Writing hack: if you're getting stuck trying to do background worldbuilding, like you're filling in backstory for a character or designing a location or attempting to flesh out a culture or something in your setting, write it up as a fake Wikipedia page. That way, the bits you're fully stuck on can just be headings with a note saying "needs expansion" for now, the bits where you can't decide whether to make x or y be the truth can be written up both ways under a "Controversy" heading, the bits you do have plenty to say about can be splurged down without needing to reference the bits you're still stuck on.

For bonus points, have fun inventing imaginary sources, because once you've done that, you've got fictional books and learned authorities to throw into your actual story later if you need some random titles to stick on a bookshelf (or a place to hide a terrible pun like you're aspiring to be Sir Terry Pratchett, of course).

For even more bonus points, get carried away and start adding links to other pages and then write those too.

Thinking about Adam Milligan AND Michael

Thinking about when Adams actor Jake Abel said that Adam would be fucking delighted to know Michael immediately betrayed the Winchesters after his death like underrated character trait of Adam Milligan is how much he HATES Sam and Dean. I feel like Adam is a pretty easy character to mess up or misinterpret because if you pull him too far from being just a guy you risk making him into a Crazy Winchester which is the exact opposite of what he is but I genuinely believe he would let them both die with little conflict. And you know what good for him, I'm glad, Low key think Sam and Dean deserve death by him and only him ngl

Like Adam would never ask Michael to kill them but if for some reason Michael was in the bunker and Dean bumped his shoulder in the hallway and Michael decided "You know what It's Time." Adam would just be like "can't argue with that, It's Just Time." and the entire bunker would just be vaporized off the planet

BUT if a customer at the bar Adam worked at broke a chair over Adams head in a fit of rage Adam would just tell Michael "This guy is obviously an asshole but lets just call the cops and get this guy arrested" and Michael would say "He NEEDS to be accosted by an Angel of the LORD We need to call upon HELLFIRE-" And then the guy would just get arrested

ALSO THOUGH if a guy tried to repeatedly get Adams number and flirt with him Adam would say "I'm litterally going to outlive this guy by centuries dont kill him now i wanna show up at his deathbed in 50 years itll be so funny" and Michael would be like "What should i make us for dinner maybe hawawshi how do you feel about hawawshi?" and then that guy would die of a unrelated heart condition 2 hours later.

Math Tips

Well, let me tell you, we all have this love-hate relationship with this subject, right? The worst part is that when you don't know what the heck is going on, so, as a girl who studied maths (2 Volumes/textbooks) on her own during the year she was homeschooled, here are some tips and tricks that I did to get an A+ in my math finals!

Get your syllabus together

In the beginning I had no damn idea what was going on and it was just confusing. I had to do the first thing I did was taken my index/table of contents and mark the chapters which i knew very well and the ones I had no clue about. And then i arranged them with the marking scheme, like which one carries the most marks etc etc and study accordingly.

Complete lessons/chapters that you already know

When you finish off the things you already know then that's gonna give you the confidence you need even if you know only 1-2 chapters, learn it throughout and make sure that you'll get the answer no matter how twisted the sum is. If you're doubtful about the whole textbook like any normal person.... Start with the easy ones. (I know there are literally really no "easy" chapters, spare me)

Harder chapters need hard work

Most chapters like Trigonometry proofs, Geometry proofs, Algebra, Graphs, Mensuration and Calculus etc need more than minimum effort but here's a trick, what is the common thing in this? Yes, they're all formulae and theorem based which goes to my next point. These chapters are completely based on how much you've understood your basics.

Formulae and theorem cheatsheets

Make a list of all formulae and the theorem used in the book, write them chapter wise and no printouts or digital notes. Take a paper and write it down, no excuses. It helps you while you're practicing, revising and in the last minute review, it helped me damn much. Remember, maths is a sport. The basic formulae must come to you like reflexes.

YouTube is your best friend.

For every single chapter, go and watch the basics and how a sum is done step by step. A recommendation for this is Organic Chemistry Tutor who literally is one of the reasons i passed. He has videos from basic geometry, trigonometry, statistics to calculus. Search for your own YouTubers and be clear with concepts.

Math is fully memorization

Memorize formulae and theorems with the back of your hand, you should be able to recall them within seconds. Be thorough.

