Sweatful Misery

Every day is an unending day for ordinary workers. A dedicated heart faces different struggles to make a living each day. One cannot imagine how hard to endure the whole working days for the ordinary worker if minds and hearts are not open. Calling out this stuff, the compassionate hands of Gary Granada wrote an awful song entitled "Manggagawa" that tackles the hardships of ordinary workers.

Simple jobs? Yes, it is. But it is not as simple as we see it. It might be simple and easy for us because we're not the one who works on it. But truly, it is not. Ordinary workers pushed themselves hard working on those "simple jobs" for their families to survive. Those "simple jobs" have them more working days and sleepless nights. It made them tired that even on the road they do not waste the short time to have a quick nap. Sadly, they were baffled in tiredness and covered in sweat all day and night but all it cost is a small amount. That small amount can make an empty stomach. They’re enduring the pain as if they’re alright. Indeed a heartbreaking song filled with heartbreaking words. Reading every line crushed my heart into pieces. I cannot imagine how possibly it is for them to endure it all.

A portion in this song made my heart crushed even more. It discloses that there are people who get to set a feast and fill their stomachs with a delicious meal every day while those who worked hard were fighting with hunger. There are people who continuously getting wealthy while these ordinary workers continuously getting miserable in spite of working hard. Honestly, it is unfair for those people who gave their whole lives working hard. They work to have the same life as those people have but how come they’re way too far from each other? These workers deserve more. They deserve all the respect. They deserve to be treated in a good and best way.

And that’s how the song “Manggagawa” goes. The ordinary workers defined in this song as workers who gave their life working to make a living for them to survive in this cruel world.

This awful song is truly an eye opener and it made me realized that no matter how we push our selves beyond our limit just to make a living there are still instances that we can say that life is so unfair. Although you work hard to save your life and trying to get up from misery, it is still not enough because you are living in a world that favors unfairly. I hope that one of these days, the ordinary workers won’t struggle this kind of crisis in the workplace anymore and that they won’t be needing to live just to work for their survival but work to live their lives to its fullest.
