemistiches of two successive alexandrines mustn’t rhyme, no prepositions or other tool words at the end of a hemistich, etc. etc.)

Then in the 19th century we liberated ourselves from the tyranny of the alexandrine after Verlaine shot them dead (insert Rimbaud joke) by doing things like placing the caesura on the 3rd syllable of a 5-syllable word (“WTF”—Racine) or ending an alexandrine in the middle of a word and treating the first half of the truncated word like a legit rhyme, which made all the Classicists roll over in their grave.

I really like alexandrines personally! I admit they can sound plodding after a while especially with classical rhymes, but they have such a soothing flow. I also love that they are often French at its Frenchest. By which I mean, there are some gorgeous alexandrines that are genuinely the French language at its best and most graceful, and then you have those that can’t help but highlight how absurd our syntax can get.

My favourite types of alexandrines are the ones with a diaeresis in each hemistich because saying them normally feels like walking down the street, while saying them as an alexandrine feels like doing a figure skating routine (e.g. in Racine, “La nation chérie a violé sa foi”); the ones with an AB-BA structure (“Et le fuyant sans cesse incessamment le suit”), the ones with a ternary structure (“Je suis le ténébreux, le veuf, l’inconsolé”, “Je renonce à la Grèce, à Sparte, à ton empire”) and the ones where 1 word sprawls over an entire hemistich (“Voluptueusement dans cette paix profonde...”).

The worst alexandrines imo are the ones that force you to acknowledge how many tiny grammatical bricks are involved in the building of a French sentence. Orally we tend to squish them together so we can forget about them but the merciless alexandrine will demand that you mortify yourself pronouncing all of them, e.g. “O nuit, qu’est-ce que c’est que ces guerriers livides ?” (thank you Victor Hugo for this ignominy) (<- here’s an alexandrine), or “Si ce que je te dis ne se dit pas ainsi”... “Ce que je te (...) ne se” is a horrible succession of words by poetical standards but wait I’ve got worse!

And I mean…Harry walked willingly to his own death after all of this…Wtf? It’s not even that surprising he was able to embrace it, heartbreakingly. In my mind Harry’s fatalistic… like, yeah, this has been a 17-year shit show, fuck it I’m done. But also the opposite…isn’t he also like, I’ve suffered enough, give me a goddamn break? What do I even owe you, you assholes? And he just takes it. Truly a testament to a character who embodies heroism and selflessness to an unhealthy degree.

Anyways, all of this equates to the most fucked up human ever IMO. PTSD galore on so many fronts and I don’t even know where to begin but so desperately want to write a fic that encompasses dealing with all this trauma (it’s soooo much Aaaahh!) It seems near impossible to do without a ridiculous amount of trauma-dumping.

Which is also to say: I have a problem with canon-compliant, post-HP stuff. It’s all too pretty-with-a-bow-on-top, even considering the Cursed Child story-line. Harry marrying Ginny, having three kids and becoming an Auror is just…absurd. At least without some otherness. Be it crazy trauma porn or something smaller that devolves his present/future scenario into chaotic nothingness turned into something else far more sturdy. Because in no world do I feel Harry ever should be an Auror, at not least long-term. (Which isn’t to say I don’t enjoy well-written fics where he is an Auror for the duration or not, don’t get me wrong!)

But thank god for fandom exploring all these things. Because TERF JK prettily wrapping things up does not compute to the insane amount of trauma she’s introduced.

• in s2e13 she tracked down skarra before this big "all stars vs supa strikas match" and interviewed him about this fucked up rivarly that him and shakes have (she saw both of them in tv last night), and why they even decided to have a bet of the pitch where they had great time together in past (like hell, nandi knew that this friendship was homoerotic, holy shit). ofc nandi "as annoying as the little shit she was" (skarra's words, not mine), she didn't take any type of crap from him about this whole situation. after this, she called shakes out on his stupid ass actions, in his apartament, and just left him with: you both are total blockheads. and shakes was like: both? who is both? wtf.