Memorize basic math values (if calculator isn't allowed)

Do this if you have a majority of chapters like Statistics, Mensuration, Profit/loss calculation etc, where large numbers are concerned. Memorize the first 10 square, cube, decimal and multiplication values. It may be dry but there are literally songs available for these things, I'm serious, i learnt the first 10 cube roots by listening to Senorita xD Search for rhymes and they'll definitely be many!!

Work it out!!!!!!

Can't stress this enough, atleast 30-40 mins is the minimum for maths. I'm serious, work out each sum, don't ever think it's a waste, you'll see the results. Practice makes perfect. Work out every single sum, from examples to exercise ones cause let's be honest, our examiners love to take problems from every nook and cranny of the book.

Whiteboard method

So, I made this up and it actually works, if you have a whiteboard or anything else, once you completed a chapter, take a random page and whatever sums you have on those two pages, you need to complete within a given time limit. It helps you to identify your weak points and where the hell you're losing both time and effort and not to mention that it gives you confidence boost up.

Fun and secret tip for when your friend is having a bad day and they're generally someone who does creative things:

Go find something they've made and write them a few words of praise on it.

Reblog their entire art tag with all the enthusiasm you have in you (even if it is very little, or you don't have the mental energy to leave positive tags, reblog their art. All they're proud of, in a row).

Write them essays on their AO3 fic no matter how long ago they posted it, or tell them how awesome their fic is and embed a gif in the comments with this <img src="IMAGEURLGOESHERE" />

Listen to their music and tell them your favourite parts, the emotions they invoke. Pull out the markers and draw them a visual representation of their music.

Watch their AMVs and tell them how well they matched the visuals up with the lyrics, how often you've rewatched it, and if you've discovered new music through them

Tell them how often you think about the piece(s), or which parts you find impressive, and analyse the symbolism they used. Talk about what the colours remind you of, how you imagine the textures feel. Tell them you want to eat it <- highest compliment I've got. Ask about parts of their process you're interested in. What do they start with? Do they plan it in advance or let it form as they go? What's their favourite medium, instrument, character, or moment?

Recommend their works to your friends and followers in a post. Write a public review linking to their work. Encourage others to send positive messages as well. Creative types put a lot of themselves into their work, and recognizing that even in small ways can be a powerful way of uplifting them.

Dieter is our comfort king, and you know he wears loose boxers under his bathrobe. @imaswellkid made the very valid point that Max L wears pinstripes boxers, so does Dave probably - very dad of them. The Thief definitely wears boxers under a pure silk kimono when he prowls about his mansion.

Midway briefs

Din, older Joel, Marcus M, Tim

Our modest tin can man would probably wear long johns under his flight suit if he could, but since it's not an option, let's say he wears midway briefs. Older Joel is probably (misguidedly) a bit insecure about his dad bod and probably wants some extra support with the extra length on the midway briefs. Whereas for Marcus M and Tim, I don't know why, but I'm imagining them walking around in midway briefs with their respective tac vest and shoulder holsters and I'm feeling pretty good about myself right about now 🫠

DCA Palooza CommentFest!

The DCA Palooza is hosting a Commentfest, an event to encourage fic writers and help all of you find new fics to read, but most importantly to spread positivity and nice, thoughtful comments.

Members of the community will submit a fic they want feedback or comments on and all the works we collect will be sorted into categories to help people choose what they want to read (or find one at random!) and when the event begins all the masterlists will be posted! Then, read! Enjoy fics your fellow community members have written, give and receive meaningful comments on works, and have a good time!

Please fill out the fic submission form and provide as much information about your fic as you can to help us categorize it correctly! Only one fic submission is allowed per person for each submission form!

Any fics are welcome, but if it contains any triggering material (heavy angst, gore, death etc) please tell us in your submission so we can mark it appropriately! There is a form for SFW fics only and a form for NSFW fics only, please make sure to submit the appropriate fic to each!

A Guide to Thoughtful Comments:

You don’t have to follow any kind of guide to leave nice, thoughtful comments but here’s some tips and a cheatsheet to help you write meaningful comments to make the author’s day!

The structure of a thoughtful comment can be broken down into FIVE main bodies:

Telling the author you liked the fic. Saying something like… 

“I wish I could leave another kudos!”

“This was lovely!”