SEASON 3

• in season 3 nandi and shakes have this conversation about what nandi meant, when she literally lit into him in his own apartament before super league final. to which nandi,, replied with: ahh yeah. but this doesn't matter. at least this debt of yours and skarra's was dissolved :D. after, they had honest conversation and disscus about childhood and how this can't be put before good of the team (nandi wanted to argue with this, but then she quickly give up. all the stress that the shakes' finale cost her was enough for her),

• at this season we see more of nandi as a future filmmaker, because she trolls everyone on twitter with uploading this type of videos like fake interviews with celebrities (and with some footballers ;)),

• in college, she met woman from completely other school (remember this. i probably make headcanons for this semi canon character so wink wink) and became friends with her,

SEASONS 4-7:

• all of her story arcs focus on her career and school and on a few other events that will be described by me as i write about other women from strikas universe.

their relationship definitely started as: you are my brother's (boy)friend/you are shakes' sister. and then, they became partners in crimes. when shakes, skarra and nandi went to school nandi always pulled out a card titled: don't talk to me like that, or i'm gonna call my brother and my brother's best friend. in othet occasions, skarra went to nandi and asked some stupid questions like: ey, nandi you have ruler to lend 🧍‍♂️?? (,,yo, nandi you want some hotdogs?", ,,nandi, we are going to shopping mall", ,,hey, nandi you have some time to hide a body----?"). why writers of rookie season acted like nandi wouldn't care that much about skarra, like he literally used to call nandi's mom 'auntie' wtf wtf wtf.

• klaus: YOU CAN'T TELL ME HE WOULDN'T BE HER FAV OUT OF SHAKES' TEAMMATES. nandi and klaus definitely have long conversations about shows that they watched, about ships, about premieres. they are just two little nerds with heads full of ideas <33333

• mara: me and @strudelbbg once talked about mara and nandi's possible relation and we decided that mara, when nandi was younger, probably carried her on her back and stuff. tldr mara sees nandi as "little sis 💞💞💞💞",

Just recalling everything that happened in the series while finally picking it up again makes me… really question wtf Hiruzen was thinking. But also the fact that apparently no one argued against it? The only person I remember that was willing to take Naruto was Mikoto, but Fugaku told her not too. At least that’s what I remember. I know the man has to run a village, but Jesus fucking Christ Hiruzen, you told Kushina you would take care her son.

Just recalling all of this and people bringing up more stuff has really started to make me hate his character his character and that other characters hold him in stuff high praise. Like- maybe some things could have been avoided if this man and the rest of the higher up did their fucking jobs properly.

Yes! And I can't even get really mad at him, because I honestly believe Hiruzen was simply a huge plot hole that Kishimoto didn't properly consider 🥲

At first he was a good person/hokage BUT bad things had to happen to fuel trauma so, except for not killing Orochimaru when he had the chance, he wasn't writen actively doing anything bad.

But he still fails when you connect the most basic dots in the story, Naruto's childhood and the Uchiha massacre happening under his period as hokage (and as we learn later on letting Danzo just do whatever all that was)

It's just so absurd and cruel that I can only process his character as a honestly unplanned mistake from Kishi's part, you know?

Which I agree with you. Nancy obviously wants to be her romantic partner's priority and number 1. Jonathan's priority is his family and we saw in both s3 and s4 that this causes strain in their relationship! To the point they kinda break up in s3 about it! Robin and Steve both can no longer give that to their partners, because they have each other, scoops troop, and, by extension, the Party. Which is wild because s2 Nancy was Steve's priority.

idk whyyy people have Robin be mean to Steve :( stopppp that's her special little guy. her sweet cheese. her rotten soldier. She might say or do something that hurts him but she would try to apologize as soon as she realizes!! Just like he would for her! I think it might come from people still prioritizing romo ships over platonic ones and trying to have those be the most important and special and deep relationship the characters have.

I think some are trying to acknowledge past st4ncy, but neglect all the hurt that happened at the end of that relationship, and that for the characters, in s4, Steve and Nancy broke up less than a year and a half ago! very messily and hurtfully! (once again, regardless of whether or not steve knows Nancy cheated) that is so short between the end of the relationship to be hooking up with your best friend's ex! that he has expressed romantic feelings for recently! or trying to emphasize robin and steve's weird little qpr comfortable in one another's space and oversharing relationship but missing the mark. like. it's one thing to sleep in a friend's bed with a different friend. it another to have sex in a friend's guest bedroom. it's another level to have sex in your friends bed? that's bonkers.wild.

I do think it'd be funny for Steve and Robin to exchange sex tips/stories but the first time i think Robin asks and Steve just blanks and goes "cut your nails. watch your teeth." which like. yeah. Robin figured. They're weirdos who live inside each other's pockets and brains but they probably do have some levels of comfort to work up to (they've been friends for less than a year! even if it feels like they've known each other forever)

(also. there is a weird thing sometimes where Nancy is closer to Steve/cares more openly about him than she would.