“I wish I could read this story again for the first time”

“This was so well done”

Complimenting an aspect of the story such as the…

Characterization of a character

Character development

Pacing of the story

Description of a place/scene

Writing quality

Quoting a segment from the story and talking about it. Try saying something like… 

“This line made me (laugh/smile/cry/cringe/squeal/scream/snort/want to vomit)”

“Their line here was especially powerful given the extra backstory you gave them”

“I could totally see [x character] a saying that”

“The comedic timing of this line was perfect”

Talking about how the story made you feel! For example… 

“This fic melted my heart”

“The angst here killed me”

“This fluffy fic made my day better”

Ending line! Try something like…

“Thanks for writing this!”

“Such a great read, I loved it!”

“Now I want to read more” 

“Going to go read more of your work now, bye!” (only use this if you plan to)

“Bookmarking to read again!” (only use this if you plan to)

how did you get that kind of job without a university marketing degree or whatever? i'm kinda struggling here :(((((

it was a (relatively) long process of trial and error and a lot of freelance work/not having a stable income but basically to break it down. a few yrs ago i went to careers advice and asked how to maximise my future prospects or whatever and the first thing they said was add ALLL of ur skills onto your resume even if youve never used them in a job role before. if you're proficient in (or capable of learning) excel, photoshop, adobe creative suite, wordpress, social media, copywriting, seo software....even if youve never used it in a professional capacity its rly good to kind of emphasize ur digital skill set as much as possible and start researching it as much as possible too. then i started a wordpress blog and would write copywriting articles on there (or in google docs) even though i had no one to send them to lol just to build a portfolio that i could send out to freelance content and copy writer agencies who were hiring. there's tons of tips and articles and pdfs online that can help you write great articles and help u learn content design. anyway i did this for a longgggg time and finally got some actual freelance work coming in. from this, i started interviewing for actual full time copywriting jobs, and was hired to intern at a digital agency at the end of 2021. did that for months then went back to freelance but was able to get more projects with my slowly growing experience. while doing freelance i was interviewing for a shit ton of full time copywriting and content management roles, most of which i got rejected from after like the 1st interview. finally i heard back from a team i had interviewed for and they had me give a presentation outlining my approach to copywriting/media managemenet and from that they've hired me and ive been really really lucky that they have. unfortunately that's what i think it was more than anything, like a stroke of luck that they saw smth in me and took me on despite me unconventional background. im rly rly grateful to them for it. i would also encourage you to look for literally any volunteer opportunities in admin, soc media, bookkeeping - it looks rly good on the resume and can sometimes expand into a job. also look up general cv tips cause there's a ton of cheatsheets out there that can help you get yours to the top of the pile or near the top. good luck and im really sorry you're struggling atm!! ive absolutely been there and it's honestly so discouraging, the amt of times i quit job hunting while doing freelance out of sheer despair was a lot. it's hard but there are ways to show what you have to offer in a really favourable light, and the more you interview/resume edit/write the better you will get. it's all one horrible big skill at least that's how it felt to me, and i still suck at it. just clawing my way up TBH. anyway sending you a lot of love ❤️ hope you catch the break u deserve soon. here's a cheatsheet 4 some of the sounds that i write miguel as generally Struggling To Make, with his Very Big Spider Fangs in the way, including but not limited to: most dental & alveolar consonants in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

most 't' sounds (unless at the start of a word), and/or any combination(s) containing them-- he can tutt sharply if needed, but otherwise has to replace the sound with a kind of 'dt'/'td' noise made w/ the tongue against the hard palate;

short 's's, but not long ones (often run the risk of sounding Noticeably hissy, tho);

sometimes 'n's, when he is Tired and/or having a semiverbal day

clear, distinct 'th' and 'd' sounds;

unrolled 'l' / 'll's-- fangs put an early stop 2 his tongue mid-tongue-flip, which. just. makes the sound really awkward nd clumsy in his mouth. out of all of these, i imagine him having the most exaggerated physical response to having to say l-words, post-spidering.

as far as Which Specific Words Make Miguel Look Like He Has To Physically Hork Up [A] Piece[s] Of Sound[s] Like A Bird From Its Crop While Hating Every Second Of It... well, if you ask Gabriel, he thinks his brother does an absolutely killer performance of that one old classic, the Lemon-Stealing Whores. so. feel free to draw your own conclusions from there, as you will.
